    When I first started playing Undertale, I thought it would be boring. But I got very attached to the characters on my first run, and I got very emotional towards the end. Undertale has permanently changed how I treat my friends and family, and is one of the greatest games I have ever played.

    I don't usually play games like Undertale, so I dragged my feet in getting it.

    I was wrong. This game was amazing! Quirky, effortlessly fun. The morality system, characters, and replay value all contribute to this being one of my favorite games this year. Not only that, but I feel like this might be one of those game that even people who aren't traditional gamers can get into.     Heart. It can mean a lot of things, even in games, in Undertale, a heart is used to display your soul, but it represents so much more than that. When a game, especially an independent game is given so much time and effort by the developers not just to improve quality of the game itself, but to improve the experience of the players to something better than we could ever hope for. I myself am a long time fan of turn based RPG's, and to be honest, I'm a bit of a hack and slasher, someone who enjoy's combat more than anything else in a game... Undertale gave me more than just a great battle system, but a story and characters that are even better, I won't post any spoilers in here, but if you are someone who enjoys rpg's at all, I implore you to give Undertale a chance, no matter your age, or rpg preferences, you will love Undertale.… Expand

    Honestly, when I first saw this game, I wasn't too interested in it. I was watching my roommate play this game when I saw Sans pop his first joke. I honestly lost my **** because of the way Toby Fox played that scene out. Soon after, I continued to watch my roommate play though the game, all the way up to the Flowey fight. I was hooked with the game. I then purchased the game for myselfHonestly, when I first saw this game, I wasn't too interested in it.     Before I start, please Note:
    Going into Undertale the only thing I knew in Advance was that in order to get the good Ending you needed to resolve every encounter in the game peacefully.

    First impression:
    Well, at first the game just seemed rather average, although it's unique look appealed to me.
    The Combat was, of course, very easy at this point and I already got the impression that peacefully resolving everything in this game will be challenging, frustrating, but fun nonetheless.
    That impression changed when I got out of the "Tutorial" and met Sans and Papyrus.
    Suddenly the game threw fantastic, funny and, if you dig a bit, deep Characters at me.
    At this point in the game there is no big story arc yet, so you just take whatever the game delivers to you.

    And let me tell you:
    What it delivers is nothing short of amazing.
    But....Sorry fellas, if you're you want to know more about the story, go buy the game.

    Some might say that this game is having minimalistic, even horrible Graphics, and you know what?
    That's true.
    Does it matter?
    Not at all.
    This game is so charming to just look at. The Character Models are all well made as well as all the environments in the game.
    The Sound design is really fitting too. Even though the Characters don't have actual voices, the tone that they make while speaking is giving you a good impression how it would sound like if they got Voice Actors.
    That way though, everyone is giving them they're own voice, which makes the experience more personal.
    Kudos also to the environmental sound design since it does it's job really well.

    You know what else deserves Kudos? It's Soundtrack.
    It features over 100 (!) tunes and is nothing but amazingly well made.
    They match every situation in the game and can make you happy, angry or sad.

