The other problem is the BUGs. It really deserved the name "The Glitcher 3" for the early version of this game.

For the story-line,I think it is overrated. I don't think it is very good or very bad, it is just, ok.

But who cares, let's play Gwent.

This is one of those gems that doesn't let you quit playing like the best book or your favourite series. If you haven't played this one you have to buy if with all the expansions. The best adventure of your life guaranteed.

My personal maxim when it comes to games is: Gameplay is king; Story is queen. I have little to no interest in games with no story or even lore; and also no interest in games with only story (I'd rather read a book in that case). The seamless combination of both is what interests me the most, and very few games achieve this blend as Wild Hunt has achieved. This game is the embodiment ofMy personal maxim when it comes to games is: Gameplay is king; Story is queen. I have little to no interest in games with no story or even lore; and also no interest in games with only story (I'd rather read a book in that case). The seamless combination of both is what interests me the most, and very few games achieve this blend as Wild Hunt has achieved. This game is the embodiment of the perfect balance between gameplay and story.

CDPR, the developer, has achieved the highest effect a game can have on its players: making them wish that it never ends. For the last five months I have delayed and put off the ending as long as I possibly could, wishing that this game could last forever; that I could play it for the rest of my life, always finding new side quests, new contracts, new treasure hunts. But alas, all great things must end; it's what makes them great. And in this case, The Witcher series ended on an incredibly high note. The fact that the developer has decided to conclude the story of Geralt with this game, instead of finding a way to milk the franchise also speaks volumes of their integrity as artists.

This is a game that is exuberantly alive: it bustles and teems with life. Walking through the woods, walking through a city, into a cave... you feel life around you, especially if you play with a good headset. The feeling of riding across the lands as the sun sets is something I'll never forget. I'd never played a game that felt so alive, so rich, so handcrafted in its minutest details. Some games came close, but probably due to limitations of technology and development cycle, they didn't achieve this level of liveliness and exuberance.

I usually don't like cutscenes in most games, to be very honest, but in this game I couldn't get enough of it. The voice acting, the character animation, especially facial animation, is beyond anything we've come to expect from games in terms of quality, and most games now pale in comparison, seeming lifeless and dull. No wonder some critics said that it "defines next-gen": this game is technically and artistically unparalleled, and it should set a gold standard to be aspired to by all AAA devs in the coming years. Not that most of them will ever achieve something this great, but they should at least aspire to greatness.

It has moments where its writing is at its best the fewer words are used: Geralt and Ciri trashing a certain place was particularly brilliant. But the writing here is among the best a game has ever seen. From my own personal preference, only the writing in Fallout: New Vegas could equal the writing in Wild Hunt. The variety of soundbites in cities and villages, the different personalities ascribed to vendors (a blacksmith mourning his son, an armourer who is not what he seems, a grumpy merchant, etc etc etc)... From the very first quests, the inner life shown by these characters is simply staggering: a lone hunter in the woods, a very minor character, who considers himself a freak, has more inner life than most protagonists in most games out there.

On to the gameplay. The investigation component, though not exactly innovative, is employed so deftly that it makes for one of the most satisfying elements in the game: finding clues and picking up scents is just fun and it makes you feel like a supernatural detective. I know some players had objections to the combat, but I have no complaints whatsoever. Especially on higher difficulties, it is clever, tactical, challenging and just plain fun. You don't have to mash your buttons or click your mouse to death here, instead you have to pace yourself, prepare for each fight, try to get the right oils and signs and bombs ready. It can be awkward sometimes, but that's a matter of skill. The better you become at combat, the more surgical and graceful you can become, which makes it extremely fun and satisfying.

The soundtrack is a work of art in itself. For the past two months I've started reading the books while listening to the soundtrack, and it makes for a very satisfying combination. It fills you with longing and transports you to the world of the Witcher while your body sits there in the bus, going to work or wherever. It is that good, seriously.

Flawed as only the greatest masterpieces can be, Wild Hunt is a tour de force to be reckoned with. It is a world built by some of the most creative and innovative minds in the games industry; it is a game carved and handcrafted as a labour of love with only the varnish of commercial value. Wild Hunt redeems the videogame medium; it elevates art and storytelling to a whole new level that we can only hope will come to be imitated, however imperfectly.

Fantastic. It is difficult to fault this game. For a world of such size in my entire playthrough I encountered not one single bug or glitch... hugely impressive. The main story at the very end becomes a tad tedious as just when you think its over you have to go and do something else.. but it was rewarding to see all of my choices throughout the game come out at the very end - and some of them I regretted.

Graphically it is a shadow of it's former self from what we first saw at its reveal, but I can forgive it for that simply because it is such an epic game.

The combat, crafting, loot and other intertwined systems all work exceptionally well - though I do wish that geraldt could carry more items as I often would loot too much... but perhaps thats more of a reflection on me than the game =).

One little gripe I did have was that character models were used and re-used quite often... but in the scheme of things it was minor.

It runs at a silky smooth almost always locked 60fps at FHD and I was able to easily maintain 50fps at 2k if I chose to.

This is a remakable game I could not recommend more. Any fan of the series should check it out.

