This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game would deserve 10 stars if it would allow the player to skip the story scenes. The game dynamics, the visuals are one of the best you can see today. Sending your furry friend Boomer taking down the bad dudes is a great fun and the coop-player mode is very much enjoyable. The coop mode succeeds in an area where many other games with coop mode fail, the game dynamics promotes the cooperation.

When it comes to the story, it is awful. The main evil talks religious stuff, then he sings, talks more religious stuff and this goes on and on. After few minutes, you just want this to be over and be able to go and play. After you bought the game, you literally watching 15 minutes of story before able to fire your first shot. 15 minutes that could be squeezed in 2, and no skip button!
Before you can play in coop mode, you need to climb a tall tower, maybe fall few times and die. A good game intro should teach you the game dynamics. I can't believe that the best they can come up with is to show that falling from great heights is bad for your health.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, I was excited to finally be able to play as a girl, but... the character customization options are abysmal. The gameplay is.... good, but nothing revolutionary. Nothing new or exciting. The graphics are... alright, I guess. The main villain is boring. Nothing much else to say about him. The story is pretty ridiculous mainly in the fact that as soon as you are thrown into it your character is like "Yup I will totally do the most illogical thing in the world and help build a resistance from within instead of letting the National Guard do their job." Far Cry 5 is very much your typical Ubisoft open world adventure. Huge map, lots of repetitive tasks to do and things to collect. Although it's a little smarter on how it presents this information to you, it's still largely the same. Not to say this is a bad mark on the game but it’s provides nothing new to the table.

The story is weak and the characters didn't do much for me either.

The story is weak and the characters didn't do much for me either. The game forcibly takes you away from its open world many times to play its story, even when you are doing something else like another side quest for instance. You can be in the middle of taking with an NPC and it will pull you out. It becomes incredibly irritating.

The combat is extremely satisfying and there’s a lot of different ways on how you can approach a task. You can take it from the air, silently, or guns blazing... the game won’t penalize you whatever the case although the AI could be a lot more forgiving when it comes to stealth.

Arcade mode you can give a pass, the competitive multiplayer is barely functional and the maps are not very fun to play.

Overall, this is an ideal podcast type game. It's a serviceable game. It’s a lot of the same tasks throughout but the combat makes it fun to do so it might just be enough to tide you in, just don’t expect anything more than what you've already come to expect from an Ubisoft open world title otherwise you’re going to be left disappointed.

    Pros:
-Like I said there is some fun to be had here either from the missions or something for you to do off on your own

-Almost everything you do contribute to the end game which works well with the openness of the world

-Some action pack moments that fans from previous Far Cry games can enjoy

    - Is welcoming to newcomers, some mechanics stick but newcomers can still enjoy the game-play and the world just as much as the fans of previous Far Cry

    Cons:
-The characters are often forgettable, there is a lot of characters in Far Cry 5 and I would often forget most of them because they were either uninteresting or didn't do much for me to remember them (just in a few cut scenes or quest givers)

-This is going back to characters but I think it is important to point out that the villains in the game can also be boring copy of one of the "final boss" traits which only makes the only interesting one the "final boss"

-There is some repetition in the game, I remember how the first time I finished a mission and I wondered what other challenges the game held for me only to find out that I would be doing similar missions with only a small variation of enemy type about 20 more times

-Some of the gun balancing may need tweaking for I pretty much blasted trough the game with a silenced sniper, a rpg, and a random third option normally a shotgun but most of the other guns either fall in to not consistent and or enough damage, or not enough range to be useful in a fight

-The AI may need some work as well because I can be sneaking around and my ally would start running to go shoot an enemy 100 meters away (and yes the hunter ally)

But overall I had some fun and these were just my opinions from my time in the game

You - your character, is again, boring and uninteresting silent protagonist. For Far Cry it's fine, since I know as a fan, that's OK for other fans too, but they REALLY did not invent anything new here. It's too safe, no crazy missions, no crazy subplot or moments, very uninspiring story that does not show you anything impactful. Side characters are OK, Nick is probably the best as the extra missions with him are quite fun.
Critics are giving too high score. Paid by Ubisoft, I assume.

MECHANICS: It's a solid build up and mix of FC4 and Primal. I really like the mechanics. Game looks great on PS4 but no 60fps is just not acceptable and I will repeat this as many times as needed. We have xbox one x and ps4 pro capable of 4K but we can't do 60 even at 720p? cmon.
Overall mechanics are good, apart from kidnaping part. I am glad to see no more XP bar!
P.S Physics are not great though, even Far Cry 2 had better engine
    .
REPLAYABILITY: very small. They changed the way you do missions and side missions, some of which are long, but most are short. By playing 3-4 h a day, you can finish everything in 7-10 days.
Despite it being open world - there is little to find and explore. Obviously no cities. Only 1 town and very small. No fortresses

ARCADE MODE and MP: amazing potential, but at current state? It's a f-ing joke. MP maps are one of the worst. People recreate Nuketown from Call of Duty and maps from other games and they play nothing but that! You hardly can match up to play other maps, there is no playlist. I really hope they update it to fix all of these. In this current state, it's an unfinished, rushed thing.

TLDR: game is fun, expected better story.

The story, which I won't get into detail about, is not exactly uplifting or positive. It's like every other Ubisoft game: fight against many different enemies that pretty much look the same until you "kill" the boss enemy after which the ending is very negative and therefor not rewarding for all your hard work.

