It’s not even the glitches that are bad, it just doesn’t have the same feel as previous installments. The characters are fine but the story is hard to follow. Forget about “multiplayer”, its do one mission while 3 other fools are running around doing their own thing. The fact that this series has turned into a meaningless cash cow is evident everywhere. Even though I encountered some minor frame rate drops and only one gamebreaking bug where I was forced to restart the whole application, I must say I am impressed with everything else. The story is awesome, despite the fact that the modern day is almost ignored and it has a lot more to do with assassins, comparing it to black flag. The graphics were absolutely GORGEOUS, the best looking AC game so far. The only drawback, which justifies an 8/10 score is its length. Despite the story being cool, it was too short. I mean it's like 12 sequences with 2-3 memories each. After that you had literally a TON of side quests that got repetitive. They could have worked a little more on that. Overall a great experience but a little buggy. Try harder next time Ubi Expand

With Unity, you will be able to enjoy a wonderful rendition of Paris. My wife and I spend the honeymoon there and I was quite excited to see Cluny, Saint Etienne, Saint Eustache du Mont and many others in game. This was made possible due to some noticeably upgraded graphics compared to Black Flag, which was good looking itself. So, a big plus here, because we can stop pretending that graphics don’t matter and admit it is so. Else, we wouldn’t sink thousands of euros in the latest ATI’s and NVidia products. So let’s be honest here and appreciate Unity for what is has to offer in this aspect.
The story taking place in such a beautifully rendered environment is not top notch, but is not bad either. Short and with a twist. I enjoyed it, but I was left wanting for more.
As I said, the story is short, but the game has lots to offer in terms of side missions, some of them quite “nouveau” like the CSI investigation missions. There is plenty to do in the game if you are an avid achiever and like 100% game completion.
The stealth was a bit changed, with the introduction of a line of sight mechanic. You can now sneak past guards noses, if you are crouching behind a table or anything to break their LOS, giving you more freedom to finish a mission stealthily.
    The minus:
What made the AC franchise really popular was its parkour element. It is with sadness that I announce that after AC, AC2, ACB, ACR, AC3 and ACBF the long and trialed parkour system was overhauled. To the worst. For the sake of innovation. Now, the parkour was reduced to “press a button and …parkour”.
Such a thing in itself it is not a bad thing, but remember Black Flag, only before Unity, when you were high speeding on the rooftops of Havana and decided to change direction midcourse and assassinate a target of opportunity below you? It was the pinnacle of the previous five games being refined year by year (almost) to get you the bet freedom of movement/action possible. Forget it now. Your character will continue its path, oblivious to your commands to stop, jump and kill. The result of such a command would now randomly be:
    - Keep running on a predefined path.
    - Stop.
    - Stop and immediately go some random direction regardless of the direction you commanded.
    - Run to the nearest ledge and get stuck on it, in plain sight, and be noted by your target.
    - Jump to assassinate, but fell short of your target and enter combat.
    - Jump and assassinate an ally, who has just engaged your intended target.
In terms of combat, all previous AC has a similar combat system: enter combat, wait to be attacked, perform a counter attack and insta-kill your target (a bit less so in ACBF), then rinse and repeat. This has to be change to something better, to feel combat like and more engaging. The good news is that it has changed in Unity. That is all the good news. The combat was changed to this succession of events:
    - Enter combat.
    - Attack you target.
    - See your target attacking you back.
    - Press the button to parry (same as before but…different. I bet you read that in James Franco’s voice).
    - Even though you parried at the exact time as dutifully instructed by creative director Alex Amancio in his in game linked tutorials, fail to parry and get hit badly, even by the weakest adversaries.
    - Shake your head in disbelief and try to parry again, this time with more care.
    - Realize it is not your timing that fails to parry, that it is the game that doesn’t do it. Despite you doing the exact same thing each time, sometime the game acts, sometimes it doesn’t. Be lucky.
    - Keep trying to parry or dodge. Yes, dodge is an option now, but it is just as well implemented as parry. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
    - Watch your camera setting itself at an impossible angle and admire the wall that just popped in front of you, and see nothing of the combat around you.
    - As the camera resets itself on a better angle, watch your character getting shot before you could dodge (provided dodge would have worked) because you couldn’t see the enemy targeting you.
    - Get lucky and see the enemy targeting you, rush towards it, try to dodge his bullet, only to see your character climbing a nearby fence/barrel/junk pile and get stuck on it, no matter what gods or devils you invoke to get him down.
Finally, the game also features a coop multiplayer feature. Good thing, too. The bad thing? The game is 3 years old now and the player base is tiny. You won't have much opportunities to play this Coop in 2017. Get a friend or don't get any hopes for it.
    This is about it.
Thank for taking time to read this and I hope your will enjoy it, if you do decide to buy it.

