The game is well optimized and run great considering how big the world is and the landscape, lightning and faces details are gorgeous. As for the gameplay, it's head and shoulders above Witcher 2, very pleased especially about how smooth the combat is, and the story is so damn immersive that I have to cut this review short and get back to it. So many things to do in a truly grandiose open world grander than anything you've seen before. Expand

Game is amazing, and that is for real. If you heard about downgrade .. yeah it's done , but game is beautiful ! One more thing CD Red said , they will unlock assets from 2013, so if you have min 980 gtx for 30 fps max here you go. In my opinion haters are people under 13 unable to play W3 on their pc.... sad but true.

One of the best RPG's I've had the pleasure of playing. It has really really breathtaking graphics, and I'm surprised how well it runs on my GTX 660, the card being the minimum specs but still running on high in solid 30 FPS. The story is really compelling, and gameplay-wise it plays really smoothly, with little minor problems being movement, for example Geralt strafes forward in a whim when you tap the buttons. The world is truly open, with satisfying content all over, the loot gets you feeling every time, not spoiling you though.

What can I say, I love it, therefore it deserves a 'ploughing' 10/10!

The four year wait was worth it. Although some issues are present, such as the lack of a truly open world, the game has one of the best stories, music and graphics ever presented to players. The combat system has been improved greatly, and the sad, depressing and gray world of the Witcher 3 will challenge your moral stands more than once throughout the game.

Probably the best open-world RPG and best RPG in 10 years. An excellent world-building, story, and choice-system. The combat system isn't as good as Dark Souls, but definitely challenging and enjoyable. As for the graphics, while downgraded, they are still stunning. A must buy if you are an RPG fan.

Have spend a decent amout of time in the game. It is outstanding! Congradulation to all the devs! The game is refined almost to the last detail. It is by far the best game of the last decade!

I have an Alienware X51 with GTX 670 and game runs in 35-40 FPS with all Ultra except Shadows and Hairworks.

Things that need fixing and not so perfected:

The music is perfect, but there's not enough diversity. You end up hearing the same tracks repeated endlessly for hours, until you get to Skellige. Let me get this out of the way. Despite the "downgraded" visuals, this is the most visually stunning open world game I have seen so far. I am constantly stopping my horse and telling myself "Geez, this looks amazing!".

What's really incredible is how well it looks and performs with modest hardware. My i5 3570k+R9 280 handles the game just fine at 1080p with every thing set to Ultra except for shadows and foliage distance (set to High). Had this game been developed by Ubisoft, you would've needed a Quad SLI/Crossfire set up to run it at 720P with only half the draw distance.

There has also been claims of the game crashing. I started playing with patch 1.03 and have not had a single technical issue the 18hrs I've played so far. Can you say the same about any other AAA title out there? CDProjectRed needs to be commended for delivering such a solid title, specially when you consider the scope of the game.

Gameplay-wise, this is truly an evolution of previous Witcher games. The stories and environments are familiar but in a much grander scale. Complex political machinations are delivered in a simple enough way that even a simpleton like myself can understand, yet do not sacrifice any of the entertainment value.
The combat is much better than previous titles. Don't expect tight controls like Dark Souls, but it is fun and satisfying enough to stop it like feeling like a chore.

I could go on forever talking about this game and how good it is. I really could! But let me just say it has been years since I bought a game that has made me stop my life just so I could play. The Witcher 3 has exceeded my expectations in every way.

I have 28 hours of playtime under my belt and I can honestly say this is the most fun I have had in a video game in over a decade. A single player video game, even longer. The Witcher 3 is a 10/10, CD Projekt Red has hit a home run with this one guys.

The main difference between this game and other RPGs is the quests are all wonderful. Every side-quest is well thought out and fun to complete. There is absolutely none of that "kill 10 x and loot 8 y" nonsense that plagues modern RPGs like a pox. Everything I have experienced in this game has been consistently enriching and enjoyable. The Witcher 3 even comes loaded with a full-blown TCG that is associated with quests lines of its own that span the entire continent. I have enjoyed traveling from village to village to challenge innkeepers and win their special cards as much as I have enjoyed hunting monsters during witcher contracts.

It has been a long time since I felt the need to eagerly listen to and dissect every piece of dialogue in a video game. The voice acting is top notch, leading to wonderful, compelling character encounters. In terms of side-quests there is so much to do, so many monsters to hunt, so many problems to solve, and so many Gwent cards to win that most players will find themselves completely overwhelmed in the best possible way.

