I remember when I first played AC1 and saying to a friend that it was the best game I'd ever played (and I've been playing computer and videogames for 35 years now!). AC Unity continues the trend by being possibly the most beautiful game (and man, it's smooth, no fps problems or glitches at all!) I've ever played!
I don't understand how people can complain that there is an AC game released every year and that they're repetitive when you have such new and amazingly detailed architecture and full cities being rendered and populated, along with great acting and backstories... The more I play this game, the more it pulls me in.
I have to admit that initially it took me a while to get into the game, as it nearly always does with AC games, but once you get the hang of it and start improving your character and weapons, it just becomes a blast, the city of Paris is truly your playground! Along with the fast travel ability and new mission types such as murder mysteries and riddles, the game never really feels old nor boring and give you a great variety of tasks to break up the monotony that has plagued other slightly similar games.
Keep those AC games coming Ubisoft (even though I did wait and buy the game with a great discount!) and we'll keep buying them. I really want the next AC game to be set in WW2 Europe, it would be amazing to have to find and assassinate Hitler in his bunker at the end of the game and lends itself quite well to the templars and assassins and the (crazy) ideas and ideals of the Nazis!

This game brought back many of the key elements to the franchise that old school AC players loved. The brotherhood, the high beautiful landmarks to climb and run all over in a stunning city. I personally experience no bugs or glitches at all. First game since AC2 that I loved every minute of running around. Paris was gorgeous and it is obvious Ubisoft spent a lot of time researching the city and history. My gripes are more so with the inclusion of the necessary AC companion app to unlock suits and chests, microtransactions (although not needed they are still annoying), and the seemingly non existent modern day storyline. But the historical setting and the characters, Arno and Elise mainly, are my second favorite behind Ezio. Great game, has flaws of course. But any fan of AC needs to play this one. Expand

The fps dips hard and even at the maximum of 30fps it feels very sluggish. The scifi setup is stupid and ruins the immersion often, Movement glitches make sneaking almost impossible. Everybody has British accent in France, NPCs run against walls, glide everywhere and warp stupidly on objects. 1 point for trying to make co-op.

However, in its current state, aside from a few sticky control issues, it is perfectly playable and also sufficiently enjoyable. Graphically its impressive, and the hundreds of on screen NPC's at a single time is particularly splendid. The combat can at times be weak, yet I've never enjoyed combat in previous iterations, however in this particular game it can be slightly more punishing, and the preferable method is to assassinate and run, arguable what the franchise is about. The side missions can be entertaining, although a tendency to mindlessly complete them without really considering their story is commonplace and perhaps due to the irrelevance of many of them. The murder mysteries can be quite entertaining also, yet often they drag on with investigation zones miles apart. Similarly, the main assassination missions have been revamped, with numerous entries and side missions that can affect the nature of the assassination, interesting but not revolutionary. Overall, a year on this is a fairly standard AC game, with clunkier controls, yet certainly a more interesting and detailed setting and environment that other iterations. Probably worth a rental if you're particularly interesting in the series. Expand

But I did not play it as soon as I got home. When the first reports of bugs, glitches and so on started to take the internet by storm, I decided to wait, let it be patched and give it a try. And I really have to say I love, I absolutely love this game after it's been patched. The fact that I'm very into the French Revolution helps a lot, but I did enjoy my time with ACU and do think of it as one of the best ones in the franchise. Is it a perfect game? No way, absolutely not.

Being the first AC on the new generation, I expected to see some flaws. But the overall experience makes up for it in my opinion. The game is gorgeous, the atmosphere, the characters (I really liked Arno, sue me). And the simplified mechanics worked for me as well. Just like the first AC games, we have a city, a huge, beautiful city, as a playground with tons, TONS of stuff to find / do / decipher etc. Both side quests and main quests keep the experience fresh as you climb your way towards becoming an important pillar in the revolution - and the addition of the co-op (although occasionally broken) missions are a breath of fresh air. So, yes, this is a great game, and one that needs to be played and enjoyed.

Now to the bad stuff. And I concentrate "bad" in one particular thing: Ubisoft's greed. ACU is, by far, the most Assassins Greed ever. And I feel offended, as a gamer and as a consumer, to pay extra dollars to acquire either points or gear or whatever. Basically, they created a system in which we can pay to progress faster. If you don't want to go through all the content in the game (quests, missions, co-op missions) you can just pay your way to the top. This sucks and I really hope no one gave in to this. This must end here. Period.

And, also, this whole "companion app" thing? Give up, Ubisoft. Nobody got time for that and locking content for those who won't play a smart phone app is lame as hell. It's "free", yeah, but there is also a "premium" version. So my biggest problem with Ubisoft is this attitude.

Assassins Creed Unity is an incredible game, one that kept me entertained for hours and hours - and for the 1st time I intend to play the extra chapters. Ubisoft just needs to get real and start listening to what consumers are saying about this nefarious DLC culture.

The requirement of carefully planned stealth with assassinations is always enjoyable with AC...and AC:U doesn't let down in this respect. Loads of fun so far. Much appreciated is the expansion of range of exploration to the inside of buildings (again, exquisitely detailed), improved character customization/loadout, and added element of challenge that seems to be inherent in combat now. Definitely more difficult! The co-op missions have been frustrating so far, but I've never been a big co-op enthusiast, honestly......definitely wasn't the selling point of this game for me.

All in all, I'm happy...and having fun. I'd like to see a patch fix all the glitches in one sweep of the sword, but I'm not holding my breath. I"m hoping epic scale games such as this and BF(another game I'm thrilled with in spite of epidemic glitches/code issues) gain facility in optimization with next gen hardware in the future. It'd be a shame for developers to shy away from this kind of game in the future, simply because of a few hiccups in the beginning

Yet, instead of continuing on that path, Ubisoft has decided to come back to it's roots, releasing AC:Unity, resembling greatly to AC:2.

