The reason there are so many low scores is because people are comparing it to Sims 3. No, it's not an open world and it doesn't have as many customization options but the Sims 4 still offers a lot. Here are some good and bad points:

+The graphics are much better. + Loading times are much faster. Realistically in Sims 3 when your sim traveled from point A to point B it took time anyway.

+ There are loads of skills.
+ It's easier to be sociable as you can talk to more than one sim easily and there are always plenty of people walking about the areas.
+ So many new things to cook!!!
+ Although they have got rid of create-a-style, which I personally didn't use much anyway, the clothing, hairstyles, flooring, wallpapers etc all look much better.

    - I miss having the Sims face pop up when I click on an object. Don't know why they took that out.
    - Where are the medicine, police & business careers?
    - There's not a huge amount of things to do / places to go... however it is the base game. My gameplay is usually centered around building a family so I don't leave the home lot much anyway, maybe once every other sim day. They could've thought of a place much better than a museum to visit, seems a waste.
    - No story progression. Who wants to change to each household and make them have kids etc??? Not me.

So far I am having fun and think that all the negative views are unwarranted. It's still a good fun game, it's just very different to the Sims 3.

It looks like it could be a great game but it's buggy, crashes a lot, and there seems to be less content than in the previous one. For now, Create-a-Sim is the only commendable thing in the game. Maybe if I manage to keep it running for more than five minutes, it will even be fun. There is one improvement, though, and that's why it got a "2": it loads faster than the third installment. Way faster.

Further to make room for the game they've removed most of the interface resulting in not having a buy-menu button. The buy menu is now a sub section of the build menu which is confusing and ends in a search marathon on first play.

Further to rotate the bought object you have to either use the keyboard to be able to rotate clock- and counterclockwise or click the right button to rotate it clockwise. I've preferred the old system where I was able to click and hold the mousebutton and the drag the mouse around.

Base games in the Sims series have always been a clean slate as compared to its predecessors so you have to look at this game subjectively. When bad reviews are given on the precedent of lacking features from previous iterations with all EP/SP ect. it is unfair and extremely bias. I suggest watching live streams of game play via youtube or twitch if you are still on the fence about the Sims 4. No review or article can replace first hand experience. Just because one review likes or doesn't like something doesn't mean that you yourself will also hate it. I had to give this game and 8 out of 10 for the missing features (toddlers and pools) because that is the only thing that has annoyed me thus far. The loading screens I prefer over the Sims 3 due to the fact of less freezing and having to rely on modders to fix my borked game. I typically have loading times of 10-15 seconds. Expand

ok.. first of all i love sims.. Im have played every sims with all expansions.. When they announced Sims 4 i was kinda excited but i didnt expect anything good it EA! What can u expect from such greedy company whos destroying everything good?

    To the game:

Pros: Ui is definitely better it more intuitive and u can search items by names or filter.. thats very nice
Moods: well it isnt definitely implemented the best but its kinda nice feature.. Your sims now "feels" and trying to act like normal human he can be flirty , focused , sad, etc.. The interaction with items ll getting changed in addittion in what mood u are same with socializing.. But thats all .. First 2 hours its kinda new feature and good but then its feel incompleted, empty.. If u were playing Sims 4 u know what I wanna say its just bad .... And thats all pros what u can expect from Sims 4...

Cons: Theres so much featured took away.. No color wheel only few basic colors, no repairman, no schools, no real working u just send ur sim to work and u got stucked in ur house unless u dont have another sim at home. New carrer is kinda weird... U take a job and in order to become promoted u have to make special little quest like write a book, make game etc... it sounds very good but in play its bored cuz u are always stucked at home.. Neighbours are separated, u live in livehood with like 4 houses thats all... And ofc u just cant go to the neighbour knock on the door or check for his/her trash you have to click on his house and loading screen appears... WTF?!! in 2014 next gen game.. Socializing is totally broken... You can have army of normarriage kids if u wanna wohoo/ sex/ just go to the library or gym spoke little to someone use few flirts take his/her home and just wohoo.. u can wohoo like 2 3 girls/ guys in one night... You can have like army of nonmarriage children as i said .. The worst part is sims do have emotions but only those crapy *** which they have implemented.. Someone pls tell me how can one guy have sex with every girl in city in less that one day of playing and they are growing pretty fast:D u woohoo and two days after ur chick come to u as pregnant 2 days next u got a baby :D and like few days he s a teenager wth?:D Theres no real feeling about it and its just totally weird.. Everything is totally cheapr except few items like one bad cost 1500 dolars and the best one cost 13000? or something like that.. It seems EA doesnt wanna from theircustomers to get bored so if u wanna the best crap which is like 0,00001% better pay aditional 12000 dolars for one bed wth...

