Probably a 7 for an average gamer who likes stealth gameplay (and very little else), but definitely a 9 for those of us who grew up in fear of the Alien from the first movie. Great atmosphere, superb sound .... The PS3 version has a bit of slowdown (very occasionally) and some screen tearing from time to time, but nothing that spoils the fun. 9/10 Expand

Masterful sound design and soundtrack that carries the tension perfectly. Spectacular art direction that makes you feel like a visitor at a physically tangible place. Minigames that feel just right in their context of machine interaction. Annoying alien that will randomly insta-kill you more than a few times. Conclusion: A fitting game for both Dark Souls-masochists or casual sci-fi explorers, but not really a horror game, as it's more tense than terrifying. PS3 is NOT the optimal way to play it, with glitches and long loading-times and a few severe framerate drops (the fire effects are way too pretty for PS3!). I could give 6 or 7 out of 10, but 8 is for a realistic space station, and the original, mature and uncompromisingly serious take on a first-person action game. Wait, actually I'll give it 7 because I don't want to replay it. Tension can make for a cool one-time adventure, but fun is more addictive. Expand

Simply great, not like anything I've ever played. No run and gun, just stealth and stay alive. It's a survival horror and it does it really well. It's tense and scary, probably what they were going for and they did it right!

Omg ..this game is really good. So far I am having a blast ..The .sound ambience is scary as hell. Having .little bit of screen tearing, but overall I must say my expectations are met and then some. The aliens design ..Is amazing...people are complaining to hard ...but I like that makes it realistic survival

I changed my mind several times about this game. The uncompromising difficulty combined with manual saves and repetitive gameplay can make Isolation a hugely frustrating and at times boring experience. The plot also doesn't seem to go anywhere with most of the game filled with boring tasks such as pressing switches or computer terminals. The main problem lies with the Alien its self. The plot also doesn't seem to go anywhere with most of the game filled with boring tasks such as pressing switches or computer terminals. The main problem lies with the Alien its self. There are looooong sections where the Alien just won't leave you alone and to be honest the "crawl, hide (for 10 minuets), die, repeat, crawl, hide, die, repeat nature of the game almost had me giving up as early as the 5th level. Apart from anything else having something invincible constantly on your ass eventually becomes tedious rather then scary. Which misses the point of the game I guess. BUT I'm glad I stuck with it because it does get better and the things it does right it does very well. The use of sound to create tension is the best I've seen since Dead Space and the ambiance generally is very creepy. The Alien AI is actually well done and feels like the unpredictable, intelligent killer from the movies. When it's not frustrating you it will certainly scare you. Everything about this game is intense - You're not even safe while saving the game.
The last third of the game is defiantly the best but it's a shame it takes that long for the game to introduce some variety to the gameplay and interesting plot twists. Ther's a great survival horror in here somewhere but problems with pacing, repetition, plot and difficulty mean while this is good were still waiting for the ultimate Alien game.

Graphics are excellent and the difficulty on hard is brutal. The story is interesting and a nice addition to the "Alien" universe. The only complaints I have is being used to the FPS format usually meaning "fast paced shooter" it's a bit difficult to get used to having to find alternate means aside from "shoot it until it dies". In this game, distraction is your game and in fact, knowing the layout of a given area is a must- if it sees you, it kills you. The Alien is lovingly rendered and moves quite well, he's faster than you think which can be jarring when an 8-foot monster moves with seemingly blinding speed; you can actually use that your advantage if you're smart. Oh and forget about killing him, just forget about it. This is a thinking man or woman's game requiring patience and a survivors willingness to escape to survive; it's very much unlike any other FPS I've ever played which means it can be difficult to get used to if your previous experience is playing C:OD or Borderlands 2. The music is wonderful as the game mixes in tracks from "Alien" and original music. This is a lovingly rendered game, fans from the series will notice this in the technology, the environment and the Alien itself. The sound effects are ambient and terrifying, the most stressful moments often arrive from hearing the alien and not being able to see it. You have a solid arsenal of items to craft for distraction and occasionally for self defense but you must deploy them carefully because as I wrote if it sees you, it kills you.

I can safely say this is the first game since "Dead Space" came out way back in 2008 that genuinely terrified me. A key difference being with Dead Space you could rest assure that you can kill whatever it is that comes at you while this game it's a completely different story. The game is not perfect but the pros far outweigh the cons, it is atmospheric, terrifying and you will dread seeing the monster. If you're a fan of survival horror and have waited and been disappointed by one misstep after another don't pass this one up. It can be frustrating because the difficulty at the highest level is brutal but it is immersive enough that like "Dark Souls" every death is a lesson learned. Oh and for clarity this game is DEFINITELY not Aliens:Colonial Marines which was a complete mess that promised much and delivered so very little. I hated that game which made me nervous about purchasing this game but it is definitely worth it.

Also if you're a big fan of the first three films like I am this is the first Alien game that you can hold your head up high while purchasing, it's that good. I haven't finished it yet but my verdict is that this is unequivocally the best "Alien" game that's ever been made, more please.