To make it simple. We've lost the ''new'' that we had found with AC:Black Flag. Yes we have a deeper customization system for armour and weapons, a new Parkour System that helps with descending from higher grounds, but then, we also have many major issues.

The plot is somewhat boring, but we usually can get passed by that when the gameplay experience compensates.

The thing is, it doesn't. We have a broken game. A release that should have been delayed for the loyal and new players.

I've played it on the PS4. The choppy frame rate is horrible. Indoors, I usually drop around 20ish FPS and let's not talk about the outdoors and it's overcrowded roads which kills it.

I've encountered many bugs with very little game time, where the PC won't respond to the controller's commands, glitches, instant kills, and very sluggish battles where I wasn't able to fight the enemies.

I've played many of the AC series, yet have never been so disappointed by one (excluding the 1st and original AC)

Also, let's note that the game is harder than all of the other entries, with far-away check points and with a less powerful PC.

It breaks the mood. I don't feel all that powerful and had the fantasy of being able to play the previous assassins from earlier entries.

    Get your stuff together Ubi.

Over and Over I found myself dying/frustrated when I wouldn't clime a wall or jump through a window. Other things like the cover system suffer the same problem. Sadly the game is infested with bugs as well, even after an update that reportedly fixed 300+ Bugs.
One of the new additions in Unity is the Co-Op Missions, they range from 2-4 player and reward you with new gear and are usually are slightly more difficult. Sadly most the time I disconnected from my group but the ones I did complete where very fun. The most original thing the game does is take to you different eras of time and you do missions on the Eiffel Tower and other historical parts of Paris.

"Joking aside, the graphics, mission structure, co-op focus, and other implementations make this game a step backwards from AC4."

Are you serious? This IS Assassin's Creed, not a naval simulator. I'm thankful that Unity took a step back from ACIV's gameplay. ACIV just felt like a third person Call Of Duty. 1 v 10? Not a problem in ACIV, as you can chain kills with the overpowered counter-kill system. Is that the essence of an assassin? Mowing and plowing down everyone in your way?

Unity felt like a step back to the original Assassin's Creed games, especially to AC1, where there is no counter kill at all, all for a good reason. Mowing and plowing down everyone in your way is fun, but it gets boring after awhile. It also takes away the necessity to buy better equipments *cough* microtransactions *cough* (actually, in ACU you could farm for the items yourself without the microtransactions, pretty easy actually, just complete all Cafe Theatre renovations and missions and purchase all Social Clubs, ta-da! 10,000 livres per 15 minutes, although some are locked until you play Club Competition)

From the stealth perspective, the cover mechanic is a welcome, although unnecessary, addition to the game. The stealth mode (L2 button) introduced into the game is also a great addition to the game, as it enhances stealth playstyles greatly and adds a new dimension to the game.

Ranged-weapon mechanics is a bit of a pain in the a** though. Rifles and pistols have the same range and accuracy. Seriously? The aiming mode is quite buggy too.

The problem with ACU is that you can BARELY Assassinate mission targets that are incapacitated inside smoke bombs if you are already inside a conflict. The targeting system is a bit of a mess imo.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the gameplay, although some elements can be better implemented *cough* less glitchy *cough*.

I do agree on the graphics being subpar though. They were great during the first few missions, but then they went to crap as the missions progressed. And don't mention the clippings. They're EVERYWHERE (trivia: the epidemic begun from AC Brotherhood). Even in cutscenes. Seriously Ubisoft? At least you can make sure that none of the hoods (I'm looking at you, Legendary Phantom Hood) clip Arno's face so innocenly in one of the most important cutscenes of your game (including the last mission).

The parkour and controls are both good and bad. The good thing is that parkour from high buildings is much easier now as you don't have to slowly climb down a building if you can't find a haystack. This makes ALL the difference. The bad thing is that the "Controlled Descent" system is glitchy. Sometimes Arno would clip inside a wall when descending and clip out again for a brief moment. Overall though, I think the revamped parkour system is a very welcome addition to the franchise, provided that you don't mind playing spidey.

However, the game felt EXTREMELY unpolished. The tutorials are incomplete, the "Database" doesn't have much information (trivia: they have grammatical errors! such a polished game!)

Hell, the e-manual doesn't even tell you how to reload your pistols! I had to spam my DualShock to figure it out (hint: it's L3).

Moving on to the co-op system. As a YouTube user described it:
    "DISCLAIMER:
This trailer is HEAVILY SCRIPTED and does not depict the reality of co-op with your dumbass friends."

The co-op system though, is fairly solid. Even when I played with a guy from UK (I'm in SEA), the co-op session felt lag-less and it was a very fun experience.

And yes, before you ask, the FPS is choppy. Not as choppy people seemed to led me to believe though (20-30 FPS, I thought it was like 10 or 5). Personally, it's a minor problem compared to the other problems.

The story, on the other hand, has potential. But it's just way too compressed. It's basically Assassin's Creed Simulator. Remember how Ezio got 3 titles dedicated just for him (4 if you count Embers). Now imagine those 3 titles are condensed into 1 title. A disaster. An over-compressed piece of junk. Arno went from a womanizer into a homicidal assassin imbued with spidey-abilities bent on revenge in, what, several hours? Main characters has A LOT OF POTENTIALS, but Ubisoft deems it necessary to kill them off in a few missions after they were introduced. The missions are basically "Kill Target A". Done. Hell, the First Civilization became a minor footnote/reference in this title! Where's the conspiracies we AC fans love?

I don't usually appreciate stories being dragged out, but I feel that this story needs to be dragged out. Let us enjoy the appetizer before proceeding to the main course. Hell, you could make even more money than micro-transaction!

Overall, a dirty-ass impure diamond-ore that has not been refined into actual diamond. It's dirty, it's muddy, but when you look at the potentials of it, you'll be astounded as to why Ubisoft rushed its refinement

It's just another revenge romp through revolutionary Paris. As with AC: 3 it was a let down. I've learned not to get excited for these games because they end up being good but not great. If they would of put more love into the story, make Robespierre more of a villain, and make you feel like your really changing the country then it would of been amazing.