Interacting with NPC's is exciting and interesting, one does want to know more about the people ur interacting and therefore usometimes ask more questions than a Witcher normally would have done, because of his code and all. I feel free to play as I want to a certain degree though Geralt is a "premade" character with a backstory and personality. The Open World is epic, beautufil and filled alot of stuff to do. It feels like a mixture of Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, Dragon Age and Game of Thrones because of the dark and realistic themed fantasy world for adults, rather than high fantasy filled with simple soultions to conflicts and events.

The combat is kind of simple to understand but sometimes hard to master, especially if ur facing enemies above ur own lvl or several enemies at once. But that also depends on the game difficulty u have chosen. And I love how alchemy has such a huge effect during combat and greater boss like opponents which have certain weaknesses to read about in the Beastiary. In this game all the systems comes together nicely, the quest system is interesting because u can pick up a quest somewhere in some town and it might be too high lvl so u have to be coming back later, this makes certain areas more replayable, although they don't get boring without quests. And one does not feel like exploring every single questionmark on the map, becuause in many cases u don't benefit from it, especially not if the area is guarded by high-lvl enemies.

I'm on my second playthrough now. The first was 35 hours and 16 minutes, with all of White Orchid, ~60% of Velen, and maybe 20-30% of Skellig's POIs completed. This time, I intend to attempt to do EVERYTHING. Though, even with leaving all the content on the table in playthrough one, I felt overpowered for the end boss fights (second hardest difficulty).

There's always room for improvement, and the combat has always been-imo-the weakest aspect of RPGs in general, and that's true for the Witcher series as well (though, kudos to the idea of weaknesses and preparation). Eventually, we're going to start seeing RPGs that have the type of depth of combat that action games like Arkham have (though, let's face it, there's no reason the Arkham series shouldn't be considered an RPG). If I was conditioned by decades of RPGs only paying lip service to combat as a vehicle to drive a narrative, I'd probably be worked up about this, but I'm not.

Technically, I do wish the draw distance was better, but whatever. It's Witcher 2, but Witcher 1's epic scope; really, it's the hybrid baby of the two games and it is fantastic.

I was horrified when they originally said they were going to make this an open world game. Every single open world game is just a bunch of pointless (often times randomly generated) content to keep adhd people sated, while making grandiose claims that one's game is epic and massive. I thought the great story and lore of the Witcher series was going to meet a fiery doom, and that the Witcher 3 would be just another Skyrim/Fallout/etc. Lots of POIs, complete lack of heart and feels. Boy, was I wrong. It never made any sense that a story-focused game couldn't work in an open world. It never made any sense that we-as gamers-always had to choose a story-focused game that was basically a corridor with little to no freedom, or an open world game that had little to no story. CDPR finally proved you can have your cake and eat it.

Lastly, as a gamer in his 30s, I wanted to finish with high praise for the dialog/relationships between Geralt and the people in his life (especially Yennefer and Ciri). Those were some genuinely great moments and lines (on everyone's part). I hate to use the term "mature", but there was a maturity in the approach to dialog in a relationship that is so, so, sooooooooo rarely seen in a video game.

I hope there is some other unheard of studio out there that will blow my socks off in the next few years, because other than CDPR's next project (Cyborg2077), I can't see a future where anything from the established big players like Bioware/Bethesda/etc will be capable of getting my motor running.

Well, the Witcher 3 is one of those games. No other game I've ever played has brought together such an immersive and authentic dark fantasy world. The visuals, the soundtrack, the various locales, fantastic writing and characterisation and all the little stories, both comedic and tragic, scattered across the world of the Witcher make for quite the gaming experience.

I do have a few minor criticisms such as Eredin being a weak antagonist, and some other game elements which I feel could be improved, but there's no broad aspect of the game that I can say is outright bad or mediocre. Everything in the Witcher has been treated with utmost care and it really shows.

Prior to playing the Witcher 3, I would also highly recommend playing through the previous Witcher games, as there are many references you will otherwise not understand, and you will come to appreciate (or despise) certain characters more. While these can be recapped and explained to you through the in-game glossary, a short blurb is simply no comparison to the character development built up in two 40-hour games that came before.

I was expecting more. I pre-order the game and I was expecting to get a product closer to what it was revealed in 2013. The game is nowhere near there, day one was a huge disappointment for me. CDPR just harmed themselves by showing something and delivering a sub-par product (for whatever reason). And yes, you can argue that it was a demo, vertical slice, or whatever you want to call it. But the bottom line is that if a developer shows a gameplay video and open the pre-order gates then people would expect to get that product. In the end I think a lot of the low scores come from angry costumers with undelivered expectations. Hopefully a lesson was learned, from the developers side and from the consumers side. I certainly will not pre-order a video game again.

For bugs, the worst I've had is 2-3 graphic glitches, one minor quest not completing as it should, and two freezes while dragging items in the inventory screen (in about 30-40 hours of play). Overall, this is one of the best games I've ever played.

I want to discuss the negative reviews a bit. First, I believe they are mostly genuine. In the negative cases, I think the game is just not right for the player. If you expect there to be less conversation and exploration, then you bought the wrong game. If you think the controls are sluggish and/or unwieldy because the character can't easily run through a crowd, can't change direction in the middle of a jump, and stops and starts with deceleration and acceleration, respectively, then you bought the wrong game. These aspects all make the game _better_ for me.

