This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alien Isolation is an impressive take on the 70s film "Alien" with next gen quality visuals on last gen tech, a sense of true horror, terrifyingly simple but extremely difficult A.I., and if you got the Nostromo Edition, you're in for a real treat.

You play as Amanda Ripley "daughter of Ellen Ripley" and a strong female lead. The story has you along in a decollate mall ship paradise thing in Jupiter's Orbit know only as Sevastopol. Sevastopol is now a home of the Xenomorph and the rest of the crazed survivors. You must go through many tricky and interesting puzzles that will test your patience and fear factor level. Oh and this game is not meant for the impatient because if you make one wrong move you'll either get killed or go through an insane attempt at escaping. Don't bother escaping from the Alien. You'll get caught up to because the thing is fast AF and its impossible to kill. Don't even friggin' run in this game. That's how sensitive the A.I.'s hearing is in this game is. The A.I. is very advanced in this game and difficulty is definitely on the hard end. The game is about 10 hours long and you can't go once at anytime without dying unless you're going for the trophy.

The scenery feels like were something when down hard. The atmosphere and music is tense and terrifying keeping you on your toes making sure you don't die and you will hallucinate plenty of times thinking the Xenomorph is lurking in your bedroom right now in fact. The game maybe a single place to go kind of game but the game's environments are actually more open than what anyone expected. Most of the stuff that's blocked off are available to be unlocked after you've got the right tool for the job. Heck the stuff you find later on. You can go back to the beginning of the game and unlock the blocked off areas. I haven't even found what's back in the beginning yet because story.

If you got the Nostromo Edition (like I got), you play as the original cast. You start in the scene after they discuss the Alien and you have to close off the area without getting killed. I don't know how it ends because I keep getting killed.

    Pros:
    Excellent Story
    Advanced A.I.
    Amazing Graphical Detail
    Memorable Characters
Just the right amount of difficulty
    Perfect Movie Tie-In game

First of all let me start by saying that this is probably one of the looking games of the PS3. Simply gorgeous and atmospheric.
Secondly is one of my top survival horror games of all time. A hidden gem and a huge recomendation for people who loves this genre.
And finally the story and art direction are perfect. By far the best movie into game adaptation of all time.

This is the first game to truly capture the atmosphere, suspense and terror of it's source material. Graphics are excellent and the difficultyThis is the first game to truly capture the atmosphere, suspense and terror of it's source material. Graphics are excellent and the difficulty on hard is brutal. The story is interesting and a nice addition to the "Alien" universe. The only complaints I have is being used to the FPS format usually meaning "fast paced shooter" it's a bit difficult to get used to having to find alternate means aside from "shoot it until it dies". In this game, distraction is your game and in fact, knowing the layout of a given area is a must- if it sees you, it kills you. The Alien is lovingly rendered and moves quite well, he's faster than you think which can be jarring when an 8-foot monster moves with seemingly blinding speed; you can actually use that your advantage if you're smart. Oh and forget about killing him, just forget about it. This is a thinking man or woman's game requiring patience and a survivors willingness to escape to survive; it's very much unlike any other FPS I've ever played which means it can be difficult to get used to if your previous experience is playing C:OD or Borderlands 2. The music is wonderful as the game mixes in tracks from "Alien" and original music. This is a lovingly rendered game, fans from the series will notice this in the technology, the environment and the Alien itself. The sound effects are ambient and terrifying, the most stressful moments often arrive from hearing the alien and not being able to see it. You have a solid arsenal of items to craft for distraction and occasionally for self defense but you must deploy them carefully because as I wrote if it sees you, it kills you.

I can safely say this is the first game since "Dead Space" came out way back in 2008 that genuinely terrified me. A key difference being with Dead Space you could rest assure that you can kill whatever it is that comes at you while this game it's a completely different story. The game is not perfect but the pros far outweigh the cons, it is atmospheric, terrifying and you will dread seeing the monster. If you're a fan of survival horror and have waited and been disappointed by one misstep after another don't pass this one up. It can be frustrating because the difficulty at the highest level is brutal but it is immersive enough that like "Dark Souls" every death is a lesson learned. Oh and for clarity this game is DEFINITELY not Aliens:Colonial Marines which was a complete mess that promised much and delivered so very little. I hated that game which made me nervous about purchasing this game but it is definitely worth it.

Also if you're a big fan of the first three films like I am this is the first Alien game that you can hold your head up high while purchasing, it's that good. I haven't finished it yet but my verdict is that this is unequivocally the best "Alien" game that's ever been made, more please.

As a massive fan of alien 1 and 2, this game is the closest you will ever get to being in that universe. The sounds, the environments are just perfect. But it is SO damn long! Epic, cinematic and varied storyline lasting a dozen challengingMasterful sound design and soundtrack that carries the tension perfectly. Epic, cinematic and varied storyline lasting a dozen challenging hours (I played on 'novice' difficulty, but the alien doesn't give a damn, it insta-kills on any difficulty!). Spectacular art direction that makes you feel like a visitor at a physically tangible place. Minigames that feel just right in their context of machine interaction. Annoying alien that will randomly insta-kill you more than a few times. Conclusion: A fitting game for both Dark Souls-masochists or casual sci-fi explorers, but not really a horror game, as it's more tense than terrifying. PS3 is NOT the optimal way to play it, with glitches and long loading-times and a few severe framerate drops (the fire effects are way too pretty for PS3!). I could give 6 or 7 out of 10, but 8 is for a realistic space station, and the original, mature and uncompromisingly serious take on a first-person action game. Wait, actually I'll give it 7 because I don't want to replay it. Tension can make for a cool one-time adventure, but fun is more addictive. Expand
