Borderlands 3 is great addition to the series. It has some problem with performance in menus (PS4), but in general it is definitely not worst than BL2. Talent system is much better than before. They are much more like Dark souls now. Long, annoying bosses, which was made under co op. Half of their spells are just one-shoting you, which for borderlands game is not needed in my opinion. Most of them I have killed in 3-4 trys, but anyway it is pretty annoying every single hit, to bring you to almost 0 hp. This is borderlands... combat should be more dynamic and you shouldn't be afraid to go and shot boss with shotgun. This is what make game fun... not sniping them from as far as possible. As well I think that somehow legendary drop should be bigger. This is singleplayer game. I would expect much more and much better drop. People like to change their weapons and feel rewarded for killing big boss. Sometimes it was pretty disappointed after 10 minutes fight, to receive nothing even comparable to your current weapon as power. Expand

So I'm running the game on a PS4 pro (don't know if that does matter, but as some are having tech problems and some not, this might be a reason) and besides minor graphic glitches I didn't have any problems: game is loading fast, fast-travelling is really "fast" and saves time, no bugs, errors or any other sort of problems. Besides the tech-side I'm new to the franchise and playing it with my brother (who always loved the series) co-op (online not split-screen).
From what I can say so far, the game is really fun:
    - loads of loot (drop-rate is decent compared to other games)
    - character personalities are trashy (but that's what it should I think) and you can feel that they have put in a lot of work
    - skill system is not too complicated
    - gun-handling and controls are fine as well
    - missions do vary at this point (but this might be a little too early to say)

Considering other games of this genre, the best content might come in the endgame so I might change my opinion further playing. at this moment I would say it's a fun game but nothing overwhelming.

Borderlands 3 is a natural progression of it's predecessor in every way for better and for worse. When the game works its a chaotic looter shooter that feels like an awesome mashup of Destiny and DOOM 2016 with plenty of oomph to the weapons and enough character build diversity to keep players busy for hours on end.

However compared to other games in the looter shooter genre Borderlands 3 has a laughably bad story compared to the likes of Borderlands 2 which had charm throughout its run time despite how clunky the gameplay was. The humor is still subjective (I personally found it funny) but some moments and story beats are entirely centered around how the humor which works to both it's advantage and detriment.
Troy and Tyreen Calypso the main villains are good commentary on YouTube influencers but the problem is they are insufferable with their dialogue which to me gave me more motivation if anything to actually put a stop to them.
The story is the only real negative I can give but other than that the game is one of the best releases of this year and should be at least be checked out if given the chance.

Guns moving across the ground as if an AI was holding it and the sticky bomb guns having no legs to walk on yet behaves normally, those types of bugs. The game is far from being unpolished but it feels dusty.

Gameplay is enjoyable, the mixing of abilities feature doesn’t feel like it belongs in a borderlands game. Matter a fact, it hinders you more than improves you for mixing abilities.

I’d give it a try, if you want to, but I would wait for a sale to buy it.

I was optimistic despite the boring villains and unneeded death of Maya. But then I get to the end. The destroyer becomes a tiny boss and then Lilith after getting her powers back kills herself destroying the last bit of presequel left. The moon.
So ultimately the game is fun yet broken currently but the story feels like a terrible continuation from Jack.

