i bought this game just last week and expected more from it. i don't like it. i will not say it's a bad game but it's just not my type of game that's why i gave it a 5. i find it boring, sometimes it takes long to actually know where you are and what you must do and where you must go.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I don't think I need to explain why people love this game. It's gripping. It's intense. It's downright terrifying. The alien is unpredictable and lethally good at murder. It's the first in a long line of supposed "scary" games that actually reaches the point of being actually scary. The game looks absolutely beautiful, and perfectly captures the feel of the original Alien movie. Sevastopol looks right at home in Ridley Scott's universe, with retro 80s sci-fi that looks ripped straight out of the movie. The sound design is top-notch, and the game absolutely MUST be played with headphones if possible. Not earbuds; pure over ear headphones. The sounds in this game are incredible, and you can hear every tiny detail in the environment, from pipes bursting with steam to your own cautious footsteps, to the footsteps that are definitely not your own creeping up behind you. Every tiny detail of this game is absolutely stunning, and great care has been taken to make it look genuinely like you're playing the movie.

    HOWEVER

All of the praise I have for the game applies strictly to the first half of the game, because the second half is absolutely nauseating. The game should have ended hours before it actually did. The instant the alien leaves the scene, the game falls quickly from the dizzying heights of awesomeness down to the disgusting, putrid and torturous depravity that I genuinely had to fight with myself just to complete. Once the androids start becoming the main enemy of the game, it becomes an absolute slog, and I didn't enjoy a single bit of getting throttled constantly by 5 different androids that obviously I can't shoot because that would be too easy. Also I can't EMP them because that would also be too easy.

The second half of the game is an absolute nightmare, and not in the way the first half is. It's boring, it's repetitive, and the game just refuses to just stop and end properly for a good 6 to 8 hours after it should have. 6 to 8 hours of horrible android tedium that, despite how much I adore the first half, definitely ruins the overall experience for me. I will never, EVER go through the second half of the game again. I actually get angry whenever I think about the second half again, because of how atrocious it was, and how difficult it was for me to just drag myself kicking and screaming through the entire thing.

Thank Christ the alien comes back eventually to alleviate some of it, but in the end despite everything the game does beautifully right, I can't ignore how awful the experience of the second half was for me, and as much as I want to give the game a higher score, I just can't, because of what it did to me.

So, if you're looking to play the game for the first time, here's some advice: play the first half, and when you pull an Ellen Ripley on the alien, just stop. The game is no longer worth playing. You will have a better sense of closure than anything the game could produce afterwards.

Unfortunately, they completely ruined the game from being fun by turning it into a tedious fetch quest on a space ship. Basically, you spend the whole game being told "get this generator. Push this lever, go to room C. Ok Go back and push the lever". I'm not kidding when I tell you that this is the gameplay. They throw in an alien in the middle while you do this repeatedly. It gets old really fast...

The game was trash to be honest. Don't believe me? Go ahead, you'll get suckered in and enjoy the first 3 hours and after that....well... I told you so.

Its not awful but it certainly isn't good. The atmosphere started out as very scary and i was anxious and excited to meet the alien. The graphics are ok, not as good as some next gen but better than ps3. But then i had to use stealth. I like stealth games. But when enemies start to see you and say you make a noise when you were well hidden and standing still is really frustrating. IIts not awful but it certainly isn't good. I appreciate the fact that your human ingame and not invincible but you die way too easily. The fact you have to load a past save and cant save anymore is so frustratingly dated that its a wonder it was even used. The game is too unforgiving for little mistakes you make (and dont make) that doing things that took yoh a long time over and over when you get caught by the Alien makes it not very fun at all. I do not reccommend this game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The first 1/3 of the game was epic and you were led to believe that there was better coming... then you realise it's just a repetitive game with no substance that was dragged on for way too long.

The game can really be resumed into: Run to boiler room to push lever. Oh wait lever is broke so go Get booster pack first....now go back to boiler room...open door... oh wait, you cant go through yet, theres no electricity...go push another lever.... ON AND ON AND ON AND ON..... NON stop!!!

The game got extremely tedious and disapointing, I even finished it trying to see maybe if the story could deliver... but THERE WAS NO ENDING!!!
Were you expecting a conclusion with some talking? A single scene? ANYTHING??? Nope.... NOTHING happens AT ALL.

The gameplay is a serious repetition of going to a room and pushing levers.... I'm not joking!! This gameplay was CHAINED repetitively.. there was absolutely NO deviation from it... As soon as you got to a Lever... the mission asked you to go push another lever.

