    Stay away from this game. This is not Doom. I had to check the box a couple of times when i started playing and the menu to confirm that i was indeed playing Doom Eternal and that it's a single player campaign. Play any previous incarnation instead. I have no idea who is writing positive reviews. It's basically Doom 3 arena in single player just with no ammo and platforming. Blows my mind.

The game just feels so smooth and it feels great to play. The story is also solid, particularity in the second half of the game (Taras Nabad codex entries are just awesome). The decision id software made to give players less ammo and smarter enemy AI is a big positive as well- the game wants you to learn and adapt, not just mindlessly fly through the levels. Overall, I was extremely impressed with DOOM Eternal and I can't wait for the DLC. Expand

    Unfortunately for Doom Eternal, nearly every aspect of this has been scaled back in quality. Immediately we are immersed into a story driven narrative that nobody asked for or wanted. Weapons have been balanced dramatically altering their effectiveness, and ammo is now much more scarce in an effort to make the game feel more strategic. Pacing is out the window, as most of your abilities and upgrades are provided immediately. The music is a huge letdown, due to the failed attempts of Mick Gordon to execute his deadlines on time. The whole game is now very platform based and arcade like.

    While still a respectable shooter with lots of good things going for it, this is not the Doom series that re-emerged this generation.

I'm the DOOM Slayer, not George of the f***ing Jungle. It absolutely kills the immersion and pace of the game.

    Stand still and you will die. You must always keep moving. That's about all this game has to offer that is "DOOM." Once far enough into the game you have enough unlocks the combat can be fun, but again the constant inventory management is so distracting from a DOOM game. Music is great but the same track is often used over and over and over again. While it has it's fun moments in some of the kill arenas the game overall is a frustrating experience. Massive step in wrong direction after DOOM 2016. Very disappointed.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although i m really grateful for the efforts of the dev team, this game really didn’ t hit the mark. The cartoonish graphic is out of place, but they mentioned it when announced so i was prepared fo that, what i was not prepared for was the jump in the storyline/plot from the end of the previous one and the beginning of this, not to mention these seemingly divine creatures appearing out of nowhere or this Betrayer guy sitting there talking to me like he is my father; no idea who they are but Doom guy clearly does!! So much for immersion in the story!

    This new Space fortress/base/gadget storage feels very much like Wolfenstein TNC, it cuts the levels and you basically go in places that you never heard of to fix situations you didn’t know happened.

    The combat system, as a lot of people already mentioned....not really entertaining. Wasn’t it supposed to be a Power Fantasy? Feels more like a Farming Fantasy honestly, you are the weakest element in the battlefield ( they still call you Slayer tho) and the game forces you to literally run away to collect ammo/hp/armor to be able to survive and slowly chip away health from the 2-3 actual enemies present. I m not saying Doom 2016 was perfect but combat was satisfying, waves and waves of enemies but you still felt competitive, you could pierce their ranks while still need to find health and reposition yourself. I m not complaining about being too difficult, i enjoy Ultra- violence but the base concept of the combat is not fitting in my opinion.

    I understand that after the huge success the team felt they could do anything and i read a lot of people screaming at the miracle this game is, it s clearly not a miracle but the passion was there and is enough for a 4 just to balance out. P.S. i will not talking about the platforming parts so I save the time i wasted on it.

    Simply better than Doom 2016. I like games where I have to closely manage myself and use everything at my disposal to overcome situations. The game is just an absolute power fantasy you feel like the most bad ass guy around. People bash the game for lots of things but none of them feels justified. Most of them just hate it for being different from 2016. You see in 2016 about the only challenge in the game was the damage the enemies dished out, you basically never ran out of ammo so you could just pick a weapon and blow through the game with it. You had the chainsaw to replenish your ammo if need be but you never had to because the levels were littered with ammo health and armor. That's not to say that I didn't like it, it's just that eternal just flat out better in every regard, the levels have way less resources so you absolutely need to use everything you have to win and the game throws twice the amount of enemies at you to deal with . It's also much more video-gamey in a sense that there are lots of retro elements in it. Like all sorts of hazards that you have to navigate, platforming sections and extra lives to collect. It's much more colourful, and the overall aspect of the game is more like a cool 90s action cartoon, just with gallons of blood. It's much more story heavy it expands upon the lore that was in 2016 but not in a way that would come in expense of gameplay its really well balanced. It seems that the people at id software sat down and said "you know what let's make f*cking videogame, not a cinematic experience, no, an awesome videogame." And that is what it feels like to play Eternal, a really cool and very challenging game. Some players are complaining about a certain enemy that ruins the flow of the game... I have no idea why they feel this way. Every enemy presents a unique challenge that you constantly need to be aware of and deal with them accordingly. It feels very polished and everything serves a purpose. I absolutely understand what Id software tried to accomplish with this game, and they nailed it. If you thought that doom 2016 was good but something was just amiss, then Eternal will be right up your alley. I will not give it a perfect score because there are some minor gripes I had with the game, like some glory kills would not register correctly so I had to replay a level so I can complete the level challenge and one or two weapons or weapon mods are just not that interesting to play around with but that could be a personal issue. All in all Doom Eternal is just a flat out good time. 9/10 Expand

