There's beautiful lighting effects, spectacular buildings and a tremendous amount of AI characters being rendered on screen at once and to top it off it has new character animations and slick new gameplay.

However, throw in frame rate issues, buggy game design, take away the abilities to pick up weapons from the ground and it feels like assassins creed has been stripped of what made it fun.

While this game has potential the technology could have been utilized much better. Oh and how about actually releasing a finished product!

This game is solid no matter what these fools say. Its fun even tho the combat is still way too easy. Graphics are good missions are fun but the bugs are a major detractor. It looks like your animus was attacked by hackers the open world feels good but animations are badly unpolished. I dont understand the need to make a stealth game co-op. Ac fans dont need multiplayer especially co-op.

When it comes down to it, this game is fun and beautiful. Ubisoft realizes whatever missteps it made here, and it is taking some pretty drastic steps (to the tune of free Far Cry 4 for season pass holders!) to make things right.

I saw negative opinions about the game, however, I think the game is one of the best of all time. I guess that beats even The Last of Us. I'm going to talk about the positive points:

    2) care for the dress is amazing, whether of the richest or poorest 3) the amount of people

    3) the amount of people who put on the streets take their game to a level that you know even if there's a revolution about to happen
    4) the interiors of houses or shops are fantastic. Works of art in parts, Golden details, clocks, marble staircases and so on. I've never seen anything like that in a game.
    5) The supporting characters are extremely varied. They range from workers performing their activity, people carrying crosses, or other people. People killed in Barrow. This leads us to think what really was going on at that time.
    6) the amount of gameplay options is incredible. You have several ways of playing. Whether in research, whether in the cracks, either in historical discovery of riddles, is in hot pursuit, is to collect points, is to find and open objects, is to open and manage a new business and so forth. The game not to have options that challenge your ability to think and, for me, this is real game. Not to mention that the game brings a very interesting cultural contribution.

There are several other aspects that I could say here.
I will give a few bugs that has happened 9.5 in others I hadn't seen, but given the ambition of Ubisoft and the quality of the game, I'm going to give you this note. The game deserves 9.5 for sure.

The new movement is great for everywhere except in doors where it's almost impossible to have Arno not run up and hang on the side of some wall and get hacked by enemies. I feel like Ubisoft missed a huge opportunity by not focusing on the French Revolution and instead following a pointless love story with a somewhat 'meh' ending. Assassins Creed 3 is an example of revolutions done right in which you played through vital battles and historic moments.

Other than that, this was actually quite a fun game and I'm probably going to come back to it, the story was a disappointment though and Elise just felt like a distraction from all the more interesting stuff in the revolution.

On top of the technical awfulness, this game just isn't good. The traversal feels more imprecise and unpredictable than ever, the combat feels particularly sluggish and drunken, and the story is a joke. I couldn't even bring myself to play this game for more than an hour at a time (before I traded it in) because there's simply nothing fun about it.

One thing i didn't appreciate was the micro transactions. ÂŁ50 -ÂŁ60 AAA title and they're still trying to milk more money out of you. In the game you're constantly skint. It waves fancy weapons and armour in your face, you run around and do all the side missions (pretty much the only way to make money) and by the time you've done them all you can only really afford one or two decent items.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought Assassin's Creed Unity on launch day, because I've been a faithful fan of the series since the very first game Assassin's Creed in which we follow the story of Altair. Excitedly I slid the disc into my PS4, which I had purchased specifically in order to play THIS game back in December. That's right, almost a full year before. I am that much of a fan. This was my experience:

Graphics: Honestly, I did not see the AMAZINGNESS that some reviews were claiming. Perhaps I don't posses their discerning eye, but I didn't see much of a difference from the graphics presented to me in Assassin's Creed Black Flag. Missing was the weather system I expected, it only occasionally rained for a brief time before clearing up to sunny again. When my character dove into the water, he emerged completely dry. I appreciated being able to see through most windows, and while limited in their diversity, you could go inside most building; whether through an open window or locked door. 2/10

Atmosphere: Crowds. I felt like this was the embodiment of the word in Unity. There were people everywhere, and they clogged up every single street and space on the ground. It made scaling the side of a building and traversing the roof tops far more appealing than having to deal with the feeble jog that Arno would succumb to when he'd push his way in. The city of Paris is massive, and took me several days to completely explore, however I feel like a genuine atmosphere was sacrificed in order to give the lackluster impression of population. The NPCs wander around, sometimes in circles, meander to shops and even hold hands as they traverse the streets. People waved the same head on several pikes, burned effigies in protest, and even threw rotted fruit at the guards. Revolution! I get it. 2/10