Sims 4 brings new additions to skills... its like some little rpg.. for example u cant buy like half of items from shop cuz if u wanna buy for example best computer u have to become tech guru lvl 10 so u have to work with computers etc.. or u cant upgrade ur stuff unless u have repair level 8 or something.. it totally weird that half of content u just cant buy cuz its locked.. yeah sure EA again dont wanna their customers get bored but theres better way how to not get bored zheir customers.. its just feels all clunky and stupid

The bunch of items missing like dishwasher burglars cars, bicycle etc...
And ofc stupid people ll buy it and are waiting for new expansions like stupid sheeps... Yeah with expansios it l be definitely better i guess cuz they are gonna implement new content but its so mean and stupid from EA to so much *** with their customers....

so its up to u readers if u wanna become sheep and play this crap or send ur bucks or euros to buy something in real life like flowers for ur wife or for ur real kid.....

Waste of time and money. much less content, less items, less features. Pretty sure that EA has already prepared a loooooot of content already ready to be released if you,re proned to pay 25$ in order to have a swimming pool, a baby, a car (25$ for each item don't be so naive). I don't agree with this kind of policy. i,m feeling like robbed. Hope that EA gonna do something.

First impressions last. The graphics are cartoonish, the game glitches and crashes even though I have a brand new high quality game card and memory. The build mode is clunky. Very little customization, the sky is no longer your limit. I feel like the whole game was a massive step back, they worked so hard on the relationship building - which i can't honestly see anything too exciting about, and trashed all the building modes/customization. I know I'm not the only one that absolutely loved that part of the game. An absolute disappointment. I don't think I'll be getting any expansion packs with this one. Frankly, I want my money back!!! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For those of you who don't remember, The Sims 3 launch initially didn't have many features/items either. Maxis/EA eventually added them later in expansion packs/updates.

Now as for The Sims 4 - the Create-A-Sim function is vastly improved - the sheer amount of sim customization is mind-boggling. The ability to change clothing & furniture textures and customize clothing colors is absent at the moment (will probably be released later in some kind of free update) but this is adequate for the time being.

The new Build mode is also a huge upgrade. Gone are the days of spending 6+ hours building and furnishing a massive mansion for your sim. Build mode now allows a player to plop a fully furnished room and drag out the sides to either increase or decrease the size of the room.

Another huge improvement is the graphics - woohoo baby! The sims look like real people (gone are the unrealistic jagged edges from The Sims 3) The lighting inside homes and buildings is spot on fantastic.

If you are unsure about buying this - wait a few weeks/months and then pick it up (give the developers a chance to tweak a few things/release updates).

Also you can't compare the past games to this it's a brand new base game and will only get better in the future ^_^ it's not perfect but it's amazing for what it is now and I didn't even realized

But I can overlook that, because there are so many new things in the Sims 4. Its Just Amazing. It Works Offline, there are Options for Mods, so i think there is a Mod Support. I didn't find any Bugs or issues. It's just Fun to Play. And i just love the new Emotions. The New Create a Sim is just so innovative and easy. I love it.

I hope for more positive Comments from Users who don't rate bad because of EA. I saw a lot of Comments on Youtube and most of them just hate EA but, whats wrong with them?

I hope for other Consumers that they have also so much Fun playing it.

The game runs smooth, significantly better than its predecessor on the same system. The animations and non-binary emotions lead to more character depth. The world looks beautiful, albeit heavily stylized with a pixar-like aesthetic. Livemode is significantly more challenging than its predecessors.

The aspirations and "whims" are more like the "wants" in Sims 2, where they're short term goals generated by a character's personality and life goals. Don't mistake its cartoonish look for depth of gameplay, this is definitely a strategy game, where you have to manage time and manipulate social interaction to meet your goal. It's still a sandbox though. You choose the goals for yourself and the game doesn't punish you if you choose to ignore them.

If you're reading this, it's likely you already know about "the big changes", but don't let the mostly inaccurate, totally inane lists fool you. Bottom line, this is a fun, high performing game, a game with substance and characters with depth.

If they patch in moveobjects on, I'll knock the score up to ten.

I played literally thousands of hours in total (from The Sims 1-3) and really they are fantastic games. And The Sims 4 continues to be fantastic. Many players complain about its features and gameplay when they have not even played at least an hour to kind of experience it. I love it, I have played a total of 20 hours since its release 3 days ago and its going great for me, of course so far I have encountered a few bugs here and there but nothing big that will make me rage and hate it...
I love how the way sims interact with each other is WAY much more realistic than previous Sims games.. To me, TS3 sim interactions were kind of dull and some animations were reused over and over, but in this new game, every interaction has its own animation, and the Emotion, thingy is also a great and huge addition to the game..
In conclusion, I do not mind the fact that it is not open world, nor that it does not include pools and toddlers. To me, this game is fantastic in every way and was well worth $65.00, and to those who do not like it and are hating it, go back to The Sims 3 and stop hating the hard work Maxis has put in to make such a wonderfull game.. Peace out fellow Simmers!!

