I can easily say that the open environment on planets are awesome. let me explain... a base out in the distance..I get off my ride pull out my sniper rifle and pick out the toughest guy out of the bunch and take him out.... the others scatter looking to hide and they do a very well job of that too...I start flanking.. they notice and regroup...fight continues on or can go all guns out too but its a harder fight that way. Its borderlands and Diablo 3 item collecting added to it and it works well. love the super moves and no one mentioned the perks to your jumps, and grenades, guns with perks you unlock the more you use that gun and much much more. I love the planets each one is very memorable takes you there and draws you into the fantasy setting. I hate nothing more then a level or location that ruins the game this game doesn't do that at all. yes its not perfect cause nothing can be perfect. But from what I played its one of the best FPS I have ever had the privilege of playing. plays like Halo and that's a good thing with light MMO elements tacked on and it works in its favor. sorry cant spell for the life of me hope you understand this. Well if you're into finding loot, getting rewards, playing online Co-OP with friends and playing Online competitive multiplayer for hours upon hours, then go and buy this game. Destiny is great playing alone, but even better when you have 1-4 friends in your fireteam! As for the story, it is a little hidden, but once you get more into it, it's gets really good. Not great, but good. All these negative reviews are just people that are pissed about how "this game isn't even an MMO", but never even read about the game before it's release. Simply put, there is no game on the market that comes anywhere close to what Destiny does. As a game design enthusiast, I feel they just got so much right in this title.

    - The three weapon load out is a golden triangle. Switching between primary, secondary and heavy weapons in pitched battles feels clutch. You have options, but not too many. The power level for each feels highly appropriate. The available combinations to experiment with are numerous. They pioneered this tight + controlled weapon loadout concept in the original Halo and the design language remains strong in Destiny.

    - To continue with the point above, the gameplay and pace for an FPS feels perfect to me. Having the gunfighting component complimented with melee, grenades, and super we see that another golden triangle emerges. Tying stats to these skills was smart. Most all of they make your guardian truly feel *powerful* and unique. The RPG component of this game really has merit and doesn't detract from the FPS elements in the slightest. The skill trees remain fairly balanced between and among classes.

    - While the story was definitely...lacking in plot and exposition, the level + world design has been consistently spot on. Every area feels textured, detailed and respectively thought out. So many beautiful vistas. Travelling through the world on your sparrow can be a pure joy - providing a welcome break from the fettered pace of combat. Another beautiful and under-appreciated design feature.

    - The sound design in this game is the best I've ever come across. No title matches Destiny my honest, humble opinion when it comes to sound effects. Certain exotics are just sound addictive. Sparrows sound amazing. The hugely varied enemies all have amazing triggered sounds upon death and it compliments the FPS mechanics perfectly. You just want to keep popping off enemies.

    - They finally added meaningful multiplayer to an FPS. Competitive PvP is great and all, but what really makes Destiny sweet is the strikes and raids. These are the bread and butter of Destiny and really what make it stand apart from other games on the market. I've been a huge proponent of cooperative gameplay ever since Halo 1 truly pioneered split-screen play. Playing with other humans against AI just makes it so much more involving and fun, it's hard to put a finger on it. The loot from these activities is a huge draw that keeps you coming back for more, reminds me very much of Diablo 2. Completing your first raid feels like a huge accomplishment in teamwork. The feeling is really only matched by a handful of MMORPGs. Bungie deserves all the credit in the world for bringing this not only to FPS players, but to console users as well.

    - The lore is captivating and the entire premise of the world is highly alluring. I love how this is a science fiction title based in our own solar system, not some randomly named star-system we could care less about. The combination of familiarity and wonder really comes together for a backdrop that is truly unmatched for the vast majority of game titles. This is a game I willingly invest myself in because it's just so damn cool. Coolest game I've played in the last decade. This is obviously a highly subjective opinion but I just had to say it.

The dialogue in the game in a little bland, but also inoffensive. The game play has rock solid controls and it feels like a Halo game. The graphics are impressive while not groundbreaking, but the game runs at a steady clip and I've notice no technical problems with it's performance. You have a very limited set of options creating a character before you begin the game allowing you to choose one of three classes, races, and a few options to customize your look. Once you start playing your character grows stronger as you play gaining better equipment as rewards for completeing quests. The most impressive aspect of Destiny in my opinion is is co-operative features that allow you to team up with friends or strangers organically in the game world. I believe it's a cross between Halo, Borderlands, and Call of Duty in some aspects but also believe it is it's own game and very unique. I have played this game every single day since release and find myself thinking about this game when I'm not playing or on the mobile app looking at stats or information. Here is a list and detailed explanation of the pros and cons.