The combat is a stellar improvement over The Witcher 2, adapting to the type of monster you're encountering is probably the most exciting part for me. Bringing down a wyvern with a crossbow just feels wonderful, binding a wraith to the physical plain to do maximum damage really immerses you in the game. Preparing for a tough monster during a contract quest feels great, going in knowing you're prepared for the situation is as rewarding as collecting the sweet sweet loot after.

It has been a long long time since a game convinced me it is occurring in its own world, but the Witcher 3 does it. The last time I felt this way was Ultima Online, circa 1997. Like I said at the beginning of my review, The Witcher 3 is a 10/10.

    Controls:
On a controller, the game plays perfectly fine. Horse combat could use some work, but there's nothing there that you cannot easily adapt to. I cannot speak for keyboard, as I've stuck with controller for this game.

    Graphics:
You people are still seriously falling for bullshots? Really? How naive are you? Not to mention, it still looks spectacular. The textures are extremely good considering it's an open world game that isn't demanding 4GB of VRAM for these textures. Beyond that, the lighting and weather are masterfully implemented, and do a splendid job at making the world seem real and tangible.

And as a special message to that individual that said Skyrim can look better: You are literally insane and need to seek professional help.

    Optimization:
The optimization (for Nvidia and Intel, anyway, as that's what I have) is very good. I'm running 2011 hardware (2600k i7, GTX 580, 2 in SLI), most of my settings are on high (some on medium, some on ultra, I'm also using HBAO+) and I still get 50-60 at all times. Every so often, it'll dip a bit lower in particularly intense situations, and in the middle of nowhere I'm in the 70's. And things look downright beautiful at these settings. If you're having a problem, there's either an AMD issue I don't know of (likely, as W3 was made very closely with Nvidia), or an issue with your computer. I'm several generations behind, and do just fine.

In my opinion, (which includes over 25 years of experience and countless hundreds of games) Witcher 3 is a borderline masterpiece. It's not quite worthy of a 10, but it's more than worthy of a 9. I could easily make an argument to include it in a top 10 or top 20 games of all time, but I will hold off on that until I 100% the game. And from what I read, that will take me several hundred hours, which is not at all a negative for me.

Lastly, Witcher 3 is likely going to be my personal GOTY. I have some hope for Metal Gear, but Witcher 3 is going to be hard to top.

Very few games grab my attention like the witcher 3, and that's saying something. I never fully got in to the first two witcher games, but now that I am sucked in to this one, I am going to give them a try when Im done.

There's a lot of comparisons floating around out there insisting this is better than this game or that. I will say I was extremely disappointed with dragon age: inquisition. Where that game is dumbed down and very simplistic, the wild hunt is completely opposite. It requires skill, not just button mashing.

Most impressive, however, is the story. The atmosphere of the game is that of a dark world, nations pitted against each other in war. You are on a mission to find your adopted daughter. I have stopped to do so many missions and have been blown away with the attention to detail; you end up caring about what happens and I find myself always wanting to know more. I cannot give the developers enough credit on their story telling. One side story ends up intertwining with your main mission, involving a Baron. The acting and story were so incredible, and I was even sad/intrigued at what had happened by the end. And then I realized I had a dozen more contracts I hadn't even touched yet.

Combat is a little off, but not terrible. I keep wanting to sneak attack and perform moves similar to Shadows of Mordor combat, which to me is a masterpiece in gameplay and combat mechanics. The Wild Hunt is soooo close to mirroring this in terms of controls, but it falls just slightly short. Sometimes it just feels like sword swings don't connect the way they should. With that said, nothing is more satisfying than seeing heads and limbs fly off.

I've had no problems what so ever performance or graphics wise, playing on an ASUS G751JY with a 980M nvidia card. FPS remains steady between 50 to 60 with all settings turned up. The game looks gorgeous. I will say the nvidia hair works is over rated and not worth the fps drop.

The only complaints I have are minor; aside from the combat mentioned above, what is with games wanting me to collect flowers and herbs across the whole map? This is not fun to me. Unfortunately, that is the way of things in games now; stop and collect a dozen herbs for this and that. Thankfully, this is much better done than in DA:Inquisition, where it takes a moment to bend down, pick it up, and stow it away. In wild Hunt, it's quick. Lastly, all the guys in the game are either overweight oafs, or look like complete dunces. While all the females are super models. Kinda looks funny.

    P.S. Ciri is HOT.

The people you meet, the places you visit and the situations you go through are getting even more interesting and absorbing. Remember you can also play two previous games!

