TheAfter playing Doom 2016, I was more than hyped for this game and needless to say it did not disappoint. Although I was initially apprehensive towards the new limited ammo I quickly got used to it and boy did it feel good switching between weapons absolutely destroying demons. The game is fun and challenging and always fair even on the nightmare difficulty, which is the highest one. The game runs at a smooth 60 fps with very little stutters or frame drops. The weapon mechanics have a lot of depth, the weak point system brings a significant change to the way you deal with demons compared to 2016. The enemy variation is great and the demons look even more doomy than last year, and the cosmetic damage to them looks fantastic and really shines light on what the idtech engine can accomplish even on console hardware. You sometimes get a short break in the action in the form of some parkour, and variety is always welcome. The story is not particularly strong but the gameplay more than makes up for it. The slayer gates make you sweat and despite dying over and over again, I never got tired of them, and the feeling I get after completing one of them is great. I also want to add that the Fortress of Doom is a very neat addition to the game, and it features a computer on which you can play the original Doom as well as Doom 2. The maps are very well made and filled to the brim with secrets which are very fun to look for and find. My only qualm with this game is the marauder. Although not particularly difficult he brings the gameplay to a halt and the distance at which you have to stand to be able to counter him is nebulous.
To conclude this review I want to say I had a blast Ripping and Tearing through this game and that Doom eternal deserves a spot as the greatest first person shooter game of all time.

This game is hard and frustrating, because you constantly run out of ammo. There are also some annoying jump and run elements, which don't belong in a FPS. Overall this game sucks.

Overall, pretty fun! Engaging graphics. The controls and gameplay are simple yet nuanced. Soundtrack is fitting.

My biggest complaint at the moment (while I'm still slogging my way through the campaign with occasional frustration) is that there are very clearly platforms I should be able to land on to reach hidden areas that the developers just block off with invisible walls. Like... I get you intended for me to go a different way, but you could've just planned your levels so that it doesn't have so many misleading jumps; I shouldn't be pretty sure I figured something out, only for an invisible wall to reject me into a pit... more than once in a level, I might add. I could stand on a moving platform that I would assume sends me to a secret when I cause it to change direction... Instead I get reloaded on the ground floor. I could try jumping towards some very clear horizontal swing jumps... It counts me as out-of-bounds mid-jump and damages me. For a game that's part platformer, I don't think that aspect really holds up on it's own.

As someone highly invested in level design, it seems kind of lazy to keep blocking off areas I should otherwise be able to reach if the platforms were just rendered to match their physical appearance. There is such a thing as a natural flow to a level, and the developers seem to rely way too heavily on just putting up walls and boundaries in places to keep forcing level designs to work. The Doom game from 2016 had impressive maps where I really had to think out my route in order to come across secrets; Applying that level of care to this game often makes me feel like I'm overthinking and wasting time. It kind of feels like they're just putting me in a playground with a coat of hellish paint over it. I mean, it works to an extent; It's just not the most immersive Doom game I've played.

While the level design isn't awful as a whole, it can be a bit disappointing that a lot of the most visually pleasing aspects of levels are areas you probably won't ever reach or interact with, whereas the maps consist of a lot of deathmatch-type areas connected by platforming that comes off as somewhat rigid due to the detection of the environment. Overall, this contrast of gameplay dynamics seems a bit less fluent than in the last game, with the closed off rooms getting repetitive kind of early.

Overall, Doom (2016) was slightly better. This is still worth getting if you played that game and want another, though. Not particularly disappointing, but not really groundbreaking, either. Kind of just more of the same, but at least they didn't mess up a working formula.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Worst than Doom 3 in my opinion, and Doom 3 is not even a proper Doom game, but I had way more fun playing it than this non-doom game.

Let's get the one good thing out of the way quickly: The graphics are stunning. Way better than Doom 2016, and the framerate is so smooth that I have to wonder how the hell did they pull this off. Hats off to whoever made the graphics and the game engine.

