People buy these games year after year, even when they know things don't change that much for the simple fact of having different maps. Yes we can buy map packs...but it's still something new. If you are expecting a great change...nope, not here.

The game is still fun to play as COD has always been. It deserves better ratings than what it is being given.

Yes I am still waiting for the breakthrough in some game to take me away from my COD fix. Nothing ever compares to the fast pace of the COD franchise. This game is an 8/10 and still waiting for something else.

There really are some fan-boys doing the rounds on here, does a game really warrant a 0 that its so terrible in your eyes? Do people deliberately go and slate a version on a rival platform because it bothers them so much?

I can;'t remember the last Call of Duty I played, the most memorable for me would've been the first Modern Warfare. After that I grew tired of the same thing happening every year while nothing else changed. It might be for the fact that I've not played the franchise for a few years that I'm actually really enjoying it so far.

I don't care what platform people own, its preferential choice at the end of the day. I'm reviewing the PS4 version because its the version I have. I expect the XB1 version to be pretty much identical just as I would expect last generation versions to be similar among themselves.

If you enjoy COD buy this game, if you're after a game which doesn't involve much thinking, can be played with friends and is genuinely entertaining buy this game. If you're insecure about the platform you own - grow up.

A person who is good with the game would have finished it in half the time. I understand that this franchise is geared mostly for customers who never play the campaign, however those who love the single player aspect of it get ripped off by a short campaign. Last year COD Ghost had a paltry story campaign and this year was a bit longer but I wanted more which I did not get. I will trade this game and as far as COD, I am done with the frachise. Expand

I skipped MW3 and Ghosts. I loved Black ops 2 a lot. This feels similar to black ops 2, and it is fresh enough to give me a reason to play it. I'm enjoying it so far into week one. Still feels like call of duty, but enough changes make it fresh.

I'd like to point out that Call of Duty is a shooter, and that's what you will get from this game. New things about this game are namely exo suit (there are different types of suits, some allowing double jump, some allowing cloak, etc), "new weapon" (they still shoot bullets after all) and futuristic theme (2054 vs 2024 of black ops 2), but three things are quite a lot. What score this game gets won't change anybody's mind: ppl who will buy it, will; ppl who hate the franchise, won't. And I'm happy with my purchase so far.

Also: zombie mode becomes a dlc this time around. Typical Activision...

I like the game so far put about 5 hours into the Multiplayer and completed the story. I enjoyed the games campaign mode it was full of decent varied missions from the stealth where you have to not be detected to the all out mayhem of just blowing stuff up and endless killing. the best part about these missions are the new Exo abilities, though they are only tailor made for each mission which could've been better allowing you to chose which abilities you wanted they were decent though i did find myself just wanting the double jump. another downside there is only one mission which allows you to use the stealth suit exo which I found rather enjoyable, yes you can use it online but it is easily visible to the other players and quite obvious the person is there if you pay attention. Now onto the main part of the review, which yes I am writing this a bit out of anger due to my last play session, the online multiplayer is fun. as long as you have friends to play with and talk to; to keep yourself from concentrating too much. (if you're a player like I am, who games better when not putting all my brain power into getting revenge over other players who have P****d me off) I found myself struggling to play online well enough to not want to rage quit the matches and stay online due to not having many friends who I talk to and play with online on this new iteration. when playing online I found myself playing against people who have put hours into each map to find the best spots to camp or to head glitch and make sure they're nigh invisible. The online aspect of the game is quiet well rounded and I like the new 'Supply Drops' which give you new equipment such as guns with stat boosts which come with a downgrade to other stats to equal it out. I also enjoy customising my character to make them my own by using the equipment gained from 'Supply Drops' the graphics on the game are phenomenal this is mostly noticed when it comes to the cut scenes within the story as i felt like the characters looked as close to real as i have ever seen in a game. I got a bit side tracked, back to Multiplayer, the addition of the double boosts and dashes as such are a good addition to the game to make it that much more fast paced which is what i like about Call of Duty games, their pace the gameplay in this addition reminds me of MW2 which is great as that is one of my favourites in the series. In also like the map design there are several different styles of maps which is great as there are maps which want you to keep moving and jumping around but doing so does put you at a bit of a disadvantage as it makes you vulnerable, but there are other maps which rely on close combat and quick wits and reactions. Over all the game is great i enjoy the multiplayer (when i have people to be on with) and the campaign was great even though its a tad bit predictable. all in all one of my favourites in the franchise. The exosuits were a risky addition but payed off & helps keep the game fresh. It feels more natural than I expected anyway. The downside tho is the maps had to be made to suit, and I'm not feeling them.