I feel like BL3 got a SJW infection, it's not in your face but it's there. The jokes are dated and cringey. The writing is quite simply horrible. The bugs are insane. It deletes your Loot stash, enemies are stuck in walls, the interact button sometimes won't appear. They keep nerfing the Loot too. So if you've lost some good legendaries to the bank deleting bug too bad for you because they nerfed the drop rate across the board and you'll spend countless hours trying to get them back but they never drop. They pad game hours by making eridium crystals and texts unavailable until the game is nearly finished. So if you enjoy running the out h 5 load screens for relevant gin game story that was locked behind a stupid plaque you're in for a treat. It's honestly just not a good game. The shooting is fun. I never got tired of it. However the single player campaign leads you on a leash the entire time. Each quest involves a character directing you on the radio, which can stumble over itself. Once you pass an invisible line, the dialogue kicks in. You could already be in a dialogue and you can trigger another. Add on picking up Echo recordings, as I have done, and you can have 3 different dialogues stepping over each other when you’re not done with the first. (You can view/listen to all lore in the pause menu)
The areas in the game and large and there are more than I reasonably expected, which I was overly pleased with as a consumer. But fast travel points are limited. So if you need to sell off a full inventory of guns, you will have to restart at the beginning at a vending machine to then run back to where you left off. Enemies will respawn in each area for you to grind or just run by - which is more likely. I can’t say it’s bad, just the design they went with.
The bad is the NPC A.I. Anytime I had to follow a character, they slowly moved into place as though they are thinking hard about it. Sometimes the npc will get stuck and the game will need to be restarted. This happened about 3 separate times a good ways into the game. In all I had to restart my game no less than 5 times due to minor bugs.
I didn’t touch multiplayer but still enjoyed the single player very much. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that multiplayer works and adds another layer of fun and engagement for the game.
For the most part I enjoyed the writing. It’s a violent, slapstick world. Characters like Tina made me chuckle, while I found some like the character voiced by Chris Hardwick to be totally lame.
So I spent a good 30 plus hours in the game without even starting new game plus. There are a lot of elements that I thought about critically as I played the game. Ultimately, the game offers up so much content that is done well, I couldn’t help but feel like it’s giving me my money’s worth.

tl;dr Wait to buy. Unfinished classes/characters. Serious framerate/lag issues (PS4 Pro).

Had you asked me at or soon after launch, I probably would've given it 9/10 despite the frequent massive framerate and lag issues. However, given the recent round of "balancing" updates (with many more likely), I feel generous giving it 6/10. Gearbox had 7 years to develop this game; I will be merciless.

The core issue is the state in which this and many other games are being released. It's becoming normalized to release games that are more or less incomplete, many appearing more like Betas or even Alphas sometimes. If I know this is the case up front that's ok (Warframe). If I know it's a game as service (Destiny, Anthem, etc) I'm also more tolerant. If it's a AAA single/co-op player game that's "gone gold"? Totally unacceptable.

It took people just days to figure out OP builds and weapons, so all must suffer now while Gearbox nerfs/buffs classes and weapons in the name of "balance". Gearbox will probably repeat this "balancing" cycle for a few months (at least) while they actually finish the game, on our time, with our dime that we already spent on a game that was sold as complete.

The updates also made the game LESS stable for me on PS4. Pre-update I had 1 blue screen in 2 weeks. Post-update I had 4 blue screens in 4 hours. And that's nothing compared to all the poor people who had their Bank was erased. But we still have those pesky framerate and lag issues. You know, the actual problems with the game.

Post release updates for a solo/co-op game like this should be bug/exploit fixes, buffs and DLC ONLY. Not "We just now realized that a class that works as advertised is OP and now we need to fix it." TOO LATE! You already released the game. Better luck next time! (Also, it's solo/co-op PvE. Balance is nice, but does it really matter? Why not just buff the weak stuff and make enemies tougher if necessary?)

Now Gearbox has a big mess on their hands because fans are righteously pissed that they took stuff away from them. Stuff that they paid for. This is inexcusable. And it's completely and unequivocally Gearbox's fault.

I will not pay Gearbox to be their Beta tester. In fact, it kinda makes me want to attempt to get a refund just on principle. Instead, I will NEVER pre-order any game ever again. And I'm setting B3 aside for 3-6 months (or however long it takes for this **** to subside) before I pick it up again.

Originally I wrote a review defending the game when it first came out. After playing it for much longer, I simply enough found the game unbearably tedious, boring and completely void of any really good humor or writing. Its just kinda a big shooty mess of uninspired shooty level design.

Nothing here stands out as fresh, in regards to the layout of this open world. Pandora and the other planets in Borderlands 1 -2 had much more character and personality as opposed to these newer maps. Its sort of annoying how void of entertainment this game is.

I understand that it is JUST a big dumb shooter, but GOD! is it dumb. Also the missions as fetch quests are probably some of weakest i've played Everything is so oddly placed and just really lakc any focus, Its kinda irritating.I've played much more calculated and entertaining fetch quests in previous Borderlands games.

I feel as if i've just kinda grown out of this genre of game. I need more narrative structure these days Humor that is subtle. I guess borderlands just isn't for me these days.

I think I wanted to believe that this game was SO MUCH MORE! I also wanted to justify my preorder. I was wrong.

