I think this game is pretty awesome!! Yes it gets a little repetitive but so did Borderlands and every long game I have ever played. The graphics are excellent and enemies are fun to fight. Great balance of fire power and ammo to take on the baddies. The special armor and guns are going to take some serious time investment to get. Can't wait for expansions and additional content. The few games I played in the crucible were fun. The maps I played were huge and offer a lot of different play styles. I can't wait to get back into it today!! Collecting loot isn't quite as fun as Boarderlands but is still a good time. Love getting the encrypted items and running back to the Tower to see what they are. Very solid, pretty game, that offers players a lot to do. I don't see myself playing anything else for a long time. Expand

Fantastic game. The most fun I've ever had online FPS and MMO wise. I simply cannot over stress how much fun this game is!! The reactions to this game are unfortunate. Maybe all that Activision bragging about the huge game budget was what catalyzed the negative reactions. The huge amount of money that they used for marketing could have been used to enhance certain aspects of the game. From my opinion this is the most fun you can have in a FPS-RPG-MMO-kind-of-game.

I'll start with the CONS: - mediocre
The reactions to this game are unfortunate. Maybe all that Activision bragging about the huge game budget was what catalyzed the negative reactions. The huge amount of money that they used for marketing could have been used to enhance certain aspects of the game. From my opinion this is the most fun you can have in a FPS-RPG-MMO-kind-of-game.

    I'll start with the CONS:

    - mediocre voice-acting
    - lack of finesse in using the game's lore(the lore is very interesting and you can find more about the universe by checking out the grimoire cards on Bungie's site BUT the writing is poorly done and the story fails to let you in the universe they created); there is a lot of potential but for now they did not do a very good job; it is by no means an atrocious story, it's just not well presented and could be enhanced;
    - the repetitiveness is a small issue but one which can be easily tolerated if you find yourself happy with the game; they could change a few things in the cooperative strikes, like random enemy encounters, random enemy spawning(because after 2-3 playthroughs of the same strike you will get to know the way to the bosses and the locations from which enemies spawn and you get to skip some parts just to finish the strikequickly and get your rewards)
    - the loot system can be improved, even though it is quite ok ( there are many secret locations which do not have loot in them or you get the same loot from hidden stashes)
    - the in-game fireteam communication must be enhanced(you have very limited reactions: dance, point, wave and sit; there has to be a way to improve this mechanic and add more reactions like point-to-location to improve coordination, clap to encourage a teammate, wait, stay, help etc)

    PROS:

    - perfect FPS mechanics/controls
    - awesome locations
    - awesome soundtrack(O'Donnell is the king)
    - awesome bosses and intense bossfights
    - enemy variety(up to 4 alien species with different tactics, advantages, disadvantages and different weak spots, forcing you to change your tactics accordingly)
    - awesome-looking gear(weapons and armor are awesome)
    - awesome customization (armor colour, different ships, different sparrows)
    - interesting level-up system which gives you 2 subclasses per class with 2 different combat approaches(every skill column serves for a certain ability and you may choose 2 from a column depending on how you want to play: offensive, defensive, more/less toughness, more/less speed/agility,more/less recovery, more grenades, area-of-effect kind of abilities or single enemy focused abilities etc.)
    - very fun game to play with your friends!
    - decent campaign lenght
    - lots of content with daily/weekly added stuff
    - awesome graphics
    - perfect smooth framerate
    - smart-ish A.I.( which will make Halo fans think about Halo and the behaviour of the Elites when their shields decreased etc) which changes tactics, stalks you, confront you, hides when in danger/shields low but there is still room for improvement
    - mostly no bugs(I say mostly because I have heard some people talking about a few problems but I did not experience any graphic/sound/in-game/connectivity issues in the 40 hours which I spent with this game)

I would say that this game is in no way deserving a grade less than 8. It is the kind of game which you should first play before you judge. I hope that people could stop hating just for fun and judge this game accordingly. It is a very fun game, it is not the best game of the decade and peoples should stop boarding the hype/hate trains and just play for fun.

