Seriously, the people who gave this game bad scores need some friends to play with. This game is a cross between Halo and Borderlands, with a smidge of MMO thrown in. Thats what it was designed to be, and thats what it delivers.

Its not perfect. There does come a point where you need to grind to catch up in levels and it does suck that there is no way to communicate with other players,

Its not perfect. There does come a point where you need to grind to catch up in levels and it does suck that there is no way to communicate with other players, but again thats not really an issue if you have actual friends to share the experience with. Regardless, it doesnt warrant a red score just for that.

The problem with these low score reviews is they expect the ever elusive, 100% unique, genre defining MMO theyve been expecting since WoW. That, as usual, means theyll hate on it because it doesnt revolutionize the genre, yet they'll bow down to the next CoD iteration despite the fact its the exact same thing as the CoD before it.

It's a great game. Beautiful world and a fantastic gameplay. I really appreciate it. I spend a lot of hours in game, indeed. I really recommend you to join me and the other guardians in this incredible adventure.

Giving this game a 0 is pathetic. Overall, I'm digging it. It's fun, pretty and engaging. I'm never bored, and I'm always excited to see what kind of gear im getting next. My only complaint is the story is a bit lacklustre. It's not terrible, and the universe is well defined, but there does seem to be something missing.

What's with all of these user reviews? It's certainly not a 0/10 or a 10/10. If you have rated it a 0 or a 10 your are clearly displaying extreme fanboyism. Seriously, is it that bad it deserves a 0, or that good it deserves a 10? Absolutely not!
Graphically the game looks fantastic, and mechanically it plays great. The repetitive nature of missions however are a little tiresome.

I would really have liked to have seen a local co-op option available, like in Halo. I played through all of the Halo series, never once solo, always split screen co-op and feel like that option would have improved the game greatly for me as most of my friends are spread out between the Xbox 360, PS3 and Xbox one.

    The good:
    - The genre: FPS/RPG is great ( see Borderlands )
    - The world: The world is really beautiful. Great desing. - PvP is fun. The bad: - Graphics are meh. - The quests are always the same, gets kind of boring. - Boss fights are too simple. Only difficulty is more health/more damage. You don't need any strategies to kill a boss ( see WoW boss fights ) - Voice chat

Overall I feel the game is decent and I'm having a good time on it. But Bungie will have to change a lot to make it last, otherwise the game will be dead in a few months.

Solo or with 2 friends. Campaign or crucibal. I didn't had so mush fun in a while. Gameplay is perfect. Level design are great and PvP maps all takes advantage of the verticality. Its all about the loot man! Your getting 1 or 2 great items on each missions. Loot adjust to your lvl too. Replays early mission with a friend who has jus begun the game and you still earn great pieces for YOUR lvl.

If you want more challenge you can play each mission on hard difficultie but the real pain is crucibal! You will be crushed on your first games . the trick is to experiment with classes and load out. Some guns are better in PvP. Look for more impact, fire rate and magazine size. Reloading in the middle of a fight is certain death! Titan is a good idea.

This is just my review so far. In my humble opinion, no one can review that game right now. This fps/RPG/mmo is an evolving thing. There's so much content we haven't seen. Raids, iron banners, weekly and public events. There's also 2 expansions on the way. Sites who reviewed this game on september 10 and 11 have clearly not understand something. When someone say that this game is 20 hours long...cod campaign is 5 hours long but I still play I all year long!!!

Don't lisent to all the haters. This game is great. I can't wait to see what's next!!!

Game time as of writing this review: ~10 hours

    PROS:
    + Beautiful graphics
+ Solid, robust FPS shooting on a well built engine
+ Vast array of weapons, armour, customisability
+ PvP online play is fun (as you would expect from a Bungie game)

    CONS:
    - Very poor AI (enemies will stand by walls, run into each other, stop chasing you if you leave the room, etc. It's possible to defeat a lot of the 'bosses' by simply standing in an area outside of their designated 'arena' and pick them off slowly; almost like PS1 old school game-style)
    - Bland, repetitive, formulaic mission (consist of going to an area, shooting the enemies until they're all dead, move on, rinse & repeat)
    - Poor versatility in gameplay (adds to the previous point - Bungie's idea of bringing a new gameplay dynamic seems to be to give you the same objectives but half way through the mission make respawning less available. Other options include using vehicles and using a sword but as soon as you get involved and start enjoying these varied mechanics, Destiny stops you and tells you to get back to shooting the infinite waves of carbon-copied enemies. In addition, missions often send you back to the same areas over and over. Dull.)
    - Poorly written storyline
    - Poorly written characters and, as a result, dull voice acting
    - The need to be online for the story mode seems completely arbitrary and near enough pointless, with people just wandering around your mission doing their own thing, not really affecting you or helping you in the slightest
    - Multiplayer can be difficult due to much higher levelled players with much better equipment playing with you
    - Buying new equipment is difficult as most vendors only hold items that are out of your level bracket or too expensive (usually the former)

    CONCLUSION:

These a few other niggles but these are the glaringly obvious ones that have annoyed me thus far. It's unfair to give the game 0 - 3 ratings as this game is very well built, playing perfectly well and for me games that don't work should have these scores.