It feels like alot of core features is missing and it's just filled with gamebreaking bugs,

This is ridiculous. It's Civilization 5 all over again. Maxis tries to pour in it's vision and heart to move the franchise forward, at the cost of fluff (that can easily be added afterwards) and the backlash is once again off the charts.

You can't make a real change without investing something in it. That will be at the cost of some other things. I believe Maxis had their priorities

I admit I miss the open world. I also slightly miss the color pallet and the pools. The content is a little thin for the price. But the core has become so much better. Multitasking is something that I wanted for ages, and the emotion system has made me laugh quite a few times. The character creation and building is definitely a lot better too, just genius. Also, many people here are telling how you can only default to standard styles in sim and house creation, which is just blatantly not true, but it's simply the standard edit mode you enter.

People will be people and always look at what they lost instead of what they gained. If you're openhearted, you will have a great time. The origin version is a little pricey though, which I was happy to pay, but the bar is pretty high.

All in all I'm having a ton of fun, and I'm looking forward to the DLC's to pour my euros into. I trust you'll make the core flourish to new heights with those additions, Maxis!

Mac users have completely been left out of the loop on this one and should consider themselves spared rather than woefully neglected. Speaking of woefully neglected - let's talk about The Sims 4! EA has once again outdone itself by releasing an incomplete game that feels like a step back with missing features, unresolved bugs and a required Origin account. It's sad to see such a great franchise run into the ground. But hey everyone, don't worry - the missing features will eventually be made available in an endless procession of expansion packs, DLC and add-ons. If they release a Grim Reaper & Ghosts add-on for under $5 (yes, I know I'm dreaming, it'll be at least $30), I'll up my rating to a 2. ;) Sad to see this happen, but not at all surprised. I rated it a 1 rather than a zero because I liked some of the new features (namely Create a Sim), but the missing features make it feel like an incomplete game (even the first Sims had pools!), so I can't justify giving it any higher than a 1 unless EA actually listens to player outcry and adds in the missing features in a free "apology download." I am a long time Sims fan. I have every expansion pack, game, stuff pack ever released since the Sims 1. I even have most of the overpriced store items. I really was looking forward to this, and pushed aside all of the doubts pregame.

The good- Create a sim (CAS) has a lot if improvements. The clothes in the base game of The Sims 4 are much improved from earlier versions. When I played the demo, I was very excited in seeing cute and stylish clothes offered in CAS. I've never liked male clothes in this game, but this one has stylish and modern clothes for both sexes. The hair, glasses, and accessories are cute as well. The UI for CAS is easy to navigate, and I like that they categorize the types of clothing you can use. I also love the flexibility in modelling the faces. For the first time, I feel as if I can create strong ethnic features and distinctive faces.

The bad: There are many problems with TS4, but I will only highlight the area that is lacking the most for me, and that's the incompleteness of the game. Practically everyone, even people who have given this "game" a good review have mentioned that this game is lacking of content. And don't be fooled into thinking that the game may be incomplete due to the fact that it's only the base game. As someone who has owned base games of the sims 1-3, I can absolutely say that this game has WAY LESS than the base games from previous entries in the franchise. And it's not even close.

When I loaded the game, there were two empty lots. TWO. I thought, seriously??? That is IT? Apart from that, there are four community lots- a museum, a library, a gym, and a lounge. There was also a park I think, but that's it. The neighborhood is tiny. Then you, have to endure the fact that each lot has a loading screen. Even to go next door, there is a loading screen. So, when you have two sims, and you travel with one to another lot, you LOSE the control of the other. Not that there's many lots to visit. Isn't this what happened in the Sims 2?

Don't be fooled by the things you read by EA claiming this is a much "improved" game. They brag about the "seamless" travel between the different neighborhoods. Sure you can travel between the two available neighborhoods. However, those two neighborhoods combined are maybe a third the size of a normal neighborhood in previous versions of the game. There are no restaurants, grocery stores, business centers, theaters.. there's practically nothing.

EA said that with the advanced new system for emotions, moods, etc, they had to leave some things out. As someone very familiar with all the games, I have to say that the moods are cool, but that's it, just kind of interesting. The addition of the moods in no way make up for ridiculously incomplete neighborhood. They didn't leave some things out, they left everything out.

EA said that this game would run so much better on your computer, that the lag would no problem anymore, etc. Two problems with that claim for me. First, yes, I agree, the game runs smoother with less lag (though I have a pretty decent computer so I never had a lot of lag). And I would hope it would, the neighborhood is so stripped down that there isn't nearly enough content to cause lag. Because as I've mentioned many times already, there's NOTHING THERE. Second, this unfortunately claim was also completely untrue for me as there were a lot of bugs when I played, such as actions being cancelled, Sims getting stuck...etc

I don't think this game will get better because it's started so low. TS4 is so far below the other versions, I can't see expansions making up for what they failed to add when they are starting on such a low bar.

