Don't believe the hype! I did my best to like this game after hearing mostly positive reviews, praising the open world, mission structure and the like. I did my best to like this game after hearing mostly positive reviews, praising the open world, mission structure and the like. I thought I would be able to play it my own way... boy, was I fooled. Gone are the days of choosing my loadout and going for the stealth approach. Now the way the perk points/leveling system work you end up having to do things and use weapons you may never have wanted to use; like for me, running into a base with a flamethrower all the while hucking grenades just to earn a few extra perk points. The missions you do don't even contribute to your experience bar, because you don't have one, and therefore just end up feeling like mostly a time waste. Yes, doing many of the missions does propel you through the story by way of resistance points, but that won't make your character better and in turn leaves me less driven to do them; the storyline is one of the weakest in the series, after the opening introduction much steam is lost. The world in itself may be nice, but feels aimless in that you're given very little direction.

If you just want an open world to explore, or find yourself hard up for some Ubisoft Club points, by all means give the game a wirl, it may be for you. I however find this game to be a downgrade in many ways, from the silent protagonist to the directionless mission structure, it is not for me and I feel very misled. At the very least do yourself a favor and wait for a sale.

Visually and sound wise, it is beautiful and runs smoothly on the PS4. But it is repetitive and the endings are all complete bummers. It is Mass Effect 3 redux.

It's not good. I could walk into a base armed with a shovel and kill 20 people just by holding and letting go of the right trigger. WOW. It honestly feels like I'm playing a cutscene. (There's also a perk where you just press a button and your character kills everyone nearby them) STEER CLEAR: if you want gameplay that is fun to master or deeply rewarding.

I bought this mainly because of the multiplayer and custom maps. But the core gameplay ruins much of the fun you could be having, by including instant death animations by someone jumping on your head by a meter higher in elevation, explosions being OP, one-shot headshots leaving lower fire rate weapons already at a disadvantage, etc, etc...

If you are playing with a friend sure you could have fun for maybe at most 6 hours before realizing how deep this game isn't.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Have played for about 15 hours and am going crazy with that psalm singing blaring from every radio and house!!!! You can't turn it off!! I shot one radio in a house and that seemed to work! The radio in the car plays 2 stations: either that holy roller crap or hard punk rock!! Makes it hard to hear what NPC's are saying or that dude that contacts you all the time, Dutch. Very distracting!! At least in Far Cry 3 you had good music in the vehicles and Robbie Ray Rana in Far Cry 4 who was hilarious. And the NPC's said funny things. There's nothing funny about this fanatical cult. Story is kinda boring - I've forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing several times. Game does not explain crafting or plant gathering and there is no crafting of pouches, etc, which was fun in other games. Doesn't really seem like a Far Cry game just an open world shooter. The character you play doesn't even speak!! Therefore, you can't get interested in her/him. At least that knucklehead, Jason, talked and you kinda felt sorry for him. Other thing I can't stand is the cult members appear out of nowhere and you constantly get distracted from the quest you are on to fight them. Seems like every vehicle that drives by is a cult member out to get you. Haven't found any cool caves yet either just a lot of woods and farm animals (did get to see a horny bull!) and some wild animals. Thought I could play the Arcade thing solo but it requires Playstation Plus which I refuse to buy. Not a game that makes you want to keep playing all the time. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a shame that people don't understand the deeper meaning of this game's magnificent storyline. It puts the whole world in another perspective. A perspective that we in the real world should consider could actually be for the better. As it's maybe how it always was supposed to be before we created what earth is today. A place we created, soon a place we destroyed. Joseph was actually trying to do the right thing. The thing no one dares to do or speak loud about. He was trying to save the human race from ourselves. Don't get me wrong, I'm not insane. But life is precious and I'm not sure we have as much time as we think we have left to appreciate this beautiful gift we've been given. Because in the end, we will all die under the same feet of our own race. Just because we didn't have faith in each other. And of the cause, the ending is supposed to hit you this way. It's simply there to make you feel stupid because all the effort you went through with killing endless amount of people who actually just tried to save us from extinction is surely something that goes against ''gods will''. Cause, in the end, Joseph turns out as the good guy when he offers redemption ''in the eyes of god'' from our sins we've made throughout the whole game. This is clearly why there's no good ending. Cause why should there be a good ending when we were the bad guys all along? Expand

To put an end to this review I must say the game plays nice and is what you would expect from a triple A tittle. I think the setting in USA makes it feels fresh and at home with itself. I hope we get the DLCs in time and the Arcade mode keeps growing at a greater pace.

