    My first experience of a Kojima game and In my opinion it’s an amazing game and story! In the first few hours I was often frustrated with the gameplay however it really picks up from episode 3 onwards and the slow start makes sense in the context of the game. The visuals are amongst the best I’ve seen. The story had me completed gripped and was pretty emotional! I think anyone who is tooMy first experience of a Kojima game and In my opinion it’s an amazing game and story!     Great game, the best game released in years. Ignore the haters and try it yourself. Such an obvious review-bombing troll campaign. Death Stranding is perfect, it's exactly what the industry needs.

    This game deserves 10 point, this game is not for everyone, it looks and plays beautiful, the Legend Kojima and his Team is behind of this Masterpiece.
    If you Love Kojima, then you'll definitely love this game.

    This game had me worried from some of the negative conversations I had heard from igns podcasts and review. But I am so glad I moved past those opinions and gave death stranding the time it deserves.
    Death stranding definitely takes the cake with being the kind of game that expects you to take your time and experience something unique.     Death stranding definitely takes the cake with being the kind of game that expects you to take your time and experience something unique. This is 100% where the mixed opinions would spiral from. But oh boy if this clicks for you and then your in for one of the most interesting worlds this generation has to offer. The direction and ambition from Kojima productions is second to none. This is one of those games that only come around every so often. And like games like shadow of the collosus and the last guardian it may have its flaws but this experience will stay in the back of my mind for a very long time. There is plenty of game to be played here with an interesting world. If your still sitting on the fence with this one I highly recommend watching Digital Foundry’s overview of Death stranding. Their game coverage holds up exceptionally as always!

    After Ep 1-2 the game starts and gets more and more addictive. Can only recommend everyone to experience the game, you have to get involved.

    For people that is saying it is a "boring game, walk simulator" they did not got the game, maybe they are better with a no story, racing, sport or just shoot them all game.

    Every time you got a new package to deliver and then you see the distance, weather and that you cannot go there with a vehicle you start planning your routes and trying to take the most quantity of weapons and climbing tools but also to go as lighter as possible (so you are less likely to fall and damage your packages or exhaust Sam completely before reaching your destination AND RETURN), this is a game for someone who likes to take it slow and plan stuff carefully.
    The satisfaction of delivering a package that took you a hard, long and risky walk is really good.
    It took me a while figuring out the menu, due to all the info in it, but once I did ist pretty easy to understand.

    Cada vez que recibis un paquete nuevo y ves la distancia, el clima y que no podes llegar ahi en vehiculo, comenzas a planear tus rutas y tratar de llevar la mayor cantidad de armas y equipo de escalar pero sin cargarte demasiado (asi es menos probable que caigas y dañes tus paquetes o que agotes a Sam antes de que llegues a tu destino Y VUELVAS), este es un juego para alguien a quien le gusta tomarse las cosas con calma y planearlas cuidadosamente.
    La satisfaccion de entregar un paquete que requirio de una dificil, larga y riesgosa caminata es genial.

    Put simply Death Stranding IS a masterpiece.
    Not only is it iconic but it's groundbreaking in the way it creates its own genre and boldly setting itself apart from the crowd.
    The visuals are spectacular the characters engaging and the soundtrack emersive. GOTY? Yes. Easily.

    The game is wonderfully written in it's execution from the reluctant hero Sam, to the bizarre scifi/supernatural concept it's based in and around. The game takes basis of our past to create a narrative, and does so well when you allow yourself to get lost in it and take time to read the recovered archives, emails, and more sent to Sam.

    In essence, you've got a game that tells a wonderful story, while also being a message, for those willing to look deeper and see it. The best part are negative reviews, once you play and understand the message and medium that Death Stranding is, you realize negative reviews are kind of funny. :>

    With the awesome story woven into gameplay meant to be enjoyed, and paced, you have a deeper message that half the people who play the game will not catch, and that's just the nature of the beast these days. Hopefully it changes. -- More on that below.

    Negative reviews are exactly what they show for the most part, people that don't understand the game because instead of investing to learn and see exactly how Sam is doing what we don't do today: The leg work to connect with people, face to face, instead of over a socially disconnected network.

    The game blatantly throws the disconnected social aspect at you via Sam, one man played by many people, reconnecting the world. You hear from NPCs how they seem him everywhere, how could be be one man, etc.

    It's more than a game, it's a message for those willing to wake. (Even this is parodied by nightmares throughout the game in the private room.)    … Expand

    At first i was waiting to not like this game but once i found out about the social building and i got weapons to fight the bts it all became a collection of raiding, farming and building to help not just me but all players. Its the most engaged i've been in a game in a while. While a lot of ppl seem to be rating this badly out of spite, I've found the story captivating, and emotional.     Death Stranding is an utter masterpiece ! The asynchronous multiplayer component is a generation defining feature that future games will adopt no doubt. It's extremely slow paced at the start and the long exposition filled storytelling won't be for everyone but those who are used to Kojima's brand of storytelling will be right at home here.

