The most original game I’ve ever played. The creators of this game should be so damn proud. Hopefully other game makers wilt take notice and stop making such boring, predictable games. This game was amazing so many times throughout the game. Looking forward to more games from them. 10/10

The list is long. I've almost lost hope I will find an exciting and memorable game to play. The "Detroit: Become Human" has been the first game from Quantic Dream I've played. Strangely enough, I've never heard about David Cage's games before, probably because I'm fan of PC and my family is a fan of XBOX. So, it's was a completely new experience on many levels. I have immediately fallen in love with this game. The branching of the story is a pure genius and something that had never been done before. Yes, story based games aren't new, but the fact remains that the sheer number of different endings is a novelty. It doesn't only mean the gamer gets different ending of a whole story. It means that we get a whole alternative stories from start to finish. It's like fanfiction on steroids with thousands of "ifs". The story itself is gripping and emotional, characters are very likeable, graphics and music are simply stunning, and overall playing is fun as hell. There are exploration, chasing and fleeing parts when we have full control of a character, there are also fights with QTE and of course parts when we need to make tons of decisions. For someone who doesn't like or even hate action games (I call it "just pressing buttons, hoping kill someone"), that's the best game to play. There's a lot of adventure, but the most important thing you need is your brain and wits, not buttons (but that doesn't mean you can't loose a fight if you are slow :D). There's definitely a room to improve, I will never question that. No game is perfect. But at this point of time it can't be better. Expand

What I mean is that I can find only one adult human that I can like and the game makes it too clear that the androids are capable of experiencing suffering caused by their owners. It doesn't help that they fight their programming for self-preservation to help people in need. They aren't "robots", they're "different people".

Not a typical game by any chance, if you are on the fence, think of your enjoyment of a Tell Tales Game, multiply the quality x10 and you have Detroit: Become Human. If you don't like story heavy games with non-traditional game play this might not be the game for you, however for what it is, it is the best of it's kind ever composed in the video game format.

This game heavily focuses on the use of choice based conversations that will heavily sway the outcome of each conversation ultimately leading to multiple different outcomes not seen on this scale before. If you like or don't mind quick-time events (maybe because you're actually good at them) then you will love Detroit. There is nothing stopping you from playing one of the best story driven experiences of the year.

The characters are extremely likable and the performances by their actors are phenomenal. It doesn't have a lot of game play mechanics, but it truly is great if you like Telltale style games. And for once, there is no illusion of choice. There were minor choices I had made that literally came back to bite me in the ass later. It has so many branching paths and lives up to the "actions have consequences" trope.

Don't listen to anyone bashing this game for being an "interactive movie". Detroit is a great game that will provide you hours upon hours of replay value, and my game of the year.

You don't do much, mostly you just walk around talk to people, have some QTE-s and make decisions that have far reaching consequences. That's all you're going to get from this game.

The story is decent enough, although nothing extra special (a bit clichéd sometimes), and they missed a few high balls that could have taken the story to different places in my opinion.
All in all the presentation is fantastic (for a ps4 game) and the characters are interesting and diverse enough to keep your attention for the relatively short (10-15 hour - depending on your choices) runtime.
The game is incredibly polished and it clearly shows how much care was taken creating it.
Once again if this is not your style of game you will probably give it a 1-2, but if it is then you will probably end up loving it and give it a 9-10. That's why you will see a lot of conflicting reviews here.

