I know I'm just reviewing the game so I'll keep politics out of it Game has an excellent antagonist and an absolutely beautiful open world. I had to step away from 3 and 4 before coming back to beat them because the gameplay became too repetitive but with 5 the story was too good to walk away from. 3, 4 and 5 are all basically the same game with different settings but 5 did a great job at keeping you interested. The arcade is an amazing addition as well and was very cleverly implemented. I was pretty happy with the game and really look forward to the DLC when it arrives. Expand

Starts strong but fizzles. If you've played through the fist 1/3, you've essentially played the whole game. Boring skill tree and character development. Feels unfinished. Its worth a play through but that's about it.

There are three regions, each objective you finish gives you points, when you get all the points needed, you face the boss for each of the three regions, and then a showdown with the main villain. What I loved about the game was that the majority of the story and side missions were fun and diverse, none seem overly similar to each other. Be warned though, the majority of the missions are also kitchen sink missions that you can find in other open world games, just with a far cry twist. I also loved the side activities, bar the outposts. The prepper stash and dixon challenges were amazing and a blast; driving and flying was simple and satisfying. The npcs for hire (that fights beside you) was also a good addition to this franchise imo. The stuff I found just ok was the minimalist story approach this game took, it's in interesting theme but story was almost non-existant. I also was also semi-disappointed hunting was almost non-essential this iteration. The bad of this game was the lack of weapon variety, lack of enemy variety (also copy and paste enemy soldiers), questionable a.i, and in my opinion lets just say there is a part of the game that made me go wtf. To end, a great game that isn't going to blow anyone over, but it has amazing side content, and a game I can recommend to anyone looking for a good open world game, but maybe not for those burn-tout by farcry. Having played Far Cry 5 for a few weeks, I am about to finish the main story. I didn't rush through it and took my time finishing a region before moving on to the next. Having played a lot of open world games, I was really hesitant about another open world where it's basically a checklist you're working through. I thought it would be really repetitive. I didn't rush through it and took my time finishing a region before moving on to the next. Having played a lot of open world games, I was really hesitant about another open world where it's basically a checklist you're working through. I thought it would be really repetitive. I played Ghost Recon Wildlands last year which was fun at first but quickly turned into the same repetitive tasks as well as Assassins creed Origins which I didn't even finish. I pretty much always finish a game (I even ended up getting the platinum trophy for Wildlands!) but AC Origins was too much of the same thing, it got boring. Far Cry 5 has given me some of these moments but I'm still playing. Overall the environment is beautiful, I like the setting, nature, animals, day/night cycle. The missions are varied enough to keep me engaged with the exception of several useless missions which were awful and reminded me of Wildlands/Origins. Missions like 'collect 0/12 items' of this or that are pointless. Just like a mission forcing you to get roadkill kills and you’re driving around for an hour looking for that animal spawn. Complete waste of time, 0 fun, why? Whoever thought that would be a good mission should be fired. Let alone having to do it twice (once for deer and once for bison). Checking off outposts is getting kind of old too.
Other than that, exploring is a lot of fun. Everything looks good so it's nice to walk around and explore the environment, see what's in a house, checkout a good fishing spot etc. What really bothers me is the vehicle camera which can't be switched to 3rd person. It's ridiculous and makes driving a hassle. This in combination with nature being beautiful made it so I just walk somewhere to see my surroundings or get a helicopter (and I’m back to GR Wildlands flying from task to task). 0 incentive to drive vehicles has made me save up to over $75.000 in game dollars and I’ve bought all the weapons I want including several helicopters, planes, boats and cars. So people complaining about not having enough money is nonsense. The weapons are limited because a lot of them have the same stats. Customization is limited. Vehicles are annoying to drive so I don’t even bother buying them, they’re all the same and the in-vehicle camera is annoying. In addition to this you unlock plenty of vehicles in main missions. No incentive to buy vehicles.
Doubted my purchase thinking it would be another ‘chore’ playing it and travelling around the map ticking off boxes. It kind of is but I still found it worth it, largely due to the environment/exploring. I am ready for a new type of game though, probably God of War. I’ll come back to open world down the line.

Wanted to like this game, but just couldn't. There is nothing wow about it, but then again there is nothing terrible. Very run of the mill, and I also can't get my head around the fact it takes a full clip with a SMG to kill a Turkey, but one hit of a baseball bat for the actual enemies. There are far better titles out on the PS4 which would serve better.

Far Cry 5 is a great time. It has lots of over the top action and characters. The story is actually quite good, but can get lost at times in the silliness of some of the side quests and guns for hire. I sunk at least 60 hours into the game, and never once thought it was boring or wasting my time. I had an amazing time playing this and recommend everyone check it out.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Cool graphics, cool setting, cool enemy. "It seems good!" I said. I bought this game and I didn't regret about it, I enjoyed it. But sadly, some things here and there weren't pleasant in my opinion. Sometimes the game is deep and entertaining, other times it is painful and no sense. And it seems to me that the game drives you to get some extra "strenght", we can call it, with real money, so you can complete some situations with more semplicity and less time. And in conclusion, the finals are... so disappointing. It made me think that all my patience, all my efforts and time put in this game were useless, although everything I did. It made me say "After all the hours playing this, that's my result?". Expand

