Before I had my doubts, but when I bought this game I was completely blown away. All the characters are well written and really make you care for their story. The graphics look absolutely stunning. There are many choices and it shows the amount of work put into this game. Every chapter was so intriguing to play. Defenietly, buy this game and its worth it.

And at the beginning you have only childhood happiness, all mechanics work, graphics on the PS4 Pro look amazing, and the main thing you start to believe characters. How to smell the disappointment of realizing that Cage reduces such a beautiful story with a lot of choices to the usual story "Do androids dream of electric sheep?" I think it is good to explore potential societal issues in computer games. It might even be real someday and sooner than we think. Science fiction has been a pre-cursor to science fact. You can see this one as a interesting social experiment of potential future things to come, maybe?

Conor was a bit of a robot drone and Kara was to self absorbed to see the bigger picture for me to feel any great empathy for those two characters plights. Now Markus his journey was genuinely heart warming and heart breaking. Some of those marching/protest scenes had real emotional gravitas.

Remember the Star Trek TNG episode about Data's trial about his right for self-determination? If you loved this episode, you will love this game.

This game is a masterpiece. Yes QTEs are annoying and a lot of people seem strangely triggered and melting their snowflakes about the story being a bit too "SJW" to their tastes while they grasp at straws trying to make parallels to current day events about whatever their fears are. As far as I'm concerned, it's their problem and their loss.

It sports a thought provoking story worthy of Asimov's legacy. If you think this is about current day whatever in your persecution of SJW fantasies and hallucinations, you seriously have issues and need to take LOTS of steps back from current day politics. You drank WAY TOO MUCH KOOL-AID and need to sober up and calm the heck down.

The story has nothing to do with current day events, it's GREAT anticipation sci-fi about AIs, Robots and how we're going to treat our creations when the time comes and they might develop more than what we thought they would, transcending their programming.

A well deserved 10, I'll be recommending this one warmly for years to come to my fellow gamer friends.

    Cheers!

Introduction: After multiple showings and demonstrations at E3 about the vast branching choice that Detroit: Become Human was going to offer, Quantic Dream latest game has finally come out. Will this choose your own adventure drama lives up to its E3 promises or will this game be thrown in the android scrap yard?

Story: This game follows three androids named Markus, Kara, and Connor. Markus story follows him starting a revolution to give the same rights to android as humans have. Kara has to protect a little girl that as to go on the run due to her abusive father. Last but not least, Connor is a prototype detective that is working on a case of why androids are suddenly having empathy and acting like humans. These stories eventually cross paths as more twist and turns unveil within the story. This story has a lot of good moment when playing as Connor or Kara but I always felt that Markus story and his line performance came off as a bit cheesy. Markus story is filled with clichés and moment that just feel a bit forced. With that being said, the story as a whole is engaging and fun for the whole 10 hour run time. You will get an interesting outlook on the story too if you decide to play it more than once with different choices, which I would highly recommend.

Gameplay: This game is your standard choose dialog adventure game with QTE moments thrown in for the action scenes. Normally, I despise QTE’s but in this game, they really work since characters can be killed off at almost any moment of the game, giving a sense of every encounter being intense. Most choices are meaningful due to the fact that the story can branch off in so many ways. Once every chapter is completed, you get to see a flow chart of all the choices you could have made and it really gives a sense of scope on how many options you do have in this game. My only problem with this is Markus choices don’t have much difference in outcome due to how integral his part is in the story. Even when killed off, he is just replaced with his female counterpart and the story continues without your involvement. His most important choice, if you keep him alive, is that he can choose to protest peacefully or violently. This is easily fixed due to the other 2/3 of the game not having this issue. The gameplay, for the most part, is top notch and has multiple paths for you to explore in multiple playthroughs.

Technical: I say this about almost every Sony game, but the statement still holds true. Top-notch graphics, the characters and the city of Detroit look so good, it was almost like watching a live action movie. A masterful soundtrack with a few forgettable songs here or there. No glitches or presentation issues present while playing. A technical masterpiece on every level.

Verdict: Detroit: Become Human definitely live up to the E3 demo for having crazy amounts of branch storylines. The game can be a bit cheesy but still offers a fun time through the world of Detroit. This game sets a new bar for choose your own adventure games and I hope to see something come along that can use the Detroit formula and make something even better.

    Pros
    +Engaging story
    +Many branching paths to take
    +Amazing on a Technical Level
    +Great Soundtrack

    Cons:
    -Markus story is cheesy
-Most of Markus choices don’t matter

I enjoyed this game for the most part and it really tied a heart gripping connection between the three main characters and the host of supporting ones.