I submitted a return request. I never thought I would do it for my favorite game in the world. I encourage others who bought this game on Origin and who dislike it to do the same. Do not reward EA with good first week sales for giving us crap. Within 24 hours of first launch of the game, you can submit your return request. The link is here. https://www.origin.com/en-us/great-game-guarantee

My last thing to say is that I a really annoyed at EA for completely letting us down. What the hell were you doing for all these years??

I've only played for about 18 hours so far, and already I'm bummed about this game. There just aren't enough improvements to justify the roll backs. The price should not have been $60. A more fair price would have been $40. And if EA wants me to buy at least 10 expansions... They better hope they aren't more than $20 each.

When the game started, it was all white... everything was different. I was like : oh nice, this is new. Then I created my Sim and finally started to play... my first thought was : man this look exactly like the Sims 2. The graphics are awful and I run in Ultra mode. It is just like in the past! And then, I was like : well, emotions must be pretty nice... but after some time, I realized that it was nothing new. We already had it in the Sims 3, but under another name. It was the mood. Not this detailed, but still the same thing. When the Sim was it a bad mood, it was impossible to make it do something, just like the Sims 4.

I really don't like this game. The waiting time when you change lot are awful. What is that? WHY? I had all expansions of the Sims 3 on my laptop and It was as fast as the empty Sims 4... I won't buy it. This is scrap with a lot of thing missing. I'm not talking about the expansions of the last opus, but about things that were with the last bases games. I have been a fan of The Sims since the first opus. Not anymore.

I played a fair bit last night and my impressions so far:

    Pro:
The UI is smooth and seamless. The interface is simple, clean and fresh.
No lag, no freezing, no crashes.
You can add community creations from in-game without crashing.
Build mode is a definite improvement, with so many adjustable things, if you make a mistake you don't have to start from scratch.
You have so much more, control and options for face & body shapes in CAS.
    All clothing for pregnancy!
    The multitasking is excellent.
Bars & Mixology in base game is great.
Time slower than TS3, so you have more time in the day. Also sleeping and at work can go faster on the fastest speed so you aren't waiting around forever (like it felt in ts3 for you sim to wake up.)

    Cons:
I don't feel as connected to the neighbours and townies as I did in the sims 3, they just feel like background decoration, even with 'emotions.'
So let down that they didn't just add weather and pets to base game, these things should just be in it by now, expansion packs should add new things, give you a difference not take out things that can already be in there to sell back to us.
I really do miss the toddler stage, not so much the pools but I understand why a lot of people want the pools.
I miss the colour wheel, I can do without the texture wheel, but the colour wheel really makes you feel as though you have made it your own.
Ohhh god, I hope they add some kind of story progression, this is what made the sims 3 for me. The neighbours and townies felt more real, because they would live their lives, even without you their, they felt more real and you connected to them more.
No npc, fireman, burglar is a let down.
It does feel like the careers were a bit rushed, but I love you get rewards other than just money. I hope they add a doctor and all the others to it. I loved being a doctor in the sims 3.
It feels like it doesn't even matter if I make friends because I don't feel anything for those sims. They don't seem to have the same life and appeal as the sims 3.

All in all this isn't a terrible game, it doesn't feel worth 80 dollars, but it isn't horrible. There is room for improvement and I hope that EA listen to us simmers about the improvement that can be made. I am enjoying it, I love how my sims personal act in the sims 4 , I really like the emotions, multitasking is really handy for when you woke up late and have to rush to get ready for work.

If you want this game, but worried. Wait for it to be a reasonable price, because while I do think this game has a lot of good things, with many things that can be implemented later, right now as it is without any expansion it is lacking.

I'd like to start out by saying that I am no Sims veteran. I played the third installment of The Sims casually but never quite got into the game as much as say, Civilization V but that's just the result of personal taste. I played the third installment of The Sims casually but never quite got into the game as much as say, Civilization V but that's just the result of personal taste. I was very excited for this latest installment of The Sims, though. This was primarily because I had begun to realize the depth of The Sims 3 and it looked like MAXIS was going in a new direction with this game.

Now that the game has released, I can say that I find it to be a rather good game. Sure, a large number of clothing customization features have been removed as well as free access to every area of the town and even the town size (which I was really surprised at how small the towns now are) But I feel that some of these "step-backs" were implemented for very useful reasons.

My machine cost me over $2000 to build. It can run Battlefield 4 on ultra settings with super-sampling enabled. Though this is the case, I was plagued with extremely long load times, freezes, and lag that really didn't make much sense since the Sims 3 was a 2009 game and all of my hardware is top of the line from 2013. I can honestly say that in the Sims 4 I have never once experienced any noticeable performance drops which is very nice.

