Get quest, use witcher sense to examine a few clues, follow footsteps and kill something - rince and repeat. Game is beautiful but really repetitive. Story is ok, but very slow.

I've been a fanboy since the Witcher 1 and reading the books right afterwards, and man, CDPR did it again.
Every small dialogue puts everything Bioware and others have made since the Witcher 2 to shame.
The game takes you serious, let you make decisions because YOU think,it's the right one. And not an icon telling you "good" or "bad" Sure, the game looks good, sounds good and plays

On the plus side : The gameplay is solid. The open universe is consistent, well structured and quite beautiful. The city of Novigrad is big, credible and alive.
However, beyond that, the game has a lot of weaknesses :
    - In terms of gameplay, from time to time you will control another character for fight scenes. Since the character is overpowered, there is no challenge and no interest to those sequences that you will suffer till the end of the game.
    - The difficulty in the game is not consistent and you will find hard press to kill one lonely Archgriffin when on the other side the end boss is a piece of cake.
    - The main plot is quite bad. It's not epic at all. It's not well written. It has no rhythm. The ending falls flat.
    - The secondary quest are for the most part not related to the main plot. A big parf ot them are generic and very mmorpg like. By the way, this mmorpg feeling is emphasized the equipment design. Differents colors for common items, magic items, rare tiems, relics, sets. The game boast a large panel of weapons and armors with no soul and identity.
    - A part of the secondary quests are there to bring back sides characters of the last episodes. However, most of the time it's a botch job and you can't help to feel that the characters are juste here to male a cameo.
    - Most of the side quests consiste of getting from point A to point B to deliver something then suffer a ton of dialog where your choices will not have a great impact on the game except deprived you of more dialogue if you choose to be roleplay and refuse to do something. So you will take every quest in fear of missing some great part of the story that will never come.
    - The game introduces a concept of points of interest that you can see on the map. At first you will find it interesting but it will quickly become repetitive and boring.
    - Your choices and decisions have less impact in this opus than in the previous ones. Only one choice has a true impact on you game experience. Some choices do impact the destiny of countries or side characters but you don't feel a big connection to what happened because it happens a the end, does not affect your experience when you play the game. You can affect the end of the game but the mechanics behind it is very silly (when you read some walkthrough to undesrtand why you get one ending instead of the other). However don't feel sad if you had the bad ending, go to youtube and watch the other endings like everyone else. Don't play the game again since it has no replay value like the previous one (The Witcher 2).
    - Some will object that a big part of the plot is the father/daughter relationship between the two main protagonists. But this relationship is so weak that its feels like a bad tvserie. It's also true for all the relationships between Geralt and his lovers.
    - Speaking of choices, you will discover that the choices you made in the previous episodes have no significant impacts on the story. There are only some cameo apparitions. The saddest part it that the whole "Temeria plotline" does not take into account "The La Valette heirs" and the choices you might have made in the previous episode.

I can see how the game has mass appeal. It's simple to play and 35% of the game is basically a good movie that you just watch rather than play. You have very little actual control over your character. The unresponsive movement and zoomed in field of view are the reason I don't play console games and ruin this title for me.

The audio is breathtaking and it really pulls you into the game, the game play and combat is fantastic, nowhere near as clunk as the previous witcher games, my only critique is that while on horse back you can get stuck behind rocks and on stairs which was fairly annoying but a small grievance none the less.

Its a witcher game, so the story is always gonna be amazing and it really is.

Its a shame the graphics took center stage and that cdpr didn't do anything about it, even just owning up and letting it fade into the background.

Overrated is a good word for it. Advertising your product is important in this day and age, you need to promote, you need to make sure people know of you and what you've produced. That being said when marketing is employed to fabricate value when its job should be to simply promote an already valuable product, then you should know something is not right. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. its pretty...it has story...(kind of?)...

so if you played the first 2 you know this game has story potential coming out of every orifice. gerald died and was revived and because of the revive completely forgot his past. Now hes finally tracking down his true love..

plain and simple sure the game has its moments. Yet i feel like I'm playing assassins creed or shadows of mordor all over again... in that there is just to many pointless things that have nothing to do with anything scattered around the world..

I mean SURE you can collect those "PHAT LOOTS" all day long because of this... Alas I find my self utterly bored just trying to do a few things here and there. I'm not one to forgo side quests but making them a complete requirement to progress the main story is utter hog wash.

