Overall, it sucks. Here is why. The voice chat is extremely limited. I did not find this out until tonight. I thought voice chat in multiplayer was a given. What good does it do to explore worlds if you can't talk to anybody? I got bored out of my mind playing it because of this. So, only get this game if and when your friends have it and are available to play it with you. That is the only way you'll ever enjoy it. So, I thought I was a getting a huge multiplayer game that I might make some friends on, but no. You can't make friends if you can't communicate. The reasons Bungie gives for this are so stupid I won't ever buy one of their games again. I feel ripped off. Why didn't they talk about this at E3? No, it's just some little side story on an article you don't come across unless you actually search it.

NO singleplayer offline is totally insane, how can I love the game without a clue what the story is! since i do not have friend to buy this, its so hard to enjoy it, bungie clearly has the ambition, but it's not a great online game, please make another halo-like game cause its your strong suit, and by the way, it's not even close to borderlands.

So, I have been playing this game for about 15 hours and I have so say that it is not the game changer that we all thought it would be. Overhyped crap just like titanfall and watch dogs. Its boring and repetitive and it plays just like any other fps. I honestly want my money back.

I thought release version would be different from beta, but i was wrong. This game sucks. Its not MMO. Its a rip off Borderland. All you do is grinding, grinding and grinding the same mission. Go to point A and kill wave of npc, then go to B and do the same thing. For 60 $ you will get poor plot full of cliches, a lack of content, silly AI. It doesn't even feel like its a big social world. Because all you see is 3-4 people on hunting grounds and 10-15 in city . And there are even no tools to communicate with them properly. PVP feels like downgrade from their previous games, Halo.
And don't forget that Activion in the house. So you will see a LOT OF DLC, Wanna new content - buy DLC.

Bosses have just one move pattern, shoot. They don't react dynamically and don't have any special move. The game's boss design is absolute failure.
Enemies don't drop guns. so how dare can it be compared with Borderlands?
Mission design is linear rail shooter. And it doesn't have any escape scene, turret scene, melee-only scene, stealth scene, even sniper scene like old BF3. Just run and gun style and do we happen to be living in those 90s once again?

The game just feels like its on repeat it gets annoying you cant talk to no one its a antisocial game its just a mess this saddens me after all the hype reminds me of watchdogs flop

    Home from midnight release:
Setting up: Vanguard DLC doesn't work. I'll think 'whatever, I'll get it tomorrow or the day after.
Load the game: marionberry error, cannot connect to servers. Can't play game = can't review. Terrible way to make first impressions

I had fairly high hopes for this game. It was fun at first, but quickly became monotonous and boring. It looks beautiful and controls well. Unfortunately, the story is very weak and the combat is repetitive and lacks variety.

Each planet feels very empty with only randomly spawning enemies to fill in the spaces, sometimes a random event will spawn but those can take up to 2 hours and end in roughly 2 minutes...there's no way to communicate with the other people unless they are in your fireteam, no squad commands or nothing, dont come on Destiny looking to make any friends or play cooperatively, communicating with other players was not a priority in Bungie's pseudo MMO multiplayer shooter

The game isn't bad by any means, if you like borderlands you'll love Destiny, but if your like me and don't enjoy that kind of game Destiny is just painfully average!

The games story is a joke, story missions have little to no variety to them and a vast majority of the dialogue is exposition, it's a shame the universe is very interesting. I just wish Bungie put a story in it instead of having story missions be encyclopedias.

Gameplay is very much like borderlands, with far less loot. Levels are decently sized, and varied. Space travel essentially acts as a loading screen, which screams wasted potential. When you land on the planets, or levels, they act as a sort of open world, and it's dull. Like I said they are large, but there is just no story to them, it's just an open world with enemies sitting in an area waiting to be shot. The game isn't skill based (unless it's PVP), it's level based, which was annoying for me. PVP is great, it's easily the best part of the game, very satisfying, very competitive, and very addicting!

The graphics are great, and they left me wanting more. When looking at the games gorgeous backgrounds I repetitively said to my friend "I wanna go there!" sadly I could not.

Destiny is just an average game, it's not next gen at all in terms of gameplay (no manual space travel or large planets to explore.) In the end it's a good game, but it could have been fantastic.

Remind me of the good old days when playing WOW was still fun for me. My main complaint would be the lack of non-hostile creatures in the environments which I have explored so far. These environments should have hoards of roaming "whatevers" that could be accidentally aggroed, used as a distraction for enemies, ect. The 10 is to balance out the 1's- this game deserves a 8 so far with me, hoping the end game brings that up to a 9. Expand

First off, anyone giving this game less than 6 is reviewing it based on some missed expectation that they had, and not based on the game as it stands.

