This is not fun, look at any youtube video of this game before you buy they all look the same. Uninspired maps, outdated engine, monotonous gameplay, laughably bad death rendering, cheap sound effects. Why are you doing this every year? You certainly are not doing it for the initiated gamer!

The shallow attempt to advance this game have gone worthless. I bought it reading the reviews hoping it would be more like Titanfall. I was wrong. The only thing that they changed has been the fact you can jump real high and climb up on stuff, which sounds cool at first, until you realize you move really slow and jumping makes you a bigger/slower target (just like sprinting). So what will happen is, you will run into a room, and get shot in the back by a guy standing in the corner, Just like every other Call of Duty Game ever. The random respawns are horribly annoying because people spawn directly behind you and shoot you in the back. (classic call of duty) The story mode is a joke. I played through the entire Call of Duty Ghost's campaign and thought it was okay it was short but i liked it for the most part. But this is just horrible, The character progression the story, everything seems like a crappy fiction story someone wrote at 12 years old. The graphics are extremely overrated, Lots of terrible terrible environments made shiny by some filters, I wish I could attach some pictures highlighting this, but I cannot. Maybe I am not the best person to be reviewing this because I haven't enjoyed a COD game since MW2 but this game has not brought back anything to the franchise or added any truly new exciting features. Please just let Call of Duty die. Thanks Expand

All the guns the same and the game modes the same as previous. Lots of grasshoppers everywhere. Total regurgitated from previous COD's. Totally boring but then I may be suffering from COD burnout. My advice save your money.

COD: AW feels impressive, but it still lacks.

First things first, whenever you deny it no, the game looks beautiful. Faces look godly impressive, and its environment feels beautiful. Its a next-gen looking game.

And Multiplayer is still fun as well. Adding in its still balanced and yet fun gameplay mixed with a Titanfall free-flowing mechanics. Its a more faster COD. And it feels fresh.

And believe it or not, I'm quite happy that they have this Advanced Warfare feel to it. Sure, its not WWII that its was, and I still wish it went back to those ages, but overall, its cool...

    BUT

The campaign mode. Its GOD AWFULL

Ok, sure, its better then Ghost, I will give you that, but it still feels barebones and rushed. Like all the other ones. First, we are randomly thrown into South Korea to go kill some North Koreans without a "Why?" and then crash into some building and mow down our way through some Koreans. What happens then? Some more BS story.

So overall, its not bad, nor good. This COD is an OK. I only recommend it for its highly addicting multiplayer.

Well, it has been used YET AGAIN in Advanced Warfare, except this time your wearing a cloaking device instead. It starts of in predictable COD manner, on a plane that is about to explode. And there is the bit where you have to hide and wait for yet another convoy to go by. It just recycles missions from past COD's again. I'm amazed that they even attempted to get away with this, again! It really is short of imagination. The only new things really are a "double jump" and a "dodge move". Advanced Warfare is touted as an all new game that will reignite the franchise. But i don't see how giving people more of the same is doing that. The Future setting has been done to death now too. And Advanced Warfare is basically Black Ops 2.5. It needs to go back to more realistic, current or past warfare. The graphics aren't anything special either. Because the game runs at 60FPS means the graphics have to take a hit. As a result, interiors etc feel very plain, and the maps in multiplayer are dead when it comes to detail and content. But that's the price you have to pay when you want a game to run at 60FPS. Multiplayer is also more of the same but with different guns and a few extra moves. But overall you won't really notice the difference and could easily mistake this for a past COD game that you've already played a million times over. Expand

Does Activision not want its fans to have fun anymore? Besides the new graphics and the TitanFall-esque gameplay, this is just boring. 1 good point about the Activision games, they are the ONLY ones who allow people to host private matches, something that is void on every next gen game, PS4 anyways. Advanced Warfare may just well be the best Call of Duty game, if only because it tries to be Titanfall. Which was a damn good game, for all of its lack of content. It's just another call of duty run-and-gun antigravity mess, but now you can jump upwards like you've installed commando and attacked the sun, and you can dash to the side. Glad they're taking ideas from both Titanfall, and a flash game from 2001.

