Average game, not a MMO, think Borderlands with the same "want all the phat lewt" mindset.
So it may apear gindy, and unfair to fighting peeps who have grinded beter weapons to you.

Races are bit of a drag since there just reskins, besides the exo.

Game is fun if you want to play with a few friends.
I give it a 6 not good, not bad, just average.

Where do I begin in this game?
Firstly you cannot play it without an internet connection, which means that it is just as bad as the xbox one when you have to check in to play single player.
Secondly if you think this game is co-op you are sadly sadly mistaken. Each map or mission has a limit to the amount of players that are online in that area and sadly the limit is 3 YES including YOU.

Thirdly when you go into a boss fight it you and only you, no friends or other multiplayers allowed in the area, oh and whats worse is that a "ban on respawn" appears on the screen, which means if you die, thats it sorry you start the mission again...
Fourthly and this will take the cake, this game runs on bungie servers, which means if you want to play single player (remembering it requires connection) and their servers are down then, too bad you cant play single player.

This game sounds like watch dogs??? where it was over inflated and set out to be something that sadly is not.

Anyways it could just be me, whats your response?

It's a decent enough game if you disregard all the hype surrounding it. Does it change the FPS or MMO formula? No. But its obvious now that Bungie wasn't even trying to do that. They just wanted something for next-gen that they could be financially successful with, so they put the barest minimum of effort into the game and marketed the hell out of it. As someone who's played the Alpha AND Beta, everything in the final version of Destiny is what I came to expect. The world is unique and inspiring, the weapons sound great and there's plenty to do that will last you for weeks.

It might not be the game for everyone, but for me, Bungie have made another solid game.

I don't know, my score will range from 5-7 on this game and nothing more. I give it a 5 because I simply don't like this auto-aim type gunplay. The hype machine was strong with this one but unfortunately the game failed to live up to the hype. This review is based purely on single-player and PvE experience as I have yet to delve into the PvP content.

The main problem with Destiny stems from the basic pitfall which arises in almost any genre--it's repetitive, to a fault. Everything from the story to the gameplay to the music feels as if it has been done a million times before and that's because it has. This isn't necessarily a bad quality. Games like Diablo or WoW or even most MOBA games relish in their repetitiveness. The formula for these games is to hold a constant carrot-on-a-stick for the players to entice them to keep playing and keep advancing their characters. Destiny attempts to accomplish the same thing but misses out on much of the charm of the aforementioned games.

To begin with, the story feels rather uninspired and souless. Characters are not compelling and, while the history of the universe seems interesting and unique, seldom is the player actually made to care for it. To compound this problem, the plot is a standard "save the world" storyline and does little to deviate or revise upon that narrative. For Bungie, a company which is known for their elaborate and fascinating narratives, Destiny is huge step backwards.

The core gameplay itself is very solid, though not entirely innoative. Progression feels very fluid and natural. Players are given missions (similar to quests in games like WoW or Diablo), most of which are unlocked in subsequent order, in which they partake to earn rewards and experience. Again, the repetitive factor must be taken into account, as variation and innovation in mission design is stale and uninspired. The challenge to take down many mobs or even elite mobs seems the same with little variety thrown in. Most elite mobs wield extremely powerful weapons which force players to take cover every few seconds. This results in long and often tedious encounters and while there are technically three separate classes, their abilities and play styles all result in the same basic tactics--shoot until you are hit and then take cover to regen your shield. Rinse and repeat ad nauseum until the mob(s) is/are dead.

This boring play style is made even worse by the fact that the three classes are not separated by any unique play styles as should be expected from any game with multiple classes. This is where the real failure of Destiny lies. A game like Borderlands, for all of its faults, manages to accomplish the task of creating unique player classes. A gunzerker could run and gun and rely on life steal/extreme toughness to survive. An assassin could go stealth to get out of combat or into a more advantageous position. With Destiny, none of these options are viable. The only viable strategy is to take some pot shots and then take cover. To this end, Destiny is a failure of game design.

Still, the feeling of an open world, MMO environment makes up for some of the pitfalls. Groups in Destiny are known as Fireteams and can consist of up to four separate players. Players won't have trouble finding groups, even random ones, to team up and take on missions. This may be the one factor that saves Destiny from being one of the biggest blunders in video games history, as the game is greatly enhanced when playing with other people.

The other thing of note is the graphics, which are among the best of the next-gen consoles. Unfortunately, the same can not be said about the art direction, as most maps and missions take place in dilapidated or destroyed environments and buildings. Still, the graphical output is fantastic to look at and brings the production qualities of the game up a notch.

At the end of the day, Destiny is a mediocre product which offers little in the way of innovation. It has serviceable gameplay and a solid multiplayer atmosphere. Outside of these things, it's a lesser Borderlands (and for the record, I don't even think Borderlands is that great of a game either).

