I find Destiny a very difficult game to review as it is describe as a 10 year experience, therefore the story is incomplete and we'll have to wait for all the DLC to come out to know all the story (and if there worth investing some money in it). But at the moment the plot is quite common and forgettable.
The gameplay is easy to manage and fun to play, (we didn't expect less from the creators of Halo) and every FPS users will master it pretty quickly. The graphics are great (specially the light effects), so are the OST and artistic direction (i pictured the Moon exactly the same way it is in Destiny).
Now to the bad points , if you play all the campaign you will have the impression to do the same mission again and again in different locations (except one little phase) and that can be boring especially if you don't play with friends (if you are there is always the thrill of being part of a team to spice the experience). The level-up system is a bit strange once you reach level 20 and it will depend of your luck in looting Legendary items, maybe i just have to get use to it but for the moment it bothers a me a little (you kill bosses and don't gain XP, it feels wrong to me). And finally the PvP mode is really horrible for newcomers, there is absolutely none balancing, if your opponents are 10 levels above yours they'll probably kill you in one shot while you'll have to empty your mag on them in the hope of killing them. Once you're in the big levels it's the most classic PvP you can encounter.

Despite those huge flaws i had fun playing Destiny (especially with friends) and that's why i'm not giving a bad mark. In the hope that future DLCs will really improve the solo experience and be affordable.

First of all, to get the negatives out of the way. The first thing that should strike you is the generic-ness of it - we land on Mars, in what could be a lovely homage to classical sci-fi, but instead we get a bland and basic lecture about The Darkness, which is supposedly engulfing Light, and then you're thrust into the game with The Fallen chasing you with no explanation as to who they are or why they're dangerous, or what they're even for. An excellent demonstration of what we're to expect - embarrassing nomenclature combined with factions and backstory that aren't included in the game itself, you have to go to their website to read up on it.

Undoubtedly a beautiful game, the graphics are wasted on dull level designs, lacking in any significant character. Perhaps my favourite of all of them was Venus, though even that lacked anything that distinguished it from any other garden or jungle type map in any other game. The influences of The Vex on the planet seemed negligible. Nothing seemed to indicate any kind of culture - The Hive's possessed places were identical to that of The Fallen's, only with squishy grey pods on the wall. They all occupied human buildings and never seemed to expand on their own or give themselves any characterisation beyond a different model to shoot at.

It's also disappointing that there are only 4 total free-roam locations, and all of them quite small. There's nothing more annoying than having such a visually stunning game be limited so severely, especially when you spend most of your time inside stock sci-fi metal corridors anyway. The Nav System is practically useless and you can't access any sort of a map, so good luck getting lost while trying to explore for the sake of exploring. You'll be backtracking a lot, and it'll lose a lot of its sense of wonder.

Your character classes are also superfluous, and don't seem to matter. Usually you would need a balanced party to succeed in any serious dungeon-delving experience in any other game like this, but it doesn't seem so here. The classes seem superficially different, with all the same types of skills - a grenade, a double jump, a melee augment, etc. It makes forming a team less fun.

Peter Dinklage's voice acting is also unremarkable, and I chalk this down to bad directing. I understand that behind the mic is a lot different than in front of a camera, but there's no way this man can deliver such excellent performances in the T.V. series and movies that we've seen and yet fall down at even the most basic lines here.

Loot is also randomised, with even Legendary Engrams (item schematics you get decoded into random items) turning up something useless. I trust anybody who's played an MMO shouldn't need the reasons why this sucks explained to them. It does seem Bungie are working on fixing this, though, so that might be a temporary complaint.

I think what makes this game is that it has serious potential. I played it and got hooked, but found everything so... lacking. I'm keeping on with it because I genuinely want to see what Bungie have left to unveil.

I'm sure that most of these problems will be resolved eventually in patches, but as for now it mediocre shooter with loot hording which is more annoying than Diablo 3.

If you have a good group of friends to play with the combat action alone can be enough to pull you through but if you're playing by yourself you will love it for the first 6-10 hours but after it can just become very repetitive due to the lack of story and suspense that a storyline would bring. I really hope that if a sequel is released that Bungie will spend a lot more time on building the story because the game and series has a ton of potential Expand

Forget the online matches, it's poorly matched to players of equal skills and as much fun as CoD (not fun at all).

It looks very nice indeed on the PS4, and the controls and handling are spot on. I can't fault that side of the games development at all. I cannot attest to the games longevity at this point but in small short burts it does have it's moments.

The reviews that people like Angry Joe had about left a very nasty taste in my mouth about the game. However, after my friends convinced me to buy the game since it still received a mediocre review.

When I played it, it was actually very fun. Although the lack of story is a huge problem, I can still get over it as I come into my video games expecting GAMEPLAY. As John Carmack said "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important." And although its probably not there, its the core gameplay that is what should be focused on.

But, this does not mean that gameplay is innocent. Yes, there are moments in the game that feel like Bungie's idea of "difficulty" is shooting for an hour. Yes, what was thought to happen with the games exploration didn't. And yes, the reward system for PVP is horrible (Do bad, get better rewards).

However, if you look past this, then you will find a very solid FPS that can be fun alone or with friends. The game is visually amazing, the gun mechanics are fair, the PVP despite the reward system is great, and if you can get around the other problems then you will find a product than you can play for a little while until something else comes around the corner.

I’m not gonna go into all the pros and cons since they can be found in any other review. I just quickly wanna tell you guys why Destiny isn’t better than a 7 out of 10 for me.