    Doom Eternal in a nutshell: I died 30 times on the second boss, barely getting it to 50% life on my best run. The game offered me Sentinel Armor. I put on Sentinel Armor, and I defeated the boss without taking ONE point of health loss.

    C'mon, id, there HAS to be a middle ground. In fact, I know there is. I played Doom 2016.

    In a fast-paced game all about movement, you do not lock upgrades that give you better movement control behind upgrades

    In a well-balanced game, difficulty settings provide a proper challenge that you can meet.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a disappointment for me. It just does not feel like Doom, It feels like the devs wanted to make this like a halo game and insert a story. (They even put an AI in your suit) lol. They force you to do melee kills in order to play well and is the only way to survive unrelenting hordes of demons and monsters. The story is also mostly conveyed reading texts, yawn.

    The levels are multilayered, but small so there's not much room to run and gun like the old doom games. And boy does this game throw relentless enemies at you, some of which have cheap hits. It's a very trial and error game IMO.

    There is excessive platforming so much so that the game feels like a jumping flash game.

    Unfortunately, this is quite a different game from Doom: 2016. Rather than thinking "what gun is best to kill this bunch of demons" you will be thinking "which weapon has ammo" (because you run out very fast), or "will I chainsaw or flame this demon".

    It's constant farming, constantly low on ammo, constantly low on health or armour. I spend more time trying NOT to kill demons with shots

    It's constant farming, constantly low on ammo, constantly low on health or armour. Loved Doom: 2016, finished it in a few days and immediately restarted on nightmare mode, now THAT was a fun challenge. This game however, is hard, but not in a fun way, and I'm so bored of it now I don't feel like finishing it.

    The game is so repetitive, chainsaw, glory kill, flame, glory kill, shoot an imp in the leg, glory kill, shoot some stuff, out of ammo already, chainsaw. The game forces you to play a certain way. Instead of choosing the gun you like, you use whatever has ammo, and let the game choose your next one when you run out in 4 seconds.

    Most disappointing game of the year.

    Introduction

    Hello my name Andy and welcome back to another episode and today i will reviewing
    DOOM Eternal on PC but can also play it on PS4 and Xbox one
    I finished the campaign in 16 hours on the hurt me plenty and i had the graphics set high and was
    getting 60 fps smooth game-play thought the game.

    Story

    DOOM Eternal's story starts a few years after the events of 2016 one where you have your own base of
    operations called the fortress of doom that you use to acquire upgrades and launch missions.

    The lore of the game has been expanded . If you are interested in the story or
    lore of the DOOM guy then you'll be pleasantly surprised.

    , as you progress through the game you can find bits of lore that explain in detail what has happened in the past.

    The story, told directly in the game through cut scenes and dialogue won't be that great but if you bother reading everything it becomes something nice and has the potential to expand even further.

    It won't win any prizes for writing but I loved how bad ass the whole thing is about the DOOM guy.

    Game play

    DOOM Eternal is basically the same as it's previous game a fast-paced first-person shooter where you slay thousands of demons with your arsenal.
    The big difference is chainsaw mechanic from the previous game is now a mandatory tool to gather ammo
    The game is on a different level on Nightmare difficulty,

    Most enemies now have weaknesses which you can exploit using your weapons so
    you'll be changing up weapons and mods to counter these demons
    kinda like a constant fast-paced puzzle where you have to think while you shoot.

    Weapons you find are similar to the previous game, as well as most of the dual mods for
    each weapon and you'll be able to upgrade and master them if you want to.
    Runes and suit upgrades also make a return in the game though a bit more simplified.

    The disappointing parts of the game are multiplayer and boss fights. The boss fights are basic
    and you just have to repeat the same thing over and over in
    order to defeat each instead of having a unique fight like The Marauder which is an incredibly tough.