This blend is accomplished while conveying a good, kind of cryptic, story. What I am most satisfied with, that Borderlands did not do, is that the RPG elements of damage and firing a weapon poses little interference on the FPS elements. The only similarity between Destiny and Borderlands is that it has RPG elements as a shooter. That's where the similarity ends. Talent progression, weapon progression, gear progression and leveling are completely different. Oh yeah, the graphics are also completely different.

Always Online. My job forces me to be gone with no internet for somewhat long periods of time, so yes, online only can suck. However, all the MMO's that I used to play are online only and I never complained about them. So what gives me or anyone else the right to negatively judge this game in this aspect when it was stated day 1? Face it, this game has enough MMO elements that it absolutely needs to be online. Stop complaining about something that you knew about in advance. This is not JUST an FPS.

Now, the review. I didn't give this game a 10/10 specifically for some of the story mechanics. I am not going to negatively review a game over talents or in game mechanics that can change with the flick of a hotfix.

Graphics 10 - Easy choice, this game is super polished and pulls out a lot of what the PS4 has to offer.

Game Play 10 - Much like Halo: CE the game play is very solid. There is little to nothing mechanically working against you. Mostly just the enemies working against you. When game mechanics are your enemy, you are far from solid. Getting that first blue weapon and being excited to get one of it's passives not something I have experienced in another game. Firing said weapon and validating it as being unique is also a very good feeling.

Community 9 - The lack of a chat window is both a gift and a curse. It's a gift for those of us who could care less about 9 - 12 year old's attempting to Troll. It can be a curse to those who are shy with a mic but this is a console game any way. I'd rather use voice than type with a controller, especially in a MMOish-FPSish game like this.

Story 9 - The story is outstanding and it has me hooked however being able to see the Grimoire cards in game would be nice. Bungie has also managed to keep the story mysterious as if you are actually trying to learn the history of the Earth from scratch. The one issue I have here is that I find many of my story missions or strikes (at some point) revolve around the Ghost getting me into a lot of trouble with it's addiction to hacking. Hacking very slowly I might add.

Competitive Multiplayer 10 - Yeah, getting waxed by everybody and they're mom wielding an Auto rifle can get frustrating but this is PvP. All the weapons can be countered if you use your weapon where it shines. They changed how tough you are while using a super from beta, which is a good thing regardless of how frustrating it can be when you are the victim. Nonetheless, the PvP is solid and the maps have decent variety. There are some things that I think need to be tweaked but like I stated earlier, this game will receive many patches in it's life and those tweaks will more than likely be in them.

I can see how many people instantly have negative feelings for anything that gets this amount of hype. This due to the fact that 85% of the things that get mega hyped fall short. I ask those people to try this game at a friends with their negative bias aside and prove this game wrong. Don't just play one mission and tap out. Get in a fire team, take on a strike, team up with some friends in the crucible and make this game flex for you. It will, and you will want to play it more.

Personally I absolutely love the game. The graphics and visuals are amazing. The sounds are also very, very good. Yes some of the gameplay is a little repetitive, but that's because it's not a linear game where you're going from one unique level to the next, never to visit the previous. I also liked that the environments weren't super filled up with loot and chests similar to Borderlands where you have about 1,000 chests to open at any one time.

The gameplay is excellent. When I first started playing, I felt the character seemed a little sluggish and slow. Adjusting the stick sensitivity helped with some of this. The shooting has a nice real feel to it. You get a more random recoil out of the automatics than just a straight up arc. The mix of weapons could have been a little more broad but I'm sure as the game progresses that will change (in the sense of Bungie releasing updates and mods). The PVP is also a ton of fun to play. I like that it integrates what you do in the story and has direct ties to the legendary armors. The accompanying storyline is interesting to say the least. I really enjoy the Sci Fi genre and this game embodies everything you'd expect out of that.

My advice is to go play the game without any preconceived notions about what it is or isn't supposed to be. I see a lot of reviews where players are butt hurt it isn't EXACTLY Halo or EXACTLY Borderlands or whatever. It's a really enjoyable game with a lot of great features.

