On PS4 the game is way too frantic, even on the easy setting.

If you enjoy games with a moderate pace, then this is not for you. Previous Doom games allowed to select your pace - from frantic to moderate. However, Doom Eternal gives you only one option - frantic. It locks you in a room after room with 20 monsters with no way out, and it forces you into a chaotic action. I loved Doom

I loved Doom series, but this game on PS4 just does not do it for me.
It became way too boring even before finishing the first level.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. My favourite fps game since bioshock 1. Gameplay is fluid, all the guns are balanced and worthwhile, the increased verticality allows for some crazy movement and attacking. I loved Doom 2016 as well but the variety of movement and feel of weapons here makes the early half of Doom 2016 feel slow and tame. I will say that this game will be very divisive--you will either love or hate the platforming but I feel like the controls are excellent and the platforming is a destressing break between the incredibly intense action. Some people dislike the more frequent use of the chainsaw and limited ammo capacity but it allows for more varied weapon usage and encourages switching, differentiating the game from its 2016 predecessor, where you could easily spam the super shotgun, run in circles to collect ammo and cheese the game near the end. This game makes that damn near impossible by introducing a variety of enemy types, all of which have different weaknesses and strengths and so need different weapons to be dealt with efficiently. However, id do not force you into one specific playstyle as enemies are not annoying bullet sponges and most weapons are effective on them. The level design is absolutely fantastic, especially Nekravol and Super Gore Nest. The soundtrack is amazing as always (praise Mick Gordon) and the actual art style and architecture of the levels is also fantastic. The slayer Gates pose a challenge without being unfair and are great fun. The marauder demands a different and more cautious approach and while I love it, some may find it frustrating. The only problem I have with the campaign is the goddamn radiation/ swimming levels because they are tedious and irritating and not even puzzles - they simply are there to annoy you. Overall though the campaign is a solid 10/10.
The multiplayer feels a bit tacked on and unbalanced at the moment, but it is a decent addition to a **** fantastic campaign. Besides, who buys a Doom game for the multiplayer anyway. I would have liked a classic arena shooter but the campaign is so good that it mandates a but. If you liked Metroid Prime and Doom 2016, this is a must buy

I was hoping it would be a continuation of Doom 2016 and it left me disappointed. I hate overcomplicated games there is a button for everything and the low ammo doesn't help. I really regret buying it.

Although I haven't played 2016 to the full yet but, compared to DOOM.. Eternal is on whole other level. Don't let negative reviews spoil the fun. Its balanced out with exploration, platforming and awesome, mindless murder! Don't hesitate to buy, rip and tear!

The campaign is amazing no doubt, way better level designs and new features, challenges, demons and skills to use. But I missed the PVP mode and snapmap from 2016 Doom. Not really into the multiplayer in this one. Though Singer Player is the main part of Doom so I didn't tak away too much point.

Probably the best FPS game i have played in a looong time. I had high hopes, but it exceded them all. Was a little unsure about some things at first, but then got full into it. About to finish my second playthrough and still a blast! The one bad thing about it, is i cant go back to DOOM 2016 now, i tried and it feels slow and meh compared to eternal. Highly recomanded

You’ll notice that as you progress and get more powerful weapons and upgrades, you somehow become easier to kill. The combat is so focused on forcing you to desperately need ammo, health and armor that the focus on Demon slaying takes a back seat and you just run around the map, plinking away at the bigger demons while searching for small ones to glory kill for health, chainsaw for ammo or burn for more armor. It gets to the point of just being stupid. I’m at the Taras Nabad level and it’s become so irritating that I’ve lost any desire to keep playing. This garbage mechanic carries over to multiplayer as well making it a cakewalk to win as a demon. I played 4 games. One as the slayer and the rest as demons. 4 games is a total of 12 rounds. In 12 rounds I only saw the slayer kill 1 demon and that slayer was me. Unfortunately you have to kill both to win a round.
I’m done writing about this massive disappointment. I REALLY regret buying this.

