While there are mountains of praise to be poured onto a game this rich and a company that earns it's keep while treating it's player base with respect, there is little I can add to the sea of love this game receives and rightly deserves. I think the most meaningful thing I can share is what is most meaningful to me in the time I spend in enthralled abnegation.

The little things. While the game has massive and detailed set pieces, a vast landscape and expansive writing that could never be overpraised, it's the infinite little touches that amount to so much more for me. There are hundreds of nods to minor characters, quests, and choices in previous games, subtle humour that is never out of place, references to all levels of game culture, subtle views into the souls of the characters through minor narrative elements made evermore compelling by beautiful voice acting, and constant reminders that the world in which you adventure is truly alive. From the tail slaps of the blue wales in the Skellige Isles to the uniqueness of each hidden ruin. Every thing has a story, a personality, a life of it's own, and it's all worth exploring.

There is no effort needed in falling for a true labour of love. A love so evidently shared by every level of CDPR's team. From playtester to CEO, there is not an individual there that does not possess the company wide unity of vision needed to produce a game this beautiful.

Thank you CDPR for reminding us what a lovingly crafted triple A game can be.

The Witcher. How do I go about reviewing this. There are a lot things to consider. First of all that the company that made it is incredibly small team, think about that for a moment, a game with a tenth of the crew of GTA V managed to be this good.

The Witcher 3 is massive. Possibly THE largest open world game to date and it is filled from top to bottom with content. Every side quest is fully voiced and at times even bleed into the main story. These are the best sidequests I have ever seen. That's difinitive. The best.

-Characters from previous games make their appearences here with choices from previous games making large changes to the world. If you haven't played the previous games then don't worry the story is surprisingly easy to get into. The Story is great so I'm not going to spoil any of it for whoever goes and buys this game. It must be said that it is the highlight of the game though.

Graphics despite having a large downgrade for console performance are still very good. You know that when there's an option to have every hair in the world have advanced physics no expense was spared. But if you were planning on having max settings this I will have to dissapoint you. Even with a powerfull PC I could still not get above 50fps on the lowest settings.

-Gameplay is notably less clunky then in previous games but I think it should be reviewed on its own. It is still clunky. When playing the secondary character you will understand that this was intentional. The character is an old man of 100 something years. Even so I would have still enjoyed a much more fluid movement.

    Cons:
-The horse. This may seem stupid but the horse is extremely important to get you places so it should have been mostly bug free and such. No. It is by far the buggiest and worst AI in the whole game. In a game with excellent AI the horse stands out as a wet piece of excrement in an otherwise almost flawless system.

-There are also a host of bugs throughout the game that are almost inherent to the open world genre. Being Cdprojecktreds first venture into open world with such a small team makes this a bitter pill to swallow but still exceptable.

    -Load times, nuff said

That's it. No really my only problems with the game are the horse, the load time and the bugs (which knowing CDprokekt will get patched). In a game this expansive if that doesn't tell you something then you might need help.

Final verdict. 10 out of 10
My problems with this game were few and far between and it is well worth your time and money. There are a host of things I didn't mention in this review because it is already extremely long but rest assured that they are all positive. This coupled with CDprojekts' policy of free DLC (yes you can have your horse armor and keep it too) The game soon will be worth this rating. but as of yet with many bugs unfixed it is still a 9.5. By the time of the enhanced edition (which will probably be free) release I'm sure that if I could I would be handing out an 11 out of ten.
So Whaddya waiting for. Go buy this game. Now.

It's been a while since a game came along that truly redefined its genre. The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt is just that and will be remembered as such. This game is a must play for any RPG fan and has set a new standard that I doubt many games will be able to match for a long, long time. Go experience the game for yourself; there's nothing else to say.

It has story oozing out of every nook and cranny. The world feels alive and constantly delights you with small touches no matter where you are. The combat is a bit stiff and even at the highest difficulty it feels.....easy, provided you take the time to spec intelligently. Gwent is incredible for what it is, a card game played against NPCs. That mini-game alone has provided more enjoyment to me than several games that I have spent tens of dollars on.

Quests are....enjoyable? Who would have thought that was possible. NPCs are quite enjoyable even though at times they are repetitive as is to be expected by their "small" budget. Patches come swiftly and for the most part effectively. Performance is nothing to complain about, aside from Hairworks, its hard to find a reasonably powerful system that can't handle the game with the right settings. Crashes are almost nonexistent even the day of launch. Add in an NG+ mode and I'll likely double my already triple digit play time once I finish the story.

