    Wonderful game. I was extremely skeptical because of all the hype, but after trying the demo I was convinced to give it a try. Let me just say that I started the game in the AM, and kept on playing until I beat it late into the PM.

    Game has a wonderful ost, interesting world filled with characters that you genuinely begin to care for all tied together with a pretty great story. I was a    Wonderful game.     Game has a wonderful ost, interesting world filled with characters that you genuinely begin to care for all tied together with a pretty great story. I was a really big Mother 1 and Earthbound fan growing up, so I pay attention when a game gets compared to one of them. It is my opinion that Undertale deserves much of it's praise in that regard, as it does a pretty well job of nailing the happy go lucky aloofness along with some darker themes.

    Oh, and the boss fights are pretty **** rad. Not sure what else to say, if you are mildly curious check out the demo, it is a pretty sizeable jaunt and can give you a good idea what to expect.

    This isn't one of those games where you can judge just by simply looking at it. It's a game you have to actually play for yourself in order to judge it.
    This is honestly one of the best RPGS I have ever played, because it isn't your typical RPG. I loved just about everything about this game. I love the gameplay, I love the music, I love the characters, I love the story.

    This is honestly one of the best RPGS I have ever played, because it isn't your typical RPG. I loved just about everything about this game. I love the gameplay, I love the music, I love the characters, I love the story.
    It's a bit on the short side. but it's still very great. It has a dark and emotional story with witty humor. The characters are memorable and the gameplay is fun. I would recommend if you want to play a RPG that's different, or you just like a good story.    … Expand

    This game is great. Undertale has a amazing atmosphere once you begin playing. This is because (due in part to) the music is **** AMAZING. The game was too short (2 hours and 14 minutes...). Combat has three stages throughout the game. Nice and challenging, Pattern hell, and utter **** But it's not too much **** to make it unfair (felt like it at certain parts however). All in all, it's one of the best games of this year and at least top 15 to me. It has a high replayability (must be the games length).     I have not had an emotionally evoking game like this in a very long time; the last i can remember feeling this way about the game was through another indie game, "To the moon", and i can say that both are very masterfully crafted with story in mind.

    My one Gripe with this game is that ultimately it is far too easy. I have heard talks about a "Hard Mode" being in the works by the developer, but even some of the tougher fights were easy enough to figure out and didn't take up too much of my time.

    I'm going to make this very blunt ; The soundtrack of this game is some of the best i've heard in years. I can only think of a handful of songs that are not exceptional. Definitely the best retro soundtrack we've had in years.

    If you're looking for a RPG with solid writing, outside the box thinking, and the best retro soundtrack in years, i highly recommend picking up this game.    … Expand

    The only real complain i have is that sometimes the humor falls flat, other than that this game is worth every penny. while it has some deep roots to the rpg genre (Mother series, Final fantasy,etc) it is very easy to enjoy even if you've never even tried this kind of game before.     What a lovely indie game. Story and characters are interesting, combat system is innovative. It is a game redifines the meaning of story telling. The punishment for S/L also catches me.

When the intro starts playing, it does not look like anything special, but it's the characters and the choices and the paths you choose that makes it special.     The complexity and richness of story makes a great deal with this one (specially the endings), not perfect ranked only cause it was a little floppy mid-game. Awesome experience tho.

    Now THIS is what an indie game should be. A unique game with a fresh perspective on age-old video game tropes. Complete with charming characters, a fantastic soundtrack, a fun battle system, and incentives for multiple play throughs.

    I look forward to whatever Toby creates next.

    This is a really good game. I hate to be caught up with the crowd, but I recommend getting it. I've played it. Immensely satisfying, considering the game caters to most personalities. Even the murderers. NOTICE: NOT A FANBOY OR SOME **** LIKE THAT!

