But the rest of the game is just great! Everything has been improved since the last game and we get a much more interesting protagonist, much more sidequest, a better open world experience. I am not the person who is only looking at the graphics and rating the game only for its graphics. I rate the game for how much fun i had and i give this game a 7 because the optimization was the biggest issue and that caused some annoying problems when i was playing. I should wait for this game when there are more patches released. Expand

Let me start by telling you that I use metacritic for the sole purpose(s) of finding out what other people thought of/think about a game before I make my own decision on whether or not to get the game. This is my very first review here being I did not have that opportunity this time. I still wanted to see what people thought, so I came to read some of the reviews. This is my very first review here being I did not have that opportunity this time. I still wanted to see what people thought, so I came to read some of the reviews. Now, who am I to tell someone what they should think of a game? I can only and will only speak for myself when I tell you that I don't think this game deserves any less than a 7 from anyone for many reasons. Biggest one being that this is one HELL of a game. I absolutely love it thus far. The movement/free running is the most fluid I've seen in any Assassin's game. Other than the very first entry, I've played them all, and this is by far the best. Graphically, it looks amazing. People who are rating this game a 0 are definitely hating on the game for reasons unbeknownst to myself. I think some people have these super high unrealistic expectations that these "new gen" systems are supposed to have graphics and movement like real life tv shows, and they very easily forget that it's STILL A GAME!!! There is so much content in this game its mind boggling, 1 of every 4 buildings is able to be passed through, or even open to explore. THAT'S what the new gen systems are doing. You couldn't possibly fit everything in this game on a 360 version, hence why we got 2 titles this year. This game is fantastic, and every minute that I've played so far, I've felt like I got my money's worth. The sound is A-1, graphically you'd be very hard pressed to find something better, I mean what other game can show you a whole crowd of 100+ people and all have distinguished facial features? Gameplay is phenomenal, and I would recommend this to anyone that is into action/adventure games like this. Now, whether you not you take my advice is obviously totally up to you, but remember one thing, I gain nothing by "selling" you a game, and still gain nothing by bashing a game that doesn't deserve it. This game isn't perfect, but name 1 that is? Even the games with a "10" rating are still very flawed, just look at GTA V. This game is a solid 9.5, but since I can't do .5, I'll make it an even 10 to combat these ridiculous idiotic reviews. Play the game, you'll love it! Expand

The first thing I noticed was that there are a lot of people, everywhere you go. And I mean a lot. I recall in previous versions of the game that the further you progressed, the more people you would have to navigate through. In the first hour of the game, I have bounced off and worked through thousands of citizens, and it doesn't feel too cluttered. I have noticed some minor glitches running through the crowds (sometimes people further away appear from seemingly nowhere) but frankly it seems to serve as a subtle reminder that I am in the animus and there is a bigger game being played around me.

When I play AAA games, I love to see if I am going to get bored quickly, and in Unity, there is plenty to do. The control schematic people have complained about is actually very sound. Trust me...there were a lot more control issues in black flag (how many times did you have to restart a mission because you fell to your death trying to descend a large mast?) and unity provides a much smoother experience than previous games. For veteran Creed players, there is a small learning curve because intuitively, you just want to run head on into walls to jump up, but there are now specific controls to do so. It took a few attempts to get used to it, but it is pretty easy once you get there.

The landscapes are massive and beautiful. The characters are the best I have seen in the new generation consoles (although it seems that producing realistic hair is going to be a continued challenge). The story has a familiar feel to when we first met Ezio as opposed to Kenway, but it is fun to play through his progression. I am very satisfied with the game. In response to the micro transactions, here's an idea...actually play through the game and earn your gear. This game is one that needs to be experienced and soaked up at an in depth pace. I have taken some time with it, and feel like I have just scratched the surface and can't wait to enjoy this game for hours on end. I am giving this game a perfect score, because I can't think of anything I would add to the experience. Best next gen game to date by far.

I have played a few hours of the game and am already completely and utterly enthralled in this game's seductively immersive and artistically realistic universe. The game is so fluid and it is evident that each of the game's major features has been entirely overhauled. This game is an incredibly refreshing and welcome installment in the franchise.

I just can say, I don't give it a 10 for some minor problems in the frame rate. I think it has to do with me doing something in the background, but not sure, its not there all the time, just when an absolutely amazing amount of people is on the screen... again huge, gorgeous, with new coop mode... all this people giving it trash, I'm quite sure they didn't even tried.