AI: There are some aspects here that were very well done, but others that really need some work. You can stand in front of a guard in a restricted area and he will not see you. You can sometimes kill several guards with the hidden blade before any nearby become alarmed. Some NPC baddies seemed to be able to see through walls. I did appreciate the one time I managed to get tattled on by a nearby NPC when he saw me kill a guard and knew where I was hiding. Even pointed me out to another guard who was asking if anyone saw anything. NPCs take the hills if you preform a high profile action such as shooting someone, or killing a guard in crowd cover. So no complaints there. Arno is unable to use his hidden blade as his main weapon, and you can't air assassinate a guard that is aware of your presence. You can air pounce on them, then there is an awkward period when the both of you calmly get to your feet, a pause of several seconds and then engage in combat. 2/10

Sound: This game lacks the music I expected from previous titles. The soundtrack was fantastic in those titles that featured Ezio, which alone told its own sort of story. Sweeping arias, subdued subtle undertones of warning, and blood pumping battle throws...all missing in Unity. There wasn't even any music when wandering about the city, unless you happened across one of the handful of renovated social clubs or that lone guy strumming his guitar. All other audio, such as crowd ambiance, was on a thirty second loop. 1/10

Story: I'm not sure exactly what was happening over in Ubisoft Studios, but someone didn't have their act together when they presented this travesty to their customers. Unity is a love story, not a tale of an assassin let loose on the streets of revolutionary Paris. Arno is in love, and will do everything and anything for it. Including getting himself kicked out of the assassins. What's worse is that once you've completed the 12 story sequences, the developers fail to explain how exactly it is that Arno can continue to work for the assassins and is allowed in their inner sanctum after they remove him from their ranks. There was a stunning lack of depth to Arno, and other than his obsession with his ladylove; had no motivation. Not even a glimmer of interest in investigating the death of his own father that happened in sequence 1. Plot holes abound! 0/10

Multiplayer: I can't say much, I was able to go online for two hours on launch day before getting a PS4 CE-34878-0 error that crashed my game and has continued to do so since. I do know that online connectivity is a must to unlock a great deal of end-game equipment, and so if you are a completionist like myself, you'll find yourself frustrated and annoyed. Ubisoft has been fairly uncooperative in getting this fixed, instead focusing on their also broken companion app. 0/10

Summery: Don't buy this game, unless you're happy paying for an incomplete game. Wait for it to drop in price like Ubisoft stock, and hopefully a majority of the bugs and brokenness will have been fixed. I'm so disappointed in this latest installment of the Assassin's Creed franchise. I've completed the game as much as possible at 89%, and I'm moving on. Sadly.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Well now,

I think its testament to the superb high quality of games nowadays that has unleashed this much gamer fury at Ubisofts latest collect-a-thon.
The bar has been raised pretty high now for these types of games and when its released it had better be ready or every spotted adolescent and his dog will be reviewing the game in anger.

I have played about halfway through the main mission, yet completed most of the other stuff on offer. It’s good to get the café and social clubs up and running pretty quickly for all the cash you receive – but then you feel a bit more apathetic about collecting 100 Franks from all those damn chests.

Features:- So far no horse and ship which is a little disappointing. It would be nice to control a carriage like in RDR or the pirate ship in AC3 or AC4. The missions are generally pretty varied and its good not having to do a “follow someone” mission every ten minutes apart.

Graphics are good and but the frame rate does take a bit of a dive when you are surrounded by guards. - It doesn’t bother me though because I don’t last very long even with the stun/smoke bombs.
Graphic glitches are part of the game with games like these but it hasn’t put me off the game because it doesn’t hinder you much. It’s quite funny sometimes to see a shopkeepers fruits suspended in mid air. Or the pianist standing on his stool while playing. One thing that is common is the spawning of citizens. They will “drop” in from somewhere and often get caught on a fence or table. As I said it doesn’t hinder the game but it is pretty sloppy. I have made a little community challenge of capturing the best glitch. Needless to say there are a lot of entries.

The story is okay so far. (I am still on sequence 6). Although it’s not particularly hard to guess where the plot is going. I wonder if Beethoven is going to dedicate a song to Elise? …and seeing the Marquis de Sade in a game is always going to be interesting.
Unfortunately like Connor before him, Arno’s character isn’t built out so well so far, so it is hard to really care for him, what he is doing, and just the story in general. I am getting pretty pissed at these assassin **** Elise seemed pretty interesting so I am looking forward to those twists.

Sure, the streets are REAL crowded but it feels like revolutionary France so to hell with it. At night and in some districts there perhaps doesn’t need to be that many people, surely? One thing that gets me is while running away through crowds a French guard pursuer nearly ALWAYS hits me in the head from behind killing me. Where was that kind of accuracy in… erm… practically any historic battle the French have ever fought? Joking aside, there are a few tweaks that could have been done here to align the game a bit tidier with previous titles and even the “Shadows of Mordor”. I like the “old capture and grab” that might have worked a bit better so long as the captives buddy’s don’t just shoot through him to get at me. looking at the level of effort that was put into this game thats is perhaps what I would have expected.

