What has this industry come too when a game like BF3 trail-blazes with new innovation and cutting edge technology, and receives the same and in some cases lower scores than a game that was sub par 3 years ago. I admit BF3 is too hard for me to get into it too much, but I don't feel blatantly disrespected and insulted as I do with MW3. Shame on you IGN and other reviewers... shame on you. We know what Activision is up to, we aren't all so blatantly and utterly stupid, and we know what is driving these high reviews. It sure isn't the quality of the game. This game is worth a 7, but I'm rating it a 0 in protest of this huge scandal, and because there is no reason why they couldn't/didn't make a game worthy of 9/10 scores. Expand

terrible. same old same old garbage. wake up players. I bought this title with the intention of getting a game that was worth $60. Turns out that it was just a waste of money. Activision should have just released this game as DLC for MW2, because thats basically what it is. Don't waste your money with this game.

We all immediately stated laughing at the lack of effort put into the game. The menus are EXACTLY the same. The guns are EXACTLY the same. Even the guns that are different a re just re-skinned versions of MW2 weapons (FAMAS/T95). The game should not have been made. All additions and fixes in the game could have easily been done in a patch or another overpriced, poorly named map pack. After the laughing had stopped, we all came the the consensus that everyone should just buy BF3. Amazing what happens when effort is put into a project. Glen Schofield, if you read this, this is my response to your pathetic twitter request. You have more money than you can spend thanks to this game. Enjoy your cash, and get over it, your game is trash. It's time for this series to die. Better games such as Batman, Battlefield, Mass Effect, Skyrim, Skyward Sword and many others are coming out. This generic **** fest begs for attention in a sea of pure talent and dedication. If you bought this, I sincerely apologize. If not, congratulations on your self control. 0/10, because that's what it deserves. Go support the really good games. Buy BF3, buy Skyrim, buy Zelda. They are truly deserving of your support. Looking forward to what Respawn Entertainment has to offer...should be interesting. Did that hurt, Activision/IW/SH? Just a little bit? Expand

Its great how they tune it and made it really smooth and made big improvements. But not worth the $60. This is what MW2 should have been in the first place. For people who plan to buy. Beware that the game is just like MW2 but just redefined and just made improvement. However, you will get bored and start noticing how dull it gets.

Thanks IGN for posting a story where Sledgehammer Games' Glen Schofield was asking Call of Duty fans to support MW3 on Metacritic. Without this story I would have remained a silent part of what appears to be a majority of fans who are dissatisfied with the latest COD installment. MW3 IS the reason I'm quitting gaming altogether. I'm a COD multiplayer fanatic with a shameful amount of my life spent playing the game (MW and MW2) online. I didn't even play the campaigns for WAW, Black Ops, or MW3...went right to multiplayer and figure most serious COD players do the same. The campaign mode is simply rubbish that takes at most a day to finish. This isn't just a hit on MW3...the past 4 COD releases all have this issue.
MW3 is Black Ops 2 in regards to online gameplay. From the graphics, to the sounds, to the load-out system. Infinity Ward went from near perfection with MW/MW2 multiplayer interface to a poor attempt at improving on Treyarch's multiplayer interface. -Why, why, why add weapon proficiencies? You've made a once very usable weapon into a spray and pray device. The only useful perk is Kick...without this perk a once reasonably controllable assault rifle is useless from a moderate distance. You can fix this immediately by automatically applying the proficiencies to the weapon as they're unlocked....instead of only allowing a single proficiency. -Why make the maps bigger while making the players slower? Extreme conditioning isn't infinite and no Lightweight? Come on....
-The reticle design selection...straight ripoff from Black Ops...you could do better.
-One of my biggest concerns...shotguns are now considered a primary weapon...another ripoff from Black Ops. NO...I don't want to use the Overkill perk.
-Juiced may be the most useless death streak on these huge maps.
-Why do all the guns sound like 50 Barretts going off? -Why do grenades take so long to explode? Not feeling having to cook ever grenade thrown.
    -The maps are absolute mazes....
-Kill steaks...why 2 strike packages? You really think someone will utilize both in their custom classes? With each class allowing for custom strike packages, why not just put all the kill streaks in one big category?
-As you rank up, the emblem graphics are beyond weak.
Not sure the COD franchise could release another installment that would entice me enough to give it another try. After Black Ops and now MW3, I'm waiving the white towel.