    Enough about the back story.
The game is just full of things I fell in love with in Sapkowki's books. Various quests, perfect surroundings (my joy is multiplied as I am from Poland and those Slavic accents are closer to my soul) outstanding characters, models, dubbing and the magic that is added through DETAILS.

Not only visual details but the sense of humour, dialogues and other things that cannot be measured. That gives you an opportunity to join the game and enjoy it like no other.

Just take that risk and go deep. Do not skip dialogues, read the books and feel the game, its magic.

I normally don't write reviews on games, but this one compelled me to do so. The only reason I gave it a 9 instead of 10 is the graphics are SERIOUSLY gimped. It doesn't even look as good as the previous game.

That said, the amazing depth to the game, that takes you so far in that you lose yourself, more than makes up for it. Granted I am only level 3 at the moment and it's been out about 48 hours, I can only say I've scratched the surface.

I'm running an I7-2600k at 5GHz and a GTX-970 at 1420MHz, and at everything 100% ultra settings. I average anywhere from 40-50 FPS, so that's why I gave it a 9. With only the slightest decrease in graphics I can get 10 more frames so it isn't too bad really I suppose, I'm just a complainer lol.

In a climate where gamers are being groomed to believe season passes, timed DLC and disc-locked content are completely acceptable, CD Projekt Red exists as a shining beacon in the darkness. They have delivered a beautiful and content-rich game to explore and a thrilling story to experience. In a rare move there is also DLC both large and small being offered free of charge down the line. It is obvious CD Projekt Red is comprised of gamers making games that they themselves would love and they deserve all the support we can muster. Do the industry a favour and vote with your wallet. Show the corporate fat cats that honesty and integrity are profitable commodities, and that games as an experience are supposed to transcend petty commercialism.

The Witcher III is a reminder of what we used to take for granted as gamers. It gives you much more than the retail price attached to it, and stands as a proud entry developed by a great studio from which only more greatness can come in the future.

It sets a whole new standard in terms of content.
If it weren't for the controls not being good for kb+mouse it'd get a straight 10/10

    Original:
Let's get straight to the point: the controls are just outright bad. I don't mean unpolished, I mean bad, as in: wtf?
Your typical day in the world of Witcher 3 has you maneuver through beautiful landscapes and towns that have lots of obstacles that are hard to evade because the controls are just unresponsive and just not fit for this level design.
Every movement appears to have some 200ms delay and it just feels butchery.

For instance, you see a chest inside a broken hut at a lake which is behind a beam. Now approach it several times until you finally get the E to open it just for it to vanish the next second you you can't anymore. Then you spend quite a few attempts running against that beam from different angles to actually get to it.

Then we come to combat - could be that I'm just bad but it feels a bit like they took the worst from Assassins Creed and Mount and Blade, combined it, and then didn't know what they actually wanted to do.
Fighting against a single opponent - which never happens - is easy, you can riposte the attack or block it, then strike back. Since you always fight multiple opponents though this just doesn't work because... I'm still not sure, but blocking just doesn't work.
What works best for me right now is jumping left and right, then bashing LMB to strike. That's no fun to play though.

Mounted combat is just atrocious but so OP that it's sorta worth it. Now the genius thing they did was adding a horse fear bar so you can't just walk up to something, bash it, and it dies - your horse doesn't like that so you have to charge, and then hitting something is really hard.

Town life is just really dull, mainly because of the system they use where they spawn X amount of townsfolk based on your settings. At least there could be some funny standard lines like in TES 3-5 that are memorable, making townsfolk more believable.
In this case they're just zombies.

    Now to the positive part:
The game feels immersive, the graphics are great, I like the crafting system, the characters, the card mini game, all that is great and I want to play more, run around the map doing sidequests, typical RPG stuff.

    Bottom line
I like it and I'm willing to try to get better with combat and what not but it just makes no sense to me how they could think that this was a good combat system.

I hope they'll pump out a patch making KB+Mouse controls more responsive, rumor has it that with a controller it works well. Still, my colleague reported that he had the same problem with that beam at that hut.

The graphics are gorgeous, the combat system is great and demanding, the story, all the main and side quests are just incredible, there is really NOTHING wrong with The Witcher 3. Wild Hunt is a perfect mix of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 and it fully deserves the GOTY award for 2015.