Although this game is very well crafted and something I thoroughly enjoyed, it did have some small unfortunates. The game was well written and narrative was solid, however I felt gridlocked at points, sometimes I would choose an option not knowing that it would lead me the wrong direction. I also felt cornered from some parts of the game based on my actions, and while this is a major in game mechanics, I felt clouded as to the overall ending I was headed for.

Though is was sometimes a bit misleading, I still enjoyed the game. The tense dialogue decisions, relationships with other characters and the whole arc of the story ran really well. I loved the perspective of three very different characters. I loved how it broke the bounds of a human connection and roped in a real potential in a robotic future. Every niche and stone from the menu screen android to the wonderful map terrain was really captivating.

Quantic Dream knows how to make a game, they understand how to bound a deeper connection, how to punish for consequence abiding actions. Having played an earlier game of theirs in Heavy Rain I expected a solid standard of content and it smashed the standard of narrative driven games beyond a countable limit.

While I have some down points, they do not compare to the overall enjoyment I had. Execution was unparallel in a story sense and really dominated in giving gameplay as well as the control of the final ending.

Their previous games weren't awful by any means, but they always had parts in the game that wasn't necessary. I'm looking at you Native American part in Beyond Two Souls. Anyways Detroit Become Human is an excellent game with a gripping story from beginning to the end.
The story is truly amazing. You play as three different androids on their journeys throughout Detroit. First you have Connor who is an android working with the police hunting down androids who are gaining consciousness or as the game calls it becoming deviant. Then you have Kara who became deviant to protect a child that was being abused. Last is Markus whose journey is the one who will shape most of the story because he is the leader of the deviant group looking for rights and freedom. The story lets you shape it the way you want and will test your patients with humans which is so much harder than you'd think. The game really makes you hate the ever living **** out of them and if you are more forgiving than me then good on you, because I showed little mercy in this game towards the fleshy meat bags. The games story is moving and I found myself so engaged by then end I was sitting up in my chair rooting for the characters to succeed.
Those who aren't aware of how Quantic Dream games work they are much like Telltale games. This means walking around parts, very dialog heavy scenes that will shape the story, and quick time events FOR DAYS. That is it. If you are a person who hates dialog heavy games, and uses the phrase "why don't I just watch a movie". This game is not for you, and nothing I say will change your mind. The game is average length with a large replayability with how many branching parts that are available to the player. The quick time events can be hectic, but thankfully it isn't death if you mess one up so they aren't that bad. That being said I did get slightly frustrated at the responsiveness to them. Many times I definitely did the right press, but I guess it didn't register so I ended up getting hit. It didn't ruin my story it was just frustrating.
Overall the game is beautiful one of the best PS4 games out there. The story is gripping and just long enough to wrap up the story without seeming stretched. The gameplay isn't for everyone, but if you like story driven games you will being doing yourself a disservice missing this game. The multiple paths and choices make me want to pick up this game again and choose the path of peace vs my Magento choices I did. This game definitely hits a must BUY from me.

This game is an allegory for civil rights but it has such terrible execution behind it. and in many ways oversimplifies the struggle that actual civil rights leaders had to go through to overcome it. Despite the irony of the story revolving around robots, the characters feel incredibly real and gripping, with it being extremely difficult to not empathise with even side-characters. With the themes regarding segregation, prejudice and discrimination which draw heavily real world events, as well as fairly reasonable technologies that well and truly could be in our near future, it is a difficult task to not be immersed yet terrified of this world that Cage has created. Most of the issues with Cage's previous games, such as unneeded interactions, gratuitous nudity, and unbelievable characters, have been ironed out, which make it a lot easier to become involved with the game and the characters. The game's story would have been a 10/10 (in my eyes at least) if it were not for the endings, which without spoilers, appear very 'walking into the sunset'-esque. This is undoubtedly a result of the fact that the games story and ending is based on your decisions, but the quality of the endings do not seem at the same level of the rest of the story. Nevertheless, Cage has created an amazing world with characters that you can't help but love and root for in his arguably best work. Expand

Artistic masterpiece - narrative, graphics and soundtrack are some of the best ever made for a video game! Only negative is that some of the more linear chapters can get a bit tedious when going back for a 3rd or 4th play-through.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "This is our future." These opening lines set the stage for the paradigm of this interactive narrative experience. If one approaches this as a game they can win or lose, that there is a right and wrong way to approach a scenario, that there is some sort of "pro strat" or even superior narrative arc, then all of these are missing the point. David Cage has presented an interactive speculation based on the past of several nations, primarily the US, Canada, and Russia. Some people have accused this game of being "hamfisted" but I have a suspiscion that these people are uncomfortable with real world issues invading their gaming "safe space" where they do not have to interact with greater society. Some may also feel that some issues may be taboo to discuss in an interactive form as someone might choose to interact with the topic in a way they disagree with, perhaps most notable whether to take a violent or peaceful approach to protesting. People should explore all these avenues. That being said, I feel that focusing on the Markus storyline, the freedom fighter/liberator character, is missing a massive angle of the story.

