The campaign is short but extremely polished and clearly directed at helping set the stage for the rest of the content and also help teach first time guardians the ropes of the game.

Environments draw you into a sense of wonder at the scale of buildings, ships, and vistas stretching into the distance. I often found myself forgetting the task at hand as I wandered into a new area, mesmerized by the landscape.

The end-game content is what has sold me on Destiny deserving high marks. Adventures, post campaign quests, even patrols and public events, continue to build out the story and immerse you in a world full of creativity and intrigue. Each piece of content uses familiar mechanics with just enough subtle variations on the gameplay approach to make things feel fresh and exciting. Nothing was particularly difficult, but I did find myself dying here and there in various encounters, forcing me to adjust my approach and adapt to the AI's playstyle.

Complaints swirl around "microtrasactions" but I did not find them to be anything close to a "pay to win" scenario. The things you can buy are almost exclusively cosmetic and, through leveling up or getting bright engram drops, can be acquired freely by playing the game, making the microtransactions a nonissue. Additionally, if you do happen to get armor pieces from the engrams, they drop at minimal light with no mods, so you'll still need to get light level appropriate fodder and strong modifications to apply to it; to me, this was a more than fair way to include an income stream for the game without breaking the balance of the core design of the leveling system.

As for the almost universal concern about shaders, I was similarly put off by the new consumable nature rather than the tried and true hot swap system of D1. But after experiencing the new system over the past few days, I found something I didn't expect: I started to take pride in collecting stashes shaders that I liked and cared about. In Destiny 1, shaders were a dime a dozen and I really only ended up caring about 1 or 2 of them, then forgot about it for the rest of the few hundred hours I put into the game. With D2, finding where a particular shader would drop gave me an instant jolt of excitement as I knew where I'd invest my time to build up a good stockpile of a shader I'd want to apply to my gear. It promotes continued participation in content rather than the 1-and-done style of the old system. I am a converted fan and I recommend guardians give it a chance.

With Destiny 2, Bungie has proven their dedication to making incredible game experiences.

Farming the same content you just completed in under 24hrs. Over and over and over and over again. All of this is just gameplay errors. I could tear apart the games story, copied graphic design, or pay to win currency but I've wasted enough time with this crappy game so I wont. Just leave you with this, the developers robbed every person that bought this game and are happy doing so. Expand

This is a MMO masquerading as a single player experience. Every NPC talks about how special you are and how you are the only one that can help, which is hard to believe when there are dozens of other players running around you that were told the same thing. If I had been looking for a multiplayer experience, my score would be higher, but the single player experience is disappointingly lacking.

Improvement on every level. If you were disappointed by D1, but like the core game play mechanics and idea of the game, I'd wager you'll love D2. Much more fleshed out product. Years of fine tuning the product are evident. A must own for any console owner who loves FPS.

This game is a solid 10/10 for many reasons. The first is the sheer amount of content you are getting. The game is at least 30 to 60 hours of gameplay across one character. If not more. What is more is that you can roll up to three toons, so that's like 120+ hours of gameplay easily. There are raids, pvp, and other features that are there to do weekly so you'll keep coming back like a lot of MMOs. Overall, the story is great, front to back , and very interesting. The game itself has all of its lore baked into the game now unlike D1. This is a shooter, so keep this is in mind, not an MMO. Some people want RPG, this isn't totally an RPG. This is a SHARED WORLD SHOOTER WITH MMO ELEMENTS. If you are looking for an MMORPG, please, look to WoW or something else. The controls are great, and the game looks very impressive at 4K with 30FPS. I know "PC Master Race" and the "Church of unlimited frames" people will balk, but overall, for a console game this is literally eye-popping visuals and looks. Most PC players won't even crack 4K with 30FPS unless they have spent $3,000 on their PC. The PS4 Pro is $399 and a 4K TV is $600, or so. I'm thoroughly satisfied, and about to start up my Titan, and I'm a hunter main. I intend on a Warlock play through at some point, but overall I'm impressed with this title. It will be the only game I play for months, and for $60 you cannot beat that. I bought the digital deluxe edition and pre-ordered, and watch it closely since it was announced. I was skeptical, but no, this is the game a good FPS player is looking for. This is the game where you sit back with your friends, pop open a beer, and just have a great night of chat and gunplay. The game's story begins with the last city on earth being invaded by the oversized alien species known as the cabal. They take over the city, capture the traveler, and take away your powers (or light as everyone calls it). But by some miraculous chance you find a fragment of the traveler outside the city and get your powers back, so it is now up to you to fight against the cabal and take back the city.

