The world is bleak and depressingly empty which can detract many people as well, since the exploration isn't as rewarding as for example Legend of Zelda: BotW.
If you're looking for deep gameplay and adrenaline driven experience, avoid by miles. The story and social features are worth it though.

Personally I am really enjoying Death Stranding. I do understand that it is not to everybody's style, however the ability to help other people out who you do not even meet appeals to me. The story is well told and has a fantastic cast of actors in it.

It's fresh, it's engaging, and it's atmospheric. This isn't your usual fast paced shooter or adventure game you can knock out in a few hours and get a quick dopamine rush. At first, I was bewildered that so many people called it "art" but after playing through 15 minutes, I could see why they think that. Is it? It really depends on you.

Did you like Red Dead Redemption 2? Detroit Become Human? Alien Isolation? Alan Wake? If so, then you'll love Death Stranding. The only downside is the gameplay. It's a lot more simplistic but it's not entirely the Amazon Prime delivery game most people make it out to be. There's plenty of stealth, exploration, navigation, combat, and character customization to keep you entertained. It's not just a walking simulator, it's much more then that. Yes there are guns and bikes you can use to speed the process up but the game has an equal amounts of up's and down's to set a smoother pace. Most importantly, it's entertaining from start to finish.

I should also note that there are a LOT of cutscenes so if you have ADHD, this might not be the game for you. This is a game for the patient gamers that I also believe the average gamer will enjoy just as long as they give it an honest chance. So sit down, enjoy the ride and try not to worry so much about the lack of RPG mechanics the game could have. Worry about the story and atmosphere that will quite possibly never be forgotten.

I’m almost 40. First video game I ever played was Lander. I sucked at it. I’ve owned Segas, Nintendos, PlayStations, Xbox, Ataris, Acorn Electrons, Amigas, PCs, Handhelds etc. I’ve played Arvade exclusives and seen the birth of emulation. I got my backside digitally kicked in Unreal Tournament and was a part of the Halo revolution. I played Rainbow Six, the original, and am privileged to have seen the evolution of gaming in its entirety. I’m talking the evolution in games from Ridge Racer to Forza Horizon 4, Dark Seed to Dragon Age. Metal Gear to the Phantom Pain. Tomb Raider (Original) to the Last of us. As a combat veteran, and a first-responder, gaming is existential to my escapism. A therapy for everything that I have seen and done. And as of today, in 2019... I **** hate the vast majority gaming industry. The only renewed faith I have in this modern age are independent releases. Let’s fast forward to a more recent event in the purchase of HIDEO KOJIMA’S Death Stranding. Mixed reviews all round, I’ve seen. The IGN controversy, the meta critic used score. Whatever you’re looking for in a video game, the tiresome state of the industry is vacant in this game in EVERY SINGLE WAY. I was looking for a game that might change gaming culture the way Minecraft made me look at LEGO (and my own creativity). Death Stranding achieved that in about twenty hours. An epiphany... one that stopped me dead in my tracks. This is supposed to be a review and while I’ll skip over the technical, graphical and mechanical-“als”, the main thing I wanted to talk about was why Death Stranding made me fall in love with my PlayStation again. And fall in love with gaming; like playing through Mass Effect or KOTOR. THE GAME... wtf is up with it? I’m going to simplify it before complicating it. I’ve seen a ton of people try to explain this game simply and the best way to describe it is this. You’re basically a Special Forces Postman, with Robocop like tech. Seriously. I can hear Norman Reedus in my head saying; “Somewhere, a delivery is happening.” Set in a Dystopian United States of America, an event known as the Death Stranding tore apart the fabric separating life and death. Now the dead show up in the living world and the rain (Timefall) accelerates time. You play as Sam Porter Bridges, a loner who separated himself from the last bastion cities of this broken world and spends his time moving across the broken wasteland delivering packages and avoiding the ghouls known as BTs “Beached Things”. To avoid ALL spoilers, let’s just say that he’s compelled to make a journey from East-to-West, to connect all of the remaining cities in the US via a strange phenomena called the Chiral Network. In the way are package thieves (MULES), Terrorists and the Ghosts (BTs). But they’re only distractions, because the real challenge is the JOURNEY. Environmental issues like water, rocky areas, mountains, canyons, crevices, snow, rain (including the deadly timefall which turns metal to rust in minutes). People need you to get to them. Other players will place tech, ropes, ladders, bridges and structures to help you. Sharing resources is a must, and you’ll get help anonymously at every step. Because we’re all in this together. Everything you do, can help others playing the game. You can even take on tasks meant for them. THE TECHNICAL... it’s... complicated. Which is AWESOME. This game is all sorts of philosophical. It’s the FIGHT CLUB of the gaming platform. Compelling, utterly, during the telling of its story and filled with symbolism and subtleties that drive your compassion to save the game world. The physical control of Sam is realistic and uses every PS4 trick in the book to create interactivity. You can soothe the Bridge Baby (An ethereal fetus that you “link” with to detect the BTs), you can adjust balance by the triggers, and of course, what is a Kojima game without a TON of cool gadgets to play with; from weapons (lethal and non-lethal), vehicles, structural creations like zip lines, grenades and more... There’s a LOT of inventory shuffling since nothing is kept in a hidden bag you can’t see. The mechanics of placing everything onto (and into pouches) on Sam is impressive. With battery powered exo-suits and tactically deployed resting/charging spots, you can cover the VAST and challenging landscapes using tools and items left behind by other players. THE FUTURE... of gaming? Maybe. Maybe not. Death Stranding is the first game in a long time where I’ve been eager to isolate myself. The infrastructure of highways, bridges and buildings stopped me in my tracks when I realized that after walking back and forth from a delivery CHANGED the ground I’d walked on. Others walked that path too... I know... players “liked” the path I’d laid. In a world where every AAA game wants ALL of your money... Hideo wants you to explore. EVERYTHING.