Doom took everything good from Doom (2016) and turned it up to 11.
This game somehow is, even more, faster than the previous one I don't know how that is even possible.
Doom Eternal takes place 8 months after the previous one. Doomguy "Slayer" and VEGA (AI who you did save in 2016 at the end) has now Doom fortress from Sentinels which is hovering over the Earth which is currently f*cked.

Doomguy "Slayer" and VEGA (AI who you did save in 2016 at the end) has now Doom fortress from Sentinels which is hovering over the Earth which is currently f*cked. Slayer takes the emergency call from the earth and starts to go after Hell Priests that control the invasion. Because of hell energies power, Demons technology is going fast forward and the worlds own defenses didn't have a chance.

Doom is more "colorful" taking some examples from older games and turned them into a modern-day. I played with regular ps4 on Ultra-Violence difficulty which is Hard mode.
The compact is much more difficult. If you don't react fast your health will drop in a blink of an eye! Fighting is like a psychopath running on crack and can be overwhelming sometimes. While fighting, you need to learn your surroundings right away, think about how to deal with situations if you get overwhelmed and which enemy you should take out first and how. This is easily the BEST thing in Doom Eternal. Doom is a strategic shooter now. Killing demons while Mick plays his guitar on the background with the choir of doom! Oh god, the soundtrack is so good and the audio design! Hearing those demon sounds really helps you to have some knowledge about what kind of enemies you are facing or did that one son of b*tch die to your grenade around the corner.

There is lots of lore in this game and without giving any spoilers they answered a couple of big questions too but without reading those collectible logs, there could be couple points in the game that you don't understand what is happening.

There are platforming sections in this game but honestly not too much IMO. It is good phasing during the ripping and tearing. I think constant fighting could start to feel numb without any change of phasing.

This game is 100% fan service in a good way and that made me smile. I love it when the game acknowledges that it is a game. So if you are thinking that "that could not be possible" or "that's dumb" I have to ask you, why do you even play games if you can't see such an obvious thing that IT IS A GAME.

Could my ps4 handle this chaos? surprisingly good! I noticed a couple of frame drops when there was so much stuff on my screen that I would be amazed if the game wouldn't lose any frames.
I'm really happy how well optimized this port is!

I'm acknowledging some cripes other people pointed out because 0 and 4 out of 10 to this game seem to be angry **** at its best.

"The game has too many cutscenes and I don't understand what is happening."
Doom 2016 got a criticism about not having any story so they fixed that and you can still skip them if you want. But there are reviews here with questions like "why someone is that?" and "why everything is like this?" answer to those questions is in the logs and collectibles.
    "Doomguy has changed"
No, he hasn't. It was established that Slayer has a moral code.

    Any negatives personally?
-A couple of frame drops here and there.
-One huge bug (Needs to be fixed! if there are people who want to play this on the hardest difficulty)
-marketing, those couple trailers spoiled some good surprises, unfortunately.
-Couple balance issues in levels. Small demons kept spawning in and I honestly got frustrated because they didn't give me any time to look around to understand where I needed to go.
    - minor gripe but only 3 power up slots, I ended up only using 3 that suited my play style and I didn't bother to change them. In a full picture, those power-ups aren't that good overall IMO.
    -some buttons presses didn't register.
-Grab command window is nitpicky sometimes.

If there are any reasons why I wouldn't recommend this game to someone is that if you aren't a fan of "adrenaline shooters" this game isn't for you. Simple as that.

If Doom Eternal had come in 2019 it would be my game of the year. A couple of strong titles are coming up this year but this is easily one of the best! Rip and Tear!

(I know shameless lol) I am also a huge metal fan and this game just speaks to me. DOOM 2016 was already a buttery smooth masterpiece of death and carnage...but DOOM ETERNAL. I mean I can't tell you how many times I exclaimed "Holy Sh%t!!" to myself as I found myself in awe at what I was experiencing. It is hands down the most intense, satisfying and CHALLENGING FPS experience. You are going 100 mph the whole time and the later fights of multiple waves of different enemy combinations will have you sweating as you rip and tear through the huge number of demons thrown at you. One complaint I had about 2016 was that the arenas were over too quickly but holy hell did they fix that! I made a promise to myself I would take my time on Nightmare for my first play-through to challenge myself and force myself to adapt and it absolutely did. The game play is more focused on the resource management and even though some players found it tedious, I honestly started the habit of flame belching and chainsawing every fodder, every time it was charged, so I was always stocked up for all weapons I barely felt the ammo shortage later in the game. They want you to pay attention and get the flow of combat. Unfortunately a lot of people walked through doom 2016 with a ton of ammo and just the super shotgun, while the best way to play it was to deal massive damage by switching weapons rapidly and using all your tools and Eternal really drives this point home.