The Call of Duty series has garnered as much hatred as it has admiration. With COD it's hard not to make comparisons to past entries in the series. Even with this in mind, the game excels and surpasses even the most beloved COD games.
With this iteration things have been turned up to 11. The set pieces are bigger, things are definitely prettier and the game runs silky smooth. It feels fresh and the extra year they spent on the game definitely shows.

I think the reason gamers are hating on this one is that it hasn't revolutionized the series. It's not the game-changer everyone had hoped for. It's still a great game, but it is a COD game at it's heart. If you go into it with the expectation that it will be very similar to past games in the series, with a few changes and you enjoyed those past games, you will surely not be disappointed.

I do have to add that this game takes a huge dump on ghosts.

I respect that Ghosts and MW3 left a bade taste in peoples mouth's but please don't let that get in the way of stopping you from enjoying this solid experience. One more note; the graphics have actually received a nice boost and have the aesthetics of a real next gen game and thankfully, for the sake of game play, run at a smooth 1080p @ 60FPS with almost no frame rate issues such as stutter or drops. I would sincerely recommend this game to FPS fans, I believe that even if you didn't enjoy some of the previous few iterations of the Call of Duty Franchise, this should please you, just as it did to me (I am not the biggest Call of Duty fan due to some of the previous games).

I'll start off by saying Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is leagues ahead of the abomination that was Call of Duty: Ghosts and I think that doesn't surprise anyone. While the story is the typical CoD story of giant set pieces and relative predictability, during my time with the campaign I found myself just relaxing and enjoying shooting people in the head which is more than I can say for the last two Call of Duty games.
Online multiplayer is more or less of what i've come to expect from the franchise; Nine year olds screaming into their mics whenever I kill them the same way twice, the inevitable quick scopers(which should have been fixed by this point in the series) the constant lag problems i face with those who have a poor connection and the occasional nice guy who is a pleasure to play with.

Overall this game gets an 8/10 because while its more of the same in terms of Multiplayer the set pieces in the campaign and the EXO suits make playing this year's CoD just that much more entertaining and therefore deserving of some more play time this holiday season.

Bravo, Sledgehammer. Bravo. I was pretty skeptical going into this, as Sledgehammer was its main developer, people who were heavily involved in that turd of a game MW3. However, once I got to playing this, I found myself thoroughly enjoying it.

Campaign - Although the campaign is still shorter than I would have liked, it was certainly better than Ghosts. But we don't talk about Ghosts.

Campaign - Although the campaign is still shorter than I would have liked, it was certainly better than Ghosts. But we don't talk about Ghosts. The characters, although it would be a bit of a stretch to say I legitimately cared about them by the end of the game, they were certainly good. Troy Baker kills it as Mitchell (but that isn't surprising), and Gideon (no clue who his voice actor is) is this game's Harper. And of course, Kevin Spacey plays the villain. I do not need to say any more. The premise, while good, is unoriginal. But it is executed rather well, so it didn't bother me too much.

Multiplayer - Take everything fun about CoD's multiplayer, and add in a metric f*ckton of jumping. It makes for a rather hectic, yet quite fun experience. Easily the best part of the game, but given that this is CoD, you probably already knew that. Also, instant fix for any possible screaming 8-year-olds you may find: There's this awesome new thing called a mute button! It's not that hard to use, either! How nice!

Conclusion - Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is a strong entry in the Call of Duty series. While it isn't necessarily groundbreaking, it does add in several new things to keep the formula from becoming stale. I can see myself playing this for quite some time, and won't be embarrassed to have it in my games library (although I can't say that for certain OTHER, more recent games in the series). The campaign is short but fun, and is a nice distraction from the vastly improved multiplayer. There is an Exo-Survival mode pretty much identical to MW3's survival mode, but it is fairly underwhelming compared to the rest of the game. Oh, and did I mention the graphics? They're pretty nice.