This game is also more difficult than the previous entries in the series which is good. The crafting system has been replaced with a perk list. This is unfortunate because instead of living off the land you earn points to spend in a perk tree. With that said, the world is beautiful and the sound design is even better. The world feels like it's lived in and never feels empty. While I'm on the note, the world can sometimes become to busy. Often times you'll run into a handful of enemies within 20-30 seconds. It become ridiculous and frustrating when you can't catch a break. It becomes unrealistic and takes away from the fun. No spoilers, but I hate the ending of the main story as well. I believe there is different endings but the one I got, and assume most others will get, is very weird and a awful ending. Graphics are awesome on PS4 pro, water isn't quite as amazing as in AC Origins, and engine/artwork reminded me a bit of Watch Dogs 2. Music in the game is good with some well placed high notes, fx. when approaching an occupied outpost. Gameplay is just good old far cry, I think more could have been done here - but it's still a lot of fun, plus you also really wanna take care of these guys, all of 'em (and that's the setting adding to the experience, definitely a high note for the series!). Discovering the activities in a more organic way as opposed to climbing towers is a good relief, that formula had been overused. This is a game I can only recommend. Expand

The autosave system has been out of date since 2009, the very limited character customization is arbitrary at best, and the most entertaining parts of the game are when you're doing anything but the story, which you keep getting dragged into against your will through annoying cut scenes. I audibly groaned when anything story related happened because I was usually doing one of the few truly fun things in the game. And I don't want you to misunderstand, I LOVE a good story in a video game. I will play video games just for the story, and I am incredibly forgiving when games fail to shine in other areas, but the incredibly weak story mixed with the outright lazy game design really does not leave a good impression at all. The game at this stage is still pretty buggy and the level design also leaves a lot to be desired. If you intend to complete the main story, you will have to do the same exact mission four times. And that's not even a bug. If you really feel the need to buy this game, do it on sale, and make sure that you have a friend or two that has it. The most fun that you can have is dicking around the world with a friend. BUT, only one of you will get to save any progress, so pick a friend who doesn't mind slogging through this mediocre game more than once, because that's what they're going to have to do. Last word: Don't be fooled by the cool opening sequence. It got my blood pumping too, but I promise you, that it is the high point of the story. Expand

There is also a bug currently where you maybe stuck playing in night time mode, my suggestion is to find a quest/ liberate an outpost which has an ending cut scene that is in day time. You - your character, is again, boring and uninteresting silent protagonist. For Far Cry it's fine, since I know as a fan, that's OK for other fans too, but they REALLY did not invent anything new here. It's too safe, no crazy missions, no crazy subplot or moments, very uninspiring story that does not show you anything impactful. Side characters are OK, Nick is probably the best as the extra missions with him are quite fun.
Critics are giving too high score. Paid by Ubisoft, I assume.

MECHANICS: It's a solid build up and mix of FC4 and Primal. I really like the mechanics. Game looks great on PS4 but no 60fps is just not acceptable and I will repeat this as many times as needed. We have xbox one x and ps4 pro capable of 4K but we can't do 60 even at 720p? cmon.
Overall mechanics are good, apart from kidnaping part. I am glad to see no more XP bar!
P.S Physics are not great though, even Far Cry 2 had better engine
    .
REPLAYABILITY: very small. They changed the way you do missions and side missions, some of which are long, but most are short. By playing 3-4 h a day, you can finish everything in 7-10 days.
Despite it being open world - there is little to find and explore. Obviously no cities. Only 1 town and very small. No fortresses

ARCADE MODE and MP: amazing potential, but at current state? It's a f-ing joke. MP maps are one of the worst. People recreate Nuketown from Call of Duty and maps from other games and they play nothing but that! You hardly can match up to play other maps, there is no playlist. I really hope they update it to fix all of these. In this current state, it's an unfinished, rushed thing.

TLDR: game is fun, expected better story.

First off, the setting of Montana is very simple and rural, and while they did do a good job with capturing that, I feel as if they picked a simple and rural setting because of how....well....simple it is. Not much design to be done in a setting like this, and at times some areas feel copy and paste as others. The story also is very bland. Feels like a mini Ghost Recon Wildlands in terms of different Bosses for different Regions, in which each region you have to slowly liberate to get to each bosses breaking point so to speak so there is a lot of repetition. Also to add to my last point, I don't think they show enough of the villain characters throughout your playthrough to fully grow to like em or hate em. What also makes this game boring is how clunky the shooting mechanics are and always have been in Far Cry games. It hasn't completely hurt my experience with this game, but, the fact that this games clunky shooting can get a pass but games like Homefront Revolutions' or Sniper Ghost Warrior 3s' similar mechanics don't is head scratching. The A.I., both enemies and companions are laughable and stupid as stupid can get. I shoot enemy from his right side, he calmly turns and shoots then runs away from me, in which i chase him, he turns and stares at me like a frozen idiot and allows me to melee him to death or i throw remote explosive at a car, and the enemies jump out and stand still as if to say "stand your ground, this explosion below our feet won't blow our souls out of our bodies." I get that the A.I. in games can't be perfect at times but this game has so many moments with or against the A.I. that left me shaking my head at how unpolished they feel. Also scavenging and crafting is far too dumb'd down in comparison to previous Far Cry games, and removes a level of satisfaction in going around scavenging. Also it would've been nice to have a deeper set of weapons and/or gadgets to choose from.. this is supposed to be modern day and your character is supposed to be this Superman like Bad mofo.. yet, I find myself getting kills in similar ways. Would've been neat to have remote controlled explosives, shock drones, Poison darts and/or Poison for food and drinks while Stealth or even more melee weapon variety like having Swords, Battles Axes, Spiked Bats, etc.. in which have different animations.. My point is, this game does have an array of ways to kill but doesn't put emphasis on them other than completing simple challenges with specific weapons. As a whole, this game is dumb fun that i will admit I enjoy when i wanna play an open world game that I wanna be a destructive force in and kill time...but it's not a game I rush home from work to play, and a lot of times I find myself sitting at my Playstation debating if i'm in the mood to play it or not. Not saying it's a bad game, just stating how I feel about it and how i feel is that it is a game that hasn't captured me or kept me interested as consistently as I thought it would and it is because how boring and "typical open world gameplay" it is...nothing innovative or different and the setting adds to that bland feel. The game-play loop was pretty fun; the story wasn't very good, but I wasn't expecting it to be; my biggest gripe is the game breaking bug that traps you in an infinite credits loop after the final mission (still managed to hit it after patch 01.04).