In fact the game themselves have some relation. A silent protagonist travels, solves puzzles, while being kept somewhere against his/ her will, and finding that an evil rules over.... Looking even further at this we see Portal being incredibly innovative and creative with the standards of FPS's. And Undertale being incredibly innovative with RPG's. There is also a mimetic sequence in both games where a character talks about a food, and that sequence won't stop being talked about in real life. Also both these games have endings that will make you reconsider what a videogame can truly mean. I'm an avid suffer of juvenoia, and love believing that the age I live in is the ultimate age of gaming, so with that in mind I would like to propose the notion that games like these are the equivalent to what Citizen Kane and 2001: A Space Odyssey meant to movies. Again this is a mere opinion from someone who isn't a devote follower of the industry. I understand that this may be just a product of the times, but the amount of people who love the game so fast shows something. These games seem to have confirmed that they are classics at the bare minimum, only time will reveal how they hold up. This review has been 40% review, and 60% pretentious speculation, you're welcome.A game that wasn't really seen as something that would leave a huge impact, but did so regardless is a game worth talking about. I feel that the lack of pressure to churn out perfection is what lead to, as many people say, perfection. I wouldn't go so far as to call it perfection but it certainly works for what it wants to be. It seems like Undertale was made by people who never knew about movies, TV, or books because all the comedy in this game comes from sheer interactive choices. The timing is also great, even though you choose the next sequence, the game does so much to make dialogue and interactions last a long time. The gameplay kept me invested and truthfully I felt very moved by the ending. Everyone has said this but I do feel that the fact that it was our decisions that ultimately led to the creation of our relationship with this world makes it all the more sweeter. If you just showed a predetermined course where the character goes, you lose some of the impact because it becomes less personal. This truly is a game that only works as a videogame, which shows the true beauty in this game.… Expand

    I like this game for it's derpy sort of humor and deconstruction of stereotypical jrpg games. When someone says something "deconstructs" a medium they mean that the piece is pointing out some standard technique or situation in the genre that the deconstructing piece is in(this is often done humorously or used for emotional effect). A deconstruction of that would be something like your character saying "ack blood in my eyes again!" (After all, why would your character's vision become red from being shot in the torso?)
    A word of warning, deconstructions work best if you have a decent background in the genre the deconstruction is taking place in. You won't understand or appreciate the deconstruction as much if you aren't familiar with the standards of the genre. A lot of the references and clever tricks will sail over your head.

    To me, this game is mostly about being quirky and deconstructing jrpgs/breaking your expectations for this type of game. The graphics are not that good (however I've never been one to care about such things). The humor in this game is mostly punny/"bad" humor. I quite enjoy this type of humor but others may not. A bonus is that this game is very cheap so you don't have to worry about wasting your money if you don't like it (if you're so strapped for cash that 10 bucks is a big deal you probably shouldn't be buying video games).    … Expand

    Okay let's be honest here for a second.Undertale is undoubtebly one of the most contoversial game since a long time.I have one major problem with what people say about it in general

    This is not a game that is supposed to be THE BEST GAME EVER (as some people would say) from the very beginning .It plays with what the player knows about RPGs and games in general , but you have to finish it at least twice to really get it and say whether you like it or not .I've seen so many stupidely over or underrated reviews of this game by people who didn't even play it or not enough to pronounce a judgment.

    Personally, I really enjoyed my time playing it , and it don't feel like I have the perfect opinion or whatever but play it before saying good or bad things about it . ^^

    Oh yeah and the fandom sucks a lot , it's really impressive    … Expand

    This game is changes the typical fight, nou you can evade the attacks. Has got a good soundtrack, very original but the graphics is a FAIL. The bosses seems to be a fair mode from Dark Souls. Very good game.

You will struggle to see the best in others, and because of that you will be rewarded by witnessing their vulnerabilities and flaws. The ending that this all culminates in is incredibly touching, and many moment may bring you to tears if you allow yourself to become invested in these characters lives. There is an insightful array of meta-narratives that put to question assumptions and conditioning people are put into from most video games. This is the only video game that has brought me to tears.

    Art - While minimalistic, the art style is well used. Characters have just enough detail that their expressions and unique flair can be put succinctly on display. There is an interesting meld of several retro art styles, running the gamut between 8 and 32 bit pixel art. The art really isn't the focus of this tale, however, and while could have been tighter in some areas, did not seem like an area of improvement necessary to advance the narrative.

    Sound - It shows that Toby Fox is a composer. The music, while not all 16-bit, has a consistent retro bent. Almost every character has their own theme, and this goes a long way into adding to their personalities. There's an old saying in the game development business that music is 50% of a game. If that is the case, Undertale has that half locked down.

    I only have a few complaints. One is that the pacing in the early stages before exiting the first area of the game called the "Ruins" was a bit too slow, padded by a few too many puzzles and random encounters before catching up to what I would call the real story. Another is that there is perhaps not as much resolution in the default ending (although I can see why from a thematic reason this is the case, to encourage more play-throughs).    … Expand

    A really solid game people argue that the game play lacks but i believe that this game goes off of personal patience the characters are definitively immersive and overall a great game check it out if you love adventure filled story

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is indie RPG game which was looking bad first time i started playing it. But later on it literally was calling me to play it. The game is nostalgic one reminding you to games like Mother games and other older RPG-s. I have played the game twice in 2 different ways and i can say that i was not bored at all playing game 2nd time. Every boss fight is fought with different mechanics so it's not repetitive. Usually i am not fan of this games but this one has really got to me. The game is not short but it's not long either still it's playable more times so i highly recommend this game.… Expand

    Despite the graphics it-s an awesome RPG, Amazing soundtrack, and most important of all, it has the true spirit of quality rpgs, highly recommendable, don-t be deceived by the estetic, i hope it gets to consoles sometime now

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a really cool game, adding 2 new buttons that I was thinking "Why didn't they add those two buttons sooner?" Those 2 buttons are the "Act" button and the "Mercy" button.