    The Battle mode multiplayer is a one Vs Two mode where one fights as the DOOM
    slayer and the other two as demons,
    It's very basic , nothing truly bad about it but gets boring.

    Overall the game-play feels different on higher difficulties which may not click with some players as the arena style basic shooting is mostly gone and instead they've improved it with tougher design.
    And if you're the kind of person that likes to find secrets, you're in luck, DOOM Eternal has plenty of those.

    Audio
    Mick Gordon is back and yet again he does an amazing job with DOOM Eternal soundtrack.
    The choice in music now is a bit more Gothic which sounds fantastic.

    The rest of the sound design, from voice acting and sound effects, they all great Graphics, performance and tech analysis The game was tested with an i5 8600k, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB RAM, The graphics style has change with Eternal. Doom 2016 had a very gritty, dark look to it but DOOM Eternal colour are a lot more depth to them and look more cartoon ish. The levels look amazing and varied and it's hard not to notice the colourful pickups. It's a different tone and not just graphically but the entire atmosphere feels like it came out of a Gothic bible. As the game went to a more platform game play so did the level design improve a bit. It's still linear mostly but it feels very open at time, well designed, It's not just corridor and arena over and over again. Sadly nothing is perfect and there bound to be issues especially at launch. One bug that annoyed me is I launch the game it would go black and couldn't see the game but i think it been fixed since the launch of the game. As for performance, the game runs flawless even at max settings. Conclusion DOOM Eternal Is the perfect sequel The game-play changes may put off some fans or players but I think the direction it went was fantastic . it is a Amazing game, and probably one the best Fsp games out there. Pro and cons Pros +Gun play is incredibly enjoyable +incredible soundtrack +Lore has been expanded a lot. Cons -Some technical bugs. -Boss fights are not that impressive Final score: 9/10

    Fight is amazing, it's pure Doom. Ripping hordes of demons is still satisfying and frenetic pace won't let you take a breath untill the last demon turns into a bloody mud. By the way, why demon corpses dissapear? They are like my trophies! I relish staying on dead bodies of defeated enemies, let the stay!
    Despite lots of negative opinions I think AI of the enemies is ok. It's true, they are rushing to you all the time, but it puts the pressure and makes the battles even more hectic. Monsters chase you when you are bleeding really bad. They can cooperate for example using energy shields to protect the faltering. The game is really difficult. I'm not a skillful player, but I finished Doom 2016 on "Hurt me plenty". Here I got my a** kicked, died hundreds of times. Here is the biggest bummer of the game - lack of ammo. All the time, even with full ammo upgrades. It hinders even the most epic battle when you have to withdraw to scavenge for reinforcements. The one who came up with this idea should be impaled in infernal flames. Puzzle element doesn't bother me.
    I hoped levels would be more complex. Overall, areas and especially backgrounds look great, but when you delight your eye, they have little to offer. Maps are still linear. I would like to see levels like Doom 2 - full of windows, balconies, corridors, rooms - crammed full of enemies. But NO. You are still fighring in fight-rooms. Sequence: "big room on the map - teleporting enemies - battle - checkpoint" is boring. Sometimes I felt like in Croc: Legend of the Gobbos or Tomb Rider. I'm affraid Bethesda doesn't hire talented level designers.
    Music is great. It's exactly what I supposed to hear sawing bodies in halves. The orgy for every heavy metal fan.
    All in all, I had a good time playing Doom Eternal. I didn't get exactly what I wanted, maybe my expectations were too high, but finally it's DOOM.

    Итак, начнем с плюсов:

    + Превосходная оптимизация. Никаких лагов, тормозов, фризов. Все плавно и стабильно на среднем железе, на ультрах;
    + Отличный саундтрек. Тяжелая динамичная музыка, хорошо вписывается в происходящее;
    + Разносторонняя система прокачки персонажа;
    + Испытания и секреты на уровнях;
    + Есть меч для ближнего боя, хоть и всего с тремя зарядами;
    + Сочные бои в формате один против всех. Порой сражения довольно трудные и непредсказуемые. Резня может оборваться в любой момент;

