I am baffled by all the low scores from critics because they didn't like the story, or didn't feel the story lived up to its premise. Yeah, the story DOES suck. Running and gunning is better than ever before, and they tuned all the gameplay mechanics to make one of the tightest FPS I've played in forever. They also dramatically improved vehicle handling, so now I look forward to driving around instead of treating it like a chore.
If you like action games, or hell even if you don't, but want to feel like you're living in an action movie, this is a must-buy!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game isn't really a 0 but i have to give it that for the story and that morally repugnant ending it has. You CANNOT allow a crazy fundamentalist who "god" talks to be correct!!!!! what kind of message is that sending? Might as well tell people "you know what maybe (insert whatever fundamentalist group you want here) is right? what if their leader really does talk to god?

No, just **** no. In the current climate we live in, hell anytime ever, saying that a cult really has all the answers is incredibly misguided.

if you want to do a nihilist type ending fine, that could have been interesting if it was well done, but this was not well done. Don't wast your time or money playing this game.

Without a doubt the best Far Cry game in the series, Far Cry 5 is a roaring return to form both in terms of gameplay, game world design and to a certain extent storytelling. It's plot does become some what of a detriment to the game by the end but the rest of the time you'll be having so much fun that you'll find the plot holes and faults very easy to forgive.

Far Cry is a series that has always gotten the storytelling side of things half right and that is a half more than most every FPS out there. Far Cry games probably have the best plots of any FPS I've played but they seemingly always lose steam by their endings or make a few poor decisions on the way that mar the rest of the story. It's been this way forever. Vaas in FC3 was one of the most engaging and well acted villains in gaming...but then they don't make him the main villain and you spend the 2nd half of the game chasing some lack luster bad guys who is thrown at you suddenly. FC4 tried it's hardest to capture that Vaas magic with Pagan Min but it fell flat. FC5 finally gets that dynamic of "awesome villain" right again and not only that, it does it 4 times. Joseph Seed and his 3 "heralds" are each unique and riveting to do battle with. Their voice acting is superb and their backstories and character are all on point. You run from area to area taking them down and each one is a story unto itself and each one keeps you engaged. Where FC5 falls down is that it talks a lot, each of the villains gets ample opportunity for booming voiced monologues full of bombast and emotion and each VA does a brilliant job with all these moments. But once the games finished you really come to realize that for all they said, they didn't really say anything if importance. FC5 lacks an overall narrative. They very vaguely attack the idea that the modern world has become weak, slothful and impure but thats about it. It says a lot but it doesn't seem to know its own point. By the games end you're no more sure of what exactly it was they were rebelling against than you were at the beginning. The ending, which I won't spoil, is from WAY out of left field and whilst I can understand why it'd rub people wrong, I at least respected they went somewhere I didn't see coming. A final thing with the plot is they try and force emotional attachment to some "good guys" that simply isn't there. In each region you have to save a member of the team you came in with and the game is acting as though this is of vital importance to your character but the thing is as a player, I just didn't care. I didn't care because I'd spent maybe 5 minutes with them at the start of the game before it all goes south and had no attachment whatsoever. I had more attachment to some of the Guns For Hire you use as AI buddies than the 4 characters you're meant to be attached to and "saving" . But to focus on that is harsh, the vast majority of the plot is exciting, well written and as good of an attempt as they've had since FC3. I would venture to say this is their best plot yet.

What FC has never struggled with however is fun and FC5 is undoubtedly an absolute ton of fun to play. You transition seemlessly from tackling outposts, taking on story missions, going on wild prepper stash searches and just generally exploring and taking in the world. The world is vast and absolutely beautiful. The scale of it is staggering and there is plenty to see and do. The new approach of having to organically discover everything (locations, quests, hunting) is a very smart decision. You might take an outpost and talk to an NPC there who uncovers a quest or something for you to do next. Much more engaging than radio towers and it really helped the world feel more complete.

The AI of enemies is quite poor and it has never been strong in FC to begin with. You'll not struggle too much taking any of them down and their detection ability is awful. With the addition of front takedowns you can literally sprint up to enemies and if you're quick enough, insta-kill them with a takedown. You don't really play FC to be challenged though, the idea is to feel like an unstoppable killing machine. Friendly AI is all over the place varying from "killing stuff before you even saw it" to "standing in front of a mounted gun as you fire it". But they are good enough for me to nearly constantly have 2 with me so there is that.

Sound Design is brilliant, besides aforementioned voice acting there is a wealth of licensed music in the game used to great effect as they often have done in this series. The use of hymns in cult areas really adds to the atmosphere of the area as well.

Overall I just had a great time with FC5. It isn't without its flaws, most of them relating to the lack of a strong narrative for it's strong villains to pursue but I certainly am not disappointed with the game whatsoever. I had a great time (about 25 hours) finishing it and will go back for more. Really this is everything you could want in a FC game.

Big fan of the Far Cry franchise but 5 is the worst hands down!(Worse than Primal) the story was ok i guess although nothing special, The mechanics were awful especially the flying controls and the constant enemy spawning got old fast! One thing i like about Far Cry is about exploring the beautiful map but because of the enemy spawning constantly i put me off doing that.

