    I truly was moved. The three likable characters that you play as all have unique stories with even the side characters being amazing as well. The graphics and concept are great. the cast is incredible and likable this is the best quantic dream game yet. There are so many possibility's and choices sometime they can be fatal resulting in a characters death and so many different endings forI truly was moved.     This game is really fantastic and imo may be the peak of this genre.

    It's absolutely jarring comparing this to Heavy Rain. Obviously not just with the much, much better visuals. But in terms of everything. A fantastic and compelling story, great voice acting, and mostly stellar animations. Everything wrong with every other David Cage game is gone here.     Arguably one of the best games in the choice genre for choices mattering. Interesting world of androids which make the uncanny valley nature of these games actually work given all the characters are robots. Has all the usualy david cage issues of awkard dialogue and weird character development but again works better than usualy given the characters android status.     The game met my expectations. It correctly touches on the subject of androids as members of society. It puts emotional pressure on the player for his decisions. The game has a wide base of solutions, options and endings. It does not have an open world, but the content that the creators leave us in specific locations is extremely sufficient. I recommend, it's worth it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Its taken me a while to get round to this game as its been part of my backlog for 2 plus years now but as with many other games, lockdown has allowed me to finally play through it.

    This is an odd game to review due to the nature of the 'chose your own adventure' storytelling but I will try my best! During my playthrough I went in entirely blind and did not go back on any choices made until I saw the credits role for the first time. This is how the game suggests you should play and I would definitely have to agree. It does a great job at making you care for the characters and is constantly reminding you that every choice you make is extremely important. As is the case with most games that follow this infrastructure many endings can leave you feeling unsatisfied however if you find yourself actively wanting to go back and re-attempt areas in order to achieve a better outcome for the characters. If this happens to you as it did me it will become abundantly clear that the game has made you attached to these characters. You actually care what happens to them and want a happy ending for them all though I still would have liked it if some of the 'bad' endings felt more fulfilling.

    The game follows 3 main characters, Markus, Connor and Kara. Throughout the game you follow them one at a time in a chapter style format. I was surprised as to how long it took for any of the characters to interact with each other though it did mean that adequate time was provided to build up these characters backstories and personalities before throwing them into a sort of crossover event. This meant that when they finally did meet it felt more rewarding. Think Avengers meeting Guardians of the Galaxy compared to Rey meeting Po in The Last Jedi. The first has a brilliant 'feel good' affect on the audience as these characters have been followed individually beforehand through several movies and it feels like less of an afterthought and more of a planned meeting. The second feels like purely an afterthought. Like the director suddenly realised at the last minute that these characters hadn't me yet. Personally for me Detroit falls close to Marvel's level of satisfaction.

    While there are over 80+ ways the story can go it is still obvious that the story will, for the most part, follow the same structure assuming you don't allow characters to die. Following these stories was quiet the emotional roller-coaster and my opinions on each of the characters journeys reflected this as I was constantly changing which one I was most invested in. At the beginning of my playthrough Kara's story had me hooked the most however, by the end of the game I found her story overall to be the weakest of the 3. One major development of her story was when the little girl Alice was revealed to be an android. Personally I wasn't a fan of this 'revelation' as I felt it was unnecessary and created plot holes that were never answered and that didn't have to exist in the first place. Connors story on the other hand started slow however ended up being my favourite out of the three weather I chose to keep him deviant or not. I also enjoyed the larger connection of his and Markus' stories when compared to Kara. It was another reason as to why I felt her story began to lose steam during the last third of the game as it really had no where else to go and surprisingly has a more distant role in the overall story. Towards the end it felt more 'sidequesty' and as a result I thought it dragged on.

    Its worth noting a gameplay element that I can't ignore as it got on my nerves a number of times despite how trivial it may seem. The scanning feature when exploring an area that highlights points of interest and brings up the objective menus is horribly implemented as the game grinds to a stop and everything freezes whenever it is opened. This really started to get on my nerves during my 20 hour playthrough as it slowed down a game that's already relatively slow in the gameplay department due to the movement speed of all three characters. It baffles me how this stayed in the game as to me there is no logical explanation for this to happen and if anything just demotivates you to explore the environments for clues that can unlock completely new story lines.

    I wanted to quickly touch on the writing. In a game with this many possible paths to take I would expect some to be better written and others to have a noticeable dip in quality however, with all the routes I experienced I never found one to be worse than another. When it came to the writing of the characters they stayed consistent throughout and because of this the experience felt a lot more authentic.

