OK. When I saw the User Score, I thought that it was just a whole bunch of Battlefield 3 trolls trying to take a big steamer on the CoD franchise. Then Battlefield Bad Company 2 came out & I never looked back or forward to Black Ops. MW3 showed me that like some of the comments here, They don't have any more fresh ideas, they never had the backbone to change anything or to shy away from 10 to 16 year olds that would beg their parents to purchase the game for them. Online is the same, with little change but a few more flashing words of BONUS. Guns sound lovely but don't pack the punch needed to make me feel I'm in the battle. Same old run and gun attitude, no squad feel at all. Same Block style atmosphere maps, WALLS, STAIRS, WINDOWS oh and plants and burnt out cars. Playing the game has just set it that I will never buy any of the CoD series again. I was so hoping that MW3 was going to change this for me but it hasn't. Thank you CoD4 for setting a bench mark for FPS and thank you Battlefield for having the guts to implement change. I give fealty to EA, DICE and the FROSTBITE 2 Engine. Well Played. Expand

It's very sad, that people give a developer credit for lazy work. Half of the sounds, equipment, perks, guns, and only one new attachment are in the game. 80% of the killstreaks are the same. And you always the get the felling "I have done this before". Survival is sorry attempted at zombies and fails flat. The same COD formula is use.

that the same I think, is a MW 2.5

I would not be surprised if the proceeds for this game are going to the legal team that is being built to attack the creators of the Call of duty franchise Jason West and Vincent Zampella. I am sure that Robert Kotick is rolling in my money right now laughing to himself. But now on to the game am I supposed to be to amazed by. There is an argument in the gaming world if Battlefeild or Modern Warfare 3 will beat out the other in the long run. From what I have played of both of them; I would like it if a third party came along and destroyed them both. What ever that means I don't know. Graphics: I can't complain. Some very stunning moments, but I did get some strange texture pops.
Design: The reason I am giving this game a 4 is because at least there are somethings that do work. The twitch gameplay is what we've all come to expect from this developing company. Level Design: Signle player linear and boring. This is ridiculous, I just feel like I am being led by the hand and shown all the same enemy over an over. Multiplayer level Design: Are you kidding me. The release maps are all basic grid based square maps with some objects to provide minimal cover. There is something about all the maps that feel like claustrophobic hallways. Even the "open air" sniping maps seem small and cramped. Why can you not jump up on boxes that are knee height, but dumpster can be mounted easily?
Controls: Nothing to complain about here. Sound: Nothing to complain about here.

Conclusion: Next time when the hype is such that a company will spend good money two months before to promote the next "big" game. I will think twice. I think that consumers were thinking that this game was going to be some "new" an "amazing" experience that would keep there hopes up about the business. Unfortunately this game does not seem "new" the aspect of "amazing" seems to be some where in the past successes of this pony. Nostalgia is a good selling point.

If you have Modern Warfare 2 or Black Ops you don't need to buy this game, choose Battlefield 3 instead. Repetitive gameplay, old graphic engine, only a couple of new features but that isn't nearly enough to buy it.

MW3 is more of an addon for MW2. I cant believe this is a whole new game priced at the very maximum because its exactly the same as the last game, no actualy its worse. I prefered MW2 over this. Next time you release a call of duty game take it back to its routes because this is getting old and a complete waste of money.