The assassination missions where you choose the way you want to infiltrate and take out your target was a nice touch, as well as the murder mysteries. The game had it's moments but at the end of the day it was the 4th or 5th best assassins creed (having not played rogue) but it could of been the best. They really need to focus more on the story. I feel like every year they fail to capitalize on the history that surrounds these settings.

While it is a good game it isn't anywhere near great. If your gonna buy one game this year this shouldn't be it. Hell, if your gonna buy 5 games this year I'm not sure I can say this should be one of them.

This game is an unpolished mess. Texture popping, low framerate and random audio bugs ruin the experience. I would strongly advise people not to buy this game.

As usual, Ubisoft released a game full of bugs and glitches. You have NPCs falling through walls and the ground, slow frame rates, and don't even get me started on that awful pop in. This is an over-hyped game that turned out to be a disaster.

I can not inform you on much about the game as i will have to wait to actually be able to play the game for more than 2 hours since i cannot play with a maximum of 20fps per second! I will try to return the game asap since it is unplayable in its current state!

Ubisoft does it again, after moving to the yearly release model of Call of Duty they decide to put out the worst Assassin's Creed game ever. Even though this game is devoid of any creativity and fun, it sure makes up for it with its game breaking glitches and micro-transactions. Don't buy this game.

I would define myself as Assassins Creed fan. I´ve played every game so far, but this isn´t quite as amusing as the others were. I mean seriously frame breaks on a next gen console, that´s not how i like it. The controls are sometimes very squishy and the story, well it´s all right so far, but it isn´t quite the same feeling as it was.
So maybe it´s time to say goodbye to this franchise

I'm not sure some of the other reviewers on here have even played the game. It hit out shelves on Friday and its now Sunday, this review is perhaps the only thing I've done other than eat, sleep and play since it's landed. Even though I am a massive fan of the series I try to be objective in what I write.

All the ingredients are there which make a good AC game. It's graphically very crisp as you'd expect from the series, and the usual array of characters are neatly written into an absorbing and varied set of stories and challenges. The game has taken a step back by having the one main area, Paris, as opposed to splitting down to multiple locations. As yet I haven't visited every area of Paris which gives you an idea of how big it is, and cleverly writing in playable sequences featuring the Eiffell Tower really does show the intention of immersing you in Parisian life.

Arno is likeable and engrossing where perhaps the protagonist from AC3 and Edward Kenway were not as such. His relationships with the other characters feel very real and I feel genuine emotion between him and Elise which doesn't always come through in a game.

Those moaning about combat are angry because you can't just mash the buttons in amongst 50 guards and win every time. You have to pick your fights cleverly, and know when you've bitten off more than you can chew. It's unforgiving at times, a fight with four guards will invariably leave Arno in a pool of claret and you back where you started the mission. During some combat it can be tough to see whats going on. If you're close to a wall the camera can obscure you or guards which is a little frustrating.

I like the stealth and the ghost image which is obviously lifted from Splinter Cell. Arno can't hide behind everything though which is a little frustrating, at times I've hit X button to crouch by a wall and simply stood in plain view - and believe me the A1 isn't forgiving at all. You do soon pick up where and when this is going to occur though.

There are some bugs. Twice I've started a mission only for me to complete one part of it and nothing else to happen - no further instructions or map points. It's frustrating indeed but it's never happened on the main story and both times the game has carried on - I've been and selected another mission.

I've occasionally seen NP's walk through each other, and I saw one spawn in a cart of hay but given the thousands I've encountered I can be a little forgiving. The streets are bustling with life, people are everywhere and whilst some complain they slow you down surely that's the idea? The streets of Paris would be bustling, these things would slow you down! The rooftops are the place to be and unlike previous AC's they're not full of guards waiting to shoot you down, meaning movement across the city is very free and easy.

All in I acknowledge the game needs a little work still, one or two bugs creep in that hamper the game playing experience. At present it isn't the first real next gen only game that has blown me away. I'm still waiting for that (Far Cry 4 maybe), but it is a return to what I believe makes the AC series. Black Flag was very good but it had strayed a little from the Assassins Creed formula. I think that is what makes this series so great - Black Flag was a multiple location sea faring game whilst this is back to one city stealth and lots of side quests.

It misses a 9 or a 10 because of the bugs, but I don't think the haters understand what makes a good AC game. It's not about button bashing and shooting at ships, it's about stealth, picking your fights and for the first time ever building your character. Its well written, well presented and doubtless with a patch or two being released it'll become well polished. Don't avoid this because twenty or thirty teenagers find it inaccessible - they'll be back on COD and FIFA before the more refined gamer is 30% of the way through this beauty.

ACIV was excellent and I had high hopes for Unity, I was severely disappointed. There are a lot of positive and awesome things this game does, yet a lot of faults exist too.

    Pros:
    1. So much to do (quests, murder mysteries, collect gear, etc)
    2. Good quality texture and lightning
    3. Decent companion throughout the game (Elise) and main character isn't heritable
    4. Character customization, lot of equipment to choose from
    5. Downward movement mechanic (Overrated though)
    6. Entering buildings all over the map through windows almost seamlessly
    7. Set piece assassinations, really great having to think and plan an assassination
    8. Huge map with excellent locations perfect for set piece assassinations

