Graphics, sound design and story is all perfectly done. If you are even remotely into story driven games with hard choices, then this game is a must-have.
And kudos to David Cage and Quantic Dream for touching on difficult topics.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't write reviews. Taste is something that I don't believe people can argue. But this game...It was beautiful, thought-provoking, touching, bewitching and, most of all, it was fun AF! Mistakes were made. Tears happened. My boyfriend admitted that I'm a better person than he is because I made my choices with all the conviction I could muster. There was always an option I could take that I truly believed in. I'm NOT a huge fan of David Cage. I had no idea who he was until I got Become Human. (Then I tried Heavy Rain and was like "lol, wot?!", made it 10 minutes into that and I'll stick to Detroit instead). To people who rate this game low because you don't like the genre, you're a bloody idiot. You're rating the game in its genre, why play something you don't like and then rate it poorly? For the genre it is, it's beautiful. I just beat it, and I need to go play it again...Luther and Alice died, clearly, mistakes were made and I need to fix them. Expand

This game has the most branching storylines I've ever seen, or even heard of. You know that "illusion of choice" thing that Telltale does? This is pretty much the polar opposite of that, and it's very transparent - at the end of each chapter, you see a flow chart that shows you everywhere the narrative could, and did, diverge. So the replay value of Detroit is off the charts (though a softie like me just replays the same storyline where everything works out for everyone possible because I don't have the heart to make any of my characters suffer). And, while imperfect, the story is gripping and draws people in. As I've been playing the game in my living room, members of my family who don't play video games who were just walking by have found themselves sitting with me for hours to see what happens. The occasional cliche or trope might take you out of the action for a moment, but overall this story is a hell of a ride. I would recommend it highly and wish I could erase my memory of the game so I could discover it again for the first time (along with Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and LiS, for good measure). Expand

Doing so may unlock additional choices in later interactions or progress the story objective. While nothing wrong with that (this is how this type of game works) some people might find it boring or tedious.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Quantic Dream is mainly known for Heavy Rain which is mostly loved. An impressive achievement for the game that is incomplete because of cut content and thus integral parts of the story missing as well as the plotholes and red herings in the game itself.
Detroit, however, does not come close to feeling as incomplete as HR. I loved Beyond Two Souls a lot and three years ago when I watched the trailer of Detroit I immediately thought "wow, THIS could be even more liked by me than Beyond" which really means something because I totally love Beyond.
Now here's the thing: Having played it Day 1 I immediately rushed through the story in one session. And I definitely love it and enjoyed it. I just can hardly dislike a story about AI. The problem is Detroit feels very, very much like, even though it is complete, it has so much missed potential. It is like some warmed-up food or the same kind of food that you cook always the same or even if you change the recipe you barely change it at all. Really giving this same topic a new spin by spicing things up could have added a lot more to the effect, the narrative and the entertainment.
To be honest, I do not appreciate that the game has to be some sort of Heavy Rain or Fahrenheit clone. I do not need x characters that switch back and forth between chapters. It breaks the immersion for one specific character for me. This is where I think Beyond scored. Also Detroit has even more of a clone-like feeling when you just have to play another room cleaning simulator or have at least one more police man character or something similiar just to once more bring in investigation and action scenes. And of course the predictable "insane guy with an insane cellar". We had that in the previous games already. I would have appreciated more diversity. Especially when it comes to the narration - first of all I think it would have been better to just have one character and make the other two important characters that your character interacts with and they influence each other during the story. Take Kara and make Markus and Connor important NPCs would be my recommendation (which obviously will not be a thing as the game is finished already but that is what I would have done for the immersion and for not always disrupting the narrative flow and growing attached to a certain character). Sure, when you play the other two you might feel you know them better than having them as NPCs but more me this hardly works because I rather have one where the focus is not lost. And Kara seemed perfect for that. The narration itself leads to a really sweet, dramatic and tragic story but that is what was talking about earlier: It is nice but there could have been so much more. A much more epic story. I was missing something like not a machine that just did his job but a deviant that even as a deviant was ALWAYS in the story going to bother you. Or Kara who as mentioned should have just had more contact with the other characters. Of course as she was one specific android who was just minding her own business she was not part of the revolution but I think they could have easily met earlier and even with minding her own business she could have influence the others with her way of thinking and care for Alice. I will not bother mentioning narration problems/plotholes now because those are not all that bad. What I really think of as sad is, while the score is good, I think that is where Detroit really falls short. You really were able to feel the intensity of Norman Corbeil's (RIP) and Hans Zimmer's work i the previous games. This game however has pretty much only 2 tracks for me that I think of as really good and the others are just like "running in the background".
Now when it comes to the story itself - what can I say? I am a person that still can be gotten with goodm old cliché stories like the parent-child story so of course I absolutely adored the story of Kara and Alice. Alice is totally adorable and it was pretty much from the get-go clear that Kara was my favourite character in the game. The way they interact and then later Luther together with them is just something that I always enjoy, no matter in which story it is - so that is one of the themes in stories where not much has to be changed for me - even though the plottwist really was no plottwist. You saw it coming from a mile away. There is actually some weird character problem with Kara when it comes to that "twist" because the byproduct message seems weird in a game like this but I guess I can live with it because the main message is the really important thing.