Absolutely without a doubt, my favorite game to come out in many years. Dark Souls 1 or perhaps Morrowind, in its own time, are the only games comparable that I can think of. Skyrim/Oblivion, Fallout 3, Mass Effects, Risen....Played them all and if I played W3 first, I'd likely have felt them sterile on many levels. But that is a discussion for another time.

10/10 would write this entire review again just to enjoy thinking about the game some more.

pps: Just read some bad reviews and concluded that these people don't have the right kit or haven't set their controls.
I have had NO issues with controls with Keyboard and mouse. The game has NOT been locked down for Consoles, the PC version blows the Console version out of the water. As a reviewer below has the same card as me, we cant set it on max settings, though he gets a frame rate drop on Hair, but I set Hair works down a click. MOST gamers know to lower settings to start a new game and change to get a balance.
Standing on a cliff over looking the Sea while a thunder Storm rages is amazing, lightening streaking around you and the clouds bubbling and the sea crashing,, it is Great Graphics, and Not on Max.
My only gripe is that If you pick Triss, I wish there was more of her.
    But, it IS Awesome.

It was an unique experience and one of the main reasons was Geralt's relationship with his ward Cirilla.

This is a game meant for mature audiences. We need more stories with substantive family dynamics. Be it mother and her son, a father and his daughter. This is how you create emotional impact. Similarly the evil characters such as Crones were truly chilling. I have not seen anything quite like them

Visually the game is top notch, voice acting is brilliant and every side quest has unique elements. There are no fedex quests to speak of unless you count the treasure objectives but they are completely optional. I can not recommend this game enough for any person who loves a good story but you should definitely purchase the earlier Witcher games in order to enjoy it fully. Catching up will be difficult otherwise.

Frankly I had no reason to believe this game was anything more than an overrated cluster**** of dated game design like the first two. I eventually gave it a try and I'm damn glad I did. Since I'm giving this game a ten, I'm going to start with the bad. Yes, this game does have it's fair share of problems. This is going to be a detailed review so feel free to skip to the parts you are most interested in.

    graphics 8/10
First of all, CD Projekt has put out yet another game with very beautiful yet very inefficient graphics. I don't want to get into specifics but the framerates on every machine I've seen it run - are incredibly inconsistent. Even on my gtx 960 there are places I simply can't go without having to tolerate sub 30fps, and the gorgeous weather effects are sometimes outweighed by the wild fps drops that come with them. The one thing I can't excuse is the lack of the ability to change the lighting quality. That said, the graphics are incredibly gorgeous when everything clicks and most impressive of all is the seamless transitions between day/night/rain/indoors/outdoors/etc. The detail put into every model, the limitless jaw-dropping vistas and great facial animations all serve to quickly enthrall you in the universe.

    UI 3/10
Not going to dwell on this. The UI is total **** The map doesn't let you zoom out nearly enough; there are no arrows on the world map pointing to the objective; inventory gets cluttered quickly and gives you zero tools to sort/filter/search. The most unforgivable sin is putting all 200-300 of your crafting diagrams in a single, verticle line with no search bar and no filters. It doesn't even have to decency to filter out digrams that the artisan can't craft. "Happy scrolling mother****er" -CD Projekt

    Lore 10/10
I'm going to lump sound, backstory, main plot, and presentation all into this one. At no point in this game does the music fail in its ability to immerse you into whatever it is your doing - whether its exploring, fighting, or just playing gwent. The writing is consistent with the previous games boundless cynicism and sarcastic wit. It can be very annoying sometimes, but for the most part it carries a very solemn tone and an uncensored look at the devastation of conflict. The voice acting is moving, and the game always finds a way to hit you with remorse in whatever it is you're doing. Moral issues in the game are very grey, sometimes too grey; but never fail to leave you with emotions afterwards - and often emotions you don't want. In terms of the experience, it's unrivaled by any game of this generation. Lore in general is rich and consistent, and not overly pushy about reading the countless pages and manuscripts found throughout the journey.

