I can't find any words to describe how great that game is. Good old borderlands. I still can't stop playing it. But reason I can't get 10, is technical issues. Borderlands at its finest. The story, the combat, the bosses ( oh how i love the boss fights) I literally cannot stop playing. The game is being review bombed for couch co-op issues do not listen to them it's an issue that isn't my issue, but I'm sure if this problem exists gearbox will resolve it quickly.

I don't understand all the hate for this game. It plays smooth, I'm about 10 - 12 hours in and I feel like I'm just getting started. The guns and gear feel great, the new skill tree system is a needed improvement on the past 2 games in the franchise. The story is fine. All in all it's more borderlands for people who enjoy borderlands.

First of all let me start by saying I have only played the game single player and put about 10 hours in so far. For me the game to this point has met my expectations. The world seems large and interesting and the characters have that same zany Borderlands vibe to them. The largest improvement I’ve noticed so far is in the gunplay. Guns seem more interesting and have an overall better feel to them. If Borderlands wasn’t something you were interested in before this game isn’t going to do anything differently to change your mind. If you are like me and have enjoyed all the previous games, I’d definitely recommend giving Borderlands 3 a shot. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After reaching level 14, I can confirm this game is pretty decent. I have ran across a few bugs while playing through. Nothing that exploits the game, but it left me with confusion on what was going on.

Guns moving across the ground as if an AI was holding it and the sticky bomb guns having no legs to walk on yet behaves normally, those types of bugs. The game is far from being unpolished but it feels dusty.

Gameplay is enjoyable, the mixing of abilities feature doesn’t feel like it belongs in a borderlands game. Matter a fact, it hinders you more than improves you for mixing abilities.

I’d give it a try, if you want to, but I would wait for a sale to buy it.

Skip the good ones. This game is fundamentally broken and has an insane amount of bugs, the quantity of which, is unacceptable for a 'Triple-A' release. The bugs include (and are not limited to) falling through the map, launching skyward in vehicles when colliding with objects, placeholder text appearing on screen, vendors not telling you the price of a full ammo restock, intense frame-rate drops when opening anything that could be classified as a menu, repeating ECHO-Tapes in split screen mode, and worst of all, the hud size is so small that only an ant could read it without eye-strain. All of these bugs were observed during my time playing the game, and I have not included any bugs that I myself, did not encounter, this is to bring further credibility to this review. Just note that the listed bugs are likely the tip of the iceberg.
If you can look past the bugs and performance issues, its a solid game and has been fun to play when we actively try to ignore these issues. The loot drops are more satisfying, and areas are filled with collectibles and hidden locations that make exploring fun. The classes are very enjoyable as well, and all work extremely well in conjunction with one another, this in turn, makes the fast paced combat addicting and exciting for the whole party. The storyline is very disappointing, at last in terms of how my friends and I have gotten, as there isn't much context given as to exactly what we're doing or what our ultimate goal is. This is in stark contrast to the previous entries that made such goals apparent at the start of the game. Example: BL1 was to find and open the vault, BL2 was to kill Handsome Jack, BL3 is....a mess. This is subject to change late-game, but for now, I am personally unimpressed.
In conclusion, I would recommend this game to potential buyers, but not until each major issue is fixed, and the support for vertical split screen is added. The game is terrible in its current state, and despite the impressive gameplay, its borderline unplayable on the Playstation 4 at the time of this review.

Made account just to trash this game. Local co-op mode is simply not playable currently. Game is clunky, laggy, freezes up if someone opens a menu, and split screen is horizontal only, making everything ultra tiny and impossible to read. We gave up after 30 minutes.