But first the good things about the game. While COD is the best selling game in history it is still one of the only FPS to run at 60 frames per second, this gives an opportunity for COD to have a fast paced shooter filled with running and gunning. But yet all anyone does in this game is camp.... pity. but anyways the campaign that ended the modern warfare series was actually quite enjoyable but yet short. Now for the bad, still listening fanboys? COD has tried to use the same system over and over again but with more upgrades from the standard COD 4 game (the best cod ever) and its really starting to show. Its a shame they made a couple billion dollars with essentially an expansion pack. All this game feels like is modern warfare 2 with new maps, a few new weapons and features. The online community makes the online experience one of the most frustrating in gaming along with demon souls and ninja gaiden (games that are so hard its pointless for people who haven't played them). COD has turned into the mainstream game for all the kids out there. Its a lot like NIKE anymore, people buy it because its NIKE, the name of the brand means more than the quality of it. and while there are better FPS games out there COD will still be the best seller because the fan base is brand committed. Sorry COD but you lost a lot of your long time fans with your recent installments and I'm contimplating not buying the new cod when it comes out because I'm tired of being disappointed and then going on to play a real shooter like Battlefield. I was always more a Tomb Raider kind of guy, till a buddy got me hooked on shooting zombies in COD world at war, then later we both got Black Ops as well and I got addicted to the multi-player. Let's just say it left me spoiled for what followed. I shouldn't be suprised I guess, since I did play mw2 a bit and didn't really enjoy it. Black Ops was a step forward I thought, something different. A lot more little details which make it fun. The graphics, bright and rich colours, the sounds like hit markers I especially like, having COD points to buy upgrades rather than MW3 having to use a crap gun for what seems like eternity before unlocking an upgrade or attatchment and by then You've unlocked a slightly better gun anyway. It's frustrating! It is much more fun for me the gamer, when I can choose what to play with! The guns don't seem to improve much either, in MW3 . I was frustrated to spend so much time unlocking everything to find the first gun was just as good as the last. No reward for the effort it seems. All In all I agree with everyone else, MW3 is just an add on to MW2 and seems like a step back. I found it dull to play, dreary to look at, and more like work than a game. I dragged myself to level 80 to feel like I got some money's worth, and havn't touched it since. I just play Black Ops now. I'm hoping the next game will carry on where Black Ops left off, or at least give us some fun improvements like customizable characters or choice of pre- set character or a lazer beam attachment,..anything! I'll definitely try a demo next time before spending money on a new game I've already played! Expand

A game where you can shoot people through solid walls, kill someone with a knife from 5 or 6 feet away, but can;t kill someone with a predator missile because they happen to be sitting under a table umbrella is broken as far as I'm concerned. The maps have been created to combat campers but now instead of campers you've got gamers running wild with SMG's and you're constantly being shot in the back. And being shot in the back is probably the only consistent thing in the game seeing as how the weapon damage lacks consistency the way Ethiopia lacks nutrition. In the 14 years I've been gaming I don't recall ever playing such a half-arsed sequel as this. I purchased BF3 and have enjoyed it immensely, but decided to get MW3 since my friends plan on getting it again.

Spent a couple hours with it last night. I was skeptical of the outrage that people showed over this so-called "$60 expansion" pack, but I'm starting to think they're spot on. The maps contain your standard third-world village, snow facility, construction site... really just re-hashes of the previous game's maps. The engine is more dated and the graphics are worse than the reviews let on. I was quite surprised, but it does not look like a game that was released in 2011. It's a shame that this will probably be the all-time best-selling game in a few months, because it certainly does not deserve that honor, but will be fun if you're looking for an arcade-style shooter rather than a simulator.

I also never noticed the kids/swearing/slurs/degenerates quite like I did last night. Compared to the other games out there, its quite jarring and getting quite old. Or perhaps I'm just getting old.

If you must have CoD, then this is a no-brainer, but if you're on the fence, you might as well stick with MW2 and keep prestiging (it's essentially the same thing) or move to BF3, like I did. It's really hard to recommend this at a $60, $50 or even $40 price tag.

Firstly I have spent quite a few hours really giving this game a go and I have concluded that I don't really like it. There are a number of issues with it so far, although I am sure many of them may be patched soon. Firstly the spawning is atrocious. You literally get killed and spawn right on the enemies shoulders, meaning you get killed over and over at your spawn. If that doesnt happen you spawn near the battle or right where you were just killed. Yes this happened in Black ops and people complained about the spawn too, but honestly it was so much better than this. At least in Black ops you spawned on one side of the map seperating both teams for a little bit before both teams went back to the battle zones to recommence the battle. Not only this but when using the Microphones to speak the quality is terrible, it was always perfect on Black ops and has always been terrible on both MW2 and now on MW3. It is also taking ages to find games, making me wait 20 minutes to join one, although again this happened with Black ops. The problem with this series is that the gameplay is to fast paced, the enemies are hard to identify, with enemy players disappearing and then reappearing out of nowhere to literally blow you away. Often an enemy magically appears right behind you after getting a few kills. The only way I have gotten my killstreaks so far is by camping a little bit and shooting from range. The maps are clunky and buildings are in odd positions, the maps don't flow properly at all. What happened to COD 4 and Black ops simplicity. They were so easy to store in your memory, for everyone, making gameplay fun. I see a lot of people and hear a lot of people complaining about the above on their mics mid game, so it isnt just me thinking that. Black ops seemed to cater for a broader audience, people who were not good at the game and people who were brilliant. Many of the best scoring MW3 players seem to be taking advantage of glitches within the game to get ahead of everyone else. Black ops is much more fun in that when you are not doing well you can sit back and try sniping for example, as the maps allowed this. It to me required skill to kill opponents where as this game is so fast its a case of luck. I was getting someawesome scores during one match with 40 kills plus on domination, but then followed this up with 30 deaths. It is so inconsistent and unbalanced. I do find the game fun though and recommend it to all COD fans as a temporary title to keep you going until major improvements are made. But don't expect this title to last long. Look at the vast improvement from WAW and Black ops and from COD 4 and MW2. We need new killstreak rewards, new maps, new locations, new guns, new gun sounds, new characters to control. Black ops was a great game because it was set in a different era, utilising different methods of warfare. I believe the Modern warfare franchise needs to end here and Infinity Ward need to develop a brand new series, set during a different time period, with brand new everything. I will however applaud infinity Ward for introducing point streaks, allowing say a player to get two kills and capture a flag and recieve a UAV etc. Also ranking your guns up is a lot of fun. I find myself wanting to play this game the most right now, but I honestly think that once I have given it a good month of gameplay, which I believe is fair, ill be back on Black ops having fun, even if I am not doing too well. To sum this game up and the whole engine in general, there is to much going on for the type of engine being used. Expand