Here are a couple of important suggestions (that you likely haven't done, as the default is otherwise) to help you enjoy the game more:

    1) Turn _off_ the Run Default option. This is the first game with which I've ever done that, and the result has been amazing. I find walking works really, really well, and I only run when I have open space to actually do so effectively.

    2) Turn off the Path to Objective and Undiscovered POI options. When these are on, you can easily find yourself walking straight from one objective and POI to another, and while looking at the on-screen path, you can completely miss the world. Save these options for when you are stuck, or when you are done exploring, to help you find anything you might have missed. You won't regret it; the world feels much more alive, and you may find that you experience it entirely differently and much more personally.

    Last three notes:
    1) I found the first area a bit slow. I found the same thing with Witcher 1 and Witcher 2. Maybe it just takes me a little time to buy into the world, or maybe CDPR has a little trouble with the beginnings of games. (It's probably a bit of both.) Stick with it, though, as Velen (and Novigrad!) is amazing!
    2) I saw that someone complained about how easy it was to walk into an empty home and clean it out. If that's the type of Witcher you want to play, so be it, but it seems reasonable it would be easy to clean out an empty house. That said, I am not that type of Witcher, and I very rarely steal things from the houses of the poor. They need that stuff. I do steal a bit more when I am in the house of a richer person, I must admit. Remember: it's a role-playing game, so it's up to you to decide how you treat the world.
    3) I have an older video card. It was slightly above average when I bought it two years ago. I am playing on medium-high settings, generally, but without Nvidia hair, and I've had consistently good frame rate on my PC. I even have NPCs set to Ultimate, and that can mean a _lot_ of people on the screen when in Novigrad. It sounds like PS4 users may be in rougher shape, as there seems to be a bit of a theme of them complaining about framerate. I don't know what to say about that, except to note that PC framerate is fine.

Took me about 80 hours to complete, I did a lot of side quests early and not as many in the later stages of the game. I usually don't play games for the story but I absolutely blown away by the depth of the story in Witcher 3. This game delivered on everything I wanted it to.

    - Top-notch dialogue and voice acting most of the time
    - Beautiful graphics despite the E3 downgrade controversy (the game is quite demanding as it is now)
    - Actually interesting and diverse side quests
    - Decisions often have real consequences, and they are almost never just black and white
    - Very adultlike, not shying away from themes like sex, war crimes and racism
    - All in all, the world feels really GoT-esque at times
    - Immensely rich content-wise, my first playthrough took 90 hours and I still had huge amounts of places to explore and quests to complete after that
    - Amazing soundtrack that fits perfectly into the game's world and its events
    - Bestiary and character list come in handy when trying to keep track of all the different creatures and people you meet in the game
    - Enemy variety is great and combat feels intuitive without being too simple...

    Cons:
    - ...But it doesn't feel as responsive as I think it should and can definitely take some getting used to
    - Battle preparations (potions, oils etc.) are quite useless unless playing on higher difficulties
    - Skill tree can feel a bit limiting and some of the skills are just pointless percentage stuff
    - Occasional bugs and glitches, although a lot of them have been patched already
    - Newcomers to the franchise can feel a bit confused by everything at first, albeit playing the previous Witcher games is not necessary to understand what's going on in this game
    - Can be a bit slow to get into, as is the case with most RPGs I've played

Honestly, this is one of the best RPGs I've ever played, a must-buy for any fan of the genre. Just don't go into it expecting a game like Skyrim.

I have been PC gamer for over 25years, and I would say this is one of the best game execution that I have had privilege to play. There are few items which tarnish the perfect score, but even those are very settle. I will mention them here: constrained movement control can be very annoying, especially while in combat, Skellige map and quests being somewhat bland, lack of actual night and low visibility, lack of FOV adjustment, and few quests being glitched. Otherwise, this game has really pushed the bar in terms of visuals, story, and immersion. Sadly, it still dominates even 2 years after it release. it is important as gamers and customers, that we award games like Witcher III as exceptional, in order to promote this expectation for the future games. Giving the game low score, just because the genre is incompatible with ones expectation, does not help. Witcher III is a complete execution of state of the art graphics, animation, sound and story. Something that cannot be said for even some of the newest titles, like MA: Andromeda.
Kudos to CD Projekt, and I hope they continue this level of commitment and determination toward its customers.
P.S. to rate this game as "without story behind" is like saying Lord of The Rings is story about killing monsters and throwing a ring into the volcano. Which in both case would be Correct but very Flawed observation. Not all "?" should have the meaningful story, and player should certainly not pursue each one of them if they dont want to. Plenty of other contents available.

It follows a more traditional role playing experience and should feel very familiar to fans of European style RPG mechanics. While the Witcher 3 has a number of core problems that become more and more noticeable as players spend the hundred or so odd hours completing the game, it is on the whole a great game that accomplishes a lot of things many recent role playing games couldn't achieve.

In Geralt's third outing, we see a return to a story that puts the world at stake, the titular character placed firmly in its center, though sometimes to an egregious degree. While the story is for the most part involving, well told, and under the influence of the player's actions, the latter point is especially apparent in how certain events, while seemingly urgent, occur simply whenever the player chooses, occurring on time despite the player potentially taking in-game weeks to trigger the event. It doesn't seem like too huge a deal, but I think the NPC and world interactions in Dark Souls have really spoiled me, and have consequently made me much more aware of Geralt's position in the center of the universe.