If you want to play solo and in single player the game is alright. The campaign and guns etc is good but good luck reliably connecting to play with friends online. Which is the reason why I bought the game. aka, the reason I wasted my money.

As a huge fan of Borderlands and Borderlands 2 I expected more. No where near the performance of the remastered Borderlands 2 which runs smoothly at 60fps in full HD. I can't get more than a few hours into a laggy 30fps and below game with grainy and pixelated visuals. Assuming the ps5 is backwards compatible I'll try to play the game again when I update from my standard PS4.

But then the whole game gets boring, the story is not really on top and you start to no longer listening to most dialogues. Only a few side missions are so hilarious that you get back to the good feel this game could have been delivering but the main story is pretty lame.
After the first "main" boss (to avoid spoilers) the game goes down continuously. Shooting doesn't make fun anymore. Most times you simply aim for the head and wait till the enemy finally hits the ground. Bigger enemies are bulletsponges and this continues till the end. The following main bosses are just that... bulletsponges with a lot of boom bang effects but nothing really to worry about besides the one or two times an unfair combination of effects hits you all of a sudden. A lot of effects a lot of bullets but you end up holding the fire button till the boss finally hits the ground - which can take a long time.
Then there's Mayhem-Mode after the story ends... well, all what's changing is the sponginess... if you switch directly to the highest Mayhem-Mode level you end up pumping dozens if not hundreds of bullets into small enemies that you were able to lay down with a couple crits beforehand. Sure, your weapons at that time aren't perfectly fitting, but the first drops of new gear show you how much the firepower will increase and really it doesn't scale as much as needed to make the game "fun" at all. If enemies need a hundred bullets to get downed and you just move a little bit to the left and right or cn even stay still the whole time (as Beastmaster with your pet) then this doesn't make fun at all.
    Boring ...
I stopped playing all side missions and looking into each corner of the map to explore for additional tasks after beating the second main boss. Reason: I was already around level 35 and most quest rewards were lower level compared to random drops. In addition only a handful of side missions then still had the difficulty of "normal", most were stated as "trivial", so I avoided them or crashed through within a minute or two. Not fun.
So, I ended up to beat the campaign and played one or two hours more to then look at the title and asking myself if I really should play the same boring stuff again with another character or not... currently the tendency is way closer to "not" unfortunately.

Borderlands 3 has been getting a lot of unnecessary hate on it. Randy Pitchford, Gearbox, and 2K do deserve the hate and the negative PR towards them. Moreso Randy and 2K.

But the game itself is good. It's great even. On one condition. IF you liked the other borderlands games. This is more like Borderlands 2.5. It doesn't change much. But what it does change are great quality of life improvements. You can slide, vault, climb, buy all missing ammo with one button, and more.

And the guns are MUCH better. The variety of the guns are amazing. It use to be that guns wouldn't get interesting or fun till level 20ish. Now even white rarity and green rarity guns at level 2 are fun to use and interesting to play with. The changes to the gun manufacturers is the biggest change in my opinion. Vladof has grenade launchers, Torque has sticky grenades that explode on reload, Dahl has two fire modes (burst, single, full auto), Jacobs bullets ricochet, I could go on. This extra change makes each gun unique and fun. If borderlands was just a tad too boring to you then the guns might do it for you now. The gun gameplay is topnotch. Each gun feels impactful and fun. In the thousands of guns I've looted I've never seen a bland boring unfun gun yet. This is the strongest point of the game. Which is good because you're doing A LOT of shooting.

The classes are distinct enough and fun enough to seperate it from the last 3 games. With my favorite, Zane, being a standout for me. But I'm sure everyone has their standout. The 3 different class moves per character vs the one per from later games is an appreciated change. But some do feel a bit copy paste *glares at the new Siren*. And lastly the endgame is finally fun. At least for me. I'm a big fan of Diablos endgame so if you've played that game and you enjoyed it. Then you're in for a treat. I just got into the endgame so I can't tell you how much fun it'll be in a week or two. But right now it fits perfectly. But NO MORE REDOING THE STORY 50 TIMES!!!!! HUZZAH!!! Sure if you want to do True or ultimate or super duper vault hunter mode (one of those isn't a real mode) than you do need to do the story again. But at least you don't need to do it 5 or 6 times to get to max level. At the LEAST if you want to do the harder modes. You only need to do the story twice. Which, personally, I ABSOLUTELY appreciate.