    Overall I really enjoyed my time with Detroit: Become Human and the ideas it presents within its 3 interlinked stories. It may be a pre-existing way of story telling however I would say Detroit nails the execution and deserves more recognition as one of the PS4's stand out titles    … Expand

    The story is phenomenal in this game, I really started caring for the characters and I'm glad I was able to get the best ending. I would recommend multiple playthroughs.
    The gameplay and mechanics are good too, there are fixed camera angles and not much interesting things to interact with but it is necessary for this genre and type of game.
    Overall, very good.

The characters and the story are all amazing, even if it sometimes feel weird due to the nature of choice your own story games. Overall, Detroit: Become Human is one of the best games of this genre.

There is a lot of story writing errors though, for examples, not explaining what rA9 is. I think the writer left it to the players to decide what it could be, but that just ends up leaving many confused. Also, Alice was a android the whole time was a good idea, but the writer made a few mistakes on details that didn't make sense on why Alice did human things like eat and need sleep if she was an android. But a handful of errors does not takeaway the fact that as a whole, Detroit is a great game. My favorite parts are when you are Connor, I love to solve mysteries and anyone who is a fan of mysteries might find these chapters to be a lot of fun. Replay value for me was slim, I got bored trying to replay the game being a violent deviant since most of the story is the same, just different endings per chapter. I wish there was a skip option for any cutscenes that you've done before. I loved heavy rain and any fans of that game will like this one as well. Graphics are good and will age well overtime unlike heavy rain and beyond two souls. Can't wait to see the future games of Quantic Dreams… Expand

    The gameplay is mostly pressing the correct buttons but the cutscenes and the choices you make and how they impact the story and characters are enjoyable and there is a ton of endings too making players play the game again while doing different choices and the game's graphics are fantastic definitely a must-play for both ps4 and pc users

You won't get the full experience just by playing through it once. This is one of the best graphically great looking games during the PS4 console generation. One missing thing ( ATTENTION imho) is: during gameplay I didn’t notice any aggressive humans behavior directed to other humans (ok some “human” characters had small verbal altercations, but nothing more). I mean there is no hate to any social group, no “race” problems and etc. It seems like people can feel animosity only to droids. In world of Detroit all people’s conflicts were vanished. I wish people in Detroit were more alive. Rest in piece Humanity.… Expand

    As a person who mostly plays multiplayer shooters all the time, this story felt really different. The fact that every decision could impact the ending of the whole story really puts more pressure on the decisions you make. Though most of the game is just pushing and pulling your joystick in weird ways and swiping through magazines with the touchpad, this game was a nice change.     Detroit is a really good game. I love that it is a pure story game. The fact that your choices matter this much is also amazing. The game was written too well. The 3 different stories that come together in the end are amazing. I loved the protagonists as i felt sorry for them, i really got to understand them and their emotions.

    Das Spiel ist ein absolutes Kunstwerk. Schwierige moralische Entscheidungen müssen unter Zeitdruck getroffen werden, während sich Story und Charaktere tiefgründig entfalten. Dieses Spiel regt zum Nachdenken über wichtige Themen an und wird den Spielenden sehr lange im Gedächtnis bleiben (8/10).

    I really enjoyed my experience with this game. It’s unique and gripping. I think anyone could easily enjoy this and leave satisfied once the credits start rolling.

    Un jeu avec une incroyable narration, un univers futuriste incroyablement réaliste, tout les personnages sont attachant et les différents choix ont de réels conséquence sur les fins possibles.
    Le seul bémol est le gameplay quasi inexistant mail il est de moindre importance sur ce jeu.

    The story is one of the best I've played in years and the the option to easily go back and chose a different option make the game incredibly repayable. The graphics are near lifelike and combined with the brilliant music it just make the game feel epic

    This is a really great game. The story is wonderful, the graphics are beautiful, and I think this is one of the greatest games that could've been made with this story.

    Great story and characters. What else is there to say? It’s pretty much an interactive movie and this is fine since Quantic Dream is known for games like this. Better than Heavy Rain and Fahrenheit for sure

    I do recommend this game.

    Graphically this game looks beautiful and it runs well the gameplay is fun for an interactive movie style of game with the quicklime event action sequences and plethora of decisions you make. The 3 characters you focus on all have very interesting showing different sides of the androids gaining consciousness and deviant issue. The customizability in the story    I do recommend this game.