There are three regions, each objective you finish gives you points, when you get all the points needed, you face the boss for each of the three regions, and then a showdown with the main villain. What I loved about the game was that the majority of the story and side missions were fun and diverse, none seem overly similar to each other. Be warned though, the majority of the missions are also kitchen sink missions that you can find in other open world games, just with a far cry twist. I also loved the side activities, bar the outposts. The prepper stash and dixon challenges were amazing and a blast; driving and flying was simple and satisfying. The npcs for hire (that fights beside you) was also a good addition to this franchise imo. The stuff I found just ok was the minimalist story approach this game took, it's in interesting theme but story was almost non-existant. I also was also semi-disappointed hunting was almost non-essential this iteration. The bad of this game was the lack of weapon variety, lack of enemy variety (also copy and paste enemy soldiers), questionable a.i, and in my opinion lets just say there is a part of the game that made me go wtf. To end, a great game that isn't going to blow anyone over, but it has amazing side content, and a game I can recommend to anyone looking for a good open world game, but maybe not for those burn-tout by farcry. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have played for about 15 hours and am going crazy with that psalm singing blaring from every radio and house!!!! You can't turn it off!! I shot one radio in a house and that seemed to work! The radio in the car plays 2 stations: either that holy roller crap or hard punk rock!! Makes it hard to hear what NPC's are saying or that dude that contacts you all the time, Dutch. Very distracting!! At least in Far Cry 3 you had good music in the vehicles and Robbie Ray Rana in Far Cry 4 who was hilarious. And the NPC's said funny things. There's nothing funny about this fanatical cult. Story is kinda boring - I've forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing several times. Game does not explain crafting or plant gathering and there is no crafting of pouches, etc, which was fun in other games. Doesn't really seem like a Far Cry game just an open world shooter. The character you play doesn't even speak!! Therefore, you can't get interested in her/him. At least that knucklehead, Jason, talked and you kinda felt sorry for him. Other thing I can't stand is the cult members appear out of nowhere and you constantly get distracted from the quest you are on to fight them. Seems like every vehicle that drives by is a cult member out to get you. Haven't found any cool caves yet either just a lot of woods and farm animals (did get to see a horny bull!) and some wild animals. Thought I could play the Arcade thing solo but it requires Playstation Plus which I refuse to buy. Not a game that makes you want to keep playing all the time. Expand

There is co-op but it's invite-only. The map editor is back, a feature that has been absent since Far Cry 2 a decade ago, but it feels like everything in Arcade Mode including that was tacked on at the very last moment. Overall the gameplay is starting to feel outdated, and also further plagued by glitches, a couple of them even quest-breaking.

It's obviously not the best in the series, but I don't think it's the worst either considering the game's lasting appeal.

Whether you're playing Assassins Creed Origins, Far Cry 5 and it will probably be the same for The Crew 2 when it arrives, there's always a sense of familiarity about Ubisoft titles, more so today than years past. Leaps forward have been more controlled but there has been a refinement which has delivered vast game worlds packed with content and in the case of Assassins Creed Origins and Far Cry 5, compelling stories.

Far Cry 5 takes us to Montana and we play the part of the rookie deputy, part of a task force sent into the fictional Hope County to arrest the games bad guy Joseph Seed AKA The Father. Joseph Seed is flanked by his faithful companions and Lieutenants whom you must defeat. My personal favourite is faith but the others are likeable foes. John Seed reminds me a bit of Ryan Reynolds . The story starts off tense with the utter madness of the game being mixed in between the story line. I Enjoyed the plot and thought it was written well and well acted by the voice actors there's nothing that really stands out for me though and for that reason I can't see Far Cry 5 being remembered for it's story alone.

Luckily Far Cry 5 has an awful lot of other things going for it. The game world is beautiful and full to the brim of content. Ubisoft have done a great job recreating rural Montana and it's really surprising to see how beautiful the game looks on even the original Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Ubisoft have clearly put in a lot of work with the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X versions of the game with the latter managing to output at native 4k although both versions give stunning crisp visuals. Even the PC version has had a lot of attention with the game looking stunning and running very smoothly.

As with most Ubisoft games Far Cry 5 offers you the chance to focus on story missions but you'll often find yourself getting distracted by one of the many side missions you can encounter along the way. The random encounters with NPCs and wildlife offer perhaps the most humorous moments though. One minute you'll be merrily navigating your way through the game and the next something bizarre and funny will unfold in front of you. The ragdoll system also provides many laughs and not once have I found myself getting frustrated or bored.

There's plenty of customisation for both weapons and your character and whilst there are micro-transactions in the game I've not found myself tempted or manipulated into purchasing anything. There are plenty of vehicles at your disposal and if you want to take a break from the madness of the game there's other activities to do too like swooping down hill sides in your wing-suit or perhaps my favourite in game pass time fishing. If you want to try something a bit more radical then there's always the Far Cry 5 Arcade mode to sink your teeth in too. Players can create their own maps and challenges that can be downloaded and played by others and this game mode will give you plenty of replayability and unadulterd fun.