    Cons
    1. So much to do that none of the side quests offer anything significant. It's overwhelming and clutters your map. They don't tie into the story, don't offer anything other than a mission to do, which is fine, but all it did was trigger OCD for me.
    2. Whatever the textures and lighting were doing, be prepared to have it destroyed by awful framerate
    3. Glitches everywhere
    4. Terrible combat (Due to terrible controls), missing a lot of combat features from previous games that would have helped. Anyone with a gun in group combat is going to raise your blood pressure due to frustration with the dodge ability. Nothing new, missing old, terrible choice.
    5. Controls are awful, it's like your covered in superglue whenever you run. Even wide spaces need careful running as you can easily climb a chair or random wall.
    6. Glitches
    7. Glitches
    8. Skills customization (Most of these aren't even skills, they're just things assassins in previous games do by default like ROLLING after a fall). You miss out on a lot of skills if you don't play coop to get skill points, and they affect your single player missions. Which really sucks because you're not given new abilities and you miss out on old useful ones too.
    9. Boring final boss mission
    10. Story sucks, revenge plot (that's essentially it), no memorable cast at all
    11. Bad controls (Needs to be said twice)
    12. Enemies can be insanely difficult at times due to awful controls, I did not enjoy the combat at all, and I usually love AC combat, in that regard, weird difficulty spikes

All in all, the people at UBI put effort, and it shows, but they aimed for the stars and failed, rather than delivering a nice cheeseburger, they overcooked a steak to the point of it being barely edible. And you can't blame them, the company demands yearly games (2 this year) with huge scope.

This series needs to go back to basics, get tighter controls, adopt a less is more approach.

Worth it for $20, especially since you get dead kings DLC for free.

This game has so much potential, but much of it is wasted due to the fact that apparently Ubisoft doesn't care enough about their consumers to put it through proper testing prior to release. That's the only plausible explanation, for how else could a game with this many bugs and this awful of a frame rate be allowed to be released into the market?

I understand that games will have a few bugs that slip under the radar every once in awhile, but the amount and severity of the bugs in this game is absolutely unacceptable.
Also, at times the frame rate in this game gets so bad that it feels like you're playing an online game on dial-up internet.

Another issue I have is the fighting in this game, as there's a significant delay in the time you push the button to the time that Arno actually does the move you're telling him to. For instance, if I push the X button, there's a delay from the time I push the button to the time that Arno attacks. Compare this to the instant response you get when playing Shadow of Mordor, and this delay seems like an eternity.

The one upside to the game is how amazing the graphics are, as it's easily one of the best looking games out there. However, the graphics aren't enough to make up for the overwhelming amount of things that are wrong with the game.

Ubisoft should be embarrassed by this pathetic excuse for a AAA title.