    CAUTION: SPOLIERS AHEAD!

    This game has many, diverse bosses, from Tortiel to Papyrus to Omega Flowey, there are many jokes in the game in the game also, from the puns that Sans makes to jokes about quantum physics. Overall, great game, it's worth the $10 dollars that you use to buy it.    … Expand

    Can't see how this has over 400 negative reviews. It's hard to see how people can dislike this game. I can see them not enjoying it, but I can't imagine them hating it.

Fighting gives you EXP, but it also serves to take you down the Genocide path, which is basically the bad ending. The Pacifist Route,    This is quite an interesting game.     Combat follows a sort of bullet-hell mechanic, which is different from traditional JRPG combat, where you can basically dodge everything.
    The story is fairly simple, but I think it's pretty good.
    The characters are all varied and likable, and they all have their own quirks and stuff.
    The humor is good, though may come across as sort of childish.
    The music is well-composed and catchy, some of the tracks are incredibly good and varied, also, most of them are le motifs of each other.
    All in all, a solid game. If I had to make any complaints, a few fights are a bit annoying, and the visuals do come across as a bit poor.    … Expand

    This game is almost a masterpiece,storyline and characters interesting and original concept,great soundtrack,but pixel graphics repetitive gameplay and small flaws spoil everything but they are closed eyes from pleasure when playing.

    This game smack earthbound in the head, but both are great! The Bullet hell like Shmup system to dodge is really smooth and fixed, heck, the three ending's are great! but I give it a 9 because it isn't all great, there are flaw's, but the game is one I play over and over and over again to just show even after the 600th time, it is still fun!!!!!!!!!

    I just recently bought the game after watching a few videos to see what it was about and I was able to get it one sale. (whoo) I don't think it the best thing mankind has been blessed with, but as far as I'm concerned its a pretty well put together game and I enjoyed most aspects of it other then than its unforgiving save point/checkpoint feature

    I have wrote a review of the game some weeks before, and i said that i don't like the game and some other things. Now i finished the pacifist run and i watched the genocide run on yt, in my last review i putted the game a 7 but now i'll give it a 9/10 because for being so simple, it can make you feel bad, cry, laugh...

    I played Undertale for the first time on its release date back in 2015. It was the first game I ever played through the whole night, without sleeping until I completed my first playthrough. Even after waking up the next day, there were so many other things to explore in the game, including the different endings, and I couldn't wait to jump back into it.

    Amazing moral system, hilarious characters, and runs smooth as butter. Only complaint is the lack of varying strategies to use, but other than that, is something Toby should proudly boast about.

    Fantastic. Story of this game is amazing. It’s really a one of the kind experience in RPG games. It’s really heartbreaking to be honest. I don’t want to spoil the fun to anyone so I highly recommend playing this yourself.

    I would say that “undertale” is one of the best games I’ve ever played and easily one of my favourites.

And whether you choose to take the path of a true pacifist or the "genocide" path, this game will rarely fail to entertain you in one way or another.
    Now, while this is without a doubt one of my favorite games right now, the only problems I had were that some of the characters either didn't have enough information or it was too vague (W. D. Gaster gets a pass since this was done on purpose.), particularly Chara. The vast majority of the community has been lead to believe that Chara is some sort of homicidal maniac - now don't get me wrong, I see where you're coming from with that belief - and in fact, the small (in comparison) number of people who don't believe this and in fact were against the so-called genocide path are seemingly silenced out; and we too have our fair share of evidence to lead us to our conclusion!
    The other problem is in the true pacifist ending. When you "save" Asriel, you're not given the choice or some sort of way to convince him into returning to his family. Now, had we been given that power, the true pacifist ending would be a true ending to me - Asriel getting to see his family again, and to know he'd live on the surface in the end...
    Well, other than those 2 points, I don't have much to say about it critically speaking. Great game, great soundtrack, almost worthy of calling it a 10/10. Good work, Toby Fox.    … Expand

