The game is very similar to ac2, the new parkouring system is fantastic and after the new patch the frame rate problems and bugs are gone it is an amazing game

In Unity, Ubisoft have delivered a beautiful game with a compelling story which helps it to become one of the stand out chapters of the series in recent years. Once the glitches and bugs had been ironed out, Unity plays very well with just the odd glitch rearing its head. Often the parkour can be slightly clumsy but the depth of gameplay and detail in Paris more than makes up for the negatives.

I warmed to Arno eventually and, whilst he isn't as likeable as Kenway or Ezio, he does have his charms and I hope to see more of his story in future AC games.

The lack of 'modern world' levels in this chapter of the AC series means that the underpinning lore doesn't progress much further than it reached in Black Flag and Rogue but this is refreshing. Ubisoft have produced a game you will love whilst leaving the door open for an exciting new chapter in the AC universe.

I love Black Flag so this has been disappointing. Graphics are amazing, city is amazing, Forcing multiplayer is an annoyance and low. The game mechanics are not as user friendly as black flag. Bunch of glitches. It's a bummer of a follow up for the masterpiece that Black Flag was. I wish they'd do some upgrades to improve.

This game is kinda terrible. I've been playing it for two days in story mode and it was good (sort of) but some stuff were awful: There are many lags, the fps will drop sometimes, the combat is harder, and the jumping is bad. I think it's one of the worst games of 2014... Sorry Ubisoft, you failed this time.

While Assassins Creed: Unity has really bad optimization on next-gen consoles, the gameplay is spot on.

Keeping it short, if you have played any AC games before and loved combat and stealth, this game is definitely what you want in AC. The story isn't short, and you will find yourself grinding getting F money and Creed Points on the side for customization.

Story itself would have been way more immersive if it wasn't for the Abstergo and Animus storyline on the side, which thankfully doesn't peak into gameplay constantly like other AC games do.

Combat is really fun, and all classes of weapons are all unique and fun to use. Stealth is easy to understand, and fun most of the time.

Assassinations in the story are fun to play, giving you the option of killing everyone in sight or playing stealthy and finding your target first.

What really hurts this game on both PS4 and Xbox One is that the frame rate is constantly dipping in areas of Paris which are very populated, and on certain occasions coming from nowhere.

While I constantly try and tell people that they shouldn't expect much from the annual formula that is Assassins Creed, this time around, for the first time since Assassins Creed 2, I got 100% on the game and finished the free Dead Kings expansion on the side, which was also fun.

I give Assassins Creed: Unity an 8.9/10

But I did not play it as soon as I got home. When the first reports of bugs, glitches and so on started to take the internet by storm, I decided to wait, let it be patched and give it a try. And I really have to say I love, I absolutely love this game after it's been patched. The fact that I'm very into the French Revolution helps a lot, but I did enjoy my time with ACU and do think of it as one of the best ones in the franchise. Is it a perfect game? No way, absolutely not.

Being the first AC on the new generation, I expected to see some flaws. But the overall experience makes up for it in my opinion. The game is gorgeous, the atmosphere, the characters (I really liked Arno, sue me). And the simplified mechanics worked for me as well. Just like the first AC games, we have a city, a huge, beautiful city, as a playground with tons, TONS of stuff to find / do / decipher etc. Both side quests and main quests keep the experience fresh as you climb your way towards becoming an important pillar in the revolution - and the addition of the co-op (although occasionally broken) missions are a breath of fresh air. So, yes, this is a great game, and one that needs to be played and enjoyed.

Now to the bad stuff. And I concentrate "bad" in one particular thing: Ubisoft's greed. ACU is, by far, the most Assassins Greed ever. And I feel offended, as a gamer and as a consumer, to pay extra dollars to acquire either points or gear or whatever. Basically, they created a system in which we can pay to progress faster. If you don't want to go through all the content in the game (quests, missions, co-op missions) you can just pay your way to the top. This sucks and I really hope no one gave in to this. This must end here. Period.

And, also, this whole "companion app" thing? Give up, Ubisoft. Nobody got time for that and locking content for those who won't play a smart phone app is lame as hell. It's "free", yeah, but there is also a "premium" version. So my biggest problem with Ubisoft is this attitude.

Assassins Creed Unity is an incredible game, one that kept me entertained for hours and hours - and for the 1st time I intend to play the extra chapters. Ubisoft just needs to get real and start listening to what consumers are saying about this nefarious DLC culture.