    Теперь минусы:
    - Рваный сюжет с непоследовательной подачей. Нет ярких персонажей, затягивающей линии сценария, имеются откровенные ляпы. Хоть какое-то подобие сюжета начинается когда уже большая часть кампании пройдена;
    - Навязанная механика боя, которая делится на ближний бой и супер-ближний бой. Все способности, прокачка, большинство стволов заточены под рукопашку. Это очень уныло, когда нет выбора, КАК тебе воевать. Любые отступления от задуманной механики жестко караются отсутствием боеприпасов, либо ордами демонов, которые нарочно лезут в клоз;
    - Мало боеприпасов. Да, повторяю ЕЩЁ раз... Здесь ощущаешь себя на повелителем боя, а бешеным алчущим, который только и думает, как бы кого-нибудь распилить, чтобы хватило патронов до конца схватки;
    - Дизайн уровней. Нечто среднее между Quake и Unreal Tournament 3. Да, тут сплошные арены. Локации мало связаны логически, как внутри себя, так и между собой. Они КРАСИВЫ визуально. Однако исследовать их, как в Думе2016 нет никакого желания;
    - Из-за предыдущего пункта напрочь отсутствует атмосферность и ощущение присутствия;
    - Катсцены от 3-го лица... Тут не знаешь, закрывать лицо ладонью или хихикать. Кажется, будто вернулся в стрелялки начала 2000хх. И ох уж эта ФИЗИОНОМИЯ палача! Лучше бы её не показывали;

    В целом вердикт такой. "Если бы не было Doom 2016, то...". Именно предыдущая часть задрала планку до небес Земли и ада. В нём было совершенно всё. Етернал дойти до такого же уровня увы не смог.

    Was great, but felt way too short. There was a deeper sense of exploration in the first one that was great. I don't know, maybe the pacing was off. Something didn't feel as good as the first. Maybe in my old age I'm getting tired of games trying to enchant by throwing everything at you. It just gets boring after awhile, but you do end up wanting to come back.

    If you're looking for a Doom 2016 experience, this is not it. The gameplay is so asinine and rinse & repeat that I barely want to keep finding imps and zombies to chainsaw for ammo, since the developers thought that would be fun to force players to do. Every new aspect of this game slows down the pacing, and that is not what a sequel to one of the best shooters should be like.

There are many customization options available: costumes for the main character, victory poses, introductions, coloring books for weapons. The multiplayer component is done well, a lot of interesting mechanics, we are given to play for 5 different demons and it is very interesting. Demons can also be customized. This game has some great boss battles as well such great spectacle and vistas to see in the backgrounds the soundtrack is killer, the enemy designs are great and even the story is a little better than the first I gues I only have about two complaints about the game and one of them most people are complaining about of course it’s the Marauder he is such a pain in the ass to kill while trying to deal with other enemies this guy will make you rage quit but at the same time I kinda liked that he was in it, it pissed me off but he was such a cool design for an enemy. The other complaint is that the game can be really freaking hard sometimes this game will punish you so much it’ll make you not want to play for a while but hats of to ID for making this gorgeous masterpiece of gameplay I gotta say it’s gonna be hard going back to other FPS games without the gameplay of Doom Eternal Expand

    The campaign was long enough however I would have like some more action cut-scenes or even just voice overs from Vega while playing to help tell the story as reading all the logs was interesting but a bit dull.

    Great gore, could of had even more in my opinion but still satisfying. Great weapons, good challenges. It reminded me of Metroid Prime sometimes which was awesome. This is the best FPS I've played since Doom 2016, it's challenging and makes you think more than most FPS.

    The new Battle Mode I didn't like at first but I stuck with it and eventually got good at it and had a lot of fun with it, except a lot of people would quit if they had to be the Slayer which was annoying sometimes. It's unique but I got over it after about a week and unlocking all the Series One content. I enjoyed Doom 2016's multi-player mode much more in hindsight.

    Getting the Platinum Trophy is fairly quick and easy. You should be able to do it within a week if you put in the time.