If you are looking for a game with amazing gameplay, this is not it. You do not play this game for the gameplay, you play it for the story and the characters. The three protagonists; Connor, Kara, and Markus are all very interesting and have great stories. Some of the games greatest strengths are how well it fleshes out the story of its world, Detroit, and how it presents the city. The presentation of this game is on another level. The cinematography, the graphics and facial detail on all the character models are some of the best in gaming. Where the game really shines though is in its choices and branching storylines. The game has an enormous range of choices and outcomes, meaning you will most likely have a very different experience from other players. There are multiple endings, you can save all the characters, let them all die, or any combination in between. Its greatest weakness is in some of its endings. Odds are if you get one of the bad endings, you will not be satisfied with it. But thats okay, because the game is designed for you to replay it and make different choices to see how things could have played out differently. If you achieve one of the good endings, the story is much more rewarding and satisfying. If you expect something else, you clearly haven't been paying attention to David Cage's previous games and how they work.
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this game from start to finish. I grew so attached to the characters that I literally cried with joy and relief at the end when I managed to squeeze in a save for two of my characters.
I would also like to say that I just love stories that revolve around AI, so I may be biased for the story's game, but I for one think it was a nice story, not necessarily never told before, but definitely told in an exciting and captivating way.
Although, I would like to add that a few parts I saw coming from a mile away.
It's great that you have the flowchart and you can revisit the chapters to try and unlock all possible branches, and make all the different decisions and see how they would have panned out.
One little gripe I do have with the game is that 2-3 times during the game, I made a certain dialogue choice that totally didn't go the way I thought it would based on the name of the option. And this can be a bit bothersome because it can screw your playstyle up a bit and since I didn't want to replay chapters to min/max my game I had to stick with those poor choices.

In terms of the story subject, if you are bothered by messages related to a certain group being free and receiving equal rights, then this game is not for you. If you are bothered by opinions different from yours, this game is not for you.

The visuals are just beautiful and stunning.

All in all. I'd definitely recommend this game for people that like to get involved in the story.
Most definitely, people that liked David Cage's previous games, should play this.
I recommend this people to people that like their endings to be decided by the actions they take throughout the game.
I do not recommend this game for people that get bored by QTEs and want some other kind of meaningful gameplay.

I don't know what's going on with David Cage and all the negative reviews about him, but I'm having a great time with Detroit. Granted; this is my first time playing a game like this. I feel Detroit is close to a 9, but decided to 10 to counter balance against all the auto negative reviews on here.

The story may be generic as a Si-Fi, but the experience is really good.
All choices do have real impact, more or less, there are more than one ending.
But there is something I don't like, it's that many story branch depends on your failure, and I guess most player won't really aim at that.

Probably the best work David Cage has done yet. Besides some pacing issues it has a very good run time with a story while clique is gripping enough to enjoy throughout and with branching decisions that do have an effect on the story, it is money well spent.

    Pros:
-Gripping story -Choices with heavy consequences, and not just in the final chapter -Stunning visuals and animations -Great voiceover and music -Intriguing main characters (well except maybe Marcus ) Cons: -Camera is surprisingly atrocious. I had to wrestle with it every time I needed to get a better look around.

To me, it's one of the deepest single-player and story based game I have played in a long time and I am grateful for this experience. Regarding the decisions you are given, I have to say that they are not always 100% clear and I sometimes did not quite guess right what the game wants to achieve with some of the options. Gameplay and camera also could have been better which is why I only give 9 points from 10, but overall i am very excited and would not mind to witness a continuation of the Detroit universe. Even on the "adept" difficulty, button combos rarely exceeded three buttons pressed in tandem. Interactive objects are rarely hidden too well, and light exploration reveals much of what there is to see.

    Graphics - GOOOOOOOORGEOUS

Sound - Excellent use of ambient noise, coupled with some stellar voice acting performances. The orchestra numbers were hit or miss, but mostly got the job done when it came to denoting the games pace.

Replayability - It's there in spades. LOTS of potential branches to follow with a visualization of your taken path. However like most Cage games there is a larger narrative being explained that can only be affected so much. Still, well worth two or three plays to see more of the stand-out performances.