Ubisoft should be able to do a lot better than this. I'm really tired of this writing style which I've seen in Far Cry 4, Assassin's Creed Black Flag / Unity / Syndicate (I couldn't even play Origins for more than five minutes) and frankly many more. They should take a look into Uncharted, Spider-man, GTA V and several other games which contain about as much violence and as crazy aggressive antagonists, but still are way more fun to play, and certainly more fun to finish.

One word to sum up Far Cry 5 - dull. It is dull as dishwater, but I know it shouldn't be.

Firstly, the world - yes it looks amazing, but there's so much expanse, when it needn't be that large. I think this kind of adds to my boredom.

The enemies, thick as ****, and they appear to be clones - so busting into a base with the M60 chugging away, or hiding on a billboard silently sniping - it just feels like shooting fish in a barrel. The AI give no challenge whatsoever and are simply dull targets to practice on.

I don't care for the story or characters - I feel no connection to anyone in the game, and care not if they live or die; same goes for the much applauded 'companions' you can take with you - though the sniper woman can be handy.

Hunting, fishing, whatever - bore bore bore, I just cannot bring myself to do any of it. I appreciate that is personal, but I can't help but feel it is just padding.

Far Cry (the original on PC) was great in its day - a real tech demo for putting your newly built machine through its paces, the game went a bit awry with the monsters, but was fun to play. Far Cry 2 felt like a gritty return of the king, but everything since has just been a copy and past retread of mush.

already had finished the main story, have all the points and can smash everyone, this kills
my interest because I did nothing except for sitting somewhere in the bushes and watching them fighting.
As a result - i couldn`t finish the game till the end. Playing alone becomes boring after 10 hours
    because of typical missions.
Graphics is on a good level, but some textures in the game look horrible. For example, a basket with square shape of apples! Seriously! what the **** is this?
By the way, the actions in the open world are oversaturated.
I can hide in the woods, bushes, climb on the pole, but i still will be killed by enemies or some crazy turkey which appear somewhere nearby. i cant even catch a fish calmly, because everyone wants to kill me.
So, i think franchise needs to be reloaded because all the features have got outdated.

Its really annoying that you are always spotted by enemies for no reason, just by driving down the road having done nothing to provoke or cause alerts. Ai is kinda dumb. The progression system was made so that you pull out your credit card. There are neat new aditions like having people or a dog deploy with you and such, but really they dont do much and it feels tacked on. Alot of the new gameplay elements feel tacked on simple because other recent games have it.

This game is just not a quality made product. Everything about is a check list of generic things. I struggling to keep playing and I cant find any reason to care about whats going on in the story and characters. There is nothing here, if you played any other Open World game, you already played this.

I seriously think Ubisoft should consider ending the FarCry franchise. Even the new Spin-off FarCry New Dawn looks terrible.

There are of course so major problems too.

After the prologue, I was stuck installing the game for far to long, having already taken hours to install and download.

I couldn’t quit out of a mission which I was struggling with and had to keep attempting it when I didn’t want to really - a side mission where I had to chase a helicopter on a quad bike.

The enemy placements are way too random and the patrols are everywhere making it too hectic. It doesn’t feel like a living world, it feels like wherever you are, the game sends enemies and animals to your spot indefinitely.

There is no out of car view for driving and the r2 doesn’t work for the throttle sometimes - a similar problem I had in rdr2 and the duels.

The game isn’t bad, in f t it’s fun at times but it’s not a game that makes me think wow or excites me to play.

This game is also more difficult than the previous entries in the series which is good. The crafting system has been replaced with a perk list. This is unfortunate because instead of living off the land you earn points to spend in a perk tree. With that said, the world is beautiful and the sound design is even better. The world feels like it's lived in and never feels empty. While I'm on the note, the world can sometimes become to busy. Often times you'll run into a handful of enemies within 20-30 seconds. It become ridiculous and frustrating when you can't catch a break. It becomes unrealistic and takes away from the fun. No spoilers, but I hate the ending of the main story as well. I believe there is different endings but the one I got, and assume most others will get, is very weird and a awful ending. I still want to see more of this series but I want it to evolve like Assassin's Creed did last year with Origins. Far Cry 6 needs to have a compelling story that we haven't seen before. - When you are about to fallow through with your guerilla warfare attack, about 80% of the time a wild animal will come out of nowhere and mess things up.

    - When using the helicopter to track side mission where you need to take out a convoy or capture a fuel truck, if you are in the helicopter and switch to map mode and them back to the game, the convoy or fuel truck will be gone.

    - you can kill a person with one shot but animals will run away and seem to take more damage

    - After acquiring a cool truck, I fast traveled and the truck was gone. I went back to the location where I found it and it was not there.

    - Outposts are super easy to take over

    - I am curious why there are no native Americans in the game. I really enjoyed the Longmire TV series and felt the game could have gone a bit further in depth this way.

It's a decent game, though not very difficult to play. The concept of having a "buddy" on call gives you limitless options to sneak up on people with animals, or rain fire from above while you watch on a hill.

Man what a colossal disappointment. One can suspend levels of disbelief to accept the basic premise of the game. However, Far Cry 5s problems are not just with the critical design but also the characters and forced plot. I will keep it spoiler free, but there are approximately ten times you are removed from the open world and forced to watch what Ubisoft has considered important. Not only are these instances unavoidable but they interrupt the flow of any fun you may have been having. For example, I was jumping out a plane skydiving roughly 200 ft in the air which then cut to black, tied to a chair, and forced to hear the family talk about "moral" choices.

All and all you could pick a worse action adventure FPS open world game but this one had so many little annoyances that the overall experience was ruined.