Now for the bad. The story isn't great. Compaired to Handsome Jack, the Twins aren't the best. They come off as bad obnoxious rather than the good obnoxious that Jack was famous for. You don't want to kill em because they are the bad guys. You just want them to SHUT UP. And the story is just a tad too lazy to me. Just bland. Not bad but not creative the previous games were known for. But that's not what this game is famous for. It's for it's gameplay loop. Get a quest, shoot a punny named boss, get loot, repeat. And (depending on who you are) this can be good for you or bad. Because it is STILL the same gameplay loop. If you enjoyed it than this game is good to pick up. Not to say it was ever bad. If it ain't broke don't fix it right? But if you were ever turned off by it's gameplay it might not win you over this time. Again unless the guns do it for you now. And the jokes seem outdated? I don't know I can't put my finger on it. At best they are chuckle worthy and at worse it's a bit cringeworthy. I don't know if the jokes stayed the same and I grew out of the LAWL RANDOM humor or they just aren't as funny as they use to be. Sure there are good ones but they don't make me laugh out loud as they use to. And Gearbox can we PLEASE put more vending machines everywhere else BESIDES the entrance to the zone!? I can't tell you how many times I've run out of ammo, had a full inventory, or a combo of both. Sure it's part of the game but I've never had this problem before in the previous games. Enemies seem a bit more spongier and they all seem loot pinatas. Which the later isn't a bad thing but when each pack is 20ish psychos you build up a full inventory SUPER quick. And theres not enough "ammo boxes" to help you out for the next pack.

For the TL;DR or closing remarks. Borderlands 3 is a continuation of Borderlands 2(presequal?) Which isn't bad. It does come up short with it's story and humor. But if you are looking for a dumb mindless shooter with loot. This is the BEST one yet. Does it reinvigorate the genre? Does it reinvint the wheel? Does it blow the last 3 games so much out of the water that it makes them obsolete? Sadly no. But if you had fun the last few games then you should definitely pick this one up.

Anwrong way to go about it

I liked the game. It was a solid 7 to 8/10 worse than Borderlands 2 but very cringe. However, the latest DLC is truly bad. The only thing for the Director's Cut are the weapons, which are somewhat interesting and/but very strong (e.g. Plasma Coil), but the idea is utter blandness (2/10). This costs the same as story DLC's? There is no way to rate the DLC so my overall score for the game decreases.

The bad guys were kind of like Handsome Jack with small changes. Is the funny psychopath really the only option to play the bad guy?

It was pretty much like playing a BL2 DLC and since there have been so many of those already, the BL2 style jokes and NPCs such as Claptrap and Tiny Tina started to annoy me pretty fast. Shooting bandits and the beasts of the desert should have been replaced with something new. The player classes felt like slightly altered versions of BL2 classes which made even the first play through pretty uninteresting. I chose Fl4k for my first play through and started with Maze after that, but there really isn't anything new to experience with different characters so there's not much point for NG+.

It was not all bad though. The gameplay is as good as in BL2, which is very good, but then again, I could always play BL2 if BL3 has nothing else to offer. The music in BL3 was very enjoyable as it almost always is with Jesper Kyd and there were many cool, small details here and there. I just wish they had created something new around the details.