One thing a lot of people gloss over is the gameplay. The combat system is basic and works fairly well; in combat, Geralt is agile and capable of dancing around multiple attacking targets, using his signs more fluidly, and chaining attacks together. It's not a particularly complex system, but works well and gives the player all of the tools they really need to fight anything in the world a short time in. The problem with the combat is that it sees very little evolution throughout the game, and is held back for a number of reasons. Geralt is still limited to his swords, which have identical attacks but are intended for different targets, as per usual. Geralt can modify the nature of his attacks' effects through upgrades, slotted modifiers, oils, and consumable items. Earning experience in the world through quest completion, finding hidden upgrade nodes, and murdering everything is put to acquiring skill points that are used to upgrade Geralt's abilities, but there exist a number of problems with this system as well. Leveling up is quite slow, and many of the abilities modified Geralt in disappointing or unnecessary ways, despite my playing on the Death March difficulty on my first playthrough. There is a lot of missed potential in the abilities Geralt acquires, which amount mostly to basic scalars, such as allowing Geralt to carry more bombs and potions and whatnot. The most interesting and powerful upgrades are found in the sign upgrade tree, having the most impact on gameplay and becoming hilariously powerful late in the game, if the player chooses to invest heavily in them. While these abilities are cool, simply putting skill points into them doesn't allow Geralt those abilities, since they also have to be slotted into Geralt's available active skill slots, of which there are only twelve, compared to the total of 70 abilities. What's more is that unlocking the next tier of upgrades per tree has you arbitrarily dumping points into abilities you may never even use, just to get something you want further down the tree. You also unlock these active slots fairly slowly, gaining your last by the time you've reached the end of the game. On the whole it's a disappointing system that expands the player's abilities horizontally, and without much depth.

While the Witcher 3 also features some standout enemy designs and quite a variety of them, there's a lot of palette swapping of attacks and models that are in some part excusable given the breadth of the game and the relatively small team designing it. Still, it's hard to shake the feeling that fighting one variation of an enemy archetype equates to fighting them all. Many quests also follow simple and formulaic designs for the most part, but also feature interesting and detailed scenery, insight into the world, well voiced characters, and well executed plots. Despite the repetitive nature of a lot of the side quests, I was still eager to complete them as they all felt like they fit in the world, and sometimes even unexpectedly played into the final outcome of the game. The main quest is also consistently great, with an impacting third act and epilogue especially. It's sad, then, that the world after the game's completion is so empty, with major characters disappearing entirely, giving players who have completed the main quest nothing to return to.

Despite all of my criticisms, I still think the Witcher 3 is a great game, and among the best of its kind to be released in some time. It's beautiful and richly atmospheric, sprinkling in real folklore with a fantasy theme, while also executing its mature subject matter fairly well. While the combat and leveling systems are fairly shallow, I felt sufficiently powerful from the start, and increasingly proficient as I progressed happily, though slowly, to the finish.

They must then pay back the stored position as accomplished something that did not. I already have a minimum of three decisions that have no idea what comes of it. The worst thing is that I made the other three, who already influenced the world around me. And in the beginning it seemed like little things that do not affect the storyline. The little thing in this game are wonderfull. Even the crap that Geralt grow facial hair. I was personally pleased with the combat system, because it simply makes everyone by himself. A battle on horseback or riding and with sword try kill monster or humans, it's also a treat. For graphic i have one word. Beautiful. And of course it is a great compliment translation and for me personally polish voiceovers, which underline the atmosphere of the game.

    A few tips:

    1. Without alchemy you do nothing. Whether oils, potions and eventually firecrackers. Each potion should have a higher version. But you have to find the recipe. They refer to the treasures in remote strongholds, for tasks etc. The biggest advantage is that once you produce, you no longer have to look over materials. Potions are complemented by meditation (and thus replenishing oils, crackers) and alcohol consumption, therefore keep them at least 10 bottles of the best dwarf plum brandy. It is the difference between alcohol / drinking, which is not and which is alchemical

    2. Select the style. I do not recommend brawling experience points to all the groups at once, you'll have to way to fall in darkness. I need to concentrate on fast combat with a sword + red mutagen (improves my phase 2 mutagen 20% attack power) and Ignite + blue sign mutagen (phase 2 mutagen + 10% power for example). Everyone chooses something there. Potions, to fight, to sign.
    3. Fill even the smallest tasks seem trivial. Often it has a crazy effect on the surroundings and totally you modify an event. And he just did what out of this quest turns out, it's worth it.

CD Projekt Red really gives you value for money, i mean 16 peaces of free DLC?? And i mean DLC not #$#@! like in Shadows of Mordor where you get weapon runes as dlc.. The Witcher 3 will keep you busy for well over 150 hours guaranteed!
BTW, on a side note, how the hell does critics (game sites) rate GTA V better than this game? I know its not the same type of game but seriously...ANOTHER GTA? The fifth one where you do all the same stupid stuff except now you have first person mode? Kill and rob people and steal cars for 5 games in a row, nothing new there!!