While in idea sounds great I felt rather trapped. They could have done so much more. I have been replaying IV on the PS4 and I missed the open world. The big open environments. I believe if Unity had more cities I would have given it a higher score. Also while the map is scattered with tons to do..it really doesn't take too long to finish them all. This game frustrates me because it's a good game that could have been great. The controls are poor, god help you when you need to jump through a window or do many other actions, it's so random and just lacking any sort of consistency. The new shooting mechanic is bad, aim before you even pull out your gun? WTF? The frame rate is utter garbage. 30fps is crap to begin with IMO and is struggles to achieve that. Why is it that most of my Wii U games run at a smooth 60fps yet on my PS4 I'm being beaten over the head with 30fps? Cut that **** out! The amount of NPC's was entirely unnecessary. Seriously way over done and I'm guessing a major culprit when it comes to the frame rate issues. I live in a modern day metropolis and at rush hour the downtown core isn't as full of people as revolutionary France? Ok then...

I know that's quite a few gripes for a 7/10 but at the end of the day the biggest test for any game I play is simple, do I want to keep playing? With AC unity the answer was yes despite its many flaws.

But Unity was so poorly put together it has left a long lasting sour taste in my mouth. It's original problems have largely been fixed; the crashes, the online matching for multi player. But the little things that still ruin the game's experience continue. Mostly, I encounter issues with online. Enemies that won't spawn, but somehow still attack you. It's frustrating to see your character die from attacks you can't even respond to. The character will himself freeze up, failing to respond to attacking enemies. He just stands there holding his sword, but won't run, won't attack, won't shoot. Another continual problem I come across is the NPC's in certain missions, like "Women's March" will freeze up. In this mission you have to escort and defend two allies. The mission won't continue to the next objective until they reach their destination, but they just stop walking and won't move. "The Tournament" is another multi player mission that routinely fails. Multiple enemies are supposed to attack you in the third objective but they're invisible...

All in all, it's still a good Assassin's Creed game. the entire franchise has had moments where it could have been better. I've actually screamed at the TV when Ezio would leap off a building when I gave the command to run along the roof. But it's always been a great franchise. Unity could continue this trend, if only Ubisoft would fix these constant bugs and glitches. Or, even better, if they had taken the time before release to get it right the first time.

This game is all of the above, in many ways. It's buggy and crashes often. It's mostly single player, but in order to unlock all of your character's abilities, you'll need to complete all of the online multiplayer co-op missions. And there are quite a few in-game items that can only be unlocked through paid content packs.

And, as for the game itself, when it works, you'll be treated to barely-above-PS3-quality graphics, a sometimes-confusing stealth mechanic, and a parkour element that ensures that your character will always hang onto the wrong ledge and thus be seen by the enemy.

but the bugs are very noticeable. Im streaming it off an SSD which really helps cut down the long load times, but the NPCs uniforms changing as you get closer is very noticeable, and once you've seen it, you cant not see it. Ive had a few NPCs hovering in mid-air, and a weird spinning sword bug when looting bodies (happened every time for about 20min), but other than that, its been a good fun game with plenty of interest.

I still feel the control system needs some refinement though. Every now and then while running through streets or on rooftops Arno insists on jumping onto a table or chimney stack and just crouching there for too long. More than once have I exclaimed in frustration "GET MOVING!!!".

Look past the bugs and its a great game. Especially as I got it for £7. Will fill the time before Syndicate comes out, which I really hope will have some serious improvements.

Disappointing launch, but very good game. Would recommend to anyone who wants to Parkour around 1790s Paris. Way better than older games like Revelations or AC 3. Unity has almost none of this annoying modern day story that was completely pointless. Only reason people play these games is going back in time, not some modern day bs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought Assassin's Creed Unity on launch day, because I've been a faithful fan of the series since the very first game Assassin's Creed in which we follow the story of Altair. Excitedly I slid the disc into my PS4, which I had purchased specifically in order to play THIS game back in December. That's right, almost a full year before. I am that much of a fan. This was my experience:

Graphics: Honestly, I did not see the AMAZINGNESS that some reviews were claiming. Perhaps I don't posses their discerning eye, but I didn't see much of a difference from the graphics presented to me in Assassin's Creed Black Flag. Missing was the weather system I expected, it only occasionally rained for a brief time before clearing up to sunny again. When my character dove into the water, he emerged completely dry. I appreciated being able to see through most windows, and while limited in their diversity, you could go inside most building; whether through an open window or locked door. 2/10

Atmosphere: Crowds. I felt like this was the embodiment of the word in Unity. There were people everywhere, and they clogged up every single street and space on the ground. It made scaling the side of a building and traversing the roof tops far more appealing than having to deal with the feeble jog that Arno would succumb to when he'd push his way in. The city of Paris is massive, and took me several days to completely explore, however I feel like a genuine atmosphere was sacrificed in order to give the lackluster impression of population. The NPCs wander around, sometimes in circles, meander to shops and even hold hands as they traverse the streets. People waved the same head on several pikes, burned effigies in protest, and even threw rotted fruit at the guards. Revolution! I get it. 2/10