Overall it is a really great, a fantastic game. However - I wish there would have been a lot more of what I saw this game could be from the mere topic itself. I doubt it can push Beyond or LIS off the throne of cinematic movie games for me but maybe after a while it will share place. Still great game though some questions are unnecessary because of Computer Science and Psychology.

Detroit Become Human is a wonderful game where based on your choices, people can live or die, Androids can revolt peacefully or with aggression. The story is so far the best that has come out of Quantic Dream. The graphics are amazing too even though they were pretty amazing with Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls. I love the soundtrack to this game. It is amazing. With having the multiple choices you can explore the different sides of the story.

Why is empathy a desirable quality to instill into artificial life? What happens to ordinary people left behind by new forms of automation? Are we doomed to repeat the mistakes of our past as we attempt to create obedient servants rather than equal partners? The exploration of these themes gives this title depth and emotional resonance well beyond what you would expect to find in modern video games.

This game is really immersive. I spend 20+ hours for the first playthrough (I replayed some chapters when my characters die as I wanted the best outcome on the first, despite that you still see the unexpected outcome in the end). If you make a movie with this game story, it may be good but not great. However one important difference here is you make your own story in this game. You deeply care all characters and you will feel all sort of emotions while playing this as this is the the story you made- you pull the trigger, you betray your master.
The story is very engaging and emotional. I particularly like the Kara's story. The branching paths are very deep and the decision you made at the beginning of the game can affect even the last chapter. This is not like telltale kind of 'who should you save then the saved one die in the next episode anyway'. The story deeply changes according to your choice.
The game play- yes there is no combo but the qte still gives you the sense of thrill and urgency as you deeply care about your character and you don't want them to lose.
The graphics- top notch, the mo-cap will make you feel wanting when you play another game. The developer gives attention to details and it's unbelievable. Even the articles found in the game are interesting to read.
Music- one of the best, It matches the scenes you are playing. Kara's music in particular sounds very sad and touching.
There is no shame to say I cried in some scenes- either because of happiness or sadness. The 79 critic score is totally ridiculous. This at least deserve >90. This is 100 times better than mindless shooter or hack and slash.

I wouldn't call it lazy. I feel a re imagining of our world is the right choice for the messages conveyed throughout the game. I love an epic fantasy world the likes of Xenoblade Chronicles and Final Fantasy, and Detroit takes place somewhere between that and a world like The Last of Us has. It's familiar but not entirely and they don't just pull the "post-apocalyptic" gimmick.

I was blown away by the game like I always am with these titles from this developer. The formula works well for me so I´m very biased. So how is Detroit worth your time? It excels at narrative, sound, visual impression and replayability.
The narrative branches wider than ever and minute details can become big game changers down the road. Every isolated scene includes its own branches and paths you can traverse. I feel like we're still not quite there. Like even though the degree of freedom is comparatively massive, it still feels limited. I can't quite put my finger on it. But we are getting there. I dislike some of the dialog options and how they are presented. Sometimes you'll choose "solution" and what your character says is not at all what I imagined. And finally, when you do pick a path, you cannot go back. Even if you change your mind a second after picking it. "No! Go back down that ladder, I missed that item over there!".

The soundtrack is divided into three parts. Each with its own distinct sound and direction. My personal favorite is the soundtrack by the composer: Nima Fakhrara. The tracks are full of suspense, intrigue and mystery and goes well with playing the detective. Most of the tracks are ambiance, so don´t expect to listen to the tracks outside the game. Well "Connor chase ost" is pretty good admittedly.

Art style. It’s photo-realism done right. I’m a huge sucker for stylized graphics (think Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Breath of the Wild) and I usually don't care for realism. This game showed me the kind of photo-realism even I can appreciate. The key is in the interior design, architecture and use of colors. It really feels like a stylized reality and even though the characters look human, there's a sense of wonder about them. You can tell they are not quite real and instead similar to fairy tale characters. Except Little Red Riding Hood suddenly looks photo-realistic.

It bugs me a lot that they decided to censor this title. No nudity, no display of affection unless disguised by "clever camera angles" and even though the game has blood, you never notice any splatter.

-It's fun, deep and interactive and I would say it's a thinking man's game.

I give it a 9/10 on a scale where '1' is "The Last of Us" and '10' is Persona 5.

Its not a type of game where the choices just changes the path but has pre-written ending. Each choice matters and I could almost see the 3 characters have atleast 10 major endings to their story and considering who all live/die along with us adds to to even more probabilities. The good thing is you can go back restart the checkpoints immediately if you regret the outcome of any decision. But there is also a nice way to prevent you from changing the decisions often, some effects in the game is based on decision made very early in the game which cannot be changed now. If you want, you have to do it all over again.

The game's greatest feature is also its great weakness. With multiple possible story branches and endings, a gamer can never fully see all the outcomes unless you replay it N number of times. I managed to check out some videos in youtube for some alternate paths I didn't take and was amazed that some of the endings were completely different. Loved the game even more after watching those.

Fantastic work by Quantic dream for giving us an intense game !!!