    This game came out exactly when I needed it. It's not for everyone, but got me it was just what I was looking for. In the midst of a cross-country move. Feeling alone, afraid, and full of anxiety. While this game mirrors the feelings I am having, it shows me that I am never alone.

    It's the kind of game that keeps you going to find answers which are all part of the plot. The adventure, building, and uniqueness are all hugely engrossing and satisfying. I'm a huge fan of simulation games, city builders, FPS, and open-world games. Death Stranding ticks every box and is purely satisfying on many levels. The one down-side is the replayability - I don't think there isIt's the kind of game that keeps you going to find answers which are all part of the plot.     Anyone complaining about walking everywhere just showed that they didn't play it for very long. You get the first vehicle pretty early on. And later you can steal vehicles from the bad guys. So much fun! In addition to delivering packages, you get to fight bad guys of various form. You can build roads, and then things that are better than roads! And this is in collaboration with the others on your server, so, for example, the zipline network is made up of multiple players' towers. There is combat, and it is nicely done, with an interesting progression of weapons. Even after vehicles are acquired, there are missions that require climbing up a damned mountain: parts of the map that I assumed were off limits (and they would be in any other game) are places I had to go climb. And now we have ziplines over them!

    The cut-scenes are terribly repetitive. Who knew that there would be a game where taking a **** was a mechanic. Who knew that that mechanic would require skipping FOUR cut-scenes. *sigh*. I've pressed option-right-X so many times. And yet I'm still playing it and enjoying it.

    Perhaps, if the game is too frustrating, try it on Easy. I'm assuming that harder modes require more slog before getting things like a vehicle, or enough resources to build roads and bridges. The game is worth playing through, even if that means making it easier.    … Expand

    I'm almost done with the game, I was very sceptical, but I'm glad I bought this game, it is my personal game of the year.

    The mood, the cutscenes, the exploring is fantastic, you can argue about the gameplay, but I'm enjoying it A LOT, especially in the later chapters, where you have a lot freedom at how you approach things. I find myself helping others more, than playing the actual story    I'm almost done with the game, I was very sceptical, but I'm glad I bought this game, it is my personal game of the year.

I find myself helping others more, than playing the actual story knowing that you help newer players if you build a street etc. Is very satisfying, and you keep wanna help your fellow travelers trough the harsh journey.

    Most user scores make me really sad, because it's clear they either havent played the game trough chapter 3, or simply dont understand what this game is about.

    If you want a unique experience, give this game a try, force yourself trough the first chapters, and get rewarded with what the game ACTUALLY has to offer.    … Expand

    Truly something incredible. Kojima set out to make a game that is intentionally tedious to hammer in the theme of coming together. There is so much hate in the world and this is why there isn't a dislike button on the things you build. Sure, it seems incredibly boring and stupid but it's meant to.     Any user that rates this less than 8; calls the game a walking sim or compares it to fed ex; hasn't played past chapter 2. So ignore them.

    This game is something different and a work of art, it's art that tells a story, art that needs to be lived. Give it a go and see for yourself.

    Amazing game in all accounts, if your still on the fence about this game weather or not to play it, take the plunge, I've never had so many feelings come through in a game in the way death stranding delivers its heavy story and theme, a true work of art in every respect, safe travels porter!

The gameplay evolves as you progress and the variations in gameplay from combat to traversal are fantastic. Recommend playing on hard. Would probably give it a ten, but there are quite a few janky animations that cost me perfect deliveries. FantasticSuch a brilliant game, and a lot to unpack overtime. It won’t come together story wise until the latter half of the title but it’s worth it. The gameplay evolves as you progress and the variations in gameplay from combat to traversal are fantastic. Recommend playing on hard. Would probably give it a ten, but there are quite a few janky animations that cost me perfect deliveries. Fantastic title, highly recommend playing. I believe people who got angry or upset at RDR2 for not letting you run in your camp. Are the people who won’t like this game. (You don’t always need to spam X)