Movement and gunplay is nice and sharp with decent difficulty scaling. The AI could be improved but their sometime stupid and random actions can often lead to some truly memorable and funny moments. All in all I have to say that Far Cry 5 is the best game I've played this year so far. It's not perfect and there's plenty that could be done better but there's just so much that's been refined and Ubisoft have created a game that is just so much fun to play. I have no idea where the series is going to go after this but with Far Cry 5 Ubisoft have really raised the bar. This is a game that deserves a place in your collection.

So if you didn't like the 3 or 4, you might not like this. But if 3 and 4 was the best thing since sliced bread - this will be amazing. The premise of the game (not to spoil anything) is you against a weaponized cult, and in the process, you'll have to fight the three siblings before going head to head with the mastermind. This both gives diversity to the game and limits how well you really get to know the antagonists. Your direct contact with the antagonists is in segments before you end up with a confrontation and this is both a missed opportunity and where the game shines. They have each their own personalities and reasons for what they do, but splitting the story like that and having so few contact points with it doesn't really connect you with the story as much as you could. So it doesn't have the impact the story could have been. If they had either had a lot more contact points. Missions that relates more to the story and also missions that connect the sides of the story better would have helped. but it's not as good as it could have been. But it is a lot of missions and side missions, so for a completionist, as me, it was no problem using 60 hours before I got the platinum, but you sure can do it in a shorter time if you are in a rush. And the arcade mode gives an almost endless entertainment value for people like me that loves the game mechanics. Multiplayer is fanatic but once you get a hang of it, it's a lot of fun. Perfect for short bursts of gaming but I'd prefer if they had an open multiplayer mode in the game itself - you can have friends join the game but well. As an adult, I don't have that many that take time for gaming and like the games I like.

The game mechanics are improved from earlier games. Driving cars is about the same, it's pretty solid and arcade-ish. Felt I couldn't take as wild jumps (get easier hurt by the landing) but that's not a problem. But what's new is that instead of the single one man chopper from far cry 4 - you got seaplanes, faster spitfire-type planes and a number of choppers and everything from atv to semi trucks to jet boats to gunboats. You either get them from garages or find them in the wild, so there are always easy ways to get around. You have the classic far cry bow and a number of other weapons. You got a number of perks to unlock, but few are critical for the gameplay so it's quick to get into and feel like you have control. Money is not that plenty as previous games unless you do a certain type of mission, but I had unlocked most by the end of the game. Could be less when playing hard as I did.

Anyhow, it's not a perfect game but for someone who likes the far cry experience, it's a must-have. It's better than the previous ones but without as strong story telling as far cry 3.

My favorite Far Cry so far. I played the hell out of it. I understand why the story made some conservative players in the US cringe, but hey the game is not about trying to please anyone. It’s a creative take on what’s been going on in the US the last few years. Take it or leave it!

While not in the ranks of Witcher 3 and similar open world juggernauts, it is a very entertaining experience with plenty of do and the things to do are also worthwhile. Exploring and finding a cabin with a note from the previous inhabitants is a surprisingly rewarding experience. The writing id also pretty tight ovrrall.

The game is mechanically sound but the story is really flat and there isn't much innovation here. It's just another Far Cry. The co-op was nice but it wasn't balanced well. The game was just too easy when played in co-op.

The game is good. Yes, it's the same recipe as Far Cry 3, with better graphic and the game in general have a better personality. The graphics are optimize and very nive. There's no skill tree and the progression system is akward. There's microtransaction so that's minus 1 point. But overall, I've played around 30 hour and it was worth it's price.

Far Cry 5 is an interesting game, its fun and the gameplay is fantastic but the story is disappointing. The game has an amazing start, where your character is a Police Officer in the state of Montana. So the game is based in the United States and that instantly made it interesting for me personally. I live in the United States so in my mind there would be some relatability. The whole premise is, there is a sadistic cult that has taken control of a county in the state of Montana. The Cult leader name is Joseph Seed and he believes he speaks to god and is doing gods work. It’s a very boilerplate cultist premise.

The thing is, even though it is very generic the way they start the game, it’s very powerful. You’re in a helicopter with a few other police officers, you’re going there to detain Joseph Seed but once you get there and handcuff Joseph his followers don’t like it. As you’re flying away in the helicopter his followers start jumping on the helicopter and one gets caught in the propeller with brings the helicopter down. Narratively this is the most powerful moment in the entire game. Seeing these cult members kill themselves for Joseph Seed sets a tone that the rest of the game just doesn’t live up to.

The gameplay is what kept me going with this game. The weird thing about this game is, the gameplay reminded me less of Far Cry 4 and more of Ghost Recon: Wildlands. The game was split into the three regions and each region has a person at the top. If you take out all three of those people then you can get to Joseph who’s at the very top of it all. Narratively this is what creates some of the issues. One staple of Far Cry (especially 3 and 4) is the game has very charismatic and almost likable villains. This game tries to take it another step where it has 4 villains rather than the 1 iconic one. So what ends up happening is everything gets spread too thin and not a single one gets enough screen time for you to care.

Now the regions aren’t all bad, narratively it falls short but having the regions allows the gameplay to feel much more organic. Each region has “Region Points Bar” and you want to fill that bar so you can take on the region leader. As you can see by this picture the Faith Region is 13,000, there is also John’s region which is also 13,000 and Jacob’s which is only 10,000. It sounds like a lot but it doesn’t take as long you would think. I would guess that the whole game took me 20-25 hours so I would guess that each region took me 6 hours.