Combat is generally pretty basic, and i generally enjoyed it as it's not the focus of the game (not a fan of controller shooting games).
There are some times where the game does drag a little, and i had a short point where I just wanted to finish it. Though I also did spend a lot of time fleshing out the 'network' rather than relying so much on the 'shared' constructions. But after learning of the world, reading all the 'interviews' then carrying on with the story, i didn't want it to end.

    Ico
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Journey
    Alien isolation
    RDR2

then you will most likely enjoy this game. The reason I've mentioned those games is that they have 1 major element in common. It's takes hours to get through a lengthy intro and then the games really take off. You have to have some patience and also you will not shoot a hundred enemies in the first level like COD. This game is very slow paced but also very thoughtful and you will not begin to see this until many hours in. At least like halfway through episode 2. Give at least that much time, like 10 hours.

If you like a game you need to sink your time into in order the get the most out of it, then Death Stranding will not disappoint. The graphics and immersiveness of the environments will suck you in. The draw distance on consoles is incredible, even beating out RDR2 in fidelity. If you have a pro and an HDR TV your in for a real treat.

The gameplay is slow paced except for times where enemies show up and you need to improvise. So far that has been my favorite moment in the game as I had to run and scramble up some precarious cliffs, deviating harshly from very well though out route. After I lost the baddies I luckily had made two ropes previously and was able to rappel down to safety. Like Alien Isolation, improvisation and quick thinking payed off.

That's not to say the game is without problems. The inventory system and delivery terminals are a hot mess of confusing menus and information. I'm sure it's all useful in some way, but i'm not there yet. Also, the story is typical Kojima with a lot of exposition. It can get annoying sometimes when you keep getting calls on the radio from the supporting characters non-stop while your just trying to take in the game and play. So for me, these things detract from the game, hence a 9 score.

So just want to touch on one more thing. I read through the negative reviews and see that most people probably did not even play the game or maybe played a few hours after release on Friday. Metacritic should really get a handle on this crap. If the game is not for everybody that's fine, but these ridiculous zero scores with no substance need to go. If you give the game a low score and provide some reasons for this, that's fine. But reading many of those reviews just made me realize that I should get the game, because just like the games I mentioned above, this game is not part of the same rehashed norm that AAA games have become.