The only somewhat fun thing I found was the gear customization and all the different weapons to play with. Unity is based during the french revolution. People are protesting, soldiers are killing etc. The most impressive thing about this game was the number of people in crowds yelling and fighting. This is quickly put at the fore front of problems with this game when you try to move your character. Nothing about is is smooth. It is one chug after another. Ubisoft went on record saying that they fixed all the annoying movements from poor control mapping. This is 100% false. It is worse than ever. You try to climb up, your character moves sideways. You try to go through a window and you end up climbing past it. It is just terrible. In Ubisoft's defense, it would be almost impossible to top black flag, but the infuriating part was THEY DID! But only for last gen consoles. ARE YOU KIDDING ME! The defining moment for The Assassin's creed franchise and they put the OBVIOUSLY much better game with the much better engine on the much worse consoles! WHAT!? And to make it all even worse is the absurd amount of micro-transactions you would have to do to even finish the game 100%. I paid 60 bucks for this game, and now you are telling me that in order too experience everything i have to spend 5 dollars here and five dollars there. Then they want you to download the companion app witch is totally backwards. Why in the hell would you work so hard creating a game that is supposed to submerge the player in the story and setting to just yank them out of it completely all so they can open blue chests. Wow....... I know this was supposed to be a review but they have already stolen enough of my time and hard earned money. Do yourself a favor and stick with Far Cry 4 or buy a last gen console if you dont still have one and play rogue. Expand

The quality of the game is just low to be considered a next gen game when you look at the characters and people filling this world. However the world itself is beautiful (the buildings and environment) but it failed to be perfect because of the glitch and choppy issues involving characters. Additionally the loading time takes a century. The story is just bad written, a lot of plot holes and assumptions that avoid players to attach to the main character or whatever it was happening. The multi player is just another failure since it takes a lot to find a matching session and you both need to reach the same goal, it is not easy to organize and make it fun to really play it as a team. The really had a good chance to make this a master piece, since they improved the parkour system and stealth system substantially and the European setting is my favorite, even tough I have enjoyed this game more than AC IV. As an overall if you find this game in discount you should give a try, you may have some fun.

Here is my review for the PlayStation 4 version of Assassin's Creed Unity:

Background and Coverage --> I have played Assassin's Creed, Assassin's Creed 3, and Assassin's Creed Black Flag. I will cover the main game, as well as the Dead King's DLC. Also, please keep in mind that this game is judged after the initial patches which, in my opinion, made Assassin's Creed Unity playable.

Story --> Unlike previous Assassin's Creed games where there was relevance to both the Assassins's tale and his/her real-life corrupt corporation story-line, Unity focuses primarily on the Arno Dorian's life, whose biological and adopted father get killed. It covers a number of clichés that typically appear in a "revenge" story, which includes a lover, a couple of interesting characters, and a few twists that will keep you invested long enough to go through the single-player story at least once. It is not as good as Assassin's Creed Black Flag when it comes to story-telling, but it is still very enjoyable.

Sound --> The game's sound design really represent France during the French Revolution. It is common to hear people bickering, accordion music playing in the background, a few cries for help whenever they are being mugged or harassed. The voice-actors also do a great job in bringing their characters to life, with a particular shout-out to Dan Jeannotte, who voices the game's protagonist (Arno).

Graphics --> There has been a lot of controversy about the game's initial release and a few of the reasons for it surfaced throughout my experience. The game has crashed a couple of times towards the end of the game and there were a few irritating glitches that occurred during pivotal moments in the game. In fact, that is my main gripe with Assassin's Creed Unity -- I, as an Assassin, can climb buildings with ease, but when it comes to jumping over a goat or climbing into a room, I experience some issues. In addition, there were a few instances where I would jump from the top of building while aiming at a stock of hay, but my player would completely miss it and I would die. With all of that being said, they do not occur very often and the game is still good. Now, I must talk about the overall graphics. The first and only game that truly wowed me with its graphical fidelity was Killzone Shadow Fall. That is, until I got my hands on Assassin's Creed Unity. My jaw dropped the floor when I saw the facial animations and the smoothness of the parkour (although at times annoying) and the environment are absolutely stunning. Personally, this is a show-case game simply for its graphical aspect.

Gameplay --> If you have played an Assassin's Creed game, then you know what to expect with Assassin's Creed Unity. If not, then your experience will include parkour movement, a large amount of main/side missions, improvised moments where you either have to kill enemies or chase after a thief, and a few references to historical figures, which include Napoleon. You can either play it stealthy or go Rambo-style, but I would not recommend the latter, especially at the beginning. Your skills and equipment can be upgraded by doing the aforementioned missions and participating in co-op multi-player, which is easily the best part of the game. You can do two types of missions (typical missions with clear objectives that normally revolve around killing a certain individual and Heists missions) with up to four people and the first time that you sync a four-player assassination will get your adrenaline running and make it seem as if you accomplished something truly special. When glitches do not get in your way, the gameplay is spectacular and it is the reason why Assassin's Creed Unity is simply a fun game with which you mess around.