    A fresh new start
Assassin’s Creed Unity tells the story of Arno Dorian.
Some spoilery stuff happens and he becomes an assassin out to avenge.
While the story may seem familiar at first, I found it to be very original and personal.
It was refreshing to have a character that feels real rather than a larger than life hero like past assassin’s creed games, it’s just a shame that the character development isn’t there to make the emotions feel as real as Arno does.
Due to complaints of Assassins Creed 3, ubisoft seem abit afraid to let you see a character grow and evolve.
The story skips ahead too quickly and doesn’t allow you to dive too deep into character development,
Arno’s careless and selfish, he has a crush, but it all feels preexisting. The story feels very set up rather than natural and flowing, but that didn’t take away the fact that I still cared about Arno and the outcome of his tale.
Set up is the ultimate downfall of the games 12 hours campaign.
While they have the graphics down to make cut scenes and the in game engine look nearly perfect, the flow that previous games had is missing.
It very rarely feels like the world around you is alive during the main story missions.
You don’t get to a spot to see things in action, you get there and the action spawns.
You don’t see it spawn, but your 6th sense can just feel it spawn, you can feel that it waits on you.
The campaign has an intense emphasis on stealth.
Like Assassins Creed IV, the campaign here seems to follow the same pattern of mission structure.
Rather than tailing, this time you do a lot of sneaking and infiltrating.
Luckily unlike Assassins Creed IV, Unity does a great job of hiding the repetitiveness, every mission though nearly identical objectives always contain different approaches. Never making you feel like you just did this even though you pretty much did.
I really hope that the dev team is just trying to show off the new stealth mechanics and AI as much as possible, and that this isn’t a structure staple of future games.
Optional objectives are back, just now disguised as quote unquote challenges and sometimes seem pointless and annoyingly impossible to do, not because they are, but because you feel crippled after being so used to whistling to attract guards and having infinite eagle vision.
it’s really hard to manipulate the environment in unity compared to past games which by itself I don’t mind that much even though it gets annoying when you are tasked with taking out more than 5 targets, and when optional objectives are thrown in like hiding spot kills is when I really start to mind,
All you can do to luir is use a cherry bomb, but even then it just alerts guards and thugs, they won’t actually move to the spot to check things out.
The entire stealth system lacks flow.
Trying to take cover doesn’t work half of the time, it’s hard to leave cover and stay crouched to prevent detection from the spidy sensed enemies, it’s all just very awkward.
Assassins Creed Unity does do a wonderful job of pulling you in though.
I was massively impressed with the opening of Assassins Creed unity.
I forgot I didn’t live in 18th century France for the first 30 minutes of the game, and then I try to open the first chest I find and POW smacked with play some mission in our companion app, so I take out my 21st century cell phone and lose all immersion instantly.
Sure I love the idea of unlocking things for my character while I’m on the go, but I don’t want to be smacked with locked chests that force me to use your apps and websites.
Keyword there is force, I liked the app, it grew on me, but it should be optional.
Especially when they don’t work half of the time like initiates.
They should be used as an opportunity to continue your quest away from the game, not force fed if you want to fully clean your map and there is a lot of map cleaning to do which for the first time since Assassin’s Creed 3 I can actually appreciate.
Collectibles such as chests in Assassins Creed Unity are useful again as there aren’t many ways to make money in the game outside of quests for the first half of the game, they will keep you in Unity’s world for a good 10 plus hours by themselves, finally immersing you in the assassin’s creed universe again unlocking weapons, outfits, and upgrades.
I went into unity not expecting much, I heard nothing but bad things and I admit when I actually got into the world I absolutely hated it, but I paused for a moment to find why I hated it.
The game was frustrating to me. The button layout has changed, double assassinations had to be unlocked, eagle vision needed a cool down, I was dying almost instantly when I would get into fights.
But the truth that I found is that I don’t hate Unity. I hated change, I hated that the comfort and familiarity I was used to was gone.
This realization turned that hate into appreciation and love.
It reminded me of playing Assassins Creed Revelations again.
In my memory, Revelations was the most immersive game I’ve ever played and the hardest Assassins Creed games I ever played, It was also my first. I felt like I had to pick that game apart for it’s best weapons, I had to pick my fights and master it’s combat, this is exactly what Unity was for me.
It was like playing the series for the first time all over again.
Assassin’s Creed unity has scrapped the familiar combat system, to make it immersive, rather than swift and satisfying, which some may love and others may hate.
I personally hated it at first.
I hated going into a 5 diamond difficulty district and getting killed in 2 to 3 hits when enemies there needed nearly 20 hits to die.
Combat is now, attack, perry, and doge.
    It’s fun, but not perfect.
I often found myself not getting credit for perrys and for some reason the developers thought it would be a great idea to get rid of human shields.
The only way to not get shot now is to roll around in the dirt, and even then it isn’t a guarantee.
The enemy ai in Unity are ridiculously accurate.
They are hashtag hacks, aimbot noobs.
The gun play ruins the combat and makes it feel cheap. Enemies essentially get automated assault rifles, and despite seemingly having endless clips, never have ammo or medicine on them when you loot them which makes combat even more frustrating.
Money is hard to come by, and you’ll find yourself drinking down medicine like water and emptying your barrel like you’re in a western show down.
It’s annoying to have to find a shop to refill these vital consumables as they seem to be extremely rare to find on a body which makes no sense, and again money is hard to come by during the first half of the game, so it sucks having to sacrifice upgrades to prevent such quick deaths on medicines to keep you from desyncing. These no scope snipers will hit you 99% of the time, even when you are moving and dancing around like a madman making the customization that much more important. For the first time in Assassins Creed history, you have individual articles of clothing that can boost your health, stealth, melee, and ranged attacks, you luckily don’t have to choose one or the other. As long as you are anonymous you can freely swap clothing to prepare for a specific approach you plan on taking for a mission. If you want to sneak around, max out your stealth and ranged attacks. If you want to go in swords swinging, balance your melee and health, if you aren’t sure, balance all 4. I love the addition of this system, and I love working to unlock everything But even when I upgraded myself to a level 4 out of 5, I found myself the victim of many cheap deaths even in 3 diamond districts. It wasn’t until I finally had all legendary gear that things started to feel fair and balanced to me. Around the city, there are of course collectibles as I mentioned, but a world that almost feels alive. Assassins Creed got the city right in Assassins Creed through Assassin’s Creed Revelations, but from 3 onward something changed. The crowd no longer reacts to you, but rather moves around you. They aren’t calling you names, running up to you or throwing rocks at you as they were in the past, they are having their own conversations and are randomly getting robbed and ganged up on. The crowd immersion has improved in unity since AC3, but hardly. Immersion to me is being noticed when I arrive, not just when I run into someone. Sure that sounds narcissistic, but when you’re the protagonist, pack the narcissism on. It kind of brought me back to the Call of Duty Ghosts demo when they bragged about the fish moving when you got close. This is what Unity’s world feels like. Artificial triggers. Where the city really starts to come alive is with its side content. Other than being the batman of Paris, you can also be the Sherlock Holmes of Paris by solving murder mysteries that pop up on the map as you run around. I really enjoyed my time with these missions. You search for clues with eagle vision and carefully listen to conversations until you believe you’ve gathered enough information to rightfully accuse who you believe the perpetrator is. These murder mysteries were some of my favorite side missions in gaming history. If solving murders isn’t your thing, there are about 70 Paris story missions scattered throughout the map that all tell individual stories, some pretty interesting and crazy. A lot of wild goose chasing, but they are fun to run through and learn about the strange things going on throughout the city, this is where you really get a feel for the revolution going on around you. There are also mind numbing Nostradamus enigmas, that give give clues to locations in the game to find armor pieces. Many will find the difficulty of these riddles frustrating and annoying, but I appreciate the task at hand. Many if not all will have you searching the internet for their meanings. Assassin’s Creed Unity is a game that will last you a while. I know that frustrates a lot of your that just want to pop in the game and have everything by the end of the week with little to no effort, but unity will not allow this, prepare to do some work and research if you want to fully complete this game. Unity of course also features a co-op mode where you can play missions with up to 3 other people or alone. These missions consists of heists and regular missions. All for the most part follow the formula of the main campaign. Choose your approach and get the job done with your friends or randoms and as expected, your pairings will really make or break your experience with co-op. Not everyone takes bonuses and completion as serious as you do. , there are also clubs to join, club mission to complete and solo club missions that will have you running around taking care of the crooks in Paris. All in all, Assassin’s Creed Unity will give you a great 50 to 100 hours of game play easily if you plan on doing everything there is to. While many hype reviews may have been let down which ultimately effected their score, I’m not a hype reviewer and hype didn’t effect mine. For what it is Action Adventure Stealth Game 8/10 Overall 8.5/10

The plot...I have never ever heard of a story so messed up like this, they completely ruined it, not to mention the ending, which is absolutely horrible! Last AC game for me for a while.

And lastly, the Frame rate....10-15 fps on PS4, seriously? "Cinematic"? no thanks. Graphics is mediocre...next gen game, yeah right...

Wow, a pretty good game. Not as great as AC:BF but great none the less. I've completed the story line, which was great, all the regular co-op, most of the heist, have all but two Sync points. Did most of the Enigma's, a few sequences left to replay to get to 100%, most of the Helix Rift missions, so I can say I've played the game fairly thoroughly.