The new COD gets rave reviews, and yet it's just the same game as the original that came out like 12 years ago. And some people just want more of the same which is cool too. I'll spend my time playing Death Stranding, something new and interesting.

This game is really an amazing experience if you embrace it for what it is, which is a simulated sci fi experience, in which you immerse yourself into the role of Sam Bridges on his journey through the world in a bid to understand and unravel the mystery of the death stranding.

I won't put any spoilers here, suffice to say the game does an amazing job of really making you feel like your journeys to deliver items of importance are impactful and whilst the game is linear, I still got an amazing amount of satisfaction planning my trips to avoid perilious situations, and ensuring I had the relative tools at hand to combat the terrain I was planning to navigate.

Maybe this isn't for everyone, but in no way shape or form is it bad. To some it may be boring, granted, but for the people who this game was made for, and for those that can appreciate the amount of detail and love that was poured into making this title, it really is a diamond in the rough that deserves the respect of gamers around the world.

I hope games like this, and those such as Detroit aren't canned because of the narrowmindedness of our current generation. Otherwise we'll end up having nothing but COD clones and FIFA for eternity. I dread the thought.

The game is definitely not a walking simulator. I personally detest walking sims. If this game is a Walking Sim, then so is Breath of the Wild.

This game actually shares more in common with BOTW than you might think. The real fun of the game is in traversal. Not mindlessly walking forward. But in seeing a mountain in your path and struggling to get up and over it.

If you played BOTW and you loved trying to forge your path to the next ruin, which meant scaling a mountain and winding around it, or trying to figure out a way to get up and over with just the limited supplies that you had, then you'd love this game.

I'll start off by saying that even though I loved this game, it's very hard to recommend to people. A friend came to my apartment day 1 to watch the game and decide if he wanted it. In the end, he didn't and I completely understand, especially seeing the portion of the game I played.

Your enjoyment of this game will probably rely on how far you're willing to put up with a slog to get to the other side, which sounds like a bad thing but the rush of being able to fly past a spot that gave you so much trouble appeals to me very much. I spent a lot of time building structures to help myself and others along the way, and seeing likes from other players who I helped made me feel like it was all worth it.

This game slow drips mechanics almost the entire time you're playing, to the point where you're well armed partway into chapter 3 and near the end of the game you have an entire arsenal of equipment that you can really tailor the game to the way you want to play. The slow drip is needed, if you look at the tips section at the end of the game, it's overwhelming just how many systems and mechanics they've crammed into this game, and they all work very well.

Combat does indeed exist in this game, and you'd be surprised at how good it can feel. When I first learned about using cargo as weapons I didn't think I'd use it because I wouldn't want to hurt my packages, but I learned that when you knock out a MULE their cargo can be caught in mid-air which can then be thrown at another of your assailants. It made me feel like I was in an action movie and it was an awesome blend of the delivery and combat mechanics. As you move into the game you and your human enemies will grow your arsenal of weaponry to the point where they're just as formidable as you are, and they never felt like pushovers.

Of all the things in Death Stranding, its main focus is the story, which ends up being way less enigmatic than it first appears once you have all the pieces. I felt it was very engaging and I was happily going through with deliveries just to see where the story would go next. I do have one issue and there's a very loaded exposition scene right at the end which could have been handled better, but aside from that - and some weird writing/character moments at points - it felt very well crafted.

Presentation is, of course, top notch. This is the best photo-realism of any game this generation hands down, environments are beautiful and characters are detailed down to the pores on their skin. The actors all give great performances, bringing life and depth to their characters. The music, though sparse, is all fantastic and punctuates your journey in a way that makes you appreciate how far you've come.

Slight hiccups caused a little aggravation along the way. At times I wished there were just an easier way to skip the small cutscenes in your room and in the terminals. Every action is accompanied with a short scene, and they can be skipped but the process of skipping multiple tiny scenes in a row can feel tiring. The physics can get a little wonky at times, Sam doesn't handle like you feel he should sometimes and I took a couple spills because he slipped slightly unnaturally or what looked like a hill suddenly felt like a drop. Also take the trike and jump while doing a wheelie, you float in a weird triangle-like arc.