    Great and greatly overrated
    Doom Eternal features 2 modes, an online competitive mode where a demon slayer is heavily unfairly matched with infinitely spawning player controlled demons that just isn’t really fun unless you’re on the demon side, so imam just throw that mode away and focus on the reason everyone is buying doom eternal.. its hefty 17 hour long demon filled campaign, and this campaign is really great… here you play as a demon slayer, taking on zombies and demons on earth as well as mars, going through a fairly linear campaign, but one filled with traversal and platforming, which is a very welcomed change.. however I feel this new addition takes a back seat to the straight up demon slaying, which on paper sounds fine, but ultimately it leads to an incohesive feeling world that feels like a bunch of random video game elements stapled together.. and this is Doom Eternals biggest issue…. Nothing feels purposeful, it feels mindless and repetitive from start to finish, none of the levels are memorable, the combat is constant, never giving you a chance to breathe or explore, it’s a headache… playing through doom eternal is an enjoyable headache.. but still a headache…
    combat that time around is much more enjoyable though. Enemies having their weaknesses, making almost every battle feel like a puzzle despite feeling mindless at the same time, rarely leading to frustrating encounters.. but don’t get me wrong.. those encounters do exist.. though rare.. theres one over powered enemy specifically that kills all and any fun youll be having with this game in an instant… more specifically in one area of the game where youre trapped with him and a snake enemy, and no ammo or health really around… which brings me to another gripe I have with doom eternal, its health and ammo situation… ammo health and armor really feel nonexistent in doom eternals world, instead the game relies on you using your abilities to obtain armour and health, you can catch enemies on fire and freeze them, you have chainsaw enemies for ammo… but I just feel like id much rather have ammo drops after killing enemies than forced to find a small one I can chainsaw..wait for that chainsaw to refuel and do it again… the chainsaw system in general is a nonsensical mess… you can store up to 3 chainsaw attacks, however there is no enemy you can kill with 2 fuels… so whats the point… theres 1 and theres 3… and then you have enemies later on that cant be attacked with the chainsaw at all because theyre too big… these enemies should be reserved for 3.. and the middle large enemies killed with 2.. it just leads to fuel hording, and the payoff is never worth it.. but that can be said for this games weapons as well, youre given amazing weapons towards the end of the game, but rarely any fuel to use them, which begs me to ask.. why even give them to me in the first place.. especially the sword… this item didn’t come into play and was basically unusable until the final boss… but if this was that weapons only purpose, I suppose that’s okay… but I feel if that is the case you should’ve just waited longer to give it to me… All in all I do feel Doom Eternal is a great game, its fun zombie slaying to heavy metal, theres a crazy amount of weapons, and different ways to upgrade these weapons, customize them to your gameplay… but just don’t believe the hype… go into doom eternal expecting a great game and not an amazing game or a masterpiece and you surely wont be disappointed…
    But if you go in expecting game of the year, youre going to get smacked with level design and gameplay that feels plucked out of the old god of war games with guns stapled to it
    I give Doom Eternal
    an 8/10

After a bit of hesitation I picked Doom Eternal and tried my luck. The game is very solid, looks incredibly good and the soundtrack is awesome as ever. I like the try on creating a more dense and indepth game world around the doom slayer.

    Execution-wise D.E. feels like a mix of Doom 2016 and Q3A. They finally incoporated all the fast paced mechanics and induced it with the Doom world. The beginning feels very harsh and can be bothering for newcomers. After you geared up a bit and know the mechanics and the gameplay cycles its getting way better but stay intense. I only played it on Hurt me plenty, but it felt the appropriate mix of challenge and fun.

    Some of the mechanics feel a bit overused and unnecessary. I m no fan of the huge section where you have to jump, grab, transfer and crawl around. Some are really frustrating for me and I feel it could be very painful for beginners. Weapon masteries are okay-ish same goes to challenges. With a bit of exploration and patience you will be maxed out around level 10/13 which feels good. The game feels hard to handle on console because you enemies are rock, paper, scissors-like on the equivalent weapons. So you have to switch around a lot and in between kill fodder for replenish of armor and ammo. This could ve been reduced a little bit I feel in general.

    The weapons are fun, levels are huge, intense and also interesting in design. I liked them a lot. Playtime is pretty long for campaign only with around 15hrs. Performance on my PS4 Pro with SSD was outstanding. I had one bluescreen, the rest was fine, no bugs at all. Graphics are really good and loading times were quick.

    I want to give this game a 9 but it only deserves 8 points because of said shortcomings. Some enemies and game loops are obviously not optimized for consoles which is a bit sad. Maybe they can enhance this a bit in a successor and lower the grind-gunplay. Then this game would be a 9-10 for me.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When you have to look up on Youtube how to get around clunky game mechanics, your game is functionally broken. Is the game good? Hell yeah! But it does have it's share of mechanics that are just frustratingly broken that prevent you from progressing. After the first one, it was no big deal. But now that I am running into number two, this is a problem. This should not be in a game like this. The first one was the mechanic referred to by some as "monkey bars". You had to jump up two of them in a row on the outside of a building and then boost across to the other side, grab a wall and then boost back. I spent dozens of times trying to just go around the corner because I just didn't see the wall where you can cling on the other side. Ok, I thought. No big deal. Annoying, but OK I didn't see it. Now the second one happened. It was in the Taras Nabad pool where you can't melee to break the wall, but you have to underwater dash or something. I tried it a few dozen times to look it up on Youtube and was once again very frustrated and annoyed that my progression was being held back because the game designers made some stupid decisions. Yes, Bethesda, there were some stupid decisions made here. And it annoyed me so bad that I shut the game off and I'm not playing it.

    Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game. Just be prepared to get frustrated and annoyed at some moments with clunky game mechanics that will prevent progressing in the game. Why, Bethesda, why?

    I tend to side with story games a lot with immersion and attachment to the characters, but doom eternal is a fun game. It’s game mechanics create fast movement and quick reaction times which resemble an arcade shooter. These mechanics distinguish what a good game and a fun game is. A good game for sure, but one of the funnest games you’ll play today.

    This game was such a blast to play through. Upon completing it on Ultra-Violence I almost immediately started up another save slot on nightmare. I the combat in this game is so damn satisfying to learn. At first I felt a bit overwhelmed.. Especially playing on a higher difficulty. It throws a lot of mechanics at you and on a higher difficulty you really have a lot to think about as you have all kinds of difficult enemies coming at you (with intelligent ai I must add). I the best way to describe it is like playing a game of quantum 3d rockpaper scissors while having to dodge around and avoid getting hit. When you get the hang of it it has this really amazing zen feel to it. I love a game with a challenge that's fair and makes you think on your feet and this fits the bill.

    Undoubtably the best fps I've ever played and sets the bar for future ones to come. Not to mention the fact that the graphics are superb and runs at a smooth 60fps on ps4 pro. This **** looks better than a lot of animated movies. Literally every frame of it just oozes with detail and beautiful color. MUST Have and most likely will be the game of the year for 2020. Depending on how last of us 2 and cyperpunk 2077 are.

    So, I guess I'll just parrot what a lot of people are saying. DOOM Eternal is a fantastic game from start to finish. I'll keep it *mostly* spoiler-free for those who have somehow not played it yet. However, there will be some ahead, so you've been warned. Okay, I'll start with pros.

    Pros:
    - Great campaign with a solid approach to its simple story, being heavily supported by surprisingly-detailed lore.
    - Some of the best FPS gameplay I've ever had the pleasure of taking part in. Combat is extremely satisfying and intense, the controls are just right, movement is very fluid and fast-paced, enemy variety is high enough to keep things fresh, the weapons are a blast to use, the shortened amount of ammo means you'll have to actually use your chainsaw for more than just saving fuel to kill bigger demons, like before, and glory kills are better than they were in Doom 2016 (or DoomK16, which is what I affectionately call it). This is a brutal arena-oriented shooter that will require focus and strategy. It's far more involving than before, and I love it for that. Get used to the mechanics, and you'll Rip and Tear in no time.
    - The collectibles make it worth searching every nook and cranny for them, especially if you wanna go for all of them, as you may get nice rewards out of doing so, such as being able to play the original DOOM, once you unlock all the cheat codes. You can also get DOOM 2, but I'll let you Google how with that one, should you choose.
    - The platforming, while a bit less naturally-flowing with the levels than it was in DoomK16, can be good fun to nail.
    - The soundtrack. That is all I need to say about it. Major kudos to everyone involved in it.
    - There's some spoiler-heavy moments that I think would be quite a treat for those who have previously played Doom.
    - The boss fights are oftentimes more engaging and fun than before, especially the final boss.

    A couple neutral points that I think would be crucial information:
    -There's a particular enemy type that *will* throw things on its head and make it far more difficult for those unable to keep up with its unique combat style, that being the Marauder. While it can be slaughtered easily, provided you know what you're doing, it may be a negative, due to some of its mechanics being particularly bothersome, especially that daggum dog.
    - This game can feel a bit more arcadey than the previous game, especially with the extra lives and cheat codes. While I don't see this as a bad thing at all; in my view, it's more fun. However, it can be something worth pointing out.

    Now for the cons:
    - The purple goo and swimming is a major hindrance to the fun factor of the game. *HOWEVER*, it is brief, thankfully, so it's not too big of a problem. Still an unnecessary roadblock, though.
    - I've run into a couple technical issues that were immersion breakers, or just plain annoying. Rarely, it seems that the textures haven't loaded in. However, walking into it seems to fix the problem. I've also crashed a few times, but it wasn't the biggest deal for me.
    - Although I like the boss fights, that they have fodder demons to back them up kinda takes the immersion of engaging in a 1-on-1 fight away some. It makes more sense with the final boss, and *maybe* the penultimate one as well, but otherwise, I wish they could just provide ammo drops upon exploiting weak points or surpassing a damage threshold, like it was with DoomK16.