After you take them out and start checking out the area, a truck pulls up and they’re instantly alerted from the body’s. As you’re in the new firefight, 4 enemy vehicles driving by are alerted and attack(This places roadways are ridiculously populated for being in the woods.). A bear joins the fray...oh look, more enemies from down the road. A helicopter. A cougar. A fire starts burning everything. You hide from the chopper and wait for the fire to burn out, taking enemy’s out stealthily with the bow and make it back to the building and the initial enemies have respawned. Here we go again. You eventually die.
There’s good things about the game but the over population and respawn rate of enemy’s and dangerous wildlife is ridiculous. It makes the game not fun. It’s absolutely pointless to drive anywhere. “F” this game. Not only am I just done with playing the game after 6 hours, I’m done with the series. I don’t know how people have rated it as high as they have. I played Homefront 2 longer than I could take playing this and that was hot garbage. What a waste of money.

No longer do you have to climb towers to unlock the map. Nor do you have to hunt animals for better equipment. They basically have a map system that encourages exploration, and a level up system that is easy to get perks. The game is also the most open that the Far Cry series has been in a long time. You can for the most part take on any area at anytime. Of course you can't drive up and shoot the main villain in the face, but you also don't have missions that require stealth or certain perks to complete. Now while the open endedness is fine it also comes with a cost. The story is lacking because of it. You don't get as many cinematic set-pieces, the villains also never take you as a threat even after you have basically overthrown the cult. That is all because of it being so open they have to let you be able to do any of it at any time. My personal issue with this game and the story is the fact your character doesn't talk. I mean Ubisoft come on the silent protagonist is a thing of the past. I don't know too many people who believe that they are this lone badass taking on the cult. The reason I harp on this is because character will look right at you and talk, while your character just stares at them. At least they could do is cut out their tongue in the beginning, or something to explain why the silence. The villain is Joseph Seed. He is the cult leader, and unlike the previous installments in the series you see him a lot. Unfortunately he is not very interesting nor is he very charasmatic; which is weird because he is a leader of a cult you think this guy would be hard to argue with.

Overall the game is good and if you are a Far Cry fan you probably already bought it. Those who are on the fence about this game. I would say try out Far Cry 4 (because it is much cheaper) and see if it is something you would enjoy. Until next time I got to go blow up more of Montana.

Ubisoft Games seem to all be sticking to a very strict formula these days. Whether you're playing Assassins Creed Origins, Far Cry 5 and it will probably be the same for The Crew 2 when it arrives, there's always a sense of familiarity about Ubisoft titles, more so today than years past. Leaps forward have been more controlled but there has been a refinement which has delivered vast game worlds packed with content and in the case of Assassins Creed Origins and Far Cry 5, compelling stories.

Far Cry 5 takes us to Montana and we play the part of the rookie deputy, part of a task force sent into the fictional Hope County to arrest the games bad guy Joseph Seed AKA The Father. Joseph Seed is flanked by his faithful companions and Lieutenants whom you must defeat. My personal favourite is faith but the others are likeable foes. John Seed reminds me a bit of Ryan Reynolds . The story starts off tense with the utter madness of the game being mixed in between the story line. I Enjoyed the plot and thought it was written well and well acted by the voice actors there's nothing that really stands out for me though and for that reason I can't see Far Cry 5 being remembered for it's story alone.

Luckily Far Cry 5 has an awful lot of other things going for it. The game world is beautiful and full to the brim of content. Ubisoft have done a great job recreating rural Montana and it's really surprising to see how beautiful the game looks on even the original Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Ubisoft have clearly put in a lot of work with the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X versions of the game with the latter managing to output at native 4k although both versions give stunning crisp visuals. Even the PC version has had a lot of attention with the game looking stunning and running very smoothly.

As with most Ubisoft games Far Cry 5 offers you the chance to focus on story missions but you'll often find yourself getting distracted by one of the many side missions you can encounter along the way. The random encounters with NPCs and wildlife offer perhaps the most humorous moments though. One minute you'll be merrily navigating your way through the game and the next something bizarre and funny will unfold in front of you. The ragdoll system also provides many laughs and not once have I found myself getting frustrated or bored.

There's plenty of customisation for both weapons and your character and whilst there are micro-transactions in the game I've not found myself tempted or manipulated into purchasing anything. There are plenty of vehicles at your disposal and if you want to take a break from the madness of the game there's other activities to do too like swooping down hill sides in your wing-suit or perhaps my favourite in game pass time fishing. If you want to try something a bit more radical then there's always the Far Cry 5 Arcade mode to sink your teeth in too. Players can create their own maps and challenges that can be downloaded and played by others and this game mode will give you plenty of replayability and unadulterd fun.

Movement and gunplay is nice and sharp with decent difficulty scaling. The AI could be improved but their sometime stupid and random actions can often lead to some truly memorable and funny moments. All in all I have to say that Far Cry 5 is the best game I've played this year so far. It's not perfect and there's plenty that could be done better but there's just so much that's been refined and Ubisoft have created a game that is just so much fun to play. I have no idea where the series is going to go after this but with Far Cry 5 Ubisoft have really raised the bar. This is a game that deserves a place in your collection.