I was addicted to COD4: Modern Warfare, and played that game religiously, every night, for almost a year. NONE of the COD games that have come after have been able to sustain that love that I felt for COD4. Black Ops was a somewhat good game, but suffered from terrible maps. In my opinion, all COD games that have come after COD4 have suffered from terrible maps, with each game only having 2 or 3 good maps, and the rest being virtually unplayable due to sheer boredom and poor design. Modern Warfare 3 continues this problem, offering nothing but similar maps, that are tiny, maze-ridden, flat places of boredom. It just sets itself up for players to run around like lunatics, and have no strategy or skill needed. I honestly cannot figure out what happened to the map designers after COD4? Did they all leave to go to other game companies? The gameplay for MW3 is really nothing new. The new Kill Confirmed mode is an interesting twist to Team Deathmatch, but is ridden with campers who just sit around and wait in ambush in order to acquire the dog tags. Graphics are average at best in this game. Controls are still way too loose. Gameplay requires no strategy or skill, and is way too arcade-like. Couple that with the atrocious map design, and there is NO reason to purchase this game. This is easily a rental only. If you want an arcade style run-n-gun FPS, then your clear choice should still be COD4. COD: Black Ops has a little bit better gameplay in it, but still only gets second place behind COD4 due to only having 3 or 4 decent maps, with the rest being terrible. COD4 had great maps, with much more variety than you'd see in future COD games. MW3 offers no real new things that would make it a purchase. The slight changing of the Killstreak system, and addition of a "Survival" mode in Spec Ops is not enough to warrant a purchase. Nothing about this game makes me want to go back to it. After playing it for the past 4 days, I have realized that it just isn't worth playing through any longer - it just isn't fun, and cannot hold my interest at all, unlike COD4. MW3 is essentially just MW2.5, and should have just been released as DLC content (which, in my opinion, is still WAY too overpriced for what you get in COD games - c'mon guys, lower the price for those map packs, since the quality of the maps is so inferior anyway. it is NOT worth $15 for a map pack.....maybe $5 at the most!). Yes, this game will sell a mind-blowing amount of copies this year, as the COD series always does. Unfortunately, quantity does NOT denote quality. The COD series is now all hype, and no substance. I cannot honestly recommend the multiplayer at all. There is nothing there to warrant playing it longer than a weekend rental. The short Single Player campaign isn't nearly as much of a disappointment, but still didn't appeal to me as much as the previous COD single player campaigns did. While previous COD games have fallen a LOT in quality when it comes to multiplayer, the single player has always been great. This year it just seems to have levelled off and isn't nearly as good as previous ones have seemed to me. The Call of Duty franchise has become the "Madden" of FPS series, with yearly iterations that do not have enough new content, and are just "roster updates" (or map updates, in this case) with no worthwhile new substance. Perhaps it is time for the game producers to sit back and take a few years off to reflect on their product, and put a lot of time and thought into making it better, releasing it only after a few years of development, rather than rushing out sloppy remakes with terrible quality maps and gameplay, just to make a quick buck. Buyer Beware!!! Expand

So with MW3 I have been hesitant to spend $60 on it. One of the things that bothers me the most about these games is the gradual lack of effort to create even a decent game. The story from MW2 left a bad taste in my mouth. Its obvious that the story suffered from the focus on multiplayer. What was great about MW1 was it had a solid campaign mode and a great multiplayer feature. Its even more obvious that they really don't care about the campaign anymore. My brother beat the campaign in 4hrs. Really? 4hrs is the best you could do?
I did play with my brother online for several hours so i could get a feel for it and I have to say I wasn't impressed. I definitely wasn't any more motivated to spend $60 on this. What bothers me the most is the idea that they're going to have new DLC every month. So from the start they're telling everyone that they selling an unfinished product. I can't imagine walking into a Carls Jr, paying full price for a hamburger and only getting half of a burger. Then when I ask for the rest of the burger they tell me that i have to purchase the rest in fourths but its ok because its a quarter of the price of what I originally paid. The worst part is that out of the DLC that I have purchased in the past is that there are usually only two maps that are any good.
This game is definitely not worth paying $60 for. The value just isn't there. I can see paying $40 for a new copy, maybe....
As long as people keep paying for poor quality and over valued products they're going keep making the least amount of effort for the most cost to consumer.