The story missions were fun, though playing them on hard is a necessary for anyone looking for any kind of challenge with a fireteam. When I took the time to actually look around, some of the environments I was taken too where quite impressive. Whenever I started to feel bored with the single player a new planet would open up, bringing new environments to explore and new enemy types. The story itself was easily dismissed by many, but I found that if I actually listened to everything and payed attention to why I was doing things it was more enjoyable. I think it didn't resonate with more people because storytelling would frequently happen without taking a break from the game. You would be running around and collecting ammo or whatever usually while the narrator (ghost) was talking and the dialogue just didn't pop out as much.

The content opens up a lot after lvl 20. The strike missions on heroic/impossible difficulties presented a great challenge for fireteams and made teamplay a necessity. I didn't get a chance to try out the 6-man raids though...

PvP is a lot of fun, and I can see myself spending a lot of time there. I'm really a CoD/BF player that enjoys single player/coop games like Borderlands and Mass Effect on the side. The matches I played in the crucible were exciting and the map variety was decent. Many people felt that in the Beta there was no weapon to use outside of the automatic rifle, but I felt like each weapon type could be successful with an appropriate change in tactics (though I believe the day one patch had a bit to do with balancing it out). You don't sprint into the middle of a firefight with a revolver any more than you would snipe with a shotgun. Being able to change your weapon loadout mid-match is a great feature, as it gives you the ability to change up your strategy based on the map and the enemies tactics.

I felt like there were some missed opportunities though. More mission variety would have been nice. For example, there was one mission in particular where you picked up a big sword and held off a wave of enemies with a brutal sword/melee attack. It presented a slight change of pace, an opportunity to feel overpowered (without actually being so, as you would get your ass kicked by the elites if you spent too much time in melee range). Most of the missions were similar "go here, kill guys, kill an elite/boss, go home" type missions, mixing attacking new areas with defending against incoming waves. Maybe more missions where you did a lot with vehicles, or got into turrets, or any other single player FPS tropes. I also felt like there wasn't enough loot drops. When it takes 10 minutes and/or multiple attempts to take down a boss, have him drop a cool weapon or gadget for the lower levels. There was more loot in end game content, but getting there takes a while and the lack of rewards from killing bosses was taxing when going through the story the first time. Also, I miss the big multiplayer matches (8v8 or 12v12) in multiplayer, and the vehicle variety in both single and multiplayer. A few Halo-esque vehicle missions would have been a welcome addition to the story missions. To say that the movement and gunplay didn't feel at least a little Halo-esque would be a lie, and I want my blood gulch!

Overall it is a solid game, with loads of content. I felt like it had a little bit of something for everyone, with a enjoyable campaign for casual, a solid end-game for hardcore, and fun PvP for that crowd. I can assume some of the things I thought were missing had to be cut based on the amount of development time they had in creating these massive worlds and multiple ways to experience it. Hopefully we see the addition of some of those things with the upcoming expansions, and we don't have to wait until "Destiny 2" to get it. I for one look forward to spending a lot of time gearing up multiple classes and having fun in multiplayer for now. See you on the battlefield!

Ps4 has the best and smoothest graphics, my brother has an xboxone, you can see the difference. AI will defend and pullout if in danger, boss battles are boss battles, you will spend some time defeating them. The only reason for a 9 is that you can't chat with just anyone, only people in your fire team. I would like to think a patch will open this up down the road. Good job Bungie! Expand

Graphically the game is unreal and the framerate at least on the PS4 is smooth and rarely hiccups. The gameplay itself is an awesome blend of Halo and Borderlands, the exploration, story and strike modes are awesome, and the multiplayer aspect here is great, with other players wandering in and out of your adventures, but due to the way the game is designed, the only way other players can effect your game is positively, they can't attack you or steal items from you, only help you wipe out a particularly rough enemy or lead the way to a new area originally unknown to you. If you want to smash other players heads in of course there's always the crucible, which is the player vs player multiplayer aspect and has all the traditional fixins from deathmatch to capture the flag and control. The story is in depth and interesting, and has the occasional out of left field gameplay (the sword of crota mission is unreal).

There are more than enough things to do in the game that it is a solid investment, and whether you want to be social or play like a lone wolf, you can do both seamlessly (though the strikes and raids will auto match you up with other players because alone they're legitimately almost impossible). The game, however, needs to be constantly online, so whether you want to play alone or with friends, it works in a similiar vein as world of warcraft, where the world is shared with everyone.

All in all the game scores a perfect 10 out of me, the only gripe I have is Peter Dinklage not being a very good voice over artist. If you buy one more game all year, please make it this one. Hope I see you online.

As with most mainstream gaming fans, players seem incapable of providing an opinion between these extremes. Metacritic should just use an "Enjoy" or "Did not enjoy" rating system for user reviews, because people seem to be tragically incapable of providing honest, balanced, sane user reviews.

You'll have morons giving a 0 when they can't launch the game, or a 0 due to one small feature bothering them. That's not a 0 folks. You wait until you can play to review, and in the case of a single feature that irks you, you balance your score around that negative and the positives.