Well, back to Modern Warfare 2 I guess. Modern Warfare 2 had better map design, weapon design, spawn placement, sound design, kill streak design and frankly weapon proficiencies are a step backward.

Any fps should have to pass 2 tests: The pistol test. Can a great player win with a pistol? The unlock test. Is the game balanced enough to make a level 1 player be able to compete evenly?

They reused the layout design which is pretty sad. On top of that, if anyone here remembers the CoD4 map Pipeline, they reused the building where you can go up and camp. They put that building in one of their single player missions. I have nothing good to say about this game. A waste a money. Go get yourself Skyrim, Saint Rows The Third, Battlefield 3 or even Duke Nukem Forever.

Doing my best to avoid spoilers, I'll just say that the campaign revolves around a seemingly endless onslaught of enemies and is peppered with a few dramatic scenes designed to keep your attention. Multiplayer...it's the same as MW2, but dull and tired. 16 new maps...and they're all the same: drab locales with obstacles cluttering every path. Most of the obstacles, although only waist high, are not scalable even for the elite warriors of Delta Force. On top video quality settings, the player models are also drab...gray uniforms with shiny gray helmets fighting against dull gray buildings. The playability of the MP maps compared to MW2 and BO is poor. The only necessary MP strategy in MW3 involves a submachine gun and Extreme Conditioning (the Marathon Perk replacement). You can run around all day pegging the slow players. In exchange, their fast teammates will run around and peg you. It's mind-numbingly lackluster combat. Oh, and need we need to remind them that Matchmaking for PC sucks balls? I don't pay for 15mbps cable to connect to a host in France and suffer poor latency. Gameplay is the same as always, except that guns seem generally weaker. Sound is horrible! one thing that enjoyed about the FPS is how they 'try' to be accurate with the noise a certain gun makes. That noise gives the game some realism. This game however, is horrible! The multiplayer offers nothing really new (Team Defender is good though), the maps are terrible - disjointed, cluttered and lacking any flow or indication that thought has been put into them. There are maybe 4-5 decent maps (IMO) but others may disagree on which they are.

Anyway, my advice is: if you liked MW2, stick with it and keep £44 in your pocket. If you don't have MW2 then buy a second-hand copy of Black Ops which is FAR better multiplayer-wise. If you buy this then all you'll have is a sense of disappointment, a feeling of Deja-vu and a lighter wallet.

I think the COD franchise/series has reached an inglorious end as I can't see it recovering from the various developer upheavals. Sad day.

The graphics are twice as good, the weapon sounds are unreal (they vary based on the size of the room you're in, the material you are firing against, etc, and the maps take 10 minutes to run across on foot! If I wanted to play Modern Warfare 2 I would have bought Black ops, or the actual game.

Same game, same gimmick, same fans, and same advertisements. If you like rehashed maps, card board guns, and horrible campaign, this game is for you.

The gameplay doesn't flow like it used to and the maps prevent the game from being anything great. I'd advise renting or buying this pre-owned. I do not own a copy of Battlefield 3, not even played it. This is an honest review. Expand

Honestly the only reason i would get this game is because most of my friends got it. I rather just play black ops (The best COD) but now that i got Skyrim (best game that i have ever played on ps3) i have been playing that none stop since Monday and im still at the begining which is amazing. Thats actually worth 60 bucks mw3 is worth 29.99 at the most.

