I really enjoyed this game, and fell in love with its outstanding location "Hope County". The story is pretty good and the game from start to end is real fun. The only thing I think it could have gotten better is that the game starts being less fun after you finish all the story, as the peggies don't spawn anymore in the region. The only place that will always have enemies is Joseph's Compound. All in all, it's an awesome game worth buying, except for its DLC, but everything else is quite good. Expand

The way Ubisoft has so rigidly stuck to virtually the exact same formula since Far Cry 3 is frankly laughable and you can almost imagine the developers working through a check list of everything they have to include when creating these games. The core gameplay does remain relatively fun but as a single player experience I'd have had absolutely no interest in playing through another one of these games and its about time Ubisoft at least attempted innovate the franchise.

Having said that I have found it still makes for a worthwhile co-op experience and, seeing as the game is relatively cheap these days, its worth picking up to play through the entire campaign with a friend.

It didn't start particularly well, as my game froze for about 10 minutes on the first load. After a while, I closed the game and restarted it only for the same thing to happen again. After googling around I stumbled on the ubisoft support article explaining that if the game is frozen on an image of two people it's actually a character gender select screen and a gender should be selected. Unbelievable, so instead of some text stating it's a character select screen, or otherwise relaying via some other type of method asking me to select a character they decide to leave silhouettes of player models with no text and instead have a support page on the website explaining the player needs to select a model. Such a terrible design.

This poor start didn't improve through the beginning of the game. Aside from a very brief and simplistic intro to the world, you're sent off to figure everything out yourself.

The plot is poorly conveyed, and frankly boring. The 'story' missions are uninspired and tedious and most have very little bearing to the actual plot. I found the characters uninteresting.
In fact the entire game just feels like a series of incohesive quests dumped on a map, the narrative is thin and relayed terribly. Even Far Cry Primal felt like a more cohesive campaign than Far Cry 5.
I don't recall feeling this way with Far cry 3 or 4.
Even Far Cry 2 had me caught up on things fairly quickly.

Far Cry 5 doesn't give you actual story missions to visit (well aside from boss fights). You get character time with the main characters of the game mostly by completing a certain number of missions in particular regions of land. This means it's a fairly long time until you get to actually meet the Creed family and it can be a bit of a chore keeping interested by those points.
I found Jacob and John pretty pointless characters, but Faith was fascinating, and I wish the game was just about her and Joseph.

Overall the game is fairly straight forward, you get missions by meeting the right people in the world, finding those people, as well as unlocking fast travel points are the most important things in the game.
That combined with finding money stashes and perk point magazines, which you need to have any hope in getting decent weapons or abilities, means that exploring the whole world is very important. Plus as you meet the right people you'll get allies that will assist you and transport you around as well as revive you.
So essentially you have to forget about the actual plot of the game and just try to explore as much as you can, and once you're leveled up enough with weapons, allies, perks, and money the game starts to get a bit more interesting and it'll coincide with plot developments.

I kinda wish more character development, and world-building was done early in the game so it didn't feel like such a chore to actually get to a point where the game starts to become interesting.

The ending comes out of nowhere. I get that it's meant to signify that it's not just Montanna that's falling apart, but it really just comes out of nowhere and has no bearing with the story arc of the game. I don't recall any world-building within the game to prepare us for it.
I'm about to start New Dawn, so we'll see how I feel about it in the future.

Three things I wish were fixed with Far Cry 5 (side from the redundant character select screen):

There are no audio volume options, you can set the master volume and that's it, but the sound effects drown out the music and voice so you cant hear what characters are saying. I found myself constantly changing the volume on my tv to hear what characters say then turning it down after to stop the deafening sound effects. Use subtitles.

Ubisoft have removed the ability to toggle/filter a legend on the map, and also the ability to traverse through landmarks via dpad, making finding things on the map much harder than previous far cry games. I don't know why, and find it unnecessary and annoying.