    Pros

The gameplay and combat are superb and the best I've ever seen, from the sounds of the weapons shooting and reloading to the bodies flying a la ragdall style! It is a very satisfying feeling getting a headshot on "The Fallen" (AI you're fighting against)! Every gun looks, feels, and shoots in it's own unique style. You can throw a grenade into a mob full of enemies and watch the bodies fly. Each body shot you do has a different effect on your enemies, shoot them in the leg, they slowly try to get away. PVP is a great example of gameplay and combat because most players will have different weapons and each player uses them differently. I personally recommend hand cannons because of the power with each shot and the feeling of 1 click headshots but someone else may prefer a fully automatic assault rifle using spray & pray. You really "feel" it when you shoot enemies or other players and it just feels right. This is where Destiny is awesome is the combat and weapon system.

The graphis aren't the best I've ever seen but still look impressive on the PS4 to say the least. I have stopped during gameplay just to awe at the landscape because it really looks great. You can see the sun go down and the rays shine through trees and you can forget you are in the middle of a fight with the Fallen. Other characters look really nice, even when you get close up, the textures do not lose their crisp look. This game is somewhat open world but it does still somehow feel kind of "closed" off. You can go almost anywhere but the landscape in the far off distance is not reachable, at least not yet.

Music - The music in Destiny is worthy to take note of. Many of the boss fights become even more epic because of the music that is being played. It really immerses you in the moment and I think it even hightens the situation that much more. The soundtrack is out and getting great reviews already.

I know this game has gotten a lot of negative reviews and many feel it was all hype and didn't deliver. I gave this a 9 and not a 10 because of how much I'm addicted to this game and it's been a long time since I've been this hooked on something. The story is not so great, the story of this game is definetley incomplete and many have been upset about that. I have also been pretty upset about the loot system considering I had successfully completed over 50+ strikes (at about 30+ minutes each) and always came in first place with my amount of kills/assists and etc. and never once won a legendary item. I continued to remain patient and finally started getting legendary and exotic items and now that I'm level 28, I have 4 exotics and full legendary gear/weapons. It will happen, you WILL get great gear but there is no rhyme or reason to it, it is all random no matter how well you perform.

The stories and loot system I beleive or the negative points of this game and the reason I dropped it to a 9 out of possible 10. But the gameplay, music, sounds, graphics, and the POSSIBILITY of getting awesome gear keeps me coming back. I hate this game so much I love it! They got it wrong on some major areas but got it right on some major areas. I play this game because I'm finally getting all this great gear and my character looks bad ass, I can play with my friends and we have a blast in strikes and PVP.

    My advice:

If you have played an MMO where you have grinded the same mobs and maps over and over and over and over to get good gear and you still enjoyed it, get this game!

If you do NOT like playing game that are a grind with the same levels and mobs over and over and over, do NOT get this game!

The most common complaint I see is "boring, grind-fest, you do the same thing over and over." What were you people expecting? Mini-games? Every FPS on the market is repetitive, almost every single game is repetitive. Mechanics are in place, settings that allow you to play the game with those mechanics are in place. You don't play the same level over and over; the levels take place on planets which are each one giant map. You can play the story/strike missions, where you are led through certain areas of the map and certain enemies will be present, or, you can play the free-roam map where you can explore the whole planet while doing side missions.

The multiplayer aspect of this game is perfectly integrated. So, here's something people thought was going to happen; "You arrive on Planet A and everyone who is playing Destiny on Planet A is there with you." This wouldn't work with an MMOFPS; yeah idiots, it isn't an MMORPG because an FPS can never be an RPG! The population is split into separate servers for each instance so there aren't more players than there are enemies!

Destiny is a great game. It is a fun FPS, with plenty of RPG elements, set in a MMO environment. Before I hit level five I was in a party with two other people (strangers) doing missions together, coordinating against the mobs with voice chat. But, the trolls said that the game is easy, right? Well, games have this thing called "difficulty" where you can choose normal or hard, so by playing some missions on hard, we needed to be on the same page and we were! Wow.

It's so strange when so many people 'claim' to have experienced a game that is completely separate from the one I'm experiencing...the one that the people I've played with are experiencing. There are so many people on the internet who seem compelled to unleash their self-loathing, tortured souls onto the accomplishments of others. The same is true here, the press will give people out there a real look at the successes and flaws of Destiny; and I predict the average score will be in the high 8 to low 9 out of 10 range.