I would disagree with all the reviews bashing this based on all the hype that by the way Diablo 3 had too, but yet still got high scores. They cant seem to understand this game. I know everyone is complaining about the "OH MY GOD ALL I DO IS SHOOT THINGS... I GO HERE, I SHOOT THINGS... I GO HERE AND SHOOT SOME MORE THINGS". But let's be honest, that's exactly what you do in any shooter.

Did you like it in Halo where you went to campaign mission and killed some things and then you went farther into the mission and farther into the map and killed some more things? Then you'll love Destiny.

Did you like it in Call of Duty where you cleared waves after waves of enemies while you sought after objectives and conquered the area? Then you'll love Destiny.

I also know that everyone is complaining about how it's just a "RIP OFF OF BORDERLANDS!"... Well I'm sorry to break this to you... but Borderlands used the "scaling items" gimmick from every other MMORPG in the world. Because guess what, they have scaling items just like that.

Borderlands: "OH COOL I GOT THIS LEVEL 15 GUN WHICH IS BETTER THAN MY LEVEL 13 GUN"

MMORPG: "OH COOL I GOT THIS LEVEL 15 SWORD WHICH IS BETTER THAN MY LEVEL 13 AX"

One of my big complaints, is how we don't have communications to other people near by. I really think the game needs proximity voice chat. Without it, I feel disconnected from other players on the map.

Also, the load screens are super long, but with the nicer graphics come longer load screens, so I'm kind of okay with that.

Either way, the game is great. And people who are hating to the point of giving it anything less than a 7, really aren't thinking about the situation or have no idea what they're talking about.

The locations are repetitive but the experiences in them are not. The lack of cutscenes is a nod towards that repetition. Nobody wants to group watch a bunch of video--they want to blow stuff up with their mates. I've seen outright errors in professional reviews--like the lack of ability to join up with random people you see online. You absolutely can. This game will keep me busy for a couple of months of 10 hour/week gaming. I don't like repetition. So who I am playing with and what sub-mission I am going after, or the surprise drop-in missions that started a couple of days ago all make the experience different enough to keep me coming back. Did Bungie start a game revolution? No way, but that's a pretty high bar for a 10. Expand

I do however enjoy the small group version of MMO. Rather than feeling forced to join a large guild to complete end game content I can play with my close group of friends in 3 man teams to knock out missions, and PVP.

Just look at WoW's patchnotes after the 11.11.2004 release, a game like this is being build in time, dont expect it to be the "final" version at release. For me WoW's "final" version comes with every new xpac.

Another thing, i've played BF, COD and those games are made for the multiplayer purpose, any of those games have a very limited time of campaign (good/bad it doesn't matter since the core of the game stands in the multiplayer). Look at the most beloved Dragon Age, a beautiful story, with no multiplayer ... why do you think its like that ?

Destiny's core stands in the multiplayer, PVP/STRIKES/RAIDS, so judge it from that PoV. Long grinding endgame ?!?! (well wtf Diablo and WoW and all other games on the planet are then ?).

For the moment I love the game, since it feels more casual then WoW is and that fits me just fine.

Aside from the graphics I was mesmerized by the ambiance and the soundtrack and how they really made it immersive without menus and interruptions. I noticed that most of the missions involved reaching a goal and surviving waves of enemies. They don't have the greatest AI ever written but they are definitely a challenge playing solo. I felt thoroughly stressed and panicked in particularly hard no-respawn zones but winning always felt like a bit of a rush, sort of like dark souls 2.

The multiplayer was frustrating when I played because I really did not understand the capabilities of human players. Often I was just a casualty of some super charged attack that I couldn't have seen coming, or players would kill me in one hit. It seemed very similar to the halo series on the multiplayer, but much smaller. I really like the customization of appearance and gear, even though they balance it in MP.

Overall I feel like it is a pretty great game. For those of you who seem disappointed, they are more than likely to address your concerns in future expansions / sequels to Destiny. For example the first halo games were definitely not perfect, but they improved gradually until it became a masterpiece.