You can't possibly expect us to do different routes in the flowchart if we have to watch the same scenes over again. Virtue's last reward executed this system perfectly many years ago.     I have played all of Quantic Dreams games and I do like what David Cage is trying to do, but I feel like he did his best game with Heavy Rain and that the games after that have not been as great. Detroit: Become Human is really pretty, especially the effects like the rain and snow on characters are stunning. But under the pretty surface there is extremely little substance in regards to gameplay, and the little that is there often feels contrived and even unnecessary. Personally I don't feel any more immersed by having to swing my controller around in the air, it is just really annoying. The flow chart is a nice touch though where you can compare your decisions to others and see paths you might not have taken and it can be fun to go back to see how you can do things different to unlock new paths etc. Cage should drop all the stupid controller manipulations you have to do, it just looks stupid when you are in a "freezed cutscene" and have to move the analog stick in some strange angle to do something and can pause in the middle of the movement. It serves no purpose other than being annoying. What has always been interesting in these games are the choices you have to make and the branching paths etc. We don't need to sit and shake our controllers in the air to enjoy that.

    The biggest problem with the game though for me, despite the really interesting topic of AI and its implications on the future, something I have always been very interested in, the whole story in Detroit feels really bland, predictable, propagandistic and just plain uninteresting, especially the part with Marcus. It is also disapointing that Cage seems to have some vapid SJW tendencies, if you come across any white males in the games you should do good to be on your toes and be careful since they are most likely bad people (like in real life right), but if they are black the be trusted and are friendly. And when you can choose the black power fist as your symbol and chant "I have a dream" in the streets it becomes a bit too much obvious what all this is about.

    I never felt like I was on the edge of my seat with suspense, wondering what would happen next. The only sections that felt truly interesting was the sections with Connor (who is also by far the most interesting character in the game) who is the detective type. That really made me realize that this sort of game really fits so much better with a detective/crime setting where you are trying to solve some kind of murder mystery and I really hope the next game from Cage will be more of that where you have to investigate crime scenes, compare evidence and decide on what to do next in the case and what leads to follow and what people to suspect or investigate further. That could be truly interesting.    … Expand

Rather than entertaining, Detroit narattives may make you feel uncomfortable, annoyed, and depressed. It's not what I'm expecting from Detroit, I was expecting more of a sequel to Heavy Rains or similar to that in terms of story and narratives.

    To me Detroit is not a game that I would like to play for fun or enjoy in my free time. I had enough politics in my daily entertainment, all I want is to be free from it. Similar games like Heavy Rains and LA Noire are much superior in terms of story and satisfaction, guaranteed! (Heavy Rains focuses around the people involved in the criminal case, while LA Noire focuses on a very interesting cop).

    Save your money by renting the game or borrow it from your friend or wait for sales. Otherwise, you can always watch your favorite streamer or Youtube channel to see what it's all about. Also, there are many new games coming out this year that are far more fun and interesting and less about social politics and feeling involved.    … Expand

    The first chapter for Markus and Kara were boring, and the game had a few moments where the writing fell completely flat. But, the game was mostly well put together overall. The characters were memorable and super well voice acted. Everything technical wise was phenomenal. And overall I had a lot of fun, even though the ending I got was not what I wanted.

It's one of those games where the graphics and details really suck you in at first, and there are some intense moments that try to clutch at your heartstrings, but then later on the plot twists and bad writing hit and really suck the air out of its sails.

    The characters are really kind of flat, as much as Cage tries to give them some sort of personality, but they all basically come down to the embodiment of certain over-used tropes. At the end of the game there's a survey that asks if anything resonated with you in the game, and it's pretty telling that for the most part, most people did not. Myself included. I couldn't really feel connected to the characters. Maybe because deep down in my brain, I know that they're just machines? Or maybe because there really wasn't much depth to them. Either way, there was no emotional attachment there.

    The 'plot twist' where you find out that Alice is also an android instead of a human child really ruins any replayability of Kara's route for me, especially since so many of her tasks/actions revolve around keeping Alice safe/warm. An android looking out for another android is just the same as the rest of the game, but an android looking out for a human child is something that seems a little more touching and moving. Bad writing ruining things once again.

    The parts with Markus and 'liberty for androids' being so closely mirrored to the civil rights movement only made me cringe. So many parts of this game being torn out from other movies and TV shows made it... not so original. And some of the endings of the game where it just ends and the credits roll, feel super jarring.