The graphics are great and the activity going on around the bustling city is noticeable compared to past releases. I have read about a ton of the bugs that have been reported but I've played through the first two sequences and the only glitch I have had is a few jump frames and a few times I tried to pull my blade nothing happened. But the overall AC experience is here in this game and has met all of my expectations. Giving it zeroes, I don't get it. Complaining that its the same thing with the series over and over again? Why did you buy it? Did you want to put in your AC game and play candy crush, or drive a car? It's easy to tear something apart and get on a bandwagon. I make up my own mind and I find the game a welcome addition to my AC library/experience. I cant wait to get into Rogue. The microtransactions are kind of disappointing, seems like developers want to get more money all the time, via DLC packs, Season Passes and microtransactions. Not a fan of them so I simply don't spend microtransactions. period. I dont lower the score of the overall game to a zero or a one because of it. I love the game so far, Ubisoft is addressing some of the issues and will prob continue to do so. An AC fan here, going stro0ng.

Freedom, blood, fanaticism and colliding visions of where power should rest. The main story missions are varied and fun and Arno is a strong and motivated character. Arno isn't the only strong character in the game either.

The game does however have its problems. Ubisoft has filled the game with micro-transaction which I find annoying although it is far from game ruining. The story is, despite its interesting characters, a bit underwhelming and some bugs and crashes did appear. Stuff like this makes the game a little bit harder to enjoy but I still found it to be a fantastic game. Unity is more like the older AC games like AC2 and AC Brotherhood which is fine by me since those game where the series magnum opus according to me.

Unity was truly the game for me and after a couple of patches it will be even easier to enjoy. I strongly recommend that anyone that liked AC2, AC Brotherhood and AC Revelations buys this NOW. And if you want to try out the Assassins creed franchise, Unity is the perfect place to start.

This is the Assassin's Creed for which I've been waiting! Since the end of Ezio's storyline, I've felt that AC lost its identity in the search for something 'new.' The parts of AC I love returned some in AC: Rogue, but Unity brought back the game I've loved for so long.

Pros: Instead of a half dozen collection quests, Unity brought back meaning to it's side quests and adventures.

    Pros:
Instead of a half dozen collection quests, Unity brought back meaning to it's side quests and adventures. 'Cockades' and 'Artifacts' fulfill the usual go here, get this type quest. The subquests, "Paris Stories' and 'Murder Mysteries' are found around the map, but they are genuine subquests which build upon the history of France during the game's time period. The amount of actual history packed into the subquests is phenomenal. This also means that while the player character, 'Arno Dorian' gets to experience history as it take place around him, the actual mission quests are focused on him and his story. It's perfect! Additionally, the out-of-animus nonsense has been minimized a great deal. Instead of worrying about collecting tablets or other pseudo related content, the non-game time interactions are limited to critical points in the game, and serve the purpose of moving the story forward. Finally, this game is... about Assassin's! There are no selfish vengeful teenagers, selfish greedy pirates, Assassin's turned Templar, or rowboats to be found. Instead, you play an Assassin who joins up for the right reasons, and who stays loyal. You also get back your brotherhood of Assassin's, but it's with some caveats which I'll discuss below.

    Cons:
Eagle Eye and the skill system were nerfed a great deal. Eagle Eye can see through walls, but it has a timer and cool down. Additionally, enemies are not displayed on the map unless: the eagle eye timer is currently active, the player is in a restricted zone. Otherwise, you're flying blind. Skill wise, you must unlock your skills and you cannot unlock them all unless you play the co-op. In general, the co-op feels a bit shoved down your throat. In order to unlock every skill, you must complete the co-op. There is no way to turn co-op missions off (so they always sit there on your map, even if you've completed the mission). You can complete co-op missions by yourself, but most of them are far too difficult, particularly given that desynchronization restarts the entire memory. In other words, while you may finish the primary story line, unless you do cooperative game play, you miss hours of missions and cannot unlock every assassin skill. Frankly, it sucks for the avid single player and ought to be removed in future iterations. Allow co-op players to play that way, but don't punish single players. Additionally, the climbing system and fighting system have been altered a great deal. While I didn't necessarily hate it, and by the end of the game I felt like an old pro, I did find the transition from Rogue to Unity very jarring. Where the remaining questing is concerned, in replacing the half dozen meaningless collection quests, 'Helix quests' were introduced. These are non-story driven quests in which the player has to collect a certain amount of items in a certain period of time. Personally, I found these tedious and unfun. Had they been completely removed from the game, I would have enjoyed the game more. Finally... our brotherhood. We have the ability back to pick our team of assassin's, and to choose how they develop. Unfortunately, the only way to access them is through the 'Companion App" on smart phones, tablets, or computers. While I have both, I found it very frustrating that the game was not contained to the console. Everything you access in the Companion App could have been included in the game very, very easily. For those I know who chose not to download the app, they're missing a huge chunk of possibilities. That too sucks for players. We should be able to buy a console, buy the game, and not be reliant on anything outside of that. Which brings me to my final complaint... Ubisoft needs to stop trying to playscam people out of their real money. There are so many pay-to-win opportunities in this game that it hurts. Items are unlocked with in-game currency, and yet people can pay real money to unlock them whenever they'd like. At every turn, Ubisoft tries to stuff it's "pay us more money!" helix credits down the players throat and it's really off-putting. Single player games like this should not have in-game purchases, period. I understand and love DLCs but this brings AC a bit too close to Candy Crush. They need to focus more on content that is so good players want to earn the unlock, and less on making a quick buck. It shows a disrespect to the player.