Leveling you character is too slow. do side quests or dont play on any setting other then easy. The bugs abound.. half the way points that you have to do in order to progress bug out and this is 11 patches later. graphical errors abound.. god forbid you want to jump over a fence while running or on horse back..

i wanted to love this game sooo much, because i utterly love the first 2... the 3rd how ever is utter garbage rolled up in a garbage bag full or runny disgusting baby diapers. If only game company's would stop releasing alphas and calling it a completed game... /sigh

prepare to be frustrated, there's sooo many bugs in this game.. and thats with the 1.10 patch.

I was forced to create a metacritic account immediately and post my review of the Witcher 3 after seeing the 9.2 user score and 94 metascore on here. A (94!) total metascore is proof of widespread corruption in the PC critic industry.

First of all, just got a brand new computer and the game looks great. In my opinion the graphics are 9.5/10. however, after reading other reviews and talking to friends, they say the textures and environments get recycled a lot, which if true would change my score (I uninstalled long before being bored with the
    graphics of the game)

    Major cons:
The CONTROLS and MOVEMENT for this game are downright unplayable. The main character is extremely clunky in ALL areas of gameplay. my first thought is that this game would play well on a console controller but mouse and keyboard is just sad.

CUT SCENES are noticeably too long. every single one of them. and there are TONSSSS of cutscenes.

    Combat is pathetic.
generally consists of pressing a target selector key that highlights over your enemy. once locked on your character has their movements on a track with the targeted enemy. if an additional enemy comes from the side or behind you (and they ALWAYS do) , you take a hit and it HURTS. attacking consists of left clicking and having your character do a huge lunging attack that leaves you super vulnerable. it cant be canceled? you can't really aim your swings. you just click and swing. also, all abilities and swings have a noticeable delay in activation time.
you basically have 3 modes of attack for the first 10 hours of gameplay , 2 of which are completely ineffective.

the character customization in this game is stone age.
you can chose from fast swords slow swords crossbow and BASIC magic.
crossbows are one of 4 possible skill categories to chose from and it does virtually 0 damage and is 0% entertaining to use. skill credits earned go into skills that raise attack bonus and effectiveness, no cool abilities or skill tree, just pick your weapon out of the 4 and mindlessly put all your points down that skill "tree"(column)
there are very limited and uninteresting spells to choose from, and switching spells in combat is really a drag.

the alchemy system is tedious and annoying to use but has potential

the story is quite average. i want to rate the story lower but they definitely tried to make it really good. all the cutscenes remind me of many of the popular HBO series with slow paced but deep and profound character development. however, the execution is just TOO boring. Your main character is so 'ho-hum'.

difficulty balance is all over the place.
you use your "witcher sense" for EVERYTHING. you will go around right clicking every 4 seconds to see if there is a glowing object such as a lootable chest or quest item. its VERY repetitive.

it totally feels like this game was made specifically for console. the combat seems intuitively catered to a controller style game. this pc port was extremely poorly executed in the mechanics department.

94/100 metascore!? wtf. please wake up.
this is a 4/10 or worse on the PC.

I don't play games because I want to pretend to eat, drink, and sleep. I don't play games because I want to maintain a piece of **** sword that needs repair after every fight. This game treats me like an abused spouse that has to take out the garbage constantly. Poor level design lead me into situations where I had to laboriously keep playing a boss fight until I could use that last sliver of health correctly. Even if someone has a fix for that, all the other things in this game annoy the living &$)@& out of me so badly that I don't care. I can run faster on foot than my horse!

Not to mention it does not utilize neither VRAM (1.3 / 2gb on medium/ high settings??!) nor CPU (70-80 % AVG) Conclusions = BAD CONSOLE PORT. Add to that an awkward and insufficient introduction to mechanics and an expectancy that the player spends time to collect ingredients, the locations of which are unstated, and create oils and potions in preparation for each major battle, the occurrences and details of which are often unknowable beforehand. In general, the game would have done better as a book, from which it was indeed adapted. Expand

The game looks nice, and it's a nice cinematic experience. The actual game though is very unimpressive. The combat in all honesty is a spamfest. I don't feel like skill is involved. Spam Spam Spam win. Gets very old very fast. The AI is also horrible, you can enter someones house and pick up a quest then rob everything in the room and they will quite happily watch you do it withoutThe game looks nice, and it's a nice cinematic experience. The AI is also horrible, you can enter someones house and pick up a quest then rob everything in the room and they will quite happily watch you do it without complaint, people will just blindly walk into you if your mounted, they don't walk round your horse they just walk into it, its bizarre.. Its an ok game but wait for the sale. The amount of 10s is disturbing though. Gamers are happy with anything it seems. Is it hyped on twitch? is your favourite streamer telling you its great? yes? then its a 10!!!! its not. Its really not. Expand

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