I did not play 1 or 2 but this is a wonderful video game. It’s pure fun, and it knows what it is and what it isn’t. It’s not going to steal my life like destiny, but it may well steal a month or so and is going to leave me with some great memories. This is the only game out there that has the tight controls of a major title like COD, or battlefield etc, but also has the fun factor, pace, and mind numbing visuals of an arcade shooter. I guess you could say it plays like destiny meets doom and looks like destiny meets Fortnite, but really it’s just the same

I don't know what the problems could be (it could be that I got a physical copy in a digital age, but I have no concrete reason.) As for the game itself? Everything I want from a sequel: keep what was good, fix what wasn't, and expand on it all. A deeper lore, major quality of life improvements, and the same Borderlands charm you loved from the past games. The game isn't perfect, I did have a glitch moment that launched me into the sky and out of the map, resulting in a swift death. There's also a small bit of lag in the menus, presumably from loading the character model, but I expect these will be patched out relatively soon. Other than that, I have had no problems and absolutely no regrets about getting this game. It only gets a 10 instead of a 9 to help bump it up from the bombers and boycotters. Expand

In a self proclaimed shoot and loot game, the ability to see what you're shooting and read what loot you've got are kind of essentially. While I'm sure the game runs well enough in single player mode, since, for me Borderlands 3 has always been about co-operative play I cannot justify rating this game even a 1 because it is totally unplayable. £90 down the drain unless a vertical split screen is added. Now, I don't even PLAY couch co op but a lot of people do and it's universally called out for being practically unplayable. The fact that someone at gearbox didn't point out that most TVs are rectangularly shaped and maybe a horizontal split screen is a dumb idea is kind of mind blowing. How they didn't play test it is beyond me and they really botched the launch of this game for a lot of people. That sucks and I feel bad for all the people who were let down. They aren't salty, they are rightfully mad for the bad co op and frame rate drops.

Now, for me, I love the game. It's amazing. There ARE minor frame rate drops when I open the menu and and a drop or two in battle after 6 hours of gameplay but nothing that can't be fixed. Where it matters the game is fantastic. They improved and polished the shooting and looting mechanics to a ridiculous level, which is impressive giving that this area was already so amazing in BL2.

The gun play, sliding and mantling all feel stellar as well and the graphics are just fantastic. I play on performance mode because there is little difference to the eye from HD to 4k. I really am loving this game beyond what I had hoped.

Having said that Gearbox needs to fix the issues STAT because they may have already ruined this launch for many people especially after the PR nightmare they had all the way up to the lead up release

    Now with my review :
The game uses a updated version of the Unreal engine and the game looks gorgeous. The graphical fidelity is at its best with good attention to detail.
The game looks modern but still has that classic borderlands flavour that we all love.
The sound design is great. Explosions have a nice deep bass and the character voices sound crisp and Cristal clear, I definitely would recommend to play the game with good headphones.
Most of the characters from the old games are back with the exceptions of a few new ones and the new villains. If you have not played the first 3 games don’t worry , you won’t have any problem enjoying the story. Talking about the story line , it is not as good as Borderlands 2 but it’s better than Borderlands 1 . The Humor is still the same , claptrap is still an arrogant robot , and no one in this Universe takes anything seriously, which is a good thing. Player moovement is greatly improved, it feels faster , more responsive and fluid compared to older titles. The Gunplay has seen some improvement as well .
The In game menu UI is a little confusing but it’s not hard to get used to .
The new guns are great , every single one feels different and suites / encourages a different playstyle. The enemy’s are good, not the best AI but still challenging the more you progress. The bosses have some interesting mechanics and are engaging.
Performance wise, well it’s a 2019 AAA game . I would not say it’s very demanding but on the PC side a GTX 750ti won’t handle it with more than 35 frames per second . On the console side a PS4 Pro or a XBOXONE X is recommended .
    My laptop has a i7 8750h 6 Core processor paired with 16 GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 Ram running in dual channel ( 2x8 ) and a GTX 1060 6GB.
The game runs on 1080p averaging 80 FPS on medium settings. On High with fog set to off solid 60 Frames per second. My advice would be to leave the game in DX11, as DX12 is still messy for the time being. The game is a blast to play and can be played solo without a problem even tho at its core it’s meant to be played in co-op. Still the best looter shooter on the market.
The Epic games store lacks a lot of essential features but it launches the game without a problem so at least that’s good. If you are a fan of the franchise you will love the Game as it feels like Borderlands 2 , but more modern with a lot of quality of life improvements.
I would say get it and play it . Trailers and let‘s plays don’t do this game justice. I apologise for any type mistakes, English is not my first language :)