This is a very fun game. Its like having a shooter MMO on console. And by all means compare it to an MMO, but remind yourself its not. It does share ALOT in common with MMOs however and thats its strong points. But like MMOs it lacks in a few departments. So hopefully the game sees some fine tuning and polishing in the next months.

Its not a game changer, but theres still fun times to be had.

Do yourself a favor and block out everything that has been said, to include the hype, and be your own judge. With that said, lets jump in. Destiny is (of course in my opinion) an amazing game with lots to offer. I personally cannot put it down. I had my reservations coming into the world that is Destiny, but I'm glad I did. Destiny is an a brilliantly, well manicured, masterpiece from a visual standpoint. The gameplay and control you feel in the game is top notch. To be expected from a group like Bungie of course. The more you put in, the more you get out. Its seems the deeper I dive into the game the better it gets, which is what we all want with any game, right? Its a slow start and takes some getting used to, mostly due to the fact that there is not a lot of explanation or guidance along your journey, not to mention a story line that falls short of great and nowhere near the potential that Bungie has. Especially given the baseline of the Destiny story leaves potential for incredibly epic storytelling. And lets not sell ourselves short here either, we have merely only begun to scrape the surface of what Destiny is and will be. It can only get better from here, Bungie will not sit by and this be all Destiny is, it is a constantly changing and growing world with endless possibilities, and the good news is, we have the best in the business to ensure that. All in All, I am personally already having a blast with this game in all areas, from MP, to solo story missions, to patrols, strikes, public events, all the way down to the decisions that define who my guardian is and will become. But don't take my word for it, discover Destiny on your terms with an open mind and see for yourself. - Jake The Jinxed (Xbox One) Expand

Let's start off with what’s good: the game is obscenely beautiful, not every game makes me want to just stop and look at what the artists have pulled off, even visiting the same areas multiple times I still just love to look around, it's freaking beautiful, the music gives me chills, it’s SO GOOD.
The combat is insanely fun, it feels polished and it's satisfying to ka-blam aliens with my shotgun or scout rifle (literally obsessed with that thing). Even encountering the same "mobs" over again isn't tedious which is an issue I have with a lot of MMOs, you get real tired of those nerds attacking you every time you walk through that area. I don’t even know what else to say about the combat, it’s really fun; Bungie is the master of fun FPS. But with the Strikes and Weekly missions, it get REALLY DAMN HARD. I wasn't expecting it to be so hard, it’s great. Even attempting the high level story missions is tricky, lower level stuff is pretty easy but with the hard modes the enemies just overwhelm you with numbers and being freaking bullet sponges.

I think a lot of people were expecting something else from this game, I think some people were expecting an expansive MMO Space-Skyrim (seriously, I think some people were expecting that?) you'll be disappointed that it’s pretty small environment-wise as of now; I don't have much of an issue with it, but a lot of other people might.
People were also expecting it to be an MMO, and it's not; funnily, the random encounters with other players reminds me of Journey, just think Journey but you shoot aliens.
But if you bought it expecting an MMO you'll be disappointed. The game is more like Diablo 3 and Borderlands. With that said; instead of relying on drops for rare loot you can grind for currency (the marks, coins, motes, glimmer is eeeeaaasy to get) and purchase armor that's JUST as good as something you'll find or win in a Strike or PVP, and I really dig it; I lost my mind killing the same boss over and over again in Borderlands hoping a gun I want would drop.
But yeah, there is grinding in this game, getting the PVP and PVE marks kind of reminds me of gathering weekly tombs in FFXIV, and it’s definitely a grind; if you aren't into the currency/mark grind you would probably hate it. Actually if you don’t like grinding I would suggest a different game, it’s fun for some weird people like me but there are people who haaaate it. For me it’s the perfect amount of grinding, it’s not too insane and the game also does not hand you everything.