This 3rd installment clearly shows a continual growth in the franchise; a game that is superior to it's predecessors in every aspect (not evenly but superior nonetheless). So if you liked the previous games you will absolutely love this one.

The game is also amazing from an RPG and action game perspective. Great characters, awesome writing, intriguing storyline, great visuals, and a world that feels very alive; all the story and events develop through a moral so gray that the concepts of "good and bad" seem ridiculous (as they should), and that will have you doubting your own decisions all through the game.

I'm not blinded by my love of the franchise however, the game is not absolutely perfect. Optimization still has plenty of room for improvement (but so had both previous games and later patches fixed it) and the character movement and combat system could still be more fluid.

My actual rating for this game is a 9.5, but due to all the no-life haters I rounded it to a 10.

Buy the game, lets show support for companies like CD Project that actually deliver an experience you will remember for years to come.

The map is freaking huge, it's beautiful, the gameplay is great, there is so much things to do... Thanks CD Projekt Red, thanks Bandaï Namco.

Witcher 3... An amazing story in a wonderful world, with above average graphics, unfortunately plagued by sub standard controls and random crashes. 8/10 currently, 10/10 if KB/Mouse controls are fixed and crashes are resolved.
Short synopsis, long review. If you want in-depth discussion, this post is for you.
The world is a mixture of open world areas, reminiscent of DA: Inquisition. This actually suits the game well. It feels like a massive version of Witcher 1, alive and breathing, there for the taking. But the game still has ways to ferry you along, presenting the story and driving it's world home. It's best if I don't say much here and let you discover it for yourself! I've played many hours and am finding it fantastic!
But not far into the game, I noticed a cut scene was not playing properly. I crashed to desktop; the nVidia driver stopped responding. Okay. No problem. It's a new game, after all. An hour later, freeze in menu, crash, no notice of problem. In 8+ hours, I've had five crashes, all but one of which have been followed by an nVidia driver error. I've cleaned, then clean installed multiple drivers, but am still having issues. Many people have "fixed" it. But at this point, every single setting in the game has been blamed as the culprit. Please know that the game is amazing, and worth the hassle. I have also played for multiple hours in a row without a crash. But the freezes and crashes are very real, common issues, for some nVidia users.
Okay. Controls. Sigh. First, if you ever use a gamepad on PC, consider doing so for this game. I say that with a tear in my eye. I LOVED the Witcher's original combat style of weaving strikes and timing mouse clicks, all while aiming the camera and using signs at will. Exploring the world felt natural. In Witcher 3, keyboard control feels like controlling a boulder. The camera control feels like you're controlling a leaf in a tornado! I don't know if this is one of those of implementations where the WASD key presses are translated to directional accelerations. But, it sure feels like it. Try it out, you'll see what I mean, but you might want to turn down mouse sensitivity a bit. Another odd thing is the actual binding system. What a key press does is changed whether Geralt is in combat, swimming, riding, etc. But, the binding screen doesn't allow you to bind one key for multiple actions. Bind it in one place, then it's already used, despite the game's own defaults using keys like Shift multiple times itself. I'm using a 360 pad and it's working great so far. The best part is I can still use the mouse for my inventory and menu since the game switches between controls seamlessly. A close second is the 360 degree dodging of attacks. With a gamepad, the gameplay is quick, more responsive, and ultimately feels like the way the game was designed to be played.
The story and gameplay are so good, that the following graphics section is mainly for those for whom the graphics are the main purchasing point. I'm a image quality whore, but twenty minutes in, I was having so much fun I couldn't care less... even about aliasing! The graphics look very good, even great, but not 2013 mind blowing. There are areas where the drive to get the game running on consoles has limited what you'll see on PC. With my nVidia GPU on ultra and hairworks off, I get almost constant 60 fps. But texture quality just doesn't look ultra. Reflections are NOT dynamic, instead using a generic shader. The anti-aliasing is almost useless. Hairworks looks great, but I get large amounts of micro stuttering. I maintain a fairly high frame rate with it on, but my frame times become erratic and spiky. I feel like instead of spending development time on nVidia specific physics package, CDPR could have refined the controls. Or for a more one to one change, they could have focused on lip synching.
My final score [review in progress] is 8/10. So far, the Witcher 3 has been the most interesting, lore infused game I have played in years. The feeling I get playing this game is similar to the first time I played early Might & Magic titles. It's like arriving in the province of Daggerfall, or Oblivion for the first time. Forging a path in a world so familiar, yet utterly foreign. There is so much fun and story to be found in this game, that even stability issues and strange controls can't sink it. Ultimately, I believe CDPR will overcome these issues. In that case, my review will be changed to a 10/10.

If you're looking for a large RPG to really emerge yourself in, this is the best you'll see around. I've played computer games since the 80s and this joins a pantheon of a handful truly stellar games like Civilization I, Thief The Dark Project, Europa Universalis, Baldur's Gate that stand out as true masterpieces of the industry.

The only less than brilliant thing in the game is the Skellige area which isn't as astoundingly fantastic as Velen and Novigrad (they are so ridiculously well made with such an attention to detail and life that it's genuinely mind-blowing) but it's still very good.