    Let's get puzzled.
    This game has "puzzles."
    Quotations because most of the time it aren't really puzzles in the way a fully fledged puzzle game would present them to you, but in a way that is understandable for everyone.
    They even have an explanation to why there even are puzzles that is chained to the story in some way though, so not giving that away. - A quick look at the game's Inventory System. You can carry a certain amount of items, which can be found in the environment or be bought from traders. Other way around you can also sell stuff you found for gold, from which you buy more items etc. In some places in the world you can find boxes in which you can store said items. These boxes are all linked together so you have a lot of room for items. - These items also include: Weapons and Armour. Throughout the game you can find all sorts of these. All of them naturally serving a different purpose, with they're different stats. Even if you play peacefully, equipping a weapon can get you a nice bonus like an HP Regeneration every Round. - Fists up, let's talk combat! The combat is really fun. It's best to be compared to bullet hell games, where there is just a ton of **** trying to hurt you from every direction. Fear not though, it's far from being that hard or simple. Let me explain: When you run into a fight the game offers you four different options. - Fight - Act - Items - Mercy If you choose to fight, you damage will depend on you equipped weapon. The game will then flip into a sort of hit-the-button-at-the-right-time type of thing. Basically you have to hit one of three lines to deal damage, otherwise you miss. Act is where the peaceful part comes in. Depending on the enemy, you can persuade you enemy into not wanting to attack you anymore or to check it's stats. Items is pretty self-explanatory. From there you can view you Heal-Items. Mercy only applies to the peaceful players and after persuading. From here you can mercy your enemy and let them go which will result in no EXP gaining. After each action the bullet hell begins. You'll have to doge a wide variety of really creative things in order to not get killed. Whether you're flying while doing so, or jumping, it's really fun and challenging. (It can be frustrating sometimes though) - - I could talk about this game so much longer, but I'm running out of Characters ._. I'll close the review with a clear recommendation to buy this game. It has Charm. It has good Characters, It has a good Story which expands below it's surface and is actually very dark. It breaks the 4th Wall within the story. Is it flawless? No. Do these flaws disturb the experience? No. - That's why Undertale gets a 10/10 from me. - (First Review :3) -    … Expand

    This is one of the few games that makes me cry. Multiple times. It knows what it wants to do and does it incredibly well. People take all these pot-shots at it because they don't want to accept that a game they haven't heard of managed to outscore their longtime favorites despite being made by very few people. All I can say is that everything FITS. There isn't a single point that feels like it's just flavor. Everything feels... real. It feels alive. Everyone in the game feels like an actual person and not a game construct. The gameplay and story are integrated so well that it blows my mind. My words could not do this game justice.     I can't believe how much this game changed me. From the characters to the epic story. The music, well i could listen to it ALL day every day. But, really this game is amazing, if you haven't played it yet then please give your time to at least try it.

I have never felt more in touch with a build up of a persona when Jacksepticeye was doing his passive run, at first i was turned off to it due to graphics and how the play style was, but as he got further and further, making friends and exploring more of the funny, in-depth world that under-tale gives. Sad to say it is just another rpg when you go thu with the genocide run and you wont quite get as much connection with the realm if do so. With that being said do passive first then genocide, ..... ALL THE FEELS… Expand

    It's one of those games that don't look good. We get it. But the story is amazing - you get attached to the characters. It's full of fun little surprises. It's comedic, it's hilarious, it's clever- or you can choose to turn the game into hell. There are so many different options that change the future. It's really just your choice.     Toby Fox knew what he was doing every step of the way. I'm really appreciative of that, and for the fact that the game could have been only 2 hours long - but the donations for it were 10 times that of needed, so I am really grateful everyone could turn something so small into something amazing. This is truly my best game of all time and I refuse that I will ever give up on my love for it.    … Expand

    Undertale is a game that knows when to be quirky, when to be tongue-in-cheek, and when to be morbidly, unrelentingly dark and real with you. When in the end, a character asks you to think about my actions which led me to that point, I realized that my blind adherence to genre tropes have led me to chose a sociopathic decision at the very beginning...and I felt genuine remorse! In the end,I opted to finish the game on an imperfect run, thinking I would just restart - instead, the game treated me to the most disturbing finale and boss battle I ever had...AND organically enticed me to replay it the way I truly wanted to! What else? Characters are deliberately anachronistic or archetypal, with notable exceptions...but Fox manages to paint a beautiful tablou on that single dimension some characters have.

    Gameplay 9/10

    Within the limitations of a retro RPG engine, the big names of the industry struggle to innovate. Toby Fox doesn't struggle - he embraces the limitations and combines a challenging bullet hell mechanic with a standard turn based system. My recommendation for all new players is to forget about the EXP bar, as battles offer a purely skill-based and not loot/EXP-based alternatives. Puzzles are somewhat of a stumbling block, in that it takes a while for them to become a mechanic, rather than a spoof of adventure game puzzles.