Getting back to what I was talking about with the natural flow of the game with these regions, you can do whatever you want to fill that bar. There are “story missions” but not in the traditional sense. These just give more region points but you do not have to complete all of them. The way I played the game was simple, I would walk into an area. I would explore, run into a group of cult members. You kill them and there is a specific enemy type that if you kill then you get 50 region points. Keep exploring and now you’ve run into a cult shrine and if you blow that up you get 100 or 200 (I don’t remember the exact amount). The cult takes people hostage if you rescue people that 50 or 75 (depending on how many you save). Then you keep exploring and eventually, you’ll run into “story” missions which will give 600 or 900. Then there are side missions and then there are camps that you have to eliminate everyone in which is just like old Far Cry. Everything you do builds up that meter and it doesn’t feel like the standard Ubisoft open world game where you’re opening up the map and checking things off. Everything feels much more organic and free-flowing.

I don’t want to focus on all positives as I do have one more complaint about the game and that’s the games scaling. The game is very open, almost immediately so you’re just thrown into the world and can go and do whatever you want. What I found was, early on it was very difficult. I didn’t have anything unlocked and I was dying quite a bit. As I progressed through the game, the enemies didn’t change at all so the game got easier and by the end of the game, I was playing it like Doom. I had a shotgun and I was going through corridors and blasting through enemies, now don’t get me wrong. It was awesome but it does show an inherent laziness by the developers. Instead of making it so enemies scale with you, they’re just created once and they’re all the same throughout the game.

At the end of the day, I did end up enjoying this game. Sure it had a great 10 minutes and then the next 2-3 hours, I did not have a good time. But as I unlocked perks and the gear, the game only got better and by the end I was having a fun time. It’s hard to recommend this game but if you’re like me and enjoy Far Cry then pick it up. If you don’t like Ubisoft Open-World games then avoid.

For me the best one so far, the story doesn't stop being far cry but I do think it tries new things and does it well, makes the secondary missions entertaining and not repetitive, gives you a map where your going to have something to do for a long time, but on multiplayer it doesn't shine and besides co-op didn't caught my attention.

The gameplay retains much of the same from past games, and while it may feel like more of the same, it's still a lot of fun. The perk system in my opinion is a downgrade from the XP system from the past games, and can make the game feel rather grindy. The map is not as big as FC4, but it trims a lot of the useless fat that made that game feel like such a slog at time. There's no hundreds of treasure chests icons flooding the map, and while there is less to collect, I found myself actually grateful for the lack of useless fluff. It's certainly the shortest of the three games I played, having beaten it within about a week and a half(FC4 took me the better part of a month to get through!) The environment is beautiful and certainly feels like an authentic American setting, unlike the fake East Asian Islands in FC3 and the blended mix of India, Tibet, and Thailand that was FC4. The only bad thing I have to say about this game is that its ending is a major downer. I won't spoil anything, but I didn't see it coming and a felt a little bummed after it all. Overall, Far Cry 5 is another solid entries in a solid series, and makes me curious just where Ubisoft will take us with the next game. Expand

Far Cry 5 is much more than an extremely gratifying compilation of all gameplay features, story tropes, elements and mechanics that make the Far Cry series so great, but it raises the stakes and expands on everything by adding a great deal of things that previous Far Cry games have lacked in comparison. Without changing the essence of what makes Far Cry work, this newest edition creates it’s own identity by really focusing on the setting and culture instead of an underdeveloped protagonist trying to be a lovable hero. The antagonists and supporting characters really get the narrative emphasis but the sheer amount of them all filling up the immense world means that the story this game tells can go on for as long as the player wishes it to.

Compared to the others in this franchise, this game is the longest by far and easily as the most to offer. There aren’t necessarily more missions but the construction of the campaign means that every side mission, every collectible, every rescue, and every kill you get simply by exploring all help lead you to the end of the game. Previous entries offered relics to collect but their only purpose was to help you level up and get money. Here, everything you do offers Resistance points which, when built up, alarms the enemy forces and sends them hunting for you. By far, this is the most rewarding system set up in these games as exploration is still promoted but it actually feels like it all has meaning now, I’m not just climbing radio towers to be able to look at a map and I’m not just talking to people in order to get skill points which felt incredibly refreshing.

Exploration is rewarding because you get what you put in: the more you explore, the more you unlock, the more experience you gain, and the farther along in the story you go. It’s also made much more accessible as you’ll be able to travel by foot or in vehicle to any point on the map. Far Cry 4 was gorgeous but the mountainous landscape made it quite difficult to traverse at times and if it wasn’t for the grappling hook in that game or Far Cry Primal, getting from point A to B would have been a nightmare (see Far Cry 2). In this game, though, you’re still offered a grappling hook if you love walking places but you’re also given the ability to fly. You can spawn helicopters, airplanes, and even fast travel to a destination via air drop (once you unlock the wingsuit and parachute). This is simply the most enjoyable game in this series, for that reason and many, many others.