    1. Игра долго раскачивается, погружает вас в мир игры, показывает механики, думаю многих это может достать. 2. Такое ощущение что игру делали по ходу набора людей в новую студию, все о той же медленной раскачке. 3. Реально был период когда не понимаешь зачем ты в это играешь, следующая доставка и    Прошёл игру сегодня. Впечатление после прохождения очень положительное.
    Кратко на тему игры.
    1. Игра долго раскачивается, погружает вас в мир игры, показывает механики, думаю многих это может достать.
    2. Такое ощущение что игру делали по ходу набора людей в новую студию, все о той же медленной раскачке.
    3. Реально был период когда не понимаешь зачем ты в это играешь, следующая доставка и потом ещё одна и ещё одна, кат сцена, опять доставка. Достает это....
    4. Потом пройдя где то 60% худо бедно на изучении игры и паре хороших кат сцен разрабов видать торкнуло, ну или штат нормально пополнился и пошло самое что ни на есть мяско, прям как положено, с привязанностью к персонажам, раскрытием сюжета, драматическими моментами и так далее.
    5. Именно за эти 40% ставлю 10-ку, правда там ещё крутая механика игры, физика ну и вот это все НО за атмосферу и итоговое раскрытие сюжета эта игра стоит покупки.
    6. Тем кому не понравилось как по мне просто не въехали или не хотели въезжать ожидаю очередную военную драму от Кодзимы...    … Expand

The story was very deep and engaging within an extravagant dystopia post apocalyptic setting. Imagine watching a movie and wondering what happens between scenes for the characters, this game “bridges” those moments with a nice dose of reality. Is there a lot of walking around, yeah there is until you are capable of building your own vehicles and then using zip lines. I dont see replay value other than to look for easter eggs but you don’t have to start a new game for that. I believe i missed out on some missions because I didn’t keep up with my mail until later. I would replay just for those as it seems like they have to be completed at specific times and not at the endgame open play.

    I will admit this may take a particular gaming palate for someone to fully appreciate this work of art. Because that is what Kojima has created here.    … Expand

    Obviously not for everyone but personally found this game to be quite a masterpiece. I couldn’t put it down until I beat it and even after I’m jumping back in from time to time. The story was just wonderful and moved me the way I was moved by games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn. The world is just so unique and mysterious. A great entry point for me as this is my firstObviously not for everyone but personally found this game to be quite a masterpiece. I couldn’t put it down until I beat it and even after I’m jumping back in from time to time. The story was just wonderful and moved me the way I was moved by games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn. The world is just so unique and mysterious. A great entry point for me as this is my first Hideo Kojima game. Not everyone will like this sort of game, but it’s an experience you really can’t find anywhere else.… Expand

For me.... that is Death Stranding. Since 2016 I have watched every trailer over and over. I've watched you tubers break down those trailers. The community theorize over and over up until release day. If you watched a film based on a book and loved it... youd probably want to buy the book to fully be immersed in the narrative. The trailers and theories for me are the film. The Game is the book. I can only hope for a VOL. 2. If you are blind to the game... have no idea about any of it.... then you'll probably most likely not fully enjoy it the way I have. It can take about 5-6 hours of a linear approach to really get going. After that.... The world will be yours to explore, alone, but connected. Maybe even to me. :)… Expand

    Porting brings a peace that is not found in most games. The story is interesting, though there were times when it was over simplified and others when things were poorly explained. Overall it was an enjoyable and refreshing gaming experience! Zip lining is the most fun I've had in a game in a while!

    I would say this is one of the more polished and better games of 2019.

    Yes it's a very beautiful game and yes the story is confusing until a point but that is sort of expected from a hideo Kojima game. I seriously do look forward to the next game that he makes but I hope it isn't another Death Stranding.

    I got more than 20 hours now and Im in chapter 3. The delivery topic which other reviewers seen in a bad way is of course a main characteristic on the game, but: the faster you move forward with the story, the easier this will be. So don’t waste all time in the 1st area and leave with the ship as you get the offer.

    What I really like a lot, is the way the multiplayer working this game. Instead of putting all gamers in a overfilled world, you can participate in the buildings they made and build streets and bridges together with materials everyone spend. It’s such a great pleasure to run through an rough terrain and find ladders, ropes and bridges other players left for you.

    This is one of the best games of the last years! I enjoyed once the story of the original mafia and gtaV is still one of my favorites. But death stranding got now my number 1!    … Expand

    I was suffering from a mild anxiety since May this year, and playing through Death Stranding, rebuilding UCA, connecting to the    Death Stranding delivered everything I wanted and expected in a Kojima-san game. Heck, thinking more through it, it totally surpassed my expectations: visuals, gameplay, performance, fun-factor, score, soundtrack - everything, in fact - is brilliantly executed.
    I was suffering from a mild anxiety since May this year, and playing through Death Stranding, rebuilding UCA, connecting to the main characters and other Porters made me feel complete and helped cure my issue. I can safe say Death Stranding is exactly what I need and it came at the right time.
    I quite don't understand or agree on the users low score or the reason they find it boring (every game is going to point A to B), but I respect their opinions. I just say with you are in doubt, maybe this game is not for you (or any other game you are in doubt of, as a matter of fact). However, Death Stranding will stay in my mind for years to come, with so many memories to cherish with BB and other, coupled with the music from Low Roar.... What a game!    … Expand

This is one of the most amazing aspects of the game: everything has a purpose that ultimately culminates in something even more extraordinary.