So, originality? Not exactly this game's finest. But, to be fair, it works. It's an acceptable game, and it met my low expectations.
TL;DR Literally painful visuals (It isn't **** cinematic, IGN, it looks like the characters have pedalbin trashcans on their heads when they talk. Their mouths flap open like god damn Goat Simulator.), an unoriginal concept that's executed in a boring way, gameplay that is now more **** and less predictable than CoD: Goats, and an acceptably made shooter overall.
Still, this does more than most games at disproving the theory that games can be considered art. I don't think that anyone made ye olde mad stacks by ripping off the Mona Lisa once every **** year.

The one point that prevents it from being a 10 is the singleplayer. Dont get me wrong, its quite good, but and it tries to be different (hell yeah, stealth, but only for one mission...) but it feels a bit empty. This campaign is altough much better than all the previous one from Ghosts.

Don't think I'm a COD fanboy because I didn't buy Ghosts and I also have criticism on other COD games, but this one is really, really good in my opinion.

Advanced Warfare brings CoD a really nice, fresh, innovative part. I would recommend this to everybody who likes to play CoD. It doesn't matter if you were ''COD-tired''. You should definitely pick this one up.

Two critical problems: 3D movement and time to kill. Both of these factors combined means that you'll get shot in your blind areas and die quickly. My KD ratio has been 2+ since BLOPS 1 but in AW it was exactly 1.00. There's hardly any gunfights. That's what makes COD fun. That's the point. When you die very very quickly and can get shot from 18 different angles you and your enemy will just take turns killing each other in your blind spots. It's just boring as f*ck and the reason I stopped playing. To be blunt this is not Call of Duty. I dont understand why Activision feels like it needs to keep pushing Call of Duty into the future. Exo suits, lazer guns, and cloaking is not what Call of Duty should be. The only reason I feel AW deserves a 3 is because the map design is very well done and Activision finally added a loot system.

I considered mw3 the worst call of duty of all time and strongly believed no game in this franchise could possibly take its crown, until now. Advanced warfare makes mw3 look like call of duty 4 in comparison, it is a absolute, unconditional disaster with little to no redeeming value.

Starting with the single player, a 4 hour linear shooter with very little story, just you a gun and mowing down endless "bad guys". The voice acting is excellent, but countless quick time events and no character building lead to an irritating, bland and very forgettable single-player experience. If you buy cod for its single-player(not like anyone does) spending £40 for Kevin Spacey(who is House of Cards, but more militarised) is a waste, spend it on lots of prescription drugs to give to your friends who play the multiplayer.

People may not care about Kevin's wacky antics in the single-player and buy this game solely for it multiplayer experience. Well advanced warfare's multiplayer is so bad it does a disservice to it's licence; the spawns are broken with you constantly being shot almost immediately after you spawn in. There is no gun balance, its Bal-27 or ASM-1 otherwise you will just lose every gunfight to the player using those guns(which is everyone). The maps are terrible too small very little verticality, so no real use to the exosuits. Instead of building a game around the exosuits they built a standard call of duty game and threw them in thinking it would work. There is a good reason Titanfall's maps are big and its not just because they have huge robots fighting in them. But all of these issues become somewhat minor when the hit detection in the game is broken, very broken. Its next gen consoles and still Activision will not fork out the money for dedicated servers, peer to peer is **** will they get the memo? Unlikely. The hit reg does not work you will die with no visual recognition of it, you just fall over; you will be constantly killed through sight lines that are blocked with obstacles or shoot first only for the game to disregard your bullets in favour of your opponents. The whole thing feels like pure luck instead of skill.

The question must be asked is, is it worth your money? With all of the above you can guess absolutely not, maybe if it is was £20, but at its current price definitely not.