I'm interested in seeing all the things I missed and working towards platinum, but I don't know if I'd play from the beginning to see the story again. At the end of it all, these inconveniences were never enough to sour my experience and I'm very happy I put the time in to see it to the end. Absolutely rent it and try it out, if you bounce hard in the first couple chapters it's probably not for you. But if you find yourself enjoying those first hours of the game, you're absolutely in for a treat.

saying this is a walking simulator is overly simplified, it is more of a high risk delivery simulator. The game is polished and has amazing graphics, the story is fresh and unique from all games currently in the market, it's always cool to hate on something different but this game is needed to push the medium forward.

Death Stranding is not for everyone but it sure is for some

Death Stranding delivers a new exiting gaming experiance, and while it's true that some people might find it repetetive to do the deliveries back and forth. Death Stranding more than makes up for it with interesting gameplay mechanics and great story.

So after reading so many reviews trashing this excellent game I thought of adding a few pennies. Am I a Kojima fanboy? Not at all. Am I a Kojima fanboy? Not at all. I actually find MGV boring and drab, although it's much more of a shooter than this one. A lot of people will say it's a glorified walking simulator and there's certainly parts of the game that feel like it - one of the biggest challenges is terrain traversal. But instead of thinking of it in terms of walking simulator think of it as something of an evolution of a 3d platformer - it's a beautifully crafted, naturalistic world in which your objective is to get from point A to B. As the game progresses you find yourself in possesion of a growing number of tools to do that, so in the middle part of the game you actuall mostly drive around in trucks and motorbikes, while in the latter you mostly fly around on zipline. Now terrain traversal is fun and does make for quite a challenge. Another thing that makes for a lot of fun is new tools that are being introduced almost literally every half an hour. Some of them you might never use, some of them you will find yourself using constantly, so there are many ways to approach an objective. Another strong aspect is story - this game hours upon hours of beautifully realized cutscenes. How good is the story? It's good, although some dialogue lines are just badly written, mostly it's well versed. In an industry where most products have a throwaway story just for the sake of presenting cool graphics and mechanics, this one definitely stands out. Coupled with it's insane soundtrack and action heavy intervals, you get a one of a kind masterpiece. Most critics, even if they praise it suggest it could've been shorter, but I don't agree with them. I was actually surprised when the story started to wrap up, I wasn't ready yet - haven't delivered enough packages, haven't finished building all the highways (very satisfying activity btw), haven't encompassed mountains with my network of ziplines, haven't unlocked all the extra equipment... In the end story left me crying... this game certainly is a tearsqueezer. Does everything in the story make sense? Kinda, you just have to accept that it follows dream logic more often than waking logic. Buy it, it's worth it. Expand

This is a game about contrasts. It's enthralling. It has an addictive central gameplay loop. And the tiniest moments are when you'll feel the most impact: the ladder, road, or rope left by another player; barely making your run after an extensive bout with TimeFall; the encounters with BTs and MULEs are genuinely tense and engaging; the mini-boss fights with the cephlapods are arresting and terrorifying and a fair buffer for you screwing up and getting caught by BTs.

Am I having as much "fun" as I did with MGSV? No. But I'm more engaged and the fun I'm having is amplified by the unparalleled production, drink-from-the-firehose lore setup and constant wonder that seemingly extracted from isolation.

A masterclass in pivoting away from toxic, violent game design to empathetic world building and dynamic immersion through very simple but involved hiking and item management mechanics.

Those with an open mind or craving something different will be drinking from the well here for quite a while.

To samé platí o postavách. Dost zvláštní a unikátní.

Ano byli zde pasáže kdy sem musel cestovat nějaký dlouhý usek nazpět nebo neskutečně ukecané emaily co posílají npc postavy (doplňuje to svět a příběh). Presto všechno ale jsem nezažil nudu.

Yes the game is not for everyone and involves a lot of travelling and will take you awhile to gain the fast travel option. I for one, refuse to do so because the landscape is so detailed and it feels so real with the terrain. You have to watch your footing when traversing especially when carrying heavy and unbalanced loads. Rugged terrain like sharp rocks, valleys, rivers and steep inclines are you real enemies. Throw in your rogue porters who'll steal your gear, rain that will degrade your cargo and the BT's that lurk in them and you're up for a real challenge early game. Unfortunately, that's when it changes when you get some decent weaponry and tools to deal with them and it becomes a bit too easy.