The nigh-constant spawning/de-spawning of enemies, friendlies, and animals reminds me of older GTA titles. Example: A bear attacks some cows in a pasture; you shift your view towards a nearby outpost, take a few quick steps, turn around, and the bear and cows are gone. The clash of all of these scripted/unscripted events seems only lends to the overall sense of chaos that saturates this wild caricature of 'Murican culture and violent extremism in the face of social and political pressure. This general premise echoes real-world events and concerns, but all of the blind patriotism and fanaticism boils down to window dressing for a flawed-but-fun sandbox romp that seems a bit half-baked.

The visuals generate impressive vistas, but aggressive LOD and pop-in occasionally mar the view--even on a PS4 Pro. The textures and details are more than decent, however--especially in comparison to the previous games. The music and sound effects are solid, but recycled assets are readily apparent. There are some licensed tracks that lend flavor to certain scenes and stifle the monotony of driving down these dusty roads.

All things considered, FC5 is best enjoyed in small doses--lest the repetitive noise of its chaos and tropes grind one's enthusiasm into Montana's dirt.

Graphics: I played it on Ps4 and it looks and runs great, so i don't mind the fact that they use the same graphic engine for 10 years. Faces and emotions in cinematics look good. The bad thing is that 80% of all missions including main missons don't have that quality. People just stand still with stone faces and pronounce emotional speeches. It looks dated in 2018.

Gameplay: many people say this is the most fun Far Cry game ever had in terms of gameplay variety. I can not agree. Things you do on Island No.1 are the same things you do on other 2 islands and they are not that fun, because you did all that in previous games and because all those activities are executed poorly. If you captured one base, you've captured them all. It is a game for those who like spending hours to search for collectibles, get a badge and custom made rediculous rocket launcher skin. It is a game for those who like to come home, capture one base, kill some animals, sell stuff and buy a bigger grenade sack. It is not bad, it is just I think I got tired of that tedious activity. Oh, and I am also angry at Ubisoft for selling rehashed resourses over and over again for full price.

I did most of the game with the base weapons because there's a trophy that makes me spend 50,000 in the vehicle shop.. which took up most of my money. Although that wasn't the main factor, the other part was that I couldn't figure out if any of the other guns were any different or even worth investing into. They all seemed like the same gun with the same power to me. Overall kind of useless to have so many guns and so much possibility and use almost the default load out the whole game.

A couple of the people you can hire to travel with you are pretty great. And it's pretty satisfying blowing people up. There's never any real insane moments though. Nothing spectacular. They're all pretty short sequences with 2-3 guys or 2 sets of 2-3 guys running or driving in. There's only a couple enemy types as well which is kind of boring.

There's so many loading screens, it's ridiculous. You fail any quest and you're back to loading 40 seconds with a ps4 pro. I'm not even sure what it's loading sometimes.

Multiplayer is pretty fun but that's mainly because it's mp. Sometimes the connecting player seems to have lag issues though. And they can't unlock most of the trophies from campaign unless they are the host.

It is easily the worst game I have ever played to the end and I have been playing and finishing video games since 1985.
EDIT: I have moved my score up from a 2 to a 5, not because of the campaign. Actually my opinion of it is even lower than before since starting New Game+ to see the hidden ending and realizing that even in New Game+ you cannot skip the horrendous, nauseating story scenes that make me want to grab the game designers by the ears and scream "WTF were you thinking?"

What saves this game from being utter trash is Arcade Mode and the community created content. One day in Arcade mode and I am having more fun than in the weeks it took me to do the campaign. And when I say more fun, I mean drastically more fun. Even so I can't give this game a good review. Arcade is great, and I can't wait to cut my teeth in the editor, but the campaign is so bad it is downright grotesque. If not for Arcade I would still feel cheated buying the game at a discount. If you get this, be prepared for a horribly designed campaign mode that is only any fun when it leaves you alone and actually lets you play in the sandbox. But Arcade is actually a pretty good consolation prize.

Gorgeous game. A bright HDR screen will really make a difference. It feels like Far Cry mixed with a bit of Bioshock Infinite. Controls aren't quite as snappy as COD but once you play a few hours you'll feel right at home. Storyline is just ok but the characters and sound all are done nicely. Plenty of ways to get lost in this beautiful world.