The major reason is its lack of content and things to do, thus resulting in a mindless grind, sooner or later.
There practically isn’t any story to be found, so we can forget that part.
The few strikes that are available are a blast to play, but there are just five of them. Pretty quickly you get tired of them... which removes them from the to-do list, too.
I personally hate PvP, so this feature got removed from my to-do list right from the start. But I heard that the PvP is supposed to be quite good... again, for a while.
My biggest disappointment was the raid. I’ve waited so long to be finally able to actually get into the Vault of Glass (name of the raid) just to find out that it’s plain boring. Please remember, this is my personal opinion. Lots of people love the raid but for me it marked the beginning of the end for me and Destiny.

It’s such a shame since the gameplay and the shooting mechanics are so much fun. The graphics are awesome too and the sound and music could hardly be better.
But all this counts for nothing if there’s nothing to do except to do the same strike, mission, raid over and over and over again… tedious and boring.

Out of protest I’m not gonna buy the expansions since their value is questionable at best… again, in my opinion. Perhaps I pick up Destiny in the future again but at the moment I have no desire whatsoever to continue the mindless grind.

Hyping a game too much is a risky move, and Destiny shows you why. In this review of Destiny I will give my opinions and ratings on the following: Gameplay, Story, Sound, Graphics, and Last Impressions. This will be followed by my final score for the game.

    Gameplay: 8.5/10
    - Destiny is a lot of things, and an excellent shooter is one of them. Bungie knows how to make a shooter and they prove this yet again with Destiny. Controls are responsive, shooting is accurate and fun, and coordinating your attacks with friends/teammates can make the game feel quite tactical.

    Story: 4/10
    - Destiny falls flat on it's face with the poor story telling. It might not even be poor story telling as much as a lack of story telling. The game has very few cutscenes (a total of maybe 5), and they mostly just confused me on my first playthrough. The game attempts to do some story telling through your quest descriptions and bounties, but this mostly feels like "Kill this guy, then we'll scan the environment" over and over again. The game also ends out of no where, but that seems fitting I guess, since the story was a mess from the start.

    Sound: 7/10
    - Nothing special to talk about here. Voice acting is few and far between, but is delivered well enough on those rare occasions someone has something to say. Combat sounds good, and monsters shriek as you'd expect them to. Music is great at times, "pumping" you up for battle, and at other times it's just annoying and overly loud.

    Graphics: 8.5/10
    - The graphics in this game are very good. The different areas you visit are few, but each has it's own look to it and at first they are really incredible. The big problem here is the lack of areas. There are 4 planets, which all look incredible the first few times around, but after you've seen everything a few times, it's all old and dry. Character models and guns look good, as you'd expect from Bungie.

    Last Impressions
    - The biggest problem with destiny is the lack of content. People expecting to get a diverse and expansive experience will be disappointing with Destiny. The game is over before you know it, and then becomes a grind to gain better gear and levels. This can be fun with friends, no doubt, but the lack of content in a game that was supposed to be "enormous" is very disappointing. Destiny is an average game at best, but play with the right people and you can have a decent time playing pretty much anything.

    Final Score: 7/10

And I for one have some friends or family I would LOVE to play Destiny with. So why not, while Bungie has the time to kick back and relax, they add splitscreen and make it so us gamers don't have to purchase a membership to Xbox or Playstation to actually make parties. I don't want to buy a $50 membership just to play in the Crucible, nobody does! Borderlands tripled their campaign with $3 DLCs adding a variety of content, and at its launch they had splitscreen for console users as well as making it so we could have parties of up to 4 people. Bungie, is it so hard to just add a split screen, or make the Crucible free for everyone? I have hope for Destiny and with these things, it could become a legendary game! So...Bungie, I implore you to make a new update with the split screen, a free crucible, as well as adding the DLC missions (HoW, tDB, and TK) to the normal game. This game has very addicting gameplay but doesn't offer enough content to keep you playing. I loved the atmosphere 8/10, the main story should be longer and better 6/10. I paid for the game with all dlcs 28€ so I'm pretty much okay with the game but If I would pre-order it, I would definitely be extremely mad for the content and the expansion pass which doesn't offer anything. I would expect that Expansion pass will offer new worlds and stories like Taken King and Rise of Iron but they are just **** After month, you'll be done with the game and even If you will want to play it again, you will have nothing to do there other than same activities without any rewards like heroic strikes, even nightfall after you hit 400 light. You should be able to get even 410 light but that armor high should drop only in raids. It shouldn't be that easy to get max light. I hope Destiny 2 will be better. Expand

As an individual who has put in many hours of his life into Destiny, I can safely say this game was okay.

With over 15 days worth of time put into my Warlock character, 4 days of time into my Titan, and 6 days of time put into my Hunter, I can say that I have seen a lot of what Destiny had to offer. Whether it be The Dark Below, The House of Wolves, or The Taken King, Destiny has always

With over 15 days worth of time put into my Warlock character, 4 days of time into my Titan, and 6 days of time put into my Hunter, I can say that I have seen a lot of what Destiny had to offer. Whether it be The Dark Below, The House of Wolves, or The Taken King, Destiny has always been struggling to find new ways to keep their players in the game and playing the game.

The mechanics of Destiny are amazing, and what keeps people playing and coming back to the game, with the best first person shooting in a game, in a very long time. However, the content itself gets very stale after repeated attempts to get the gear that you want, as the RNG system is not very forgiving, and having your actual levels based on this is horrible.

The story in Destiny has always been a topic of discussion because, there really is not one, and even recent attempts have improved it, but never brought it to the level that it needed. The real stories came from the players themselves, whether it be from accomplishments, or frustration, the community banded together and pushed the game forward, trying to make the most of it.

Was Destiny a success? Financially, of course, but as a game, it is debatable. There were great moments, and very bad ones, and overall it was more the people that made the game rather than the game. Destiny deserves a 7 if not lower, but the only thing holding it up is the mechanics. We all hope that the next Destiny will be full of more substantial content, but only time will tell.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