Characters and story is where you see Kojima at work. Quirky character names like Die-Hardman, Deadman, Mama and Fragile all play a big part in the story along with Sam. Big names with the voice acting with Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelson, Guillermo Del Toro (excited because he would helped Kojima with the story and characters), Lindsay Wagner and Troy Baker do a fantastic job.

Game has great musical score and it really feels like you're watching a movie. Some great tracks from Low Roar which really gels with the current scenario.

Overall, the game is great and can't wait to tackle it on a harder difficulty (played on Normal) to see if combat can be a bit more challenging. But it isn't a deal breaker as the game is more about the journey.

Haters gonna hate. Stick to CoD and Fortnite. No need for toxicity in this game ; )

I liked the concept of the story. It makes you think (more then I'd like some times lol) and it's not the trivial game story most are used to. It's a very different game and confusing some times. I could just "connect the dots" at the last minutes of the game. But i think it could be more explained. It seems to get a little rush on the end, but considering this is his first game I understood.
Just don't give up of the game on the middle and keep playing (skip the secondary deliveries if you didn't enjoy this mechanics) at least to understand the story. This game is almost like a Movie, people that don't like a lot of cinematic won't like it.

This is a game that is not for everybody, but it's a AAA game that goes where games like Shadow of the Colossus or Journey went before. Providing you with a solitude experience of contemplation and amazement. And no, it's not just a walking simulator. It gives you so many tools as your go through the game, you can create roads, ride bikes, travel through zip lines that you can place wherever you want and everything you do is at the same time connected with other people who left ladders or ropes for you in the way. It feels like a world connected even when you are by yourself as the game plays a lovely song from "Low Roar".

This is the game for people who like hiking, sci-fi, and horror. Yes, you fight monsters, but while that is part of the game with a lot of spectacle, you will be wishing to be spending your time o delivering packages rather than fighting. Why? Because the weight system feels great, your decision making on what to take with you, will you take the difficult path or the longer route using a truck? How many deliveries can you take with you? Your decision and how you travel is up to you, and that sense of freedom and exploration is something few games can provide you.

And the vistas....oh y god, the vistas. Well if Horizon Zero Dawn was like an Avatar beautiful World, and RDR2 was like a realistic beautiful look at our old western with beautiful landscapes. DS is like going to Marks, Venus, and every planet you think about it. I know it's supposed to be the earth after the Death Stranding event, but still. It loks bautiful and otherworldly.

All that said this is not a game for those who want everything from the start. If you don't have patience I can see yourself getting bored. But if you're up to the challenge, just like hiking, when you get to the summit (8+ hours into the game) you'll start to get why this game is special.

Unrealistic atmospheric game, worked out to the smallest detail. Addictive in the full program, despite the rather meditative gameplay, but still not many will fit this. From myself I recommend.

With that out of the way this game is one of the best and probably the most original game concept of 2019 period, sure it has a WTF story line ?, and infact thats what makes it so good, the concepts and ideas grafted into this game are nothing short of brilliant. It is fresh and original and no one that has gamed for 30 years can say otherwise the graphics are amazing and the facial graphics are the best I've seen ever in any game developed EVER, did I mention the soundtrack also nice as Sam can replay the tracks anytime in game you like. If you complete all the side missions as well this game has easily 100 hrs playing scope. Although it does get long winded and monotonous near the last act of the game the journey is worth it. Just remember to use your "options" controller button to skip through the fluff. Play this game with a headset on and experience the real feeling when you first encounter BT's for the first time. Forget the kiddy reviews listed , read the real one's and experience a game you would never conceive.A masterpiece in gaming and thanks for the fresh ideas Kojima even if you did get a little lost in your own story narrative at times. This game is a bold Odyssey of exploration and discovery and must be played in it's entitreity to appreciate the games magic easily a 9.5/10 and in my top 10 games of 2019

This walking simulator, fetch quest game which it is in essence reguardless of what you say shouts everything that I dislike about game's. But I read you gotta play it for yourself, make up your own mind. So I did and got hooked on everything I'm ment to hate.