Also the PVP? It’s fun, there are the regular issues nearly every PVP game has that I hate which is: I suck at it. But I actually keep going back to play it, it’s really fun and you actually get rewards if you kind of suck. I hope Bungie can fix the cheating issues though, that’s a bummer, why do people cheat with stuff like that? C’mon, why even play the game…

And finally my main issue with the game: the story is mediocre. Bungie should have spent the money on a sci-fi author rather than Paul McCartney doing a song. The lore is interesting and cool but the story was just executed badly and the writing could have been way better, especially when they have Halo to live up to story-wise (which was my favorite thing about Halo). Also, I really think the Grimoire Cards should be in game. The lore they provide is interesting and I’m not going to stop playing to go onto the internet to read them, I was reading them on my break at work haha. Games like Dishonored did an excellent job with the books throughout the game or Bioshock's audio logs with back-story and lore, that’s how you do it; the lore is part of the game, it should be inside the game in some way.
But yeah, if you were counting on Destiny to have the best plot ever, you will be pretty disappointed. Hope they can improve with the expansions.

The game does have some small issues I’m not really going to get into, there are already plenty of negative reviews, and if you don't like something about it, you're probably not going to change your mind.
But really, it’s nothing they can’t fix without additional patches and added content, I hope everyone else who’s playing with it will stick around to see what they add and improve upon, most “MMO” online games have a bumpy road at launch, a la Diablo 3 ;p.

Hope my review was helpful for someone!

Destiny is everything that I expected, and more. I'm not quite sure if I was just all the hype, but the reviews are unjustly negative. I can't help but compare it to my favorite games, such as Borderlands, Skyrim, and of course Halo. The game wows me every time I play it. In the end, don't we just play games to have fun? No, it's not perfect, but Destiny is downright fun!

Destiny, Even with all the hype I went into the game with low expectations. What I had seen while playing over 50 hours was a game I can't get enough of.
The gameplay is very solid and fun with friends. The limited voice chat is nice to avoid trolls and mobs of unwanted banter.

If you enjoy MMOs that had large Grinds. Destiny is for you, you'll be running a lot of the same content over and over until more is released over time/months. There's many things to do and daily/weekly challenges with good rewards.

End-game is also good, Raids being the hardest content I've yet to see in any shooter. Even on par or surpasses Borderlands difficulty.
There is a vast amount of gear and ways to build your character to fit your playstyle.

The best way to put it is, this game will take up a lot of your time if you enjoy progression of your character and gambling chances while identifying gear. The game rewards you over long times and the gear you may acquire won't be the best at times-then that one day you'll get several legendaries in a row and squeal with joy.

The game has small MMO aspects placed with an FPS with good customization.
The best thing I can say to lore seekers and people wanting a Good Story, there isn't much depth-YET. Even though on Bungie.net your grimoire cards you unlock over time do give nice chunks of interesting lore.

I highly recommend this game only if you're a fan of repetitive grinds like I am and have a good group of friends you enjoy playing games with.
Solo-players please avoid this game to prevent disappointment.

Destiny is hard game to rate. I simultaneously hate the story for being a skeleton where a body should be, and am completely unabashedly addicted to it.

You might get a ship, new color patterns for your armor, new weapons, or new armor. Who knows? But just by playing the game you are rewarded.

In PvE you have the equivalent of a looking for group tool a la WoW. Quick, easy, strikes that ensure you get some piece of gear. You have the reputation factions to choose your armor path. Cosmetic items to dump currency into. And you have the epic Vault of Glass that just opened. A truly eye opening experience for the FPS genre. This is what Destiny is. Each expansion will have a new raid, and if they are anything like this initial offering they will be well worth the money.

All of this is wrapped carefully around an incredibly tight shooter at its base. I cannot fathom why there would be such low scores. Even if this were a multiplayer only game with no play (anyone remember Titanfall?) it should get at least a 7. With all its offering and potential it should be at a ten, but the story fell flat, really flat. But don't let that discourage you from playing one of the best FPS offerings since Halo 2.

Solid game. Would like to see more locales. Too much barren waste land. The Dink's voice direction was sub-par. Overall I am greatly enjoying this. I see it more as a great start than a finished product, typical of most MMO's (or MMO style). Can't wait to see what will come from Destiny/Bungie.