I also feel that the graphics in the game are a nice change. Colors are much more vibrant and I honestly prefer the look of the sims in this game as opposed to those in The Sims 3. Often times I would get this uncomfortable "uncanny valley" feel while playing The Sims 3 as the graphics were relatively realistic but at the same time obviously not real life. The sims in The Sims 4 though, are much more cartoon-like and while this may not appeal to everyone, I feel that the exaggerated expressions and body language of these new sims is a pleasant step in a new direction that doesn't necessarily kill immersion while at the same time adding a gorgeous new approach to your sims. In fact, I think the whole game is darn pretty.

I also feel that the customization is a big tradeoff. On one hand, you have the massive depth increase in creating your sims. I've found personally that the create-a-sim in the game is very open ended and just plain fun to mess around with making all kinds of characters. But on the other hand, you have a total lack of customization when it comes to clothes colors. In fact, this is probably one of the most frustrating parts of the game. Sure, you can still make thousands of clothing combinations but really, only about a quarter of those actually look good or make any sense at all. I've found myself styling all of my sims rather similarly and this is just boring. One of the best things about the Sims 3 was the amount of clothing options. Though I am guessing that in later updates (and inevitable "stuff" packs) there will be slews of new clothing which will make up for the general lack of customization in this area.

I do have to say that MAXIS really has done a great job of revamping the whole Build-Mode. Everything in it is much more accessible and fluid. Gone are the days of having to cheat to make half blocks. I feel that this is one area I was really pleasantly surprised to find different and better. House building has never been my strong suit especially because of the level of trivia that was necessary to really comprehend everything about house-making. But now it's been made a lot easier to use without taking away any of the depth that it had before.

The new objective-based Lifetime Wish/Rewards system is really awesome. It no longer feels like just droning away with max-speed on like it was in The Sims 3. Now the game manages to incorporate a lot of the depth that wasn't necessarily apparent in The Sims 3 into your Lifetime Wishes without making it feel like you're being forced to meet specific criteria to complete objectives. I've actually found myself not checking the Lifetime Wish/Rewards panel as often as I did with the Journal in the Sims 3 but still completing objectives. This is really nice because it gives the player a level of autonomy while also guiding you to explore all the areas your sim's skills can be applied.

To wrap this up I have to say that I am generally happy with the way The Sims 4 has released. Sure, it has it's problems but it is in no way deserving of some of the ratings it has received from users. In fact, I'd say a large portion of these reviews were heat of the moment, emotion-packed, rants the likes of which you'd probably get from a child who didn't get a cookie in his lunch. So I think it's safe to say that this game has improved in a number of ways but also leaves room for improvement that we will probably see in the dozens of expansions this game will have. So I would recommend this game to any veteran fans of the series as well as those who have never played The Sims before. Just keep an open mind.

-Build Mode is a little clunky at first until you get used to the controls. I like adjusting wall heights and foundation heights. I love spanners and building decorations. I'm still looking for a way to do a split level house. I do miss basements and adjusting the landscape.

-Create a Sim is alright, initially it feels like you pick less traits and such, but once you are in gameplay and you see how the sim "lives" with the choices you made it makes sense.

    - I really like how they made traits and aspirations push the sims ambition. I also liked the mini-assignments you get for each level of a career path, like making an excellent grilled cheese sandwich to advance a cooking career.

    - Relationships in Sims 4 really are enhanced. I like how there is a separate romantic bar and friendship bar. The sims really do seem "smarter" and have a bit more depth than in previous versions.

-I miss Create A Style. I do, but I have faith that mods or expansions will give us more options in the future.

    - Gardening... yes it is here in a base version!! I'm still working on it but I can't wait to graft plants together!

Overall, to anyone reading this review, give the game a chance on your own time. If you do pick it up, look at it through the lens of a new game, not an old game revisited. I'll probably spend time in Sims 3 as well, but Sims 4 is a good base in its own right and I do not regret the purchase.

When I first saw the trailer, I was impressed with how they improved the graphics, gameplay and I was getting anxious about this game that was looking very, but very promising. Create a Sim is good, the better CAS in the franchise, except for the huge lack of "personality options". We don't have more than 10 aspirations to choose, the options to costumize your sim personality are pretty few. So, I created my sims and I was ready to start living. When you finish the creation, the game directs you to the map so you can choose your land, that's when I realized that the both cities are RIDICULOUS. It has some houses, which only 1/3 of them are occupied. Which city doesn't have more than a gym, a karaoke, a bar, a museum and a park.