OH and the marauder! Everyone is complaining about how difficult he is to face? YEAH, THAT'S THE POINT. He's the test of your skills! It feels like a brutal show down every time one of those guys spawns in, some fights with Marauders can last several minutes! I am really not trying to brag but the first encounter I beat him on the first try on Nightmare! I just stayed calm and dashed around him like mad just waiting for his green flash and subsequent axe attack! Plus use the fodder that spawn in! Run from him and go burn and chainsaw a few dudes, then face him with a full armory and health! I really love and hate the enemy, for how difficult he is because I definitely died a ton on the later encounters with him, but man people need to calm down and appreciate why he's there. Put the time in and GIT GUD. They want you you try and try again, learn the enemies, the marauder is no different! So please ID don't nerf him! I love it how it is!

Lastly I should mention some smaller things that are just great , the art style and environments are a huge step up from 2016, the places you fight in and platform through are just dripping with atmosphere, each mission has a distinct feel and vibe and makes each part of the game very memorable! Plus the abundance of secrets and various point pick ups for your suit are scattered everywhere in cool places that take some thinking and awareness. Plus they show you just enough to figure it out for yourself too, so it's not so bad.

Finally the freaking god tier music!!! Mick Gordon needs his own shrine or something after this, his soundtrack complements the various environments perfectly so much so that you associate the music with the location! The tracks that blast while you are in combat get you pumped and drive the pace of combat, you will feel like a complete bad ass. I love the little detail how when you die the music will lose it's bass and then slowly return to full volume and chunkiness as you load back into the fight! It's just gaming bliss when you are blasting through demons dashing around the room swinging from poles, glory killing and chainsawing, all the while this heavy metal song is pounding along while you do your thing. Ugh, I cannot stress how good this is. It's a freaking spiritual experience!

All in all, you are seriously missing out if you don't play this game. This is a next gen milestone, and will be remembered for decades to come. RIP AND TEAR UNTIL IT IS DONE!

Rip and tear, как говорится.

It's more for hard core first person shooters I guess than the once-in-a-while casual player or the "revisit Doom" player. This just doesn't float my boat for $64. I certainly won't be streaming through SONY anymore. Hardcore CD or bust. So I learned something for the money. For 8k, too, it could have had better vista's. Gameplay features is the crux of the issue, while expanding on gameplay from last game, it is clear that certain elements are not executed well. Climbing and mobility play a larger role in this game but the novelty wears off quickly as you realize how difficult platforming is when dashing is unpredictable, climbs sometimes do not work and platform set up is confusing. Arenas are larger and bring much more variety, however Doom is suppose to make you fell fast and juggling killing demons and traversing lava pools, acid and not falling off the map is annoying. Difficulty, the game has spiked in difficulty demons hit hard, but at the same time it becomes an overwhelming amount of demons and found myself dying a lot despite this now being my first fps nor first doom title. Boss battles that were once too easy are now progressing to too difficult with the final 2 bosses, I had to equip sentinel armour, reducing incoming damage and gives you full hp and armour,in order to complete them. Story, the original was simple and honestly enjoyable: demons have awoken because corporations got too greedy and got hell energy, stop demons. This game story while also simple relies too heavily on the lore of the world that was lightly established in the first title. While I will admit, I understand it, I can see how some may become lost. Overall, while being a fun and exhilarating experience I much prefer Doom 2016 than this new release. However, I will happily enjoy more Doom in the future. Expand

It's still Doom, but is more campy than the previous game.

In a weird way, it's more like classic Doom in this regard.

However, so far, for every step forward, it takes a step back, but the steps back are smaller.

For starters, it's far more colorful and saturated. The environments are extremely detailed and interesting. There are some very cool visuals.