PROS: Great graphics, solid core gameplay, fluid character progression, strong music, strong multiplayer experience.

CONS: Extremely Repetitive, redundant combat tactics, limited options, classes feel unimportant, bland environments.

The thing is though is that this game will only get better as time goes on. They have created a game were they can add endless content. They can add different types of multiplayer and loot. Right now this game is a solid 9, but I believe it has the potential to get very close to a 10. There simply aren't any other games were you can just add endless content. The most common complaint I see is "boring, grind-fest, you do the same thing over and over." What were you people expecting? Mini-games? Every FPS on the market is repetitive, almost every single game is repetitive. Mechanics are in place, settings that allow you to play the game with those mechanics are in place. You don't play the same level over and over; the levels take place on planets which are each one giant map. You can play the story/strike missions, where you are led through certain areas of the map and certain enemies will be present, or, you can play the free-roam map where you can explore the whole planet while doing side missions.

The multiplayer aspect of this game is perfectly integrated. So, here's something people thought was going to happen; "You arrive on Planet A and everyone who is playing Destiny on Planet A is there with you." This wouldn't work with an MMOFPS; yeah idiots, it isn't an MMORPG because an FPS can never be an RPG! The population is split into separate servers for each instance so there aren't more players than there are enemies!

Destiny is a great game. It is a fun FPS, with plenty of RPG elements, set in a MMO environment. Before I hit level five I was in a party with two other people (strangers) doing missions together, coordinating against the mobs with voice chat. But, the trolls said that the game is easy, right? Well, games have this thing called "difficulty" where you can choose normal or hard, so by playing some missions on hard, we needed to be on the same page and we were! Wow.

It's so strange when so many people 'claim' to have experienced a game that is completely separate from the one I'm experiencing...the one that the people I've played with are experiencing. There are so many people on the internet who seem compelled to unleash their self-loathing, tortured souls onto the accomplishments of others. The same is true here, the press will give people out there a real look at the successes and flaws of Destiny; and I predict the average score will be in the high 8 to low 9 out of 10 range.

The people who reviewed the game and gave it such low scores couldn't have even gotten 1/4 of the way through the content. (Yeah, level cap is 20; but there are multiple end game raids that will take a long time for people to finish). My score is based on the content I've seen, (up to level 10) combined with my evaluation of the systems in place. Borderlands meets Halo in a persistent world (style of gameplay). Graphics are very good (For a PS4 game). The multiplayer component is easy to use and is very important when completing the end-game content or any content, because cooperative and competitive MP is fun... (Really people, did you expect Bungie to create a virtual-world FPS for you to waste your real life on? ITS A GOOD GAME, so go play a different 'repetitive grindfest' if you don't like it.)

P.S. I am mostly a PC gamer, and I haven't played a Bungie game since Halo 2; so I'm not a fanboy or anything like that. This is my actual opinion of the game, which I'm guessing over 200 people (at the time I'm writing this) can't honestly say.

Re-visit the same locations over and over in "Old Russia" and fight the same types of enemies. Sense of character progression is missing and nearly existent, despite the skill tree. It's missing all of the charm and fun that games like Borderlands 2 deliver on and feels like another generic shooter that's trying to be an MMO (eg. Defiance). In the COMPETITIVE mode, it is an even sadder story. You can not communicate at all to the competition or say "good game" between matches, and even more mind boggling - you can not even talk to your whole team unless they're on your friends list and you've added them to your squad as well. You heard me right - they thought it was a smart idea to create a competitive team game where you cannot communicate and coordinate with others, only your friends. So much for a connected game. The radar also shows you where every enemy is, all the time. So there is very little excitement and ambushing people in the competitive, and less challenge in the story mode. Please don't devalue my review or dismiss it it as being a "troll" because I'm not rating this game very highly. I wasn't paid to praise it so I'm giving an honest impression of what I felt after spending $60 on this product.

The game probably had a higher marketing budget (and funds allocated to expensive Hollywood actors) than it did for the game design department. Let me breakdown my impressions in a bulleted format:

    PROS:
+ Soundtrack: An absolutely amazing orchestral score makes the setting feel epic!
+ UI Art: The menus and interface art is reminiscent of Jules Verne and old-school H.G. Wells. It's gorgeous and deserves kudos.
+ Gunplay: Aside from a heavy reliance on iron sites (something that afflicts a lot of console shooters), the gunplay feels very much like it was lifted from Halo - which, if you're a fan of Halo, you'll enjoy.

    CONS:
    - Lack of Open World: Destiny is no more an MMO than Dead Island. The heavily instanced missions feel less like "planets" and more like a very small collection of maps. You select a mission, watching a loading screen, start the map and kill a bunch of enemies. Rinse/repeat.