Longetivity --> Assassin's Creed Unity's replayability will depend on (a) your tolerance to re-play the co-op missions and/or (b) do them with friends. There is not much to do in the game once you clear the story-mode and the side missions (which could take you a while -- I am still trying to complete everything). Therefore, if you like the co-op missions and would like to pop the game in once in a while to do a heist or an assassination mission, then I would certainly keep the title in your collection.

Dead King's DLC --> If you already chose to buy the game, you might as well download this piece of DLC. It is free, and it adds some cool missions, a new enemy type and equipment. The story adds to Arno's personality and I enjoyed the four-hour add-on to the original game. I have to point out an area of the map that is only available in the DLC -- the catacombs. They are extremely annoying. Enemies typically re-spawn in order to fill-out the void in the map, but the frequency in which they do it here is ridiculous. This is just a pet-peeve and, as frustrating as it is, it doesn't detract from the overall experience.

Overall --> Purchase at a minor sale-price ($40). Glitches aside, it is a fun game for the PlayStation 4.

Obviously they put in all the different kind of collectibles for people like me. But they made it so hard to collect all the things to get to 100% you just get mad. After I found all the possible chests in the game I figured there would be a great reward. Nothing. After finishing all the murder missions (oh how they get on your nerves after a while, so just get a wiki and finish them off quickly) I wasn't left satisfied at all.

Now Dead Kings if available, but I don't even have the energy to check it out anymore. It's all too much and too big. I hope that they will reduce the size of the game and instead improve on their gameplay and think a bit more about how to satisfy different types of players.

I wish I just played the story mode and left it there. Bigger isn't always better, and Assassin's Creed Unity proves that.

I don't really have much good to say about this game besides the amazing graphics, atmosphere, and detail that was put into Unity. After the short lived "wow" factor, I quickly realized that the free-running parkor system was seriously broken. Arno never seems to go where you want. Running on the ground is frustrating because your character will run up random things all the time. Moving from point to point is more of a chore than anything else. Trying to enter any windows will climbing walls is more difficult than it should be. I enjoy the new controlled descent feature they have added but getting up to a certain point can be frustrating due to the unresponsive controls.

Well the story missions are nice as are the cutscences. Some of the Paris stories are nice as well but that is about where it ends. Murder mystery, Nostradamus riddles, and collecting treasure chests are all a chore. There is nothing enjoyable about these missions. Helix rift missions are cool the first time you do it but then become a chore as well. They say they have a new and improved combat system but there is really nothing new besides the enemies having a health bar. You have a few new moves but nothing to write home about.

The only bright spot out of all this is the co-op missions (even if at times very buggy) as well as the clubs. A shell of the game it could have been. It lacks innovation besides the co-op feature. I appreciate the attention to detail and history but when the main game is lacking in any fun content it's hard for me to enjoy the atmosphere as much as I would like to.

If I was to sum up this game in one word it would be: chore. Nothing fun, nothing innovative, and just a grind through all the content so I can move on to something better. A shame really after how much fun black flag was. I will be holding off on any assassin creed purchases in the future as should the rest of you. Also, I can't really recommend this game because there is nothing fun or worth while that you have't already seen from a Creed game.

The gameplay is much better than AC4 and Rogue as is the story. The story is far more focused on Arno and his relationship with Elise than the assassins. The revolution setting is good but also seems like it missed some great opportunities with the story so heavily focused on the young couple and their personal quest.

The two bugs that I encountered where when performing drop assassination Arno would simply drop onto the target then get up without performing the assassination, the other was him not being able to attack, parry or dodge during combat which could be undone by going completely anonymous. I came across both bugs fairly often.

The skillpoint system mostly requires you unlock abilities that where a given or earned early on in past games and seems like a missed opportunity to add in some true innovation to the assassins abilities. Scattering points around coop maps to be found seemed silly and a way to force players into making use of the multiplayer mode.

The paris stories and murder mystery side quests are good and welcome addition instead of just the plethora of collecting items that was stuffed into the last few titles in the series even though those collection items are still present.

Overall I would say after the patching this is the best in series since Brotherhood, the writing is far better than Ac3,revolution,4 and Rogue. Arno and Elise are the best characters of the last few games and I hope they make a return to the series.

