I was not expecting to love Unity, but I do. Ubisoft nailed the big assassination missions and everything in between.

Whoever wanted a revolution, not just in the plot but in gameplay terms, will be disappointed. Trying to make combat and parkour more complex and compelling, Ubisoft Montreal overlooked some complications, and that's a shame, since it will show in every aspect of the gameplay. On the other hand, the digital version of the revolutionary Paris is stunning, and there's a lot to play, so fans of the brand will have their fair share of entertainment.

With gorgeous visuals (and some bugs, as usual), Assassin's Creed Unity is more an evolution than a revolution, but what it changed it did it right, giving a new stealth approach and adding a fresh experience with the co-op missions.

Assassin's Creed Unity is big, beautiful and spectacular, but it's a known game with many graphical bugs. Ubisoft people don't risk, they play to what they believe is insurance.

Look, Assassin’s Creed Unity isn’t a bad game, it’s just not up to the standards of the franchise. It needed more development time – more time to optimize the experience and to get its systems to work smartly.

It's a great story wrapped in a more confusing story, some satisfying stealth action, and mechanics that leave me banging my head against the wall. It's Assassin's Creed, warts and all.

Assassin's Creed: Unity is at once an object of exquisite beauty and exhausting boredom.

Let me be up front...I love the Assassins series, always have. And since I have played EVERY iteration of the series, I was looking at UnityLet me be up front...I love the Assassins series, always have. And since I have played EVERY iteration of the series, I was looking at Unity from a different perspective. I wanted to see if it truly plays like a next gen game and it does...very well. The first thing I noticed was that there are a lot of people, everywhere you go. And I mean a lot. I recall in previous versions of the game that the further you progressed, the more people you would have to navigate through. In the first hour of the game, I have bounced off and worked through thousands of citizens, and it doesn't feel too cluttered. I have noticed some minor glitches running through the crowds (sometimes people further away appear from seemingly nowhere) but frankly it seems to serve as a subtle reminder that I am in the animus and there is a bigger game being played around me.

When I play AAA games, I love to see if I am going to get bored quickly, and in Unity, there is plenty to do. The control schematic people have complained about is actually very sound. Trust me...there were a lot more control issues in black flag (how many times did you have to restart a mission because you fell to your death trying to descend a large mast?) and unity provides a much smoother experience than previous games. For veteran Creed players, there is a small learning curve because intuitively, you just want to run head on into walls to jump up, but there are now specific controls to do so. It took a few attempts to get used to it, but it is pretty easy once you get there.

The landscapes are massive and beautiful. The characters are the best I have seen in the new generation consoles (although it seems that producing realistic hair is going to be a continued challenge). The story has a familiar feel to when we first met Ezio as opposed to Kenway, but it is fun to play through his progression. I am very satisfied with the game. In response to the micro transactions, here's an idea...actually play through the game and earn your gear. This game is one that needs to be experienced and soaked up at an in depth pace. I have taken some time with it, and feel like I have just scratched the surface and can't wait to enjoy this game for hours on end. I am giving this game a perfect score, because I can't think of anything I would add to the experience. Best next gen game to date by far.

There was a glitchy release, so what? Judge the game based on the game itself. All those bugs have been fixed. The game itself is incredible. Excellent jump to next gen, with amazing graphics, characters, and story. Plus, character customization is very fun. I highly recommend this game! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was looking looking forward to Unity, when it came time to play it, I was very impressed but also very dissipointed. It has graphics that are sometimes downright amazing, I was also impressed with the city itself which was very fun to run around. The missions were also very fun and never got boring. I was dissipointed with the lackluster story and charecters. Also the game glitched a lot and the framerate dropped well below 30 at times, but all in all I had an entertaining time playing it. If you liked Assassin's Creed 2 more then the more recent games in the series you'll enjoy Unity a fair amount. It feels like it's going backIf you liked Assassin's Creed 2 more then the more recent games in the series you'll enjoy Unity a fair amount. It feels like it's going back to its roots slightly, With lots of buildings to scale/explore and a story reminiscent of the second game. The game-play and controls are usually where most the frustration comes from playing these games and sadly not to much has changed. Over and Over I found myself dying/frustrated when I wouldn't clime a wall or jump through a window. Other things like the cover system suffer the same problem. Sadly the game is infested with bugs as well, even after an update that reportedly fixed 300+ Bugs.
One of the new additions in Unity is the Co-Op Missions, they range from 2-4 player and reward you with new gear and are usually are slightly more difficult. Sadly most the time I disconnected from my group but the ones I did complete where very fun. The most original thing the game does is take to you different eras of time and you do missions on the Eiffel Tower and other historical parts of Paris.
Overall I feel like Assassin's Creed Unity is wasted potential, Good ideas but poor execution. I hope they keep heading in this direction with the series but work on there bug fixes and creativity.