    Music - 10/10

    Bonetrustle, Muffet's theme, Megalovania...my God, the music is so good in this!

    Undertale isn't so much as a game as it is a story, an experience, and a very amazing tale. The pixelated style is amazing, and the scenes are so well-thought out. Depending on what route you take, you get so many different dialogues. One choice can change the whole game, and not just for that one time you play it, but many times after that.     I love this fantastic game. The moral of the Pacifist run and how Genocide gives everyone the feels. Its just so wonderful to see the game sprouting after all these years. Hehe. You can go live without any harm done. Its so unique how you can just free everyone instead of fighting them to the death. Lovely, 10/10.

    when i first started playing this game i had decided to do 2 runs, one peaceful one evil. But after playing this game through just 1 time, i could not get myself to do an evil run, this game is so amazing, at the end, i got hit by a feels bus. i really came to feel for the characters in the game and i have never had this much feels from completing a game, this is a 10/10 from me.     this game is nothing less than beautiful, it raised10x more then its original Kickstarter goal, it can stand tall and proud next to super big RPG`s of the year such as fallout 4 and witcher 3 and yet, to me it surpasses both those games combined but then again, this is coming from some random guy on the internet I suggest you just buy the game yourself and see for yourself

    I don't know how to describe this game. It is the first game I have ever played that made me truly care about the characters, and I've plated a lot of game's. Basically Undertale is fantastic, if you haven't yet, go play it!

    This is hands down, the best game I've ever played, it gives a sense of childlike wonder to the player, with it's quirky, yet lovable and relatable characters, captivating story, and a seemingly clairvoyant way of playing with your emotions, then instantly setting you at ease. I enjoyed the hell out of it. And highly recommend buying it for yourself.

Sure, I could sit here and say that the writing is humorous and creative, or that the combat system is unique and inspired, or that the story leaves a lasting impression that I didn't think could be fit into ~6 hours of play, but it still does not do the game any justice at all. While the graphics and typical RPG gameplay may be unassuming, there is a treasure lying just beneath the surface; a treasure filled with lovable characters, surprisingly deep moments, and a soundtrack that you'll be humming to yourself for months or even years after you're done playing.

    Overall, it's just really difficult to put in words why Undertale is so good. It really needs to be played and experienced to have the full effect. It's honestly one of the best games I've ever played, and anyone who rates it less than a 5/10 is either spiteful, ignorant, or they just plain don't like RPGs.    … Expand

    Well, I created this account simply to give my vote on this game. It's so perfect that it cannot even be described in words. Play trough the entire game before you decide to rate it. Many people claim their games are art but this is clearly the closest to it.

    Graphics, music, gameplay, all are simple, and all are memorable and fun. But that doesn't matter. The fact this game brought me to tears, made me feel genuine sadness... I've never had a game do that to me before. I've never once gotten to experience that real feeling of being a villain. Of wishing I could make a mistake, that I could be defeated. I was cheering for my opponents all theGraphics, music, gameplay, all are simple, and all are memorable and fun. But that doesn't matter. The fact this game brought me to tears, made me feel genuine sadness... I've never had a game do that to me before. I've never once gotten to experience that real feeling of being a villain. Of wishing I could make a mistake, that I could be defeated. I was cheering for my opponents all the way, but they were never strong enough...

    I played it again after that, and suddenly every painful moment became one that made me laugh. It was a different game. I was having an adventure with my friends. I've felt happiness like this from games before, but it is a rare thing. And it doesn't usually last this long, this joy. But even without playing it, I feel like they're still living their lives and having fun.

    Art is all about manipulating and stimulating your thoughts and emotions. That makes Undertale the greatest work of Human art to this date.    … Expand

    Parte de la magia de la escencia de undertale esta en la sorpresa es imposible hablar de el sin arruinartela asi que intentare spoilear lo menos posible pero es recomendable primero jugar el juego qunque sea imposible no spoilear si se podria decir spoilear un juego basado solo en sorpresa.