As a world builder I honestly think kojima is up at the top, and with his world's and stories he can realize those visions in his games. Unfortunately even with an amazing cast the delivery of these ideas fall way short. Kojima is a director, he needs writers to put his ideas in context. I understood the story he was telling, it and the conclusion was wonderful but some scene's where pure kojima and it made me angry. This is awesome dude why are you ruining it!?. Is it a lost In translation thing I don't know but it's what docks a point for me.

I got hooked on the gameplay loop, it's addictive. Some people are alcoholics, some people can restrain that addiction. I couldn't and that's why outside of the story stuff I mentioned above this is my game of the year.

When I wasn't playing it I was thinking about it. I get lots of games. Play them on release and some grab me some don't. But it's been 2 years since I started playing a game and I had 30 hours clocked in 3 days. I'm a busy dad I don't do that. If you didn't get hooked, addicted, sure you hate this game. It's **** everyone is sucking his *expletive*. But for the people that it did click with its brilliant. You know their are actually people out there that play 5 hours of fallout 76 every night, why, because it clicked. And if a game can click for a buggy mess why can't alot of people click with a new type of gameplay loop in a bug free beautiful landscape. He made an addictive game out of the stuff we all hate.

It must be noted the games slow start is too slow for some. And that's fair. That 10-15hr slog at the start is a hard sell and even though the **** this **** it's ment to make you feel gets rewarded later in the game. Alot of people won't hang that long or it just doesn't *click* before then. I loved the early game and that love grew through the game so I was always going to be the perfect person for this game. Even if I don't like fetch quests and walking Sims. Who knew!

Boss fights are epic, but not that challenging. I think he would rather have went full on postal simulator and less action part's. But maybe he felt his metal gear solid expectations ment he needed to include that style of gameplay. Mules where fun but not challenging. I just wanted to deliver stuff. BTs in the early game are intense, scary as hell but that feeling couldn't last the whole game and became a slight annoyance. But the zip line I created over the windfarm is amazing and I give them BTs the middle finger as I zoom over them with 250kg of cargo.

The online component is genius. It's like a social site that you can only like their content. No comments, no dislike, no trolling (no review bomb). In death stranding the guy that tells me he shags my mum is liking my bridge over that river with the red markers. And I even liked his rope. Reconnect America, in this game at least he sort of is.

Sounds great, graphics are amazing. Bug free for me on a 3 year old base PS4. Some janky animation at times but I was hitting a lot of rocks so lol.

In conclusion I do seem to have many issues or grips with the game like many reviews had but my experience with the game was addictive, morish, I will remember my play through in 10 years time. And I'm back on it going for 100%.

Best walking simulator ever. Keep on keeping on

For people who think this is just one big fetch quest, you could not be more wrong.
Once you get over the sea, there is a much larger area which opens up for you. It really starts being difficult to get around - BTs, terrorists everywhere, rough terrain, a lot of deep rivers with strong current. Basically, the world becomes your enemy, anywhere you go. Every step is a challenge that you need to plan ahead for and think about. Every second you need to be on your toes.
It really took cooperation what needed to be dozens of players to find materials and build roads, safe houses, generators, etc. along the supply line. The feeling when we completed road going through the entire area was just priceless. What was a wasteland full of deadly traps became an area where you could drive your e-bike freely and safely.
And that's what I guess does it for me. This unprecedented system of players cooperating together, finally, not to kill a bunch of enemies, but in a positive way, helping each other to stay alive and to make life easier. The sheer positivity of providing others means to scale mountains or cross rivers more easily, and the satisfaction of knowing how many people used the road that YOU built.
That's where Kojima really nailed it IMO.

So, apparently, some people don't know that youtube reviews are a thing or have come from the eighties, when we bought games without really knowing.