I've never experienced a game, where the developers main focus is to allow players to use "cheats" that would get you banned in other games. Those being:

I can see through walls with my gun sight (wall hack). I can shoot through walls (another wall hack). Another gun site lights up all players in front of you in bright red (Skinning Hack). Another gun will track onto lit up targets (Aimbot). Now if that isn't enough to make you an uber player... let's bring in the toys..... shall we? We now have "Homing Grenades" yes, the hand grenades can be tossed in the general direction of the enemy and they will home in onto them, no defense. You have hand grenades that light up every player camping in a building. So I pull out my no skill, shoot through a wall gun, and casually kill everyone. - Homing drones. Yes, boys and girls, you can take this paper airplane looking thing... toss it into the air without a care in the world, and it will fly over the battlefield and when it sees someone, homes in on them. Now, we have drones, that allow everyone to see everyone on the battlefield. A player tosses one of these no brainers into the air, and other players on the team, can join in on the fun, and rain hell down on everybody. And since it sees everyone on the field. You can kill everyone pretty easy. Lightning strikes obliterate anyone in it's path. Cover or no cover. If it flys over, you're dead.

Oh the nifty new dodge feature/gimmick. It allows you to glitch your movement. It's not fluid, and it looks stupid, because the animation is stuck while you do it. And it lights you up on the minimap instantly when you bolt a few feet in a direction. Then you're dead because since the maps are so small, everyone can shoot everyone as long as you can see them. Since everyone can pretty much see everyone, what's the point? You may as well avoid all that, remove the buildings. Put everyone on a flat surface and give them all uzi's.

Sound is horrid. Simply horrid. My surround sound headphones that are normally filled battle sounds and positional sound mapping, is confusing, because sounds just go in and out at random. Very quiet battles. Nobody yelling, nobody saying anything.

Oh a shotgun can be silenced. Shoots like a full automatic rifle, and sounds like a small handgun. The positional 3D should be disabled, because where the footsteps seem to be coming from one direction, they are actually someplace else, because the sound processing is so weak, it's confusing. Turn off your surround sound gear because it makes things worse.

Graphics.... ON a high end graphics card, it is pretty bad. No shading, I don't see any benefit for having shadows on, because you really can't see them, but they do appear to have a negative impact on performance,.... shut them off, because they aren't needed and will make things worse.

Maps are tiny. Tiny tiny. If you play Battlefield, Imagine taking a server of 24 people. Cram them all between A and B objectives on Metro. You get the idea. That's what ALL the maps are like. A smaller, crammed full small Rush Metro map. That's their "Conquest" size map. I get claustrophobic just loading into the map. If you want a quality, fast shooter, that requires some skill... Go play Titanfall. It's much more of everything COD:AW wants to be and more.

I wasn't a COD hateboy before buying this, but I am now. This is a joke. If you like it...good for you, but you must be seriously, easily amused or on a console. This is not PC gaming material. It's nearly an insult.

(if you're a player like I am, who games better when not putting all my brain power into getting revenge over other players who have P****d me off) I found myself struggling to play online well enough to not want to rage quit the matches and stay online due to not having many friends who I talk to and play with online on this new iteration. when playing online I found myself playing against people who have put hours into each map to find the best spots to camp or to head glitch and make sure they're nigh invisible. The online aspect of the game is quiet well rounded and I like the new 'Supply Drops' which give you new equipment such as guns with stat boosts which come with a downgrade to other stats to equal it out. I also enjoy customising my character to make them my own by using the equipment gained from 'Supply Drops' the graphics on the game are phenomenal this is mostly noticed when it comes to the cut scenes within the story as i felt like the characters looked as close to real as i have ever seen in a game. I got a bit side tracked, back to Multiplayer, the addition of the double boosts and dashes as such are a good addition to the game to make it that much more fast paced which is what i like about Call of Duty games, their pace the gameplay in this addition reminds me of MW2 which is great as that is one of my favourites in the series. In also like the map design there are several different styles of maps which is great as there are maps which want you to keep moving and jumping around but doing so does put you at a bit of a disadvantage as it makes you vulnerable, but there are other maps which rely on close combat and quick wits and reactions. Over all the game is great i enjoy the multiplayer (when i have people to be on with) and the campaign was great even though its a tad bit predictable. all in all one of my favourites in the franchise. Bravo, Sledgehammer. Bravo. I was pretty skeptical going into this, as Sledgehammer was its main developer, people who were heavily involved in that turd of a game MW3. However, once I got to playing this, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it.