    The only good thing about this game is the fact that Bryan Dechart (who plays Connor) is so into his role and so appreciative of the people who have made the game as big as it is. But I still can't give the game a higher score.    … Expand

There is a bit of exploration and light puzzles, but I mostly enjoyed the crime scene recreations. As always, your choices shape the game's story, both in subtle and big ways.

    Detroit has 3 protagonists: androids Connor, Markus and Kara. Markus is an android who rises up against humans and demands freedom for its kind, Connor investigates a case of various androids becoming self-aware, and Kara is a nobody whose story runs in parallel to that of Markus and Connor who come in direct conflict. Kara is the easiest of the 3 to get killed (I had the bad luck of doing it early and missed up on a 3rd of the game's total content), Connor can repeatedly die and come back during the story, while Markus can only get killed in the very end. You can always reload a specific save point and replay whatever part you want.

    Mechanically speaking, Detroit is David Cage's best work to-date. The game's story has many branches based on the player's choices (you can even see the diagram mid-game). Your choices have consequences where even main characters can get killed. Graphics, voice-acting and soundtrack are great. But the story itself is a disappointment. While there are some great moments and a few very powerful scenes, the overall plot is uninspired. David Cage poses the question of what an artificial being would be like and what humans would do if a race of robots became self-aware and rebeled, but dares not to fully explore this idea. As if Cage was afraid of going deep. In common with Beyond, when David Cage tries to write a big story with worldwide ramifications he kinda misses the point, whereas Heavy Rain's more personal kind of story was very focused and well executed. Maybe David Cage should have written Detroit's story in a more personal style.

    Still, Detroit: Become Human is a very enjoyable game. While Heavy Rain still has the better story, Detroit is Quantic Dream's best game. I hope they release another great game in the future.    … Expand

    Honestly, I am not a fan of fictional game but Detroit is interesting enough for me to try. I like the concept of the game but it got boring very quick for me. Story is good and interesting. Graphic is good and high quailty but the face looks very "Plastic" for me.

    Scenario: 4/6.
    At the beginning it was really interesting to play for all the characters, but closer to the end, the story line of Marcus ( and sometimes Karas) were geting pragmatic and monotonic.

Beyond Two Souls was the supernatural/ghost version of this genre, and then Until Dawn was the "survival horror" game. Detroit: Become Human feels like an extended episode of The Outer Limits, for better or for worse. There are some genuinely interesting characters and plot devices. There are also many cliche and over-the-top moments filled with cheesy, on-the-nose dialogue trees. The tone of the game feels a little pretentious at times. Different controversies are injected that parallel real-life social issues in very obvious ways. The game is enjoyable for what it attempts but I wouldn't say it's imperative for anyone to play. It's just something to jump into when you need a break from other gameplay styles. It's like turning on a bad sci-fi movie when you're bored and there's nothing else to watch, it keeps you interested enough to see what happens in the end.
    The game has many hilarious moments, both intentional and unintentional. They really want you to take the struggle of the androids seriously, which at times seems really sincere but other times feel like B-movie outtakes from a bad sci-fi. This game works on many levels but I think Quantic Dream needs to try another game genre. Heavy Rain took everyone by surprise because it felt fresh at the time, and now we've had three more spiritual successors that have imitated that game in almost every possible way. There are some new elements like the crime scene investigation that makes Detroit: Become Human stand out. It's just a little tiring to go through the same kinds of scenes with the same kinds of QTE's and the same kinds of dialogue options and decision trees in every single game they produce. It's very clear that David Cage is more of a film buff than a gamer. It would be better if he tried to reinvent the wheel instead of giving us carbon-copies of the tried-and-true formula every time.
    This is not a bad game by any stretch of the imagination. The graphics and soundtrack are incredible, and the voice acting is very convincing. It achieves what it sets out to accomplish, which is to provide an interactive-movie style game. I hope in the future though, we see a little more creativity from this developer in terms of actual gameplay. Give us a game that we can invest countless hours into and becomes truly engaging, not something that simply fills the gap in between triple-A releases.    … Expand