The people who reviewed the game and gave it such low scores couldn't have even gotten 1/4 of the way through the content. (Yeah, level cap is 20; but there are multiple end game raids that will take a long time for people to finish). My score is based on the content I've seen, (up to level 10) combined with my evaluation of the systems in place. Borderlands meets Halo in a persistent world (style of gameplay). Graphics are very good (For a PS4 game). The multiplayer component is easy to use and is very important when completing the end-game content or any content, because cooperative and competitive MP is fun... (Really people, did you expect Bungie to create a virtual-world FPS for you to waste your real life on? ITS A GOOD GAME, so go play a different 'repetitive grindfest' if you don't like it.)

P.S. I am mostly a PC gamer, and I haven't played a Bungie game since Halo 2; so I'm not a fanboy or anything like that. This is my actual opinion of the game, which I'm guessing over 200 people (at the time I'm writing this) can't honestly say.

There are some bugs, glitches, and exploits. However, I appreciate the way Bungie is working on these, communicating, and fixing these with the gaming community. All points to Bungie on this.

When you get into Destiny, and if you stay with this game for a while, I doubt you can easily put this game aside for a long time- expansions and sequels.

The best things about Destiny are:
    1. The iron banner multiplayer event.
    2. The raids.
    3. The overall content.
    4. Nightfall strikes.
    5. XUR
    6. Guns.
    7. The joy on dancing with your team or solo.
    8. Grinding - yes, grinding is not bad as you multiple choices on how you grind. -so choose your fun thing and grind away.
    9. The soundtrack.
    10. (Not the least) the multiplayer mechanics - probably the best in the market.

The only flaw or negative comment on my part will be that the release of content is pretty slow. If we had a bit more content available now rather than waiting for the next Dlc, more people will resist switching to alternate games that release in the gaps between the DLCs.

This game certainly stands out and ahead of the crowd.

~~2~ THE COMPANY IS EVIL~ (Bungie)
~And this is a big deal..That story of Bungie ripping off and trying to silence the composer/music director for Bungie is ALL TRUE..And it horrified me...Don't downplay this story my fellow gamers...
because Bungie not only fired the guy, but they kept ALL HIS STOCK IN THE COMPANY. We are talking about 80 Million dollars in stock or whatever the amount was...
*He destroyed Bungie in court and Bungie got yelled at by the Judge for using pathetic Tactics in the courtroom to make it appear like they achieved even a small victory...ALL OF THIS IS 100% TRUE AND CAN EASILLY BE GOOGLED...
~So yeah,,i can ignore Bungie and pretend they are the good ole boys from Halo 1 + 2 and the VICTIMS of Microsoft and they finally got independence. but all the rumours were TRUE about THIS GAME, DESTINY getting nerfed and broken up into pieces...

~~This story was gutted and this is another huuuge story and the reason the score is 78 or 79 instead of the 97 or 98 It woulda shoulda gotten had the game not been cut by 75%..
    YES 75% IS MISSING...

***GREED WON THE DAY AND Bungie reputation took a Hillary style hit...
**I recently returned to Destiny after I bought the newest dumb expansion for $40 bucks..(lame)

**and I was amazed at the control and shooting mechanics...In the eyar off I took, I played Metal gear Solid V for 6 months str8, and I played FARCRY 4,,FARCRY PRIMAL(garbage) and The Division..And both these games are mediocre with guns and control compaired ot DESTINY...
I cant say this enough...But the company is really bad and the rumors I heard about missing content is I suspect TRUE..and that means Bungie is a slave to Activision..Thats the price of theyre freedom from Microsoft...
***Had DESTINY been made by Bungie under Microsoft = we woulda had Game of the year and a legend along the Lines of Halo 1 +2....Activision + Bungie allowed Greed to take control and that sound guy is a eff'n Hero....Bungie/Activision DESTROYED his reputation like Hillary did the women Bill Clinton fed D*** too....This man is a hero who yes wanted his money,,but the reason Bungie fired him was because he took a stand and stood up to activision........EVERYONE WHO IS A GAMER MUST READ THAT STORY....

Atmosphere - 8.5 (playing on PS3 doesn't help much but is acceptable) Graphics= for PS3 I'll give 9 Gameplay 8 it's nice, it is not a golden joystick gameplay but its pretty decent.

The game is silky smooth, it's gorgeous, challenging, and rewarding when you beat bosses.