One of the impressive thing is the story-telling, which has become standard in the witcher games but should never be taken for granted anyway. Arguably, we'll never see the level they reached in Witcher I simply because the game is more mainstream now than back then, but the structuring of the narrative is impressive and the choices made and how they affect the final outcome make sense and feel smooth. The only word of caution is that some choices made regarding the romantic outcomes are made very early and are irreversible so if you care a lot about that aspect, I recommend finding a short post about it that doesn't spoil too much before you play the game too far. The choices regarding Ciri's story are just splendid, she comes alive as a complex and loveable character which is really, really hard to achieve for a character that isn't the main protagonist. The main story in general is fantastic as usual, subtle details for the enthusiast, solid telling for the main stream gamer.

You can easily spend 250 hours on this game and still have places unexplored. You won't be bored either, it won't feel like they're trying to copy/paste scenarios to stretch the runtime, the game has insane value.

Witcher III is a really impressive feat as is the entire franchise series - arguably the best franchise series ever made in gaming. Well done CD Project Red, please never stop being you (I'm looking at you Bethesda).

Geralt’s final, epic ride, is the high water-mark by which all future games will be judged and found lacking. Indeed, it’s only disadvantage is that it completely ruins every other title on the market right now by nailing every single aspect of game design with almost supernatural clarity and perfection. You do not play as a messiah, the chosen one, the hero, instead, you're living the world through the eye of Geralt of Rivia. A character who has been shaped by multiple stories and events. Playing as a character however, oddly made you pay attention more to your surroundings. I care deeply about the rich cast of supporting characters of the game that I can tell you in details on why Nilfgaard Empire advanced towards Temeria in the first place. I can show you exactly why Vernon Roche insisted on leading the guerrilla fighters and ended up turning against his own King Radovid to save Temeria. It's a complex entangled world that you can't help to be immersed and be a part of as you go through your journey in this title. Expand

Most of the story is on par with the earlier games, occasionally even exceeding them, but also falling short in a few places. Just as TW2's showed us a good character whom a bad situation forced to do something horrible that affected a whole kingdom, TW3 repeats something similar on a personal level, and shows us its relevance in the world by rendering nearly the whole thing for us to explore. The player can appreciate the unpretentious story at whatever desired depth--literary or just fun--it's good all the same. TW3 repeatedly provokes the player with morally ambiguous situations, and this is precisely why it is an adult RPG--not because of the r-rated content but because it doesn't sugarcoat life for you. That being said, there are at least two major cases of plot armor in the story, and at least one annoying plot hole. The story also suffers from pacing issues, which brings me to the many ways the game has suffered by jumping on the open world bandwagon. Hours of carefree exploring can clash with the supposed urgency of some quests. The game also suffers from a difficulty hill. Combat is fun when it is hard and limitations compel the player to be careful and strategize, but those limitations evaporate soon after level 10 in the vanilla game and thereafter nearly everything is easy. Even with the Enhanced Combat mod--which delays the difficulty "hill"--on Blood and Broken Bones difficulty the game is disappointingly idiot-proof. And speaking of idiot-proof, that brings me to the alchemy system, which has the bizarre property of auto-refill in spite of the vast amount of (overwhelmingly useless) loot there is to be found. We fans begged CDPR not to do this and they didn't listen, instead nerfing the alchemy in fear that no one would use it. And, yet, they already had two very good alchemy systems in their two earlier games! The easy combat is contrasted with the nearly impossible fist fighting, which is not much easier than the Operator fight in TW2. Your character can take a few blunt hits with a sword, but he can't take four punches. I'm also quite disappointed by how the enemies respawn. Is implementing permanent death for enemies really that hard? I'm a software engineer and I really doubt it. Soured as I am by these flaws, they are still outweighed by the breadth and depth of this game. TW3's world makes sense as a society, and the cities look like they were made by people who have seen real mediaeval cities (instead of Disneyified bs) and the combat is strategic and interesting--not simple potion spam. Over all I'd say this game deserves 8/10, but with mods I'd lift that to 9/10. I can't give it 10 with the flaws it has. That being said, I hope it becomes influential and a wake-up call to the industry and the generic riskless material it keeps producing. Expand

But as much as I do like this title, I think there's quite a list of cons that shouldn't be overlooked if you plan to buy this game.

First of all, the Witcher is a great role playing game with an open world. The liberty you get is pretty amazing: you can rush your main storyline quests or take your time and explore the world, get contracts and side missions and end up living the witcher life.
Here lies one of the main flaws of the game: You are in pursuit of Ciri who's like a child to you and she has nothing less than the Wild Hunt on her heels. Problem is then: why would you lose time wandering left and right, getting an extra coin here and a piece of equipment there. It just doesn't add up.
Most role playing games that have side quest will have you look at them as a way to gain an edge for the remainder of the game (and I'm not talking about XP).
For example, instead of telling you "Hey, you can make an extra buck by killing this wraith..." the game would have been better telling you "Hey, the Wild Hunt has wraiths in their ranks, if you kill this wraith, you will get some coin and a better knowledge of wraiths so fighting the hunt will become easier."

Also, this game as probably one of the worst crafting systems known to mankind. It's just a mess, the alphabetical ordering makes no sense and there's no way to filter your recipes (say "Highest usable" for example).