First off, the setting of Montana is very simple and rural, and while they did do a good job with capturing that, I feel as if they picked a simple and rural setting because of how....well....simple it is. Not much design to be done in a setting like this, and at times some areas feel copy and paste as others. The story also is very bland. Feels like a mini Ghost Recon Wildlands in terms of different Bosses for different Regions, in which each region you have to slowly liberate to get to each bosses breaking point so to speak so there is a lot of repetition. Also to add to my last point, I don't think they show enough of the villain characters throughout your playthrough to fully grow to like em or hate em. What also makes this game boring is how clunky the shooting mechanics are and always have been in Far Cry games. It hasn't completely hurt my experience with this game, but, the fact that this games clunky shooting can get a pass but games like Homefront Revolutions' or Sniper Ghost Warrior 3s' similar mechanics don't is head scratching. The A.I., both enemies and companions are laughable and stupid as stupid can get. I shoot enemy from his right side, he calmly turns and shoots then runs away from me, in which i chase him, he turns and stares at me like a frozen idiot and allows me to melee him to death or i throw remote explosive at a car, and the enemies jump out and stand still as if to say "stand your ground, this explosion below our feet won't blow our souls out of our bodies." I get that the A.I. in games can't be perfect at times but this game has so many moments with or against the A.I. that left me shaking my head at how unpolished they feel. Also scavenging and crafting is far too dumb'd down in comparison to previous Far Cry games, and removes a level of satisfaction in going around scavenging. Also it would've been nice to have a deeper set of weapons and/or gadgets to choose from.. this is supposed to be modern day and your character is supposed to be this Superman like Bad mofo.. yet, I find myself getting kills in similar ways. Would've been neat to have remote controlled explosives, shock drones, Poison darts and/or Poison for food and drinks while Stealth or even more melee weapon variety like having Swords, Battles Axes, Spiked Bats, etc.. in which have different animations.. My point is, this game does have an array of ways to kill but doesn't put emphasis on them other than completing simple challenges with specific weapons. As a whole, this game is dumb fun that i will admit I enjoy when i wanna play an open world game that I wanna be a destructive force in and kill time...but it's not a game I rush home from work to play, and a lot of times I find myself sitting at my Playstation debating if i'm in the mood to play it or not. Not saying it's a bad game, just stating how I feel about it and how i feel is that it is a game that hasn't captured me or kept me interested as consistently as I thought it would and it is because how boring and "typical open world gameplay" it is...nothing innovative or different and the setting adds to that bland feel. Having companions made it more entertaining and easier, weapons and customization are great although would be nicer if there were more weapons. Now let's talk about the ending which ultimately ruined the experience for me, I am not gonna spoil it but let's just say it is perhaps the worst ending I have seen in a long time.

Overall this is a game where you will end up spending a lot of hours and ultimately having fun, it's not a perfect game but it is was way better than Far Cry 4 (which I stopped playing after a few days due to how boring it was)

I'll start positive, it's beautiful. Mechanics are great, I always use the bow in these games, so that’s always fun.

I wish I had a PC to see it at max quality, but never the less it's gorgeous. I LOVE running around (I rarely drive in the far cry games) getting lost, finding random scenes and moments in the woods, it's amazing. Big fan of games that involve a lot of exploring and collecting so I’m very happy with this game for that. Also has an added awesome bonus that I’m running around with a bear and cougar by my side, feeling like a f**king warg.

It is also funny, as expected, I do end up skipping a lot of dialogue as people tend to go on a bit, but the character’s responses to you rushing them, always provides a little giggle.

There are also all the little moments, or hidden areas you run into along the way. A favourite scene was the haunted house, especially with the creepy dude looking at you and then walking away, I’m hoping more comes out of that little bit. And of course, I’m looking forward to getting into the Bigfoot mystery.

However, I find myself getting so frustrated with this game. Just some bits that feel like a missed opportunity, almost, lazy. I'm reluctant to use that word as I can understand the work that goes into a game.

But for instance, when you meet the specialist Jess Black - she goes into gruesome detail about the guy you're hunting "The Cook" a sadistic cannibal, who starves people and feeds human meat to them etc etc etc, so I’m thinking "Oh cool, a mini boss", I’m picturing a tall, probably fat dude, with a dirty apron, covered in blood, with a huge knife or something.... NOPE, just a run of the mill s**t bad guy with a flamethrower who looks just like all the other crap AI, such a huge let down.

With the main villains, well, I like the idea of who they are and get the type of characters they're supposed to be, (the performances are awesome) - but I just don't care about them. Get bored of the dialogue, find myself skipping a lot of it, ‘cuz it just goes on and on and on. I thought this game would be a bit crazier and more interesting, but it just seems to fall short of what it could have been, but hey-ho, the BLAM BLAM BLAM side of it is great so there's that.

What bothered me the most though was the constant repetitive, inescapable - get drugged, get caught, escape, s**t narrative. It’s the most annoying and stupid thing. All it did was break me away from my enjoyment of the game, it's frustrating. I wouldn't mind if it happened out of nowhere once or twice, as a little surprise, but 9 times?! And to only go and do the same s**t 3 times for each boss? Again, it just felt a bit all to familiar, somewhat lazy and unnecessary. It's like some studio head was like "This is what people loved from 3! Let's just multiply that s**t!!"