The music, is good also but none of the tracks has yet stuck to me. I couldn't get the music of Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 2016 out of my mind, I can't even recall the music from this one. Not bad but not very memorable for me either.

Level design makes ZERO sense: Two titans, which I don't even know what they are at this point, are frozen in place right before one killed the other. I have to find a battery to put into the spear of one of the titans so that the energy lance will active and tear the sternum of the other titan open (mind you both of them are just standing still, like buildings). Then once all the guts spill out, I will jump into the hole in the titan's chest, to go through the titan, exiting through his back (or maybe his butt, I'm not sure), to fall into a platforming section that looks like Goomba's castle from Mario, with spinning chains of fire, enemies all over the place, while you wadle though a swamp with completely hidden tentacles that jump out and hit you while you are trying to shoot at other enemies, cause aparrently players like getting hit by hidden tentacles when they are trying to do something else. Does any of this make any sense to you? Cause it makes no sense to me. This is graphics driven game design: we want two titans in an epic pose, we want Goomba's castle, and we want tentacles, now make a level that has all of these.

The fighting is simply annoying. I have to think: which weapon do I need to use to kill this enemy, where exactly should I hit the enemy (cause weakspots are fun in a doom game), when should I hit them in the weakspot perhaps they need to have their mouth slightly open or it doesn't work and you need to wait, do I have enough ammo to do that or will I run out of ammo at the worst possible moment (there is a serious lack of ammunition compared to every other doom game to force you to use all the weapons), oh and also check if you have armor, cause if you don't you should remember to set the enemy on fire before shooting them so that they drop armor shards for you. Oh and don't over-shoot enemies cause you'll easily lose the glory kill if you shoot them with two more bullets of the assault rifle (compare that with how lax Doom 2016 was when you overshoot a "blue" enemy). Also don't forget that you should not be very excited with the melee cause it sucks now. It's causing pretty much zero damage now unless you have done some glory kills when you get one strong punch that annihilates multiple enemies around you. So don't try to melee any low level creeps unless you are going for a glory kill, otherwise you'll lose that strong punch for no reason.

Gone is the "I'll wreck everything" style of Doom 2016. Not only because of how puzzley fights have become, or how much platforming it now has, but from the second level already, the "doomslayer" bends the knee to someone. What the.... the guy that did not care about a single thing in 2016, now decides to show respect to someone who is telling him off at the same time for caring about humanity. OMG what's next? Discovering that the doomslayer has a character and feelings? Am I still playing Doom here?

I'm not that far in the game but the lore has also gone off the hook. Not sure how they pulled that off but I constantly feel like I'm watching an episode of a series and slowly realizing that I must skipped over the previous episode. But I haven't, I played 2016, I read the lore, and I still don't understand half of what is going on. I'm being guided by green etherial dogs... I'm just lost trying to figure out what is going on when I should be running and gunning.

I'll put difficulty at the lowest setting to speed things up and try to grind through the unbearable fights only because I wasted money on this. Hopefully the lore will be worth it. I was so excited for this game, now I'm more excided about Doom64 that I got for preordering this.

Maybe you'll like this. Apparently many people like it. Just keep in mind that this is not Doom 2016. It is way more complex, you'll be thinking way more instead of enjoying raw violence. The similarities with Doom 2016 are: glory kills exist in both, it's the same universe (but I wouldn't say it's the same doomslayer), some demons exist in both games, and well that's all. The two games feel completely different. I was hoping for more Doom 2016, I got an annoying puzzle shooter.

Doom eternal improves pretty much everything that doom 2016 did. Better enviroments, great combat variety, an anwsome soundtrack, movement is greatly improved with the added dash ability. You are always on a constant rush to rip and tear every enemy.

I do have some issues with the game though. The platforming sections slow the pacing of the game down, and the story is not very good.