This game has the worst stealth of the entire series--that is to say, there really is none, even though it's hyped in skills and items. This game has the worst stealth of the entire series--that is to say, there really is none, even though it's hyped in skills and items. Useless. Stealth does not exist, it is only icing to make the player feel as if it's happening. Guards will spot you through walls, around corners. When one guard spots you, 100 guards come running to the scene. I have personally watched guards materialize into thin air, Star Trek style, to rush my character. That's complete ****

The parkour is the most improved of the entire series to this date. I bought this game late after all the early complaints had been addressed, so my rating is based on the "fixed" version of Unity. The missions are absolutely stupid. I rated only one of the pointless side quests 5 stars; all the rest, including all of the main missions, got a 1 or 2. Mainly, because stealth does not work. For instance, a mission to assassinate someone inside a building crawling with guards. So I'm on a window ledge waiting to kill a guard inside. He walks up, spots me, 100 more guards show up, shooting at me through the wall (apparently the window is 10 feet wide). I crawl a few feet away, be still for a few minutes, and all goes back to normal. Translation: Suspense of disbelief blown. Here I am, an assassin, infiltrating a royal house, clearly up to no good, and the guards just give up after 2 minutes and walk away. I realize the game can't accommodate them actually searching the grounds, but give me a #*@*%^&# break.

There's no way to attract a guard to come toward your hiding spot. He might just wander by but usually does not. So what can you do? You have to basically complete the missions exactly as the designer intended because there's no way to misdirect a guard to sneak by or kill him silently. It's all just bollocked up and not fun.

While completing sequence 9, I became so agitated my blood pressure went up, and I just began screaming at the game. Not because I screwed up. This late in the game, I know what the #*@# I'm doing. Because the game does something unbelievably stupid that causes me to restart at the last checkpoint. In other words, I didn't do it EXACTLY the one way it must be done. So much for open world. That's **** There is no open world here, it's a big city scape full of useless treasure chests if you want to waste 50 hours opening up fkg chests. Which gets old after about 1 hour.

This is yet another example of an Ubisoft game that had so much extraordinary potential--like Splinter Cell Blacklist--but the stealth is completely broken so it's just NOT FUN. Although I quit Blacklist after the first few missions out of utter frustration, I stuck with it in Unity because the story was interesting. The gameplay is the usual horrible Ubisoft **** but the story is enjoyable so I suffered through stupid **** missions created by incompetent designers and playtested by fans rather than real QA people. A real QA team could not have tested this game.

I will absolutely never touch this game again after having finished it. Never again! Black Flag, though, was enormously fun and replayable. The Ezio series was fun, though it too had enormously frustrating problems with parkour. So there's the rub: Unity fixed most of the serious flaws in parkour, but STILL manages to anger the player into near controller-smashing rage.

I don't have anger issues. This game brings out rage in me in the same way that a bad driver on the freeway does. It's a justified rage because my best effort has no impact on the situation. So, yeah, that's the best analogy I can think of: Playing a typical AC game is like commuting to work with idiots on the road. At least in AC my life isn't in danger every day, but the emotions are the same.

I tried so hard to like this game. I really did. But, I'm going to explain what's wrong with it, and I am going to ignore all of the gameI tried so hard to like this game. I really did. But, I'm going to explain what's wrong with it, and I am going to ignore all of the game breaking bugs.

First off, the world has no life, whatsoever. Nearly every single mission available feels like a waste of time. Combat has been revamped, and by revamped, I mean it's extremely similar but you have less health. Importance has been placed on stealth, and by that I mean that the game's AI is inconsistent and will sometimes see you from several blocks away because you quietly stabbed a sniper, and other times won't see you from ten feet away under an identical situation.

The story is garbage, with character motivations randomly changing for really no reason. The character of Arno begins as a cocky aristocrat (like another famous assassin), but as soon as he joins the Assassins, all personality is **** from him and he becomes yet another growling Batman clone.

Other nitpicks include chests on the overworld that require REAL MONEY to open, other chests that require some kind of confusing companion smartphone game to open, voice acting that ranges from terrible to decent, extreme amounts of pop-in regarding crowds and textures, and a control scheme that seems like it was designed for someone whose recently gone blind and their hands are number and can't feel the buttons.

On top of all of this, the controls have been "improved" from previous entries in the series. You know how in all of the AC games, you'd occasionally grab onto things you didn't want to? Yeah, that happens ALL THE TIME now, nearly constantly, leading to an extremely frustrating experience.

If you want a next-gen game, get Dragon Age or Dying Light. This game is terrible on almost every single front. Ubisoft should be ashamed with how the treated this game. The ideas are there, like the clothing you wear affecting how you play, but every single one is improperly done, leading to a game that just plain isn't fun.

Avoid at all costs, whether you are a new player or returning fan.

It's not because of the glitches, the graphics, or the laughable pop in. It's because the game is garbage at it's core. The control scheme fights you every time you try to do something. Blocking doesn't work about 80% of the time and rolling only works half the time, and sometimes your guy won't attack at all for no reason. So you're only hope while in combat is to mash the "A" button hoping that the enemy dies before he can retaliate. Also the "stealth combat" or whatever is broken. I press the "b" button which is SUPPOSE to knock someone out but it doesn't work at ALL, Doesn't work when I'm crouched, doesn't work when I'm standing up, the only time it works is when I run and tackle but when I do that everyone magically detects me even though I'm the only guy in a 50 meter radius. The "stealth" is also a joke. Only one guy in a room and he see's me dart behind a table. Does he go investigate? No he goes back to looking out a window even though there's clearly someone else in the room with him. And other times I can be sticking my head into a guards rectum and he won't detect me. It's only if I'm in front of him so as long as your holding down left trigger your good to go. You can also never tell where to go because half the time they don't tell you when your in a general area and your "eagle vision" doesn't show you anyone. It doesn't help that every building and interior looks the same.

Go eat a dick Ubisoft Montreal.