You know what I’m going to say… Far Cry works best when it balances tones in a fun, action-packed open-world and no game has yet done that better than this one. With the inclusion of hilarious jokes and references (Blood Dragon 3 side mission, Larry’s alien experiments, Clutch Nixon stunt runs, and the ability to dress up as Vaas, an Omega soldier, Pagan Min, or a caveman) but contrasted with the terrifying villains who believe wholeheartedly that their cause is just (and soldiers that follow them out of desire instead of necessity) makes for one hell of a story to experience. While there is absolutely no protagonist development to speak of, I don’t fault the game at all for it because that lack of characterization actually puts the emphasis where it matters which is on the antagonists and supporting characters. I never thought I’d write that because it goes against classical storytelling but I can’t deny that it worked in this game’s favor.

Before I slap a rating on this bad boy, I think it would be fair to discuss the ways in this game didn’t live up to my expectations. I would have liked to see the return of the crossbow from Far Cry 4 instead of the addition of the sling shot but there were enough weapons and variations of them to compensate enough. I also would have liked to see more types of takedowns because since Far Cry 3, I don’t think any new ones have been added. Blood Dragon, Far Cry 4, and Primal just have all piggybacked off of the ingenuity that the 3 offered in that regard, and Far Cry 5 does the same exact thing. It would have been so cool to see more styles of takedown, and although there were new animations for takedowns based on what weapon you were holding (which Primal did), there weren’t any new mechanics added. Like, just add a takedown for if you’re behind an enemy while crouching instead of the crouching/standing takedowns being the same. It would be so easy and that one addition would create so much variation in what I see when I liberate an outpost.

The new gameplay additions seem small on paper (leaning out of cars, planes, AI companions, Prepper Stashes) but are fun to discover and make the game feel new and interesting. Coop is definitely the best part of this game though! Unlike Far Cry 4 this game allows you to play literally everything with a coop partner. Connecting is easy and quick and the fun-factor increases immeasurably once you have teamed up to take on the cult.

About all the political controversy: I think the decision to make this game deliberately unpolitical was a good decision. Tying it into current political events would inseparably connect this game to 2018 and make it feel quite dated in the future. (Apart from the fact that it would feel a bit rich for the developers to take a stance on gun violence after you just mowed down 50 guys with a machine gun)

Now comes the fifth installation, right in the heart of the worlds most powerful nation... how does it do?

Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way, the story. Some love it, some hate it. I think it's pretty good, but you better be ready to throw reality aside. Obviously none of these events could happen in real life, so don't bother trying to explain why a cult managed to take over a county. Along with that, there are a couple points in the game where they should have given the player a choice, and because they force you to do certain things their emotional impact is hindered greatly. If you just go along with a couple outlandish ideas, you'll get a fantastic journey... with the most disappointing ending sack of trash ending since Mass Effect 3. My God, it's atrocious.

So, how then does it earn an 8/10? How in the name of God did it get such a high score if the ending is a mess? Simple, because the journey there was outstanding.

The shooting is extraordinarily well done, especially since most AAA games these days feel like you're firing PEZ dispensers. Ordering a bear to chew off an enemies face while you go and take down everyone else with explosive arrows is surprisingly fun. The flying, though wonky, can also be satisfying. I highly recommend at least conquering a couple outposts by bombing them until Dresden looks like a joke. Furthermore, land vehicles are also hundreds of times better. Long gone are crappy hunks of trash with engines strapped to them, now comes the age of Muscle cars and Semi's with machine guns! Level design has clearly gotten a larger budget. Side missions are actually fun to do now, while in 3 and 4 I completely ignored them. The Main missions, though dialogue is weak, are incredibly fun. I could go on for days praising the game play, but I only have so much time to write these.

One gripe with the AI. Glue sniffers are more intelligent. The amount of times my dog has run in front of a semi is uncountable, as are the times I've been able to sneak past someone while they were looking in my direction in broad daylight. It's pretty bad... but in all, it doesn't ruin the game at all really.

P.S. In summary, Farcry 5 is fun, it is a game that is meant to be picked up and played without too much thought. Is it better then 3? Hell no. Is it better then 4? Good God yes.

It was quite alarming to see dead bodies strewn all over the place and people hung for bridges. This did not add to the game play whatsoever. Neither did a constant and seemingly endless stream of enemies to take down. You clear out an area, yet there were legions of enemies that continue to show up to shoot things up. It made no sense. If you cleared out an area, why aren't the people who now populate these areas taking care of these hordes of enemies. And of course, they only target you.

I had multiple issues with collision detection throughout the game. Empty a full magazine at an enemy while they just stand there and three shot you. This happened many times. Too many.

Some of the side missions were seriously bugged. One were you have to talk to a guy and get into his car for him to drive you to a new location. He wouldn't get in the car. And if enemies or a forest creature show up, in interrupts the whole thing and you have to clear everything out. Even then, you can't talk to the guy anymore to get the mission going again. Another mission where you have to follow a helicopter once the baddie gets into it. The guy wouldn't get in! Then when he did, the Helicopter would disappear off the screen and you fail the mission because it's too far away. Another where you have to kill bears. As I'm killing bears I clip one of the townspeople running away from it, and the town starts shooting at me! Another where you have to use your grappling hook to reach a cache of goodies. Good lord, was that bugged. No matter how many times I tried, the hook would glitch and I would fall to my death. Another mission where I scope out the entire area and there are no enemies at all save two guys trying to drown a civilian. I kill one of the guys and suddenly it's like some underground bunker opens up and 25 enemies show up out of the blue. They were nowhere in site when I reconned the area. No bunker. But they show up out of the clear blue sky.