But Unity was so poorly put together it has left a long lasting sour taste in my mouth. It's original problems have largely been fixed; the crashes, the online matching for multi player. But the little things that still ruin the game's experience continue. Mostly, I encounter issues with online. Enemies that won't spawn, but somehow still attack you. It's frustrating to see your character die from attacks you can't even respond to. The character will himself freeze up, failing to respond to attacking enemies. He just stands there holding his sword, but won't run, won't attack, won't shoot. Another continual problem I come across is the NPC's in certain missions, like "Women's March" will freeze up. In this mission you have to escort and defend two allies. The mission won't continue to the next objective until they reach their destination, but they just stop walking and won't move. "The Tournament" is another multi player mission that routinely fails. Multiple enemies are supposed to attack you in the third objective but they're invisible...

All in all, it's still a good Assassin's Creed game. the entire franchise has had moments where it could have been better. I've actually screamed at the TV when Ezio would leap off a building when I gave the command to run along the roof. But it's always been a great franchise. Unity could continue this trend, if only Ubisoft would fix these constant bugs and glitches. Or, even better, if they had taken the time before release to get it right the first time.

Im sad... When I heard that they took out the naval warfare I think it could be a great idea... BUT when they ruined the game with all the COOP crap forced down your throat I almost cried.
The way you fight now is so stupid you cant choose which weapon you wanna use anymore and the guards has the 100% hit rate on pistols and when you fight and you dont have the time to dodge and where is

The way you fight now is so stupid you cant choose which weapon you wanna use anymore and the guards has the 100% hit rate on pistols and when you fight and you dont have the time to dodge and where is the fun in that DODGING!! Where is the human shield that was cool now it sucks! And why OH WHYYYY! must everything be a Massive Multiplayer CRAP! let me choose if i want to play multiplayer and be reminded every F****** where i go that I could join and get help... well maybe I dont wanna play with others... and if I did maybe I would be able to go to the menu and choose F****** Multiplayer like there has been in almost every other game... I have so much hope everytime you release one of your Assassins Creed games... and mostly I have been happy with it... but this! Im sad. I was interrested in the story not the difficulty of the game... Where is the fun in that you have to be spotted first before you can get them near a wall or a bench or something... Thats stupid.
And why must I pay all that money for a game that has F****** in game puchase... WTF!!! Is this Farmvile? Please make it better next time.... because it was the best francise EVER at one moment... Make me happy again.

This game isn't the worst game I've ever played, but it is not good. Simply put, if you are an Assassin's Creed fan looking for a new game, buy Rogue! Die hard Assassin's Creed fans might be able to get passed Ubisofts Yearly release of what I call a $60 beta, but not me! I have well over 10gb (I lost track of the exact number after 10) of updates and patches clogging up my hard drive to fix the issues that should have been fixed before this game was put on that poor Blu-Ray disc. I plead for ubisoft to take at least a year and a half on these games and stop charging us full price to experience the beta. I'll gladly allow Ubisoft to pay me, to test for bugs pre release! Expand

Assassin's Creed Unity can only be noted competent after the late patch implementations; prior that, it was a mess. Simply put, if I were to compare this game with others in the franchise, I could easily tell you this is a better game than Revelations and AC3. However, this game lacks something the others have: relevance. Simply put, if I were to compare this game with others in the franchise, I could easily tell you this is a better game than Revelations and AC3. However, this game lacks something the others have: relevance. This game's plot serves no purpose to the Assassin's Creed franchise. You could well skip this game and not have missed a thing; it's filler. The thing is, Ubisoft could've gotten away with that, but the story is only average at best.
The game is impressive to look at; Paris is easily the most beautiful, immersive, and detailed city in the series. The game's protagonist, Arno, is a charming character, and there are TONS of things to do, it'll make your head hurt if you have a bit of OCD for getting things to 100% at once. The combat and parkour have been changed to accomodate players who want a bit more complexity and challenge, and I say these are very welcome. Animations seem organic; The player's body behaves and reacts accordingly to its surroundings more naturally than ever. From a gameplay standpoint, Unity is one of the best in the series.
However, one cannot wash off the taste of a bad launch, one cannot shake the feeling that it all feels disconnected, as if the time invested in these characters is pointless and not worth of your time. Assassin's Creed has lost its touch of brilliance in story-telling, it has gone from mouth-opening revelations and cliffhangers to a cliche and generic formula, which is a shame. Last year's Black Flag already suffered of this, however Black Flag's saving grace was its consistency, cohesiveness, and its all-around fun gameplay. Unity feels more like a chore rather than an inviting fun experience. It's the best looking AC game yet, its got solid mechanics, but in the end it's the way it was poorly handled and the way it contributes nothing to the series' story that makes it all feel like a waste of time for the true fans.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Assassin's Creed Unity is an unfinished game that was rushed out. There are so many bugs and glitches in the game and it felt like it was running under 30 fps. The story was just boring and it doesn't make any sense at all. Co-op is terrible!! I could never join my friends in a mission and if you join a public match, players could get you killed easily. The only thing I liked about this game is that missions are more difficult from the previous games and enemies are a lot tougher so it gives you a challenge. Overall Assassin's Creed Unity is a copy and paste game with more bugs and glitches Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After 4 patches, this game has much less performance issues now, finally playable.