AI: There are some aspects here that were very well done, but others that really need some work. You can stand in front of a guard in a restricted area and he will not see you. You can sometimes kill several guards with the hidden blade before any nearby become alarmed. Some NPC baddies seemed to be able to see through walls. I did appreciate the one time I managed to get tattled on by a nearby NPC when he saw me kill a guard and knew where I was hiding. Even pointed me out to another guard who was asking if anyone saw anything. NPCs take the hills if you preform a high profile action such as shooting someone, or killing a guard in crowd cover. So no complaints there. Arno is unable to use his hidden blade as his main weapon, and you can't air assassinate a guard that is aware of your presence. You can air pounce on them, then there is an awkward period when the both of you calmly get to your feet, a pause of several seconds and then engage in combat. 2/10

Sound: This game lacks the music I expected from previous titles. The soundtrack was fantastic in those titles that featured Ezio, which alone told its own sort of story. Sweeping arias, subdued subtle undertones of warning, and blood pumping battle throws...all missing in Unity. There wasn't even any music when wandering about the city, unless you happened across one of the handful of renovated social clubs or that lone guy strumming his guitar. All other audio, such as crowd ambiance, was on a thirty second loop. 1/10

Story: I'm not sure exactly what was happening over in Ubisoft Studios, but someone didn't have their act together when they presented this travesty to their customers. Unity is a love story, not a tale of an assassin let loose on the streets of revolutionary Paris. Arno is in love, and will do everything and anything for it. Including getting himself kicked out of the assassins. What's worse is that once you've completed the 12 story sequences, the developers fail to explain how exactly it is that Arno can continue to work for the assassins and is allowed in their inner sanctum after they remove him from their ranks. There was a stunning lack of depth to Arno, and other than his obsession with his ladylove; had no motivation. Not even a glimmer of interest in investigating the death of his own father that happened in sequence 1. Plot holes abound! 0/10

Multiplayer: I can't say much, I was able to go online for two hours on launch day before getting a PS4 CE-34878-0 error that crashed my game and has continued to do so since. I do know that online connectivity is a must to unlock a great deal of end-game equipment, and so if you are a completionist like myself, you'll find yourself frustrated and annoyed. Ubisoft has been fairly uncooperative in getting this fixed, instead focusing on their also broken companion app. 0/10

Summery: Don't buy this game, unless you're happy paying for an incomplete game. Wait for it to drop in price like Ubisoft stock, and hopefully a majority of the bugs and brokenness will have been fixed. I'm so disappointed in this latest installment of the Assassin's Creed franchise. I've completed the game as much as possible at 89%, and I'm moving on. Sadly.

On top of the technical awfulness, this game just isn't good. The traversal feels more imprecise and unpredictable than ever, the combat feels particularly sluggish and drunken, and the story is a joke. I couldn't even bring myself to play this game for more than an hour at a time (before I traded it in) because there's simply nothing fun about it.
Congrats, Ubisoft. Your awful business practices and lack of professionalism has put me off this series for good.

I don't believe the Developers and Programmers were incompetent but it's obvious that they have been forced to sign off on a game that is just not finished.

Plethora of Glitches and a Framerate that makes the promised '30 Frames Per Second' seems like an idealistic dream. The Game doesn't usher in the franchise to a new Console Generation but it's more like a badly ported PS2 game!! Insanely long load times separate bits of game play, in which, glitches galore and the stuttering frame rate make sure that you are never enjoying the experience.

The hey days of the Assassins Creed games telling a proper story are gone. The story and the cut scenes are so bad that i don't even remember what the point is. Gameplay is ruined by the Frame rate and the glitches, the fact that you know that even running on Roof tops could lead to you getting stuck in some house that you weren't supposed to enter or fall through the floor, means that you are never enjoying the experience.

In conclusion if you are new to the franchise, 'Don't buy it' this game doesn't deserve to be out on the market. Since it is a buggy glitchy mess that never deserved to be put out for sale. However, if you are someone who loves the Assassins Creed Franchise, ' Don't Buy it' else this piece of garbage will ruin great memories of a time where Assassins Creed was about achieving Greatness in Gaming.

I've had to leave the game numerous times to be able to finally free my character from the window that they had somehow fused into. Multiplayer in this game is also where you can find an abundance of glitches and the occasional frame-rate nose dive. I've had the game go from 27 fps to 15 fps within the blink of an eye and stay there for more then 3 minutes. I've also had missions FORBID THEMSELVES from letting my friends and I complete said mission, a prime example of this would be a mission were you have to take out snipers within buildings before a characters chariot comes between their cross-hairs. The mission INTENTIONALLY makes it so that once you've taken out at least 8 of the 9 snipers, the last sniper disappears from existence, and your left looking at the bar that says "8 Out Of 9 Snipers Eliminated" until you restart the mission again and hope that the game is in a forgiving mood. The story of this game feels like a french version of ACII, and in no way does it improve upon it or give you a memorable character like ACII did. The only thing this game seems to do right is the combat system, but about 2/3s of it is still BS. They took away the mechanic were you were able to turn any enemy into a meatshield when an enemy was about to shoot you, so now, every time you fight a group of enemies, you have to either roll around and move like an autistic child on a sugar high to avoid being shot, and even WITH that, you still get hit. The enemies AI seems to have also taken a massive amount of steroids, because the difficulty enemies present now is even more then that of all previous AC games enemies combined. So enjoy dying a lot. Overall, I'm glad a friend lent me this game, because I would have regretted this purchase till the day I died Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. To start off I'll talk about the stability issues of this game. If you are about to cry out that the game doesn't deserve a 10 and that I simply played this after the third patch, you would be wrong. I played this on launch day and I have never experienced a crash or freeze, a fall through the world or the disappearance of a character's face nor have I experienced weapons that won't work or hay stacks that keep you inside. Sure there were glitches, but most of them were funny body movements or crazy, but cool combat finishers. Nothing game breaking or immersion destroying and all stuff I had seen in previous entries. So let's get onto the main game...