I am 42 years old and what I am passionate about games is history. It may have bad graphics but if it has a good story it got me hooked. I am very demanding when it comes to playing a game. But I have to admit that I really liked this story. That of having several missions outside the main one was the most that I liked. Implementing animal bodyguards that was the best part of the game. The dog, the bear and the cougar I really love ...Also did not know that it was compatible with RGB sync. When I see all the lights start to turn the colors of the American flag. I mean the lights are changing depends on how the game unfolds, when you die I like that kind of games and with these effects they ate it. I recommend this game to those who like first person shooting. It has a good story that there are even parts where messages reach the player directly. It is my humble opinion. Excellent game I hope you continue the story. Somehow. We want more..... Expand

I’m not sure what kind of vibranium are theirs helmets made of. Then, when I almost to give the game a solid 8 for the story and fun of it I remember the lame driving system. No realism, no sense in the steering system, absolutely no sense in the speed, you are at 100 km/h (60mp/h) at the road, you take the foot from the gas pedal and in less then two seconds speed is halved. If you don’t want to make a good driving system, don’t propose to put driving as such an important part of the game. This game resembles 2 in spirit and is really fun to play. Even the vehicles feel pretty good but the world looks great and I love the setting.

The story is nothing special but the cutscenes are all produced well and some of the characters are cool. It's alright and gives you a reason to push forward. I like how this game is a little more tightly focused. Otherwise, it's vintage Far Cry action offering you a variety of ways to take out foes by going stealth or frontal assault and everything in between. I like flying a plane overhead and then jumping out and gliding down to a nice safe roof top to survey the field. Or you can just ride in guns blaizing and blow up everything in your path. Either way, you'll be having fun, and that's the whole point.

Off course the game still has microtransactions which is annoying but looks like they toned it down a bit and there absolutely no reason to spend extra money in the game. You can find everything you need in the game world.

A solid return to form for Far Cry and a really good open world shooter with a few small issues in the way. I am pleasantly surprised by this one and since I got it for free on Plus, I'm super happy I didn't spend a dime on it.

After many tries I just gave up. And I'm a veteran gamer. I've played a lot of shooters. There must be something wrong. I didn't try the hard setting, just normal and couldn't get past it. The truck keeps over-turning, presumable from taking fire from a thousand different directions and being unable to even bring cross-hairs on any of them for a split second. All you can do is fire wildly at your pursuers and hope you hit them. Because your vehicle is going up and down over obstacles and the tail-end of your own vehicle keeps getting in your line of fire as your idiot driver takes you through ravines and ditches. I fired a full burst into the windshield of a pursuer and they kept coming. The gun you're given for the mission is largely ineffective against moving targets and has a agonizingly slow re-load. During a single re-load an enemy truck is able to close the gap on you and pour bullets into you before you can even fire. The gun also bucks up hard during firing, making it extremely difficult to keep the cross-hairs on targets. Because the sequence and all the principals are moving fast and all at once, aiming with the crosshairs is useless. You just shoot in the general direction of enemies and hope you hit them. Because they've made aiming so difficult you're likely to hit only a couple of them before they kill you. And if you take out one truck, two more spawn to take their place. I didn't even get past the first part of the first mission. I'm told it gets even harder. They should warn people before they buy these games that the difficulty level is extreme. Why do they want to discourage people right at the beginning of the game by making the first mission impossible? Don't they realize people will quit? Expand

Review for Game Pass 2022 arrival:
Relentless random combat that escalates forever, disjointedly fast story pacing where you can't digest an event before another starts, annoying set piece battles that always end up as a defense against a bum rush making the special weapons provided for the set battle pointless. Worst of all, a progression bar that triggers main story cut scenes and battles seemingly no matter where you are or what you are doing. The context of the cut scene triggers makes no sense, literally pulling you right out of immersion without any way to stop it.

A spoiler free example of what to expect.
You're walking and get spotted by random enemies, as you fight more enemies keep arriving, randomly and enemy called support teams. It amounts to a slowly escalating population of a small town coming in on foot, cars, ATVs, planes, helicopters. Fight meh combat until death or run, like you are suddenly a walking U.S. airport on Thanksgiving day. As you run you get into another random fight just seconds later with the same exact people still chasing you, rinse repeat, no escape, what is happening. Tactics, strategy? No, this is Sparta. What seems like random fights might have an unrecognizable minor NPC killed that somehow moves the progression bar. Just don't free any captives during the battle, they are actually supposed to be separate encounters but large battles can end up involving these bar movers and that triggers cut scenes. Cut scenes just trigger when the bar is full no matter what.