    Verdict - 8.3/10

Year in, year out I see the same comments on the franchises such as CoD and FIFA, where people's main criticism is 'more of the same'. Whilst this is an entirely valid comment, I'm not sure what people expect from a well established franchise that sells millions of copies every year. If the formula is kept the same - people complain about repetition. If the game is changed too radically - people complain that the game is no longer the series they know and 'love'.

This is where CoD: AW get's the balance brilliantly. Without straying too far from the well trodden path of the CoD franchise, there isn't much wiggle room for a new developer to innovate. However, Sledgehammer have found the gap and exploited it beautifully with the new movement mechanics of the exo suit.

Make no mistake, the new changes in movement style results in a much harder FPS experience for the standard, casual gamer. The pace of the game is fast, and mastering the dashes and boots to effectively traverse maps and areas is difficult to become accustomed to. But with some persistence, the game becomes very rewarding, but most importantly FUN.

I find the word 'fun' to be the key one here. For me CoD has not been at all enjoyable since Black Ops, with Ghosts being the lowest troughs the series has seen. AW on the other hand, drags the series out of the muddy valley and at least onto the hillside of a peak, if not quite the apex.

Note this game is far from perfect. Still Activision have decided not to provide dedicated servers for the franchise (which I find completely astounding), and so issues with lag, connectivity and the much-hate 'bendy-bullets' persist. Sadly, this seems to have become somewhat of a trademark to the CoD series.

There are some odd implementations from the developer (which are being patched) such as equipment that can only be used for a limited time, and incredibly hard to attain camos (now patched), but overall, many of the new implementations work.

You may have noticed that I have been almost exclusively dedicating my writing towards multiplayer here, however, I have completed the campaign and there's not much to say here. It's the standard story line of most CoD (and modern FPS for that matter) games, with token missions and segments aplenty. One major point in the favour of the campaign is the cutscenes. The next gen power takes these to an entirely new level and they look incomprehensibly realistic.

The game as a whole (including in-engine) looks nice, but this is to be expected of a AAA title nowadays. The sound and music are solid and fairly immersive; especially when in an intense battle online or solo.

In spite of the glitches, mild gripes and standard online issues, CoD: AW is a well built FPS with a new edge for the series. Don't be fooled, this is not a revolution in gaming in any way shape or form. But it does what it says on the tin, it's Call of Duty, and all-in-all, CoD: AW is fun. For me this is the most important thing; after all, isn't that what games are meant for?

Sledgehammer seems to have found a happy medium between the super tiny, three lane monotony of BO2 with the huge, incongruous monstrosities that were featured on Ghosts. The exo suit additions are decent changes, but nothing that will knock your socks off. Hit detection seems good, although time/shots to kill need to be brought down a bit, imo. The new, update "pick 13" system was a great decision by Sledgehammer, and lets you customize your killstreak rewards in ways never before possible.

Overall, this is a solid CoD game. If you are a fan of the series, you will enjoy it and be grateful that they did not let Ghosts sound the death knell of the CoD franchise. There are a few balance issues and tweaks to work out, but overall, I am pleased thus far.

I am not the most dedicated Call of Duty fan. I only played three games in the series before my time with Advanced Warfare. I enjoyed Black Ops, hated MW3, and disliked Black Ops 2. However I am surprised on how much I enjoyed AW compared to the other games.

    Pros
+ Campaign missions are a blast with lots of different super-tech death machines to use.
+ Campaign is shorter but I felt more engaged to play it than the other CODs.
+ New abilities like the grapple hook, boost jump, overdrive, shield, etc. are game changing in the whole way a COD game is played.
+ The graphics in this game are unbelievable.
+ Multiplayer is as fun as ever with new modes and customization to try out.
+ Shooting controls are fantastic and majority of guns are very usable and varied.
+ Exo Survival is a fun co-op mode
    + Kevin Spacey!
+ Even though DLC, when zombies come, friendships will be strengthened.