The sims on your town just keep running around the city, they don't have a life. They grow old, but they don't work, don't have child, don't do NOTHING but walk around the city like zombies and visit the same public places that you are visiting. I don't know why they took off EVERYTHING cool that they created on Sims 3 just to have a game with crowded public places and silly, useless and anoying emotions. As a TS fan, I was very disappointed. More than 80 stuff was taken off from the game. It is two steps forward on build mode and create a sim, and five back on gameplay. Maybe. MAYBE the game can get better with some expansions pack, but then I'll need to take off some more $200 bucks from my wallet just to have a "complete" game, and still I won't gonna have more fun that I could have with Sims 3, which one is far more cheap AND better. It's just not worth the money, even if you are an The Sims fan. Thank God I can refund this crap.

This seems like a repeat of the new Simcity. I gave this game a 10 to balance out the moronic 0 reviews (if you can even call them reviews). I actually give this game a solid 8. Here's why:
Create a Sim: Vastly improved. Feels smooth and intuitive. No lag or hang ups as in past iterations. Body parts move the second you move your mouse to drag them out or in, unlike the .5-1 sec delay in graphically representing the change.

Create a Sim: Vastly improved. Feels smooth and intuitive. No lag or hang ups as in past iterations. Body parts move the second you move your mouse to drag them out or in, unlike the .5-1 sec delay in graphically representing the change. Downloading from the gallery and placing on your sim in seconds is a HUGE plus. Bookmarking certain items and outfits is also really nice.

Buy/Build mode: Fixed a ton of the "why can't I do..." questions I used to ask. You mean I can just move that window I just put a couch in front of without having to click into build mode and wait for it to load in? Thank you. I can even move it up the wall if I like the light it gives right there? Thanks again. I wish this bedroom were over on this side of the house; I don't have to rebuild it from scratch? Awesome! This mode is by far the strongest upgrade from past iteration and some of the most satisfying game play you'll have with the Sims 4. I absolutely love everything about it. Plopping in entirely furnished rooms that I just downloaded from the gallery 10 seconds ago is so so cool.

The World/Lots: Ok, definitely some downsides here. When I first loaded the game (in like 7 seconds by the way) and picked my world I was struck by how limiting the world looked. That's something that isn't entirely ever going to go away. It seemed small and it kinda is, but there are plenty of housing lots to choose from. I would like the community lots to be more varied and have more of them (something to look forward to in an expansion I'm sure) but it's not a deal breaker. Also, to say I had to "load" the world is almost an overstatement. This game is lightening fast and silky smooth.

Live Mode: Definitely some glitches/design choices that need patching/changing. Sims like playing musical chairs sometimes when interacting, like they have a nervous tick that requires pacing to alleviate. And the items in my house are constantly breaking. A good way to level up my skills, but sometimes I'd rather just call the repairman from the previous games. But the game has difficulty. Just when I think I'm starting to make it, bills are due and I need a new computer or bed. Money doesn't grow on trees (yet, Sims 3 ugh). Sim-Sim interactions feel real and interesting. So many options that it doesn't need to be "hug, chat, hug, chat, hug, chat, hug..." to make friends anymore. The UI is a big upgrade as well letting my virtual life fill more of the screen than ever before. And whats the point of watching your sim go into some faceless rabbit hole. Just go to work, see ya soon; although it'd be nice to look at ambitions/mood/skills etc. when working. That'll be patched soon I'm sure. I think it features a fair amount of variety considering this is a base game with a brand new engine. That's what expansions are for anyway.

Overall this is a pretty good iteration of the sims. A ton of improvements and additions. Maybe not quite enough to make up for some of the omitted content but again, new engine complicates things sometimes. The graphics are a big step up. Seriously just google image "sims3 vs sims4". It's a joke how good this game looks. It's smooth and intuitive and I'll take more load screens and almost instant saves over a 4 minute load time, 4 minute saves any day. The addition of the Gallery is going to be huge and EA is offering unoffical, but FULL mod/creation support. This game has a ton of potential

If you are a huge sims fan, you'll love this game. If you are a casual simmer there's still a lot to like here. If ALL you want is a game with toddlers and pools, wait I guess. If you like huge load times, laggy worlds, robotic animations, and bloated Create-a-style options, this is not your game.

By the way, THIS is a review, albeit a short one. Rating a game a zero means, to me, that it is completely unplayable. Even if a game is absolute trash, but loads and plays somewhat, you can't give it a 0. Also when rating a game low, more than 5 sentences should still be a requirement. But any one rating this game less than 4 is a liar.

Generally disappointed by this game. The tutorial is horrible and not optional, the map is gray and even smaller than both Sims 2 and 3, there is even a load time every time you opens and closes the map. The whole gameplay aspect of the game feels very much like taking a step backwards from the other games, with the emotion system as an only exception.

But coming from The Sims 3 with all its expansions and Stuff packs, ofcourse people will be left feeling cheated, it would be impossible to make The Sims 4 feel as fully featured as The Sims 3. The Sims 4 is a good one, but it does nothing special with the series and just feels like solid ground work to base their future expansions on, which I'm sure will be a much better experience then The Sims 3, but until then, just enjoy what's on offer and look forward to see what they do with it and leave The Sims 3 installed on your PC...