You may encounter a small grain warehouse or other type farm/town like structures that are small enemy bases. Clear them and your allies arrive in numbers, after the battle of course, in standard Far Cry style, and you have a new base. Then, almost instantly, in the middle of your fresh won base, in broad daylight, surrounded by friendly armed forces, totally out of context, a cut scene starts and your a prisoner in a van at night engaging with main villains. What is happening? The van is struck by a something and tumbles over, a person pulls you out talking as if they have known you for a long time but you have no clue who this person is. Before you can try to get a grip on that mess instantly a set piece battle begins. Man the stationary weapon or we'll all die. Its an overhead targeting mode weapon so you can't see the immediate area around your body. You aim and fire the weapon in this top down mode and suddenly you are being beat to death as you man the weapon but you can't see the enemy doing it. You must exit the weapon mode to live and its now a standard gunfight for the rest of the banzai rush battle. The cool weapon mode was pointless when it could have been great.

While this game somewhat had the basic repeated formula of previous Far Cry, the ridiculous combat pacing and insane random cut scenes made me feel like the game was washing me along like river rapids while I struggled to get a breath. Its even worse when you come back after a day or two and the insanity starts right off again. Its was enough to give me an anxiety attack just anticipating giving it another shot in hope it improved. I was relieved to give it up and uninstall. I have no clue about the story, I was to busy trying to understand how I got plucked out of the game into a cut scene that may as well been on Mars. I loved 1-3, skipped 4, so I can't say Far Cry fans will like this iteration. If you can get it free, try on the feel, but I would not pay more than $10 for this nightmare. Nice graphics though and a good fps test for PC builders.

Yes, I know I could probably beat the game improving things, trying new tactics or finding better companions but I'm not that patient any more and because I got this game borrowed and I don't mind to quit. So, I think it would have been a good idea to let you choose an easier level for those who prefer to focus on the story. I haven't watched the end but from my experience and having beaten Far Cry 3 some years ago I think this game could be rated with a 7 or an 8 at most. Gameplay is good but I think the game should be shorter or to put more story things during game because if not you can lose interest in the game. To sum up, this game is nothing out of the ordinary and it's not a bad game per se but know that you might end up stuck or having to repeat some missons if you are not a pro or you stick only to the main missions. I liked the addition of choppers and planes and I hope that if there is a FC6 they use it more.

I'd say the biggest thing that makes Far Cry 5 isn't the characters or the action, but the game's setting. It just immerses you into the whole smoky mountain feeling, when you are hunting, fishing or doing stunt missions. (Which I thought was a great addition as well.)