Quite simply, this is my game of the year for 2014 and it's easily one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. This is the reason I bought a PS4. The graphics engine is stunning and I made a beeline for the first viewpoint as soon as I got into the world. I put down the controller and just smiled at how rich this world was and how great the cities of the new gen would be. Everything is presented in a beautiful fashion, there were no serious frame rate drops and the animation system is groundbreaking. The character models are realistic as well, but it's the architecturally revolutionary Paris that is the real star of the game. From the big landmarks like the Notre Dame, to the details in the smoke, to the pattern on a small kettlepot, this game is the most visually stunning experience in all of gaming.

What's an Assassin's Creed game without a good story? Unity provides an addictive narrative and likeable characters. You play as Arno Victor Dorian- he was adopted by his Templar friend's father after the death of his Assassin father, yet he has no knowledge of the secret wars that are ongoing. After the death of his second father and his subsequent framing, he meets Pierre Bellec- an assassin who is willing to train him. Breaking out of the Bastille, Arno sets out for revenge and redemption. The story hits a lot of the same notes as that of the second game and I didn't mind the familiar feeling. However, it does something different from any other Assassin's Creed game- it provides a believable and sympathetic love story that uses Arno and Elise in a Romeo and Juliet "doomed affair" style. These leads have great chemistry and the conclusion doesn't provide any happy endings. In short, this story is one of the best in the franchise's history and is easily better than the plots of the last two games.

The 20 hour or so story is backed up by over 30 hours of enjoyable and varied side content. Let's start with the co-op. There are multiple missions to tackle that can be played with a usual number of 1 friend. However, the best ones allow you to join up with three mates for some really fun times. I'll admit that I haven't even touched the online co-op, but I have played through about 4 of the missions and they are really fun. They normally have an overarching objective, but they're longer than campaign missions and reward you with random gear. The other set of co-op missions are the Heists and they task you with sneaking into a location, stealing an artifact and escaping. Every time you are detected, the reward goes down. Die and it starts all over again. I have played two and each one is varied, challenging and fun all at the same time. They also encourage replayability with randomised guard paths and rewards.

Along with the co-op, there are Paris Stories side missions, Social Club tasks (which remind me of the assassination contracts), difficult Nostradamus riddles, murder mysteries, chests with rewarding contents, viewpoints, cockades, artifacts, renovations... I could go on and on and on, but this character limit prevents me. All I can say is that I won't stop until I have 100% sync (I'm at 62%).

Now, finally onto the gameplay. The parkour system is completely renovated and just feels right. Sure there are the usual issues with entering windows here and there (1/4 of buildings now offer seamless exploration), but the new animation system is awesome and the Controlled Descent options are smart and easy to pull off. I love the way Arno jumps and climbs and it's almost like he's flying.

Then there is the combat. It's a lot harder now and you are encouraged to use all your tools. A new difficulty system determines the effectiveness of your gear and it is good to always check out your ranking to se if you can take on more than 4 guys with a rating of 3 out of 5. Stealth is also much better and there is now a crouch better. Enemies also have wider detection radiuses and the new Phantom Blade is very cool in many ways.

Customization is the real big feature of the game though, with hundreds of weapons and gear designs and thousands of combinations. Everything has its perks and there are now skill points which can be spent on upgrades like the double assassination.

I could have typed so much more, but I don't have enough space. I'll say- best AC ever!

Honestly this is the most absorbed I've been by an AC game since AC2. The setting is fresh and gorgeous, the mechanics have been mixed up enough to make it feel fresh and it's the best protagonist the series has had since Ezio. You really feel like part of a living, breathing world with the huge crowds and being able to explore late 18th century Paris inside, out, and below. It's the closest thing I've ever felt to time travel.

I have a feeling that a number of the complaints of poor performance are coming from people who haven't even played the game or just haven't applied the day 1 patch. I've had a few frame hiccups and minimal pop-in but nothing as game breaking as some of the whining brats here would have you believe.

I don't know why there's so many bad reviews for this game I really enjoyed it. Sure it was a bit buggy the first two days but since they put out a patch and it's working fine. It's got a great atmosphere good amazing graphics it's really worth playing trust me. especially since they took it back to Europe with the great atmosphere it's really an amazing game.