There are also a lot more invisible walls. In an area that looked like a destroyed shopping center, I couldn't jump behind a counter because of an invisible wall. I also fell a few times looking for secrets by trying to jump to a ledge where it looked like I could land, only to hit an invisible wall and fall.

Falling into pits doesn't kill you instantly anymore. You just spawn back on the ground minus some health.

The soundtrack isn't as good this time so far. It's not bad though. It's industrial metal again, but I'm finding it less interesting. It just doesn't have the same kick to it as the last game and seems more subdued.

It's also a lot more cartoonish than Doom 2016. Enemies look less "real". They seem to have a little of that "rubbery" effect animation has sometimes.

The environments are really nice, but also seem less grounded somehow.

The enemies animate really well, the kills are inventive so far, and it's definitely entertaining.

Ammo, armor, health, and powerups pickups are also a lot more cartoonish. They glow neon colors, more so than in Doom 2016. They are larger and look a bit out of place to be honest. They are easy to see though, which isn't a bad thing.

There are also secrets, but rather than being objects placed in the world like the little Funpop Doom guys from Doom 2016, they are large question marks.

The first keycard I found was just floating in the air in an empty room. The same goes for weapons when you find them. In Doom 2016 you found them on bodies and they were naturally placed in the environment. They seem to care less about that this time.

There's also a 1-up powerup that kicks in when you die. It resurrects you and slows down time for a brief period. It's a large green Doom Guy helmet that says 1-up.

Gameplay is fast, and you're dropped right into things. I have no idea what is going on aside from "Hell on Earth". It does not pick up where Doom 2016 left off, unless there's some backtracking in the story later.

I'm thinking there may be some explanation for it, but I'm not sure if it's going to be in codex entries or be a plot point in the actual game. The story so far is dumb and convoluted. There's more than there needs to be by a lot.

Honestly, the most irritating thing about the game is the story. Half the fun of Doom 2016 was that Doom Guy couldn't give less of a **** about anything but killing demons and wrecking anything related to Hell.

He didn't care who caused it, he was just there to clean up the mess and break enough to ensure it didn't happen again.

It seems like they're trying to turn it into some grand sci-fi space opera with deep lore with interdimensional politics, and that goes against what Doom really is. A story like the one they seem to be trying to tell just gets in the way.

The game seems harder than Doom 2016.

You have a lot less ammo, need to be more accurate, and can't just glory kill unarmed zombies anymore. They aren't just walking health and armor packs anymore. They take a lot more damage and need to be shot first.

You need to be accurate with your shots, at least in the first area. I'm thinking the game will allow you to upgrade your ammo at some point, but you start out with only 16 shotgun shells. They seem to want you to use the chainsaw a lot more, but there are a lot of ammo pickups as well.

I've encountered fairly large groups of enemies in the first area, a lot more than in Doom 2016's early areas, but not as many as in some of the later areas.

You'll encounter some fairly bullet spongey enemies early on as well.

Traversal seems to be a bigger focus this time, with bars that swing you around, and I've encountered a fair number of jump pads. Stuff seems less naturally placed though. It's still a blast to play, but may not be what people are expecting it to be. A lot of people are going to hate this game, but I've enjoyed it so far. I'm unsure if I'll come out of it thinking it is as good as Doom 2016 though. I'll definitely be finishing it at least. It's fun and new Doom. Though, again, it seems to be more of a throwback to classic Doom in some ways, and not always in ways that improve on Doom 2016.