"You can't kill me: I'm not alive." Has the story of an android hunting deviant androids been done before? Of course! This is not new territory. However, the variety of choices and motivations for HK800 unit Connor to accomplish its mission or deviate are staggering, and his relationship with Hank is everything you could ask from a hard-boiled disillusioned vet being partnered with the by-the-books rookie you could ask for, but with a variety of additional facets brought to bear. How does a human react when his partner dies, and comes back the next day as if it was only a slight inconvenience? How does an android react when it experiences death through a mindlink, but without the normal software corrective measure to erase that experience? Especially one who believes it can't be killed, that it can't die because "I'm not alive." One who is confronted time and again by androids who state they ARE alive contrary to what your experience with dying and coming back may tell you. I think that correctly experiencing Connor may require a level of understanding an unusual mindset that some players may not grasp, as they may try to play it as too human from the get go rather than accepting the character as presented which continually insists on its inhumanity. Try playing Connor according to Asimov's 3 laws of robotics and try and fins the point where it needs to Deviate as opposed to you the player foisting your humanity upon Connor due to your discomfort. I think it will give you a genuine experience.

"I thought..... I was alive." "I'm scared! I want to live... I'm begging you" If you haven't ever seen the Kara tech demo from 2012, then you are missing a large piece of the narrative puzzle. It's included as a bonus feature in the extras, but you can find it on YouTube under "Kara Tech Demo" and it is the seed from which the Detroit Become Human has sprouted. The story of Kara is emotiinally charged and brings a lot of the same survival feelings of TellTale's Walking Dead's first story in which a young girl is cared for by an circumstantially adoptive parent. Kara presented me with the hardest choices as I had to balance survival with Alice's reactions. For example: In a very early choice, after being on the run, Kara has a choice to steal clothing in order to pass as human and get something draw and warm for Alice. However, Alice insists that stealing is wrong. At this point you must make a choice between something practical and maintaining Alice's innocence. And this is often the dillemma with Kara: can you survive and maintain Alice's happiness? Will Kara's motherly instincts prioritize protection oe nurturing? You can even choose that Kara is essentially only protecting Alice due to her programming, though only recommend that as a narrative exercise since it's kind of depressing.

But, this experience is not perfect. One of the main focuses is on replaying the game to get a full experience, and there are several scenes where choice is very limited or inconsequential. While all scenes are exceptional on fhe first playthrough, on the second and third time there are several Markus scenes which are simply a chore to playthrough, and a couple of Kara and Connor parts I wanted to press fastforward on. There are also points you earn from completeing certain plot points, and I am sitting at 10000 points with nothing left to buy with them. And occassionally the dialogue options are ambiguous. Another small note is there are brief Marvel style epilogue scenes in the credits, and there needed to be more and a way to re-view them.

However, these flaws are small mars on this shiny gem of faceted storytelling. All of this and I have not even mentioned the gorgeous settings, exceptional music, and monumental acting from an incredible cast.

    Get it now!

I've been waiting for narrative game like this!! Thank you Quantic Dream for making this experience comes to real life. Visual, music, acting, story, branching system and all is superb! The only complain for me is the camera angle that abit annoying on certain scenes and that particular Jericho mini game that too repetitive. Will play again until i got all endings. 8/10.

This is currently the best David Cage game to ever be released. The writing is good (with the exceptions of some minor hiccups), the characters are interesting, and the soundtrack is memorable. If David Cage can make a game with writing of this caliber and some good gameplay alongside his solid writing, he would have a 10/10 game.

I found the game on the whole a phenomenal experience. While it was not like most games or game play, I went into playing this expecting what I got. An experience with choice driven plot and minimal free roam. We still have a long way to go before we can effectively combine the detail of a Quantic game, the immersive and hugely varied branching routes and include that in a cost effective but beautiful free roam game play experience.

I however enjoyed the minimal distraction of regular game play to see each choice and word I used severely change the outcome.