The time system was bugged and a lot of other things too, but the graphics were better, the customization were amazing and it has everything I needed to build wonderful houses (which I do mostly with the Sims) and play in a realistic world (more or less).

Over the time Sims 3 was getting less buggy and with the Addons there came nearly everything I wished for (and a lot I would rather not have like fairies and sparkling vampires). I only missed to have a own shop like in the Sims 2. But when buying a lot of DLCs (like hairs, cloth etc.) and the Addon the engine was put to the ground and in the end (maybe it was strategic from EA) it didn't make any fun anymore, because there was no fluent gaming possible even with my high end PC.

So instead of creating an engine with could handle an Open World with a lot of items and characters, Maxis proofed again, after SimCity, that they are not talented programmers.
Sims 4 is a step back to Sims 2, meaning limited to a single active lot with loading screens if you want to change the lot. There are no rabbit holes anymore and the Sims disappear if they go to work etc. (Even Sims 2 had them)...
A lot of items which were basic even in Sims 1 are missing, like the dish washer, pools and even toddlers.
It is very funny (unintentionally I guess) the lack of difference between the ages in Sims 4.
When getting older from Teen to Young Adult to Adult to Old Adult, only a very little changes are mad to the figure (like getting a little bit fatter and shoulders going down) and the textures changes a bit. But there is no more different highs or really visual signs of the age.
Besides from that the Create a Sim is much better than in the Sims 3 - unmodified that is. With mods nearly all the new options were possible in Sims 3.
The Camera is a mess, but you can change it back to Sims 3 style. If you aren't fluent in the short cuts you gonna have a hard time with Sims 4. The placement of the different tools ind build mode (like the demolition tool) is horrible. The hole interface is horrible. You can filter everything and search for a special item. But you have to filter everything and search for it to find anything. All the items are based on the room you building right now (like Bathroom, Living-room etc.) and not after the base of the times like in Sims 1,2,3. So if you want to buy a roof lamp you have to look through every room if you have bad luck until you find it, or search for the name or lamp. But it will get really annoying if you have to use the keyboard for every item...
If you finally found the item, you have only have a very few colors to choose from. The beautiful customization tool (Create a Style) from Sims 3 is not there anymore.
The Colors look not even realistic. The hole Engine does not look realistic anymore. Everything, starting at the traits over the look to the animations, are looking like an after noon kids show.
Even the normal careers are gone. You can now become a Secret Agent or a Tech Guru... Very nice.

Sims 4 is all about Emotions and multitasking, EA and Maxis said.
The Emotions are nice, a bit comical but that is intended. They are nice. But not more than that. I will not miss them that much if I play Sims 3 again.
The multitasking could be really awesome but is unrealistic implemented. They will multitask everything, ever. If you say: Talk to this guy, the Sim will sit somewhere an talk. They will not just talk. They have to multitask all the time. Even when saying hello they will first sit down somewhere.
Ea said something about intelligence but the Sims have been and are in the Sims 4 plain dumb. They will not care about someone dying right in front of them if they are hungry. They will not care about anything if they are sleepy and so on.

I didn't spend that much time with the game to be honest, because it was so annoying and disappointing, maybe I missed the charm of the game because of that. But as a fan of the series for a long time I come to the conclusion: Don't buy this game! And there will be micro-transactions (buy a city, hair etc.), little DLCs every quarter-, and an addon similar to Sims 1,2,3 (you could see it in Sims 3: They made nearly the same addons like in Sims 2) to get the last out of this piece of garbage.

Maybe in one year it will fun to play, right now it is not.
Stay with the base Sims 3 or even Sims 2. It is much better than this game.

Now what they have done is created a game that is far behind the times. No Sims game is expected to be a graphic masterpiece, however this game is not even average. The Sims 3 came out over 5 years ago and at the time it was definitely above average as far as the look of the game goes and it still isn't bad today. The Sims 4 isn't good now, what will it be like in 5 years?

In their crusade to make the game be less demanding of the computer, Maxis stripped down many of the best features of The Sims 3 including the open world which gave the town a much more life-like feel. Many other features have been taken away as well and you can find many lists of them if you search the internet.

Ultimately, this game feels like something that was made for a tablet, not for a computer. While for a tablet the game would be good, as a consumer you're paying for a computer game and should be able to expect the type of quality we associate with computer games.

But when you realize you have to go through a load screen just to visit you neighbor, you will just turn off the game. The older Sims games were great, it seemed like you had to work to achieve things, there was progression. In this version you basically just send your sim to a job, keep all their needs sated and wait until you accomplish your goal. Your phone can basically do everything your sim needs. There's no upgrade path. There's no need to keep making your home better. You build a decent kitchen, get a nice bed, and some entertainment and you're done. Which is probably for the better since there's only a handful of items in the entire game.