I suppose it's the cool thing to hate what is popular in the nerd community. Anything cool has to be 'theirs' and undiscovered by the masses. Don't listen to them. This is as good as any Halo but with better visuals. So if you like Halo give it a try...unless you are an xbot who will hate it simply because it's multi-plat

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Destiny is a game really well. I love pvp I find it better than Halo even though I am a fan of Halo . Halo license is for me finished, I replaced by Destiny .

However, the scores attributed to Destiny are quite wrong as Watch Dogs I made scammed by marketing. There I had no surprises, it was exactly the game I expected.

    Positive:
    - Really balanced PvP (level 2 finish first and I had the grenade on me 22/9 ) and the gameplay is very dynamic
    - PvE ( dungeon , etc.) is short but mostly for multiplayer gaming or with her friends.
    - Communication is very well done, you do not expect players to insult you . And when a friend joins you expect vs directly , it's a real positive.
    - The life span is the longest of all fps
    - Interface and I ergonomist is made with respect to the mojorité games.
    - The character designs are very nice .
    - The environment on ps4 is very beautiful, I love watching the moon the stars.
    - The qualities I see a lot because it's my job as a designer ergonomic but I think many do not realize .
    - The Star Wars next spring much, being a fan of SW , I love the super jump and spaceship :) Light = Force

    Negative:
    - Yet it is the biggest pillar of a game except for the call of . The narration is very poor, you have little bit of immersion and cinematic in this universe yet very great.

Bungie 's mission is successful, with the FPS half MMO . Critics who do not fit the game I played .

Once again gamers let their expectations of a game get so high, there was no way Bungie could ever live up to it. let's look at the facts. Bungie has developed four Halo games that everyone loved and they received extremely high scores from critics. These games only had a couple of alien races as enemies. The games all consisted of tight shooting controls, great soundtracks, single player game play, cooperative game play, and competitive multiplayer. Destiny is designed to be like Halo with many more options in the hands of the players. Halo had zero character upgrade and development features. Halo did not have a loot system or armor and weapon customization like Destiny has. Halo campaigns were only around 8-12 hours long. Nobody ever complained about the length of Halo games, or the lack of story, or the lack of enemy types. Now with Destiny, everyone acts like they were promised a 100 hour RPG or MMO. What Bungie has done here is take the Halo formula we all love and added character customization, weapon and armor upgrades, a loot system and awesome matchmaking systems that allow players to group up in fireteams and play together when they want. Public events and strike missions also make exploring the over world much more enjoyable than a linear map with sandbox battles. Just like with the Halo games, Bungie has created an awesome shooter experience with more character advancement and play options than ever before. The controls are tight, the soundtrack is fantastic, and the matchmaking systems work very well for the new generation of games. All the critics need to go back and look at their very own Halo reviews, and figure out how they can possibly give Destiny a lower score when so many new options have been added. The only reasoning is that once again, everyone set their expectations way too high. Every now then you have to utilize some common sense and ask yourself about the "fun" factor. Is this game fun to play? In my opinion, it's the funnest game Bungie has ever developed, therefore I'm giving it a score that it actually deserves! Thanks Bungie, keep the content coming. Expand

I don't understand how anyone can give this game less than an 8/10 their is something wrong going on when a game like Fez can get a 90 and destiny a 77.

I specifically avoided most of news, teasers, spoilers, gameplay trailers, cinematic trailers & other hype material before release. I wanted to approach the game with fresh mind. All such huge titles sprout a lot of expectations, and part of the community that just hates on the title. After many hours of play for two days now I immensly enjoy the game, and got quite hooked.

    -1 point from 10/10 for:
    - mob similarity
    - predefined starting zone when you go on a patrol mission
    - main hub is kinda "meh" in design. Not bad, but not really good either

    What I loved:
    - Weapon/armor design
    - Artistic environmental design
    - Great sci-fi feeling
    - Huge locations
    - Coop with a friend is awesome

Big and awesome game from Bungie. Ambitious, beautiful and incredibly addictive. The game has a high barrier to entry, but consistent flow of information and friendly user interface does not deprive you of the pleasure, and help to get involved and become a... legend!

Those saying it lacks content haven't gotten past level 8-14 as the game keeps you interested by slowly revealing more and more to you as you go. The game may not live up to everyone's expectations, but frankly no game ever does, with that in mind Destiny excels in delivering a fun and involving gameplay structure which draws you in from beginning to end. Granted, this is an opinion, as is everything that follows, I personally love Destiny, it's my favorite FPS of all time, and I have played the likes of Halo, Borderlands, CoD, Battlefield, The Darkness, Half Life 2, etc. I have played Destiny for 20+ hours and still have so much I want to explore, upgrade, and play through.