The 4 characters are really different and now you have 3 action skills to chose for each of them with available upgrades to equip (Zane can use even 2 action skills at once for the price of being unable to use grenades). Also each available tree gives a lot of variation for the characters. They added weapons with 2 switchable modes. This is awesome as you can switch elemental effects, shoot a tracker that made bullets auto target the attached enemy for a short time or have two weapons in one (Assault rifle to shotgun) to name just a few. This is atop all stuff you already had in previous gamed like the special manufacturer abilities. They also improved the loot drops. It is neither too rewarding or unrewarding and with all these abilities I like to test some set ups during the game. There are some drawbacks. Maliwan weapons are awful now (Were my favorites before). You have to charge them before they fire. I got used to it later on but avoided them as much as I could. Ice is now not damage over time but freezes enemies for triple melee damage it I remember correctly. However it generally surpasses Borderlands 2 in this regard and I consider it to be the best loot shooter game-play-wise. Lets go to the story. It was a mayor complaint by many that it is weak. First I disagreed but after the halfway of the game boredom became a problem. It started on Eden 6 and later Pandora but became really an annoyance on the next place I wont spoil which visiting should be the highlight of the franchise. There was a better set up for a great story in the (weaker) Presequel and I don't know why they used this with the additional set ups from Tales of Borderlands. It has not enough highlights and drags on too much. Then there are the villains. It is hard to be the follow up for Handsome Jack who is one of the best villains in videogames. The Calypso twins are sadly more the bad kind of annoying. Don't get me wrong as they have their moments that work really well. It is the choice to made them evil, sociopathic and ruthless Space-YouTubers that does not work for me and most fans. The side-quest are better and memorable. I liked the toilet prisoner, Loreleis missions, the uplifting and the ones by Vaughn / Tannis. They used great dark humor and you find many parodies in the game (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones etc.). The dark humor is also present in the main missions but not used well enough (Katagawa jr and Rhys for example work great). There is also the mayor complain about the character Ava. The annoyance is part of the set up for her character and I say it is a trope / stereotype. However there are is 1 part were I hated her and one part of the game were I say WTF? First is what happen to Maya and I fully blame her here (I be vague here because of huge spoilers). Secondly at the end she gets a position that baffles everyone. Why? She did nothing to earn it in the game and have not the experience and skills outside her newly acquired special ability. She is not even number 5 in line as there were Ellie, Tannis, Mordecai, the 4 new Vault Hunters and others better suited just as example. Without this I liked her character and have empathy for her. If handled better she could become a fan favorite and I blame the script / writing. The other characters are handle good enough for me but some are missing without explanation or just appearing in Echos (Maybe added in later DLC?). I also like the additional stuff you can find by exploring like the hunts, radio stations and Echos from Typhon DeLeon (Find all 3 on each map and maybe you get something good;-). Lets go to the technical stuff: There are some bugs like a quest marker not appearing (toilet side-quest) or an Echo from Typhon the Leon not counted as activated / found. The graphics look really good and I had nothing to complain. Soundtrack is the same. I like the art-style of the franchise and think it is a staple. Overall this is a good game but also disappointing. Great gameplay and multiplayer but the story and characters are weaker and many say it is the weakest of the franchise in this regard. I think I agree mostly with this statement. Expand

It doesn't seem to try to compete with anyone, or show that the developers have made progress since the last game.

And that would normally be fine. We see games like that being released every year in form of EA's sports games and the Call of Duty franchise before they added Sledgehammer to their list of developers and turned it into a 3-year development cycle. However, Borderlands was developed over a period of ridiculous 7 years, and not a single year. The blatant lack of progress is absolutely amazing, but for the wrong reasons. I don't know how they managed to add so incredibly little in such a vast amount of time. That's about the average time of a console's life cycle, before the next generation of consoles roll out. It's about the same amount of time it took Rockstar to turn the original Red Dead Redemption into a vastly different, upgraded and far more expansive game in Red Dead Redemption 2. It's baffling what little work they've done in those 7 years. These inflated, "professional critics reviews" don't make any sense when you take all of this into account. I would have expected a game with such an underwhelming degree of progress over its predecessor to have been made in 2-3 years.

If you think the game is great, then that's fine, good for you. However, Borderlands 3 is, objectively speaking, an incredibly underdeveloped game that belongs far more fittingly in the PS3 era. And that's despite its generous 7 years in development. If you liked Borderlands 2 and you're not in a hurry to get this one, I recommend waiting until they put it on sale, because they're basically charging the price of a full game for a last-gen game that they likely didn't put much effort into producing.

The reason I'm really pissed is another one though. I worked a **** underpaid job all year to have six weeks vacation, two of those dedicated to your "work".
After those two weeks I was deep into the endgame when I realised that Zane, the character I picked, IS THE MOST USELESS BUM IN VIDEOGAME HISTORY. There is no endgame build no matter how much you respec and puzzle, there is no killer combination, there is nothing that makes sense about this character.
I know that Gearbox isn't responsible for my rotten luck but I still hate them for botching a fourth of their entire roster.
    Thanks a lot Randy.

The game is good whether Solo or Co-op. PS5 version is next level performance wise. Story and dialogue skew young, it never tries to be Shakespeare. Post launch support is amazing.

