Quite possibly as good as it gets when it comes to sci-fi horror. [Nov 2014, p.48]

Inspired by the first movie of the Alien saga, this FPS survival horror is simply the best homage to Ridley Scott's movie. It will haunt you, it will scare you and it will make you jump... and you'll like it.

A stealth game that is not a disgrace to the Alien movie, and both its fan and a gamer who has not been kissed by its teeth will enjoy this, if they do wink at the game's story.

Players get frustrated, scared and upset, and it all feels very convincing because they also get outsmarted by an AI and there are few games that can make such a claim these days. Creative Assembly gets a huge plus for enhancing the fear factor in this one.

Unlike every other Alien game to date, the alien in Alien: Isolation is an unpredictable enemy. It's off-rails, unscripted and behaves pretty much however it pleases. Like a mad Tamagotchi, the alien is powered by some clever AI routines that allow it to hunt and kill using a bunch of different senses.

The details of the visual and ludic design, then, do more than keep the terror fresh—they create within the player a demand for more.

It may seem strange to complain that a game’s too long, but when the genuine scares of being hunted by an unstoppable predator are so diluted by repetition and padding, Isolation’s epic length really does work against it.

An amazing game which is the true definition of "Survival Horror" by all means!
First thing that strikes you right in your face is its terrifying atmosphere. Fear in this game is not just about jump scares or even Alien by itself. The sense of surviving with great help of amazing sound effects and great musics and its bizarre level design all together have created something like nightmare that gradually rises the fear level inside your mind until the atmosphere single-handedly scares you to the bones while there is no one even around! Now add immortal Alien and other enemies that they just want to kill you ... well, there is no rest in this game. Fear and exhaustion all the way through.
The story line and gameplay are also amazing that even through the long gameplay time you don't feel bored.
An unknown jewel if you ask me!

There aren't many real flaws I can think of, and I didn't really have any real problems with the save-stations that a lot of the negativity seems to come back to. Sure, there were times that I lost quite some progress, but then you realize that you hadn't really gotten that far anyway, you had just been hiding in a locker for ten minutes, being too scared to even move, and now when you know where to go, things go a lot smoother. Besides, the longer you go without a save-station, the more you want to keep alive, making the game even more stressful and thrilling. I never felt the game was unfair at any point. I have always liked the Alien-movies (especially the first two of course), but this game sparked my interest and love for the franchise.

The only reason the game doesn't get a 10 from me is that some parts of the game has too many backtrack-moments. Not necessarily that you end up visiting places several times throughout the game, but more to the fact that there constantly is something you have to fix to continue progressing. Having to go back towards the start of the level, just to start some generator, then go back again, and so forth, can be a bit frustrating. I also wish there were more friendly (or non-hostile at least) humans on-board the station. Towards the end of the game, you also end up in a bit too many situations that feel very scripted and "video-game-typical"-like, dodging trains, falling elevators, aliens and facehuggers, while everything is burning and so forth. I know this is the climax of the game, but it could have been a bit more subtle, and as it is now it's on the edge of being over the top.

All in all though, this game is amazing, and gives you a fantastic experience. You won't have fun all the time, but chances are you will constantly be scared (absolutely terrified at some points even). I was at least. If you claim you weren't, you are probably playing it wrong or in the wrong setting :>

A great survival horror game overall, would totally recommend it for fans of the genre as well as fans of the Alien world/franchise.

The visuals and atmosphere are great by themselves in addition to that, they are really well-made to replicate how sci-fi was depicted in the movies true to its spirit. I would only wish that the sound would be a little more present at some later parts of the game, in the first sections it's beautiful.

I also really enjoyed the gameplay and pacing during the first half of the game. The hiding mechanics are nice, AI of the Alien is really nice, tension and horror does not just consist of jump scares in a row

The Only thing that bothered me quite a bit is that after the first half of the game, the climax of the story was reached and waited to be resolved, but the game actually went on for several hours longer without adding much of gameplay elements or story bits. These parts were still enjoyable, just felt a little bit of.

This game is very stupid. Were it not for the simple fact that the game does not have automatic saves it would last 74 seconds.