Gorgeous graphics. Water looks amazing. Too frustrating.

No longer do you have to climb towers to unlock the map. Nor do you have to hunt animals for better equipment. They basically have a map system that encourages exploration, and a level up system that is easy to get perks. The game is also the most open that the Far Cry series has been in a long time. You can for the most part take on any area at anytime. Of course you can't drive up and shoot the main villain in the face, but you also don't have missions that require stealth or certain perks to complete. Now while the open endedness is fine it also comes with a cost. The story is lacking because of it. You don't get as many cinematic set-pieces, the villains also never take you as a threat even after you have basically overthrown the cult. That is all because of it being so open they have to let you be able to do any of it at any time. My personal issue with this game and the story is the fact your character doesn't talk. I mean Ubisoft come on the silent protagonist is a thing of the past. I don't know too many people who believe that they are this lone badass taking on the cult. The reason I harp on this is because character will look right at you and talk, while your character just stares at them. At least they could do is cut out their tongue in the beginning, or something to explain why the silence. The villain is Joseph Seed. He is the cult leader, and unlike the previous installments in the series you see him a lot. Unfortunately he is not very interesting nor is he very charasmatic; which is weird because he is a leader of a cult you think this guy would be hard to argue with.

Overall the game is good and if you are a Far Cry fan you probably already bought it. Those who are on the fence about this game. I would say try out Far Cry 4 (because it is much cheaper) and see if it is something you would enjoy. Until next time I got to go blow up more of Montana.

That being said, and as mentioned in many reviews, the game doesn't get too political, which is a missed opportunity as seen from my view. Graphics are awesome on PS4 pro, water isn't quite as amazing as in AC Origins, and engine/artwork reminded me a bit of Watch Dogs 2. Music in the game is good with some well placed high notes, fx. when approaching an occupied outpost. Gameplay is just good old far cry, I think more could have been done here - but it's still a lot of fun, plus you also really wanna take care of these guys, all of 'em (and that's the setting adding to the experience, definitely a high note for the series!). Discovering the activities in a more organic way as opposed to climbing towers is a good relief, that formula had been overused. This is a game I can only recommend. Expand

That being said, this game is good. An expansive environment and cast of characters give you a ton to do with your time in Hope County. I loved the idea of setting a game in modern-day America which can give you a real moral struggle when you're killing these cult members (who are really just American citizens who have been brainwashed by the Seed crew). If you liked/loved Far Cry 3,4, and/or Primal, you will definitely enjoy this game. However there are still the same drawbacks to those games in this one as well - the main one being repetitiveness. In order to fight a Lieutenant/Leader of a section of the Cult, you have to destabilize the region. Once all the Leaders have been taken care of, you can then move on to the final confrontation with the "Ultimate Leader".

Again, this game is good. Is it good enough to be advertised everywhere and plastered all over anything related to gaming for all of a month? No. Is it good enough to waste 20-40 hours of your life? Yes. Does it make you think critically about life choices? It tries. If you as a player do some critical thinking, it might be more than just a simple game. But in the end to me, that's really all it ended up being.

I didn't rush through it and took my time finishing a region before moving on to the next. Having played a lot of open world games, I was really hesitant about another open world where it's basically a checklist you're working through. I thought it would be really repetitive. I played Ghost Recon Wildlands last year which was fun at first but quickly turned into the same repetitive tasks as well as Assassins creed Origins which I didn't even finish. I pretty much always finish a game (I even ended up getting the platinum trophy for Wildlands!) but AC Origins was too much of the same thing, it got boring. Far Cry 5 has given me some of these moments but I'm still playing. Overall the environment is beautiful, I like the setting, nature, animals, day/night cycle. The missions are varied enough to keep me engaged with the exception of several useless missions which were awful and reminded me of Wildlands/Origins. Missions like 'collect 0/12 items' of this or that are pointless. Just like a mission forcing you to get roadkill kills and you’re driving around for an hour looking for that animal spawn. Complete waste of time, 0 fun, why? Whoever thought that would be a good mission should be fired. Let alone having to do it twice (once for deer and once for bison). Checking off outposts is getting kind of old too.
Other than that, exploring is a lot of fun. Everything looks good so it's nice to walk around and explore the environment, see what's in a house, checkout a good fishing spot etc. What really bothers me is the vehicle camera which can't be switched to 3rd person. It's ridiculous and makes driving a hassle. This in combination with nature being beautiful made it so I just walk somewhere to see my surroundings or get a helicopter (and I’m back to GR Wildlands flying from task to task). 0 incentive to drive vehicles has made me save up to over $75.000 in game dollars and I’ve bought all the weapons I want including several helicopters, planes, boats and cars. So people complaining about not having enough money is nonsense. The weapons are limited because a lot of them have the same stats. Customization is limited. Vehicles are annoying to drive so I don’t even bother buying them, they’re all the same and the in-vehicle camera is annoying. In addition to this you unlock plenty of vehicles in main missions. No incentive to buy vehicles.
Doubted my purchase thinking it would be another ‘chore’ playing it and travelling around the map ticking off boxes. It kind of is but I still found it worth it, largely due to the environment/exploring. I am ready for a new type of game though, probably God of War. I’ll come back to open world down the line.