In conclusion, if you're like me, and the best games in the series to you were the character driven Ezio narrative then you will LOVE this game. Unfortunately, gameplay is detracted from with micro-transactions and forced out of console content. Still, the gameplay makes up for it, leading to an overall enjoyable gaming experience.

probably my favorite AC yet. Beautifully rendered Paris, tons of content, detailed animation, and a revamped traversal system that makes running across the city a joy. It feels like a true sequel to ACII, much more than III or IV did.

I started playing post-patches, and as far as I can tell, the poor performance issues that apparently plagued the game upon release have been dealt with.

All the "major problems" with this game have been severely exaggerated. First of all, the frame rate drops occasionally on both consoles, but on Xbox One it has been tested to be pretty stable around the 29-30 fps mark, occasionally dropping to 25 when a lot of effects are going off in big crowds. It doesn't happen that often. In comparison, the PS4 version jumps as far down as 19fps at some times. So the PS4 version I would deem broken, but frame rate wise the Xbox One version at least holds up. Therefore I would say the lower score on the Xbox One version is based on exactly nothing.

Next "problem," the pop-in. Yes it's annoying when a character or object spawns right in front of you out of nowhere. However, I have not encountered that situation in all my time of playing. And I'm somebody that really looks out for graphical glitches like that, because I find them irritating.

You might wonder if I found any huge problems at all. The answer is yes; I got stuck in a post and had to exit out of the game one time. ONE TIME. So to wrap things up I'll just say I feel like I played a very different Unity from all the negative reviewers. It's fair to say I may have been lucky to have this few problems, but I can't help but feel the negativity is unnecessary. I can't give this game a low grade and feel like I'm doing the right thing. I'll give Unity a solid 8.0. Would be at least .5 higher if the performance was flawless, and the micro-transactions non-existent.

Just looking at this game with literally blow your mind. The gameplay is fantastic and fluid, with all animations looking insanely realistic. In contrast to what many people are saying, I find the story to be excellent. Sure the frame rate drops here and there but its barely noticeable and can easily be fixed in a patch, which is what Ubisoft has already said they will do. Also the grudges against microtransactions make no sense, as they are only an option for those who do not want to put the time in to earn all the items themselves. You can easily obtain all the items in the game with a little bit of time put into it, which isn't at all a chore since this game is so excellent. If you don't want to do that, you are defeating the purpose of playing games in the first place.

My advice is, if you are at all interested in this game/the AC series, do not listen to all of these haters, as in my opinion, their scores and arguments are completely unjustified. Go out and buy this game and I guarantee you will certainly find it to be enjoyable and furthermore, extraordinary.

The descend mechanic is a big plus, and cuts down the frustration of not finding a proper haystack to jump into when on top of building. The custamization of the protagonist is a big plus, catering to prefered play style (mine was of course stealthy as hell).

The Arno Dorian storyline is maybe not the strongest in the franchise but it has it's moments. Elise and others are memorable characters. The big let down is the modern day which seems to be non existing. Don't know if it's just for this game or for the remaining of the series but they need to do some serious rethinking on that issue because the overall arc falls a bit flat without a proper modern day problem to handle. Music wise, good as always.

Big no-no's: The nomad and initiate chest which is just frustrating. Not a problem for me per say as i've been a member of initate and enjoys mobile games but I can see the frustration of it. Why not just make the nomad game a standalone game?

The frame-rate is in most cases somewhere between 28-30 fps, only few times it goes down to 25 and in 41 hour playing it, it only went down to lower than 20 fps maybe 5 times. And yeees, there are pop-ins, but when you see thousands of citizens at the same time, I mean, come on, it looks gorgeous.

So now to some info about the game: the story is as good/bad as in each Assassin's Creed, but the presentation and mission variation makes it to my favourite Assassin's Creed (AC 2 was my favourite till today). The story is done in about 12 hours, but after that, I spent over 30 hours doing side quests which are pretty good varied.

One last word about micro-transactions: yes we all hate them, but in AC Unity, there is seriously no reason to buy them. You get about 41k through your Café each hour + these helix units for special kills. So you can buy everything in a short time and have no need to spend extra money.

I'm enjoying the story and love the Multiplayer levels these are great fun and challenging at time.
Paris looks great the entire game looks beautiful, people who are complaining about the look of the game must be playing this on a 20 year old TV as on my 1080p LG it looks awesome.
I gave only encountered 1 Jumping glitch so far which is a massive improvement on previous titles.