All in all, it seems quite fun and worth the money I suppose. Worth all the time? Not sure yet, but not being able to open chests at lock pick level three until sequence 9 will probably put a few completionists off due to the sheer time it will take to revisit those chest areas that you could have taken while doing another mission or task etc.

The Companion app? Well its useful for wasting a few hours while riding to work but that’s about it. It’s a gimmock.

The multiplayer is a little daft considering its a stealth game and that's exactly not whats going to happen.
Fun game but as always doesn't live up to the potential becasue of its rushed schedule to get a new AC game out of the door every year before Christmas. sigh.

The idea of showing you different appotunity and let you decide which way you should approach the mission was great idea indeed. The crime mystery missions were also good new addition. Another element borrowed from batman was the Nostradamus Enigma missions where you start to solve few riddles similar to the ones used to be in Arkham series.

Sadly the game is broke. Too much bugs. Annoying bugs. Game breaking bugs. Companion app sync bugs. Uplay connectivity bugs. Lots of bugs everywhere and almost touch every aspect of the game.

"Joking aside, the graphics, mission structure, co-op focus, and other implementations make this game a step backwards from AC4."

Are you serious? This IS Assassin's Creed, not a naval simulator. I'm thankful that Unity took a step back from ACIV's gameplay. ACIV just felt like a third person Call Of Duty. 1 v 10? Not a problem in ACIV, as you can chain kills with the overpowered counter-kill system. Is that the essence of an assassin? Mowing and plowing down everyone in your way?

Unity felt like a step back to the original Assassin's Creed games, especially to AC1, where there is no counter kill at all, all for a good reason. Mowing and plowing down everyone in your way is fun, but it gets boring after awhile. It also takes away the necessity to buy better equipments *cough* microtransactions *cough* (actually, in ACU you could farm for the items yourself without the microtransactions, pretty easy actually, just complete all Cafe Theatre renovations and missions and purchase all Social Clubs, ta-da! 10,000 livres per 15 minutes, although some are locked until you play Club Competition)

From the stealth perspective, the cover mechanic is a welcome, although unnecessary, addition to the game. The stealth mode (L2 button) introduced into the game is also a great addition to the game, as it enhances stealth playstyles greatly and adds a new dimension to the game.

Ranged-weapon mechanics is a bit of a pain in the a** though. Rifles and pistols have the same range and accuracy. Seriously? The aiming mode is quite buggy too.

The problem with ACU is that you can BARELY Assassinate mission targets that are incapacitated inside smoke bombs if you are already inside a conflict. The targeting system is a bit of a mess imo.

Overall, I'm quite pleased with the gameplay, although some elements can be better implemented *cough* less glitchy *cough*.

I do agree on the graphics being subpar though. They were great during the first few missions, but then they went to crap as the missions progressed. And don't mention the clippings. They're EVERYWHERE (trivia: the epidemic begun from AC Brotherhood). Even in cutscenes. Seriously Ubisoft? At least you can make sure that none of the hoods (I'm looking at you, Legendary Phantom Hood) clip Arno's face so innocenly in one of the most important cutscenes of your game (including the last mission).

The parkour and controls are both good and bad. The good thing is that parkour from high buildings is much easier now as you don't have to slowly climb down a building if you can't find a haystack. This makes ALL the difference. The bad thing is that the "Controlled Descent" system is glitchy. Sometimes Arno would clip inside a wall when descending and clip out again for a brief moment. Overall though, I think the revamped parkour system is a very welcome addition to the franchise, provided that you don't mind playing spidey.

However, the game felt EXTREMELY unpolished. The tutorials are incomplete, the "Database" doesn't have much information (trivia: they have grammatical errors! such a polished game!)

Hell, the e-manual doesn't even tell you how to reload your pistols! I had to spam my DualShock to figure it out (hint: it's L3).

Moving on to the co-op system. As a YouTube user described it:
    "DISCLAIMER:
This trailer is HEAVILY SCRIPTED and does not depict the reality of co-op with your dumbass friends."

The co-op system though, is fairly solid. Even when I played with a guy from UK (I'm in SEA), the co-op session felt lag-less and it was a very fun experience.

And yes, before you ask, the FPS is choppy. Not as choppy people seemed to led me to believe though (20-30 FPS, I thought it was like 10 or 5). Personally, it's a minor problem compared to the other problems.