Regarding bugs, I played the first 4hrs w/o the day one patch. I didn't notice anything beyond the minor crowd outfit changing, and only notice that when walking slowly towards an existing crowd. Not one fall through the floor, not one pop-in character, not one character running in place,... I put on the 1.01 patch, and played for about 6hrs total. I had 2 falls through the floor, a couple character pop ins, a floater, etc not great but I've seen much worse on games that got better grading and had crap content. Then comes along 1.02 patch. I've put in over 20hrs on the 1.02 patch. Haven't seen a pop-in, haven't fallen through the floor, haven't noticed any frame rate dips even with large crowds. The only problems that I've experienced with the 1.02 patch was the online gameplay. Getting lag responses from NPCs (dead/not dead/dead/won't die/right in front of you/across them room...) It would typically only happen late in a game session. Not sure why, seems like things may start to desync late in long game sessions. Was it annoying sure, those few games I experienced the issue. Not all game sessions did I experience the issue. Was it a deal breaker? Not IMO. My goal with the co-op was to play through it enough to get my trophies and be done with them. That said, I actually had a heck of a lot more fun with this cooperative online than I ever did with past competitive online on AC games. Reading through on the 0's and 1's ratings, and I'm guessing the majority of them have never played the game, and have only jumped on the hate bandwagon.

The ending is the biggest insult of all, no spoilers, but anyone that has played it will know what I mean. I don't believe anyone should spend money on this game, maybe buy it second hand, because I suspect the market will soon be flooded with copies of AC Unity.

I enjoy the flow of the park-our much more than I had in the past, and the amount of extras in the city alone took up many hours of my time, as I found myself going and completing each zone before doing the main story missions. I did find the characters to be underdeveloped, as Arno was a bland but interesting character in it of himself. The missions were typical AC missions with a few new "twist" on some missions. I did enjoy seeing a companionship occur with the Templar and Assassins until it was broken. I also enjoyed the era it was in, and it felt like a city submitting itself to a revolution.
Sure there is a lot of the same in this game as previous Assassin Creeds, but I enjoyed it, I enjoy the history it included, and the movement and combat seemed a lot more realistic. Arno isn't an unstoppable force as previous assassins, and he had a vendetta to fulfill, which made him seem a bit more human.
Overall its an Assassin Creed game, it sticks to its formula, but achieves it to a decent degree. Not a bad game, but not the best in the series either.

We don't know anything about Arno, we don't know why is killing everyone (I am not going into details), there is almost no story in the game. The brotherhood shown as a bunch of douchebags. Why is Arno an assassin at all? there are litteraly millions of collectibles, half locked under stupid Companion app, another half under some other stuff... Nothing makes sense to me. After playing the game, I sold it. And I am going to replay the story with Ezio once again. And, I am not going to buy Victory. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't buy this game at launch, so many of the glitches had been patched by the time I got to play the game. I guess the glitches are the main reason, why this game's ratings are terrible.

There were still couple of bugs when I played this, but nothing game breaking. The gameplay is a hit and miss. Climbing mechanics are one of the worst of the series. The "controlled descending" was nice, but rest of it was bad. The combat system is pretty average. It is more unforgiving than in the previous games and for the first time in AC series I actually had to avoid combat, since the opponents were too tough. Good for you Ubisoft!

The "memories" or missions were also different from the previous games and to be honest, the freedom of how to kill your targets was a fresh way to change the gameplay. Main missions were good, but I couldn't bother with the side quests. They were too repetitive.

The story was pretty good up until the ending. Arno's and Elise's relationship was great and it really kept me playing through the story quickly. But then the ending was completely predictable and lame. Dark and gritty endings can be good, but not when they are done like this. Around halfway point of the game I already knew that Elise was going to die. If Elise would have lived, then that would have been a surprise ending and a very pleasant one! But now the ending just left a bitter taste in my mouth.

With slightly better mechanics, fewer glitches and with a different ending, this game really would have been a masterpiece...

    - The rain looks terrible compared to Black Flag

Only CERTAIN missions allow multiplayer (Co-Op missions and Heists in particular, which are about 40% or less of all the game's missions.), and to top that off, stealth focused games CAN have multiplayer, if it is done right. If it's stealth focused the team members need to communicate to work together and not screw it up. The only problems I have with this game, is the lack of open-world interaction (Unity's boils down to a dummed down version of Brotherhood's in a way, only you can't do all the cool, fun stuff. Hide underwater, Throw weapons at enemies, attack civilians, tackle Civilians, ledge tackle thieves, pick up enemies' weapons, etc.). The combat system is very basic itself. It's main problems is there's no way to get past the enemies' defenses. You mostly have to wait and parry endlessly until Arno ACTUALLY hit them after blocking so you can get a hit, which depending on your enemy's attack, might not happen much. The battle system needed improvement, but it works, unlike III's which changed all your counters to push-away counter for no reason whatsoever (why that one was in III is beyond me).
Nowadays this game is not as glitchy as it used to be and you do definitely have some glitches, but nearly all of them are minor and don't truly **** with your experience too much, as all the huge bugs have been patched, obviously.
Unity truly stepped up with the parkour aspect, Arno can actually move alot more freely then the past characters (albeit requiring more precision with your control, but nonetheless). Quite a bit of the weapons in the game are spectacularly designed (ie: Flamberge, The Fleur-de-Lys, Sword of Eden, etc.). And the story itself is actually pretty good, not as good as past games, but still. I won't go into full details on it, but unlike other characters *cough*Conner*cough*, Arno actually gets *legasp* development! :oc And back to the co-op part, I find that they should bring back co-op, fora couple of reasons. One, being that it makes the game last a whole ton longer. Think about it, you beat all the Story missions, all the side-missions, all the colelctibles and everything else. What else is there TO DO?? And along comes CO-OP missions and HEISTS. You can bring your friends and HAVE FUN..as an Assassin. Course the only problems the co-op has (aside from some rare glitches, though they can be fixed by leaving the group and re-entering) is that Ubisoft (much like all their other games' online servers) abandon their servers upon creation and quite a few times you can't connect for some reason.
However, my biggest gripe for the game is this: There's a well-designed sword in the game called the Fleur-de-Lys. well, it's in the game, but it was included in the season's pass, which has been done away with. And in late 2015 was put up on PSN and xboxb live as a free separate download. which is good, but yes the XBOX Live download for it is still there, but the link to the sword's download page on PSN redirects to the Unity page. Where it only has the main 4 add-ons along with the Helix Credits packs. : Thus, sword can't be obtained. Would be averted if they'd just put it in an Initiates Chest or something. :
And personally, even with the glitches the game still has, I find this game MUCH MORE enjoyable than III and Black Flag (Black Flag was probably their most falsely-advertised game yet, claiming you can go into taverns and recruit crewmates (which is just you walking to the entrance of a tavern and beating up people and they just randomly join you after you punch them in the face enough times), that you can fully-customize your ship (which you can't even change its name, it stays as a dainty wimpy liitle BRIG, and can only add additional armor guns and parts onto it, and that's it. You can't even change it's class of ship. I don't I was expecting to use I don't know...A galleon..? OR a Man'o'war?? Or at least a Frigate.. :), and the worst part of it was that they said you can finally dual wield! (which is just using a singular weapon slot that counts as a paired weapon, much like Dark Souls 3 does), dual wielding means Way of the Samurai 3 style, or Dark Souls 2 style. Where you can put any weapon in either hand and if you have two weapons equipped, they will be dual-wielded.) Syndicate just basically had the **** combat system and moves (ie: filled with knives, brassknuckles and pistols with just knocking people out with hook punches and knees. Syndicate's Frye twins probably wouldn't even last two seconds against CHILDHOOD Ezio :)