Every addition to the series seems to improve on each other, yet the formula does seem a bit stale after 5 entries.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, I am not interested in politics beliefs being forced on me while playing a game, so I am relieved this game did not dive deep into the current American political landscape. Most negative reviews focus on that, I think it is silly to expect such a thing from any game, but especially something like Far Cry. That said the story is a bit empty, I think it would be more engaging if the central character, "the deputy", spoke. Silent protagonists are weird and I can never relate to them.
Story aside Hope County, Montana is an interesting place from afar. With all the delay and hype I was a bit surprised at how similar Far Cry 5's new engine resembles the build from Far Cry 4 and primal. The environment is pretty and colorful but lacks depth, you do not feel like you can really engage with anything. Think GTA V, almost 5 years old now, where you feel compelled to study the little details in a room or on a landscape and actually feel like they can be interacted with. Not to mention most things you shoot do not react. There is a somewhat plastic like feel to Far Cry 5 that is hard to ignore, like you could easily punch through the surface. This is the same issue as it's predecessors and something I expected would change. How a game like Far Cry 5 in 2018 has not better incorporated destructible environments and detail rich landscapes is beyond me. And be prepared, because just like the last two games there are only about 2 or 3 villain models, so you often find you are shooting and blowing up the same guys over and over. Revamping these types of details, richer more immersive environments and a speaking protagonist would go a long way to make Far Cry 5 a better and more memorable game. Wasn't that the whole point of waiting 2-3 years?
The weapons: I feel like the last two games respectively had an increasing arsenal that never left you wanting more. It was a nice surprise after completing a long campaign mission in Far Cry 4 to be rewarded with new weapons to buy that had previously not been visible in the store. It left something to work for, and a surprise to be excited about as you progressed. Here, perhaps because of the inclusion of more vehicles, the weapons selection is hugely trimmed down. I kept waiting for more to appear but now at the end of the game I realize that is not going to happen. I was very disappointed not to see more contemporary weapons and just a small variety of classics. For example the sub machine gun category basically has two guns, an old WW2 era machine gun with low damage that oddly becomes available later in the game, and three varieties of the MP5 all with basically the same stats. With sniper rifles and assault rifles it is the same situation: 2-3 choices. This is the 5th iteration and the games central appeal is gun play yet Ubisoft removes 75% of the guns from the game leaving a bare bones selection that you tire of quickly. This results in the guns that require further progression to unlock and buy are the same guns you already have, just with a different paint job or shorter stock, pretty lame. The mod system is exactly the same as the last two games as well, I was hoping for a grenade launcher attachment or laser sights, something to set this game apart.
These complaints aside Far Cry 5 has its moments. A truck would come out of nowhere and crash me off the road, forcing me to think fast and fight for my life. Or I would have to jump into a tractor and mow down zombie-like drugged cultists. Often times the game would take you somewhere when you least expected it, and mostly it was fun. Far Cry 5 shines in these little moments. Also some of the less significant characters are quite entertaining. The Peggy's philosophy could be better developed and more intriguing to add a level of complexity that is missing. It can also be frustrating to have just taken over an outpost and still be looting the place, to suddenly become drugged and whisked off to one of Faith's weird hallucinations in the Bliss. It is times like these where the action in Far Cry 5 is actually at odds with the story. I don't care about your stupid nonsensical beliefs, I was in the middle of hunting a bear! In the new progression system you increase your resistance level by completing missions, helping the rebels and capturing outposts, but reaching a certain level causes you to suddenly be forced to take part in a boss battle after barely surviving the capturing of an outpost when you have few supplies remaining. Bad timing, let me prepare for the fight with the tools you have made available instead of forcing me into one. Overall I was disappointed after all the waiting and hype, but it is still a Far Cry game at its core and most fans will have a good time returning to this universe, though it may leave a few things to be desired. Lets hope the upcoming DLC will help and hopefully add more weapons, I did buy the season pass after all! 7.5/10

Playing as a Sheriff's deputy, your task is to oust Joseph from power and free your allies after your attempt to arrest him went south.

It's an enjoyable FPS game that's not afraid to get silly at times - some of the side quests are quite amusing and the ample selection of weapons, vehicles and companions let you wreak havoc however you see fit. You can tackle the game's three main regions in any order, and you progress the overall story by doing pretty much any activity you run into. The charisma of Far Cry 5's big bad is the story's greatest asset, and although some plot points are rather nonsensical, it's a compelling enough ride. The ending is suitably disturbing and caps the game off nicely.

The gameplay is par for the course for this kind of title. You've got enough options in combat and traversal that you'll find something that clicks, but nothing is exceptional or truly innovative. It's good enough but it doesn't break the mould. Unfortunately, I ran into a number of bugs during my playthrough, a couple of which were quite disruptive.

Far Cry 5 is a safe bet if you're looking for a solid open world FPS with a good balance of exploration, combat, and story. It didn't blow me away but it ticked the right boxes and I had fun with it.

The world is stunning and the performance is great. I had a singular stutter in a probably bugged cutscene but besides that the game was running absolutely flawless. Loading times and fast travel was nice although I cannot testify the rates on normal HDD.