    Undertale doesn't impress you the same way most games do. At a first glance, the graphics and pixelated art style can be off putting for some people, the gameplay is unconventional, and it looks like a retro game that should of been released in the 90's. It's hard to believe I'd have this much fun interacting with 2-D characters, but Undertale proved me wrong. The soundtrack is one of the most iconic I've heard; each track is unique, yet it sticks close to the theme of the game. The setting is full of life, encouraging players to explore the worlds many interesting aspects. Because of its 8-bit style, the graphics are either a hit or miss for people. In my opinion, it fits very well with the game, though it can be unimpressive at times. Because of this, the game may not appeal to everybody. In the end, Undertale is a spectacular indie game that raises the bar in storytelling and proved to me that 8-bit pixelated games are still worth playing today.… Expand

It’s there but you hope no one goes to see what’s inside. If not for this third main ending the game would truly be perfect. Games are meant to be fun, and designing the route to this last ending to be as unfun as possible to prove a point is not good game design in my most honest opinion. All in all, Undertale is one of my favorite games of all time. Just remember to Save the animals, and leave it at that.

    I love all the characters, and you can really get emotionally attached to them. This is a game where each and every character has their own hopes, dreams, goals, and fears, even the minor characters that you randomly encounter. Everyone felt just felt real. The story is really effective, and it also makes you think. Undertale makes you feel things that popular games today may not pull off very well. This game was emotionally moving in so many ways, and the really amazing music helped so much.

    Now, sadly, there are flaws with this game, just like any other game. But for this case, I feel like the only flaw is the bland graphics. For me, however, the amazing story, characters, lore, and music more than make up for this.    … Expand

    I know some people will think I am riding the hype train with this game. But I went in blind. The only reference to the game I had was my ex who was preaching about how cool the game looked. So one Steam sale I purchased it and played through it, and oh my goodness I am glad I did. The idea of a morality choice based on the player’s actions isn’t a new concept. It had me thinking of Silent Hill 2 with its subtle morality choice just to get an ending to the game. However knowing that our choices matter is what makes a game more immersive. However this game has drawn a colorful cult following. Which is why I usually dislike communities, they tend to ruin the experience. But I digress; this game is amazing.
    For $10 you get roughly four hours of gameplay if you don’t know where you’re going. If you do it’s shorter. The game messes with you in a way that it manipulated the save engine so that it will have you thinking something is wrong. The best way I can explain that is this; think about Eternal Darkness with its sanity meter. As it goes down strange things start to happen which confuses and freaks out the player. Toby Fox used this to his advantage. As for gameplay, it looks like a typical RPG however you have the ability to doge enemy attacks like a bullet hell shooter. You can spare or kill your enemies, attack or talk. It’s your choice. However the morality system is over hyped in this game. But it is an Indie game. So any high expectations are ludicrous at best.

    I will not ruin the story, but it is a sad yet cute one. It had my heart feeling a tad bit weak. Then I played LISA which killed my heart. So this is the light story compared to the depressing stories of RPG’s. You’ll meet a cast of loving and goofy characters. Make a ton of friends, and will have to play the game more than once to get certain endings. That’s about the only complaint I have. If you want a complete pacifist run you have to play the game twice. Sure it increases the replay value, only because you force the players to do it again.

    Anyway, if you’re looking for a game that is good for kids, cute, or just overall a time killer. I highly recommend this game. It’s not as well hyped as people make it, but it does deserve some of the praise it receives.

And the boss battles still provide a good, fun challenge, and one gave me quite the adrenalin rush!

    Its sense of humour also is pretty specific and up to personal preference. While I find it hilarious, there are others out there who might not, and that's fine. Overall, I would strongly recommend Undertale to anyone, gamer or not.    … Expand

And there is like 7, or 8 different endings and that makes the gameplay time about 70 hours. Undertale will make you cry, Undertale will make you laugh. I maded a stupid thing, and played this game in this summer. I was kinda bored and got awayed from the games, and camed back like one year ago. I was dont knowing why I passed away for a little, but Undertale reminded me why: Because i was bored of seeing the same things again and again. With undertale, i reminded how its feels like to play an "Art", like Half-life. It has a lowerprice on steam. So you should get it now and play. You will not lose a thing.

    So; is there nothing bad about this game? Yes there is:

    • Like i said, it has so many different genres on it, but if you dont like even one of them, you can get bored because every single genre has a big part in the game. This is the disadvantage of having this much genre in one game. I had that problem in puzzles, i dont like and cant do puzzles even in games so that little puzzles tooked a little bit more time.

    • Game sometimes gets pyscho. Exactly "Flowey". When you saw flowey boss fight(good ending, after last boss fight-boss fight) after that lovely world; trust me, you can scare a little bit.