    Heavy Rain was a guilty pleasure of mine. Despite it's blatant flaws, I was sucked into the story and couldn't wait to find out where it was going. I have very similar feelings about Detroit: Become Human, however it's definitely an improvement over the former. The acting is fantastic and the characters are more fully-realized. That being said, the story goes from great melodrama to aHeavy Rain was a guilty pleasure of mine. Despite it's blatant flaws, I was sucked into the story and couldn't wait to find out where it was going.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well... this is very difficult for evaluating, despite I gave game above average score. First of all, negatives:
    - Story: While story is better then in Heavy Rain, its worse (much worse!) then in Beyond: Two Souls. When I played B:TS, it was very strong story with many embracing moments and player was capable to feel Jodie life, suffering, successes, fails and her struggle with life. Despite all efforts, I can not feel struggle in these androids. But its not about some philosophical point of view. I expected some plot twist, some great and unexpected subplot/plot that will change player point of view on whole game and story (for ex. Amanda AI trying enslave humanity and android rebellion is obstacle in way to success... yes, its bit matrix-like, but it could be good). I admit its much difficult to embrace and feel more then one character, but still. I think that story failed. When I completed B:TS I decided play it again, but now, I am more frustrated then thrilled. Many potential subplots were not used (Russia-US war?!)
    - Segmentation replay: While it is maybe one of greatest plus in my review, it is also not player-friendly, especially in long parts. But on first attempt, its not worse.
    - Graphic: I do not think there was much improvement since B:TS and we must take difference is between PS3 and PS4!
    - Cliché: Uprising oppressed, drunken and broken cop...

    Positives:
    + Actors and acting: While plot and story is weak, actors and their "acting" is fantastic! Many great and even my favourite actors (Clancy Brown). I know its computer imagined acting, but still, very good. Not mention that there are a lot of pretty female droids (North, android couple in Eden Club).
    + Some feelings: Well, cant denied that in some scenes, it was strong and I feel something, but thats all.
    + Segmentation replay: Great advancement in gameplay technologies within this genre! It could be better created, but its very good.
    + Analysis system: Another great gameplay advancement with many possibilities. It was one of very few situation when I was completely interested.

    Summary:
    Its up to you to buy it. My feelings are very mixed, but because of actors, analysis system and David Cage himself, I am more favorable and giving 7 of 10 score. I can find parallel in the Mass Effect: Andromeda (where was also Clancy Brown...), weaker successor of great predecessors.    … Expand

    Sidenote: I personally wouldn't give this game more than a 7.5. Granted I've only gotten one ending so far so MAYBE my opinion can change but to be completely honest, there just weren't very many characters I cared about. In a game like this, you are shooting yourself in the foot to have anything off about your story considering the entirety of your game is storytelling. And like typical QD fashion, there's a number of unrealistic interactions, lack of explanations regarding certain character motivations, and extremely polar quality voice acting (ranging from EXCELLENT to just awkward and flat).

    I won't spoil anything but in my story branch, there was a twist that they built it up to seem like a big deal but because there were no hints or lead up and they just sorta spring it on you and move the story forward like nothing happened, I felt nothing.

    Gameplay is smoother than it's ever been in a QD game but still stiff. It pissed me off how many object interactions I missed because I wasn't able to line the character's body up the right way to do so. Like if something is sitting on a table, why do I have to walk all the way to the front side of the table to pick it up?? Just grab the damn thing like a regular person! They really do make you feel like a stiff android when you move around. UGH!

    Also did not like how there were a number of NON-TIMED sections that were secretly timed. Which stung me more times than I was comfortable with when I assumed I had time to kill and would read the human magazines only to have the sequence move forward shortly after I put it down -- BEFORE I was able to investigate like half a room.     Overall, (while it is FUNCTIONALLY their best game) in terms of story it only beats out Beyond Two Souls. To me, Heavy Rain and Indigo Prophecy were still more compelling so it does feel like QC is moving backwards. There were literally times I took a break out of boredom and continuing sometimes like punching the clock before sitting down to do work at the office.     A lot of cliches, plot holes and silly things that just don't let you take most of the story seriously. As an example: singing in front of police. I'm sorry, I laughed. Games that rely a lot on dialogs must be written very good, I felt like there are only few moments in the game that I would like to "rewatch". In the year when there is rise of cyberpunk and A.I. shows and movies, you have to be very impressive to not look like a bunch of recycled ideas.

    Out of all 3 main characters relationships with their companions the only one what doesn't feel forced or annoying is Connor and Hank (if you go buddy route). The chemistry, the humor, the dialogs, everything fells more superior to the others just like Connor character himself. Doesn't surprise me he is fan favourite. The variety of behaviour and outcomes for Connor is the most interesting and versatile. Such a shame creators didn't really make enough of interactions between Kara, Markus and Connor. Especially the last two, considering how story tries to make them opposite to each other.