Now, not everything in this game reflects the quality of the original movie: the action becomes a bit frustrating at times -that could be a plus, or not-, the Alien is hard to avoid if it is near you, the game programming has glitches... Nevertheless, I am playing in the 4th difficulty level -there are 5- and I am enjoying it. I want to see how I can get rid of this biomechanoid! Expand

Levels that have the alien, have the alien pacing around continuously nearby, or basically hi-speed move/warping between levels to end up nearly instantly along side you. The "scanner" is virtually near useless, with no range indicated and useless grid bars. The weapon access gui is archaic, unintuitive, and most unfortunately - only accessible in "real-time" (which means you have to preselect what you need before a specific event because the interface is so kludgy it is unusable for quick on the fly response). This game on the PS3 is not a game of intelligent survival; it is merely a game for enduring extreme levels of patience in reloads, along with learning nothing more then the movement dance to get through the levels. Human/npc confrontations are fine, the "working Joe's" confrontations are fine, but basically the alien confrontations vis a vis alien movement are unrealistic; which results in the game as a whole becoming nothing more then a test of patience. Its a very good game actually but its diffuculty level and punishing checkpoint system makes it less and less appealing as you progress. I always play games on hardest. Finished 3 souls games. But this one makes u suffer for it because loading times. Great game but i just couldnt conplete it. Maybe on another console brother...

Like a first person metal gear that will make you change underwear often. As a massive fan of alien 1 and 2, this game is the closest you will ever get to being in that universe. The sounds, the environments are just perfect. But it is SO damn long! Which wouldn't be a problem if you didn't have to go through the same sections over and over again.

This game gave me the experience you expect from a new console. It felt like Tomb Raider or Resident Evil on PS1. Turok on N64 and Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube. It feels new and exciting. Its genuinely tense. The sound and art design are hollywood level. Beautifully presented. Remember when you bought games because they were unique and fun as opposed to having the quality of being an update or a sequel? This games a reminder of that and I'm so pissed that i allowed external influences to prevent me from playing this. The reviews are mixed because not everyone has the same experience. The a.i makes each playthrough unique. Well done sega. Games like this are the reason you invest in a games console.

So after the god awful mess that was Aliens: Colonial Marines, we needed a new game starring the aliens to wash out the horrific taste that Colonial Marines left in are mouths. The bugs, the glitches and the laughable AI that made the game funny but it wasn't suppose to be funny but to be taken seriously. Everybody's expectations was high for Alien: Isolation by it's advertisements and the word of mouth that was going around about the game made the hype higher then ever. Now everybody has bought the game and played it and anything seems to be positive with feedback. Everybody seems happy of what they got and I was too.

The graphics in the game are much much better than Colonial Marines, I mean I did come across some glitches in this game but they wasn't anything like Colonial Marines. I was decent graphics for the most part, I mean the graphic didn't really wow me in anyway it was just basic graphics you see in every video game you play.

The Alien itself is both scary and truly terrifying and it's mostly by the design of the alien and the sound effect's it makes. The creature will kill everything that comes it's way even you. The Alien in Colonial Marines was just a joke because it was a messy cliche that was both laughable and bad since the Alien is suppose to be frighting and a treat. In this game you are hiding for your life trying to get away from this thing and when he finds you it's over. I thought the game creators did a fantastic job on the design of the Alien.

The sound mixing and editing in this game was spot on great and really added a lot to the game when it comes to suspense.

Now for the problems with the game: The ending didn't really end very good. It just ended just like that and it left me wanting more which isn't a good thing for me.

The voice acting for the most part wasn't anything that good. It wasn't bad or anything like that I was just blah.

The game isn't anyway near flawless as these many mistakes and flaws in the game itself. Let's just say that the game isn't perfect but putting all that aside this is still a pretty good game and a game that's worth playing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Alien Isolation is an impressive take on the 70s film "Alien" with next gen quality visuals on last gen tech, a sense of true horror, terrifyingly simple but extremely difficult A.I., and if you got the Nostromo Edition, you're in for a real treat.

You play as Amanda Ripley "daughter of Ellen Ripley" and a strong female lead. The story has you along in a decollate mall ship paradise thing in Jupiter's Orbit know only as Sevastopol. Sevastopol is now a home of the Xenomorph and the rest of the crazed survivors. You must go through many tricky and interesting puzzles that will test your patience and fear factor level. Oh and this game is not meant for the impatient because if you make one wrong move you'll either get killed or go through an insane attempt at escaping. Don't bother escaping from the Alien. You'll get caught up to because the thing is fast AF and its impossible to kill. Don't even friggin' run in this game. That's how sensitive the A.I.'s hearing is in this game is. The A.I. is very advanced in this game and difficulty is definitely on the hard end. The game is about 10 hours long and you can't go once at anytime without dying unless you're going for the trophy.

The scenery feels like were something when down hard. The atmosphere and music is tense and terrifying keeping you on your toes making sure you don't die and you will hallucinate plenty of times thinking the Xenomorph is lurking in your bedroom right now in fact. The game maybe a single place to go kind of game but the game's environments are actually more open than what anyone expected. Most of the stuff that's blocked off are available to be unlocked after you've got the right tool for the job. Heck the stuff you find later on. You can go back to the beginning of the game and unlock the blocked off areas. I haven't even found what's back in the beginning yet because story.

If you got the Nostromo Edition (like I got), you play as the original cast. You start in the scene after they discuss the Alien and you have to close off the area without getting killed. I don't know how it ends because I keep getting killed.

    Pros:
    Excellent Story
    Advanced A.I.
    Amazing Graphical Detail
    Memorable Characters
Just the right amount of difficulty
    Perfect Movie Tie-In game