Campaign - Although the campaign is still shorter than I would have liked, it was certainly better than Ghosts. But we don't talk about Ghosts.

Campaign - Although the campaign is still shorter than I would have liked, it was certainly better than Ghosts. But we don't talk about Ghosts. The characters, although it would be a bit of a stretch to say I legitimately cared about them by the end of the game, they were certainly good. Troy Baker kills it as Mitchell (but that isn't surprising), and Gideon (no clue who his voice actor is) is this game's Harper. And of course, Kevin Spacey plays the villain. I do not need to say any more. The premise, while good, is unoriginal. But it is executed rather well, so it didn't bother me too much.

Multiplayer - Take everything fun about CoD's multiplayer, and add in a metric f*ckton of jumping. It makes for a rather hectic, yet quite fun experience. Easily the best part of the game, but given that this is CoD, you probably already knew that. Also, instant fix for any possible screaming 8-year-olds you may find: There's this awesome new thing called a mute button! It's not that hard to use, either! How nice!

Conclusion - Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a strong entry in the Call of Duty series. While it isn't necessarily groundbreaking, it does add in several new things to keep the formula from becoming stale. I can see myself playing this for quite some time, and won't be embarrassed to have it in my games library (although I can't say that for certain OTHER, more recent games in the series). The campaign is short but fun, and is a nice distraction from the vastly improved multiplayer. There is an Exo-Survival mode pretty much identical to MW3's survival mode, but it is fairly underwhelming compared to the rest of the game. Oh, and did I mention the graphics? They're pretty nice.

    Verdict - 8.3/10

A great step forward for the franchise ! And it needed this after a fairly disappointing Ghosts the year before.
First things first the franchise finally looks like a true next-gen game, great character rendering, nice light effects, lots of details, etc. Although the sound could be better, the game is pretty solid on the technical side except the same old issue with no dedicated servers

First things first the franchise finally looks like a true next-gen game, great character rendering, nice light effects, lots of details, etc. Although the sound could be better, the game is pretty solid on the technical side except the same old issue with no dedicated servers for the online, the host system automatically makes it dependent on the connection of the other players and can be frustrating sometimes.

About the campaign, it was pretty good even if the story is quite predictable, there is plenty of nice and fun moments. It's also a little larger than the previous ones (count 6-8 hours to finish it) still insufficient in my books but better than 4 hours, especially that I didn't encountered many difficulties (and I played in Veteran) so the 6 hours are really the minimum.

Now the main thing about this new episode is the gameplay that is way less static than before, offering some vertical gameplay and speed boost to the game really helped creating an even more nervous FPS (and took care of most campers online) it really makes a difference while still being a Call of Duty (very easy to control).

In conclusion the game isn't the best in any domain, but it is solid in every one of them and makes Advanced Warfare a good choice for every FPS player.

The game is ok, certainly better than ghosts. Not a big fan of the futuristic feel and weapons, more old school but the balance works well. However I am giving the low score for feeling ripped off, the game costs £55 and feels lacking in content. But wait, We could pay £90 and get all the content they could have included in the main game if they were not trying to rip us off. Fed up withThe game is ok, certainly better than ghosts. A welcome outsider take on a consistent series, increasing the pace still further in online multiplayer to fantastic effect. However, solo play feels a bit safe in comparison. [Christmas 2014, p.79]