    So yeah, fantastic game overall. id Software absolutely hit it out of the park compared to DoomK16, which I think would probably look worse for me on repeat playthroughs. Not that it isn't a game worth playing anymore, but it's jarring the night-and-day difference both games have. Where Doom Eternal takes a step back, it seems to take three-five steps forward. A fantastic game that is well worth your money. This is how you make a sequel.

I purchased it after watching gameplay online and have yet to feel an ounce of disappointment. Seen some complaints about platforming, but I felt it was a welcome break in between the nonstop hordes of enemies and made for a great added challenge. The world feels vast and expansive, the voice acting is phenomenal, and the soundtrack... Holy Hell I really can not give the game enough praise. Totally brutal fun and I fully expect it to win game of the year.
    *Edit*
    I'd recommend to take some of these negative reviews with a grain of salt, particularly the 0 ratings. All story cutscenes are skippable, secrets aren't mandatory to progress, and if you use the game mechanics ammo is completely manageable. This game will not hold your hand, it will not guide you to the objective marker every step of the way. You will need to think and engage. It's raw, it's brutal, it's **** devastatingly hard. I'm playing on Ultraviolence, I get my ass beat, but DOOM Eternal is the first game in a decade that has put me right back into the giddy feeling I got when I played my very first fps ever. I don't ever rate anything a 10 and I've never left a review on metacritic before today, DOOM Eternal is just that good.

    The story works for what it is but is ultimately not what you cane for and the game treats it as such, it's all over the place and pretty crap but really that's not why you play doom.

    Now the multiplayer is fun too but lacks some character? I dont know how to describe it but it's only fun for a few moments but then begins to drag for a while. The only thing holding this back from a 10/10 is the removal of Snap Map, Snap Map is what gave DOOM [2016] replayability and near endless content, but without the mode I find no reason to keep playing this after the campaign is complete. The gameplay is tedious, slower movement, no crouch, monotonous and cramped arenas, constant -forced-teleporting to enemies to execute kills and refill ammo every few seconds. Badly designed platforming sections and vertical areas.
    The list goes on.. a story which they are trying to tell is told very poorly (as opposed to the much better minimalist approach from 2016), level and map designs are also a serious downgrade from 2016, graphics and artstyle , just the tone of the game in general are overly bright and cartoonish with hardly any convincing gore or horror elements to speak of. Garish and obtrusive UI. The music score.. as one of the only remaining redeeming features, still somehow never seems to match the schizophrenic pace of the gameplay.. this time around.

    Eternal is overflowing with unnecessary gimmicks. Quantity over quality.

    After playing through Eternal, went straight back into the 2016 game to refresh my memory.. The difference is like night and day. Having played through 2016 multiple times, it is a far better game.

    Doom Eternal is an average shooter, at best. I am struggling, reaching, to award it a 5 outta 10.. As they've ruined one of the greatest FpS's of all time. . its a Four! Absolutely appalling.

    I'll start by saying, DOOM Eternal is different from its predecessor in many ways and for sure it takes some time to adapt. Sadly, while some things are for the better - some are just pointless changes that just take away from otherwise great experience.

    The biggest positive for me was increased difficulty and what felt like better AI - way more aggressive and way more punishing for dumb plays. I completed the game on Ultra Violence difficulty and it was really hectic and intense. The amount of enemies being thrown at you is literally insane and it's a real blast to kick some demon ass in such a fast paced fashion. And I love Marauder enemies - yeah, hate me now.

    However, there are some problems and I'll try to explain why this is not a 10/10 game as universally praised

    First of all - platforming. While I'm totally fine with that in small doses - some levels literally had more platforming and than fighting arenas and kicking demons ass. It really dragged and stalled the game for no good reason and it's not like platforming is that well done. In some sections it didn't feel very intuitive and for me it never felt cool stuff to do.

    Next up we have bosses - I simply found them boring with repetitive mechanics. For two final bosses - which are basically major game's bosses - you repeat same pattern and what's worse, it's not that much about the boss as controlling adds spawns and keeping up your ammo stock. It just didn't feel so exciting or interesting to be honest.

    The we have bloated progression and a lot of it is completely useless and seems like it was done to add illusion of complexity - while only gun mod and health, ammo caps is all that really matters. I mean more doesn't really mean better, when it's just for the sake of having more of something.

    Finally - I have some criticism on the pace of first 3-4 mission. With the new system, encouraging use of variety of guns - it just works badly when you have just 2-3 guns available early on, no increased ammo cap (crucial to have better fight flow) - because it feels very disruptive and kinda slow. Thankfully the tempo picks up as you progress further, acquire more weapons and mods as well as you upgrade ammo cap.