This game isn't divisive. The larger portion of players have US culture shoved up so far up their asses they don't recognize the smell of feces in it anymore. When something different appears they think it's bad because it doesn't conform to the typical narrative and gameplay style. If this game was made with their mindset, Sam would be building bridges and uniting people by killing and blowing up stuff.

instead of the actual repetitive gameplay people accuse this game of, Kojima is telling a story that uses Sam's job as courier as a framing device, while preaching about union and interdependence. No wonder the game would be 'divisive'... People from the US have convinced themselves that they are too independent and modern isolationist culture doesn't help, where people changed interrelationship with social media. Ironic, considering the game's mechanics and constant use of holography. Probably intentional.

Complaining that the game is repetitive is akin to complaining that all you do in any game is push buttons on a controller or saying that people keep shooting each other in FPS games. Curious how this BS only surfaces when people don't like the game. It's about practical problem-solving in relation to plotting routes and getting cargo where it needs to be, while facing threats and ensuring that stuff isn't delivered damaged.

    Story-wise, it is a Kojima-brand delight.

The graphical quality is not the best, but it is enough with the style of games Kojima has always made. There is no room to complain, with well used effects and well crafted maps and locations.

The soundtrack shines as bright as the story.

The only real bad thing is the asinine criticism and the fact that it is an exclusive.

A weird and absurd story with over the top characters, an absolutely stunning world to explore and now that i think of it, I actually liked the walking simulator bits. Giving this game lower than a 5 is absolute nonsense. I could see this game not being someones preference due to the style of story telling or the game play loop, but there is a lot of really respectable elements here that are good no matter what your preferences are.

Obviously with a ton of user reviews, many of the people have never played it before. Many have watched youtubers do

Obviously with a ton of user reviews, many of the people have never played it before. Many have watched youtubers do half baked reviews. Some read the IGN review, which hadn't even completed the game even though it was their job and responsibility to do so. A lot of mental conditioning for people definitely changed perceptions of the final product.

As for how I feel, this game is a slow burn and a beautiful cumulative journey. It took about 10 hours or so for it to really start clicking for me. I challenge people who are on the fence with this game to Redbox the game or borrow it from a friend and at least get through Chapter 5. I also suggest they focus strongly on story missions ONLY to that point, unless they really get sucked in to the gameplay loop. The game slowly trickles exciting events and better gear, then all of a sudden really takes off.

As the final credits rolled, I realized I had never experienced a game with such a sense of journey and adventure before. The parts that are difficult or a bit boring are completely intentional - they lead to much bigger highs later. From Chapter 9 onwards, I couldn't put the controller down and I pulled an all nighter to complete the story. I haven't done that for a game since... At least 10 years ago.

The story has some camp, but it is packed with emotions and some well thought out philosophies. You can feel the Kojima brand humor and story bits throughout. You can tell that his personality is a deeply thoughtful and conflicted man, while also a goofy side who wants to have some fun. This isn't for everyone as the tonal shifts can be jarring, but to me it is perfect. This is easily his most complete story ever. Even Metal Gear Solid (PS1) gave a feeling of unresolved issues (intentionally), whereas this game gave no obvious hints towards a direct sequel. Yet I want more from this universe.

If memorizing a bit of jargon and immersing yourself in a strange world isn't your thing, you'll be turned off. If you just want to turn on your console for 30 minutes and have a few rounds, this isn't your game. This game requires you to immerse yourself and empathize with the characters. You have to project a bit since saving Amelie is your goal - a big sister role that people have criticized. "Why do I care about her? I haven't interacted with her." Detractors will say, and I agree to an extent, but I think it goes without saying this person who helped raise you and look out for you (Sam), that Sam has a family love for, is someone worth saving. You don't have any connections with others at the start, but by the end you'll have made a lot of connections with a great support cast.

Go in with an open mind and recognize this isn't an arena shooter, an MMO, a looter, or even a tactical espionage game. This is something completely different. A cohesive narrative intertwining with a gameplay loop that ties directly into its philosophy. It is an adventure and any real adventure has highs and lows.

You can love or hate Kojima but he is a genius. I was playing this game like crazy for over 200 hours. The story is quite exceptional and intriguing, the graphics quality is great and the game mechanics are great.

Loving the game so far. Pro: story, graphics and world. Cons: how the menu works.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