Cool game! Played non-stop for 5 days (5-6 hrs per day). No glitches. Storyline is OK, as this is my first Borderland, and there are tons of hints related to previous games.

It's Borderlands, the gameplay is addicting and fun. Unfortunely that's all the praise I can give Borderlands 3. The first two Borderlands were amazing all the way around, this time it's gameplay and that's it. Don't expect anything good from Borderlands 3 in terms of story, characters and writing, it's all terrible. Expected a lot more and better from Borderlands.

Decent game but pretty easy most of the time - lots to do. Though nowhere near as funny as a Borderlands game should be instead going with the forced agenda. I play games to enjoy and take a break from reality so when forced agenda is rammed down my throat I am not particularly content with that.
Borderlands is now dead to me

8 years since borderlands 2 (we don't talk about the pre sequel) 8 years since we realized Borderlands is going intergalactic. The game is massive and it's quite the undertaking to explore and do everything.
    Pros
    - Big very very big game
    - Truly different ways to play the exact same characters which is nice
    - More vehicles and cool ways to get them upgraded
    - Cast is great
    - Planets are pretty
    - 4 dlcs that will expand an already big game
    - Events SEASONAL EVENTS

    Cons
    - Somewhat laggy
    - Somewhat glitchy (nothing game breaking)

This game is exactly what i expected but they took the guns to a whole 'nother level. The game looks great especially on a 4k tv and on a ps pro.

Dropping it down to a 8/10 just because the co-op and the split screen is not working very well but i have faith that this will be fixed in a patch or update.

In short: the games score is somewhere between the pre sequel and BL2. At the beginning i thought the game is pretty good however it got boring really quickly. I dont really like any of the 4 characters (the siren is ok though) and the overly long story which youd need to play over and over again which as far as i remember takes me at least 20 hours everytime is just far too much. It would be reasonably if the campaign was fun but it just isnt. The villains are incredibly cringy and the campaign feels like its made for 13 year olds. The most important part of the game are of course the weapons. Instead of having to farm for a specific weapon you now have to farm for specific augmentations on those weapons. There is no reward feeling at all because a perfect augment just doesnt create the feeling of finally getting the weapon itself. Lets not forget that even with one of the latest patches the designated lootpools dont work properly and youre mostly getting tons of other legendaries before the one that has an increased chance to drop. The bosses are not badass either. The Npc Vaughn is one of the most braindead characters ive ever seen in a game and i do not understand why he has to be in this game. Now the latest dlc had to make one of the main characters gay, because why not, all the gays in the world were screaming for hammerlock to be gay so this decision was totally understandable. Trying to get social acceptance just backfired really really quickly. With the vanilla game there wasnt even a raidboss meaning after the story the was nothing to do, NOTHING. I still think the game technically has room for improvement but since all of the publishers nowadays are preferring to release bad games and refuse to earn big money, i dont see major improvements coming. Btw i never thought that amongst individual ratings the score is lower than 6 with more than 1000 reviews, if that doesnt tell em i dont know what does... Expand

Great gameplay, terrible storyline, awful humour.

Expect varied and rewarding gameplay on a range of different maps. But the storyline has no focus, is very forgettable (for example, a pathetically easy final boss), and attempts at humour which completely FAIL, especially compared to the amazing BL2. Humour is mostly very "Americanised", i.e. over-the-top 'THIS IS A JOKE'

Humour is mostly very "Americanised", i.e. over-the-top 'THIS IS A JOKE' in-your-face lines. One example is a "joke" about a character's moustache is repeated at least 10 times in the main storyline alone, making the game seem desperate for a laugh.

The "villains" of this game are forgettable and boring compared to the amazing Handsome Jack of BL2. There are also currently no endgame raid bosses, just repetitive arena challenges that feel like a chore to complete, even in co-op.

All of this is on top of the massive amount of lag spikes / glitches / bugged PSN Trophies, which many others have discussed.

Only pick this up if you're interested in the gameplay, otherwise expect to be disappointed.

After 7 years without a proper sequel in the mainline series of games, two spin-offs and a whole lot of drama with Gearbox Studios, the 3rd installment in the mainline Borderlands games is here. Following in the footsteps of the previous two entries, this game tries to feel familiar while also trying to change up its formula just enough to make a game that feels right at home on current-gen consoles. Succeeding in some areas and fail in others.