Seriously, I shoot and skin everything and always have around 20k in the games bank. Don't be lazy. Some of these people are writing reviews the first day complaining that they can't buy the gun they want within the first few hours of play. WTF?!?! Most games are like that!! Think of how many hours you have to grind in Call of Stupid to get the top guns!

Second: The story is different, and you do have to forgive some things to be immersed. Like, why is the army not showing up etc. I get that it is a little bit goofy. The writing could have been a bit better as well. However, this is not a story driven game, rather a game where you create the story by your actions and how you play. That is the point of Far Cry in my opinion. An open world where the most memorable moments are from the things that happen because you decided to go left and climb a mountain, then go right and blow some dudes up as your cougar trashes enemies too.

To sum up, I would say that it is a beautiful game, with plenty to do, memorable side missions (very important to me), memorable characters, and a whole lot of sandbox fun! The story is a little off, but that is overshadowed by how many times I hear my girlfriend say "that was crazy!" while I am playing.
Play it for yourself. Rent it. Borrow a copy. Trust me, it is worth it.

Running and gunning is better than ever before, and they tuned all the gameplay mechanics to make one of the tightest FPS I've played in forever. They also dramatically improved vehicle handling, so now I look forward to driving around instead of treating it like a chore.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I pretty much never write reviews, but I'll make an exception for Far Cry 5.

This game had so much potential, but it is squandered by a complete lack of effort from Ubisoft to actually make a solid game.

The main story is so unbelievably dull and unsatisfying that it makes this game feel hollow and a waste of time. After finishing the game, I just wish I had never purchased it in the first place.

It's sad, because the core gameplay is very polished now. The Dunia Engine makes movement and combat extremely fun, the random events are interesting, and the motion capture and animation and lighting is all terrific. The game also runs well, and there are only a few bugs here and there.

But... all of that is overshadowed by how terrible the actual story is, and by how uninspired the game plays out. You don't even really work your way through the main story. Random boring cut-scenes are triggered based on a "reputation meter" for each region of the game. Doing random things, like freeing prisoners, killing bad guys, and doing side missions slowly increases this meter and once it hits a checkpoint you are pulled out of the game into a boring cut-scene for 3-5 minutes. These cut-scenes are usually just close-ups of the main bad guys faces with really boring dialog. You are continually captured and released for these events and it was just very poorly thought out and implemented.

Add to that the fact that there is no choice in this game. Your actions don't change the endings. You just choose one of the two endings and that's it.

The worst part is that you are never given a chance to kill the main bad guy (Joseph). None of the endings allow this. And once you've completed the game, it just puts you back to where the last mission is not completed so you can do it over to play both endings. You can't actually ever "end" the game and play in a world where Joseph has been taken care of.

I really wish Ubisoft would take pride in what they create, but Far Cry 5 once again proves that they will just keep churning out game after game without any care for the content. They just want to milk these game engines for every last penny.

Graphics and gameplay are tight and atmosphere on point. The flaws are the AI, bugs and overall story. Im honestly not bothered by bugs or dumb AI as much as others but i see how it could bother some and tbh i like the story and characters so far. Crazy cult horror movies are some of my fav so this story really interests me. The characters are interesting and they help set a great tone. As for many other titles released by the (in)famous software house, FarCry5 is doomed by bugs at day 1 release. After about 4 hours of play, I got a gamebreaking bug that forced me to restart my gamethrough from scratch (Ubisoft support obviusly can't help, and, as always, it ends up like hitting a gumwall with your head). The bug is related to a mission where you need to recover a vehicle: as I died after getting back that vehicle, but before being able to bring it to final destination, I'm stuck into the mission as the the vehicole is not in existence anymore and I'm not allowed to "Exit Mission", as doing that simply bring me back to last saved checkpoint. And the suggested solution from the support team is to just cloud your saves often. Because yeah, I pay 60bucks to being forced to backup save each half an hour or so. Additionally the game suffers some fps drops even on PS4Pro and the manual save simply don't works.

The game "per se" is still a good FarCry staple, plenty of activities and stuff to do, even if way too chaothic if the randomizer decide to strike hard on you (try to stay at a crossroads for few minutes, and you'll probably won't be able to move around anymore due to the amount of enemy vehicles will ammass in the area, just because they pass by and get involved in gunfight), with some nice new way on how acquiring objectives works. The graphics are very good (as long as you don't fly) and the gameplay is solid (the story is a bit of a meh, even if it does offers interesting bosses, opposed to the basci enemies that are so repetitive it hurts) but none of these good aspects are truly innovative and surely don't balance Ubisoft abitude to release unfinished, unpolished retail products.