That leads me to one of the most debated points: Combat.
When people read "revolutionary combat system" they - rightfully - have very high expectations.
Problem is, if you expect a crazy combo system like you would have in Batman for example, where you would jump in the middle of 10 monsters, slash one, stab the next then kick a third and keep on until all monsters are dead, you are heading for a big let down.
In the witcher, you do the fighting, you need to think before you move. If you get surrounded, you will have a bad day.

Finally, the main reason for not giving it a higher grade is the overall clumsy controls. You will sometimes miss ladders by an inch, you will fall from a wall you are walking on, your horse will stop running for no valid reason.
This is for me the most frustrating thing about this game.

To sum-up: The Witcher 3 is a very good game with a lot of meat, if you can live with the elements mentioned above you will have a jolly good time.
If you expect to parkour like in assassin's creed, fight like in batman and ride like in red dead redemption, you're up for a big deception.

    - Card Game is Fun, i skipted it at some point. Too many of this.
    - cool Monster Design
    - Dark and brutal World. Hate and Fear at every Corner
    - Ciri is a wonderfull and refreshing Charachter. You will love her.

    Con:
    - simple skillsystem, many skills useless
    - Fighting always feels the same. Level 1 Geralt fights almost the same like Level 40 Geralt.
    - Level Balancing is bad, after 10 Hours Geralt is almost undefeatable on any Difficulty, no matter what you skill or what Gear you wear.
    - If you explore "too much" You will become far too powerfull for the Mainstoryline and all Bossfights become a Joke.
    - The Horse sometimes is just stupid.
    - Mainstoty has some Plotholes and will let some serious Topics unanswered.

This game, like the others in the series, is a masterpiece and only the guys at CD Projekt Red know how to pull it off, never have I played a game where the dialogue, story, atmosphere was this well delivered. You play as Geralt of Rivia who's motive is to find his "daughter" Ciri, who is being pursued by the Wild Hunt, however it plays little role in your experience, most of the time spent will be doing side quests, which all have their own story and are enthralling to play, most notably the quest in the Fyke Isles.

The game is well optimised on PC, I'm using a GTX 970 and play the game on Ultra (with distance detail down a notch) and never goes below 45FPS, usually maintaining 55ish at 1080p. The sound is also superb with some of the soundtrack sending shivers down my spine, it's that good. The voice acting is also top notch and believable, better than most films I've seen actually.

The only reason this game gets a 9 rather than a 10 is the combat and controls are not great, but this was the case with the other games as well. In my opinion you play a Witcher game for its story and game world but it would of been nice to see a well executed combat system.

    Pros:

Size-game is huge and you can spend probably 150-200 hours if you want to explore every map marker. I finished the game in about 70-75 hours and had many map markers that were still unexplored. Graphics-really pretty, especially faces and armors, animations are pretty good too. And game performs quite well, my laptop has quad core i7 and GTX970M and I was able to play on 1080p

Graphics-really pretty, especially faces and armors, animations are pretty good too. And game performs quite well, my laptop has quad core i7 and GTX970M and I was able to play on 1080p with everything on ultra except foliage distance was high (not much difference anyway) and hairworks were turned off, with nice fps rates generally staying in 40s with occasional drops to 30s and spikes to 50s, more on that in Cons section. I also turned off vignetting, blur and sharpening because I dont like them. You can tweak just about anything to squeeze the fps you want from your computer. Cities are filled with people and look lively and realistic with the exception of repetitive comments from some of them.

Quests-nearly every quest has a backstory, and many are interconnected, and while it starts off slowly in White Orchard by the time you move to Velen and Novigrad the game feels like a real living world with well written quests and interconnected stories. Massive improvement over just about any game out there. I immensely enjoyed the quests related to the main quest and didnt have this much fun since Dragon Age Origins&Awakening. Other developers should take note. And many quests require thinking, not too much, just enough to keep quests interesting, but not making you swear in front of your computer all the time because you cant figure it out. Game will also tell you what is the recommended level for a quest, you can manage to do it on lower levels, but not much lower, you get raped if you try it on 10 levels below recommended.

Voice acting-generally very good to excellent and pleasure to listen to.

Humor-game has lots of humorous moments that are well conceived and entertaining. Rock trolls particularly.

Combat-improvement over 1 and 2 and decently enjoyable, gets slightly monotonous after some time but I guess that is caused by restrictions from the books, Geralt fights in certain way and has certain skills and that is all, you cant have spells, new weapons and stuff, there is a crossbow which is a nice addition but not terribly useful except in some situations.

Crafting-it is a mixed blessing but I will put in under Pros, you can get some powerful stuff from crafting, but it can be tedious to find recipes, ingredients and right smiths, good for those that like to explore everything in the game, but somewhat tedious for people that just want to enjoy the story and loot or buy their armors and weapons.

Scattered treasure-exploring seemingly irrelevant and empty locations can get you powerful armor and weapons, exploring the obscure parts of the map is worthwhile in Witcher 3.

Difficulty-now it is much more balanced than in previous games, it has hardcore levels for the fanatics and Just The Story which is the new Easy that allows you to finish the game without too much trouble. If you found 1 and 2 difficult on Easy, no need to worry because 3 is more balanced on Easy and you will be able to enjoy the game in "tourist mode" though it is not a walk in the park, you will need to invest a little bit of effort however far less than in 1 and 2.