When you play this game, you realize that 90% of the money and effort was gone in advertising. It is a COD MW 2.5, the same thing we are getting each year. Spend your money in something like Deus Ex HR or Uncharted 3, not this garbage. If you want something war-related, buy BF3, it's not a masterpiece, but at least it had a lot of good work behind.

This is MW2 with revamped maps, looks more like a DLC than a new game. Infinity Ward you failed on this one. Once again laggy servers plaque the Call of Duty game and I can't believe they have been using the same engine for 6 years, time for a change. I gave it one last shot at Call of Duty but I'm done with this franchise and happy playing my Battlefield 3.

MW3 is a carbon copy of MW2. FACT! The guns are mediocre at best. The lag is atrocious. The maps are a similar layout to MW2 (In fact its just like a $60 map-pack) And..worst of all....Activisions laziness is evident in everything from the fonts to the trademark chickens they have clucking around the place. I'd say they didn't have to do a tap of work on this product 'coz its all the same!!!

Then there's the positive reviews...they elude me completely!!! I have no clue how a trusted reviewer could recommend you spend your hard-earned-cash on something so substandard. This leads me to the conclusion that brown envelopes must be involved.

Then you have Glen Schoefield BEGGING...that's right...BEGGING (google it) players to give it a good review on metacritic...and that just annoys me so much more!!! Begging us to make them more money when it clearly is...NOT...DESERVED.

On an finishing note...I honestly hope the world learns from this disgrace. And going by user reviews the world over.....it looks like the COD fanbase is already falling apart. Enjoy my $60, Activision. I hope you buy yourself something nice.

Re-packing a small MW2 DLC map pack and charging $60 is just crazy. The game is very linear, and there's not much challenge/strategy. You follow the white dot from point to point. I was hoping for some innovation and new features, but found neither.

Modern warfare 2 is good, but not even killfests compare to the simulation and entertainment I get from battlefield 3.

Walls and building being destroyed. Rubble and debris everywhere! Tanks and squads assaulting strategic areas a la flag placements.  Being holed up in a building while the enemy is beseiging it with tanks, helicoptors, snipers while your squad works together

Oh man...modern warfare 2 does not offer this. It only gives you kill rushes. Thats it. And im sure mw3 does the same. I...cannot accept this over the massive stimulation I get from battlefield 3. I get less kills, but The overall experience is better.

People who complain about battlefield 3 cuz of the single player campaign, snipers, people hidden in rubble that look like dead bodies are a bunch of **** who bring down a good game. So, what do you want...fking to have men rush you like monsters do in power rangers so you can get your easy kills?

I don't give a **** about bf3 single player. Bf3 isnt about singleplayer. Its all about the multiplayer, and all you **** who think ps3 graphics sucks for bf3 are a bunch of ****. Graphics dont always make the game---hence why bf2 from 2005 is still the king over all these games. A quick review on the goods... Or bads, rather.

It's a repackaged Modern Warfare 2, that does a great injustice to Modern Warfare 2. Imagine a delayed version of Modern Warfare 2 with some crappy or only half-way decent new maps. When I said delayed I mean that it takes longer to do everything in this game. Whether that's using a UAV killstreak, aiming, etc. The game isn't very smooth.

The game isn't very smooth. I, personally, enjoy Call of Duty for it's fast pace and seamless gameplay. This one seems blockier and slower than it's predecessors.