Verdict - A mash-up of David Cages finest work. Of the three narratives you can see a little of each previous Cage title. Kara has the emotional family driven narrative of Heavy Rain, Conner is the detective drama from Indigo Prophecy and Markus shows the supernatural signs of technological instability - nodding back to the supernatural presence in Beyond Two Souls. It really feels like Cage took all the elements that worked in those titles, and lost those that didn't for an overall enjoyable experience. 8/10

Detroit: Become Human, is Quantic Dreams' latest game. It takes place in a visually hyper-realistic slightly futuristic version of Detroit, Michigan. If you like it, then you should try Quantic Dreams' previous games - Beyond: Two Souls, and also Heavy Rain (which you can buy on the PS4 online game store), as well as their earlier games, Fahrenheit (which is also known as Indigo Prophecy) and Omikron the Nomad Soul (both of these last two can be found at gog.com for cheap. These last two are pc games. All of these games have a similar gameplay style except Omikron, which is very different.

Detroit: Become Human resembles in many ways the TV show, "Humans," though it was in development before Humans first aired. The game concerns the world in the near future, when people own lifelike robots. These robots are popular with the wealthy but the working class hate them for taking their jobs. Now, perhaps due to a new upgrade, some of the robots are gaining a sense of right and wrong, and wills of their own. The game follows a few different robots to a point where their paths converge. One robot is a young woman whose employer is abusive to his daughter. Another is a caretaker for a wealthy artist whose no-good son is jealous of the robot. A third is a detective who is partnered with another detective who hates robots. The visuals are amazing. The acting is great. The stories are intriguing and at times very suspenseful. The game consists of walking around, finding clues, speaking with other characters, and at times has action sequences that produce quite an adrenalin rush. The game resembles traditional point and click adventures except it has no real puzzles or, the puzzles that do exist are so simple I wouldn't personally even call them puzzles.

The game also shows you at the end of each chapter, a map indicating what you did in that chapter as well as where you could have done certain things but did not. The things you didn't do are revealed by blank boxes. There are no spoilers in the flowchart. Also, when you speak to characters, blank dialogue choices will appear to indicate that - if you had done certain things in the past - additional dialogue choices would have been available to you. The game also has multiple endings based on choices you make while playing.

It is a great game, with superlative story, visuals, and acting. I would have given it a 10 if it was not marred by one very bad design flaw. On-screen prompts indicate every little thing you can do. If I can open a door by rotating my thumbstick a certain way, a symbol on-screen will tell me that when I get near the door. If I can pick up a book by pushing my thumbstick up, a symbol on screen will tell me that when I get near the book. If I am looking for someone and knock on their door and ring their doorbell, words will pop up on the screen telling me to discover another way inside. Ya' think?

The designers might respond, "Yes but in many situations the gesture you need to make with the thumbstick or with the entire controller, is unique to that situation, so we have to give you these symbols."

My answer to that is, Most of the time the gestures are consistent. Sometimes they're not. The designers should have made it so gestures are consistent so players can learn them in one tutorial chapter and then be on their own. If a particular quirky moment requires something different, OK in that instance show a symbol on screen, but only in those very few quirky moments.

I cannot even turn these symbols off. They should have made it so you can turn them off and then by toggling a press of the left or right stick, I could turn them on if I need them. But having your hand held all the way through a game is extremely annoying.

That said, Detroit: Become Human is still a solid 8. It is also unlike any other game you can buy. Yes, it is squarely in the adventure genre (true adventure, not action adventure, meaning it has a lot of plot and is not about action, though it has action scenes here and there) but within that genre Detroit: Become Human takes an approach that is unique and more story-driven than any game (aside from games by the same company) that I can think of.

It can be as deeply emotional as it is profound, as it forces you to feel attached to the characters as well as ponder their personal motivations. Its diversity and the choices it offers are also remarkable, much better than those of any Quantic Dream game beforehand, Heavy Rain included. But most of all i was impressed by how the game challenges your perceptions of what's real and what's not, and it does that in a variety of ways, including by using its Main Menu in ways i have never seen before (promoting so-called philosophical surveys, asking you questions, it even goes as far, depending on your choices, as to challenge you to allow the eyecandy android depicted in its menu animations to 'walk free', meaning you will lose her as the 'face of the game', which will be replaced by a (mostly) white image. I loved the way she was implemented, and was really sad to see her go, but it's all about one's values, isn't it? As for the endings, they can be really heart-wrenching as it is really hard (or impossible?) to get the 'good' ones for ALL parties involved, or all 3 main characters - and the fact that they're all wonderfully constructed makes it very hard to decide who you want to sacrifice, especially since the repercussions of your actions are rarely easily apparent in the game. Overall, this was a one of a kind experience and, for me, a complete masterpiece. Well done Quantic Dream, you completely surpassed even my highest expectations! Expand