Huge disapointment for me as the first 30 minutes, you think the game's gonna be so epic.... After the first 2-3 hours... just stop playing, I swear you've seen everything the game has to offer... there's not even a story to entice you... you will be disapointed as there was no story at all.

Don't get me wrong it is cool to see all the Alien the movie style of analogue tech in a computer game. The game is is ok when facing off against humans and kind of fun when facing off against androids. At least the player has a fighting chance against those foes they can be killed/destroyed.

The clunky UI makes the player move like a geriatric. Yeah I get the limited save options at certain points was to create a certain amount of extra tension. As opposed to save anywhere at any time, but I found it just time wasting annoying and cheap when dying to the instant kill, god mode, cheat teleporting Alien.

Every games seems to need the obligatory crafting element these days, but it makes sense in a survival game using makeshift gear. Just throwing the very limited survival resources at the invulnerable Alien in god mode was a pointless drain. I only found the flametrhower the best quick fix to shoo the gawd damn thing(s) away anyway.

A missed opportunity for a really great game let down by really bad and cheap Alien game design.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I signed up on Metacritic just so I could educate my fellow gamers on this over-hyped nonsense. So please, stay far, far away from it. Let me begin with the positives:

Graphics: Quite fantastic. Lighting effects are smashing, along with smoke, fire and water. The way everyone casts a realistic shadow and the design of the Alien, humans and robots are stellar. But sometimes, you'll see a bolt made up of four polygons or a weapon floating in the air. Regardless, it looks incredible.

Sound: incredible, perhaps the best sound design in a modern game. The Alien thumps around, hissing and slithering just like in the films. And those with Dolby Surround will know exactly where it is based on the direction of the game audio. Soundtrack is sparse and drives the terror home like a rusted nail through your finger.

Gameplay: horrendous. Alien: Isolation is a survival horror game like Outlast or Amnesia. So in other words, you're powerless for 99% of the game, barring those rare situations when you're loaded up with ammo, which is almost never, save for specific plot points. The game, as it begun, recommended that I played on hard, which was the highest difficulty and was "the only way to experience the game" it told me. Liars.

What followed was 40 hours of frustration. Alien: Isolation is a game that could have been cut in half as it drags with endless fetch quests, punctuated by a teleporting Alien that knows exactly where you are, unless you hide for minutes at a time, which drastically slows down the gameplay and after 5-10 hours of hiding, the concept grows stale. You can't distract the Alien, it'll pinpoint your location and kill you. You can't outrun it, it'll find you and kill you. And you most certainly cannot kill it.

"So what's the issue? I like it like that." Wrong - no one sane likes it like this. The Alien seems to teleport from one location to another, seemingly able to find you by glitching to your spot. It's pretty unfair. When you're trying to run away from the Alien and androids (who can be killed but are best avoided because they're bullet sponges) get in your way, you're dead again. There's no flow to Alien: Isolation because it's a constant cycle of backtracking. Push a button and oh, the powers off. Better return back to where you were five minutes ago to restore the power, while avoiding the Alien again. Fun? No. This happens constantly and near the end of the game, becomes an insanely frustrating chore as the manual save points are spaced so far apart. That's right. You can only save manually (which I actually enjoyed as it heightens the terror). But again, and after hours of this concept, it grows shockingly stale.

Speaking of terror, there is none. Everyone knows the look and design of the Alien by now, so there's really little to shock. It's become such a pop culture icon that it's seen like a cartoon character. It's kill animations are canned so you'll see the same one again and again. The single jump scare I had was when my roommate screamed as a high-speed train whizzed by.

Oh, and get used to crawling everywhere. Since the Alien has supersonic hearing, even walking will alert it to your presence. I bet that Alien: Isolation really only takes under 8 hours to finish if you'd be able to sprint.

One thing redeems it and that's a "cameo" of sorts by Ripley's mom. It saves it from getting a 2/10.

Being forced to crawl, having to follow mindless objectives that bear no fruit and not having any fun. If that's your idea of a great game then go ahead and grab Alien: Isolation. It boggles my mind how these reviewers managed to give this game such polished scores. The game is technically sound, I certainly can't fault it there but the gameplay is archaic and any serious gamer looking for a fun challenge won't find it here. Only endless, ENDLESS hours of frustration. F--k this game.

The fact that the alien is there for 10 hours chasing you makes me think that this game is a bit repetitive. But for the rest, graphically it has aged very well since 2014. And the sound is incredibly good, as well as the setting that makes you feel horrified during the 15 hours of gameplay