Having been a big fan of the Far Cry series since it's bigger launch of FC3 back in 2012, it was refreshing to find FC5 was a successful, fun-filled adventure - one which finally overcame it's lame predecessors FC 4 and FC Primal. FC 4 to me was downright awful. Primal being ok, but nothing special.

The story itself I thought was fantastic, the characters were all amazing and the development of them all were superb. The voice acting was on point and all made very realistic characters with very realistic emotions. The map was huge and I LOVED how changing region changed not only the "boss" but the music, the beautiful loading screens, the behaviour of enemies, everything changed and you got a fresh look on a new region - something different. My favourite was probably Henbane River. It didn't get boring cleaning up the map. The soundtrack was beautiful and I actually found myself listening to the cult radio more often than the normal one! The fishing was another fun addition they added this time, not some people's cup of tea but personally, it was a bit of fun and I enjoyed it. I loved how they left the story open for a sequel, knowing they have never done that before - I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes...

I loved some of the new ideas they introduced in 5, the prepper stashes to me were super fun and I enjoyed pretty much all of them. I loved the new system of saving various people around the regions and having them fight by your side - made things much more fun, challenging and generally entertaining. The missions and boss fights for each character were unique and fun to play. Arcade was a great addition (not that I'm a huge online player) but added a good laugh to the game. The outposts gave more detail and almost, mini stories to each one, which made them way less boring and much more interesting.

Scoring an 8 though, this game was not perfect and it still hasn't beaten it's nearly perfect brother, FC3.

I HATED the fact that they completely ditched the radio tower aspect to the game. I know some people didn't like them, but (I may be weird) I loved the radio towers and it was so satisfying de-fogging chunks of the map to liberate etc. I really, really hope they bring them back in future games.

I was shocked they took out the mechanic of skinning various animals to upgrade your equipment. That was another thing I liked about the game and made FC unique. Really disappointed to see that go as equipment or any upgrading in this game only consisted of the perk points.

The character customization was a nice and ambitious prospect, but it just didn't work. The characterization itself was good, but what's the point of having it if you can't see your character? Seemed a bit pointless to me.

Being a trophy hunter, the trophy list disappointed me hugely. Not that a trophy list should give an overall opinion to the game itself, but for me it really brought the game down in general as I really look forward to the trophy lists. Usually there are "complete all outposts", "find .... collectibles" etc, it was replaced with silly, pointless trophies that were just not challenging. Killing a bull with my bare hands... 5 seconds later and bam, I have a trophy. They should have at least kept the all outpost trophy in, as without it, it felt a bit pointless to liberate them all. I thought they could have put a bit more of an effort in with the trophies and implemented the collectibles more, as getting one of each was silly.

Overall, a great solid game with a fantastic story, but the "new, fresh" outlook on FC5 and it's mechanics did well in places, but disappointing to see certain things go.

    Pros:

Looked amazing, beautiful scenery and map
Soundtrack was truly beautiful and catchy
Voice acting was on point, couldn't fault it at all
    Fantastic story and fun campaign
Excellent map with huge amounts to do and exploration
Fun new additions such as the prepper stashes, teammates and Arcade
    Great choice of weaponry
Treating it more of a story-based game, rather than a boring/tedious FPS
The choice to play a female character
A solid difficulty, not too easy or too hard

    Cons:

Getting rid of radio towers and skinning animals to upgrade equipment
    Character customization seemed pointless
    Trophies were silly and boring

I was worried that far cry 5 would be a lazy reskin of far cry 4, but its not. So those saying this is a reskin of previous far cry titles, don't listen to them because they are being extremely disingenuous. This game has many new features that previous far cry games did not have. FC5 both expands upon good features and scraps bad features from previous FC games. The story doesn't make sense in the setting its presented in because this whole scenario would never happen in America. Previous FC games had settings that made sense. FC3 was set in a lone island and FC4 was set in the some remote country. FC5 is set in a county in Montana in the U.S. So right away, the story is off to a bad start, but its a fictional setting in a video game so i guess you can give it points for being cheesy. The weapon variety is not varried at all really. I hope that new community events will lead to more weapons being added like the vector was. If more weapons are added like that, then the game will be better off long term. Overall though, FC5 feels both refreshing and very familiar. Although, in the age of almost every video game being an open world title, i suppose its hard to make your open world game very different and unique. All in all, I've had a lot of fun playing FC5, but i don't see myself or my friend that i played the whole game cooperatively with, going through a second playthrough. I know people will both agree and disagree with my assessment of the game, but thats what metacritic is for. Expand

The main story line has four protagonists for you to deal with and each provide a varied amount of missions for you to get your teeth into. While completing missions you will be intermittently sort out and drugged so you can meet one of the main baddie characters and complete unique missions.