That statement I made above about being involving does not quite include the story, as it is rather flat, which is a shame because it has the foundations for an amazing story, I only hope the expand upon it in another game. The beginning of the story showed much promised, louring me into the world, wondering what may occur as the story progressed, although it never quite delivers, rather it starts to fade a bit at the 1/4-1/2 mark of the campaign missions where it starts to lose it's focus and traction.

To sum up the gameplay, think the smooth and stylish aiming of Halo, with the grittier down to Earth sway and kickback of Borderlands. The admittedly aren't as many enemies as in some other games like borderlands, but there are enough to keep it as fresh as Halo was throughout it's campaign, and enough to mix up things. The 'repetition' that many refer to can be said for most any shooter really, whether you are playing Borderlands and have to constantly do 'collect these parts' missions, or 'go here, kill him, and get that' stuff. Same goes if you play Halo or any other shooter where it all comes down going there and killing that, which is really the only true repetition you get in Destiny. There will be missions where you do start at the beginning of the map, exactly where you start for the next two missions on the same planet, but frankly this isn't as bad as people make it out to be, you merely jump on your sparrow and zoom off to a usually new area of the map that you didn't get to go to in the last mission. It is literally a 1-2 minute affair. I feel the only reason people see any repetition is do to the fact that the story really does not drive you to care about what you are doing, though really if you come to enjoy the gameplay like I did then it's more than enough to inspire you. Loot, as well as it's progression is where the game thrives, along with gunplay. From the start you get weapons that you can't quite equip as it requires a (very slightly, usually 1 or 2) level up.The weapons don't have the variety of effect as Borderlands, but frankly not many FPS games can say they do, though frankly I enjoy using my Pulse Rifle or Fusion Rifle any day over Borderlands inaccurate explosive machine guns or range-drunk shotguns any day.

As I was saying with the world, it draws you in and never lets you go as you explore each world and it's crevices. The environments are HUGE, even if you don't know it, as quite often there are paths hiding secret ways deeper into the map. The first time I jumped on a sparrow heading to a new location through a secret valley was the moment I realized how much I loved Destiny. As you traverse these beautiful world you will occasionally come across others, though you never really team up with them but it give you a sense of placement.

The score and overall personality of the world is of of Destiny's great triumphs, it is easily one of the best looking games currently in existence. Note: not in a hyper realistic way, while it is detailed and the lighting and texture as generally realistic, it is fantasy styled.

Content is as follows: campaign, constant gain of new and powerful guns and armor (some armor makes you feel like an total badass), strike missions both on planet and separate (kind of like story, but harder and with a team), multiplayer (standard affair but with the twist of having fantastical abilities=fun), bounties (something that is meant to be done alongside other missions, boring if focused entirely on), as well as community events, which hopefully become more regular. The strikes and multiplayer is what will keep people busy as they are the best means of upgrading armor. The multiplayer being the main draw should be no major surprise as with Halo the multiplayer is what kept people playing for a while. That being said I have played 20 hours and just beat the story so that's pretty long.

All and all Destiny is a great, though not entirely perfect game, though should not be held back by hyped up dreams. So is Destiny worth a $60 buy, absolutely, one of the best next gen game on the market at the moment and likely to hang around for a bit.

Stop comparing it to other games that are not part of its genre.

I personally thought it was a semi-finished masterpiece. I played it for a solid weekend with two other friends. It was very entertaining and addicting, I couldn't put it down. The gameplay was fun and varied, the guns were fun and exciting to use (besides the fact that rocket launchers are **** useless). The boss battles were stressful and rewarding in the end.

The majority of people writing reviews of this game are giving it a bad review because they are comparing it to games that have nothing to do with it. Remember that Destiny is supposed to be a ten year long game full of DLC and new content. For all those people freaking out because people are giving it such a bad time understand that nobody liked Diablo 3 when it came out. In conclusion, although Destiny is lots of fun now, it will take sometime before it develops into what may be one of the greatest games of the new generation.

Unlike Steam, there is no way to know if some of these 0-2 ratings are just pale-faced trolls, but hey, if they don't like it, they're entitled. But there is no way this game deserves a rating of under 7. Not a chance in hell. Graphics are just fine....this game was under production way before the next-gen consoles were released. I judge FPS's by one main attribute: feel...and it feels great. The RPG elements are there, although I'm a little puzzled at the functions of some of the items I'm acquiring. I'm only level 18, so I'm sure that they will present their usefulness at some point. Gotta give this a 9. And arguable 9, but a 9 nonetheless. What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