    Cons:

Graphics-the engine seems to suffer from sudden fps drops here and there, you are in the same area and moved 5 meters yet sometimes the framerate drops by 15-20 fps for no particular reason, good thing is that it is right back up so you dont notice the drop much.

Main quest-I found it to be a bit underwhelming and quests that lead to the conclusion much more interesting. Also in one quest writing is off and makes no sense to how a certain character would act, it doesnt fit his personality, lets say it is a quest that involves a king, those who played the game will likely know what I mean. Writing is generally very good but this error made me angry a bit because I liked that character.

Dungeon crawling-not much of that in Witcher 3, most locations are above ground and loot is stingy.

Economy-making money in Witcher 3 is somewhat difficult, you tend to have a lot of money when you are too powerful anyway and dont need it much. Before that you spend what you earn on obtaining a few items and repairing armor and weapons.

Enemies-not too many variants, this could definitely need improvement. Boss enemies are better and usually connected with quests which makes them more interesting.

NSFW-they definitely cut down the NSFW content compared to 1 and 2, yes there are still boobs and asses, and you have brothels, but overall NSFW content is not as strong as 1 and 2.

Overall it is a massive and interesting game with lots of attention given to details. Despite a few flaws, and very few games dont have them, it is an excellent game that is worth every euro I paid for it

Now I would be the first to admit that Ye olden Times stories have no meaning to me. I dislike games set in medieval times, give me a space age game any day. But that is my personal tastes and taking that into account I still really like this game, which says a lot. But on the down side there are just parts of the story that bore me and leave me clicking through the endless lines.

A great game that requires a strong computer, but delivers breath-taking graphics. Great story that will keep you riveted to your chair for hours, with a lots of great happy and sad moments. A simple combat system that is a thousand times better than The Witcher (which brings back a shudder.)
This is the game that everyone loves, even though there are a hundred and one minor issues. Pointing most of them all out is often met with a laugh and shrug (in a humorous way) and a mention of how overly critical you are. So here is the double standard list of the small and very numerous bugs and quirks can quickly grate.
    1) Having struggled through the frustration of the 100th ignition of a candle instead of opening that chest/bookshelf/etc. How could a company not see that, where are CD Projekt RED’s Game testers, shoot them all! And why does a chest need an unlit candle on it in the first place?
    2) The fact that Geralt can roll up mountains, still makes me laugh. While a fall of 5-10 feet is met with instance death. This lead to the discovery that Roach can jump from mountains, falling 50+ feet without the same death response. Further leading to the discovery that rolling up mountains and jumping off with roach is actually good fun.
    3) Navigating at speed can make it difficult to get Roach or Geralt through doorways. Extremely annoying and awkward in towns and tight places.
    4) The ends of potions that generally serve no purpose. Granted I made the decision of getting the Cat Armour which boosted my attack power ludicrously. To the extend I was able kill a wolf with a single death punch. Early on you realise you can get by with slashing and use of the signs, using potions/bomb seems like an over extravagant extra.
    5) The silly notion that you can repair your weapons in combat but can’t use oils… well that was an oversight!
    6) Overly critical … told you, but at the end of the game it all adds up.

But the crux of the matter, if this was EA, I would be more relentless … shoddy this … rubbish that. But this is a small company that is starting up. But that got me thinking, while they are still small by compassion, they have been around for years (Witcher, and REDengine, came out in 2007) and they boast around 230 employees. So half of me wonders why in the third release of this franchise they haven’t sorted these things out yet? It just seems a less polished turd than EA would normally dish out. And maybe it’s a bit unfair to compare them, though at this point I am still willing to give them the benefit of doubt.
None of the above is an attack on how good this game is and it was well enjoyed… Expecting great things for CyberPunk2077 (and hoping that they will decide to release it.)
But the perhaps the biggest shocker is that Ciri isn’t the only one with Elder Blood … Equine haired, able to teleport … Roach looks very suspicious!

Dark, huge world of Witcher is inviting you once again. Geralt will have more blood on his hands, more girls on his... more spells in his arsenal.

Lol, CD Projekt Red made a masterpiece again. This one will keep me glued for weeks.

very nice RPG games. A lot of details and great story. Smooth combat control, various monsters and enemies, unexpected plot twist. Decision you make in the game can cause immediate effect or end game effect. So be wary of your decisions.

Without a doubt is one of the best game i ever played , It's not perfect but i think that no game is/was/will be perfect , so i decided to reward it with a 10 . The game is so big , at times overwhelming but it never falls in repeatability . The graphics are simply the best that could be found in a RPG atm . The characters are so well done that some times you feel like you're actually speaking with a real person , they react rationally and make you actually care for them.
This is one of the best value/for money games out there .

The Witcher 3 says no to all of this - it's a great game with a fully realized setting, it's a joy to play, the business model behind it treats its customers like human beings, and it delivers a story that finally hits the tone of the books.

Probably the best open-world RPG ever made, but it still falls prey to some of the genre's worst traps.

I've made it pretty clear that it's hardly a flawless game, but that doesn't change the fact that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is something pretty bloody special and you should absolutely play it.