My only real negatives would be the loading times and i am surprised this hasn't been mentioned before, loading takes ages!! if you die it takes way to long to go back and start again, each level takes forever to load and really can make you start losing interest in playing. The other problem i have is that there is nothing that stands out from previous titles its better but not amazing not the game changer i was expecting.

over all its a 8.7 for me very good but i was expecting a little more.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Hi, i recently got a xbox one, about in October 2014 because my xbox 360 broke. i started playing Assassin's Creed 3, then Black Flag (Assassin's Creed 4), and now this. i have to say that this is actually the best one yet. They made HUGE improvements on the game that you would very much notice. I will give you a few examples. When you kill the bad guy( Not gonna spoil it), you can fight or assassinate them, and right after you kill them, the people around you would be either looking like they deserved it or running away in fear. Then later i was standing in the croud as i saw some police come and investigate it. They don't actually investigate and catch you but it is a minor detail that i think really makes the game better. Another thing they added was that you can upgrade your weapons, buy cloth and skills, and weapons all buy a click of a button on your controller, instead of running 300m to a shop. there is just so much to pick from and i think they made the economy system of the game from a 6/10 to a 9/10. It is also not hard to get ingame money. i was playing for about 1 hour and 30mins and i collect about 2500, enough to buy a medium weapon. Another cool feature is how you need to buy your skills with skill points that are earned from completing the campaign missions. After each mission you can do what ever you want until you want to go ahead and start another mission. The game is based on campaign with free roam in it which is pretty awesome. They map is huge and is cut up into many districts, on your map you can easily see where is easier to kill enemies and what district is harder. I WOULD HIGHLY suggest this game to anyone who likes intense gaming, the french revolution( oh no spoiler!), and free roaming on rooftops and dissapearing with smoke bombs. Also, the multiplayer got alot easier too, just have xbox live gold, and you can join co-op missions with online players with an easy click, or simply invite your friend into YOUR world. i hope this helps, thank you for taking your time and reading this review. If this game wasn't buggy and would run well I would give it a 10. Combat is good and co-op is fun but free running feels like it still needs to be improved. I think that is it unfair this game gets trashed on.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In terms of a 1-10 score, this would probably be the lowest that I would rate any of the Assassin's Creed games. However, this is likely my favorite one so far. I give Ubisoft a lot of credit for what I can see that they were trying to do, and tying in narrative elements from AC4 helps to craft a compelling world. However, a lot of that world got buried in bizarre bugs and glitches that were very distracting from the experience. It often takes the form of something new that is great, but almost ruins something that they've gotten right in previous games, like the free running system. Downward parkour is awesome, but the game often misinterpreted what I was trying to do and made me run up walls or perch on statues instead of simply moving forward.
In addition, I was pretty disappointed with the ending. Trying to find the remains of the Sage was an excellent storyline for the iteration after AC4, but given that Arno had the foresight to hide his remains in the catacombs means that it pretty much didn't matter if we experienced his genetic memory or not. As someone who really enjoyed the modern-day Abstergo employee sections of AC4, this one was also a bit light on the connections to modern-day content and Templar goings-on.
Overall, if you are a fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise, this game is deserving of your attention. If you aren't yet a fan, this one probably won't change your mind.

The new 'run down' button makes those annoying moments where you would jump off something really high and fall to your death much less common than in all previous AC games, and really makes the whole experience much smoother than before.

First thing if your looking for a game what plays like AC4 then go find rogue if your looking for a game that goes back to what the series used to be then Unity is god damn amazing.

First if you have been hearing its much of the same its not excaly true. Yes the series mantains the feel that it has for years it has just drop the "fresh fan favorite" of naval combat. Unity however has added some thing to the core mechanics that i have been begging for for years. First freerunninng its its VASTLY improved looking critically it not giant changes to the the system but these few changes make freerunning less aggravating slow affairs of previous games to fun precise and fluid. The main aggravation i've had playing AC games is when the game constantly trys to guess what you want and guesses wrong i.e jumping up the wrong things or doing the automatic jump in the wrong direction etc. In my time with unity i have not once had this problem. assigning buttons to if you want to slide or of climb instead of it being automatic gives you alot more control. Further the parkour up and down feature makes climbing better and not a chore to transverse. you can now move and flow along buildings in the direction you want how you want easily and its great.

stealth also has been tweaked giving the guards a last known location instead of just running after you provides a more realistic approach to guards then them just knowing what direction you ran also provides a method of distraction or luring them to a location. A simple but a much needed feature is the crouch and snap to cover button. simple mechanic thats hardly groundbreaking but for AC it was sorely needed now and silently creep by and hide easily instead of just standing awkwardly on a corner and then trying to walk past.

Admittedly im not far into the story as i am normally when i review( i normally wait until i finish but im a good way though it) the story personally is catching to me its engaged and intrigued me and character wise i love arno already. Im one of Internets few lovers of connor and i ended up really like edward but they toke a while before i did (especially edward) but Arno got my attention much quicker.