Even on "Don't Hurt Me" difficulty, you will get your ass handed to you and die over and over after the first 15 minutes are done. They seem to want you to juggle several gameplay elements at once, rather than the tried-and-true "shoot the demons and don't die" that is the hallmark of Doom. They also really want you running out of ammo at every turn, and running out of gas for your chainsaw too, so that you have to take on an endlessly respawning room of demons with your fists (spoiler: you will not win.) Does that sound fun to you? It makes me want to punch a hole in the wall, frankly, and that's not why I play video games. They're supposed to relieve stress, not create it.

I was quite looking forward to this game as i found 2016's offering disappointing and chock-full of live service crap. I thought they would have learned from this the way EA did with Star Wars, but oh was I wrong.

The graphics are the only nice thing I have to say about this game really. The game runs quite smoothly and the first level or so is quite visually impressive. However that's where my compliments come to an end. I only played the first three levels so bear this in mind, but I got sick of the blandness across the level, such as lava and red rock terrain everywhere. Executing enemies is a sight to behold, but after a dozen executions this just becomes a chore and a bore as you watch the same graphical manoeuvres repeatedly.

Despite only playing a handful of levels, the story didn't make any sense to me. It felt like I was dropped in halfway through it and there was no way of getting up to speed on what was happening. Older Doom games didn't really have a story and I much prefer this over the modern iteration's attempt through having random cut-scenes and characters appear with nonsensical dialogue. I don't understand how they screwed this up so badly. All we needed was a basic story akin to Oblivion where we needed to close off a portal to stop demons coming through. Actually, I do know how they screwed this up and I will explain below.

The gameplay is where Doom lives up to its name in all the wrong ways. The most obvious experience is that I was constantly struggling to have enough ammo and was getting killed very easily even on the lowest difficulty. This doesn't strike me as true to the ethos of Doom; this feels more like artificial and unbalanced difficulty with bad game design. In addition to this, Doom suffers from you facing hordes of enemies, which becomes wearisome fairly quickly. This makes the game feel more like a run of the mill zombie shooter rather than a Doom game.

I need to give the platforming its own special mention. It really is dreadful. You are constantly jumping around the level and using mid-air dashes to reach higher ground. Basically if you're not shooting hordes of enemies you are jumping to the next platform to activate the next horde. It doesn't help that the platforming mechanics don't really lend themselves well to Doom and are combined with bad level design.

Last but definitely not least, I believe what has ruined this game most of all is the live services model it has adopted. After installing the update I got a new background skin just for logging in. Then I noticed the menus had added sections such as 'events' and other adverts only found in live services games such as Fortnite. This makes more sense when you consider that the game is clearly geared towards online multiplayer and the campaign feels tacked on if anything. This makes the game more like Call of Duty or Fortnite using a Doom skin.

Overall, Doom has lost sight of what it made it great. This is unsurprising given that Bethesda are at the helm. Doom should exist as a cult attraction much in the way Resident Evil did, and they made a much better job or recent RE remakes than these Doom offerings, which isn't saying much. This is not a Doom game. It lacks the atmosphere, level design and tension of older Doom games such as Doom 64. Do not bother with this.

Perhaps it was better on PC, I wouldn’t know.
The initial impressions weren’t good and the game just didn’t find its feet from then on out.

Combat involved entering an arena, and then burning through all your weapons to kill enemies and repetitively break some jaws (so many times) to get shiny objects, then move to next arena and repeat. Unpopular opinion I know, believe me. I tried very hard to like this game and I almost stopped playing it but I needed to complete it and give it that at least.

I’d recommend playing the 2016 release again rather than purchasing this latest release. 2016 captured the horror that is Doom, Doom 2 and even Doom 3 but Eternal just felt like I was driving a tank in a game that struggled with its own identity.

Doom (2016) was excellent – a fairly back-to-basics FPS, executed superbly with surprisingly good worldbuilding and it even snuck in a good story. Then Eternal said "more is better" to everything and ruined it with awkward new game mechanics, platforming, boring level design, emphasis on using the chainsaw to collect ammo, stupid dialog from the AUC holograms, etc. It's just not fun.