The idea of showing you different appotunity and let you decide which way you should approach the mission was great idea indeed. The crime mystery missions were also good new addition. Gives you this Batman detective mission taste.
Another element borrowed from batman was the Nostradamus Enigma missions where you start to solve few riddles similar to the ones used to be in Arkham series.
Now to the bad things. Which are really really bad
Sadly the game is broke. Too much bugs. Annoying bugs. Game breaking bugs. Companion app sync bugs. Uplay connectivity bugs. Lots of bugs everywhere and almost touch every aspect of the game.
UbiSoft even asked gamers to disable online features. Can you believe that?! They were too excited about these online features and to workaround few bugs they asked us to disable the online features.
Also in order to reviel everything on the map you need purchase Helix points in order to unlock time saver packs. Helix points are available on PlayStation Store or XBox Live. and they are not cheap.
This is just too much. UbiSoft totally ruined the game with all the bugs and microtransactions.

Graphics aside, this game is a masterpiece! The setting of Paris in the French revolution is a setting that I have always wanted to see in an AC game, and Ubisoft have pulled it of (I AM NOT AN AC FANBOY, I HATED AC4). The city of Paris is brought to life with amazing architecture and massive crowds of people. No matter where you go, Paris feels alive in every way. The game is filled amazing locations like the Notre Dam cathedral with massively detailed interiors/exteriors. There are tonnes of massive buildings/houses that you can enter which are all alive in their own way. Everywhere you go in Paris something is happening. Some areas in Paris are posh, laid back and have a very happy vibe to them, but some areas of Paris are filled with violent peasants getting causing chaos and starting massive riots. It is a shame that some people can't appreciate a game where you can walk around a city from the past without any restrictions, just the idea of that gives me chills. I free roamed in this game for hours on end totally immersed in the setting. A game where you play as an awesome assassin set in the fully alive city of Paris during the FRENCH REVOLUTION! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD? 10/10- A MASTERPIECE

This is a review of playing Unity AFTER THE 6.5 GB PATCH. In my time playing the game any bugs or glitches were very few and non effective to the actual playing and enjoying the game. But, in my time of multiplayer, I noticed issues of lagging, unable to connect, unable to perform basic attacks, being dropped out, or being the only player showing up for a 4 player co-op mission.

As for the game, Paris is my new favorite city! It's huge and more alive than any other AC city before it. The people in the crowds have many different personas from arguing with each other, having simple discussions, kissing, holding hands, staring off into the distance, laughing and carrying on with their own lives. Truly impressive city to interact with. Graphically, Paris seems to have a haze to it, although I'm not sure if this was done on purpose, reflecting the artwork, or else just the failure of the PS4 system to render it more crisp. The detail on the city buildings look awesome, yet the character themselves look rather bland until you bring the camera in real close to look at all the detail on the skin and clothing. Much like what I noticed in Dragon Age 3. Sound is just fine. I took advice from some people to use the French language option and use English subtitles, which feels more immersive with the history and location. So I'm not listening to these heavy Scottish and British accents in the middle of the French Revolution.

Of which I have to say that the French Revolution is one of the best time periods to have as a backdrop in a video game. You can really sense the anger and demand for change in the people of Paris as you move about. The stories play out quite dramatically in regards to the Reign of Terror, the Fall of the Republic and rise of Napoleon. And they are not done in the God-awful way they were in AC III by playing stupid mini-games to enact history's greatest events. Instead, the protagonist is much affected by events as he is trying to carry out his story. But, Arno, the hero of the game, isn't much of a protagonist. He is more of a plot device reacting to the world. This game certainly doesn't match Ezio's story archs in ACII and Brotherhood.

The gameplay itself still suffers from the wonky combat and movement that has plagued this series since ACIII. Nothing is more hilarious than watching an Assassin try to enter an open window; jumping up, down and all around until he finally goes in. Or, trying to hit the basic attack button, but being too close to a wall and its the same button to hide. Enemies have a field day wacking away at you while you try to figure out if you're going to fight or hide in front of your enemies. Arno has to be the worst fighter in Assassin history. Most times you are stuck in long animations of weapon swings and cannot break of contact to concentrate on multiple enemies. Killing Templars is easy enough with three good strikes; but, guards are much tougher as it takes five good hits to take them out. Get surrounded by three or four guards and you are in trouble while you are very busy blocking and attacking one guard, while another aims his pistol at you taking out half your health with one shot. And speaking of shooting, when a guard or Templar shoots at you, they are very accurate even before the days of rifle barreling. Running into a crowd to avoid getting shot does very little as they are able to place a bullet between your shoulder blades 90% of the time. What is a slap in the face is that Ubisoft seems to have made the combat intentionally difficult so that you can purchase short term upgrades to make you a better fighter. THESE ARE TRANSACTIONS TO PURCHASE ENTICING YOU TO USE REAL MONEY. And I deducted another point for pulling that pay to win **** But, when everything moves smooth with the right timing of your button, the combat and movement is a beautiful site. Too bad this happens less than half the time. Ubisoft should study Shadow of Mordor's combat and movements since they improved upon the AC concept. There was one horrible boss battle that involved horrendous QTE. Being a game were you develope your fighting skills, it's sad that you don't get to use it on your own terms. QTE must GO!!