    I can't share the love for Kara. Her story feels a bit off. Connor and Markus on the other hand directly affect on the main plot. Yes, sometimes there should be more grounded story line to see more sides, but Kara doesn't progress and change as a character at all, her motives stay the same. You don't have a choice but to keep the same narrative with her. The cliffhanger that people like to praise is very easy to predict and it doesn't affect the story at all.

    The other major problem for me it's how game feels empty after you finish it and cool down a day later. There are nothing to discuss really. No major twist that make you go and debate with others, not theories what could expand the lore more. The main question is never answered and even worse it dies down right after the other character plot became the main focus and player has to deal with it. I feel like if it was explored more Detroit could be really impactful and strong plot wise.
    As a fan of sci-fi and just a geek I wasn't satisfied with the world that Detroit: Become Human offers to me, most importantly it offers nothing new. So much potential gone to waste and that what saddens me. Game just feels like there are only two views: black and white. No middle ground or gray area. It's really easy to criticize this game, honestly. And you don't have to be a hater for it.

    But there are undeniable good things that make Detroit enjoyable and entertaining, at least for a while. Visually it looks stunning and may has the most realistic facial animation, thank to motion capture. Sometimes it make you forget all you see is not a movie. The cast is really good and I like when I can recognize only few familiar faces in it. The soundtrack has some strong moments, sometimes a little repetitive, but overall - good. Amount of paths what story can go, mostly in little details. I thinks Detroit is the first game that has so many possible outcomes for player, just wish the writing was better.

    Detroit: Become Human is heavily cinematic and I must admit some scenes are very nice. The junkyard scene is probably the most darkest and cyberpunkish is the game, I liked Terminator reference. The final kiss scene may feel melodramatic, but surprisingly i found it some sort of beautiful. When girl was riding the carousel in park, two androids in love trying to escape in rain (heavy Blade runner reference). And again: Connor and Hank chemistry makes it all. But it's esy to miss these scenes if your playthrough goes in different way. That's why to have a good script overall and not just a pieces of it is necessity.

    Should you play it? Totally. Does it stays in your mind after you finish it? No. But If you are undemanding and unsophisticated person who never explored other works in the same category you probably will be blown away. Well, sadly I wasn't.

    Nice graphics, sometimes well-written story, but altogether it's very ideology-driven, it sometimes almost feels that it was written by androids with a political agenda.

    Thematically and plot-wise, Detroit: Become Human is a little 'Blade Runner' and a lot of 'Alien Nation': replace the latter's alien "newcomers" with androids, and you've got essentially the same story. Unfortunately said story suffers from some of the same weaknesses that 1988 film did (check out Roger Ebert's review for some ideas): some intriguing ideas, but it's essentially still just a police procedural.

    Of course, both this game and 'Nation' (as well as the other countless works they both crib from) are parables for the minority and immigration issues that trouble not just the US today but the entire world since the beginning of civilization, as well as other android-y themes that are now commonplace: androids are inferior and the're stealing our jobs; no, they deserve to be treated as equals; they have the same potential for creativity and emotion as the humans, if not moreso; what does it even mean to be human? and so forth.

    Visuals are top-notch. Graphics represent the current state of the art in photo-realistic realtime rendering; no complaints here. Unfortunately the excellent visual presentation only makes the game's other flaws stand out that much more. On the gameplay mechanic side, these include clunky character movement and a finicky camera system. The hunt, peck, and line-up-the-icons-for-the-clues mechanic feels routine and minigame-y and can break the immersion of the narrative.

    More glaring, however, are the game's story elements, which are the essence of 'Detroit.' Characters, both human and android, are all one-dimensional Hollywood caricatures and stereotypes; it's either love the androids or smash them to pieces, with few shades of grey in between. Given the ambitious scope of this game, the androids deserve deeper introspection: should they be treated as equals, or are they appliances and need to be controlled, and where is the middle ground? Instead, we get cliches like jealous sons and abusive druggie dads; danger situations feel contrived and some plot holes border on the absurd. Primarily, producing a mass-market android without multiple fail-safes to shut it off before it starts murdering you and your loved ones - regardless of any "glitch" that overrides their original programming - is negligence tantamount to selling a smart car without safety belts or airbags; for a game with Detroit in the title, you get the feeling a lot of somebodies should know better.