This game made me laugh, cry, angry, scream at my TV and panic. While far from perfect, for me it doesn't take away from the fact that I am looking forward to what Quantic will bring us next and how they'll improve even more.

There were a lot of breathtaking moments and choices you have to make in this game as well as replay ability after completing the game which kept the score up high and made this one of my favourite games of 2018

Keep in mind this game is not for everyone, because this doesnt have as much gameplay as other big titles such as God of War, but if you want a good story and a game with nice looking graphics but a different style of gameplay then other games then this is a game you should really look into and consider if its what you really want.

    Cons:
I dont really know what is bad about this game, the movement can be a bit clunky sometimes and the game can feel a bit dull at times but thats really it. What this game has done is spectacular and amazing, and i personally really enjoyed my time while playing this game, but just because i enjoyed my time doesnt mean you will enjoy your time with the game as well because this game is not for everyone and you should really research before purchasing and playing Detroit: Become Human

To me, "Detroit: Become Human" earns the title as one of the best PS4 exclusives, not only of 2018, but ever released. The theme, characters, direction, and storytelling fluently combines with a system of "build-up story choices" that only enhances its atmosphere and gameplay, as well.

But no other game comes close to the branching narrative that Quantic Dream have created. You see in the final chapter just how much can change, I didn't even get to see three sides of the narrative, because of the choices I had made both directly and indirectly. Other games see you mess up and the games go "Want another try?" where as Detroit forces you to play with those mistakes, this forces the player to be on edge at all times, you don't want to mess up and loose a character. Even by the end of the game I'm left looking back at my choices and going wow I wish I didn't do that because what felt right at the time had lead to this dramatic scene where I'm going to do something I really don't want to do but have to because I locked out any other possibilities due to my choices.

When it comes to this type of game you usually find that there isn't very much replay value but with Detroit you're left thinking what would happen if I done this, you want to go back and change everything fix what you done wrong the first time.

Detroit genuinely has the story of a film or series of TV shows (I feel Connor's story could fit rather well within a TV series) and I haven't been this engrossed in a story since Telltale's Walking Dead Season One. I'm truly excited to see where Quantic Dream goes next whether it's an expansion of the universe or another universe entirely, whatever it shall be, they have my money.

I truly recommend anyone that loves film or tv to pick up this game because it is a great watch/play. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea due to the style of the game being a narrative focus over the gameplay but it none the less is an incredible game.

Your choices can be the difference between life and death, failing and succeeding, even the ones that, at the time, have seemingly no significance. You may choose to go one way instead of the other and end up regretting it severely later down the line, but no matter what choices you make, the game manages to stay enjoyable throughout. If you don't like a decision you made, you can stick with it... or you can go back and re-do it completely to give you the outcome you desire.

I have played through Detroit and watched two streamers play through it, all resulting with different outcomes and each three of those outcomes has left me absolutely astonished or heart-broken.

The music, which has three different composers for the three main characters, is absolutely phenomenal, matching not only the individual situation, but the characters and their personalities completely. The creators of this game and of the musical score really know how to make you feel as if you are in the characters shoes, and that is something that is hard to do but they pulled it off excellently.

Detroit: Become Human is definitely one of my all time favorite games, and I hope that its creators come out with more amazing stuff in the future, especially if it is based in the same world as Detroit. But even if it isn't, if it makes me feel the way Detroit made me feel, it will definitely be a success.

Decisions are difficult to make (choices live in the gray area) and every choice you make has weight and meaning.

Heck, some people may even argue that it isn't a game, it's an interactive movie. What I think is a fact, however, is that it is an incredibly well crafted piece of work.
The story is split into three characters, each having very different themes and feeling. None are groundbreaking, but they are all genuinely solid stories, which weave into the others at various points in the game.
The game is primarily split into 3 different types: Choices, Point and Click, and Quicktime Events.
The number of meaningful choices available in this game is massive, and many of these choices will fundamentally change the story, as opposed to just putting a new coat of paint on the same story, as many games do. My first playthrough only took about 8 hours to complete, but left me feeling like there was so much left to experience, and so the next day I completed a second playthrough, with entirely different events happening.
The point and click sections are mainly used as a transition between the other two. I don't have much to say about those. They work fine, the movements are fluid.
The quicktime events are great. Some people dislike QTEs in videogames, but I found that in Detroit they allowed for much more cinematic, exciting action sequences that wouldn't be possible within the realms of standard gameplay. They are well utilised, with high quality stunt acting.
The music and acting is phenomenal. The game has 3 composers, one for each character, to give each a unique feel. The great acting by the main characters, as well as that by side characters, is brought to life through their use of motion capture, which allows them to capture every small twitch from the actors, allowing for much more subtle acting.
Detroit Become Human certainly has some minor flaws, and it won't be for everybody. For most, though, it is an extremely well crafted game which I personally loved. I would recommend it to anybody who has an interest in branching, personalised narratives

great story and the game gives you a emotional touch to the whole thing,
it's the best Quantic Dreams game yet.