That said. I loved jumping into Paris whenever I could. I generally hate multiplayer, but this multiplayer is all about co-op and its fun...when it works. With the patch work they done, this game delivers an enjoyable time

Not memorable, not fun, not interesting. A line of dialog from the final boss sums it up: "The order has become so corrupt that we've forgotten our purpose". Ubisoft has become so obsessed with getting every last penny from the AC series that it has thrown storytelling aside which was something that hooked me into the AC series.

    Positives:
+ A huge city of Paris to explore
+ The game looks great in cutscenes and in terms of textures and lighting
+ New weapons in the Phantom blade and Berserk blade
+ AI is tougher making the game more challenging
+ More areas to climb and hide(e.g inside buildings)
+ Coop is ok but not fantastic. Doesn't seem right in a stealth game.

    Negatives:
    - Combat is slow and sometimes unresponsive. Its a 50-50 chance whether your character will parry of not.

    - Gameplay graphics are awful. Draw distance is not that far, characters and objects pop in within viewing distance, Characters get stuck in walls and jump about the place due to colliders.

    - Climbing has become so complicated that Arno gets stuck to EVERYTHING. Trying to navigate into a window can be frustrating especially when chasing someone or trying to get away.

-Story and characters are bland and boring. We have another revenge main story plot which takes place in the French Revolution when it should be a French Revolution main plot with a revenge side-story. The story is also pointless as it tells us nothing about the Templars, The Brotherhood nor does it move the Modern day story along an inch. Players can skip this game and miss nothing from the AC storyline.

    - Paris map is so full of side-quests to do it becomes overwhelming. Honestly you cant even see the Paris map because its overrun with **** to do. Doesn't include a filter so you can see where the next story mission is. They overdid it on the side-quests big time.

    - Microtransactions. The game is set up to get people to buy in game money through micortransactions. It may not be obvious as other games but its there. Cafe renovating doesn't give you as much money as you'd expect and the best weapons and equipment are ridiculously expensive which would make affording them a very long grind. As always anyone defending microtransactions in a AAA release worth €60 is an idiot

While there are some likeable features to Unity, it feels more like a burden then a game changer. The new rpg elements are a decent idea, but there are ways to work around the system that Ubisoft has built (especially if you are playing with a group of competent players). If you have the money you can buy good weapons and equipment, after that it's just a matter of slaughtering your way through the game. Arno is a boring main character, who lacks character development and likeability even moreso then Connor of AC3. If anything, he is arrogant and has all of the makeshift abilities that every Assassin throughout the series bears. Co-op can actually be a fun experience...when the game isn't bugging out horribly. This is easily the sloppiest AC I have ever seen, and while I found that moderately entertaining comically at first, it quickly becomes frustrating and simply unnecessary. Sadly, I should start moving away from the launch window in most games. Now that the game is fixed, the big stuff like club competitions are beginning. It's like Christmas was it's true launch window.

I would stop just short of saying I love this game. I feel just enough on the surface that I can't dig into Paris like I'm a citizen like I felt for some reason in games like San Andreas or even Final Fantasy VI. It's like it's big, it has many quests, but maybe nothing is done to have the game force or enhance intimacy with some of the beautiful backgrounds. This game is so gorgeous, like L.A. Noire, this is a game that begs to have DLC fill every single nook and cranny of this map, but with interesting full quests with great dialog and interesting outcomes. It's one of the first games since the Ezio trilogy that begs for the yearly release cycle to just stop. Just today, I was in an area that had the most beautiful Apple orchard and a stream running past and the only thing to do near there was get a chest. I killed those group of guys, got the chest, the continued down stream and all I could think as I killed the red coats under the bridge were about the possibilities of stories that could have been told there.

I want ninja or samurai. I want at least for a Sherlock Holmes type character and a cowboy that don't wear hoods. At least the Sherlock Holmes type guy wouldn't have to kill people with hidden blades. There is so much potential for the series and I don't think they should scale back, they should flat out slow down. If they have to scale down to make it more intimate, that would be okay. The map in Unity is about as twice as big as it needs to be without the dlc, historical context, etc to some of the settings.

I don't need to tell you about how you can still get stuck doing parkour. Or how the story is starting to get kind of weird that everyone has to join the Assassins. Heck, maybe only every 3 or 4 years a numbered AC should be released and that should be the only game dealing with Assassin and Templar conspiracies. Everyone else will tell you those things. What I'll say is that this is still one of my staple franchises and it was well worth my money, but it won't rock your world or change the way you look at gaming. And despite the hate for Ubisoft right now, this is without a doubt the best looking game of the year and I'm running on AMD hardware so no PCSS and I don't have enough vram to run the highest texture settings at 1440p.