This is my first ever review online for anything media based, but I just had to for this game as I really want to love it all the way to 10, but I just can't. There's not a lot about it that made me care. That being said, I brought it, I'm yet to finish it, and apparently, I have a disappointing ending ahead of me. However, I do have a WHOLE bunch of collecting to do, so I’m happy about that. They also give you the option to reset all of the out posts, so think I’ll do that too, make it a little more exciting.

I’ll most likely check out the DLC’s, but not before watching the trailers and seeing what some of the reviews are saying.

    Pros:
    Beautiful looking game
Most sound effects and the addition of an echo

    Cons:
Feels like the least amount of destructible-environment I have seen since FC2
You can't shoot TVs or even turn radios off
The music matched the them, but just the Pause menu music got so annoying, I switched Music to Off
    Glitchy game right now 3/31/18
I hear and see a vehicle of enemies pulling up towards me, and will randomly disappear entirely
I have gotten stuck several times acending a wall with the grappling hook
The amount of times NPCs have you locked into a conversation when you are getting a radio call from someone, or bad guys are shooting you, or the most recent for me; getting bit by a rattlesnake. I suppose it makes it more realistic, but meh
Stores in-game seem to all want to connect to Ubisoft online or something, because they take forever to load up and sometimes get stuck
The loading times suck in this game. Yeah, it's huge and graphical, but so was Wildlands, and I feel strong those loading times were slightly less
Crafting is almost completely gone. You can craft a few explosive devices, and that's it I believe. And you pick those up all the time anyway. This makes looting and hunting almost obsolete, as money comes by better with just side and main missions.
Gun variety seems to have taken a step back from FC4. I suspect Ubi is gonna try and push micro transactions heavily on guns and vehicles.
Blow up cars or helicopters just kind of hang around as a blackened version of itself, never splitting into pieces or blowing up entirely
The game wasn't hard, but I decided to drop the difficulty level from Hard to Normal just because of how frequently bad guys pop-up EVERYWHERE. Can't get a 30 sec reprieve without them lining up.
This makes stealth play pretty useless, with how easy it is to get caupght. I had a silenced sniper that works sometimes, but try to shoot a lone sniper on a tall barn roof? Everyone around goes on alert. Needs tweaking.

    Par:
Story - Bad guys are okay with decent voice acting. Better than Wildlands, and they can't keep trying to replicate Vaas, so that's fine
Driving is done a good bit on dirt roads, so can be a bit of a pain to make quick escapes and turns, but adds to the realism
They abandoned giving your character a voice, like Ubi finally realized their usual main characters are so darn cookie-cutter, that they couldn't figure anything out better than silence
Create a character is something I always love, but this round is so useless as a pure FPS, and the options seem even more cash grabby than WIldlands

In the end, I found myself wishing some of the game was more like Dying Light, as this game is a par Far Cry game, but took some shuffles back on some of the most important aspects of what makes a game a Far Cry game for me.

The enemies and allies alike seem to be a total of about 6 models, you'll start to see familiar faces over and over and over again. The allies in particular do not seem to know how to cross a road properly, and will do dumb stuff like run into a fire that you've created accidentally whilst blowing up a fuel truck. There is also a bug currently where you maybe stuck playing in night time mode, my suggestion is to find a quest/ liberate an outpost which has an ending cut scene that is in day time. The game does also have a sub par ending, but i won't go into that in detail. My overall feel of the environments would be like a 9/10 but the repetitive nature of enemies and the dumbed down AI system for both allies and foes, i'd give a 3/10. Far Cry 5 is the first numbered game I’ve played in the series since far cry 2…
After hearing such great things about this game I thought my experience would be even better since Far Cry 5 would feel so fresh and new to me because I haven’t played 3 or 4..
I wouldn’t have that this is just more of the same kind feeling..
And despite this.. that feeling is exactly what I got here..
Far Cry 5 feels like just another bland and boring shooter…
The game takes play in a fictional hope county Montana USA
you play as your own created character out to take down Joseph Seed… A cult leader..
But to get to him in car cry fashion you have to regain control and liberate 3 different territories and take down his 3 siblings….
You can take them down in and order you’d like.. though the game suggests you start in the south and make your way up, so this is exactly what I did starting with John Seed…
And by this games roughly 28 hour long campaign you’ll understand exactly why the game suggests you start at the bottom and work your way up..
John seeds section is easily the strongest part of the game in terms of world building and level design… every area of this section of the map is memorable, it feels worth exploring for its treasures, the side quests feel worth doing…
And this is the majority of the campaign as well, taking me about 13 hours to clear, and then it’s on top faith seed which took about 10 hours to clear… the world building is miles weaker, but these 10 hours are saved by one of my favorite villains in video game history..
This was hands down my favorite chunk of the game thanks to how unique her individual missions are as you’re dealing with something called the bliss.. this causes hallucinations, and a creepily charming, seductive and hypnotic crazy girl that we’ve all dated before, and then the final 5 hours of the game is dealing with the mediocre Jacob seed section…
the world building in the north of this map is mind numbing garbage.. no heart here whatsoever…
so I’m happy it takes up so little of the campaign time…
But to get to these story missions you have to bring these characters out.. you have to cause mayhem around the world..
and this is what far cry fans love about the game…
liberating posts, destroying property, rescuing characters and animals like cheese burger the bear to call them in to help you during missions, you Can even play through the world co op with friends
and after you’ve done enough damage you’ll be marked and they will hunt you down and you then have to escape whatever scenario you find yourself in.. sadly, though there are only 3 missions for each character aside from their introduction…
    such a massive disappointment..
especially with a character such as faith seed..
it’s a shame how underused she is
I honestly would’ve preferred if she was the only character in the game, and we were constantly dealing with her tricks and seduction..
    shes so well written,
sadly this isn’t what we get… I feel that the first chunk if this game is the only section where any of this chaos causing gar cry fans enjoy is any fun
the faith seed section is saved by the character, but that’s the only redeeming quality.. the world gets more bland as the game goes on
After I cleared the first part of the map I resorted to just clearing missions with a helicopter.. that’s how little I cared to explore..
outside of the campaign there is a decently fun arcade mode where you can build your own singpleypalyer, co op, or death match maps using assets from the past far cry games and even games like assassins creed..
    plenty to get creative with..
but if you’re like me and creating the levels isn’t your thing you can just hop in to play other peoples maps or even have some decently fun competitive play with some alright maps thrown in there…
there isn’t the call of duty polish here, but I had a decent amount of fun.
Far Cry 5 has its moments of greatness despite feeling a bit lazy as it goes on.
this would’ve been a better game had it been smaller and more polished with much more narrative focus
I know Ubisoft would disagree with such a statement but at the end of the game I think we can all agree
We need a faith seed game
    I give Far Cry 5
    a 7.5/10