Now comes the fifth installation, right in the heart of the worlds most powerful nation... how does it do?

Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way, the story. Some love it, some hate it. I think it's pretty good, but you better be ready to throw reality aside. Obviously none of these events could happen in real life, so don't bother trying to explain why a cult managed to take over a county. Along with that, there are a couple points in the game where they should have given the player a choice, and because they force you to do certain things their emotional impact is hindered greatly. If you just go along with a couple outlandish ideas, you'll get a fantastic journey... with the most disappointing ending sack of trash ending since Mass Effect 3. My God, it's atrocious.

So, how then does it earn an 8/10? How in the name of God did it get such a high score if the ending is a mess? Simple, because the journey there was outstanding.

The shooting is extraordinarily well done, especially since most AAA games these days feel like you're firing PEZ dispensers. Ordering a bear to chew off an enemies face while you go and take down everyone else with explosive arrows is surprisingly fun. The flying, though wonky, can also be satisfying. I highly recommend at least conquering a couple outposts by bombing them until Dresden looks like a joke. Furthermore, land vehicles are also hundreds of times better. Long gone are crappy hunks of trash with engines strapped to them, now comes the age of Muscle cars and Semi's with machine guns! Level design has clearly gotten a larger budget. Side missions are actually fun to do now, while in 3 and 4 I completely ignored them. The Main missions, though dialogue is weak, are incredibly fun. I could go on for days praising the game play, but I only have so much time to write these.

One gripe with the AI. Glue sniffers are more intelligent. The amount of times my dog has run in front of a semi is uncountable, as are the times I've been able to sneak past someone while they were looking in my direction in broad daylight. It's pretty bad... but in all, it doesn't ruin the game at all really.

P.S. In summary, Farcry 5 is fun, it is a game that is meant to be picked up and played without too much thought. Is it better then 3? Hell no. Is it better then 4? Good God yes.

The gameplay retains much of the same from past games, and while it may feel like more of the same, it's still a lot of fun. The perk system in my opinion is a downgrade from the XP system from the past games, and can make the game feel rather grindy. The map is not as big as FC4, but it trims a lot of the useless fat that made that game feel like such a slog at time. There's no hundreds of treasure chests icons flooding the map, and while there is less to collect, I found myself actually grateful for the lack of useless fluff. It's certainly the shortest of the three games I played, having beaten it within about a week and a half(FC4 took me the better part of a month to get through!) The environment is beautiful and certainly feels like an authentic American setting, unlike the fake East Asian Islands in FC3 and the blended mix of India, Tibet, and Thailand that was FC4. The only bad thing I have to say about this game is that its ending is a major downer. I won't spoil anything, but I didn't see it coming and a felt a little bummed after it all. It was quite alarming to see dead bodies strewn all over the place and people hung for bridges. This did not add to the game play whatsoever. Neither did a constant and seemingly endless stream of enemies to take down. You clear out an area, yet there were legions of enemies that continue to show up to shoot things up. It made no sense. If you cleared out an area, why aren't the people who now populate these areas taking care of these hordes of enemies. And of course, they only target you.

I had multiple issues with collision detection throughout the game. Empty a full magazine at an enemy while they just stand there and three shot you. This happened many times. Too many.

Some of the side missions were seriously bugged. One were you have to talk to a guy and get into his car for him to drive you to a new location. He wouldn't get in the car. And if enemies or a forest creature show up, in interrupts the whole thing and you have to clear everything out. Even then, you can't talk to the guy anymore to get the mission going again. Another mission where you have to follow a helicopter once the baddie gets into it. The guy wouldn't get in! Then when he did, the Helicopter would disappear off the screen and you fail the mission because it's too far away. Another where you have to kill bears. As I'm killing bears I clip one of the townspeople running away from it, and the town starts shooting at me! Another where you have to use your grappling hook to reach a cache of goodies. Good lord, was that bugged. No matter how many times I tried, the hook would glitch and I would fall to my death. Another mission where I scope out the entire area and there are no enemies at all save two guys trying to drown a civilian. I kill one of the guys and suddenly it's like some underground bunker opens up and 25 enemies show up out of the blue. They were nowhere in site when I reconned the area. No bunker. But they show up out of the clear blue sky.

Gorgeous graphics. Water looks amazing. Too frustrating.

The Graphics (on PC, no idea about console) look spectacular and the vast open world is fun to explore. The gameplay also feels faster and more precise than in previous games. The new gameplay additions seem small on paper (leaning out of cars, planes, AI companions, Prepper Stashes) but are fun to discover and make the game feel new and interesting. Coop is definitely the best part of this game though! Unlike Far Cry 4 this game allows you to play literally everything with a coop partner. Connecting is easy and quick and the fun-factor increases immeasurably once you have teamed up to take on the cult.

About all the political controversy: I think the decision to make this game deliberately unpolitical was a good decision. Tying it into current political events would inseparably connect this game to 2018 and make it feel quite dated in the future. Farcry 5 is very good, the story is full of twists and dramas, side missions are mostly very good too. The couple of points I took against the game are, the medium level of difficulty is way too easy in the first few hours of the campaign and the inclusion of microtrsanctions apart from that brilliant game. The best stuff I think is the new airplanes and helicopters that player can control, I want those for a while and Ubisoft finally put them in. Although the game is pretty and fluent, but it is still the same formula with the similar animations and system. I really hope that they innovate more in Farcry 6. The arcade mode is fun and amazing, but I still hope you can play with random players. Still think is a great game and worth the money Expand

Without a doubt the best Far Cry game in the series, Far Cry 5 is a roaring return to form both in terms of gameplay, game world design and to a certain extent storytelling. It's plot does become some what of a detriment to the game by the end but the rest of the time you'll be having so much fun that you'll find the plot holes and faults very easy to forgive.