Visually the game is jaw dropping the environments are richly detailed and huge i found myself disabling my hood and just walking the streets trying to take it all in. To make it even better cut-scenes look just as great as the game play to the extent of once i didn't realize it brought me back into the game.

performance wise I know there have been alot of issues but i have been luckly graced with none of them yet (knock on wood) and i have tried some of the missions and things what are glitched as far as visual quality i had 2 or 3 stutters while free running but it has since stoped. For those of you who have them i understand it extremely frustrating and ubisoft already said they are working on it but i implore you not to be so negative scoring wise as the game itself is fantastic and your issues will be addressed.

now then i have been very positive about unity but their are some things that aggravate me. First i think its everyone's grip of the chest on your map only being open with the companion app or initiates. The amount of times ive been prompted about initiates is frustrating and although i shouldnt have a problem once i link past games to it its still annoying. Also the companion app is just the run of the mill mission flash games where you tap a few buttons and wait for completion. I do think the detailed map is cool and helpful but i hate walking by these chests and not being able to open them. I prefer them not being visble on the map. Now the one good thing about them is they dont really hold anything vastly needed just some extra gear which is still good but there's no rush and i can mess with the companion app when im waiting around for other things. other wise id have given it a lower score for it now another grip ive seen around is macro transactions. Personally im just as aggravated at them but then its only for a easy way to buy gear yes gear is expensive but i prefer the gear i find and im no stranger to painfully trying to raise in game money to but things in AC( 3 was annoying ) so if you dont wanna pay any money then just work and pay for it just like the old AC.

This AC goes back to being a member of the brotherhood of assassins and being a deadly assassins in a rich grand historical setting and city while great 3 and 4 stepped away form what AC used to be and unity goes back to that love it or hate is up to you thats why rogue exists

Furthermore, while the microtransactions might look like a way to cash in, it is mostly a way to enhance the game even further.
Ubisoft has made far more than sixty dollars worth of game, and therefore, you get to pay for the extra gameplay you want to have (the main storyline is worth at least eighty dollars in time, joy and beauty, so you're already getting some bang for your buck.)

And really, were you expecting anything less from the makers of such classics as Watch-Dogs, the Far Cry series (especially 4) and, well, Assasins Creed?
The storyline is impeccable (as always), co-op is tons of fun, and the entire game feels... next-gen.

And as I said, I was expecting Unity to be terrible, and you know why?
The countless trolls who berate the game for things I haven't even encountered within the game, the people who hack into the game to change fundamental parts of the game and then make 'bug videos' showcasing all the (alleged) bugs all to get views and make money off of the bad publicity this game gets.
    And that's terrible.

And by 'that' I mean 'this game' and by 'terrible' I mean 'is awful and boring' and by the rest of the review I mean I haven't even bought the game.

    Open world - massively improved
Graphics - notwithstanding frequent (but not constant) issues, massively improved
Combat - massively improved, has fixed the series' combat essentially. Actually difficult now, when against more than 3 enemies or high level enemies. Quick reflexes required - better than Batman or Mordor's combat.
Side missions - hugely, hugely improved. Several of the murder mysteries are better than Wolf Among Us or Batman's detective work. There are so many of them and they are so brilliantly varied.
Customisation - hugely improved. So many colours and clothing options, like a full-blown RPG.
Free-running and gameplay systems - amazing. Free running still occasionally misses the mark, but such an improvement. Also new resources like Creed Points actually incentivise playing well.
Story - excellent. Best writing in the series, Arno is great, way better than Ezio. Matches AAA fiction like Game of Thrones quite often. Really good stuff.

A problem will crop up every 10 minutes or so - sudden framerate drop or bad clipping or stupid NPC AI or pop-in - but the other 9 minutes will be brilliant entertainment. What the Assassin's Creed series should have been since the first one.

PS microtransactions are entirely ignorable and the Companion app stuff seems decent. Don't like it, don't use it.

Yes its going to have stealth missions so don't buy the **** game if that isn't your thing, overall the game is enjoyable and there is character development it's weaker then's Ezio's since we saw in 3 games, where as Arno is only currently in one game, the combat is better since theirs know more counter chain so the combat reminds me of AC2 and the new stealth mechanic is welcomed new addition since in previous games like Revelations and AC3 felt weird just walking around in a restricted area without anything to hind in other than a bush.

    Character Development:
Better than AC3 but not as good as Ezio's (obvious reasons) and for people **** about being Arno as kid being annoying in AC2 you had to do **** chores liking carrying paintings and thats been praised as the best AC game ever.

    Storyline:
I found it better than both AC3 and AC4 because it felt like you where fighting alongside a brotherhood and there was an actual struggle between Assassin's and the Templar's unlike AC4 where you didn't give a **** about the assassin's until the end

    Combat:
I much welcome break from AC3 and AC4 god like chain kill mechanic, I understand when they introduce it into brotherhood because Ezio was a master assassin but being able to do that as a pirate right from the start from AC4 was wrong and I did enjoy the being able to role and dodge and being made to parry was good, and the game is actual hard if you get hit by two rifles you are dead which is a welcome change from never dying and one welcome changed which I wasn't really surprised after playing Watch Dogs was the skills and choosing your own weapon this is mostly cool when your killing people with a Katana, mostly because it's badass.

