Werewolf: The Apocalypse- Earthblood may not be a game that’s going to gain widespread acclaim, but for fans of the World of Darkness franchise it’s great to finally have an outing that dives into the more wild side of things. If Werewolf: The Apocalypse is able to find its footing with Earthblood, then things can only go up from here. The old-school beat-em-up feel of the combat encounters steals the show, proving once again that some things don’t go out of style.

Despite Earthblood’s roughshot ride over opportunities to dive deep into the lore of Werewolf: the Apocalypse, the focused exploration of this end of the World Of Darkness manages to deliver a bloody good time when the claws come out. It's just a shame that some of the loftier ideas are let down by repetitive stealth gameplay and poorly developed mechanics.

So is it the perfect game? No, unfortunately, it is not. But if you like werewolves, are familiar with the original Werewolf: The Apocalypse universe, or just want to hulk around as a giant wolf throwing people around like ragdolls then it might be worth your time.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood is not devoid of charm, thanks to its rich universe and the possibility to switch from infiltration to combat with the three different forms. It could have been a good game with a further developed RPG aspect, less repetitions, and a more inspired story. Technically speaking, the graphics and animations — including lip-sync — as well as the AI feel outdated for a recent game. As a result, Werewolf is below average, and that's a shame.

Cyanide Studios once again manage not to raise the bar. This is a deeply average game reminiscent of cheap B-movies, visually awful and mechanically obsolete. But massacring your enemies as a bloodthirsty werewolf is, not surprisingly, quite fun.

While the concept of Earthblood is fantastic, the execution is not. From story to visuals to level design, the game feels outdated and uninspired. One thing I really like though is how it lets you choose between action or stealth.

An Action-RPG set in a gothic-fantasy-punk universe starring werewolves that tackles contemporary themes such as ecology was appealing, but Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earthblood fails everything it does. Both technically and playfully, Cyanide's game is a real disappointment. The adventure is repetitive, the gameplay uninspired, the narrative reduced to its simplest form, and the execution antiquated. Only the soundtrack and the clashes between lycanthropes save this once-mythical creature from complete sinking.

    I immediately wondered why?
Yes, the game has poor graphics for 2021, but since when does graphics affect game scores?
For me, the most important thing is the plot and the gameplay.
The gameplay here is gorgeous, the character has three forms, each of them is universal and designed for different purposes, reading reviews from critics, I don't understand how such gameplay can be considered monotonous at all?
And about the plot, I will speak briefly.
Yes, he is straightforward, yes, he is short, but that did not stop the game from making me cry after the end.

Don't look at the game as you look at all those big AAA projects, it is a small game with a good story, an awesome werewolf model, and a fight. Yes, the human models a less good animated, the stealth is not so good as I think it will be (since the game was made by the same company that made Styx), but still, it is just a good story, an adventure and I like it. It has a good story, at least, as I know the lore of WoD werewolves, it was easy to get into it.
I do hope people will not put these games into the trash, as they could if they will look and judge the game by AAA rules, and they find some good things that I see in these games.

Expand

I have been waiting a long time for a single-player werewolf game to come out. So hats off to you guys. What made me more excited was that itI have been waiting a long time for a single-player werewolf game to come out. So hats off to you guys. What made me more excited was that it was an RPG. I am getting enjoyment out of it. Definitely, a game I was going to get no matter what anyone said.

However, there are some flaws. For one...the graphics aren't the best but they aren't bad...they are decent. The graphics could be better (however, no problem with it). The camera when you're in Crinos form can be kind of janky, it's somewhat bad. Hard at times to keep up with enemies with the camera movement. I feel there need to be people being torn to shreds when you're in werewolf form. Not just blood-splattered and that's it. The only time there is blood and gore and bodies being torn apart is during executions, when the werewolf bites the head off. But other than that, there is no bodies being torn to shreds, to limbs all over the place, etc. Just blood being splattered that's it.

The voice acting could be better. I feel like you should be able to do stealth kills while in Lupus form and the Homid (human) form should have more weapons to use. I feel players in an RPG should really be encouraged to play as they like for example...they need to be more encouraged to save going into Crinos form as a last resort. As well as being encouraged to use it when they like instead of waiting until the "Enrage" message pops up. There could also be a meter for the Crinos form to recharge, that way they don't use it right away. Also when you throw an enemy, the effect could be better because right now it looks like you just threw a stuffed animal at the enemy when the one being thrown makes an impact. It needs to look like you actually threw a person not a stuffed animal.

I also feel like the transformations could be more realistic. Like when your character turns into a wolf or a werewolf...there needs to be an actual transformation...not that he just morphs and that's it.
Another downside is that the game isn't Open-World, Sandbox-Free Roam, Action RPG...it's just an action RPG. I feel an RPG Werewolf game should be an Open World, Free-Roam RPG. As well as character creation. Maybe even more Perk trees.

However, the story so far and the soundtrack is great. The gameplay and mechanics are good but they could be better. The graphics and voice acting need improvement. There should be more options...maybe even a mode where you can try to take on as many waves of enemies as possible. Even a snapshot mode/mechanic.

So far I give it a 7/10. I enjoy it but there are plenty of areas where the game needs to be improved on. Hopefully, the next game that comes out, touches up on that. Hope this game opens the door for more single-player, action RPG werewolf games to be made. Hopefully, one that is an open-world, free-roam, sandbox, action RPG. With better graphics.

Werewolf: The Apocalypse - Earth blood isn't anything Earth shattering.

Graphics: Despite the many complaints I've seen about the graphics, I personally take no issue with them. They aren't Godfall graphics but they're entertaining enough to get the job done. I liked how the rooms I cleared would be drenched in enough blood splatter to fill 10 tubs.

Story: I feel like if you're not a WoD werewolf fan ( A Vampire fan myself) or an Eco nut (I'm not), you're not really going to like or care about the story. While playing, I found myself rushing through levels and secondary missions without a second thought to the story just because I'm a Completionist. The story wasn't enthralling enough to command my attentions.

Characters: The Characters had some okay voice acting, but the personalities were rather bland. The character dialogue was clearly not written by a word savant, but I guess the voice actors did the best they could with the pitiable rations given to them.

Combat: The combat was a bright spot in the game. It reminded me of vampire the masquerade redemption's combat system, tho this one was much more fine tuned. I had fun slaughtering, dismembering, running around with and committing specialized executions on my prey. The only thing about the combat that somewhat annoyed me was when enemies I killed would rise again as new versions of themselves. Nobody likes fighting the same enemy twice. The stealth/open combat approach was also a nice touch. For people who prefer not to kill unnecessarily when they rp, they have paths and missions to sneak past obstacles while keeping the blood flow to a minimum or you can wholesale slaughter everyone in sight if you're feeling blood thirsty (like me). I also feel I should correct something I had seen in another review on the web about there being no reward for sneaking around-- There are indeed achievements for killing no Innocents and disabling security measures with stealth tactics.

All in all it's not terrible, but it isn't something I would replay just for the sake of it. One play through was enough and I don't feel like I wasted my time in that. If it gets an expansion I'll revisit it, but for now it's going to collect some dust in the library.

The upgrade system doe not upgrade combat nor anything outside of combat, its such a waste. The AI slides on ice skates when i melee them. Tons of nps with the exact same character model. The story swears you know the lore from the last game. This is a 0. Expand