There are a lot of issues with this game. The combat system has been ruined, frames drop constantly, the story loses steam within the first half hour, and don't even get me started on co-op.

It now makes sense why Ubisoft thought it necessary to put an embargo on reviews until 12 hours after it started selling as if they knew it was an unpolished product. Had they themselves believed that AC Unity was up to par then, like Dragon Age, they would have allowed reviews out a week before release. Id say dont buy until when (IF?) Ubisoft fix these issues. I know my copy goes back in 2 days if they arent....

Bugs and frame rate issues are not acceptable at this AAA level. Considering the cost of the game it shows Ubisoft care more for making money than releasing a solid day 1 game.

Let me ask this - Did anyone at Ubisoft actually play their game on PS4 before releasing it?

I ask that seriously - because I am dumbfounded by how it managed to be released in such a poor way. A smooth game locked at 30fps says Ubisoft? I think not. The very first impression I got from this game was one of extreme frustration. There are parts of it when climbing or in large groups

I ask that seriously - because I am dumbfounded by how it managed to be released in such a poor way. A smooth game locked at 30fps says Ubisoft? I think not.

The very first impression I got from this game was one of extreme frustration. There are parts of it when climbing or in large groups of people (and in some places no one at all) where it literally drops to sub 20 and 10 FPS. This makes the game near enough unplayable and certainly not enjoyable. Then a short while later I somehow managed to jump through the floor (??) and ended up having to close and restart the game. Not a good first impression.

Things did get better, the world while huge and beautiful does look a bit underbaked in sections... don't get me wrong, it can be beautiful - very beautiful - at times, but when you look a bit closer and particularly at the NPC's - you begin to realise it is a bit of a pig wearing make-up. On the NPC front - I really appreciate the vast numbers in certain sections of the game - a huge crowd protesting at the gates of a building or at a public event - these really add a lot to the feeling and character of the game - BUT when you're clambering through the streets and there are dozens and dozens of NPC's popping in and out of frame, getting stuck in things and generally getting in your way when trying to run down a street - this becomes stupidly annoying.

Finally the story is nothing to write home about, it is a far cry from others in the serious and tended to stray from what I have become used to over the years. And where has abstergo gone?

All in all - this is another game for current gen that simple has not lived up to the lofty expectations of consumers which has been in part due to our excitement and also what developers tell and promise us.

My advice - avoid this until / IF Ubisoft fix it.

    First Watchdogs and now this?!
First off, the graphics reminds me of Assassins Creed 2 or 3 on ps3 or xbox360 and this should be on Next Gen. Nope. Low graphics.
Also so many glitches like guards getting stuck in walls, flying and other NPC being weird wizards and going weird places. The combat and free-roam/parkour system is also very broken. Fx parkour teleport, poor combat system.

Framerate drops like a dubstep beat even in cutscenes, cutting the frames to 10-15FPS. Choppy gameplay in general.
The story I like, rather good so far but is really buried by this broken game and you dont pay attention to it because you are too busy yelling at the screen in frustration.

    The cons:
    - The framerate is choppy at times (20fps on very rare occasions, feels much more like 30 most of the time) but not unplayable at any stage, most likely down to the amount of characters on screen at once, hopefully this gets fixed soon.
    - Theres quite a few funny glitches and bugs and few that get you stuck on collision and on a few occasions fell through the world, fast travel

    - The framerate is choppy at times (20fps on very rare occasions, feels much more like 30 most of the time) but not unplayable at any stage, most likely down to the amount of characters on screen at once, hopefully this gets fixed soon.
    - Theres quite a few funny glitches and bugs and few that get you stuck on collision and on a few occasions fell through the world, fast travel usually fixes it.
-Graphics fall short when atop buildings and having the vista of paris and all it's complexities.

    The pros:
    - Combat is actually harder, the sweet spot for countering is tighter and the animations from enemies are less suggestive, you have to really be on your toes and use your full arsenal.
    - Fresh setting with the best interiors seen in a third person game.
    - Movement is the most fluid out of all of the creed games.
    - Ascend and descend style of free-running which makes far more sense when getting up to those sync points and wanting to come down fast.
    - Removed the factions, they were fluff in the past games with injected unnecessary story, they made the game feel very arcady.
    - Enemies don't follow you across rooftops but have improved chasing skills on the ground, gives a lot more purpose to rooftops.
    - No more instant win with calling assassins out of no where.
    - Coop is AMAZING, think splinter cell chaos theory but with roles for each assassin, I just wish they were harder than they currently are.
    - Customisation is one of the biggest pluses in this game, you have such a huge array of options, head, chest, waist, hands and legs along with all the different types of weapons.
    - Turn off any HUD element (which can be most of them once you get used to the game).