This game is in a word, Amazing. DOOM 2016 was a truly remarkable remake of the original building a bit on the core game and an overall work of art, but DOOM Eternal is where they really turn up the heat. I don't give a 10 lightly like many Metacritic users, a game truly has to be something special for me to give it the highest rating and DOOM Eternal definitely makes the cut. DOOM Eternal is through and through an amazing game, throughout the entirety of the gameplay you feel incredibly powerful and it's just so satisfying to tear through hordes of the strongest demons hell can throw at you. The only true problem I have with the game is that the Battlemode is incredibly lackluster and if I dont have a particular goal in mind I dont find myself sitting down to play it, but this alone is not enough to bring down the game's rating. 10/10 would play again. Playing this game is a complete shot of pure adrenaline, there were times that I had to take off my shirt to play since my fingers moved so fast that I even had to make some rest times when playing. The narrative has some problems and presents certain beginner errors, but it is not something serious in itself and it does not hinder the story nor does it make it so bad. Combat is the best of the game, fast frenzy and fun, when you really play you feel in the slayer's shoes, since you will not have time to think, what is recommended is that you learn what the weak points of the enemies are, since each weapon affects each enemy differently, which is perfect, however it takes some getting used to the controls at first, but then it's worth it. As for the content of the game, it is quite extensive, with many missions, many collectibles (if not too many), among which there are toys, history information pages, music discs, etc. The game also has two expansions for the story of which one has already come out and the second is possible that it will come out in early 2021, the expansion is quite fun, somewhat shorter than the initial campaign, but it is not bad at all. And finally, the game has a multiplayer mode, for which it is not even necessary to have the base game to play it, the problem is the pairing, it is possible that being lvl 27 you will be paired with people who have been playing since day 1, something for which it is not easy to dedicate hours to this game mode. In summary, DOOM ETERNAL is one of the best video game experiences of the year, in case of a new confinement due to the coronavirus it is highly recommended, time will pass really quickly. Expand

Doom is all about the action, and it feels great here. It's fast paced, frantic, but always manageable thanks to the many tools at your disposal. There's some strategy required too, as exploiting the different demons weaknesses gives you an edge in combat. You've also got to manage your health, armour and ammo, and you've got ways to replenish all three. For example, if you're low on health, you glory kill a demon, which provides health drops. If you're low on ammo, you use the chainsaw, which provides ammo drops. This all helps to keep the combat engaging throughout the campaign.

Although it plays quite similarly to Doom 2016, I think I enjoyed this sequel a bit more thanks to a couple of factors. I like the added mobility found in Doom Eternal through the new dash ability and the grapple hook on the super shotgun, both of which serve to make the movement both in combat and in general even more fun. I also felt there was more visual variety in the missions compared to Doom 2016, as you travel to a greater variety of destinations in this campaign which made for more memorable levels.

Another way Doom Eternal differs is in its platforming sections which I personally enjoyed. They're a nice breather in between combat sections. Eternal also tries to develop the lore of the Doom Slayer but this is one aspect of the game I wasn't amazed by. It feels almost out of place in a game all about the action, and a lot of it is explained through codex entries. This is a Doom game, so stopping every time you find a page just to read some overwritten lore doesn't fit, at least in my opinion. More dedicated fans of the franchise might appreciate this but I wasn't all that interested.

Although I enjoyed most of the game, some enemy encounters were quite frustrating. Marauders, despite having a very cool design, can be annoying to fight as they require you to slow down and divert all your attention to them, waiting for a cue that tells you you can damage them. You have to fight them a few too many times. It can also be a bit too easy to get stuck sandwiched between enemies and/or terrain in some fights which can lead to some frustrating deaths if you fail to escape.

That said, I really enjoyed the final boss fight. It was tense, epic and provided just the right amount of challenge.