    Cons
    -Short Campaign nevertheless
-Utter Waste of having Troy Baker voice act
    - The Campaign ending (What the hell?)
    - If you hate all COD games, this game won't change anything
    - Only three modes is my biggest problem again concerning a cod game.

Score: 8.1/10 (Rounded to a 8/10) Just because it is COD doesn't mean it is bad! Fun game that should be played before judged.

Following the disappointing Ghosts, Advanced Warfare marks a return to form for the Call of Duty series.

Campaign - While the majority of my time thus far has been spent in multi-player, what I have played from the campaign has been enjoyable, and a clear step up from recent COD titles.
The game looks gorgeous visually, and the character performances allow you to become immersed in what has been, for the first few hours, a coherent narrative. The "Advanced Warfare" also helps keep missions fresh, providing new toys to play with and experiences that aren't exactly identical to previous COD's. The only issue I've had thus far is with the quick time events. The prompts are so small you can miss them if you are drawn in to the action around you, which causes you to replay a section.

Multi-player - Fortunately this game builds off the multi-player from Black Ops2 and acts as if Ghosts never existed. This means the game has went back to the more traditional and addictive ways of unlocking items and completing challenges.
Some new features include the ability to modify score-streaks, a pick 13 system (instead of 10) and supply drops. The supply drops could have been an issue, since they are random, if it was the only way to unlock equipment, but instead they just add to the experience since they provide new apparel and modified versions of weapons that you can receive simply be leveling up.
The game also returns old modes while providing new as well, Uplink. Really there is something for everyone. Don't like the exo-suit? There is a classic playlist that allows you to play without it. However, that may be a mistake since the suit does open the game up and changes the dynamic of the entire experience. It provides a sense of experimentation and wonderment that has largely been absent from the series since the initial Modern Warfare.
The main negative at the moment has been lag and connectivity issues. This can be a major problem in a game like this, but it also is the first week, so such issues are not unexpected. It is worth monitoring how this is addressed or if it stabilizes here in the near future.

COD may not be the thinking-man's tactical first-person-shooter, but what Advanced Warfare does is bring the fun back to the series. And really, isn't that what you are looking for when you purchase and play a Call of Duty title?

A great step forward for the franchise ! And it needed this after a fairly disappointing Ghosts the year before.
First things first the franchise finally looks like a true next-gen game, great character rendering, nice light effects, lots of details, etc. Although the sound could be better, the game is pretty solid on the technical side except the same old issue with no dedicated servers

First things first the franchise finally looks like a true next-gen game, great character rendering, nice light effects, lots of details, etc. Although the sound could be better, the game is pretty solid on the technical side except the same old issue with no dedicated servers for the online, the host system automatically makes it dependent on the connection of the other players and can be frustrating sometimes.

About the campaign, it was pretty good even if the story is quite predictable, there is plenty of nice and fun moments. It's also a little larger than the previous ones (count 6-8 hours to finish it) still insufficient in my books but better than 4 hours, especially that I didn't encountered many difficulties (and I played in Veteran) so the 6 hours are really the minimum.

Now the main thing about this new episode is the gameplay that is way less static than before, offering some vertical gameplay and speed boost to the game really helped creating an even more nervous FPS (and took care of most campers online) it really makes a difference while still being a Call of Duty (very easy to control).

In conclusion the game isn't the best in any domain, but it is solid in every one of them and makes Advanced Warfare a good choice for every FPS player.

They surprised me this year. I always wanted cod to make a fun game again and so far they have. Plus this has to be one of the best cod campaigns i have played. I don't need to go into detail, but if you have not liked the past cods but still have a place in your heart for this game then you should pick this up. This cod is exactly what it needs to be with out being exactly what i use to be.

Well where do I begin, let's start off with the good news, the campaign is good the multiplayer is fun. But the worst part is the game that camping is still a thing to do in the game. Well if you hated ghosts most likely you'll like this game.

The multiplayer maps need work, but otherwise this is the best Call of Duty game in years. [Jan 2015, p.66]

A welcome outsider take on a consistent series, increasing the pace still further in online multiplayer to fantastic effect. However, solo play feels a bit safe in comparison. [Christmas 2014, p.79]