    Movement:
The parkour controls feel more like AC2-Revelations being made to use the A button as well as the right trigger and descending from buildings is now easier. The stealth movement is a welcome addition which I felt they should of added ages ago.

    Graphics:
A bit of lag I didn't mind and the NPC's walking around remind of Black flag graphic wise but the thing people are missing is the attention to detail because as well as the street designs theres interiors as well which aren't instant loads in and Ubisoft I believe are releasing a patch update for the Europe's release of the game which is today and due to the fact their stocks dropped by 12% but aside from the occasional frame rate drop for me it is the best looking game to look at.

    Missions:
First let me say thank God you don't get desynchronised when you have been spotted and now there's barely any tail missions, I found the main missions to be enjoyable and I really like the Paris story missions which where always a welcomed break and I good place to make money. Now for the multiplayer the one thing that really pisses me of is that people go, Assassin's unity focuses too much on multiplayer and it's impossible to do it stealthy because of everyone else, but it isn't when you are with friends or you are communicating with other people which the developers stated you should be doing for it to be working effectively.

    Final verdict
8/10 better than AC3 not as fun as AC4 but there is a lot more things to keep you occupied and with enjoyable customisation, and also don't read the review which have scored the game under 5 because it doesn't deserve games like Risen, Mindjack and Ride to hell should be getting those kind of scores

Some Pros: Excellent story, great looking and fun open world, story/side missions are great to play.

Some Cons: Can be buggy at times, controls can seem too loose allowing for unwanted direction on movement.

    ADDRESSING NEGATIVITY:

Contrary to what reviews are telling you, Ubisoft did not send out a broken game and it actually is a lot of fun to play. I have played nearly 16 hours since release, and the only bugs that I have encountered are NPC's occasionally disappearing from a crowd and getting stuck after jumping down off of a roof into a corner(which can be solved rather easily with a fast travel). To put it clearly, bugs may be noticed occasionally, but in no way do they "wreck" the game like reviewers are saying. For frame rate, the ONLY time you may experience noticeable a drop is when you synchronize at the top of a building and the camera circles you from afar. While actually playing in the world, the frame rate stays near constant and it looks fine. All in all, reviewers that say this game is "unplayable" couldn't be further from the truth and really don't understand what makes the game they're playing fun.

The only negative aspect of this game that actually should be considered an issue is the movement system. Like I said before, the game is still awesome to play and movement is generally easy to use but movement is on the verge of being too loose. Also, the introduction of using two different buttons to control vertical movement creates issues. On paper the buttons operate fine, but learning to use the buttons at the correct time is challenging and it often results in being stuck on a ledge trying to figure out how to move to the correct spot. With practice, movement operates how you would like 90% of the time, but you will still find yourself occasionally making a move that you didn't want just because you were holding the wrong button with intentions to make with a different motion.

    FINAL SUMMARY

After mentioning mostly negative aspects, the game may seem like it deserves negative scores but in reality, it is probably the best assassin's creed game to date. This sounds like it is coming straight out of the blue but bugs aside, the story/missions/and excellent world all offset the minor bugs and make the game a fun experience. Details such as the ability to travel in nearly a quarter of all buildings makes the world extremely interactive and realistic, and the new stealth and combat both operate very well in contrast to the touchy freerunning. In all, the game still is enough fun to make it worth your buck, and if you don't buy it simply because over dramatized reviews cried wolf then you will be missing out.

P.S. If you actually are going to be affected by inaccurate reviews, please, watch gameplay of Assassin's Creed Unity on YouTube. You will see within seconds how the game is actually worth it.

Does ubisoft even test it on the xbox? or did they only test it on pc because the playstation has te same errors.

So strange that they were so prominent and then vanished, I'm assuming this is the part most people played and got a bad taste in their mouths. Arno is an awesome character, the suit customization options are totally endless and combat is finally fun, no longer do you strike the same person 30 times and do zero damage, you can use 3 types of small, long and heavy weapons, it's hard to choose which because you feel like a badass with each of them. The graphics are outstanding, there is a lot of texture pop-in but I'm sure this will be patched out. I would highly suggest playing Rogue first and giving Unity some time to fix itself, and for Initiatives companion app to kick in to play properly, it looks rewarding as heck. I am happy with the game thus far but it is CLEARLY rushed out to meet deadlines, I look more forward to what the completed Unity will be in a months time when it's been cleaned up- and it will be, the exact same issue happened with Black Flag which people seem to forget. Regardless, so far, 7 hours in, a solid 9. Expand