    - Lack of Enemy Diversity: After hour 5, killing the same handful of enemies gets VERY boring. I don't feel any sense of progression when I'm killing the same Dregs and Shanks from minute 1. This feels exceedingly more awful as more and hours pass.

    - UI Design: Sure, the UI art is amazing (can't praise it enough actually), but the design is downright awful. It was clearly designed for a mouse pointer and yet we're playing (as of now) a console exclusive game with analogue sticks to navigate menus. The overall user-experience is clunky and needlessly frustrating.

The icons are completely arcane and I have no idea what I'm looking at when I see them. Since there is little color use, I'm left guessing what the obscure shapes mean...and I'd had better luck teaching myself Japanese. Also, why does my Waypoint vanish? Who thought that was a good idea? I'm constantly summoning Dinkbot so I can see where I'm supposed to go because the waypoint vanishes after a few seconds. That's an extra step that is completely unecessary.

    - Poor Mission Design: The formula become increasingly boring after the second or third time of killing swarms of identical baddies that act the exact same way over and over again. Since we're expected to do this several times (see: grind), the laziness of the poor mission structures really become apparent. I'm only on Day 1 of this game and I'm already growing bored with it.

    - Cringeworthy Lore/Writing: Peter Dinklage is getting all sorts of crap for his terrible VO acting in this game and I find that completely unfair - it's not the acting, it's the terrible writing. No amount of Hollywood star power can turn a bad script into Shakespeare. The premise is overwrought, the delivery is awful and I really don't even like hearing the creature names ("That wizard came from the moon!").

    - Boring Core Game Loop: Destiny feels like a re-skinned version of Borderlands 2 but lacks the addictive draw that game has: loot-chasing. There is no real instant gratification of seeing items drop from slain enemies and having to repeat the same boring scenarios only to receive a random number generated loot prize in a victory screen feels less compelling.

    - Reliance of Others For Fun: This was the game breaker for me. On more than one occasion, I was grouped with mute strangers that were either terrible players (stirred up the hive and then died, forcing me to contend with an increased difficulty curve of enemies that were often frustrating to deal with) or I was the noob that simply followed in the wake of someone else clearing the mission's enemies before I could even get a shot off. Both scenarios felt terrible.

    - Obscenely Long Loading Screens: these loading screens can reach up to a minute in length and when you're merely traveling from a menu map to the non-action hub location, sitting through the same spaceship cutscene loading screen again and again becomes difficult to tolerant.

    - Last-Gen Design: This game was clearly designed for the 8 year old Xbox 360/PS3 hardware because the maps have a lot of view occlusion (they're not as open as most PC shooters) and often feel hamstrung by last-gen limitations (particularly the number of players you can see, have in your group and can fight each other. The only thing you're getting with the PS4 version is an increased display resolution and some material resolution enhancements.

    FINAL WORD:
I'm angry at myself for falling for the marketing the hype (seriously, this game was hyped more than the World Cup). It's not an MMO Shooter and I don't see it having any longevity. I'm hoping I can get a decent trade-in credit for this game because $60 was a lot of money for me and I really don't like wasting it. There are much better games out there that you could spend your $60 on and not feel bored an hour into playing.

A huge set of worlds to explore, great weapons to choose from, plenty of upgrades for your character. What's not to like. It's was well worth the wait but I do think some reviewers do hype themselves up far to much and go way over the top with expectation. It's a beautiful looking game and deserves all the plaudits it gets, congratulations Bungie.

One of the best shooters I've played. The customization options are great. PVP is amazing and fast paced. It's a great game to just pick up and jump into. It feels like a no grind mmo. Strikes are amazing and very rewarding. You can even scale them for the more experienced player! This is a great game for anyone who loves shooters but is just tired of the same old thing. While the game does look good on outdated consoles, I recommend it for the PS4 or Xbox1 to really experience the beauty of the game. Expand

After reading all the reviews, I am pretty certain negative reviewers didn't play the game at all, and just want to troll people excited about the game. Bad: Generic story, generic setting Good: Incredibly smooth to play, the graphics are good on PS3 Innovative: I found the AI to be engaging and challenging.

First things first: Its not a halo clone if the creators of the game are the original creators of halo. 2: This game is fun as hell, like it or not I keep on coming back to it. The free rome environment feals so great and the game does look pretty on PS4. Sure, people say its "A borderlands rip-off" But borderlands is a great game with a great game style mechanics. I love this game, and you need to play it as well. Sure, its not so much of an MMO but sure as hell you will be socializing... A lot... Overall, its fun, and it is better than Watch_Dogs... for sure... Expand

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