    Gameplay 10/10
Gameplay is the classic area the Witcher series falls flat on it's face. This is the first Witcher game who's combat isn't held back by dated design and an outright bad overall vision. The signs have been much improved so that they all feel useful, and the monsters are dynamic that you aren't forced to use a single repetetive process. Bosses are no longer a matter of simply dying repeatedly until you've memorized all the one-hit-kill animations (Finally). Potions can be taken in combat which rewards players for thinking on their feet rather than simply punishing them for not expecting to be jumped a certain enemy. Yet with the new streamlining to combat, the game still rewards you for being prepared and still rewards you for knowing your enemy. The balance between the two is spot on, and it's both immersive AND fun. While the game does sometimes feel a little over-dependent on enemies stun-locking you, the best experiences this game has to offer are the times when you encounter a new monster. Every monster (and there are MANY) has some unique surprise that makes the first encounter something special. Frankly, the best enemy design I have ever seen. Ever. Character progression is also incredibly rewarding. Items feel unique and powerful, lots of appearances, and skills to facilitate many different playstyles. Gwent is the best minigame ever, as opposed to dice poker which was arguably the worst minigame ever. The world is big, fun to explore, and full of unique places to go. Pacing is brilliant. Shopping also is very immersive as most visits are a relatively even exchange as opposed to just pawning hordes of loot like most other rpg's.

Last note - bugs are uncommon for a game this size.

Overall, the game is more than the sum of it's parts. The experience of playing the game is on the level of a masterpiece and it's problems don't detract enough from it to make me feel any differently. It's hard to describe in words what playing this game is like. All I know is that every session -even over a hundred hours in - makes me walk away feeling like I have a story to tell my friends.

I had never played any of the Witcher games before it, but I was still able to hop into this vivid world and almost completely understand all the central conflicts of its story. There’s even references to things that did not even happen in the previous games, but in the novels on which the game is based and even those were easy to follow.

The decisions are by far my favorite part about the game. In addition to the normal dialog choices you make, there are also decisions of critical importance which have a time limit on your decision, my favorite of which is whether or not to throw a baby in an oven during a side quest. The choices you make generally are not as grandiose as they are in the Mass Effect series, but are in many ways more interesting as they do not follow a good and evil binary. Often your choice is between two options which are not all good and not all bad. The effects of your choices is also sometimes not seen until much later in the game, which ends up being pretty neat.

Romance in this game is pretty great, although I still think the first and third Dragon Age games have my favorite romance options. Your main decision is between two Sorceresses, Triss and Yennifer. You have tremendous backstory with both women, which is given to you as you go along and, I assume, if you have played previous games. Now, originally, I thought I would hate that as the blank slate character I normally get in Bioware games allows me to just pick my favorite character in the game and romance them, but this decision is a lot more complex and allows the player to come up with their own point of view for whom Geralt is and what he would do in these situations. Geralt, as a result, is way more three dimensional than Shephard, the Inquisitor, the Grey Warden, hell, even Revan. There are plenty of other romance offerings as well and more nudity than I think I’ve seen in a game of its caliber.

The combat is also incredibly complex, but only if you choose for it to be. I started the game on easy and had no problem with anything, but decided later on I wanted some complexity and cranked it up so that I had to learn the interactions and exactly what I was doing. While the combat certainly isn’t the centerpiece for the game, I always found it fun and more exciting than in some Western RPGs. The idea of toxicity and every potion being helpful and harmful at the same time is extremely interesting and on my next playthrough of the game when the next expansion comes out will certainly be potion-based.

If you have played Final Fantasy VIII, you have played the best mini game in any video game I have ever played. Triple Triad still might be a bit better, but Gwent gives it a run for its money. Its simplicity makes it easy to learn but it becomes more and more complex over the course of the game. If I had one gripe though it’s that you become totally OP in Gwent as the game goes on. Once you’ve gotten the Geralt of Rivia card, you’re basically unbeatable. Supposedly the Blood and Wine expansion might add more complexity to the game, which I am quite excited about.
The game is not without glitches. One treasure hunt I did left me stranded in a remote castle and the way I got through it was to run into an invisible wall and fall until I was off the edge of the world and then it let me fast travel wherever I wanted. Roach (Geralt’s horse) also has some significant glitches in what he can cross and in his animations for a lot of actions. While technically not a glitch, Geralt gets shipwrecked in an area that takes several days to reach by sea and as soon as you can control him again in this new area, you can summon Roach to you, even though there’s nothing to suggest Roach was even on that boat. It was a bit tacky, but I still preferred having Roach there rather than not, so I think it’s 100% forgivable.

TL;DR - While there were certain flaws to the game, this game is actually so incredible that I cannot fault it for them. It made me question the blank slate character BioWare always gives you and finally presents a true competitor to their Western RPGs. Gwent rules and so does Geralt.

I could write a long spiel about all the things that The Witcher 3 does brilliantly, from its world design, to it's writing, music, and voice acting, as well as its core gameplay, but you've probably read all that a hundred times before, and it's no secret that it's won over 200 GotY awards. The hype is real. The Witcher 3 is simply one of the best games ever made. If you like high quality games, TW3 is absolutely worth your time and money. Play it.

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