    Undertale consigue contar muchisimo con "pocos recursos" que no engañe la estetica y el humor ya que tambien toca muchos temas.

    La premisa de undertale es muy simple puedes pasarte el juego sin tener que matar a todo a lo que haya por delante, esto hace que haya diferentes finales esto no es un sistema de karma solo es ver el juego desde otros puntos de vista manipulando la opinion de todos del jugador.

    Lo mas interesante del juego son los combates si se le podrian decir combates,nuestro enemigo estara en primer plano donde pondra nuestra alma en un cuadrado, en esta podremos atacar o podremos actuar que en cada combate las acciones son diferentes insultar,llorar,cantar,hacer un chiste ect en cada accion que hacemos sea atacar o una accion se aprende algo del "enemigo" tratandolo como una persona no como un mounstruo si no como una persona tratando de convenserlo ,segun la accion que hagamos el "enemigo" se pondra mas enojado o simplemente no atacara si se "amiga con nosotros" podremos perdonarlos y solo ganaremos oro y nunca nunca podremos subir de nivel (siempre tendremos 20hp) en cambio si los matamos ganaremos "xp" y con mucha tendremos mas "AMOR".

    Hablando del "sistema de combates" es mas que eso son como mini-historias cada una cambiada por las acciones del jugador.

    Todo lo que haces en undertale tiene una consecuencia literalmente todo combates desiciones ect.

    El juego siempre esta en cambios constantes lo que hace que no sea necesario farmear ect,

    Otro punto fuerte de UNDERTALE es la banda sonora tiene 100 canciones y minimo 30 son joyas que hacen lo que quieren a la perfeccion,(sentimientos terror felicidad ect.) (Diciendo que practicamente la hizo solo una persona)es musica simple minimalista facil de tararear y pegajosa.

    El juego sabe lo que hiciste y guarda practicamente todas tus acciones guardes o no guardes una nueva partida o un load.

    La mayoria de personajes son simples pero tienen muchisimo mas trasfondo de lo que parecen hasta los vendedores tienen una historia pero lo mas importante es que parecen reales se nota en algunos detalles,como cuando toriel llama cada minuto para preguntarte si necesitas algo o te paso algo o cuando pregunta si prefieres canela o caramelo y te pregunta si no es que no te gusta (opcion que elegiste) y si lo comerias si lo tendrias en un plato.

    Otro punto que me gusto es que es Creativo y "REALISTA" (diciendo que es un juego de fantasia) es de los pocos que son de fantasia y no son tolkien como por ejemplo el vendedor si,tiene un boton para vender pero porque piensas que el te va a comprar algo el solo quiere sobrevivir y lo hace con un local de comida/objetos

    El juego atravieza la Cuarta pared constantemente como flowey sans y (otros personajes con los guardados) los puntos de guardados cuando te dice que te llena de determinacion ect no le hablan al personaje te hablan a ti.
    es casi imposible criticar mal este juego ya que hace tan bien lo que hace bien lo que hace que solo encontre unos pocos fallos...

    It is hard to find a game like this, where I am both amused and impressed by what happens. Everything from the music to the story, from the various dialogue changes within the game based on your actions to the quirky charm of each character really drew me into this game.

    The music is fantastic. It's heartbreaking when it needs to be and catchy whenever it wants to be.
    The details in this game are spot on. Every sentence is thought out and it's not until later you realize the hidden meaning behind all of them.