Not great, but not horrible. I've read reviews that were abysmal for this title and was hesitant to buy it. But like a fool, I did anyway. What I got was a game better than I expected. What I got was a game better than I expected. The game itself is reasonably fun, but its overshadowed by a buggy as all hell engine. Numerous times (after patch 3) my character would get suspended inside an object. Enemies can also see through walls now, which is pretty dumb. When they are frenzied they will attempt to shoot people on the floor above them (never hitting them of course)

There are also missions that are still bugged that can never be beaten (a certain murder mystery springs to mind) as well as framerate issues that cause the game to stutter or stop at times especially during multi-player.

The companion app is not nearly as annoying as I had feared it would be and is a nice way to mess around in the AC universe when you aren't at home. Its kind of neat that the companion app will affect the main game by opening chests etc for you. Doing so however is not required to play the game. Nor is it required to get 100% sync for opening chests.

A note - chests and cockades do not appear on the map after you sync your view. You can purchase this in the estore menu using helix credits. Do yourself a favour and purchase this one when you have enough points. Don't bother buying any helix credits. You can earn these in game (although I am not sure how, as I just seemed to have them) you can also trade upoints for them.

The load times in this game are insane... fast travelling is not always faster than just running there. It can take upwards of 1 to 2 minutes for the game to load. Whether its starting up, or loading the main map this makes having the companion app a benefit (it gives you something to do while you wait...)

Storywise I found this one confusing. At different points you seem to be working for the revolutionaries and at other times for the crown. At other times you are working for different branches of the revolutionaries... which again makes no sense.

The other thing that really bothered me from a plot perspective was the complete loss of the "real world" setting we've seen before in AC 1-4. Instead we are being talked to by someone and asked to do things that puts our "character" in real world danger, for absolutely no apparent reason. They also appear to have dropped the thread of moving through memories, and instead talk about this world as if it were the Matrix or something.

I'm hoping future games walk us back from the lazy storytelling in both the world of the past, and the world of the "present"

I also miss the super fun happy times of sailing the ocean blue... but I'm told that's in AC Rogue, so I guess I'll have to try that out.

Arno is a BAD copy of ezio. The first 20 minute of gameplay as a templar (tragedy of jacques de molay) is better than the whole ac unity game was! finally i SAW a real TEMPLAR guys! finally after AC1! even the musics was better for this short gameplay and it was very cinematic and intense.

Music/Sound: sound effect is really awesome but still not mach with ac1 lifelike background sounds, same goes for the music wich is unity have a terrible musics, boring, flat unlike ac1/ac2/ac brotherhood they have genius musics.

i still think the best ac games was AC1,AC2,AC3,AC brotherhood after that the whole asassins creed franchise goes downhill.

However, throw in frame rate issues, buggy game design, take away the abilities to pick up weapons from the ground and it feels like assassins creed has been stripped of what made it fun.

While this game has potential the technology could have been utilized much better. Oh and how about actually releasing a finished product!

-Can't play in stealth mode...(impossible in missions)

    The middle ground:
-Story: it is about love and revenge which is good, but still...no real message beyond it. I like political and deeper messages. This game won't give it to you. This is the first game where I hated both the assassins and templars (thanks to the story): it wasn't clear who fought who and why (usually I felt I would have sided with the royalists, however there are no royalists and revolutionaries in the game. It was just a mess.
-The revolution is NOT in the game (big disappointment), it's not the main focus which is extremely disturbing. (If you want to feel a real revolution play with Assassin's Creed III.)

    Positive aspect of the game:
    -Enormous possibility for customization.
-Huge amount of side missions. (They're pretty good.)
    -Graphics: amazing.

All in all, I have mixed feelings. Definitely not the best AC game and the trailers are completely false in the sense of the game being about the revolution. The control and glitches are annoying. Graphics, side missions and customization, however, add a shiny aspect to the gameplay.

PS: Played the game with an outfit looking like a British soldier/officer. (Added some ridiculous and funny moments to the gameplay.)

I would say this is just as good as Black Flag, and feels like the franchise has gone back to it's roots. People also complain about the gameplay, but what they don't realise is that the gameplay isn't broken, it's just more challenging. In Black Flag, you were handed everything on a plate, in Unity if you wanna pull off some awesome moves the game makes you work for it, and the pay off is better. The combat is more realistic and challenging, and I think this improves the experience. Expand

Giving this game a zero would make it the worst game of all time and that is just nonsense. By no means is it the best assassin's creed game but if you're a fan of the series then you will love this one. The story is not the strongest but besides that it's a very addicting game and I'm having a hard time trying to put it down.