Doom Eternal also has an asymmetrical multiplayer mode where one person plays as the
Slayer fighting two player controlled demons. It's decent fun and its something different. There's not a whole lot of depth to it but it's worth playing a few matches.

Overall, I really liked this game. It's got excellent combat, a great metal soundtrack, and some cool collectibles. It's not perfect though - some fights can be frustrating, the storyline/lore feels unnecessary, and during my playthrough I encountered a few bugs including a crash. The multiplayer mode isn't as compelling as the single player campaign either. Given all that though, this is still a damn cool shooter that consistently delivers high-octane thrills.

I play shooter to shoot not to jump and find some ammo. Yes yes, it is very intellectual to constantly thinking about which weapon you have to use in every situation, but I prefer not to. That is why I play ARCADE shooters.

If i had to rate Doom (2016), I'd give it an 8/10. It was an excellent game.

The gameplay is frantic, fast and gives you a small heart attack from time to time. To my frustration, this entry uses much more 'environmental' obstacles. The very annoying tentacle monsters that are causing me to jump up, electrified floors and fire spitting buttholes in walls that damage the Doom marine, but not demons -_- great. Next to that, unless you commit to using a different weapon or ability every 5 seconds, you'll die very easily. Which frustrated me considering it undercuts the doom guy! Isn't this dude supposed to scare the **** out of all the demons? Instead he dies like a little **** way to easy.

And that's what i don't understand. Doom 2016 gave you freedom to play as you wanted with any of the deadly guns you owned. Doom Eternal forces you to do this strange mixing of weapons, and if you don't want it... Screw you.

Levels in Doom Eternal are more lineair than in Doom 2016, and i like it! For people who don't care about exploring in a fast paced FPS it is much more straightforward. This is definitely an improvement to me.

The graphics of Eternal are great. It has a good soundtrack, and the enemy designs look good. However, the ones from the previous game looked much scarier. Eternal's enemies from time to time look more cartoonish. Apparently that is to match the first Doom game, although i don't understand why that is something good.

The UI is overstuffed and too small in certain places. The Health and Armor gauges are clearly visible, but all the extra prompts for abilities are so small it is hard to see what's on them in the middle of a frantic fight. Id software gave a surprisingly large amount of options to customize the experience, but guess what they didn't add... A way to make the UI bigger!

At first i considered the secrets you collect fun little ornaments. But once i collected a secret that was basically a Doom LP, i realized it was self-indulgent crap. Even the developers weren't shy about the fact that they are just ripping of a way older game. Is this supposed to subconsciously make me want to buy the Soundtrack?? So dumb.

Doom Eternal is definitely not a bad game. It functions properly, and there is true entertainment in it once you get the hang of it. But i feel like Doom 2016 worked better with the choice of how you want to play, and with a story that doesn't try to build too much lore. More is not necessarily better! Doom Eternal is like an overstuffed goody back, and Id software forgot what they went to the store for. I give it a 7/10. It is a good game.

Stupidly Difficult jumps , some bad level design and stupid shield enemy like madura that requires timing = annoying game for disabled people epecially the jump in urdak that requires you to jump from coffin to coffin and shoot a target. I paid for a shooter not a platforming game. They should go back to the great design from doom 1. Sure the game is faster , maybe more complex but if jumps etc ruin someone progress and stops them for over 30 -40 minutes it means the level is badly designed. Also the combat sometimes is to much and the new secret encounter garbage is annoying as hell to complete sometimes. Finally what is the point of in game rewards /cheats if you need to beat levels first to use them? ----- Stupid jumps ruined this game. Update changing score from 5 to 7 cause it was still a good game. I just played it the wrong time straight after doom 1. Some of the stuff in doom 2 was good like the giant boss at end too. Expand

Doom Eternal lost the frenzied simplicity of its predecessor. There are new mechanics that are uncesesaary, and even boring. The levels aren't as clever as the original, the exploration is a drag and, God forbid, there's even platforming. After a few sessions, you realize that eternal is inferior to its previous iteration on every aspect. I regret buying it.