It has graphics that are sometimes downright amazing, I was also impressed with the city itself which was very fun to run around. The missions were also very fun and never got boring. I was dissipointed with the lackluster story and charecters. Also the game glitched a lot and the framerate dropped well below 30 at times, but all in all I had an entertaining time playing it. The parkour has been streamlined even more with the very useful automatic climbing down mechanic. It eliminates the "where's the haystack" search for a safe landing. There's no more leaps to instant death off of a very tall structure because of this. The mission failing has been made much more forgiving by not erasing all your progress you've made getting to a target and ultimately dying. My only real negative is the game took a small step back in fighting mechanics. Doesn't seem as crisp as older games. Expand

Now where AC:U shines. The story is back! AC3 and AC4 were horrible story telling that dragged along a stilted plot to facilitate a melee and sailing simulator, Three got a 7.5 and AC4 got a 6 from my household. Simply put when the office job is the "exciting" part of the game you have failed. AC:U feels more like the AC2 games in the story telling and the feeling you are the actual character. When the "real world" intrudes I almost get annoyed. even though the parallel plot is part of the game's timeline.

Does Unity have some bugs? Yes, but they aren't nearly as bad as some of these people would lead you to believe. They are the sort of harmless bugs I see in most complex open world games.

All I know is that Unity runs very well on my PC considering how amazing it looks. And I am enjoying the game immensely. The story is the best yet in the series, in my opinion. I'm drawn in and legitimately want to know what happens next. It doesn't hurt that the cutscenes are so gobsmackingly beautiful.

The gameplay is also the best in the series for me. The combat is harder and requires more skill and focus. I've actually died quite a few times in this game, which generally doesn't happen much to me in other AC games.

The traversal is generally much smoother and more refined this time. The animations are incredibly detailed and varied and there is a greater sense of freedom of movement. Sometimes when using the controlled descent mechanics your character will kind of float unnaturally sideways as he is descending, but that is the only niggle I have with the new mechanics. Being able to climb up, over and around things so fluidly makes me feel like spiderman. I also like the fact that you can now enter so many buildings and use them as pathways while traversing through the city.

Stealth has been improved dramatically. Finally we can crouch and take cover behind objects, which opens up all kinds of neat gameplay scenarios in the game. It's finally a proper stealth game. There is also a "last known position" mechanic, similar to that found in the recent Splinter Cell games, and it works well and allows you to use it to your advantage to attract and slip away from enemies.

The mission structure is a lot better and more flexible than in previous entries. You are given a certain mission, but it can dynamically change this time. You aren't stuck completing it only one predefined way. There is also a much greater variety of different side missions you can tackle in the game. It all makes the game so addictive.

As far as the visuals, all I can say is 'wow'. I can say without any hesitation nor hint of exaggeration that this is the best looking game I have played on PC. The lighting, shading and materials all look stunning. It's filled with detailed textures, volumetric smoke and fog, extremely detailed character models, the most realistic hair I've seen in a game, lots of neat shader work, and a host of advanced post effects.

So far it is easily the best game in the series for me and one of the best games I've played this year.

I remember when I first played AC1 and saying to a friend that it was the best game I'd ever played (and I've been playing computer and videogames for 37 years now!). AC Unity continues the trend by being possibly the most beautiful game (and man, it's smooth, no fps problems or glitches at all on the XB1!) I've ever played!
I don't understand how people can complain that there is an AC game released every year and that they're repetitive when you have such new and amazingly detailed architecture and full cities being rendered and populated, along with great acting, stories and side stories... The more I play this game, the more it pulls me in.
I have to admit that initially it took me a while to get into the game, as it nearly always does with AC games, but once you get the hang of it and start improving your character and weapons, it just becomes a blast, the city of Paris is truly your playground! Along with the fast travel ability and new mission types such as murder mysteries and riddles, the game never really feels old nor boring and gives you a great variety of tasks to break up the monotony that has plagued other similar mission-based games.
Keep those AC games coming Ubisoft (even though I did wait and buy the game with a great discount!) and we'll keep buying them. I really want the next AC game to be set in WW2 Europe, it would be amazing to have to find and assassinate Hitler in his bunker at the end of the game and lends itself quite well to the templars and assassins and the (crazy) ideas and ideals of the Nazis!

It was more of a pirate game instead of an assassin's creed game. Unity is a return to formula, and the combat is challenging again. There's character optimization and the side quests mean something again. Murder mysteries and riddles, plus and world that expands through the side quests. The glitches now are typical of assassins creed, but not game breaking. I enjoy how the game has a difficulty curve now, but it doesn't require ridiculous grinding to pass it. This game is a hidden gem that had an awful launch. Should Ubisoft follow this path again with its launch? No. However, they are compensating the afflicted nicely and fairly. The only reason I actually don't give the game a full score from the time I played (started a week ago) is because of the companion app. It isn't necessary, but its annoying there are bonuses that you can't really get because the app takes more effort than you want to give it. The game is fixed, and it is fun. It is one of those good games you buy later because the awful bugs will be patched, like the Elder Scrolls series. Honestly, this game is no Black Flag. The sailing and sea battle elements of that game are not here, and attempts to streamline the free running aspects actually made it a bit more clunky than Black Flag, though they were still as good as or better than nearly every other open world game I have ever played.
I also missed the Assassination Side Missions that have been in every other iteration of this game except the first one. Seriously, whoever spearheaded the idea of getting rid of assassination missions in a game where you play an assassin should be fired. To replace those, however, are tons of other side missions and repeatable missions that can be played single or multi player, so there is never a lack of things to do.