The world development was way better in comparison to older titles. The devs did not rely on capturing towers but it just naturally develops by getting around and talking to people which felt great. I m also thankful that grinding for craft was removed from the game. The game still has a huge variety of quests and a lot of side missions felt refreshingly unique. The game can be enjoyed by going story only or story + sides. Everybody else will get a huge variety on extra missions, hunting, fishing, stunt races or flight missions. Some of those are necessary but most of it is exceptional.

The weapon system and the weapons itself feel great. I would ve liked to get more enhancement variety on the guns but it is still a good variety in rifles, smgs, lmgs, shotguns, bows, launches and much more stuff to fiddle around. Same goes to vehicles that come in insane variety and feel different in certain aspects. Some driving felt a bit clunky but get doable once you get used to some of the physic behaviours.

After all I loved the plot a lot. It was immersing and had a good variety in missions and regions. One let down were those "get captured out of nowhere"-sequences that drive the story progress forward but felt absolutely out of place. I still think that this is no biggy in comparison to what I personally got out of the game.

In terms of open world complexity, story and variety the game deserves a 10 in my opinion. The devs did great work put a huge effort into this game which I cannot point out enough. Engine, sound and graphics are also stunning. PS4 Pro performance was very good and it did not even get too loud as it was with titles such as God of War Reboot. The AI companions are cool as **** Send out a bear to rip out enemies: check. Sniper yourself with a sniper companion: check. Rain down rockets from helis: check.

This game was fun. There's a lot to this game and story. Vibrant, brutal and psychological. Something that has always been prevalent in Far Cry, but its in a setting with a place and group of people I can relate to.

So my ratings for it is simple. 10/10 CULL THE HERD.

The open world is organic and fun to navigate into. I feel also that this game has a solid identity and a really unique story (weird, funny, deep and « over the top ». This is the type of game that will leave you some memories afterwards. The soundtrack is way better than average and the graphics are solid (I played at 60FPS on my PS5). The game still has minor glitches but nothing major IMO. This game is really underrated and deserves certainly more praise and attention. I found it better than Days Gone who was really good also. The game is not perfect tough...By moments, it can become pretty chaotic and apparently, the AI is not that good. It can be challenging also if you want to play clean and stealthy. Overall, the game is really good and a big step forward for the Far Cry formula who was getting old after Far Cry 4 and Far Cry primal. Expand

One of the best games I've ever played, excellent gameplay, exploration, OST and atmosphere

Didn't give 10 because of some glitches and issues, and because of the obvious frustrating ending that makes you feel nothing was worth playing

The driving may be a little gummy, but that's because driving is primarily for travel to the next battle zone. If you want great physics, they make an F1 game every year. I like the story. I think the characters are endearing in a video game context. Far Cry 5 just ticks all the right boxes for me. Expand

UPDATE: With some added patches (being able to skip cutscenes, no HUD mode) it grew to be a pretty fun and immersive experience. The fact that all this was added after the fact means it's still not a recommendation from me. It should have been in top form on release. If you can find it under $10 maybe give it a shot

Many people blame Ubisoft in creating very similar open worlds. Mostly they are right. But in case of Far Cry 5 generic Ubisoft's open world appeared to be great. Even some NPCs were very alive. Side quests are not as generic as they could be. Not Witcher 3 level but still worth to play.

Some of them are extremely helpful and fun to have around with you. This is a fun game to play and not really think about much. Had they made the pace of the story consistent between all three regions it would have been so much more enjoyable but when Jacob's region seemed to take half the time that Faith's did it just seemed to slow the game down. When finishing missions the delay that would come from dialogue and actually getting the mission to fully end was very inconsistent and annoying. Often times it would be a minute or so after I had done the last part of the mission and I was still unable to talk to the NPC or for whatever reason whoever was talking over the radio would break their speech up into five parts for seemingly no reason. The A.I in this game from the enemies was pretty poor too. There would be times when in the mission your ally would tell you to be quiet but when you would try to take the stealthy approach enemies would just randomly spot you even though an indicator wouldn't pop up. There didn't seem to be many other ways other than just going in guns a blazing in each mission. My biggest gripe with the game though was how bad the driving was and how much of a contrast there was between flying and driving. Once I unlocked the helicopters and planes I found myself never driving just due to how poorly the vehicles handled and how frustrating it was at times to get to my destination. Expand