    Further, the game's main conceit of actually "being" an android - primarily the choices you make as one, and the consequences those hold - kind of falls flat at times. You're usually presented with a few choices at any given point, but they're often so vague and detached from what your android actually does that you feel more like a voice in its head giving suggestions than actually becoming one with it. And no matter what choice you make, there's always this "all roads lead to Rome" vibe to it; sometimes you don't even have a real choice, it's just "push the button to proceed."

    But much of this is just nit-picking. While maybe as a Hollywood film it would feel like yet another hackneyed "what is human" story, for a video game it's an admirable effort, and it's definitely got the triple-A Hollywood-level visuals to boot. Just don't expect anything too profound, and you can have a fun time with it. Oh, and don't give the androids any sour milk.

    Two-to-three out of four-to-five stars, depending on your mood. Worth a look if the idea sparks your interest.    … Expand

    Lo que se puede esperar de esta compañía, evidentemente corrigieron los errores cometidos en beyond2souls, que es un buen juego pero narrativamente bastante lineal, y nos dan muchiiiiisimas posibilidades a la hora de generar una historia completamente diferente en casa ronda. Totalmente recomendable si te gustan este tipo de juegos tipo "elige tu propia aventura"

Considering that I am writing this review almost one year after the game's initial release, I hope that readers acknowledge that I have a great deal of affection and love for Detroit Become Human. The idea about androids developing free will and rising up against humanity for me is awesome. With Kara and Connor (my favourite) storylines, you get to explore moral concepts like what does it mean to be a living being or can an android build real relationships with humans. The game grants you the flexibility to make your own moral choices about these issues which I very much appreciated.

    What I hate about this game is everything that follows;
    The game never addresses the legitimate concerns of Androids developing free will and attacking their creators. In almost every encounter with a deviant, you are told how they were 'forced' to murder someone with their justification ranging from acceptable to **** ridiculous. (In my first initial play-through, my Markus ends up killing a bunch of people yet somehow I still managed to have an indifferent public opinion on Androids). This gets even worse when characters you begin to care about stop acting reasonable just so that the plot can progress. (I kill the cops in my play-through with Markus and Hank still wants to stop Connor from killing him because he "was wrong about deviants"). Androids are smarter than humans, they are more powerful, more efficient, etc. These concerns never get addressed in any storyline and this drives me insane. Also, sometimes the games response to my actions do not make sense. There is one point in the story where you are Connor and you're hunting down two deviant strippers. The couple is trying to escape (and also arguably trying to kill you and Hank). The moment you gain the upper hand and take the option to kill them, you get chastised for it by Hank as if they weren't trying to drive a screwdriver into your head. There are choices in this game that are very much situational and if you step out of line from a clear consistent pattern of behaviour when making decisions, your story and the characters in them will stop making sense.

    Finally, Markus's story is just poorly written. His reason for becoming deviant is terrible (hey, this guy keeps pushing, thats not okay...rebel against humans, slavery is bad!) And when he arrives at the deviant hideout, he automatically becomes their leader. I guess maybe because he just looks like your typical protagonist. You can murder a large number of humans in his storyline and still have people love you so long as if you continue to make the pacifist decisions in regards to everything else.

    So, in the end I enjoyed Detroit Become Human. There are gaps of logical with everyone's storyline, (Kara the least, Markus the most) but all are still serviceable and can keep you entertained. I wish this game offered more in terms of quality in story writing but what you get is good enough to get you through until the end.    … Expand

    Not a big fan of intaractive-movie games,but it is okay im not enjoyed the gameplay,but narrative is the best part of this game,but i recommend it to play.

    Its a fun experience. Im not a huge fan of the QDs games, but the plot is solid and most of the characters arcs are really well done.
    Sadly, is not my type of game, but i can see the effort put in this title. I hope we can see more of this in the next QDs project.

    Gorgeous visuals, smooth gameplay and excellent character development. It was an enjoyable 10-12 hour play through. The story however became too big for its own self and undermined the excellent character development in the end. Wouldn't recommend paying full price but worth a look on Playstation Plus Collection.

    Detroit: Become Human delivers a story with a ton of possible choices, and a lot of questions for a player to bear afterward. If you like it when games make you think about them after you play them, this is the game for you. Stunning visuals and music score, make you forget about some weaker points of the game. But all in all, it is an enjoyable experience you should not miss.

    Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

    Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