Controls are tighter than ever, precision and agility is still essential, every single weapon feels brutal and tasty, level design is clever, enemy variety is still as good as in the first game, graphics are amazing, the pacing is brilliant and the soundtrack packs an even bigger punch than before. Everything just works amazingly well! Doom Eternal's gameplay is so well done, that makes its flaws feel very small. Hell, even the control scheme makes every mechanic seamless to use. And there are A LOT of mechanics to learn, use and master.
Everything feels much more epic and I think that this happened not only due to the precise and frantic gameplay, but also because of its new charm and aesthetic. Cutscenes are way more cinematic, Doomguy's portrayal is better, each level feels different, with beautiful/grotesque environments throughout the entire campaign, glory kills are satisfying to pull and the sense of scale in each of the 13 missions is incredible.
Even the story is better. It's still forgettable and lacks character, but it's a bit more interesting than before, certainly weightier and perfectly fits with the context of... Well, Doomguy's endless demon killing spree!

Doom Eternal's flaws are almost the same as its predecessor. Since it got bigger and tried different things, some issues were a bit hard to ignore, despite the stunning time I had with it.
    - Platforming moments felt clumsy and a bit out of place -
Doom's gameplay is so polished, that when something goes wrong, it's very easy to notice. The platforming sections, for example, felt janky and kinda off.
    - Some levels were VERY long -
I like the larger nature of this game, but I prefer Doom 2016's more streamlined missions a lot more. They aren't SUBSTANTIALLY bigger, but they can get a little bit tiring.
    - Collectible/Secrets overdose -
One of the things that I did not care for in Doom 2016 were its collectibles and secrets. Here, the feeling of completing a hidden challenge or finding a secret is nice, but they focused TOO MUCH on it. Everything is optional, but when your entire fortress is basically a collectible sanctuary, it's hard to ignore. I much rather focus on demon slaying.
    - The Marauder -
**** this guy. He is broken. ESPECIALLY on the hardest difficulties. Just nerf him or take him out, because he can EASILY disjunction your experience.

    I HIGLY RECOMMEND Doom Eternal!
Whether you played the first one or not, this game is fantastic!
Play it now, unless you have a problem with FPS games, blood or demons.

Had a blast with this game! The gameplay has been revised since Doom 2016, with a bigger focus on resource management. Initially this could make you feel like it's imbalanced if you don't take the time to understand the mechanics. But once you get into the habit of using the chainsawHad a blast with this game! The gameplay has been revised since Doom 2016, with a bigger focus on resource management. Weapons have less ammo and you have to use various equipment to make enemies drop health, armour and ammo. Initially this could make you feel like it's imbalanced if you don't take the time to understand the mechanics. But once you get into the habit of using the chainsaw for ammo, flame belch to make enemies drop armour and cryo grenades to make them drop health, it creates a satisfying frantic loop of maintaining your resources while staying in the fight. The reduced max ammo does mean you can't just spam your fav weapon now, so you're encouraged to switch it up. Especially since they've given each weapon specific advantages over certain demons. For example: a shotgun grenade will instantly put a cacodemon into the glory kill state. The weapons and demon designs have been revised to more accurately resemble the doom 2 variants. This is a welcome change! It's great seeing the original cyber demon design (now called tyrants)
There is now a bigger focus on platforming to keep players engaged between fights. This can be hit or miss for me. Sometimes it's a fun diversion, other times an annoying time waster. It has a much more arcade feel, between the super mario platforming and weapon/secrets appearing as big floating brightly lit icons. Also it's a confetti explosion when enemies drop supplies. It does take away from the grit that was in the previous game, although Eternal still has the brutal levels of violence you'd expect.
The story is not very interesting tbh, it's icing on the cake at best and a series of wasted potential at worst. The lore entries you find scattered about sound more interesting than what we play through. We get to read about this huge defence made by earth's forces against the demons, but when the game begins the defence has already fallen. This means we play through barren areas with no survivors or huge battles. Instead we get to see the leftover remains of the battles that happened. You'll see things like dead bodies and destroyed giant mechs in the distance. But it feels like we missed the most exciting part of the story.
Overall it's a super fun game, with an average story but much improved gameplay. Although the platforming is hit or miss, the combat is better than ever. Also the soundtrack is amazing and Mick Gordon outdid himself here.