This happens several times with each of the three protagonists who control a specific area and does slightly affect the continuity of the game play and to some people may seem like an annoyance. As you take over various buildings and settlements you will get warning the enemy is looking for you.

There are as always lots of weapons to get to grips with to help deal with the worlds foes and you also get to drive and fly around in a range of vehicles. I particularly liked how the helicopters functioned and you also get to drive around in a special truck which is obtained during a mission.

Overall I thoroughly enjoy playing Far Cry 5 though i do think the final mission is particularly difficult and it took me several tries to complete which may annoy some people also. This for me tarnished the game slightly hence the 9 out of 10.

How can you please not find this horny sect story ingenious? Because that's true in reality too! Then just fine graphics like in Red Dead Redemption 2 and the USA Montana landscape just perfect. Do not know why Red Dead 97 points and here again all the howling as always. You could make the best game and you are not satisfied as with Red Dead

I wasn't excited that much when I first saw the game, like most games these days the graphics were somewhat impressive, gameplay was good, same old with the other Far Cry games, it wasn't a badly made game, but the story just wasn't that interesting to me, I know in Far Cry games you always have that bad guy you have to take down, but the antagonists in this were not that interesting, theyI wasn't excited that much when I first saw the game, like most games these days the graphics were somewhat impressive, gameplay was good, same old with the other Far Cry games, it wasn't a badly made game, but the story just wasn't that interesting to me, I know in Far Cry games you always have that bad guy you have to take down, but the antagonists in this were not that interesting, they were nowhere near on the level of Vaas and Pagin Min, they weren't very unique, just the same old typical cult leaders with a God like complex, seen it in so many games, it was meh, the game over all was meh. Far Cry 5 is one of those games that starts off with a bang, but doesn't really know where to go from there. The cultist theme was what really drew me to this game, but there wasn't nearly enough Joseph Seed and too much of his siblings. The side quests become monotonous and repetitive very quickly, and by the third area of the game I started to just forget them and focused on the story. The map is beautiful and there were lots of side things I really enjoyed doing, like fishing and hunting. The companions you can have are usually really annoying, which is why I only ever had animals following me around. The character customization is a joke and doesn't allow you to customize very much at all. This game was honestly a 7/10 for me until I beat it, then it lost another point. If you're a big Far Cry fan, try it out, but I was fairly disappointed in how awesome this game started and how boring it became by the end. Expand

Far Cry 5 has a beautiful open world with a lot of content and actually meaningful side quests that are worth your time - I was genuinely surprised because I haven't played Ubisoft game since Far Cry 4. It basically works like any other Far Cry game - liberate outposts, kill stuff, upgrade weapons and become the apex predator but it does it well with a better approach than previous titles.Far Cry 5 has a beautiful open world with a lot of content and actually meaningful side quests that are worth your time - I was genuinely surprised because I haven't played Ubisoft game since Far Cry 4. If you are looking for a good storyline, then probably go search somewhere elsem since this game has undoubtedly the worst story I have ever played in the Far Cry series, its boring, predictable and has so much wasted potential + dumb scenes, everything else though, high quality - beautiful graphics, good PC optimization and contentful open world.

This is legendary series, and changing of setting was necessary for new part. I like Hope County, and i really enjoyed this part. It still crazy and exiting like last two parts of the series. And i think it grown up compared last parts.

6/10 - Far Cry 5 is okay, but not more.

Story: The Story in FC5 is very weak. The game is filled with irrelevant sidequests that are simply not fun. I don't even have to start talking about the bosses. They are a bad joke. I expected so much from a Far Cry story and didn't get the slightest bit of what I expected. Multiplayer: I only played the multiplayer once and had no fun at all.

Multiplayer: I only played the multiplayer once and had no fun at all. Don't buy FC5 because of the multiplayer!

Other: Furthermore it has to be said that the AI in FC5 is very stupid. This makes enemy bases very easy to capture. The game contains some bugs that are often funny. But I can well imagine that these will bother many of you. But I have to say that the gunplay is a lot of fun. It feels very good. This is where Far Cry 5 scores!

Conclusion: The game is okay. But I expected a lot more, especially from the story. If you had fun with Far Cry Primal, for example, you will also find your fun here. If you don't enjoy Far Cry in general, don't touch it here. As far as the story is concerned, Far Cry 5 definitely doesn't offer an emotional story. You play the story and will forget that Far Cry 5 exists. There's nothing to remember.

By far my favorite game in the Far Cry series of games. I loved exploring the world and the story had likable characters, although I did like Pagan Min and Vas more overall. If you want an FPS with a big world to explore, lots of stuff to do with interesting characters and missions i highly recommend it.

This fresh take on the Far Cry franchise is clearly visible content-wise, but a tad more discrete on the style. If you're not bothered by the slightly repetitive formula, you'll enjoy the many strengths of this episode.

A mostly excellent sandbox that delights with its gorgeous world, breadth of activities, and stellar shootouts. It can be a bit grindy, mind.[June 2018, p.93]

Far Cry 5 established itself as one of the best in the series, The game features some gorgeous scenery, an engaging story and the overall story is great fun and the theme is very realistic. The game mixes up the missions so it doesn't get repetitive halfway through the game. Far Cry 5 is a great entry to the series for newbies and veterans alike.