The game dynamics, the visuals are one of the best you can see today. Sending your furry friend Boomer taking down the bad dudes is a great fun and the coop-player mode is very much enjoyable. The coop mode succeeds in an area where many other games with coop mode fail, the game dynamics promotes the cooperation.

When it comes to the story, it is awful. The main evil talks religious stuff, then he sings, talks more religious stuff and this goes on and on. After few minutes, you just want this to be over and be able to go and play. After you bought the game, you literally watching 15 minutes of story before able to fire your first shot. 15 minutes that could be squeezed in 2, and no skip button!
Before you can play in coop mode, you need to climb a tall tower, maybe fall few times and die. A good game intro should teach you the game dynamics. I can't believe that the best they can come up with is to show that falling from great heights is bad for your health.

If you are a fan of Far Cry 3 & 4 and weren’t completely burned out from the repetitive gameplay, Far Cry 5 should be right up your alley. Although, the story is lacking in originality, the acting is superb. Joseph Seed, Far Cry 5’s main antagonist had me almost feeling empathetic towards his cause. The upgrade system has been simplified from that of previous games and a reputation points (RP) system has been implemented. RPs are earned by completing menial tasks which allow you to purchase new upgrades, weapons, and skins. The map is not cluttered with the confusing cluster of icons so locating specific objectives or points of interests is a lot easier.
Far Cry 5 is not without its faults. Micro-transactions have made their way into yet another modern video game. Thankfully, these are not required to enjoy the game. They do, however, make themselves blatantly noticed in a few of the menus. There is one major gripe I have about the game’s currency. Silver bars are the game’s secondary form of currency used to purchase clothing, weapons, and ammunition. Although, these items are mostly cosmetic and can be earned by playing the game and with earned in-game money, there is still something that feels wrong about this. Again, this isn’t required and won’t completely ruin your experience but it is something to consider before purchasing.

Since Far Cry 3 I've been a huge fan of the series. With Far Cry 4, you basically got another FC3 in a different setting and even Primal was a nice spin off, but the series was slowly losing focus. With Far Cry 5, the game reboots some different core aspects and adapts it to the current setting.

The game is set in 2017 in a fictional town somewhere in Montana. As always, you have to liberate territories, capture outposts and hunt the big bad guys. There are some key changes in FC5:

    - No more crafting utility belts or pouches. Instead, you have challenges. For every challenge you gain skill points, which can be spent for an additional weapon slot or new moves. The only thing you can craft are temporary boosts. Unlike in Primal, the skilltree is meaningful and thought through.

    - Money is more important than everything else in this game. For completing quests and looting places or bunkers, you gain money which can be spent on weapons, weapon upgrades, clothing, cars, boats, helicopters and even airplanes - most of them are very expensive. A lot of those can be unlocked through missions though, so don't spend all your money on them..

    - Hunting still is a thing, not that much important as in the previous games, but you need to hunt for good money.

    - There are plenty of fishing spots, with different fish to catch, which can be sold for additional cash.

    - You begin with an empty map, so you have to start from scratch. You either uncover it through exploring, or by collecting minimaps which show the location of different animals, collectibles or fishing spots.

    - You have a lot of sidequests you get from people around the world.

    - There are 9 main companions who will help you throughout the game, but you also have an additional slot for random people you can hire. Every one of them is specialized on one specific weapon type and gives you two additional perks.

    - There is no pay to win. Microtransactions, yes, but only cosmetics. You can buy the ingame currency for faster progress, but you won't need it ever.

    - Theres a new mode called "Arcade", where players can play solo or coop on mostly user generated maps. It also comes with a map editor which can be challenging at first, but has a lot to offer for creative minds. Ubi promised constant updates to improve the objects. Arcade is bound to your campaign, so every skill you unlocked, can be used in arcade.

Its a lot of fun exploring hope county with your companions, different vehicles and weapons. Shooting and driving is very smooth. The only thing that bugs me a bit is the stupid and predictable KI. Even your followers tend to illogical decisions, so hopefully ubi will patch that.

Another thing thats really annoying is coop. You have to play with someone from your friendslist. There is no joining random coop sessions.

This fresh take on the Far Cry franchise is clearly visible content-wise, but a tad more discrete on the style. If you're not bothered by the slightly repetitive formula, you'll enjoy the many strengths of this episode.

A mostly excellent sandbox that delights with its gorgeous world, breadth of activities, and stellar shootouts. It can be a bit grindy, mind.[June 2018, p.93]

Far Cry 5 established itself as one of the best in the series, The game features some gorgeous scenery, an engaging story and the overall story is great fun and the theme is very realistic. The game mixes up the missions so it doesn't get repetitive halfway through the game. Far Cry 5 is a great entry to the series for newbies and veterans alike.