Far cry 5 is a great game, the gunplay is fantastic, the graphics are extraordinary and the world truly feels alive, this game was set to be one of my all-time favorites until the ending came. With a xbox one x I do'nt expect popups at all. Somehow it feels like they mixed up a bunch of stuff from several of their franchises but in total it just isn't doing it justice.
In the end i'm disappointed with Far Cry 5, the bar has been raised much higher these days.

P.s. Ubisoft, please share the effort and knowledge of the different teams?
For Example: The water in A.C. Origins is unbelievably awesome, in Far Cry 5 it's just Méh! Why?

The weapons customization is laughable in this day in age where games (Escape from Tarkov) allow users to modify virtually anything and everything on the weapon from rails to grips to different variations of sites, ammo and suppressors. Far cry has a bare bones approach with a select few options just like in other far crys. I wish they improved on this.
The mechanics and perk system are amazing. Seriously, they are great.
The followers you gain are useful...but to an extent of ai. The enemy AI is laughably stupid.
That being said, the game is what it is and a great and fun time at that.

    1. You get kidnapped/drugged 9 times.
    2. You can't drive the slowest cars I've ever seen in a game 50 feet without an animal or friendly running out into the road, or getting shot at.
    3. The airplanes/helicopters troll you more than the dragons did in Skyrim.
    4. Most of the weapons are just reskins. There's maybe 10 guns in the game.
    5. The ending is terrible. After a short 30 hour or so campaign you would have been better off just walking away at the beginning.

SMGs had like 3 variants of the MP5, for example. Driving controls are better this time around but flying controls are just… ugh. I’d rather have Ghost Recon Wildlands’ helicopter controls over FC5’s. Also, I must say I did NOT like how the game would force you into story missions each time you'd reach a new resistance level, especially since doing so could make you miss main story missions if something untoward happened to a quest NPC during the forced story event.

    - Soundtrack was fantastic. I really appreciated the hand crafted hymnals which were created specifically for Eden's Gate and the ambient Americana music while exploring fit very well.

    - John Seed’s story arc was probably the best of the three because it fit the crazy cult story line the closest. Faith Seed and Jacob Seed were essentially the same mindscrew, except one used drugs and the other used psychological conditioning. Neither were really interesting, IMO. I would have preferred they stuck with the crazy cult concept for Jacob and left Faith as the only character with metaphysical elements.

    - Fishing was on point and I spent too much time fishing. Hunting, conversely, was just a boring exercise. If I didn't HAVE to do it, I didn't bother. It was easy enough to earn money from side missions and fishing to the point where hunting wasn't really necessary.

    - Graphically, much like Guerrila Games did with Horizon a year ago, Ubisoft really nailed the Rocky Mountain west. The terrain, rivers, flora and fauna - all very well done and makes Hope County Montana a very believable and interesting location.

    - Far Cry Arcade has potential but right now there’s limited curation meaning most of the maps you get are pretty weak. Hopefully it gets better as more assets are added and people get more time behind the map creator.

    - And finally, the ending(s) were absolutely awful. I realize "Far Cry Ending is Bad" has practically become a meme at this point but these endings doubled down on that and went almost Mass Effect 3 levels of bad. I can't really go into detail here without spoilers but the endings were so disappointing that they soured my entire view of the game and makes me not want to play it again. I'm knocking a full point off the score for this fact alone.

All in all, decent. But part of me wishes I had just rented it instead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lmao, this game is so bad in so many ways but I’m going to focus on the joke of an arcade mode. First off, they have a stupid picking system where only the most brain dead people in earth can write a review and they let 5 people pick; and yet while I wait in lobbies for several god awful matches I still can never pick and only the retards who pick the worst maps can. Even the ‘featured’ maps which aren’t made by Ubisoft themselves are pretty horrible and the gameplay is SOOO bad. After going through and getting into a lobby with a bunch of idiots who spam the remote explosives (like Bo2’s C4’s except Bo2 multiplayer was actually fun, than you’ll find there’s no load out customization and that you spawn with a stupid secondary rather than a primary weapon. The melee weapons are so unbalanced and there’s a Ubisoft published map that has stupid modifiers in a MULTIPLAYET game; its not a fun mode like mike Myers or something; there’s INFINITE AMMO, along with a bunch of other **** So everybody just picks the remote explosives and you don’t get any negatives for dying so people can just suicide bomb and they only get a positive. The matches last for WAYYY to long and there’s no action or fun moments; 10minutes and 100killd to win for a sluggish boring mode, with no balancing, customization, and the absolutely retarded takedown system where on the FFA wizard fetaured map you just get killed by the hacker who can takedown 5 people and sustain 12 melee hits while he 1 shots you. Not only did they make the new takedown system completely unfun and frustrating but WHY in the multiplayer. There’s no balancing, a cesspool of **** unbalanced, 1 minute to make maps that these idiots actually vote for and they just use the most unfun **** long loading ones, obnoxious player base, and horrible gameplay, they didn’t change anything from the campaign and therefore there’s no balancing and it’s all just thrown in with no thought. This game doesn’t deserve any praise and the campaign got repetitive and the ‘bunker’/bliss **** got so obnoxious and unfun. The only good thing at the beginning was some somewhat fun side missions and the ending. The arcade mode was tacked on and if you buy this game in the hopes of getting extra playtime you will be THIROUGHLY dissapointed. Game of The Year my ass Expand