I feel as though a lot of people are being overtly harsh and upset with Destiny, however, on the other hand, those giving the game 10/10 need to reconsider their definition of 'perfection' as this game is far from that.

The user score (at the moment of writing this) is 6.4 and I believe this is a representative score for the game (however, the means by which the average score has been obtained with very high and very low scores is something I don't agree with).

Destiny is a solid, if not boring, FPS that does not revolutionize the genre as many had hoped. The MMO aspects are few and far between and don't have much effect on the game, with most sections being boiled down to the basic 'shoot-these-aliens-move-on-shoot-more-aliens' mechanic of what is a standard, run of the mill, very good looking, FPS.

If this game is actually finished with any kind of appreciable story, more than three NPC that are not just storekeepers with tourette's style exposition, and some actual sci-fi to the gear in the game, then it will be worth a second look. As it stands currently, it is too short, too dull (endless waves of the same enemies), and too expensive compared to better shooters. The only way to win this game is not to play.

Be warned, even though this comes from the makers of Halo, they took away your ability to use alien weapons. Bad game design writ large.

This is an ONLINE game, and yet there's nothing cooperative about it. There's no matchmaking feature for joining parties to do missions with so you're out of luck if you haven't pre-arranged a team.

You cannot chat with anyone in the game world, further making it impossible to work cooperatively (especially during public events / world bosses, etc.). The only way to group up seems to be to run around the world trying to find any of the 3 people you might just find in your zone at any given point and spam them with fire team invites...That's if they stop moving long enough for you to even select them. There's no way to say 'hey let's join up', so you just have to send cold party invites which probably annoy people.

The story is absolutely HORRIBLE, who the heck even knows what it's supposed to be about. The voice acting is horrendous. The only thing the game has going for it is the shooting, but the missions are too hard to play alone so good luck even trying to enjoy that.

What is there, is done well. Compared to the Borderlands series, it does away with all the garbage toys, offering you a functional palette of destructive weapons. It offers more variety and growth than more static shooters. It's MMO-ey, but gone is the need to have 40 "friends" whos friendship hinges purely on schedules befitting an employer. Two friends are good enough for an adventure, and yourself-plus-five will be enough for a story to tell. PVP is easy to get into as any Halo match, with significantly more variation in the tools at your disposal to seek your win. Every class is the same at the core, sharing weapon availability, but with their special abilities defining the features of their special attacks, grenades, and melee strikes.

Yet, the major controversy is that the drama, the story, the "epic" falls somewhere in two camps. On one side, it all falls flat, a bizarre failure to try to make a beautiful world engaging (besides things that shoot at you). Yet on the other, the same absence of personality and drama adds to the desolation and desperation of what amounts to being in the soon-to-be-last-moments of humanity seem oddly engineered to be that way. Whether this is a failure or an unintentional success, I still cannot decide. NPC's are incorrigibly depressive, even in the face of good news. Landscapes are vast, interesting stretches of desolation depicting just how close to the precipice you truly stand. That hollowness isn't something you simply 'fail' your way into.

Yet this only makes the game yours to make in an endearing sort of way if you're looking for a shooter-RPG to dig in. It's fun to play. While not offering anything truly unique, this biscuit is worth a bite.

Although Destiny isn't the brilliant start to a franchise that many had hoped for, it's a great game for those who can push through its flaws and enjoy the ride.

What is most amazing of all is that despite its litany of weird little problems, Destiny is fantastic, its combat up there with the very best, the thrilling rhythm of its battles still not fading the 30th time through, and it has no single systemic problem that is not fixable. [Dec 2014, p.106]

Destiny is a flawed but still extremely fun first person shooter. While the Destiny universe itself seems intriguing, the storyline is told in such an incoherent manner that it's hard not to be turned off by all the technobabble. Fortunately the co-op shooter mechanics are absolutely perfect. The loot system can be maddening, but in a way it adds to the game's addictiveness. [Oct 2014]