Like many other players, my wife and I purchased this game excited to jump back into the world of Borderlands via couch co-op, anxious to see how they may have expanded/improved on what was already a great local cooperative gameplay experience. After all, their "so happy together" trailer seems to elude that to a strongly developed multiplayer experience. Found out quickly that the developers made the astonishing choice to only include horizontal co-op, which is near unplayable on a widescreen tv. The Borderlands franchise has stood apart from many games being one of the few that really does couch co-op very well. We won't be playing this until we hear more about whether the developers plan to restore this critical element. Big let down on this $100 pre-order. The excitement we had for jumping into the story together right at launch has been effectively nullified.
The game itself is very enjoyable from the little that we've played, separately... I would have otherwise given this game an excellent review if this core element from the other games had been included, but as it is in contrast to the other games, BL3 is incomplete.

To add insult to injury, I can't read anything on the screen unless I am a foot from the screen, I can barely see what's going on no matter what I do with the FOV and brightness settings, there is an unacceptable amount of input lag when aiming, and when someone goes into the menu, the lag/framerate drop makes it so the other person can't even play. I really want to love this game, and when I’ve actually been able to play it I love it, but as of right now it’s...disappointing and unplayable. The redaction of the vertical split screen option means that on the long rectangular TVs it is almost impossible to read any of the text on the horizontal split screen. As the player on top, I can’t even look at what the top stats are for guns on the floor or in loot boxes! Starting off I'm a huge Borderlands franchise fan. I want to love everything about this game and I want it to be amazing.

That being said if you are contemplating this for couch co-op use then DO NOT BUY for the moment at the very least. The game is essentially unplayable in local co-op mode. There are massive framerate drops on a non PS4 Pro anytime a menu is opened for the other

That being said if you are contemplating this for couch co-op use then DO NOT BUY for the moment at the very least. The game is essentially unplayable in local co-op mode. There are massive framerate drops on a non PS4 Pro anytime a menu is opened for the other player. A smaller issue is if a tutorial for a menu item opens the obscured background actually bleeds into darkening half the other player's entire view. This won't be a potential problem for long in the game from a progress perspective but it's problematic. Another detractor is that the splitscreen is only horizontal and the UI scaling for text is absolutely terrible. Expect to squint and quickly experience headaches unless maybe you have a 100+ inch display. The instanced loot is really the only positive I can speak to for a co-op experience but trying to review your loot given the UI scaling you're going to need to be less than 3 feet from your display to read anything if playing local co-op.

In terms of single player or network co-op the experience is decent and I don't have any complaints in my gameplay thus far. For this the UI scaling is fine and text is legible. There are FOV sliders to customize your view to your preference which is good. Honestly I don't really see the reason in complaints that BL3 isn't some massive re-invention of the franchise. It's perfectly fine to me that it's essentially more borderlands. That's what I hoped for and why I bought it.

I'm also disappointed with the load times I've been seeing considering I've upgraded my PS4 with a large SSD so if you're still running the drive your system came with be aware load times will be even worse. Maybe a PS4 Pro with an SSD ekes out sufficient performance improvement but expect to be waiting several minutes transitioning between map zones.

If this was a single player or network only multiplayer title, I'd probably give the game an 8 or 9 rating but that assumes couch co-op was never something the franchise supported. The fact the poorer received pre-sequel handled local co-op better than another instance in the main franchise line is a great disappointment to me.

Giving it a 10 because of the imbeciles review bombing, the game is fine, needs some patches but it's great.

I would love to give this game a higher score, as I absolutely fell in love (and am STILL in love) with the previous BL games. My fiancée and I were super stoked to play this game after finishing the previous 4 together. We purchased the highest tier edition, the Diamond Loot Chest edition, with the utmost expectations for a game of this calibre. My fiancée and I were super stoked to play this game after finishing the previous 4 together. We purchased the highest tier edition, the Diamond Loot Chest edition, with the utmost expectations for a game of this calibre. After finally launching BL3, the first thing I notice is how absolutely gorgeous it is. The lines are crisp and clean, the colours are vibrant, and the motion is smooth. The story is fun, the characters are just as great as they've ever been, and it honestly FEELS like a Borderlands game. It really is an amazing game.