Detroit: Become Human is a very interesting and emotional game. Reason why I think so is because I think in many ways this is going to be a part of our future with androids and the likes. Having played all of the games Quantic Dream have released in the past I knew perfectly well what to expect in terms of gameplay and the twist and turns their stories can have. I have to say on Detroit:Detroit: Become Human is a very interesting and emotional game. Reason why I think so is because I think in many ways this is going to be a part of our future with androids and the likes. Having played all of the games Quantic Dream have released in the past I knew perfectly well what to expect in terms of gameplay and the twist and turns their stories can have. I have to say on Detroit: Become Human they have reached a new milestone in storytelling and with how many different paths you can take with the different characters you play. It’s astonishing, gives you great replay value and you will want to go back and reply this game again as there will always be a “what if I did this instead?” scenario going on in your mind. Good thing there is chapter select where you take your last saved choices from the flowchart done before with you, meaning you can continue the game half-way in and redo your choices where you please.

There is a lot of choices that will make you think more than once due to the morality and ethnicity, it isn’t easy choices and the fact some of them have big consequences later on makes it very emotional. Hell sometimes you even look at yourself and think “damn is this the kind of person I would be in this scenario?”. When a game does that I think it has left a big impact, which Detroit: Become Human has as it was intended too. It’s beautiful, got a story that will have you on the hook and superb voice acting. Gameplay wise games of this nature are never something you will remember but these games were always made with the storytelling in mind.

All in all I think this is the best game from Quantic Dream yet. Better visuals, audio, fine-tuned gameplay and an even more gripping story than their old games (which were good too mind you). For fans of these kind of games this is a must play and if you haven’t played any of Quantic Dream (or Telltale Games) games before this would be a perfect place to start.

    Pros

The flowchart makes it easy for you to know where you want to backtrack.
    Really interesting story.

    Cons

The gameplay is always a bit boring in these type of games.
Sometimes the choices you could make weren’t really clear (as in you choose something you thought meant doing something else).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have really enjoyed the game, its fun and the story was most of the time emotional (Yea, I have cried a little bit) and the music was AWESOME!!

And I was happy to see a happy ending for everyone.

The only downside for me is the story is short and I was hoping for more! and I miss Chloe!!

For what this is, it is a great "game". Replay-ability is just immerse. Plot is great, characters are even better. Your decisions really matter. What else one can want from "interactive movie"

Great game.Awesome story and good characters. Story depends on choices you make,so you must focus on what are you doing. First choice based game i ever played and i must say that i enjoyed it from start to end. Game is really looking good aswell. Only thing that i dont like about it is quick time events, but story and choices you make are what this game is all about.

This game is great because when you end it, you want to start all over again just to see what if you decided to do a different thing... that's just amazing for me.

Good emotional story. Good graphics.
Your choices make a big difference.
    Many possible endings.

Unfortunately, the controls are only mediocre.

Good game. Unlike previous games in this studio, there really is a bunch of different endings for each character and people who surround them. I went through many times in order to find out how the story would have developed, if I chose this place. The only problem on the PC is disgusting optimization. Well, the game itself is both excellent in terms of gameplay and plot.

A really good game! I admit that is not the kind of game I prefer, but this is really special!! Story,gameplay,graphics.... all is perfect. The characters are strong, and playing the game, you start to love them! I've just finished the story for the first time, and I think, I'll restart it in few days.

This game got an interesting story, very enjoyable to play.
The Graphics were Extremely good, and the controllers were surprisingly easy to figure out for a gamer that usually plays on a PC and not a PS4.
Not many games can challenge this game in its story engagements, and overall gameplay experience. "10/10 – Amazing A game-changer, or remarkable in some way. I enthusiastically

Detroit: Become Human delivers a story with a ton of possible choices, and a lot of questions for a player to bear afterward. If you like it when games make you think about them after you play them, this is the game for you. Stunning visuals and music score, make you forget about some weaker points of the game. But all in all, it is an enjoyable experience you should not miss.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