    Just like the other Kojima games, killing people in DS is a bad idea, and as bad as it may be, it is still nice to see how the game world changes if you go out killing everyone.

    Also, DS gameplay is amazing, unique and addictive. As you progress, the gameplay gets more complex, making you think very carefully in what you will use.

    The characters are striking and charismatic and DS story is one of the most incredible and complex this generation, and even the previous one.

    The last time I was so intrigued by a game was back in 2013 with TLOU.

    DS is just an extremely remarkable and humanized experience that I will never forget.

    Basically, you spend lots of time walking, exploring and making deliveries. Other players can leave things in your world to be helpful (constructing roads, warning signs, ladders, climbing ropes, etc) but this is a single player game and a lonely one at that.

    You will occasionally encounter Mules (nomad porters), other friendly NPC porters or BT's (ghosts basically), but the majority of your time is spent traveling, pathfinding and managing cargo.

I wanted to read reviews before investing in such a different game. I believe it is true that shooting games and sports games are best sellers because they require skill and practice. Any game must require the player to master their intended skills and therefore the feeling of becoming better and better is what makes people love gaming ( apart from story, graphics , soundtrack etc which are minimal entry requirements nowadays) i dare to say gameplay is the foundation of video games ( physical reflexes for punching buttons quickly or difficult puzzle solving is mainly what we love TODAY!) this game does not require being skilled at neither physical reflexes nor puzzle solving, therefore you don’t have a game right? This enters another category, the movie category maybe, death stranding is a 40 hours long real time movie filmed in one shot? Another category should be a new one called JOB SIMULATOR?, most people play games in order to escape the monotony of their lives and jobs , in a few words: to have a break! and the least thing most people want to do ( in occidental countries) is get a second job as a delivery guy on their free time, we mostly want to break things and throw shells to other go karts etc. BUT maybe there are some cultures who’s main life’s pillar is work ( like the Japanese ) and they might actually like to “EXPERIENCE ” another profession on their free time. Maybe I work as a dentist on real life and I would love to work as a delivery man in the middle of nature on my free time. Just saying this might be a sign of a future niche need out there ( one that we still don’t know we need)... not of “games” as we know them today but more as a mean to live a different virtual life, let’s say I am a mechanical engineer working at Toyota but I would like to experience life as a doctor, so I buy a doctor simulator game where I can experience being a doctor, and yes it might be monotonous but you get that’s the idea with any other job. Actual video games let you become pirates or cowboys in an already saturated market, FUTURE video games will let you become deliverymen, veterinarians , actors, etc. As for the experience of being this delivery man in death stranding I believe the itch behind Kojima’s game is to be able to scape your life and become a traveler, relax while you are delivering a package, the same way we all relax while we drive someplace ,take a hike, take a shower, assemble a lego set, these are opportunities for meditation and MAYBE that is the main purpose of this game, give the player a time to think about life etc. while he makes a delivery. THE ISSUE IS that if I am right and this is the main objetive behind the game , it was TERRIBLY MARKETED ( or was on purpose?) Since people don’t know how to judge this thing they compared it to Metal Gear or any other GOOD ACTUAL game they love and that is why it sucks for many people, they bought a job simulator thinking they where getting “something else” cooler, etc . On the other hand if they have marketed as the thing it is, this game would have sold 10% what it has sold on its release date because it would be a game for an actual relatively small niche that still don’t know they have an itch for these kind of experiences. It would be great if they launched this game with a DEMO! so we could all try it and know beforehand if this is the experience for us or not before spending 60 USD. In summary, I believe new experiences are coming to video games and we might someday be able to live other lives that don’t resume to violence against someone or competition as we know it in video games , I am talking about something more like being able to be a fireman on your free time, become a marketing advisor for a great firm, becoming an astronaut, Why not? Why not being a fireman this year and be a chef the next? Real life only allow most of us to have one profession in a lifetime . Let’s hope innovation comes sooner than later because we are getting bored of killing zombies or shooting something new year after year. Take for example Detroit : become human game, it is a job simulator as well , a negotiator detective job while facing the “west world dilema” of being a Droid. We need innovative experiences!… Expand

    I have to dock it 1 point due to the fact that this game is not for everyone. This game played differently than your average game. You play as a mail man in an attempt to rebuild America. However this is a Kojima game so the story is more complex than you would think. The Gameplay is simple but its the terrain that makes the game play challenging and provacative.     Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it.     This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

    Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