There are so many bugs and glitches in the game and it felt like it was running under 30 fps. The story was just boring and it doesn't make any sense at all. Co-op is terrible!! I could never join my friends in a mission and if you join a public match, players could get you killed easily. The only thing I liked about this game is that missions are more difficult from the previous games and enemies are a lot tougher so it gives you a challenge. Overall Assassin's Creed Unity is a copy and paste game with more bugs and glitches Expand

This game is solid no matter what these fools say. Its fun even tho the combat is still way too easy. Graphics are good missions are fun but the bugs are a major detractor. It looks like your animus was attacked by hackers the open world feels good but animations are badly unpolished. I dont understand the need to make a stealth game co-op. Ac fans dont need multiplayer especially co-op.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. GOOD ASPECTS: The city is beutiful and expansive
The story is better than black flag
The combat is much improved and provides more of a challange than before

BAD ASPECTS: Severe frame rate drop in, really not acceptable in a next gen title running on a next gen system..

Texture loading is awful in places, makes it look like you are running through porridge

NPC's all look the god damn same, i once ran through a crowd of people all wearing the same thing, all saying the same thing "Vive le france" over and over again..

Strange sound drop ins, i dont know how to explain this any other way than say that it is like the game has torrets. Sometimes i might hear a random "UGGGGHHH" out of nowhere in the middle of a stealth sequence or repeated NPC dialogue "I DONT KNOW HOW THEY FIT ALL THOSE...." all carrying pikes with heads, thousands of them. This is my biggest gripe, at first it was funny but now its just god damn annoying. Fix this **** Ubisoft.

Ok Honestly, I only rated this game a 2 because of the gameplay. The game itself is good but the glitches and bugs ruined my experience. I couldn't play it for more than 2 minutes without the frame rate struggling or the game glitching out on me. It was utterly ridiculous. I would wait for price drop or rent it. I wouldn't purchase this at full price.

Ive only encountered these issues and only come across 1 glitch in the 20+ hours of gameplay which I've had on this so far which was my player falling through the floor. I've not come across any other glitches either in game or during cut scenes that are being reported.

Take way these issues and you have what is a great game on PS4. Every game has their teething problems and I'm sure they will be ironed out quickly. There's already been a day 1 patch to fix some issues and I'm sure once they have gathered all the feedback there will be update following

-The new combat system is terrible: In all the other ac games its been practically the same, hit triangle to shoot, square to attack and circle to counter and slow down time just long enough to choose whether you want to disarm, kill, shoot, hurt and those sometimes changed depending on the game, but in unity its square to attack as usual but when you're attacked all there is, is parry and dodge: dodge is pretty much usless since parry does the same thing and is almost a counter but there is now slowdown or indicator that you're being attacked and if you don't hit it at the right moment you get a chunk of you life taken away, but the worst thing about combat is the lack of human sheild, since every enemy in the game has a pistol, if they stand back and decide to shoot you, you're screwed. You can't use any weapon you want like in all the others you can only use a melle weapons (which you must buy for any real damage) for actual combat, air assassinations are also very glitchy and I'm not even sure whether a double air assassination is possible on this game.

-The parkour is equally horrible, all you can really do is up or down and they seem to never want to just let go of the wall, for example sometimes you'll want to jump over a bench, but the character will just glitch and hold onto to bench and you press everything you would to get down but nothing will work, it even says there is a "wall eject" if you press X which does literally nothing and every jump is just buggy and choppy.

I have no idea why they changed any of these things since they were absolutly fine before. Ubisoft boasts graphics so good it can only run on 30fps but really its looks pretty much the same as black flag, excluding the view point synchronizations. The mechanics of "The crowd" seem non-existant and lock-picking is like no other game, it just feels like a hacking puzzle from black flag. Consumables are used up very quickly since at the start to about half way you have almost no inventory space, and if were to die after using a smoke bomb for example, upon respawn (after a very long loading screen) the item isn't given back.
Multiplayer is poor since bad connections just add to the uncorfortable feeling of the game and to be ablt to play properly you have to complete missions to get points to unlock abilities that ordinarily would already be available. I've experiances a few times when the frame rate would drop to about 5-10 frames and 1 or 2 crashes. The only thing that could redeem the game would be the story line which I haven't yet finished but for now it gets a 4 for an large open map (yet smaller than in ac4), slight improvement on the graphics and a few minor details other games would usually leave out.
Poorly coded and designed-Too much hype.

The story is as engaging as ever, really well thought out, and the level design is great, especially with all of the open buildings to run through, a first in the series. Coming from Black Flag and IV however, the game seems to have taken a step backwards, with no sailing, and a small condensed map. Also too many collectibles, one look at your map to try and find where the next objective will see you searching endlessly through thousands of icons, from side missions, to chests, to letters. Playing through the game lets you evolve your character into the style that you want, be it a juggernaut with lots of health and a two handed axe, or go for a stealthy character, with a lighter weapon and the ability to blend in and hide from the enemy. This is the main thing that sets the game apart from the others. Although this was not executed nearly as well as it should be, I myself decided to play the game as a stealthy character, being a fan of the earlier hitman games, but you are forced to fight in some sections of the game, and this will have you constantly re-trying levels if you are not a strong aggressive character. Most assassinations in the game however do allow you to approach the objective in any way that you choose, and for this and the story i have scored the game so highly. If you arent a massive fan of the series however, i would give this game a miss, and wait for the game next year. Or even buy rogue for the last gen. Expand