In Detroit, the smallest choice could get a character killed and that's what so great. Every choice has weight and you stress about situations because of that weight. The three main characters all have compelling stories and you care about each one. I was worried that one character would be the odd one out but luckily I was wrong. David Cage but time with each character so that they would all feel unique. The writing is great and the pacing is on point. There are some moments where the story is a bit slow (towards the beginning) but after the story picks up, it doesn't stop. Your choices are so important that some people may hate the game because of how some character arcs can end. One wrong move and a character can die which can leave you a bit unfulfilled. This is what happened to me on my first playthrough. I kept all three main characters alive until everything began going wrong. It left me feeling unsatisfied but I knew it was my fault. My second playthrough ended much better and made me appreciate the game even more. I cannot wait to see what Quantic Dream does next! Expand

Şöyle söyleyeyim; severek oynadığım, oynamasam bile Call of Duty gibi her sene çıktığında alıp kütüphanemde tuttuğum oyunların o seneki oyunu fütüristik olduğunda o oyunu almam mümkün olamıyor*. Bunun nedenini hiç bir zaman anlayamayacak olsam da kendimce bir kaç tahminim var tabii. Bunlardan ilki 2001: A Space Odyssey bu konuya girmeyeceğim, ikincisi ise Back to the Future.

The choices were consequential and heavy. I often had to stop playing to catch myself and reconsider whether I had made the right decision. Needless to say there is no "right decision" Every choice you make advances the story forward in a meaningful way. It truly is a narrative that adapts to the choices you make and forces you to consider what it means to be human. I found myself questioning assumptions I didn't know I had only to be put in a position that showed me why I had a reason to have those assumptions in the first place.

In every way this game is a masterpiece of technology, story, performance, graphics and narrative. A 10/10 for any gamer that appreciates a game with mature choices and real consequences.

Detroit is outstanding. The story is incredibly impactful, the characters are complex, the graphics are incredible, and the music is amazing. It goes places where many games and movies wouldn't, it gives the player incredibly hard decisions to make, and the end result is a project that you can tell the people working on it cared about. Great story-telling and acting. These two make it an amazing game, there's no need for extremely pushing gameplay or mind blowing action, it's main point is how this game is extremely bending, you can shape the story yourself and actually see the outcome of your choices.

It is incredibly interesting to observe the development of the plot, make your own choices and watch where they lead you. Characters are amazing.I mean, everyone of them. Connor and Hank and their father-son dynamic is everything to me tho. This game gave me a lot of emotions, I have not experienced this for a long time.
p.s. english is not my first language so sorry for mistakes,I hope I expressed my thoughts and emotions clearly.

Three amazing independent stories. Choices that really impact the gameplay heavily, not just cosmetically like in many cases of "your choices matter" nowadays. The game is beautifull, the shooting and directing is amazing, better than in many movies in my opinion. And let's not forget about the music. Possibly the best game of Quantic Dream yet.

Le scénario, les personnages, les graphismes, les musiques, tout est parfait ! Les messages que fait passer ce jeux sont très forts, et malgré ses légers défauts, ce jeu est l'un de mes jeux préféré.

Absolutely loved this game. My girlfriend "willingly" sits and watches it. Okay let’s get something straight, THIS GAME IS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS! The graphics blew me away from the demo! The characters all have an amazing part to play in everything that’s happening. The story keeps you engaged the whole entire time, every decision is VERY important! The character building is just 10/10! Don’t really know how to express my love for this game in words. This game made me cry. It's so amazing - every path of character is so different, so unique. You just want to replay as many times, to get all options. QuanticDream made amazing game, and everyone should at least try it. The love and hard work, you can see it in the production. May i ask it, personally, game of the year!

One of the best story driven games I've played in a while- and what a story it is, even having marathoned the game in two 7 hour sittings I was invested to every character and couldn't possibly pick a favourite (maybe a slight bias towards a certain buddy cop duo however ) , the graphics and mo-cap are absolutely amazing and have come so far since the PS3 tech demo. On a lighter note to end on, beyond the game the community rocks too, shout out to the Jericho chat!!

The beauty of this game is the respect and power given to the player. You literally decide the story and outcomes. There are heart touching moments, and shocking moments. The dynamic between Connor and Hank is worth the full price for the game by its self. Connor is the coolest video game character in a while in my opinion. Detroit: Become Human delivers a story with a ton of possible choices, and a lot of questions for a player to bear afterward. If you like it when games make you think about them after you play them, this is the game for you. Stunning visuals and music score, make you forget about some weaker points of the game. But all in all, it is an enjoyable experience you should not miss.

Detroit: Become Human looks and sounds great, and includes key player choices throughout, though it could have benefited greatly from a tighter script. While it’s commendable that Quantic Dream tried to cover hot-button issues in a big-budget video game, it works better when focused on the personal character moments than the bigger themes that don’t dig deep enough to make a meaningful impact.

Although the narrative is fairly linear, there are enough branching paths over the course of the game to make it feel like your actions matter. That allows Detroit to still be fun even on multiple playthroughs – and for an interactive movie, that’s a rare praise. [Issue#231, p.68]