Far Cry is a series that has always gotten the storytelling side of things half right and that is a half more than most every FPS out there. Far Cry games probably have the best plots of any FPS I've played but they seemingly always lose steam by their endings or make a few poor decisions on the way that mar the rest of the story. It's been this way forever. Vaas in FC3 was one of the most engaging and well acted villains in gaming...but then they don't make him the main villain and you spend the 2nd half of the game chasing some lack luster bad guys who is thrown at you suddenly. FC4 tried it's hardest to capture that Vaas magic with Pagan Min but it fell flat. FC5 finally gets that dynamic of "awesome villain" right again and not only that, it does it 4 times. Joseph Seed and his 3 "heralds" are each unique and riveting to do battle with. Their voice acting is superb and their backstories and character are all on point. You run from area to area taking them down and each one is a story unto itself and each one keeps you engaged. Where FC5 falls down is that it talks a lot, each of the villains gets ample opportunity for booming voiced monologues full of bombast and emotion and each VA does a brilliant job with all these moments. But once the games finished you really come to realize that for all they said, they didn't really say anything if importance. FC5 lacks an overall narrative. They very vaguely attack the idea that the modern world has become weak, slothful and impure but thats about it. It says a lot but it doesn't seem to know its own point. By the games end you're no more sure of what exactly it was they were rebelling against than you were at the beginning. The ending, which I won't spoil, is from WAY out of left field and whilst I can understand why it'd rub people wrong, I at least respected they went somewhere I didn't see coming. A final thing with the plot is they try and force emotional attachment to some "good guys" that simply isn't there. In each region you have to save a member of the team you came in with and the game is acting as though this is of vital importance to your character but the thing is as a player, I just didn't care. I didn't care because I'd spent maybe 5 minutes with them at the start of the game before it all goes south and had no attachment whatsoever. I had more attachment to some of the Guns For Hire you use as AI buddies than the 4 characters you're meant to be attached to and "saving" . But to focus on that is harsh, the vast majority of the plot is exciting, well written and as good of an attempt as they've had since FC3. I would venture to say this is their best plot yet.

What FC has never struggled with however is fun and FC5 is undoubtedly an absolute ton of fun to play. You transition seemlessly from tackling outposts, taking on story missions, going on wild prepper stash searches and just generally exploring and taking in the world. The world is vast and absolutely beautiful. The scale of it is staggering and there is plenty to see and do. The new approach of having to organically discover everything (locations, quests, hunting) is a very smart decision. You might take an outpost and talk to an NPC there who uncovers a quest or something for you to do next. Much more engaging than radio towers and it really helped the world feel more complete.

The AI of enemies is quite poor and it has never been strong in FC to begin with. You'll not struggle too much taking any of them down and their detection ability is awful. With the addition of front takedowns you can literally sprint up to enemies and if you're quick enough, insta-kill them with a takedown. You don't really play FC to be challenged though, the idea is to feel like an unstoppable killing machine. Friendly AI is all over the place varying from "killing stuff before you even saw it" to "standing in front of a mounted gun as you fire it". But they are good enough for me to nearly constantly have 2 with me so there is that.

Sound Design is brilliant, besides aforementioned voice acting there is a wealth of licensed music in the game used to great effect as they often have done in this series. The use of hymns in cult areas really adds to the atmosphere of the area as well.

Overall I just had a great time with FC5. It isn't without its flaws, most of them relating to the lack of a strong narrative for it's strong villains to pursue but I certainly am not disappointed with the game whatsoever. I had a great time (about 25 hours) finishing it and will go back for more. Really this is everything you could want in a FC game.

I have reduced my score to an eight because the NPCs are quite useless, so much so that I prefer to not even use them. I told Nick to bomb something and he just misses over and over, then gets blown up himself. The fall damage is kind of crazy and you can die straight up from falling a very short distance that I could most likely survive in real life.

I do think it deserves some criticism, but they put in a lot of effort with this game. It's really not just a copy-paste from far cry 4. Those who say it is, havent played the other ones. My main critisisms are the AI is still wonky at times, but i forgive them because it's not easy to implement in such a huge open world. And the overabundance of enemies can get a little annoying at times. Highly recommend this game if you're even slightly interested in this franchise. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Lmao, this game is so bad in so many ways but I’m going to focus on the joke of an arcade mode. First off, they have a stupid picking system where only the most brain dead people in earth can write a review and they let 5 people pick; and yet while I wait in lobbies for several god awful matches I still can never pick and only the retards who pick the worst maps can. Even the ‘featured’ maps which aren’t made by Ubisoft themselves are pretty horrible and the gameplay is SOOO bad. After going through and getting into a lobby with a bunch of idiots who spam the remote explosives (like Bo2’s C4’s except Bo2 multiplayer was actually fun, than you’ll find there’s no load out customization and that you spawn with a stupid secondary rather than a primary weapon. The melee weapons are so unbalanced and there’s a Ubisoft published map that has stupid modifiers in a MULTIPLAYET game; its not a fun mode like mike Myers or something; there’s INFINITE AMMO, along with a bunch of other **** So everybody just picks the remote explosives and you don’t get any negatives for dying so people can just suicide bomb and they only get a positive. The matches last for WAYYY to long and there’s no action or fun moments; 10minutes and 100killd to win for a sluggish boring mode, with no balancing, customization, and the absolutely retarded takedown system where on the FFA wizard fetaured map you just get killed by the hacker who can takedown 5 people and sustain 12 melee hits while he 1 shots you. Not only did they make the new takedown system completely unfun and frustrating but WHY in the multiplayer. There’s no balancing, a cesspool of **** unbalanced, 1 minute to make maps that these idiots actually vote for and they just use the most unfun **** long loading ones, obnoxious player base, and horrible gameplay, they didn’t change anything from the campaign and therefore there’s no balancing and it’s all just thrown in with no thought. This game doesn’t deserve any praise and the campaign got repetitive and the ‘bunker’/bliss **** got so obnoxious and unfun. The only good thing at the beginning was some somewhat fun side missions and the ending. The arcade mode was tacked on and if you buy this game in the hopes of getting extra playtime you will be THIROUGHLY dissapointed. Game of The Year my ass Expand