Okay, let's get started. It's 2014, four years since Bungie Studio's last game release: Halo: Reach. Since then, the company split from Microsoft and went on to seek new endeavors. That's where Destiny comes in. Destiny has a simple premise, you are known as a "Guardian", protecting humanity, which has been driven back by alien races, and you know stand at the last city of Earth. You choose one of three classes, Titan, Warlock, or Hunter. Next, you choose your race, Awoken, Human, or Exo. This is a pretty standard layout for an MMO but Destiny takes it to a whole new level by involving something we all love -- guns. Destiny is definitely a solid MMORPGFPS if that is what you choose to call it. It feels like "Halo" felt before, but strips away the icon of Master Chief and lets you build your own legend. It has different planets and different gamemodes, such as story missions, strikes (layered battles with oncoming waves of enemies, best done with friends and leave you with rewards), raids (like strikes but can take hours or days, much better rewards and much more in depth when it comes to tactics and organization), and of course the crucible (online multiplayer). Destiny is visually appealing, has optimal customization leaving you searching for more gear and loot, and has enemies from different backgrounds. Despite having a short story selection it has endgame options that allow you to extend your enjoyment of the game. Destiny has weaknesses as well as strengths though. Although it is a mass-mulltiplayer online game, communication is lacking as you can only voice chat within your fireteams (Emotes are your only other option). The story missions can be quite repetitive, and there is not as much personality within the characters as was seen in the Halo series. The loot reward system is flawed as well, decrypting high level engrams usually leaves you with less-than-stellar gear. Despite these issues, Destiny is a fun and engaging experience that I would recommend one at least try. Bungie will be adding more content in the future as well, so don't expect early reviews like mine to sum up the game in its entirety. Bungie has created a very expandable game that will most likely expand as time goes on. Expand

This game is great. Beautiful and very addicting. I'm not sure why the internet wants to hate this game, but don't believe it. This is my favorite FPS for the PS4 yet.

Un buen shooter en primera persona logrado tanto en el modo historia como en las posibilidades para multijugador y cooperativo. No es un must have, pero es recomendable.

Hey, some people want a game for a expansive story. Being it was from the makers of Halo it is fair to have assumed that Destiny would of been a huge involved story. The lore is there, the characters are there but you don't really feel connected to the story.

There are some repetitive gameplay elements. Escort ghost, ghost hacks computer, and then horde mode begins. I am not really worried about this as much as some people are....it reminds me very much of Diablo where you farm for gear in a story mode environment. Some have also compared it to Phantasy Star Online as well.

With my cons out of the way, let me just say that this game is fun. The fun factor trumps and can forgive the few cons that I have. This may not be the same case for everyone, but running around blowing heads off gaining loot, upgrading gear, grinding factions, doing strikes with friends, doing crucible with friends, and just exploring for the chests and dead ghosts is the most fun I have had with a game in a very very long time.

The music and sound effects in the game are great. The sound is immersive and you can hear the mobs all around you, the machines that fire their weapons. The large mobs sound large, the small mobs sound small. The snozberries taste like snozberries....it is great fun.

Some people are going to hate to just hate. In my 30 years of living I have realized there are just negative people out there who pick apart everything. If you can find something good and and enjoyable in the game and it keeps you playing then play it. Instead of finding things that make you miserable find things that make you happy in life. I believe this game haves a little of everything for everyone so....

If you are not one of the millions of people who already have bought the game and you read this write up...then I say it is worth the $60.00. And if you do get it, then I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

I'm having an unbelievably great time playing with friends new and old. I can see myself playing this game for a very long time as it is far deeper than it appears on the surface.

    I love it. 9/10

This game is different. Let's get that out of the way. Everyone will have an opinion of what it is and what it is not. To me, this is a FPS dungeon crawler that lacks in story but makes up for in game play and loot. Multiplayer is bare bones but yet is very fun. Some core items are missing but this game will evolve over time. Even with these items currently not in the game, I can't stop playing.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