MW3 under powered kill streaks are useless when destroying air support kill streaks gives noobs a point towards their support streak which does not end when you die they can continue to build, so everybody has a stinger as secondary, but you assault kill streak are not stack able if you cycle through them with out using one..lets say i`m running UAV (3) care package(4) predator missile(5) and i get in a few gun fights before i get a chance to use my UAV & care package and get them again because kill streaks roll over if you don`t die, but i will not have 2 UAV`s or care packages even though i earned them...smh! is this the end of Call of Duty? maybe so if Black Ops 2 don`t bring a new engine & a new innovative game play to the table next year. This game is garbage, I wanted to like it but I returned it because I can buy MW2 for a lot less. I can't believe all the review sites that are seemingly getting paid off to give it good reviews. At least we the people can speak the truth!

This game is an utter disappointment. First off, they need to change the title from "Modern Warfare 3" to "Modern Warfare 2.5". This is basically a $60 DLC for an already stale game. Call of Duty 4 was the greatest game of the series...everything after has been downhill. What Sledgehammer admitted to doing with the MP was probably the worst thing TO ME that could've been done. They intentionally removed Sniper Maps in order to eliminate "camping". Why put in Sniper classes if we are not able to properly use them? I love to Run-n-Gun, but I also like to Snipe on certain maps. To pay $60 for a game and then basically to be told how to play it is pathetic. This is ridiculous, as Snipers are not "Run-n-Gunners". Sledgehammer also encourages people to "Quickscope", which is a major disappointment. This was a huge problem with past CODs, and for them to ENCOURAGE this is really sad. There are many issues with MP that need to be fixed, but Sledgehammer/Activision pretty much could care less since they already have everyone's money that purchased this game. This game doesn't even provide anything new. Everything looks the same and plays the same, with the exception of the sound. The weapons and explosions in this game sound cheap and dull...not even my Turtlebeach Headset could make it sound better. I am glad I bought Battlefield 3, although it has some issues that need to be addressed, but at least Dice acknowledges them and are fixing them. I hate you Activision for what you have done, and I really hate Sledgehammer for killing the COD game by taking out certain maps and encouraging that gay ass quickscoping. You guys suck and so does this game. I am one of CODs biggest fans, and I am sad to say, that this game sucks! Save your money and buy Skyrim. Expand

Ok. Had this game since release date but wanted to give them some time to fix possible bugs. I think 3 months is more than enough but OH, BOY... I won't argue about the "old mechanics". The fact that there is an audience for Call of Duty astounds me. This generic shooter is the same copy and paste formula we have been seeing year after year from Activision. With its low skill ceiling and over powered incentives this game lacks any variety what so ever. This game is more fitting as a map pack, a bad one at that.

Campaign Average, Spec ops below average and the MP holy hell I thought it was my internet that made the gameplay in mw2 totally unplayable but after upgrading and finding it infact made no difference I thought hit markers problems and constant lag problems, etc in mw3 wouldn't exist, but no to my disgust after playing Mw3 its the worst out of all of them. Mw2 had its problems at the start with unplayablity and Blops which I was patient. But to push out the tired ,boring and lazy turd and not learning any sort of lessons at all by just sending out a message or just tweaking it. Also making people pay for overpriced map packs and now cod elite after seemingly not fixing anything (and I can't seem them fixing it) after knowing full well most of the people buying it will be doing so for the MP, then this is , in my opinion offensive. The maps are to small and it seems as though there is too much going on at once. I have already started to go back to Black Ops instead of playing MW3. This game also has some positives though. The connection for multiplayer is greatly increased and is great. Overall, this is more of a Modern Warfare 2.5 than a Modern Warfare 3. This is not the change that I wanted and I believe that IW only put in minimal work into this game. I am a huge fan of CoD, but this is not what I wanted. Expand

Really disappointing. There was so much hype for this game, but once you play it, it just feels like a really expensive map pack for COD (insert ver. number here). There's a tangible insistence from gamers that this series needs to evolve, but it seems unwarranted when it still leads the FPS class. The engine's definitely in need of an overhaul, but when it comes to thumping set-pieces and addictive multiplayer design, Modern Warfare 3 is still in a league of its own.