The game is just stuffed full of constant nothingness. You're attacked by AI almost constantly. Seems like Ubisoft was trying to make the game extra exciting but instead they made it painful to play, you walk/drive/swim anywhere and are guaranteed you will be attacked. You can't drive down a road without a passing car spotting you after 10 seconds and then hunting you down. You can't walk through a field without a random AI trying to gun you down. You can't even bloody go fishing without a skunk/snake biting at your balls.
The game itself is just a mess. So unpolished. The characters are incredibly dull and boring. AI are moronic for a 2018 game. The story is lackluster. Voice acting is poor. Controls are poor. They've done nothing to better the game from the previous. The ranking system is trash. Ubisoft putting in in-game purchases pretty much says it all.

I used to love Far Cry games, but after this one, I'm never buying another. Never felt this way about a game before, absolute trash. Positive the game review sites have just been paid off to give this thing 80%. Please avoid for your own sanity.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall the game is good with the variety of side missions and things to do in the game. The fictional Montana county of Hope is broken up into 3 areas each controlled by the Main bosses lieutenants. In each area the goal is to get to 3 levels of resistance so you can face off with the lieutenant and free that area. The problem is when you get to each level of resistance they send out capture parties to take you captive. And that is when the problems for this game begin. You get captured no matter what you do. Sure you can defeat the capture parties that come continuously and non stop but then you will get hit out of nowhere with a "Bliss bullet". You can be up in an aircraft or helicopter or in the middle of an outpost that is full of your specialists and half a dozen other non player characters. It doesn't matter you will get captured. If you are doing the math that's 3 levels of resistance times 3 areas and that equals getting CAPTURED 9 TIMES! That's right you will be captured and forced to do story missions at least 9 times throughout the campaign. It totally breaks any immersion that you may have and frustrates you to no end. All the people around you basically stand by and watch you get captured it is so unrealistic. I have stopped playing the game because of it. If you like being forced to do missions whether you want to or not then you will love this game, otherwise go play something else until UBISOFT decides to stop being lazy and actually think of other ways to move the story along. I can't believe this got through play testing and made it into the actual game. I have talked alot about this but it's only because it is that jarring and lazy. I could understand getting captured a few times even though it is a way overused trope but 9 TIMES? That is unacceptable. I will gladly change my review if they ever decide to remove the feature and come up with another non lazy way to move the story forward. Expand

I'll start positive, it's beautiful. Mechanics are great, I always use the bow in these games, so that’s always fun.

I wish I had a PC to see it at max quality, but never the less it's gorgeous. I LOVE running around (I rarely drive in the far cry games) getting lost, finding random scenes and moments in the woods, it's amazing. Big fan of games that involve a lot of exploring and collecting so I’m very happy with this game for that. Also has an added awesome bonus that I’m running around with a bear and cougar by my side, feeling like a f**king warg.

It is also funny, as expected, I do end up skipping a lot of dialogue as people tend to go on a bit, but the character’s responses to you rushing them, always provides a little giggle.

There are also all the little moments, or hidden areas you run into along the way. A favourite scene was the haunted house, especially with the creepy dude looking at you and then walking away, I’m hoping more comes out of that little bit. And of course, I’m looking forward to getting into the Bigfoot mystery.

However, I find myself getting so frustrated with this game. Just some bits that feel like a missed opportunity, almost, lazy. I'm reluctant to use that word as I can understand the work that goes into a game.

But for instance, when you meet the specialist Jess Black - she goes into gruesome detail about the guy you're hunting "The Cook" a sadistic cannibal, who starves people and feeds human meat to them etc etc etc, so I’m thinking "Oh cool, a mini boss", I’m picturing a tall, probably fat dude, with a dirty apron, covered in blood, with a huge knife or something.... NOPE, just a run of the mill s**t bad guy with a flamethrower who looks just like all the other crap AI, such a huge let down.

With the main villains, well, I like the idea of who they are and get the type of characters they're supposed to be, (the performances are awesome) - but I just don't care about them. Get bored of the dialogue, find myself skipping a lot of it, ‘cuz it just goes on and on and on. I thought this game would be a bit crazier and more interesting, but it just seems to fall short of what it could have been, but hey-ho, the BLAM BLAM BLAM side of it is great so there's that.

What bothered me the most though was the constant repetitive, inescapable - get drugged, get caught, escape, s**t narrative. It’s the most annoying and stupid thing. All it did was break me away from my enjoyment of the game, it's frustrating. I wouldn't mind if it happened out of nowhere once or twice, as a little surprise, but 9 times?! And to only go and do the same s**t 3 times for each boss? Again, it just felt a bit all to familiar, somewhat lazy and unnecessary. It's like some studio head was like "This is what people loved from 3! Let's just multiply that s**t!!"

This is my first ever review online for anything media based, but I just had to for this game as I really want to love it all the way to 10, but I just can't. There's not a lot about it that made me care. That being said, I brought it, I'm yet to finish it, and apparently, I have a disappointing ending ahead of me. However, I do have a WHOLE bunch of collecting to do, so I’m happy about that. They also give you the option to reset all of the out posts, so think I’ll do that too, make it a little more exciting.