Monster hunting is great, you feel like the witcher, all monsters have specific weaknesses like certain bombs, oils and spells that you can exploit and really help if you are playing on the challenging difficulty levels. Combat is reward, dodge, parry, roll out of the way using spells well, etc. Safe to say that the roll spam from witcher 2 is not as bad and you can use spells out of roll instead of pausing for a few seconds.

Now the big controversy. How is graphics and performance?
Its sort of hard to tell if the game has been downgraded or not. It seems like visuals vary based on day time, some areas don't look that good while others look absolutely gorgeous especially during sunsets. The sandy areas seem to look less good for some reason, i think its because of the pastelly type art style.
Overall the graphics are pretty good and the slight worse looking areas can be forgiven because how great the gameplay is.

Performance varies. The game is really demanding but its open world with lots of npc density and lots of effects everywhere. I am using a gtx 780 and get around 45-60 fps on high settings. Ultra settings cannot be reached (only 30fps) but I don't notice much difference between high and ultra, besides shadow quality and a bit more npc's.

Keyboard and mouse controls are ok but I suggest rebinding some to different keys, I for example use dodge and targetting on my two thumb keys on mouse instead of alt and z respectively.

So overall I will take away a point for the graphics/performance being not as good as everyone hoped.

TLDR: the gameplay is intact, controls are good, story is good, sidequests are non fetch quests, performance is ok for some, not great for others, graphics are good at times other areas a little disappointing but not enough to deter from gameplay.

The audio is breathtaking and it really pulls you into the game, the game play and combat is fantastic, nowhere near as clunk as the previous witcher games, my only critique is that while on horse back you can get stuck behind rocks and on stairs which was fairly annoying but a small grievance none the less.

Its a witcher game, so the story is always gonna be amazing and it really is.

Its a shame the graphics took center stage and that cdpr didn't do anything about it, even just owning up and letting it fade into the background.

It does have a few flaws:
    - They stated that there wouldn't be any exclusives, but instead they gave the xbox a vastly superior collector's edition with exclusive items for the same price.
    - shoulder camera is incredibly annoying, but fortunately doesn't came up too much.

This is the best open world RPG ever created and it is one of the best RPG’s ever. I simply loved almost everything about this game.

Time Invested: 150 hours (and just started Blood and Wine Exp.)

    Story/Characters:

In comparison to Witcher 2, the main story here is actually pretty unsophisticated and straightforward. However, it is so well written that it is extremely enjoyable. Additionally, the side missions and witcher contracts have great detail and fun.

What really makes this game great is the writing and characters. All of your favorite characters return with the introduction of Ciri who you immediately like. It’s the depth and details given to these characters that create these remarkable interactions with Geralt and the player. The writing is stellar and creates the suspension of disbelief that you need to get into this world.

    Gameplay:

I felt that the gameplay here, besides the UI, was largely unchanged from Witcher 2. The biggest change is the UI and it’s a huge improvement as menus and screens are easy to navigate. I thought that loading in this game was almost non-existent, it was great! I could start the game and bam within a minute I was playing. I rarely encountered any bugs as well.

My only complaint is that combat is still a little clunky. Sometimes you can find yourself just swinging your sword wildly all over at the air or there is a delay in dodging or rolling. Combat is still fun, but it may be the weakest part of this game especially since it does nothing new.

    Graphics/Sound:

Crazy beautiful; the environment is absolutely stunning! You can easily get lost traveling/exploring which is the best part of an open world RPG.

I loved all of the music, but as with some other games that have amazing music, can we please hear it more often!? Sometimes I am out roaming the hills and a tune would be nice.

    Conclusion:

Overall this is was/is one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had playing an RPG. The characters, graphics, lore, music, and story are all fantastic. This is definitely a new benchmark for all RPG’s. If you enjoy adventure, RPG, or just video games in general, this is a must own.

A wonderful game with an equally wonderful storyline. I didn’t like thinking about each character (and there are a lot of them), building a logical chain between them, but this is an amateur and therefore I can’t refer to this as a minus game. The graphics are mesmerizing, every frame of the game can be put on the desktop. The music is no less beautiful compared to other aspects of the game.

All of the big areas are filled with detailed locations that you might even miss after your 10th playthrough. The side quests are one of the essential parts of the game in which there are no repeating elements and each one are unique and a joy to experience. I think the most meaningful thing I can share is what is most meaningful to me in the time I spend in enthralled abnegation.