The best part of this game is Paris itself. The world is really, really big, and exploring it is a blast. The thing that I never see this game get credit for is that so many of the buildings in this game can be entered and explored. Previously the best you could hope for was a short cut here and there that would automatically take you through a building. In this game you can enter windows, run up the stairs, and basically go in and out of most of the buildings. This makes the city feel more like a city and less like a series of obstacles to go over and around. It always bugged me that it was perfectly OK to kill guards in the street, but going through a window was a no no.

The other great advancement was that they got rid of the convoluted backstory. No more Desmond or anyone resembling him. Given, there is not nearly as much tying the present to the past as in the previous games, but it had all become too much.

Lastly, the companion app and its interaction with the console game is nothing to write home about, but it is also completely unnecessary. Sure, if you want to get 100% completion you have to use it, but other than that you are not missing out on anything except for a few weapons and outfit items that are functionally obsolete (they are really just useless collectibles) almost from the beginning. Is it great? No. Does it detract from the game? Also no.

This game has a really undeserved bad reputation. As nitpicky as you want to get, this is a fun game with tons to explore, and that is exactly what I am looking for in this series.

This game had a lot of glitches. But you know I don't give a cuss about any of that.
I thought that, though it could be better, the script was well written and I loved the love story that our hero had going for him. And for me... the stealth worked fine. All I had to do was get spotted a little and let the guards investigate while I stuck up from behind. But the graphics could have been

I am a big fan of the AC series and have always enjoyed the games and so I was always going to get this game regardless of the negative comments and mediocre reviews. That being said I did go into the game expecting the worst as the technical issues and bugs in the game had been well documented.

I can't comment on what the game was like when released initially, what I can say is that my experience was, for the most part, smooth and bug free. There was a little clipping here and there, but no more than I expect from any game, and I didn't experience anything like the issues people had been reporting upon release. Whether the game has been patched over the past year or I was just lucky I really couldn't say, but I found the game stunning and technically brilliant. The visuals are outstanding and, once again, the game ran perfectly with no technical issues at all.

The game plays like all previous AC games and though the formula has been tweaked slightly with improvements to the combat and stealth mechanic, there is no mistaking this is an AC game. The setting is incredible and suits the gameplay of AC perfectly, with a huge map to explore and countless collectibles, side missions and extras. The biggest change to the game is the addition of the 'optional' co-op missions you can take part in, I have not really explored this side of the game as I personally only take interest in the single player aspect of games like this. (It is worth noting that you can, and I did, complete co-op missions alone if you prefer).

The storyline in Unity is, in my opinion, the strongest since the Ezio trilogy and the main character is also the best lead since Ezio too.

Basically if you are a fan of the AC series then I strongly recommend this game, whilst I enjoyed Black Flag and Rogue, they never felt like true AC games, Unity does.

Excellent game, one of my favourites in the series. I understand that there is a lot of hate towards the game as a number of people experienced issues or glitches. I'm not sure if this is on the PC or PS4 as I did not experience any issues whatsoever on Xbox One.

The graphics and lighting are very well done and the amount of detail which has gone into the creating of the map is incredible. As an architecture student, I really appreciate the details which has gone into each landmark and building within the city.

The story is compelling, although there are similarities to Assassin's Creed 2 in the narrative. Character customisation is a nice addition to the game. I would however prefer it if some of the better looking items weren't only available through the online co-op as it is difficult to find a game. Also the incorporation of the companion app and initiates leaves a lot to be desired and can be quite frustrating. The new combat system can take some getting used to but I feel it can be much more rewarding once mastered.

On a final note, I have played all of the games in the series and am a huge Assassin's Creed fan. I feel this is a huge improvement over the games set in the Americas as it goes back to the large urban routes of the series, where the game feels much more at home. I do not feel this game deserves all the negative reviews.

Hope this was helpful, please give the game a chance!

Assassin's Creed Unity is a great game that has truly come into its own with patches. Most voice actors do great work, the environment is breathtaking and detailed, and the game is brimming with content.

On a Xbox Series X you always get 60 FPS and that's a game changer... also you can now buy the game and its expansion "Dead kings" for a total of at about 2 Euros (yep, two Euros) on many websites.

About the story... well, it is an AC so read the previous comments... but considering it costs almost nothing now, 60 FPS and all the glitches fixed it is a good deal if you never played it before.