    A friend recommended me this game after I told him I received a $20 steam card for Christmas. I previously had only seen the cover of this game when scrolling through the Steam store.     When I first began the game I didn't know what to expect. I enjoyed the atmosphere and simplistic, yet nostalgic art style and the characters I encountered. The story was very lighthearted as I explored the pleasant underground world. The feels built up heavily inside of me in the most unexpected times. I found myself talking to every single NPC in order to experience more of the slight humor. And the music. Oh the music. I can't even begin to explain the beauty of the music and how it matches so perfectly to the moments you find yourself in the story. The entire journey was entertaining and, while some criticize it as slow, was a very peaceful and fulfilling experience. The ending, of which there are many, which I experienced made me cry like a little baby child over the sheer beauty of it. And I have only but scratched the surface.
    It was after playing through the game which I fully grasped the scale of the profound artistry which filled the entire game by its motifs, tropes, and symbolism. The weight and moral implications of murder, even in a digital world led me to hours of philosophical reflection. The emotional grasp the game puts on you with its characters makes you care for them and understand their and all of the other monsters struggles and desperation. The often hinted ideas of what it means to truly be a "monster." The sense that you are in a world much bigger and more complex than yourself.
    I know I am rambling on, but oh man was this game the best and most refreshing title I have played in a long, long time.
    Buy this game and experience it for yourself if you are into rich, story based gameplay.

    When I first started playing this I was like "meh", graphics were not the best and the story (at the start) seemed boring. The reason why I started playing this game was because my friend recommended me it because it had a good story.     I have found and all the easter eggs and secrets in the game too, I've done everything there is to do and I still have an urge to just do another run just because it is just so fun.

    In conclusion:

    Buy this game, now.

    This is one of those games that comes about only once in a Generation of Gaming, UNDERTALE has a perfect blend of Humor, Game play, and all around Charm that nothing this Generation has had up to this point, and it was made in GameMaker: Studio no less! My personal Game of the Year 2015.

    Plot: 9/10. The plot is definitely one of Undertale's strong points. I'm not going to spoil it, but I do have to say that it makes you really care about the characters (even the ones you didn't know existed until 30 minutes ago), with a few teary moments.
    Soundtrack: 100/10. No, I'm not kidding. The soundtrack to this game is freaking awesome. Music always fits the area you are in, and you'll find yourself listening to Spider Dance over and OVER AND OVER again. Oh, and Megalovania.
    Gameplay: 9/10. The gameplay on the overworld is almost exactly the same as all RPG's you will have ever played, but its the battles that stand out. First of all, and most importantly, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FIGHT. Yes, you can just talk it out with an enemy instead of fighting. That alone changes the plot drastically, but another thing stands out; its bullet hell-type gameplay. Instead of just generic turn-based strategy, you actually have a chance of surviving an encounter with an enemy without getting hurt, which I felt was a nice change of gameplay.
    Graphics: 8/10. Not this game's strongest point, but definitely unique, with different pixelated styles seen throughout the game.

    I am in love with the story in this game. I could not possibly do it justice here, but I absolutely encourage anyone who is looking for a puzzle/adventure game with a beautiful plot to look no further.

    Best game I've ever played by far. You really need to play the whole thing to understand the full story, as well as do a bit of research, but it still feels complete if you don't. It's just a shining example of what a game should be, amongst all of the high budget, regurgitated plot-lines that have come out in recent years.

    I really liked Undertale and I think all the hate it gets is undeserved. Just because a game has huge glaring flaws, predictable plot, almost no replayability and gameplay which fails to capture interest after a few battles doesn't mean the game isn't perfect!

Every monster, from the ones you face in battle to the NPC's have strong and hilarious personalities. There's Sans, a pun loving skeleton with more behind him than youI started playing this game knowing nothing, and that's the way Undertale is best played.     I came into this game thinking that this was a normal RPG, unaware of the idea that you can talk your way out of every fight, believing that in the world of RPGs, its KILL OR BE KILLED. This is probably the best game ever.

    Not only does Undertale convince the player that the world is NOT kill or be killed, but, if you do end up killing a lot of monsters, it punishes you, even to the extent of making you fight the most overpowered boss fight that at least I've ever seen, Sans (The game says, if you check him, that he is the easiest enemy, with 1 attack, 1 defense, and 1 hp).