The little things. While the game has massive and detailed set pieces, a vast landscape and expansive writing that could never be overpraised, it's the infinite little touches that amount to so much more for me. There are hundreds of nods to minor characters, quests, and choices in previous games, subtle humour that is never out of place, references to all levels of game culture, subtle views into the souls of the characters through minor narrative elements made evermore compelling by beautiful voice acting, and constant reminders that the world in which you adventure is truly alive. From the tail slaps of the blue wales in the Skellige Isles to the uniqueness of each hidden ruin. Every thing has a story, a personality, a life of it's own, and it's all worth exploring.

There is no effort needed in falling for a true labour of love. A love so evidently shared by every level of CDPR's team. From playtester to CEO, there is not an individual there that does not possess the company wide unity of vision needed to produce a game this beautiful.

Thank you CDPR for reminding us what a lovingly crafted triple A game can be.

The Witcher 3 is massive. Possibly THE largest open world game to date and it is filled from top to bottom with content. Every side quest is fully voiced and at times even bleed into the main story. These are the best sidequests I have ever seen. That's difinitive. The best.

-Characters from previous games make their appearences here with choices from previous games making large changes to the world. If you haven't played the previous games then don't worry the story is surprisingly easy to get into. The Story is great so I'm not going to spoil any of it for whoever goes and buys this game. It must be said that it is the highlight of the game though.

Graphics despite having a large downgrade for console performance are still very good. You know that when there's an option to have every hair in the world have advanced physics no expense was spared. But if you were planning on having max settings this I will have to dissapoint you. Even with a powerfull PC I could still not get above 50fps on the lowest settings.

-Gameplay is notably less clunky then in previous games but I think it should be reviewed on its own. It is still clunky. When playing the secondary character you will understand that this was intentional. The character is an old man of 100 something years. Even so I would have still enjoyed a much more fluid movement.

    Cons:
-The horse. This may seem stupid but the horse is extremely important to get you places so it should have been mostly bug free and such. No. It is by far the buggiest and worst AI in the whole game. In a game with excellent AI the horse stands out as a wet piece of excrement in an otherwise almost flawless system.

-There are also a host of bugs throughout the game that are almost inherent to the open world genre. Being Cdprojecktreds first venture into open world with such a small team makes this a bitter pill to swallow but still exceptable.

    -Load times, nuff said

That's it. No really my only problems with the game are the horse, the load time and the bugs (which knowing CDprokekt will get patched). In a game this expansive if that doesn't tell you something then you might need help.

Final verdict. 10 out of 10
My problems with this game were few and far between and it is well worth your time and money. There are a host of things I didn't mention in this review because it is already extremely long but rest assured that they are all positive. This coupled with CDprojekts' policy of free DLC (yes you can have your horse armor and keep it too) The game soon will be worth this rating. but as of yet with many bugs unfixed it is still a 9.5. By the time of the enhanced edition (which will probably be free) release I'm sure that if I could I would be handing out an 11 out of ten.
So Whaddya waiting for. Go buy this game. Now.

It has story oozing out of every nook and cranny. The world feels alive and constantly delights you with small touches no matter where you are. The combat is a bit stiff and even at the highest difficulty it feels.....easy, provided you take the time to spec intelligently. Gwent is incredible for what it is, a card game played against NPCs. That mini-game alone has provided more enjoyment to me than several games that I have spent tens of dollars on.

Quests are....enjoyable? Who would have thought that was possible. NPCs are quite enjoyable even though at times they are repetitive as is to be expected by their "small" budget. Patches come swiftly and for the most part effectively. Performance is nothing to complain about, aside from Hairworks, its hard to find a reasonably powerful system that can't handle the game with the right settings. Crashes are almost nonexistent even the day of launch. Add in an NG+ mode and I'll likely double my already triple digit play time once I finish the story.

Absolutely without a doubt, my favorite game to come out in many years. Dark Souls 1 or perhaps Morrowind, in its own time, are the only games comparable that I can think of. Skyrim/Oblivion, Fallout 3, Mass Effects, Risen....Played them all and if I played W3 first, I'd likely have felt them sterile on many levels. But that is a discussion for another time.

10/10 would write this entire review again just to enjoy thinking about the game some more.

You cant jump from heights without suffering, just as if it was real life, so take care.

pps: Just read some bad reviews and concluded that these people don't have the right kit or haven't set their controls.
I have had NO issues with controls with Keyboard and mouse. The game has NOT been locked down for Consoles, the PC version blows the Console version out of the water. As a reviewer below has the same card as me, we cant set it on max settings, though he gets a frame rate drop on Hair, but I set Hair works down a click. MOST gamers know to lower settings to start a new game and change to get a balance.