Detroit: Become Human is an emotionally driven story that weaves a complex narrative of multiple branching pathways. These oftentimes converge and create moments that test the finality of your decisions. You can truly see how the world suffers or prevails from the consequences of your actions which resonate throughout the story.

While it does possess the usual David Cage charm that may not appeal to most, I personally found the approach to be problem free and I believed that my choices carried weight.
That's what Science Fiction allows you to do: suspend your belief. I totally surrendered myself to the world of Detroit and the well-written and relatively grounded characters of Markus, Kara and Connor.
Exceptionally written dialogue coupled with a fantastic soundtrack and beautifully rendered graphics and animations (some of the best I've ever seen) make this one of the most enjoyable games that I have played in recent memory.
This game is a work of art and I believe it would appeal to all fans of Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Until Dawn or any games across the Telltale Games catalogue.
Ultimately if you enjoy a decent story you will find that here and will come away with more than you expected from the beginning.

The choices in this game were very intense that they make you question your morality to shape the future of you and the characters that can lead to any sort of ending depending on your choices. Also the pacing of the story is so perfect that it never has a dull moment because the Quantic Dream has managed to pull of on of the most gripping stories I have ever played this year. Once you start playing this video game you will never get your hands off the controller as you want to see more and more off what’s going to happen in the story and how will your choices affect other characters. The game has one of the best story telling ever this year, it may even surpass god of war in terms of story. David Cage has managed to pull one of if not one of the best interactive story games ever. The best part of the story for me was the building up the relationship between Kara and Alice who ran away from their owner (Todd) who abused them and tried to kill them. The reason it was the best part for me because the bonding between Kara and Alice brought me into tears and it was very heart wrenching as the story progresses you tend to care more about their lives because their bonding becomes more important as the story progresses. The more you progress the game the more emotional you will feel as you feel sorry for Kara and Alice to face the world alone just to be free from discrimination and giving the best life possible for Alice. For Kara nothing else matters but to protect Alice and be her mother figure.

Marcus was an android who later became the leader of Jericho and wanted to free his people from slaver to become the masters. He was similar to the likes of Martin Luther king jr, if you chose the pacifist path and you have the option to chose the violent path but will endanger people around and will destroy public’s opinion.

Connor was an android send by Cyber life who wanted to investigate why did the deviants start emulating human emotional as he progress the investigation here may question his morality than does he want to betray his creators by joining the side of the deviants or destroy the deviants it depends on your choices.

The story in my opinion is the best this year because you can change the future depending on your actions and can change the opinions of the public and the deviants in Jericho all which can lead them to be saved or sacrificed for the greater good of freedom for the androids who were suppressed by the humanity by treating them like slaves rather than living beings. To me it’s considered to be Quantic dreams finest work yet and so the game deserves a 10+ for me.

It is the best game of Quantic Dream.
    Great Graphics
    Conforming sound
    Striking Story
The greatest number of routes so far
The only thing I regret is that I really didn't want to cut Kara's hair ...

I still personally prefer most Telltale style narratives, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not enjoying almost every second of Detroit: Become Human. Fantastic visuals and storytelling.

Plus your choices actually matter, so that's a plus

Detroit: Become Human delivers a story with a ton of possible choices, and a lot of questions for a player to bear afterward. If you like it when games make you think about them after you play them, this is the game for you. Stunning visuals and music score, make you forget about some weaker points of the game. But all in all, it is an enjoyable experience you should not miss.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