    Overall - it's a blast and absolutely worth buying even with a bit lackluster multi-player mode (but I didn't get the game for MP, so this wasn't even focus in the review). It's not perfect and some changes could have been handled better, but one cannot deny that this is hell of a shooter game. I don't know about you - but in my book 8/10 is a solid score meaning you can just go and grab the game right now at full price and get you worth back with hours of intense gameplay.

    -Extra abilities and fun new toys.
    -Better multiplayer.
    -New lore and details on where Doomguy came from. I personally preferred the mystery and didn't need this though.

    Cons:
    -You will be jumping, dashing everywhere. The entire game is a laborious jump puzzle. The previous game had touches of it here and there but oh boy, get ready for Prince of Persia, Sands of Hell.
    -The story only makes sense if you read everything you pick up. I had no idea where I was or why half the time until... Ohhh that's why I was here. Very little voice acting prompting you with the story too.
    -The demons have a rock/paper/scissors mechanic to them, one gun kills one of them good now but, oh now you've found another one, need a different gun for him. This might work well on the PC but it ruins the high speed immersion on the PS4 bringing up the weapon wheel every time you turn a corner.
    -Your basic punching does nothing.
    -You will permanently be out of ammo at the beginning of the game.
    -On normal difficulty they Hurt! I destroyed unreal tournament when I was younger so I'm no noob when it comes to high speed games but I'm really glad I didn't put this on hard to begin with.
    -You MUST make/sign into a Bethesda.net account. I have no interest in a Bethesda account, I just came here to shoot things in the face. Why you do this. Was the price I paid for it at the store not enough?

    Despite alllll of these cons, the gunplay and level design (in combat) makes up for all of these things and I would recommend it for fans to buy. I remember finishing my first little intense challenge arena and shouting, Yes! That is what I came here for!
    It's still a great fun game but don't come here expecting more of the same as Doom 2016 because you'll be disappointed like I was. Unless you like jumping over lots of lava of course. Me, when I play Doom, it's to shoot things. Call me a simple man but when I play Assassins Creed it's to sneak around and assassinate people, when I play Mario it's to jump around and boop things. When I play Doom it's to run around and shoot demons in the face with a shotgun. That's it.
    I would rate this lower but a 6 is too low... but a 7 is just a tiny bit too high. 6.8 / 6.9

Mechanically, the game is very similar to Doom 2016, the only major difference being a great reduction in available ammo pickups in order to force the player to use the chainsaw mechanic more often. This change makes combat far more tactical than in the past, as in addition to the ammo mechanic change, the guns have been balanced and now force the player to continuously cycle through their arsenal to find the best matchup against their enemies. More tactical gameplay aside, the game world is simply breathtaking, with impressively detailed vistas of Hell, a ruined Earth and the ruins of the Doomslayer's homeworld to fight in. But, challenging boss fights and fun fights in general made up for a LOT. Killing demons was brutal, as it should be, and exploring levels for secrets was kind of fun. If you are a fan of getting all trophies, achievements you do have to gather them all on one save slot which isn't TOO difficult to do. Which does, unfortunately, make for some low replay value.

    There are also a LOT call-backs and shout-outs to other Doom games and media, so if you're a fan you'll enjoy those.

    Overall, Eternal is better in some ways than Doom 2016 and worse in others like I mentioned before. I'd still say it's a solid 8/10, however.

    it's a great game!!!!! the rush flows through your body and you must use your head in order to not die, even more in the later levels. the music made my ears cum just from the intro, and the pacing is awesome! the enemies are overwhelming and once killed, you get the feeling of a DOOM SLAYER!!!!!!!!

    This game is phenomenal, when you think you’re getting boring it just gets even better, the action goes over the roof. When the level is getting boring, there is in level rooms that give you the action that you feel that you were missing. The game overall just doesn’t get boring, might get boring for like a second but *BANG* new action, different level design, different setting. The difficulty is something that really pays a part of it too, if you choose a lower, easier difficulty, you will enjoy it. But, the harder difficulties, like nightmare and ultra nightmare are more fun. Can’t explain more cause I could be talking for like a year. Expand

    There aren't playstyles in modern Doom so much as players who use absolutely everything, and players who die. [Issue#346, p.84]

    A love letter to the classic series written in blood, Doom Eternal is a fast-paced and utterly thrilling way to paint the town (and Mars, and ethereal realms) red. [Issue#174, p.89]

    I enjoyed the ending, but it was so long. I had to wipe the sweat off my forehead. But it felt so good to be done.