A good story but very cliche. I never really liked MMO's to be honest because the game never treats itself like one. As you play the story you meet up with Zavala, Ikora, and Cayde-6 and they treat your character like he is the only guardian left when there are thousands wandering the worlds. Nevertheless, I enjoyed playing through it much more than the first game.

Engrams in this game don't need to be deciphered unless they are legendary (purple) or exotic (yellow). Common (white), uncommon (green), and rare (blue) can all be equipped once picked up. Loot is done better in this game as well.

The only things I really didn't like were the fact I didn't get my sparrow til after I beat the whole campaign, so if you pick this game up you will be walking from one location to another for a majority of the game unless you find an abandoned enemy vehicle.

The crucible was also something that was a disappointment. Instead of having game modes to pick from, you pick either quickplay or competitive and it puts you in a random game mode. This works for games like Overwatch but not this game. Players always leave when they get a mode they don't like.

Ships still serve 0 purpose other than to be eye candy during loading screens. I mean seriously if you are not gonna have space battles then do not bother wasting valuable time on stuff like that when you could be using it to make a better game. I don't know why Bungie didn't think to just use teleporters or even something like a Stargate to move us around from planet to planet with loading screens in between.

So Destiny 2 is an okay game but needs some work done on it. So get on it Bungie!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. destiny 1 was bad, but this, this is a lilttle better. the game gets good when you get on the ending, but are you sure you want to waste lots of days of your life to get to the good content. btw, the content is still not good, but its satisfatory if you really like shooters, which i do.

now to the bad points - this is based on bungies previous achievements and other great fps games.
1- the story campaing is terrible- nothing really feels like happens, i sometimes got bored and turned on my tv, i used to play d1 while watching tv by how interesting and engaged it was.... this was irony.,
2 - nothing happens in the story, --- oh, the city and plot blows up, but who cares, nobody dies really, the closest thing you see of an emotional shot is some bots being destroyed.... really **** in the game i felt more interested in stopping playing and go read something
3 - theres not many fun moments in the main plot - its all so repetitve and easy it gets boring, the only good thing is the scenery in some missions and patrols and driving a tank, but thats it.
4 - shooting is only fun in the harder dificulty missions, which they basically removed, but now there is only the strikes, the nightfalls and the raid, i wish there was no stupid time-investment bull**** to get me there, thats the only good thing in the game, in the previous game all missions had a hard versions FFS
5 -patrols is still barely interesting - one questgiver, some missions and public events, nothing much, some are very repetitive, some are good, and some patrols are so bad, IO and Nessus are basically the same ****ty place, IO(i think thats the last map or is it Nessus) is just a **** terrible labyrinth of rocks
6 - the community sucks - lots of people faking that they like it because some part of their income is related to destiny fanatics.
7 - pvp became more boring - less variety and more repetitve encounters, dont misunderstand, its a tight game of skill, but thats it, the fun game that existed before in d1 got canned

Destiny could have been more, but as a sequel, its a disappointment who thought Bungie would do a good job.

But if you never played destiny 1 , rent this game or borrow a copy from a friend. if you cant do neither dont bother, just go play something good or wait for d3.

Besides, finally there will be some competition for the market, hopefully that will make Bungie stop screwing around

Even if Bungie backtracks on some of these horrendous missteps, there’s evidence that the dev team is either flailing around without a clear idea of the experience they want to present, or even worse, they’re happy to offer the least amount of mediocre content possible until the player base starts pushing back. When free-to-play titles like Warframe and Let it Die seem monumentally more generous and offer vastly more entertainment value than a triple-A sixty dollar release built with a budget large enough to feed whole continents, it’s clear that something has gone horribly wrong.

It’s this sense of streamlined player experience that really defines Destiny 2. Where the first game had you grinding for hours just to experience increasingly diminishing returns, this is a sequel that trims away its processor’s frustrations, firmly putting fun first.

Destiny 2 is tough to compare to other shooters or games, but it is evidently a better title than part 1. The campaign is longer, the progression makes more sense, the structure is more satisfying and the sheen and splendor on the various planets entices even more. Destiny is comparable with its predecessor after the add-on The Taken King, and is therefore a more solid foundation for the coming months of content.