But sadly, some things here and there weren't pleasant in my opinion. Sometimes the game is deep and entertaining, other times it is painful and no sense. And it seems to me that the game drives you to get some extra "strenght", we can call it, with real money, so you can complete some situations with more semplicity and less time. And in conclusion, the finals are... so disappointing. It made me think that all my patience, all my efforts and time put in this game were useless, although everything I did. It made me say "After all the hours playing this, that's my result?". Expand

I shot one radio in a house and that seemed to work! The radio in the car plays 2 stations: either that holy roller crap or hard punk rock!! Makes it hard to hear what NPC's are saying or that dude that contacts you all the time, Dutch. Very distracting!! At least in Far Cry 3 you had good music in the vehicles and Robbie Ray Rana in Far Cry 4 who was hilarious. And the NPC's said funny things. There's nothing funny about this fanatical cult. Story is kinda boring - I've forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing several times. Game does not explain crafting or plant gathering and there is no crafting of pouches, etc, which was fun in other games. Doesn't really seem like a Far Cry game just an open world shooter. The character you play doesn't even speak!! Therefore, you can't get interested in her/him. At least that knucklehead, Jason, talked and you kinda felt sorry for him. Other thing I can't stand is the cult members appear out of nowhere and you constantly get distracted from the quest you are on to fight them. Seems like every vehicle that drives by is a cult member out to get you. Haven't found any cool caves yet either just a lot of woods and farm animals (did get to see a horny bull!) and some wild animals. Thought I could play the Arcade thing solo but it requires Playstation Plus which I refuse to buy. Not a game that makes you want to keep playing all the time. Expand

There is co-op but it's invite-only. The map editor is back, a feature that has been absent since Far Cry 2 a decade ago, but it feels like everything in Arcade Mode including that was tacked on at the very last moment. Overall the gameplay is starting to feel outdated, and also further plagued by glitches, a couple of them even quest-breaking.

That being said, this game is good. An expansive environment and cast of characters give you a ton to do with your time in Hope County. I loved the idea of setting a game in modern-day America which can give you a real moral struggle when you're killing these cult members (who are really just American citizens who have been brainwashed by the Seed crew). If you liked/loved Far Cry 3,4, and/or Primal, you will definitely enjoy this game. However there are still the same drawbacks to those games in this one as well - the main one being repetitiveness. In order to fight a Lieutenant/Leader of a section of the Cult, you have to destabilize the region. Once all the Leaders have been taken care of, you can then move on to the final confrontation with the "Ultimate Leader".

Again, this game is good. Is it good enough to be advertised everywhere and plastered all over anything related to gaming for all of a month? No. Is it good enough to waste 20-40 hours of your life? Yes. Does it make you think critically about life choices? It tries. If you as a player do some critical thinking, it might be more than just a simple game. But in the end to me, that's really all it ended up being.

Having played Far Cry 5 for a few weeks, I am about to finish the main story. I didn't rush through it and took my time finishing a region before moving on to the next. I didn't rush through it and took my time finishing a region before moving on to the next. Having played a lot of open world games, I was really hesitant about another open world where it's basically a checklist you're working through. I thought it would be really repetitive. I played Ghost Recon Wildlands last year which was fun at first but quickly turned into the same repetitive tasks as well as Assassins creed Origins which I didn't even finish. I pretty much always finish a game (I even ended up getting the platinum trophy for Wildlands!) but AC Origins was too much of the same thing, it got boring. Far Cry 5 has given me some of these moments but I'm still playing. Overall the environment is beautiful, I like the setting, nature, animals, day/night cycle. The missions are varied enough to keep me engaged with the exception of several useless missions which were awful and reminded me of Wildlands/Origins. Missions like 'collect 0/12 items' of this or that are pointless. Just like a mission forcing you to get roadkill kills and you’re driving around for an hour looking for that animal spawn. Complete waste of time, 0 fun, why? Whoever thought that would be a good mission should be fired. Let alone having to do it twice (once for deer and once for bison). Checking off outposts is getting kind of old too.
Other than that, exploring is a lot of fun. Everything looks good so it's nice to walk around and explore the environment, see what's in a house, checkout a good fishing spot etc. What really bothers me is the vehicle camera which can't be switched to 3rd person. It's ridiculous and makes driving a hassle. This in combination with nature being beautiful made it so I just walk somewhere to see my surroundings or get a helicopter (and I’m back to GR Wildlands flying from task to task). 0 incentive to drive vehicles has made me save up to over $75.000 in game dollars and I’ve bought all the weapons I want including several helicopters, planes, boats and cars. So people complaining about not having enough money is nonsense. The weapons are limited because a lot of them have the same stats. Customization is limited. Vehicles are annoying to drive so I don’t even bother buying them, they’re all the same and the in-vehicle camera is annoying. In addition to this you unlock plenty of vehicles in main missions. No incentive to buy vehicles.
Doubted my purchase thinking it would be another ‘chore’ playing it and travelling around the map ticking off boxes. It kind of is but I still found it worth it, largely due to the environment/exploring. I am ready for a new type of game though, probably God of War. I’ll come back to open world down the line.