    However, if you complete a run without killing anyone and befriending everyone you fight, it rewards you with what I believe to be the most satisfying ending in any video game ever.

    Lastly, Photoshop Flowey (Omega Flowey) is the most insane boss fight to get a perfect run on. I've been trying for at least a week to get a damages victory on Omega Flowey, and I haven't even gotten past his first phase. (Either that or I'm just horrible at Undertale.)    … Expand

Among corporate flops and copy-paste idea game, this game gave me the hope that there is still innovation and creativity in gaming, and for once made me look to the future (and the indie game shelves).     the game is unabashedly, unapologeticly Harsh to both the player, the character, The RPG industry as a whole and even the bad guy... it EARNS it's place as the Best game of 2015... and maybe the decade. If you play Pacifist Rout... YOU WILL BLEED for the ending.

    Great game, characters you can remember, fun, can complete in a few hours, if you like to play games similar to earthbound i'd recommend it! there's multiple endings, one where you create peace between the two races, monsters and humans, and another where you kill all the monsters. You'll have to find out the rest for yourself!

Its music is memorable, and WILL get stuck in your head. It almost seems Toby Fox has thought of everything, as many different play-throughs of the game are possible to see allUndertale is a wonderful, thoughtfully well-written game.     There is no way to explain Undertale other than spoiling the story. It is crucial nothing inside the game is revealed because everything, as in EVERYTHING is part of the story.
    It is a game where you can either spread peace and hope or despair and death.
    It is a game where you get to make friends with everyone in the game.
    Also, dogs. This game has a lot of them.

    As a big fan of RPG games new and old, this game certainely blew my expectations across the universe and back. The story is gripping and emotional at times, the simplistic graphics are reminiscant of classics like Earthbound, and the choice between sparing and killing monsters really changes the story.

    I heard great things about this game and ended up buying it. I went in blind, not knowing what to expect. I barely got past the intro before I fell completely in love with it. It's so charming, unique heartfelt. I just want to snuggle every character.

    This is the first game made me cry like a baby, I couldn't stop for a few minutes. It was amazing experience for me and I think It brings new unique piece to the game genre. Those who just started the game and wandering "what's so special about it, why they give it 10/10?" then you might justify that after you finish it. Especially after finishing it following the advice:
    "Be good won't you?"

    I think it's almost impossible to have played the game fully, and not be in love with it. The story is not the core of this game, but the way it's told and all the charismatic characters make together the most special game I've ever played. And the graphics perfectly fit the kind of game UNDERTALE is.

Every character archetype and every game mechanic that you'd expect to see in a    UNDERTALE is the single best deconstruction in video game format that I've ever played, handily beating out the excellent "Spec Ops: The Line" for that title.

    This game (for all intents and purposes a passion project of a single developer) takes the classic RPG experience and scrutinizes everything about it. Every character archetype and every game mechanic that you'd expect to see in a classic RPG title is picked apart and flipped head-over-heels, sometimes subtly, but often in mindbogglingly creative ways.

    Everything in the game feels purposeful and inspired; no lame fetch quests, grinding or other filler content here. The story itself is relatively short, likely spanning only single-digit hours, but the branching story, the multiple endings and the creative deconstruction of the SAVE/LOAD mechanic makes for a lot of replay value. Though the bulk of the story is laid out for the player over the course of a few main routes, there's also a lot of hidden content beneath the surface.     With multiple endings based on how you choose to play out your run, set pieces that can play out very differently based on your actions and so many incredible moments that we’d love to share but daren’t do so for risk of spoiling anything, Undertale is easily one of the indie standouts of last year.

    Through a combination of often relaxed but sometimes tense gameplay, a dreamy atmosphere, and genuine characters that feel like they’re actually alive and all living together in this isolated society of longing, Undertale transcends its medium and becomes a genuinely moving experience I would recommend to anyone who is open to a sometimes sorrowful, sometimes hilarious, always bizarre and engaging emotional journey.