Though it's story background is the French Revolution, it barely has nothing to do with it. The whole story is only a revenge, and all what brotherhood did was just to stay out of the revolution. Remember the first CG trailer? I used to thought the main story is about how the brotherhood would help push the revolution. When I played the game, I found that it was nothing but my illusion…
I'm really appointed about the story.

As for the gameplay, it was actually pretty fun, side missions have various interesting stories.
But the biggest problem is taking cover, you have to leave current cover to get around the corner, even Watch_Dogs could do that better.

It's not worth my expectation, but still a not bad game, I'd give a 7 out of 10.

This is my first review, I own Ac:Unity on ps4, the game brings nothing new in comparison with the versions for older consoles, except for the great graphics

    The Good
    +Beautiful city
    +Customization
    +Accurate historical events
    +Napoleon
    +Graphics
    +Nice voice acting in French

    The Bad
    -Combat mechanics are flawed
-The Characters feel empty even though the story is full of blood thirsty personal vendettas
-Customization. In previous games you had all the assassin powers, now you need to buy them, also the micro-tranzactions that fuel the in-game currency needed to obtain gear if you don't want to unlock some fancy pants or a sword/pistol.
-The unlockable content (non-dlc) feels useless, and takes a lot to unlock hence Enigmas
-Only one city. Compared to other AC franchise games, Unity has only one city and 2 regions (without DLC).

    The Ugly
    -U Play
-The Companion app. Uses the same formula like any other freemium game on the mobile market, pay to not wait, pay for in-game currency
    -Locked content (U-Play, companion app)
-the feeling of an unfinished game that fails to deliver what it hyped people about
    -DLC
    -Crowd dynamics
-Extremely bad voice acting in English because of the mixture of accents, the brigands seem to inherit very raspy cockney accents.

Let's be honest; the release of AC Unity was a disaster! However once Ubisoft released the 4th patch, the game functions as well as any previous AC title; the gameplay is almost exactly the same as in AC4, and AC3. This game is nothing new. If you're love Assassin's Creed, then you'll enjoy playing Unity, but if you're looking for the "revolutionary new AC" that was promised by Ubisoft,Let's be honest; the release of AC Unity was a disaster! If you're love Assassin's Creed, then you'll enjoy playing Unity, but if you're looking for the "revolutionary new AC" that was promised by Ubisoft, then it's not your game.
The reason I give it a 7 and not 6 is because the game is play-able, and I personally liked how Ubisoft at least did a good job with re-creating the atmosphere of Revolutionary France; especially all the old gothic cathedrals like the Notre Dame, and other French landmarks like the Louvre, right down to the slums. The atmosphere is nice IMO. Even if they missed the mark on improving the game's other features, primarily combat, they're still the same as the past two games and the controls work just the same. Patch No.4 also fixed 99% of all frame-rate issues I was having on PS4.
It's also worth noting that Ubisoft did try to think outside the box a little; the murder mysteries are a nice addition, and some of the main & co-op missions are re-creations of actual events so, if you're a history buff like me, you'll enjoy those little things. Co-op missions can be played solo too, which I liked. All in all, AC Unity was not the game we were hoping for. Now with the free DLC, even a casual AC fan should pick this up at a discount, if only to see for yourself! Finally after its patches, AC Unity is not the broken half-baked game it was when it first came out, that's for sure! It runs fine on PS4, and even if it's not revolutionary, it is AC in The French Revolution! Certainly not a ground-breaking game. At the very least, it's another open-world for AC fans to play in.

An excellent and huge game. The positives are emphasized by detailed world that seems more alive now than ever before.

Unity is not a bad game, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it advances the series very much, especially for the first title in the series to be a fully next-gen game.