I was worried that far cry 5 would be a lazy reskin of far cry 4, but its not. So those saying this is a reskin of previous far cry titles, don't listen to them because they are being extremely disingenuous. This game has many new features that previous far cry games did not have. FC5 both expands upon good features and scraps bad features from previous FC games. The story doesn't make sense in the setting its presented in because this whole scenario would never happen in America. Previous FC games had settings that made sense. FC3 was set in a lone island and FC4 was set in the some remote country. FC5 is set in a county in Montana in the U.S. So right away, the story is off to a bad start, but its a fictional setting in a video game so i guess you can give it points for being cheesy. The weapon variety is not varried at all really. I hope that new community events will lead to more weapons being added like the vector was. If more weapons are added like that, then the game will be better off long term. Overall though, FC5 feels both refreshing and very familiar. Although, in the age of almost every video game being an open world title, i suppose its hard to make your open world game very different and unique. All in all, I've had a lot of fun playing FC5, but i don't see myself or my friend that i played the whole game cooperatively with, going through a second playthrough. I know people will both agree and disagree with my assessment of the game, but thats what metacritic is for. Expand

Far Cry 5 is one of those games that starts off with a bang, but doesn't really know where to go from there. The cultist theme was what really drew me to this game, but there wasn't nearly enough Joseph Seed and too much of his siblings. The side quests become monotonous and repetitive very quickly, and by the third area of the game I started to just forget them and focused on the story. The map is beautiful and there were lots of side things I really enjoyed doing, like fishing and hunting. The companions you can have are usually really annoying, which is why I only ever had animals following me around. The character customization is a joke and doesn't allow you to customize very much at all. This game was honestly a 7/10 for me until I beat it, then it lost another point. If you're a big Far Cry fan, try it out, but I was fairly disappointed in how awesome this game started and how boring it became by the end. Expand

6/10 - Far Cry 5 is okay, but not more.

Story: The Story in FC5 is very weak. The game is filled with irrelevant sidequests that are simply not fun. I don't even have to start talking about the bosses. They are a bad joke. I expected so much from a Far Cry story and didn't get the slightest bit of what I expected. Multiplayer: I only played the multiplayer once and had no fun at all.

Multiplayer: I only played the multiplayer once and had no fun at all. Don't buy FC5 because of the multiplayer!

Other: Furthermore it has to be said that the AI in FC5 is very stupid. This makes enemy bases very easy to capture. The game contains some bugs that are often funny. But I can well imagine that these will bother many of you. But I have to say that the gunplay is a lot of fun. It feels very good. This is where Far Cry 5 scores!

Conclusion: The game is okay. But I expected a lot more, especially from the story. If you had fun with Far Cry Primal, for example, you will also find your fun here. If you don't enjoy Far Cry in general, don't touch it here. As far as the story is concerned, Far Cry 5 definitely doesn't offer an emotional story. You play the story and will forget that Far Cry 5 exists. There's nothing to remember.

The way Ubisoft has so rigidly stuck to virtually the exact same formula since Far Cry 3 is frankly laughable and you can almost imagine the developers working through a check list of everything they have to include when creating these games. The core gameplay does remain relatively fun but as a single player experience I'd have had absolutely no interest in playing through another one of these games and its about time Ubisoft at least attempted innovate the franchise.

Having said that I have found it still makes for a worthwhile co-op experience and, seeing as the game is relatively cheap these days, its worth picking up to play through the entire campaign with a friend.

It didn't start particularly well, as my game froze for about 10 minutes on the first load. After a while, I closed the game and restarted it only for the same thing to happen again. After googling around I stumbled on the ubisoft support article explaining that if the game is frozen on an image of two people it's actually a character gender select screen and a gender should be selected. Unbelievable, so instead of some text stating it's a character select screen, or otherwise relaying via some other type of method asking me to select a character they decide to leave silhouettes of player models with no text and instead have a support page on the website explaining the player needs to select a model. Such a terrible design.

This poor start didn't improve through the beginning of the game. Aside from a very brief and simplistic intro to the world, you're sent off to figure everything out yourself.

The plot is poorly conveyed, and frankly boring. The 'story' missions are uninspired and tedious and most have very little bearing to the actual plot. I found the characters uninteresting.
In fact the entire game just feels like a series of incohesive quests dumped on a map, the narrative is thin and relayed terribly. Even Far Cry Primal felt like a more cohesive campaign than Far Cry 5.
I don't recall feeling this way with Far cry 3 or 4.
Even Far Cry 2 had me caught up on things fairly quickly.

Far Cry 5 doesn't give you actual story missions to visit (well aside from boss fights). You get character time with the main characters of the game mostly by completing a certain number of missions in particular regions of land. This means it's a fairly long time until you get to actually meet the Creed family and it can be a bit of a chore keeping interested by those points.
I found Jacob and John pretty pointless characters, but Faith was fascinating, and I wish the game was just about her and Joseph.