Because of it's genre it's still going to be repetitive in nature, and the story is pretty straightforward, and there will be no character development whatsoever. They make up for that with more tactical shooting gameplay, spraying will get you killed; you must remain moving, enemies have weakpoints, general weakness, etc. The game mixes exploration, platforming and enemy encounters pretty well, and overall this is probably one of the best fps games this gen.

Bonus: they also have a multiplayer gamemode called battlemode. It's a 2 v 1 mode, one player is the doomguy, other 2 are demons.. with all their abilites available to them, it's essentially a deathmatch. Demons can summon extra A.I enemies, and overall it's pretty unique. mechanic wise it's solid, but personally I don't see myself spending a lot of time in this mode.I personally didn't really like playing as doomguy and there are just better multiplayer games on the market. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Bought it on sale and I'm still not convinced it was worth it even at half off. I'll start by saying that I absolutely loved Doom 2016, love love loved it! I loved it so much that I bought it again for the switch when I got one (sure it's not as good looking on switch but I wasnt expecting it to be.) That is why I'm so sad that this game doesnt live up to it. Within the first couple minutes of playing I felt like everything was off and I wasnt going to like it. The more I played within the first few minutes I could feel the look of disapointment growing on my face. The music doesnt grip me like the last game, and in the beginning I felt like it didnt match up with the action at all. The constant running around looking for ammo is repetitive and annoying. Like I get the argument of how it can make the game more challenging, but to me it just took me out of the action and made me have to run from fights- which is not what Doom Guy is about. Which leads me to the story. What the **** am I playing? Seriously I feel like I missed an entire game worth of story. I'm sure the lore parts clear up a lot but I payed for a game, not a book. I have almost no idea on what's going on and it is really taking me out of the game experience. I know having exposition dumps in the beginning dont make for good story telling, but if any game needed it, it would be Doom Eternal. I've only played as far as the gore nest mission but from my understanding of the story there are 3 guys you got to kill to stop the demons from completely destroying earth. Okay fine. In the beginning you kill one right away- total Doom guy move. Then you show up to where the other two are and just listen to them talk. Doom guy is right there and he could have just killed them and ended things right there. Why the **** didn't he? Then after you kill the second one, the big final boss like hacks your ship to tell you that they are hiding the last guy. Why would they do that? Also, if they hacked Doom Guys ship, why not just **** with all the systems onboard and crash his ship or something? It doesnt make sense to me and at this point I have checked out story wise. The addition of platforming puzzles was interesting for about 5 minutes and then got me annoyed. I dont feel like that really keeps with the tone of the game. It's cool to grab poles and swing while in combat but everything else is lame to me. I want to keep going because I paid for it and I hope that there can be something I can enjoy. But in terms of the changes to guns and ammo and combat Idk. Theres soo much added in up front that I forget a lot of the time and switching between weapons and grenades is little clunky on a ps4 controller. I'm gonna try to finish it, but I'm not expecting much else from this game. The only positive I see in this game is that it looks awesome. Expand

    RECOMENDADO.

Far from as good as the first Doom. This is like some Mario/Uncharted in hell with jumping gaps and swinging from bars, just only in 1st person. Sometimes a bit overwhelming on air-time here.
From the start you will like to hate this game. You start out so bare-boned. No power-ups of any kind and ridiculous tiny ammo bag. Running out of ammo is almost constant to begin with.