They tweaked bullet damage or health or something. It takes longer to get a kill during your standard bullet exchanged, but they've also thrown in a "Wow that's a lucky shot" factor that happens WAY WAY too often. Play for 30 minutes and you'll have experienced enough of it in your favor to go, "WTF?" and not in your favor to say, "Wow, really?"

Killstreaks might as well be free candy on a parade day, because everyone is getting them and they never stop. I'd love to have 5 seconds without someone on either team calling in another UAV or care package or blah blah blah.

Hardcore fanboys will say this is a great game, and that it's the best of the series. They're deluded.

It isn't really a horrible game. It's just a major disappointment. It doesn't live up to the hype. It doesn't even come close to living up to it. I guess I'll be considering myself a Battlefield player when I'm in the mood to get my FPS-on for the next year or so and I'll likely rent the next Call of Duty that comes out before making a purchase. You think they did this whole elite, pay 60 bucks, and get every expansion free for a year crap because they knew this game was going to be this bad?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So i got this game on release date and i am very shocked at how well this game came out. From the epic single player campaign to the awesome multiplayer and spec ops. The gun play has been balanced and so have the nobtubes and rockets and all the explosives. The new packages offer a wide variety of gameplay to the super "lone wolf" to the team- based player. The maps feel like modern warfare maps with the firefights usually occuring in houses and open ground and snipers now have a better chance at long range gameplay. No gun is overpowered since i have used all of them and kick butt with all of them equally. The elite package is an awesome upgrade to the game allowing you to see all of your games played and where you died and by who and by what gun. ELite TV is freaking amazing telling you how to play each map for certain types of game modes and how to use each gun with very specific details. The new killstreaks are super awesome. Nothing better then walking around with a recon juggernaut and just being a total tank. The specialist package is freaking amazing and is totally worth playing it if your a super lone wolf (25 kills with specialist package gives you a nuke) Expand

the game doesn't improve on the most important points the hit detection is awful, the spawn points are even worse the online system is all the same....what? different care packages?

I.e. - whenever you can throw a Semtex within 5 meters of someone and they easily walk it off and throw a bullet in your face and call it accurate I have to strongly disagree.

Secondly, support class killstreaks.... I mean really. If you die it still counts towards your killstreak and EMP's are on that side???? Wow way to totally and utterly destroy any fun in having an Osprey gunner, AC-130, or hell even a Sentry Gun when someone can just EMP the damn thing.

Thirdly, Activision, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer or whoever the hell is regulating this game seems to love to nerf any weapon that people seem to be using the most all under the false pretense of "balance" -- Why is it so hard to just follow the successful template that MW2 left us with?

Fourthly, the lack of a true form of Scavenger is a pure slap in the face. What is the point of just having more bullets; where's the full package the grenades, the equipment? Fifthly, the bland graphics, unenthusiastic gameplay, lack of a team based strategy aside from the entire team being rambo, the rabid camp supported maps, and overall game functionality leaves this game unbearable and unimpressive to any hardcore gamer or any gamer that has played the previous MW and MW2.

The ONLY good points about this game are the ease of clan organization and Survival Mode.

I give this game a 1 out of 10 if even that.

The game was a major disappointment due to the release of much better games that have been released lately. It just couldn't compete with title like Battlefield 3 or even Team fortress 2 and so it fell behind.

You would think after DICE stepped up their game and created a brand new engine that maybe CoD developers would have done the same thing and tried to improve upon their last few games. But no, same game as always. CoD is the new Madden of FPS. Constant releases all the same.

Sorry, nothing new to add to this review about MW3, it just plain sucks. Worst of the entire series and that says a lot. Worst multiplayer maps. Shortest single player campaign. Graphics that are now simply dated.

The graphics are extremely dated, Battlefield 3 just completely slaughters this game. The textures are also horrendous! Everything about this game is re-used from Modern Warfare 2. This game doesn't feel fresh at all. All of the guns and skins are re-used... the menus as well... even some of the buildings and vehicles. The sounds of the guns are still bad, and some are the same as MW2. Battlefield 3 is just so much better. Sorry if the truth hurts. This game is just a bad DLC to a game that came out two years ago. Kotick strikes again, this once great franchise has been beaten into the ground and then kicked aroudn multiple times for good measure. If you have the attention span and intellect of a 2 year old, this game's for you. If you want a real shooter, check out Battlefield 3.