I'm a Doom fan, though not a fanboy to the point I'll suck the game off and ignore it's flaws. It's not a flawless game but it's a pretty damn good one, the best in the series for that matter. It deviates a lot from the Doom 2016, adding a lot more mobility and weapons. Essentially the Doom Slayer is given several new abilities each of them a more than welcome addition. Though I feel like the most welcome addition is the increased usage of the chainsaw. Ammo is something that is a bit more seldom than the previous games. Before you could simply sweep an entire level with the same weapon and call it a day but now you have to switch around and think fast in the middle of battle on which weapons you should use. I never really came across a point in time where I had no ammo, if you're lacking in ammo you simply chainsaw some fodder. You also have some increased mobility so you can be on the move a lot more. Since that's what made the previous games so good it's a welcome addition. Though I feel the biggest hinderance this game has is the platforming. Now in between firefights you'e usually given a platforming section. It's not horrendous but it's a bit out of place to say the least. It does take a lot away from the atmosphere and vibe of the game. But I feel like what makes this game best is the spectacle. Before you were tied to the same planet and space station now you're traveling between dimensions to these massive hellscapes littered with titans and mechs. The game also tries to build up some lore to the Doom world but it's entirely optional while it is sometimes shoved in your face. Overall if you enjoy Doom or FPS' in the slightest you'll love this game. Expand

But the only negative thing in my opnion is the ammo. It just is pretty boring chainsawing demons every 30 seconds. But otherwise DOOM Eternal is in my honest opinion a masterpiece if DOOM 2016 was good, this is f*cking amazing.

After 20+ hours and the final battle I felt literally exhausted. The gameplay pace is insane especially on the higher difficulties. Demons slaying is super satisfying. New strategic layer demanding using different weapons against different monsters/weak points is an improvement imo.
While Doom 2016 looks and feels more serious/realistic, this one is a pure entertainment!

Loved it's art direction, color palette, arcade-ish approach to pick-ups and UI. If you want some true si-fi horror go (re)play Dead Space, where you are constantly haunted... In Doom Eternal they are haunted, because a Doom Slayer entered the facility!
Loved both Doom 2016 & Eternal but find the latter more fun and addicting.
Why 8/10? For two reasons: forced platforming/jumping often annoys, and the game is too short for the money (paid 99 eur for deluxe). More end game activities and/or progression would be appreciated. I know it sounds like a heresy to orthodox gamers, but RPG elements & loot would fit perfectly such game as Doom Eternal. That would truly make it eternal!

You can also call it "Awesome mode" and **** mode" similarly.

The campaign is a linear adventure with huge maps and knock down drag out combat interspersed with some exploration and secret farming. Combat is fantastic, and to the credit of id, they allow skins to be used in campaign mode, allowing my demonic slayer..or zombie slayer...or classic slayer go through the main plot looking like a badass.

The story is intriguing for any doom fan, and a huge amount of fun. The combat is more systematic with some new 'rules' of fighting that are about one step further complex from doom 2016, namely that loot from glory kills is separated into glory kills (health), chainsaw (ammo), flame throwner (armor)... aside from that it's a normal blood bath. If you can't grasp this change in system, I suggest seeking professional help.

Enemies are interesting and classic with a few new entries, though I hate the Marauder with a passion... The glory kills are great and graphic and the weapons are all fun within context. some are useless depending on the enemy you are fighting but usually they have a modification that can make them work in a pinch.

The levels are all wonderful works of gruesome art, that only ascend in horror and beauty to the very end. They lack the "samey" feel of doom 2016, which is a great bonus.

The final boss is a lot of fun to fight.

On to the ****ty Bethesda mode. Multiplayer is terrible. Obviously someone stupid came up with the idea of "two+ verses one" because no one wants to play as the slayer (you are massively outnumbered and outgunned). Generally its' "everyone try to be the demon and not lose"

It's about as satisfying as eating sandpaper. It's why this game doesn't get a 10/10.

The tutorials are all in the first 90 min of the game - they throw a lot at you and get them out of the way early. The cinematic are rarely more than 1 min long and there’s not that many of them.

Keep playing the game and you’ll quickly find yourself in the same action bliss that doom 2016 provided. The best escape I’ve found yet from the crazy times afoot! Amazing game, I have minor complaints with UI and sounds, but they pale in comparison with how much fun I’m having!

Arguably the best FPS of the decade. Doom Eternal is unashamedly about fast, furious and fun gameplay as a video game, with a lot of new depth to some old school themes. The pumping electro-metal riffs, richly detaiied apocalyptic decors and scenery, give it a rich and unique personality. It deserves a 10 not because it is perfect, but because it is undoubtedly the best FPS today.