The charm and stunning soundtrack threw me back to my own teens, when I played and loved nerdy-but-cool JRPGs like Chrono Trigger (of which this reminded me, not least because of the catchy tunes). That said, this game felt thoroughly unique with its mixture of catchy writing, endearing charm, soulful humanity and sheer backasswardness. At times disheartened by the bullet-hellish challenges too frustrating for my old-man reflexes, I was nevertheless filled with DETERMINATION and managed to rediscover that home is where the heart is.    … Expand

    Wow... just wow. Not only is this my favourite RPG, but one of my favourite games of all time. If you like RPGs, GET THIS GAME RIGHT NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T YET.

    Undertale, grafikler vb. nedenlerden oyuncuların şans vermekten kaçındığı bir oyun durumunda. Lakin şans verildiği takdirde neredeyse tüm bağımsız oyunlara karşı olan ön yargıyı yıkabilecek bir yapım.

    Indeed a masterpiece. A sad, emotional story with somewhat creepy and disturbing secrets that reveal lore part by part, which still has many questions. I only gave it a 9 because of the unoriginality with soundfonts, which some were taken from Earthbound. I'll let you play it, just don't learn more about the game right now to not get spoiled.

    Wow,that's pretty good.Musics are amazing.Gameplay is nice ,
    you don't need to kill any creatures you encounter in the game (you only kill one of them in training).

    Masterpiece.
    No seriously, Toby Fox is a genius. To create an unusual, unimaginable game, and even with such an approach to it, is very impressive. In addition, the soundtrack is simply one of the best that I have heard in all the games I have passed.

    Great addictive fun, and a timely palette cleanser amongst all the other battle royales. Mediatonic have a slam dunk on their hands, now the question is can they keep it fresh and interesting moving into the future.

    I was suprised, when i saw how many ideas can u put into one sigle game, and its jrpg. Toby Fox is genius. Every single charakted got his own sould, music in this game is masterpice. Combat system could be better, this is why its not 10/10 game. Plot is fantastic, you will find a lot of esteer eggs, many hiden mechanic, and what is most important, you can be who you want in this game.

This is a 2D “bullet-hell” RPG created by one talented individual, Toby Fox. First off, the soundtrack is sheer perfection in this game. The seamless blend of multiple themes into single songs, the sweeping synths and hilarious oddities, Toby Fox has absolutely nailed the world-building music that still tears across the internet to this day. These characters immediately grab your attention never let go. The story is well-crafted, introspective, and one of the most memorable I have ever played. The combat is fun and challenging, and while it’s not my favorite, it gets the job done.

    What I can’t talk about here is what you need to experience for yourself, which is basically everything else. A must-play gem.

    Undertale is absolutely mind boggling if you can find some way to experience the game completely blind. I personally did not get the luxury of that, however even I have found some enjoyment in this game despite partially knowing what I was getting into.     Despite being a single player game, the difficulty is in the right place for most people to get into it and not feel frustrated but also not easy to the point you lose interest. Even if you are a hardcore gamer, you will still have to focus on avoiding attacks.

    The story is completely unique and very little can even compare to it's design. I will not spoil how it works, but almost everyone can find some sort of meaning to Undertale's story.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is simply one of the best games I have ever played. I've never really played a game where your actions affect the game AFTER you reset it. I love the option to play a genocide, pacifist, or neutral run, and just how much the actions actually affect the game. In terms of gameplay, it is very simple, funny, and fun. I have 9 hours on the game and have done a true pacifist and neutral run. I got the ending where Undyne becomes empress and I killed Papyrus.… Expand

Bir gün, bilinmeyen bir sebepten dolayı insanlar ve canavarlar savaşmaya karar vermişler.

    Benim oynamışlık sürem 30-35 saat oynadım gezdim falan yan etkinlik yapıp 2 sonu yapınca bittiğinde beni gerçekten tatmin eden pixel bir oyundu karakterlerde gayet iyi yazılmış boş karakter yok dieyebilirm. Hemde gamepass+Steamde var ve ucuz aşırı ucuz bu kalitesine rağmen.

    With multiple endings based on how you choose to play out your run, set pieces that can play out very differently based on your actions and so many incredible moments that we’d love to share but daren’t do so for risk of spoiling anything, Undertale is easily one of the indie standouts of last year.

    Through a combination of often relaxed but sometimes tense gameplay, a dreamy atmosphere, and genuine characters that feel like they’re actually alive and all living together in this isolated society of longing, Undertale transcends its medium and becomes a genuinely moving experience I would recommend to anyone who is open to a sometimes sorrowful, sometimes hilarious, always bizarre and engaging emotional journey.