I’ll most likely check out the DLC’s, but not before watching the trailers and seeing what some of the reviews are saying.

There is co-op but it's invite-only. The map editor is back, a feature that has been absent since Far Cry 2 a decade ago, but it feels like everything in Arcade Mode including that was tacked on at the very last moment. Overall the gameplay is starting to feel outdated, and also further plagued by glitches, a couple of them even quest-breaking.

It's obviously not the best in the series, but I don't think it's the worst either considering the game's lasting appeal.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Has decent graphics, not good, for this generation. Most of my play sessions had at least one bug that killed a quest or was just generally annoying.

The sound design is great, though.

There is almost no variation in guns, and most of them are the same, so there is no point.

Characters are pretty fun, except the 'villains'. They're just annoying, talking way too much when my character is the most passive waste of a main character when they're not shooting stuff.

Most of the gameplay is fun (in the absence of bugs), but one particular boss fight forces you through very bad airplane controls to fight another plane and it's just frustrating. And there is no satisfaction of killing them because the game is too enamored with them to allow the main character to overcome them. You kill one of these **** and the game turns it on you as if you're the bad person. Because torture, drugging and brainwashing is now acceptable, apparently. This is all because of the sewage that is called 'story' with this game.

The real problem is with the story, then. Turns out that the evil **** kidnaping people, drugging them, stealing, destroying property, abusing animals, torturing people, was right all along, and the only way to get a half good ending is to not play the game, giving up before the end of the prologue. And that is assuming that it's not all just in vain because of an asspull of a plot twist of nuclear weapons being detonated. In Montana. The obvious implication being that Joseph was right, actually had prophesized the future, was protected by God, and... I don't know. Nothing makes any sense in that ending to the point there are people theorizing it's a hallucination because of the drugs the guy dumps on the ground before the final fight. Makes more sense than the actual story...

It's said that there are signs of it all over, like the radio, that I never listened to because every time I was on a car, there were murderous cultists crawling up my ass, trying to kill me or one of Joseph's lieutenants spewing their **** all over again, as if you're supposed to feel bad for playing the game. And that is when the NPCs weren't bugging and repeating their lines over and over.

What a piece of **** So, I guess this is games now. A story that punishes you for playing the game. How about people punish Ubisoft for terrible writing by not playing their games? People complained of Mass Effect 3, but in that game, you didn't lose, even though you had won. People complained of Mass Effect: Andromeda, but at least, the whole gameplay isn't pointless because the villain wasn't right all along. People complained about ET, way back in the Atari 2600, but at least the story wasn't a pointless waste of time!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, I am not interested in politics beliefs being forced on me while playing a game, so I am relieved this game did not dive deep into the current American political landscape. Most negative reviews focus on that, I think it is silly to expect such a thing from any game, but especially something like Far Cry. That said the story is a bit empty, I think it would be more engaging if the central character, "the deputy", spoke. Silent protagonists are weird and I can never relate to them.
Story aside Hope County, Montana is an interesting place from afar. With all the delay and hype I was a bit surprised at how similar Far Cry 5's new engine resembles the build from Far Cry 4 and primal. The environment is pretty and colorful but lacks depth, you do not feel like you can really engage with anything. Think GTA V, almost 5 years old now, where you feel compelled to study the little details in a room or on a landscape and actually feel like they can be interacted with. Not to mention most things you shoot do not react. There is a somewhat plastic like feel to Far Cry 5 that is hard to ignore, like you could easily punch through the surface. This is the same issue as it's predecessors and something I expected would change. How a game like Far Cry 5 in 2018 has not better incorporated destructible environments and detail rich landscapes is beyond me. And be prepared, because just like the last two games there are only about 2 or 3 villain models, so you often find you are shooting and blowing up the same guys over and over. Revamping these types of details, richer more immersive environments and a speaking protagonist would go a long way to make Far Cry 5 a better and more memorable game. Wasn't that the whole point of waiting 2-3 years?
The weapons: I feel like the last two games respectively had an increasing arsenal that never left you wanting more. It was a nice surprise after completing a long campaign mission in Far Cry 4 to be rewarded with new weapons to buy that had previously not been visible in the store. It left something to work for, and a surprise to be excited about as you progressed. Here, perhaps because of the inclusion of more vehicles, the weapons selection is hugely trimmed down. I kept waiting for more to appear but now at the end of the game I realize that is not going to happen. I was very disappointed not to see more contemporary weapons and just a small variety of classics. For example the sub machine gun category basically has two guns, an old WW2 era machine gun with low damage that oddly becomes available later in the game, and three varieties of the MP5 all with basically the same stats. With sniper rifles and assault rifles it is the same situation: 2-3 choices. This is the 5th iteration and the games central appeal is gun play yet Ubisoft removes 75% of the guns from the game leaving a bare bones selection that you tire of quickly. This results in the guns that require further progression to unlock and buy are the same guns you already have, just with a different paint job or shorter stock, pretty lame. The mod system is exactly the same as the last two games as well, I was hoping for a grenade launcher attachment or laser sights, something to set this game apart.
These complaints aside Far Cry 5 has its moments. A truck would come out of nowhere and crash me off the road, forcing me to think fast and fight for my life. Or I would have to jump into a tractor and mow down zombie-like drugged cultists. Often times the game would take you somewhere when you least expected it, and mostly it was fun. Far Cry 5 shines in these little moments. Also some of the less significant characters are quite entertaining. The Peggy's philosophy could be better developed and more intriguing to add a level of complexity that is missing. It can also be frustrating to have just taken over an outpost and still be looting the place, to suddenly become drugged and whisked off to one of Faith's weird hallucinations in the Bliss. It is times like these where the action in Far Cry 5 is actually at odds with the story. I don't care about your stupid nonsensical beliefs, I was in the middle of hunting a bear! In the new progression system you increase your resistance level by completing missions, helping the rebels and capturing outposts, but reaching a certain level causes you to suddenly be forced to take part in a boss battle after barely surviving the capturing of an outpost when you have few supplies remaining. Bad timing, let me prepare for the fight with the tools you have made available instead of forcing me into one. Overall I was disappointed after all the waiting and hype, but it is still a Far Cry game at its core and most fans will have a good time returning to this universe, though it may leave a few things to be desired. Lets hope the upcoming DLC will help and hopefully add more weapons, I did buy the season pass after all! 7.5/10