Before I start the actual review, let me debunk some false info from overly negative reviews, because people are clearly not aware about the depth that this game has to offer.
I also literally made an account purely for this reason.

    -Ammo issues?
People keep claiming that they constantly have ammo issues.
While it LOOKS like it initially, when you actually play the game, you will notice that in Eternal, the Chainsaw refills automatically in a short amount of time.
This allows you to constantly use the chainsaw to refill ammo. Once you get in the rythm, the chainsaw becomes a great tool with actual purpose, that you use during battle to keep yourself stocked on ammo.
This also eliminates slow pacing when looking around the map for more ammo. Making the game FASTER PACED. They solved an issue that was present even in the classic Doom games.

With that out of the way,
I can easily say that this is one of the best games to have come out in a super long time. Like literally the last 10 or so years.
And I dare to say that this is the best first person shooter ever made at this point.

This game simply makes 2016 look like a concept demo.
It takes everything that was already amazing about 2016, and perfects it with more faithful enemy models, better music, better level design with a lot more things to find, and more fun and thoughtful gameplay.

    Level design:
Huge and super oldschool. A lot less linear than 2016, which is GREAT. more sections are revisited, but you never feel that you're going the wrong way, because the player is being led in the right direction with ease.
Enemies are placed more around the level, and not every encounter feels like a room full of spawning enemies.
Although there are still big arena fights, there is now a way better ratio of traditional enemy placements and encounters placed in the map.
Furthermore the amount of exploration that the player is allowed is even better than before. And it rewards you with a ton of goodies to find in the maps. Even optional extra fights, like fun and challenging "slayer gates" that take you to a seperate challenge arena. Rewarding you with one of the best weapons in the game if you finish all 6 of them.

    Gameplay loop:
A lot of people will probably complain about the difficulty.
Eternal is a harder game than 2016, and requires the player to put more thought into his actions.
This is exactly what made classic Doom so great, the amount of thought you have to put in fighting.
Target prioritization as always, but now you are also managing your resources.
    Chainsaw for ammo
    Glory kill for health
    Burn for armor
These tactics become essential on harder difficulties, and keeps the player on a constant thinking process on how to deal with the next enemy.
Combine this with the target prioritizing, quick reflexes, double jumps, new dashing maneuvers, a hotkey for shooting a frag or freeze grenade, and the "meat hook" chain on the super shotgun, and you have a lot more maneuverability and tools at your disposal to deal with these new tough enemy encounters.

    Weapons:
Doom Eternal features a good collection of weapons that you would expect in a Doom game.
Along with the upgrade system that 2016 had.
Most upgrades are similar to the ones in 2016, some are even better and massively improved.
They all feel great, and there is plenty of reason to use every single one of them for different situations.

    Enemies:
As mentioned before, the enemy designs are very faithful to the classics.
A lot of them even have added weakpoints that you can shoot at to disable a certain gun. Like the Revenant rocket launchers or the Mancubus flame cannons.
Some enemies also have a certain weakness to certain weapons, but it isn't too crucial to use that to your advantage.
There are more enemies than ever, they made some annoying ones more fun to fight, like the shield enemies. But have also added some other challenging ones that can give the player some real trouble in combat. Lots of variety to rip & tear.
As for the bosses, I will not spoil what they are, but I can safely say that they give the player a real challenge, make the player strategize on dodging attack patterns and striking the boss at specific moments when they are vulnerable.

    Other:
Graphics are great, but not too important. But the game looks gorgeous over all, just like 2016 did.
A bit brighter and a lot less red everywhere. Lots of cool things to see in the distance.

Everything sounds great, from enemies, to guns, to the hillarious headshot pops that sound like a bottle being opened. Music is even better than in 2016. For me, 2016 had good music, but could feel a bit repetetive at times. I feel like there is a lot more variety in themes here, making the songs more recognizable and fitting in the areas that you hear them. This game is the perfect sequel that will go down in history, and sets a new standard for FPS. If this game bores you, turn up the difficulty.

    a few from 2016 are:
-what happened to doom guy where did he get warped to?
-what happened to Hayden when he walked away with your sword at the end.

    and MORE added in eternal:
-HOW THE HELL did u get a fortress
-how did u get off mars
-how and why is VEGA working in your suit n helping you?
-how did the demonds get to earth
-how and why is hayden split in two what happened!?!?!
-where are all the people and ristance fighters?
-how the hell did the deamonds build a huge ♥♥♥ fortess in artica in a matter im hrs!?!?!