    The verdict:
Wait around a month for all the bugs to smooth out as it appears that most people overly care about this.
This game is a MUST HAVE in the assassin's creed franchise, it's the most thought out and best designed one since 2. (I prefer it to 2).

As a huge fan of the Assassin's Creed series, especially Black Flag I was expecting so much from this game. Wow...I was disappointed. Ubisoft has managed to mangle everything that was good about this series, and essentially cripple it. Where to begin:

    1. Ubisoft has taken many things away that were fun in previous iterations, most notably: naval combat, recruiting new assassins for the brotherhood and using them while on missions, and they completely got rid of guilds.

    2. Putting assassin skills behind a "pay wall." Who thought this was a good idea? In previous iterations, you essentially earned all your skills naturally through progression. Now you have to pay in game "creed points" to purchase things that you used to have automatically: double assassinations, ability to use ranged weapons, etc. Dumb.

    3. Horrible Control Issues. Somehow they managed to make combat and the parkour WORSE. Arno has a tendency to stick to everything, and not perform jumps properly. Compound this with the new mechanic they added to enter windows which doesn't work 90% of the time. Combat has been saddled with poor balancing. Now, instead of feeling like a dangerous assassin, you feel like target practice.

    4. Too many people on the streets. Look, I get it. You wanted to showcase the power of these systems by dumping a ton of "unique" npcs in the world. The problem is that it's a nightmare now navigating through the streets. When Arno isn't busy bumbling his way up walls and sticking to lampposts and scaffolding, he's tripping over the thousands of inhabitants of Paris. Dial it back a bit, please.

    5. Companion App CHests. Why in the heck am I expected to play a companion app to unlock things in a game I ALREADY PAID $60 FOR?

    6. MICROTRANSACTIONS - Are you serious? I'd like to find the suit that wanted this added and punch him squarely in the balls. This does not belong anywhere, much less a "Triple A" title.

    7. Technical Issues - Those graphics are beautiful...once the textures all pop-in. Oh, and the framerate is downright atrocious. Also, if you're able to connect to Ubi's servers for co-op, the lag is so bad it's almost unplayable.

    8. Boring story and characters. Arno is no Ezio or even Edward. While he's better than connor, he's still pretty bland, as are the other characters in the game. The story is the uninspired and derivative.

The bottom line here is, don't buy this game. It is not worth the money. I wouldn't even waste my time on it if it was a PS Plus Free Game. Ubisoft needs to stop trying to crap out one(now two) of these games a year. The result of their greed is this mess we got stuck with.

Assassin's Creed Unity is as you know the seventh installment inn the long running Assassin's Creed Franchise and i was extremely hyped for this game and to tell you the truth for me it lived up to it.

The game has proved itself a true successor in the franchise it has made remarkable improvements when compared to its predecessors. The games graphics are perhaps among the best ones these days with amazing draw distance and stunning lighting affects and has made richly detailed interiors which are finally fully accessible.
The combat in the game has met with complete redesigning Counter Attack has been completely removed and guards have been made more stronger this i consider a huge improvement because it finally offers a challenge unlike the previous entries honestly speaking back in ACIII I went on one of my.....rampages and after counting all the kills i made it was above 50 and i could still go on and on but by then i got tired same is the case with AC IV in which i killed above 32.But that is not the case here in unity even 4 enemies can give u a very hard time if your'e not focusing similar to the previous entries enemies have classes but even in these classes enemies have levels and with each rising levels it gets harder and you are required to plan your'e tactics even more with the highest ranking being able to fight and dodge just like you and can deal the same or even more damage

Stealth has also seen improvement finally crouch has been added with a new cover mechanic and this combined with the basic stealth killing techniques in the series it's a wonder and something that actually convinces u to try.
assassinations are more dynamic and levels are more non-linear u can approach your'e objective in any way like there is no limitations to how u approach your'e target Take my advise go for stealth if you wanna be less frustrated.
The games AI is amazing it has HUGE crowds who perform different tasks not just the same walking and talking they protest they kill they fight they throw things light fires and support you during fights.

The free running system has also been redesigned and is now more fluid and natural the Story is also intruiging and the main character Arno is really lively and quite what he should be.The side quests have also been MSSIVELY improved it's no repetitive **** as some recent Ubisoft games but each side mission has its own story which can vary from fetch quests to assassinations to discovering things. These side quests basically represent the many stories that took place during the french revolution.Murder mysteries are also there and are quite an addition

The game does have its cons though as it greatly suffers from frame rate drops and huge BUGS although i am ready forgive the frame rate drops although they do hurt the experience but the bugs can be MASSIVE so much that they cannot be ignored.
Co op is also a great addition with levels specifically designed to support teamwork and additional players although you can do them alone but i recommend playing with someone even random people because they can be frustratingly tough if u play alone

Over all Assassin Creed Unity is a thrilling experience if u have a PS4 GO OUT AND BUY IT its worth every penny on this Console

I started this game not long after a trip to Paris and wow, this game recreated Paris so well that I could even compare in-game scenes with pictures I took in the trip.

I have been a fan of the franchise since brotherhood. Black Flag was so much fun that I initially wanted to purchase this game as soon as it was released. The game breaks the third wall and talks directly to the player, which breaks immersion almost immediately. When the person in the game itself tells you that "I like playing online multplayer co-op" and that's why its available to you is just a complete joke. Some new fighting animations are cool but most are broken and dont flow well. Without any spoilers all i will say is the story isn't consistent. Extremely disappointing.