The story, on the other hand, has potential. But it's just way too compressed. It's basically Assassin's Creed Simulator. Remember how Ezio got 3 titles dedicated just for him (4 if you count Embers). Now imagine those 3 titles are condensed into 1 title. A disaster. An over-compressed piece of junk. Arno went from a womanizer into a homicidal assassin imbued with spidey-abilities bent on revenge in, what, several hours? Main characters has A LOT OF POTENTIALS, but Ubisoft deems it necessary to kill them off in a few missions after they were introduced. The missions are basically "Kill Target A". Done. Hell, the First Civilization became a minor footnote/reference in this title! Where's the conspiracies we AC fans love?

I don't usually appreciate stories being dragged out, but I feel that this story needs to be dragged out. Let us enjoy the appetizer before proceeding to the main course. Hell, you could make even more money than micro-transaction!

Overall, a dirty-ass impure diamond-ore that has not been refined into actual diamond. It's dirty, it's muddy, but when you look at the potentials of it, you'll be astounded as to why Ubisoft rushed its refinement

I'm a fan of the Assassin's Creed series and played every part so far. But to be honest, Unity is even more worse than the first title of the series. The good thing is that all fights are more difficult now, but if you are not able to react because of the bad controls and the frame rate issues, you get really annoying.

So, for all AC fans out there: Just skip this one and play Rogue, its the better one

Unity are gorgeous, Paris is beautiful with lots of things to do, BUT the 900p on PS4 is disappointing, I would gladly trade half of those 5000 unnecessary low-poly-count crowds for the higher 1080p reso. Black Flag looks way sharper and more detailed. Don't get me wrong, I love the new engine, just hope next main Assassin game will be 1080p on PS4. Expand

They are French which explains why when they see some bugs instead of fixing them they just surrender and give up just like how they surrendered to Hitler, and explains how the Germans took their country over in just 2 weeks during World War 2. The French are a disgrace to the human race and this game will unfortunately sell well, when it deserves to be shoved up any French womans wizard sleeve.

The ending is the biggest insult of all, no spoilers, but anyone that has played it will know what I mean. I don't believe anyone should spend money on this game, maybe buy it second hand, because I suspect the market will soon be flooded with copies of AC Unity.

Graphics aside, this game is a masterpiece! The setting of Paris in the French revolution is a setting that I have always wanted to see in an AC game, and Ubisoft have pulled it of (I AM NOT AN AC FANBOY, I HATED AC4). The city of Paris is brought to life with amazing architecture and massive crowds of people. No matter where you go, Paris feels alive in every way. The game is filled amazing locations like the Notre Dam cathedral with massively detailed interiors/exteriors. There are tonnes of massive buildings/houses that you can enter which are all alive in their own way. Everywhere you go in Paris something is happening. Some areas in Paris are posh, laid back and have a very happy vibe to them, but some areas of Paris are filled with violent peasants getting causing chaos and starting massive riots. It is a shame that some people can't appreciate a game where you can walk around a city from the past without any restrictions, just the idea of that gives me chills. I free roamed in this game for hours on end totally immersed in the setting. A game where you play as an awesome assassin set in the fully alive city of Paris during the FRENCH REVOLUTION! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD? 10/10- A MASTERPIECE

The glitches and bugs are incredibly rampant, with character models flying all over the place and cut audio appearing in and out at random times. I've had to leave the game numerous times to be able to finally free my character from the window that they had somehow fused into. Multiplayer in this game is also where you can find an abundance of glitches and the occasional frame-rate nose dive. I've had the game go from 27 fps to 15 fps within the blink of an eye and stay there for more then 3 minutes. I've also had missions FORBID THEMSELVES from letting my friends and I complete said mission, a prime example of this would be a mission were you have to take out snipers within buildings before a characters chariot comes between their cross-hairs. The mission INTENTIONALLY makes it so that once you've taken out at least 8 of the 9 snipers, the last sniper disappears from existence, and your left looking at the bar that says "8 Out Of 9 Snipers Eliminated" until you restart the mission again and hope that the game is in a forgiving mood. The story of this game feels like a french version of ACII, and in no way does it improve upon it or give you a memorable character like ACII did. The only thing this game seems to do right is the combat system, but about 2/3s of it is still BS. They took away the mechanic were you were able to turn any enemy into a meatshield when an enemy was about to shoot you, so now, every time you fight a group of enemies, you have to either roll around and move like an autistic child on a sugar high to avoid being shot, and even WITH that, you still get hit. The enemies AI seems to have also taken a massive amount of steroids, because the difficulty enemies present now is even more then that of all previous AC games enemies combined. So enjoy dying a lot. Overall, I'm glad a friend lent me this game, because I would have regretted this purchase till the day I died Expand

Unity is not a bad game, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it advances the series very much, especially for the first title in the series to be a fully next-gen game.