Luckily you can power up your carrying capacity a few times, and it should be your number one priority. There is tons of other power-ups and upgrades as well.

This game is punishing you in the start but it really picks up the pace about midway through. Boss fights are far in between but you will fight and encounter some hard foes as you go.

The music continues in the same vein with Mick Gordon. But i think the soundtrack was better in the previous game. Still fueled for adrenalin and pushes your testosterone.

The game runs weird on my PS4 pro. When i pause the game the fan almost instantly cuts, and when i resume, it goes full turbo mode and throttles like crazy. It seems poorly optimised.

    But alas...
A good game if you can live trough the start, it does get better as you progress.

If you like great FPS games Doom eternal probably the best you can buy right now. Improving Doom 2016 combat in pretty much everything. And i didint had any problems with jumping puzzles in this game like everybody else (they actually is ok) :) But i missing doom 2016 multiplayer it was not that bad as people told. Slayer vs Demons getting old pretty fast

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Let's just say that the pacing is ruined by the fact that the combat is really restrictive, Grenade for Cacodemon, shoot the arachnotron turret, destroy the mancubus guns.oh and the AMMO PROBLEM, seriously why is their no way to get unlimited ammo?, I would like to slaughter demons, not run around while waiting for more chainsaw fuel just so I can kill an imp for a tiny amount of ammo just to find out that that's not enough ammo Expand

Doom Eternal is actually quite hard game. Don't get me wrong, I love hard games. I am a big FromSoftware fan. I play all my games on hard. If I wanted to play jumping games, I wouldn't choose Doom lol. The music doesen't fit at all compared to Doom 2016, basically only the menu song is to be remembered. Most of the game I was just hoping to get to the end and play something else. I stopped playing the game like 10 times before I finished it. Usually I am the type of guy who finishes a good game in two days without many breaks...

So there are many issues with Doom Eternal on Playstation. Doom 2016 was an amazing experience, I had lots of fun on the hardest difficulty, everything was working. Doom Eternal does not have it. No offense towards the devs, I am pretty sure the game feels very different when played with mouse and keyboard. Or at least with the back buttons adjustment. I'll get back to the game one day and correct my rating if I choose my mind.

The game is nothing like the DOOM 2016 game. DOOM Eternal is terrible. Poor coloring, poor HUD, terrible upgrade system, controls seem laggy throughout the entire playthrough. And platforming.. ¡REALLY!? This entire game was a waste of design and money.

The thing I want to praise the most about Doom: Eternal is it's diverse environments and the enormous expansion to the lore of this universe. Every new planet, dimension and level looks beautiful, especially Taras Nabad and Urdak. The Slayer is an amazing character that was expanded a lot in Eternal with a complete backstory and awesome interactions, I loved collecting everything so that I could learn about this universe.

The weapons, enemies and bosses are great. The Marauder is awesome and it makes me want to see more of him in the future. I recommend Doom: Eternal a lot. If you like fast paced FPSs you should definitely give it a go.

This might be the best game of it's kind. It takes everything great about the first game and amps it up. The Score is fantastic, the action is everything you want from a title in this genre and the replay value is extremely high. THIS is the Doom game we have wanted and should be a serious contender for GOTY

I really enjoyed Doom 2016, I liked the art design, the sound, the gameplay. It was a pleasent experience.
So I looked forward to Eternal, bit as soon as I started all my hopes were gone in an instant.

But worst of all the gameplay is no fun (remember this is only my personal opinion). The Jump'n Run mechanics simply don't work for me: I always have a wrong angle, get stuck at an edge or simply don't really know where I am supposed to go. And shooting is based on overwhelming the player with loads of enemies and some of them are just stupid spamming shields. I never quite have the feeling to be in control or to know how to best kill the enemies. There's pretty high difficulty spike in the later third of the game, which made me quit the game altogether.
Seems like many people enjoy it, but this game is obviously not made for me and I haven't felt so lost with a controller since PS1 times.