Stop embarrassing yourself and other gamers with these polarized extremes. Destiny isn't a 0, come on! It's certainly a baseline 6 or greater title, by any objective measure of recent game releases.

Look at some of these 0 scores. They come from people who gave 10 to the last Call of Duty and 0 to Grand Theft Auto V, or vice-versa. We're talking about people with chips on their shoulders, personal vendettas, zero perspective, or a chronic disability with communication.

Grow up. Destiny is easily a solid 7 for me, has improved to an 8 via more focused play with people on my Friend list, and it should easily give me my $60 worth over the next few months.

Stay open-minded, gamers. Knee-jerk scoring extremes are just embarassing - or outright lies. Consider some of these Destiny users that give 0 to the PS4 version and 10 to the Xbox One version - or the other way around. Why would you trust these people? People are so accustomed to vomiting opinions on the Internet with little-to-no perspective, fire and forget style, how can we expect to trust a subset of entertainment fans with notoriously small attention spans?

GAMERS, let's do better. Let's expose the dumb and review with proper balance and perspective. Help your fellow gamer instead of airing your dirty laundry with unintelligible emotional hang-ups.

C'mon, guys - make a mental checklist of your actual positives vs. negatives, and mold your score around that. I'm going to keep playing and evaluating, holding at 8/10 with future content additions in mind.

So i bought this game because i went full into the hype, but i just don't get what all the fuzz is about, the game is Borderlands meets Halo, you shoot, you level up, collect loot and kill bosses at the end of each mission, wich often take place in the same levels with the same enemy's. The game claims to be an MMOish type of game but it isn't really much more then a 4-player co-opSo i bought this game because i went full into the hype, but i just don't get what all the fuzz is about, the game is Borderlands meets Halo, you shoot, you level up, collect loot and kill bosses at the end of each mission, wich often take place in the same levels with the same enemy's. The game claims to be an MMOish type of game but it isn't really much more then a 4-player co-op expierence, you can't trade , you can't do much else together then shoot stuff up just like in Borderlands, what really bugs me is that online media websites keep treating it like a holy grail, no reviews are up because this game is "to big" to review in a couple of hours, i think thats a bulls*t , borderlands 2 reviews where online in a couple of hours and that game was maybe bigger then this game was, i still enjoy playing it just like borderlands and i like this game maybe even more than that one, but i don't know how long it will keep me interrested, i mean i get bored already sometimes when the no-respawn area happens and that you know you will be pushing the trigger like an idiot for the next 10 minutes.

Its a good game, but i can't see me playing this game for the next 6-months.

If thought about as "Diablo With Guns" then this game is wonderful. The gunplay mechanics are very tight and exactly what we've come to expect from Bungie. The pacing feels more like Halo than Call of Duty, but fans of either series will find something to enjoy here.

The game is clearly meant to be played with friends. The story content and writing seems bare, as if they tried to keep plot out of the way of friendly banter between fireteams. The real interesting aspect of the game's lore come unfortunately from the Grimoire Cards, items found in game that can only be read on Bungie's Destiny app or on their own website. This will keep a lot of people from really experiencing what is a deceptively deep and compelling universe.

It's clear that there's room in the game for DLC. With the first two expansions announced before the game's release, it feels as if the story has suffered from a desire to sell removed sections of the game. What's there justifies the initial purchase in my opinion, but the practice leaves a bad taste in my mouth for sure.

The decision to exclude team-chat during the game's multiplayer mode keeps solo players from being able to jump in and perform well with strangers. This unfortunately keeps the game from having perhaps the best multiplayer experience in any current-gen shooter.

At the end of the day, playing this game with friends and clan mates will provide an exciting experience that, quite frankly, is a total blast. Collecting loot, exploring, competing and cooperating with your team feels as good or better in this game than in any other. Without the ability to speak to teammates without inviting them to join your fire team, playing the game solo may indeed keep a player from really enjoying what could be a near-perfect game.

The game is extremely boring, this the last time that I purchase a game, purely based on hype. It doesn't do anything for me, I hate the gameplay it's so repetitive, I hate the enemies. Why did this game have such a huge budget when it sucks?

So much hate... There's absolutely no way this game is a 0. If you can't make a rational decision, you shouldn't be reviewing games.

I give this game a solid 8 only for its feeling of repetition (at least in the early game) and annoying load times. Other than that, this game is graphically stunning and great gameplay. It has huge potential and I'm looking forward to what comes next.

Garbage ... who makes an MMO where you cannot trade items with your friends? Bungie I guess ...

Play Halo 2 instead. Better MP, story.

Also the lore cards in Destiny ... to read them ... get this ... you have to look them up in a browser on your computer/tablet/phone. Why this crap wasn't available in game ... your guess = mine

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