This game was awful. Purely disgusting. The gameplay mechanics have not changed in the past 10 years. Although might be tried and true. The ending when Price kills makarov and smokes a cigar was a terrible way to end the game. And killing that little girl in the cutscene, was that really appropriate?

No real changes, again... multiplay is only decent because of the players, the same level of enjoyment can be had with the other games, nothing new, no point in buying.

It's just overpriced DLC for MW2. Nothing more, nothing less. I think Activision really need to make a new game. Not just copy old games add a couple of features and call it new. They do this every year.

The story has not changed much from former Call of duty series, going down a hallway, and shooting people. Some hallways are larger and some are smaller. And the multiplayer is generally not much different, dont waste your money this time around.

Multiplayer looks to be the usual affair, nothing to see here. This game really isnt worth paying for if you have any of the previous call of duty games.

Gamers like change in their games but its hard to do it right, change too much or change at the expense of good features and there will be complaints however even worse is when games stay the same. Time to retire modern warfare, the water in the well has become stagnant.

Can I get my money back? Seriously. This game is pathetic. 5-year old graphics, no new features and the same run and gun individual game play. I can't believe this version passes as a new game. I'm not bad at CoD, best killstreak in MW2 was 32 kills. Still, very disappointed. I thought that the graphics would improve over MW2, but no. If you have the PC version then the graphics are OK, but there are better graphics found in Killzone 2 which was from 2008. I'm sick of this game too, but maybe you aren't. I'm sick of this game too, but maybe you aren't. If you are still playing a CoD game then you probably will like this game too. Hell, we all like CoD, but there is NOTHING new here! The worst part about these games are the maps. In 1 week I know that I'll have every single corner memorized and the game will be a major repetition festival. Not at all interested in forking out more money for DLC maps that should have already been included. ALSO BIG NEGATIVE - There are more maps than you'll ever see included with this game, for some reason the devs don't run every map in every game mode so you more than likely will never play more than 4-5 maps unless you play every single game mode for hours a day. Overall, dedicated servers are a necessity if I'm every going to buy another CoD game, and I won't buy another one on this generation of consoles because they obviously aren't going to try, or can't improve the graphics over MW2. Last point, I bought the DLC for Black Ops and it was pointless. Over 2 months I never once got to play any of the DLC maps because the people I was playing with (random) obviously didn't buy it and there is no way to choose which map to play in. Yeah, I'm completely done with this series without dedicated servers or a guaranteed way to play ALL the maps. I know Infinity Ward broke apart and there is some kind of fan boy war over this game and BF3 (I do not have or play BF3 because I heard it sucks) but I don't care about any of that. I just want the ability to play ALL the maps in the game without having to play 8 hours a day 5 days a week in order to get lucky enough to get the rare maps that never get played. And, I want an improved graphical experience for each new game. Neither of those conditions have been met with MW3. So, basically the commercials with Jonah Hill were cool but, yeah MW3 is so much just MW2 with new killstreaks and maps. If that makes it for you then buy it. If not then please play Dark Souls, the more the merrier.

It gets a 2 because I expected much more having played MW2 and Black Ops. If you've never played a CoD before then it'll be great for you. I imagine the negatives are from people who've played this game before.

The game is buggy, and boring. And paying greater than full game price for a map-pack of MW1 is a scam. I feel scammed for buying it. The graphics were good.... if this was 2003. The sounds were sub-par, the game play is the same, with no variaton...... It's basically COD Modern mappack 3.

The leveling progression is way too high in multiplayer too. In one match I went up three levels. You don't get the sense that you earned the level you are at. I rented this and glad I didn't spend 60 dollars owning it. I honestly tried to give this game a chance and I am a fan of the series but this game tried to pull the wool over my eyes by giving me the exact same game again that I've already played several times over. There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