Overall the game is fairly straight forward, you get missions by meeting the right people in the world, finding those people, as well as unlocking fast travel points are the most important things in the game.
That combined with finding money stashes and perk point magazines, which you need to have any hope in getting decent weapons or abilities, means that exploring the whole world is very important. Plus as you meet the right people you'll get allies that will assist you and transport you around as well as revive you.
So essentially you have to forget about the actual plot of the game and just try to explore as much as you can, and once you're leveled up enough with weapons, allies, perks, and money the game starts to get a bit more interesting and it'll coincide with plot developments.

I kinda wish more character development, and world-building was done early in the game so it didn't feel like such a chore to actually get to a point where the game starts to become interesting.

The ending comes out of nowhere. I get that it's meant to signify that it's not just Montanna that's falling apart, but it really just comes out of nowhere and has no bearing with the story arc of the game. I don't recall any world-building within the game to prepare us for it.
I'm about to start New Dawn, so we'll see how I feel about it in the future.

Three things I wish were fixed with Far Cry 5 (side from the redundant character select screen):

There are no audio volume options, you can set the master volume and that's it, but the sound effects drown out the music and voice so you cant hear what characters are saying. I found myself constantly changing the volume on my tv to hear what characters say then turning it down after to stop the deafening sound effects. Use subtitles.

Ubisoft have removed the ability to toggle/filter a legend on the map, and also the ability to traverse through landmarks via dpad, making finding things on the map much harder than previous far cry games. I don't know why, and find it unnecessary and annoying.

The nigh-constant spawning/de-spawning of enemies, friendlies, and animals reminds me of older GTA titles. Example: A bear attacks some cows in a pasture; you shift your view towards a nearby outpost, take a few quick steps, turn around, and the bear and cows are gone. The clash of all of these scripted/unscripted events seems only lends to the overall sense of chaos that saturates this wild caricature of 'Murican culture and violent extremism in the face of social and political pressure. This general premise echoes real-world events and concerns, but all of the blind patriotism and fanaticism boils down to window dressing for a flawed-but-fun sandbox romp that seems a bit half-baked.

The visuals generate impressive vistas, but aggressive LOD and pop-in occasionally mar the view--even on a PS4 Pro. The textures and details are more than decent, however--especially in comparison to the previous games. The music and sound effects are solid, but recycled assets are readily apparent. There are some licensed tracks that lend flavor to certain scenes and stifle the monotony of driving down these dusty roads.

All things considered, FC5 is best enjoyed in small doses--lest the repetitive noise of its chaos and tropes grind one's enthusiasm into Montana's dirt.

I did most of the game with the base weapons because there's a trophy that makes me spend 50,000 in the vehicle shop.. which took up most of my money. Although that wasn't the main factor, the other part was that I couldn't figure out if any of the other guns were any different or even worth investing into. They all seemed like the same gun with the same power to me. Overall kind of useless to have so many guns and so much possibility and use almost the default load out the whole game.

A couple of the people you can hire to travel with you are pretty great. And it's pretty satisfying blowing people up. There's never any real insane moments though. Nothing spectacular. They're all pretty short sequences with 2-3 guys or 2 sets of 2-3 guys running or driving in. There's only a couple enemy types as well which is kind of boring.

There's so many loading screens, it's ridiculous. You fail any quest and you're back to loading 40 seconds with a ps4 pro. I'm not even sure what it's loading sometimes.

Multiplayer is pretty fun but that's mainly because it's mp. Sometimes the connecting player seems to have lag issues though. And they can't unlock most of the trophies from campaign unless they are the host.

The reviews for this pile of trash are all the proof I'll ever need that "video game journalists" are paid for good reviews. It is easily the worst game I have ever played to the end and I have been playing and finishing video games since 1985.
EDIT: I have moved my score up from a 2 to a 5, not because of the campaign. Actually my opinion of it is even lower than before since starting New Game+ to see the hidden ending and realizing that even in New Game+ you cannot skip the horrendous, nauseating story scenes that make me want to grab the game designers by the ears and scream "WTF were you thinking?"

What saves this game from being utter trash is Arcade Mode and the community created content. One day in Arcade mode and I am having more fun than in the weeks it took me to do the campaign. And when I say more fun, I mean drastically more fun. Even so I can't give this game a good review. Arcade is great, and I can't wait to cut my teeth in the editor, but the campaign is so bad it is downright grotesque. If not for Arcade I would still feel cheated buying the game at a discount. If you get this, be prepared for a horribly designed campaign mode that is only any fun when it leaves you alone and actually lets you play in the sandbox. But Arcade is actually a pretty good consolation prize.

I’m not sure what kind of vibranium are theirs helmets made of. Then, when I almost to give the game a solid 8 for the story and fun of it I remember the lame driving system. No realism, no sense in the steering system, absolutely no sense in the speed, you are at 100 km/h (60mp/h) at the road, you take the foot from the gas pedal and in less then two seconds speed is halved. If you don’t want to make a good driving system, don’t propose to put driving as such an important part of the game. So, I think it would have been a good idea to let you choose an easier level for those who prefer to focus on the story. I haven't watched the end but from my experience and having beaten Far Cry 3 some years ago I think this game could be rated with a 7 or an 8 at most. Gameplay is good but I think the game should be shorter or to put more story things during game because if not you can lose interest in the game. To sum up, this game is nothing out of the ordinary and it's not a bad game per se but know that you might end up stuck or having to repeat some missons if you are not a pro or you stick only to the main missions.