The story picks up right where Borderlands 2 left off, the main cast of characters finds a map that leads to multiple vaults hidden throughout the galaxy. The map gets misplaced between the events of Borderlands 2 and 3 and ends up the hands of the Calypso Twins, the main antagonists of the game and the leaders of the cult group, Children of the Vault. Throughout the adventure you play as a new group of vault hunters, trying to take down the cult and stop the twins from getting to the vaults. The Borderlands stories have always had an extensive amount of lore behind them. This story is no different but there is one key element missing, comedy. Everything from the main characters to the villains in the main story are not that funny. Some of the best moment of writing come from the side missions, which had me laughing out loud at some points. The most disappointing part of all this is the Calypso Twins, who can’t hold a candle compared to the previous villain, Handsome Jack. Most of their humor consisting of them being “YouTube” stars. Most new character introduced in this new installment are pretty forgettable in compared to the mainstays of the series. Story-wise, this continuation of events that happened in this game are pretty disappointing to say the least, especially after a lackluster ending that sets up one of the new forgettable characters for a bigger role in the future and completely sidelining many characters that longtime fans would rather see.

As far as gameplay goes, it’s almost identical to Borderlands 2 and that’s not a bad thing. The first person shooting mechanics are as satisfying as ever. The 4 new vault hunters help add some more variety in the gameplay with unique abilities like summoning a pet or using a mech in battle. Skill trees are the most varied they have ever been in the series, with certain equipable abilities that you can unlock by getting further in the tree. A.I. enemies are pretty smart, hiding behind cover and using any maneuvers they can to kill you, making for a game that can be quite punishing in a good kind of way. This punishment does not go unrewarded as the game is throwing you new weapons left and right, keeping player incentivized to continue playing long after the credits roll. Gameplay-wise, this is the best in the series. Borderlands fans and newcomers alike will have hundreds of hours of fun to find here with more coming on the way thanks to free and paid expansions.

On the technical side of things, this game can be a buggy mess at times. Framerates coming down to a crawl when opening menus, players and A.I. getting stuck in walls or flying across the map. Very few are game-breaking but most will be annoying like restarting a mission because you’re not able to click the “talk” button to a character. These issues are still present 3 weeks after the launch of the title. Besides that, graphics and presentation look nice and detailed especially for its cell-shaded look. The soundtrack is pretty incredible, one of the highlights from the whole series. Technical problems bring this title down a bit but nothing that outright ruins the game.

Borderlands 3 can a fun and enjoyable time for fans of the series if they're looking for fun gameplay and don’t really care about story or lore. Despite a lackluster story and technical problems, there is still fun to be had. If you are new to the series, I would start elsewhere. Borderlands 2 might be a better starting point due to its great story and funnier moments. Borderlands 3 does not feel like a game 7 years in the making but it just passable enough to be a proper installment in the series.

    Pros:
    +Tight Gameplay
    +Gameplay Variety
    +Smart A.I. and Difficulty
    + Great Soundtrack

    Cons:
    -Lackluster Story and Villain’s
    -Technical Problems

Huge Borderlands 2 fan, but this new installment just isn't doing it for me. The only only things I can really praise at the moment is the graphics and side quest writing (it's hilarious).

    - The main story is pretty 'meh' - Not enough levels compared to BL2 - No Raid bosses - Universal loot drops, instead of enemy specific - Endgame is boring - Menus freeze up in online multiplayer

That's just my experience with the game so far. I've beaten the campaign and solo'd a lot of stuff on Mayhem 3. FL4K literally breaks the game and I chose him as my character without even knowing it. Once I leveled up his critical tree, everything got steam rolled. I then looked online and a lot of people are confirming the same thing.

This game is a lot of fun, but it's lacking something new to make it more interesting than Borderlands 2. It's basically Borderlands 2.5, but it's not a bad thing, just not something great. The story is a bit tedious at times, and boss fights can be dull. The dark-humour, memorable characters, and excellent loot system is what kept me engaged though.

Factor in the graphical glitches, rampant texture pop-in and generally asthmatic performance levels, even when running on a PS4 Pro with settings optimised to favour smooth running, and there really is no end of reasons not to love Borderlands 3 (and don’t even think about Googling developers Gearbox Games’ litany of employee relations history)...And yet... love it, I do. Guilty as charged.