That being said, I've given it a 4/10 rating due to its almost unplayable state right now. When my fiancée and I started it, we expected to be able to play in vertical splitscreen, the way we had in the previous games, but there is no option to change from the starting horizontal orientation. Not only does that stretch and squash the visuals, it makes the already small HUD text impossible to read, making action prompts and mission descriptions difficult to make out.

There is an option to change the subtitle size, why is there no option to change the HUD text size? Why is there no vertical splitscreen option, as every other BL game has included? Please, fix this. Many people have said the same things with much less or much more words. If this is fixed, with text size customisable and splitscreen vertical, this game will get a solid 10/10 from me, as it's an incredible game. Being unable to read anything is enough for me to not want to continue playing until this is fixed.

The review bombing of this game is just insane. It's obvious 80% of the reviews are people who are sour over Epic exclusivity and Randy Pitchford. I understand the complaints against both of those, but the review should be on the merits of the game and nothing else!

The game is phenomenal. Gunplay is better than ever and extremely refreshing with new abilities, dual modes and new weapon manufacturers. I'm playing as FL4k and although it's a bit slow to start (as far as his abilities) I'm really enjoying it now.

The villains don't hold a candle to Jack. He was probably one of if not the best villain of any game I've played. They are formidable but much of their dialogue is just annoying. Writing is a bit lacking compared to BL2 but it's definitely had its moments and isn't bad by any means.

To those crying over microtransactions. M. BORDERLANDS HAS ALWAYS HAD THAT YA DUMMIES! It's nothing "pay to win" and It's purely cosmetic so I don't understand the issue. TLDR: if you enjoyed BL1 or BL2 you will absolutely love this and must buy. If you were unsure of those games or didn't enjoy them it won't convert you.

Gearbox should be ashamed of themselves for releasing the game in this state. It's ugly to look at and the performance is appalling. I haven't played a game that performs this bad since the free weekend trial of Fallout 76. I guess we see now why they limited review copies. It doesn't help that I have been playing the beautiful 4k remasters of BL1 and BL2 leading up to this release. GoingGearbox should be ashamed of themselves for releasing the game in this state. For me the worst Borderlands game so far. Graphically and gameplay wise nice, but story and characters so far are really boring. Fans can have fun with it, but it seem that Gearbox wanted to make a new Handsome Jack like villain(s) and completely missed it. They are just some boring influencer kiddies on Pandora, not a great, deep and funny character as Jack. Normally i would give it 5/10For me the worst Borderlands game so far. If you want Borderlands with updated graphics, a few new bells and whistles, and a new story featuring familiar faces, then get this game.

Very good game. Was impressed with how much it has improved since BL2. Played BL2 for last 2 weeks so I notice the differences of the 2 games. Play on a PS4 Pro and settings on performance and have had no troubles so far, that's not to say that there could be no problems I am just saying I have experienced no problems. Will continue to play this game till and after the next Cod releases.Very good game. Was impressed with how much it has improved since BL2. I've had an absolute blast so far playing this game with friends. For me, the laggyness is apparent when you are in the maps or the menus. It is quite laggy but it is not game breaking for me. The gun play is incredibly fluid. I am sure that the menus issue can be patched.

More guns, more planets, more skills, more… more. If you liked the previous ones, this gives you plenty of the same to enjoy. Borderlands 3 is the very definition of the bigger and better sequel. [Issue#168, p.76]

Borderlands 3 is a by-the-book sequel that takes no risks. Veteran Borderlands players will embrace it, but others will find that it has not evolved enough.

Factor in the graphical glitches, rampant texture pop-in and generally asthmatic performance levels, even when running on a PS4 Pro with settings optimised to favour smooth running, and there really is no end of reasons not to love Borderlands 3 (and don’t even think about Googling developers Gearbox Games’ litany of employee relations history)...And yet... love it, I do. Guilty as charged.