    1. You get kidnapped/drugged 9 times.
    2. You can't drive the slowest cars I've ever seen in a game 50 feet without an animal or friendly running out into the road, or getting shot at.
    3. The airplanes/helicopters troll you more than the dragons did in Skyrim.
    4. Most of the weapons are just reskins. There's maybe 10 guns in the game.

SMGs had like 3 variants of the MP5, for example. Driving controls are better this time around but flying controls are just… ugh. I’d rather have Ghost Recon Wildlands’ helicopter controls over FC5’s. Also, I must say I did NOT like how the game would force you into story missions each time you'd reach a new resistance level, especially since doing so could make you miss main story missions if something untoward happened to a quest NPC during the forced story event.

    - Soundtrack was fantastic. I really appreciated the hand crafted hymnals which were created specifically for Eden's Gate and the ambient Americana music while exploring fit very well.

    - John Seed’s story arc was probably the best of the three because it fit the crazy cult story line the closest. Faith Seed and Jacob Seed were essentially the same mindscrew, except one used drugs and the other used psychological conditioning. Neither were really interesting, IMO. I would have preferred they stuck with the crazy cult concept for Jacob and left Faith as the only character with metaphysical elements.

    - Fishing was on point and I spent too much time fishing. Hunting, conversely, was just a boring exercise. If I didn't HAVE to do it, I didn't bother. It was easy enough to earn money from side missions and fishing to the point where hunting wasn't really necessary.

    - Graphically, much like Guerrila Games did with Horizon a year ago, Ubisoft really nailed the Rocky Mountain west. The terrain, rivers, flora and fauna - all very well done and makes Hope County Montana a very believable and interesting location.

    - Far Cry Arcade has potential but right now there’s limited curation meaning most of the maps you get are pretty weak. Hopefully it gets better as more assets are added and people get more time behind the map creator.

    - And finally, the ending(s) were absolutely awful. I realize "Far Cry Ending is Bad" has practically become a meme at this point but these endings doubled down on that and went almost Mass Effect 3 levels of bad. I can't really go into detail here without spoilers but the endings were so disappointing that they soured my entire view of the game and makes me not want to play it again. I'm knocking a full point off the score for this fact alone.

All in all, decent. But part of me wishes I had just rented it instead.

Far Cry has never been my favorite series, but always good enough for a couple dozen hours of play. So not expecting a game of the year, but still disappointed Ubi dropped the ball on some big things

    Pros:
    Beautiful looking game
Most sound effects and the addition of an echo

    Cons:
Feels like the least amount of destructible-environment I have seen since FC2
You can't shoot TVs or even turn radios off
The music matched the them, but just the Pause menu music got so annoying, I switched Music to Off
    Glitchy game right now 3/31/18
I hear and see a vehicle of enemies pulling up towards me, and will randomly disappear entirely
I have gotten stuck several times acending a wall with the grappling hook
The amount of times NPCs have you locked into a conversation when you are getting a radio call from someone, or bad guys are shooting you, or the most recent for me; getting bit by a rattlesnake. I suppose it makes it more realistic, but meh
Stores in-game seem to all want to connect to Ubisoft online or something, because they take forever to load up and sometimes get stuck
The loading times suck in this game. Yeah, it's huge and graphical, but so was Wildlands, and I feel strong those loading times were slightly less
Crafting is almost completely gone. You can craft a few explosive devices, and that's it I believe. And you pick those up all the time anyway. This makes looting and hunting almost obsolete, as money comes by better with just side and main missions.
Gun variety seems to have taken a step back from FC4. I suspect Ubi is gonna try and push micro transactions heavily on guns and vehicles.
Blow up cars or helicopters just kind of hang around as a blackened version of itself, never splitting into pieces or blowing up entirely
The game wasn't hard, but I decided to drop the difficulty level from Hard to Normal just because of how frequently bad guys pop-up EVERYWHERE. Can't get a 30 sec reprieve without them lining up.
This makes stealth play pretty useless, with how easy it is to get caupght. I had a silenced sniper that works sometimes, but try to shoot a lone sniper on a tall barn roof? Everyone around goes on alert. Needs tweaking.

    Par:
Story - Bad guys are okay with decent voice acting. Better than Wildlands, and they can't keep trying to replicate Vaas, so that's fine
Driving is done a good bit on dirt roads, so can be a bit of a pain to make quick escapes and turns, but adds to the realism
They abandoned giving your character a voice, like Ubi finally realized their usual main characters are so darn cookie-cutter, that they couldn't figure anything out better than silence
Create a character is something I always love, but this round is so useless as a pure FPS, and the options seem even more cash grabby than WIldlands

In the end, I found myself wishing some of the game was more like Dying Light, as this game is a par Far Cry game, but took some shuffles back on some of the most important aspects of what makes a game a Far Cry game for me.