I dont know what bathesda is doing over there but there past few games have been nothing but train wrecks...and for me this is the LAST nail in the coffin for me and there games...its obvious there lack of story telling the past few games fallout 76 and now this they dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about people who play there games for story....only the mindless shooter fortnite/cod/ playerbase.

game itself is not worth the price it is now...to me its a $20 game. no more no less...the gunplay is bland n boring click shoot, press e, chainsaw repeat...and when you get your sword that ADDS one more button press...v! The people complaining about ammo....i never had a issue chainsaw n bang! full ammo. Now dont get me started on the platforming...WHAT A STUPID addition! Most of the time i was raging just because i had to do this stupid ♥♥♥♥....

We all know Bathesda will be themselves and say "oh we had a overwhelming response to ppl loving this game!" just like they did with fallout 76...and to why i didnt write a review is because i dont own the game on steam. but i can tell u this now that i finished it i got a refund on it because it is not worth my money.

The game starts off really poorly, which is weird because soon after the bad start it becomes just as good as Doom 2016 and even surpasses that game in certain areas. After you die a few times trying to get the rooms rhythm down, and clear it using all the room resources, it re-spawns a number of those new enemies and some farm-able basics.

So you end up in the same room on repeat trying to get the timing just right until you get to a new checkpoint and repeat the same process. You spend more time at the loading screen then playing at each section.

A draw back at the face pace they want to apply and opponents weak spots is you have to constantly move to get swarmed, which increases the likelihood you miss.

So honestly the game is just you getting to a new area, dying until you get the area figured out then repeating the process, and this is on the normal level.

Trying to merge precision and a biz feel make the game play choppy and ruins the pacing. Zone 1, Checkpoint 1 I died probably six times because I couldn't get two seconds to breath to hit the 'weak point' of the enemy without it dropping heavy artillery on me and almost instantly killing me in one volley.

I am currently trying to get a refund.

    Doom Eternal N O T a Doom game? What?

The OG Doom and Doom 2 hell on earth are DIFFICULT classic FPS that primarily focus on fast - snappy skill - and exploration of the map (whilst killing hordes of Demons in tight arena-based combat rooms)

Doom eternal takes T H A T general gameplay element (adds more heavy metal cartoonish aesthetic) and ramps it up to create a more fluid (probably more accessible honestly) direction. They use the OLD models (for the most part) of the enemies....like...its more DOOM then DOOM 3 and DOOM 2016 (Doom 3 is a piece of **** bad...the gameplay is clunky, it's not spooky scary - - it's frustrating and cheap)

I do believe that maybe the way Ammo and Health pickups work is potentially a bit irritating (also ammo size for the guns probably NEEDS to be upped in a patch, also potentially add more chances to find ammo and health kits around the mappps) But the general idea behind it is kinda cool. YOU as the Doom Slayer need to maintain and work on your direction of fire and take advantage of your arsenal throughout the environmental **** even use the terrain to your advantage...

It's still RIP AND TEAR...But now its more RIP AND TEAR strategically.

I like DOOM 2016 but it feels a lot easier and less challenging compared to how they balanced all the new mechanics within Eternal. Also the Narrative this time round is more compelling from a DOOM nerd-lore perspective. It is more arcady then all the other doom games too...but I'm kinda okay with it... all the doom games have really silly (Legit DOOM 2 is about the doom guy getting revenge for the death of his rabbit) situation based carnage.

The game makes YOU the player need to seriously BRING it to these Demons. After about 3 or 4 hours I've finally gotten the hang of the environment and the terrian. Im finding it MUCH more satisfying killing these demon ****

Platforming is also a SERIOUS LEGIT issue the game has...this cannot reaaallly be fixed....It just kinda...idk...takes away from the KILL IT carnage....that would be my ABSOLUTE biggest grip.

Overall. I kinda love this game. It's fun. It's absolutely intense and violent.
Guns do need a bit of a buff tho. Although, I reckon this is something that can (and most likely well) be fixed by the id Software lads.

There is obviously a ton of action going on in this game constantly, from start to finish. But action isn't the same as visceral impact on the player resulting from that constant activity....

Doom 2016 had the same issue for me.....Even as you jump around snapping necks or cutting demon's in half it just doesn't feel like that's really what you're doing. The entire experience is just too simplified.

Bioshock is the best example I can think of of a shooter which achieved that kind of visceral impact I was hoping a Doom reboot would deliver. When you fired a gun in Bioshock, it felt real. There was massive kickback. You could see the shrapnel bouncing off of the environment. The sound from firing a gun was shocking to the senses. The target absorbed the impact like a real person (at least more than other games).

That is what a Doom remake should've been too. That kind of brutality is what Doom is supposed to be all about. I'm very disappointed that it has not turned out that way. I hoped they would fix this massive problem from the 2016 reboot in this version, but unfortunately they clearly didn't. It is a fatal error.

And the platforming is just obnoxious, not fun. Nobody asked for a Doom platformer.

Despite its positives, Doom Eternal does have its negatives. The 1st complaint (and it's slight) is that certain demons eh huh... the Marauder... make the game so hard that at times you will want to rage. But don't worry after many, many deaths you'll finally get the hang of it. Hopefully you haven't smashed your controller by that point however. The second complaint, and by far the most annoying, is how jumping and most puzzles work. You miss click one button and your character falls and the puzzles at times are so abstract and confusing that the only way I can solve them is by looking on youtube. We seem to be riding this trend of making these games hard as possible for esport players = good in the past 4 years. Why make it so hard? put more difficulties for those no life esport lovers but make it the same as doom 2016 difficulty for the normal difficulty. It was perfect the way it was (Why change what is not broken). Making games to hard for ppl makes ppl not buy the next one because it limits ppl that have jobs and don't have time to put into these games. I won't be buying the next game and I'm about done buying games all together if this trend don't end. Dif not buying new systems either. If you esport tryhards wants a game they need to make their own ******* games and systems. Games are not careers for the majority of gamers. If you want games that is for ppl with careers than make your own ******* systems to play on. Sorry for the rant I'm just so tired of games being made for these no lifes. Casual gamers can't even get a single player game anymore because it's got to be so balanced and difficult for these COD, Fortnight, and League of legend multiplayer fanboys to have fun playing a dif game for once. One last thing I want to mention is jumping. Why is there so much jumping in this game like it's a platformer. This is Doom I want to shoot and run and that's it. If I wanted to play mario or halo I would buy those games. This is why games as a whole has lost so much from it's fanbase and most ppl has stopped playing games. I'd prefer to just get in the lift (ok, so everything is broken so are the lifts) to get to the next rather than learn to do acrobatics or fail and fall to my death I mean lose 20 health err. what? Sure put it in as ways to hide specials/upgrades but not in the get between the current part and the next part of the game.

After playing for a while you realise that you have to get the thing to glow orange and press the right key at the right distance at the right time so you can get the appropriate kind of 'confetti' when the monster dies so you don't run out of ammo/armour/health. I get what they were going for, but it seems more annoying than fun although there's still skill required to do so successfully.

It looks pretty, but some of the tradeoffs are you spend a while trying to work out whether you're meant to be able to jump/climb the thing or not. Some of the collision detection with the environment just seems awkward sometimes. That looks like a ledge I should be able to stand on but you fall off. Haven't played it enough and gave up on it, but got the feeling collision detection was a bit off at times as well.

I haven't played something in the Doom series itself for a quite a while but it seems overly concentrating on the over the top gore/animations because they invested so much in it forced them to change the gameplay to focus on that and therefore made it less fun to play overall.

Multiplayer seemed a bit narrow - no basic deathmatch mode, just a 2v1 specialised mode? It looked interesting but with a high initial investment. Can't comment on it yet. But no apparent way to leap in the action and have fun immediately in multiplayer. Err. What?

Maybe the younger generations are happy with it, it turned out not to be what i was hoping for.