Maybe in a few years when there's actually content in the game, it'll be worth a purchase. But if it's some obscene $150 price tag for the game it should have been at launch you can be damn sure I will not buy it. Time to try to request a refund from Origin. This'll be fun.

TLDR: If you enjoyed Sims 2 and hated Sims 3, you will like this game in a few months when it has DLC. If you've only been playing Vanilla Sims 2 for the last 10 years, then you'll look at this as a worthwhile upgrade.

Now as for the rest of the game, I'm greatly impressed so far. The emotions are a fun addition that give the spark of life to your sims that the previous game lacked. The ability to multitask is fantastic and adds a layer of subtlety to relationships. But the biggest improvement is to be found in performance. The game is more beautiful than its predecessor, yet it runs smoother than ever. No lag, screen freezes, whether you have a race car of a computer or an old, tired beetle. The price to pay for that is closed lots, you have to go through a loading screen whenever you go to another lot. While it's a bit of a bummer, I loved the open world in The Sims 3, and the sheer size of the cities ; it's a small price to pay for a beautiful *and* playable game. No toddlers is another bummer, but is it a big one? Well, it is if you greatly enjoyed that stage of your sims' lives. I didn't, usually went through it as fast as possible, get the baby skilled up and move on to the more interesting childhood stage. Also, no doubt toddlers will be added to a future expansion, maybe the equivalent of The Sims 6 Generations.
Overall, the game seems to sit on a strange fence, taking out some features (not necessarily the ones worthy of missing, who really cared about pools?), but adding a lot of depth to the sims themselves. A more constrained outside world, contrasting with a much deeper inner world. I'd have rated the game 8 on its current merits, but I added one point simply because the long trail of zeros in player reviews is disheartening and undeserved. I understand regretting the absence of (minor?) features, but denying the other qualities of the game because of it is just dishonest. Then again, there is probably a lot of EA (deserved) hate involved. But while Sim City was a joke and pretty much a huge failure, fans of the series shouldn't miss this refreshing new installment.

Basically it is either unfinished or one of the worst cases of holding stuff back for DLC that I have ever seen.

This game has left me incredibly disappointed. Being a legacy player I really can't get past the lack of toddlers. I love that the babies are clothed, but it just feels incomplete without a toddler in the house.
The emotions system I actually got bored of really quickly. If you regularly speed through the game the emotions won't add much to the gameplay.
    I enjoy the multitasking, but

I was really looking forward to this game so I'm sad that it has fallen short of what I expected out of a Sims game. I'll be taking advantage of the 24 hour return policy on Origin.

I guess in 4-5 years it will be a complete and good game. However, right now, you can smell those 20-30 expansion packs ahead of us, each one for 30$.

Make yourself a favor and do not buy this game. Get it in several years when all the features (that are probably already created and good to go) are implemented.

It is important for The Sims 4 to be considered a game of it's own accord, not a sequel to the other Sims games. However, I know that is now the case for many fans who are completely unhappy with the look and feel of The Sims 4. The game was pushed to the limit with their deadline, a common knowledge, and it was not fully finished. I too was initially unhappy and was extremely critical of the game's possible outcome.

Since then, I have played the game itself and have come to the understanding that this is a separate game. It will take time for some people to even adjust to the new mechanics. The feel of The Sims has a complete overhaul of micro management that you can put as much or as little focus in as you want.

Emotions: As we've been drilled into our heads, the new -emotions- actually play a large part in what our Sims actually will/want to do and how they go about finishing it. Many people have compared this to the aspirations/wants/fears/whims that we've had in previous installments of The Sims series and they are correct in some regard. The emotion affects not just what the sim wants, but how they appear, how they interact with other sims, how they make their food, how they paint, how they even go to the restroom. This is definitely a feature that can be considered a 'hassle' by some fans that might prefer the strategist type of playing and for those that also like to fast forward through the game as the sims build skills, cook, and so on.

Missing Content: Pools, toddlers, CASt, and so on. The babies are tied to a bassinet that you can only interact with when standing in front of it. However, when you consider it a new game first and a sequel second, the review should focus on what the game has, not what it doesn't have. I will make note that every Sim game has began as a base and worked back in the expansions that The Sims fans has come to love. This one is no different.

Build/Buy Mode: The word intuitive is truly the catch all for the new build/buy mode of The Sims 4. They have completely revamped the way rooms and houses work to give fans the features they so desired from the past games. Ability to move rooms and full houses with just a click and drag of the button. There are more details than before, fences that can curve, and a built in "MOO" (Move Objects On) hotkey that allows easier placement of items. There is even a hotkey to increase/decrease size of an object so if you ever wanted a huge llama hedge in your front lawn, you may now rejoice. As a subpar builder myself, I found myself easily able to create what I considered a masterpiece of a house easily. Objects are easier to place closer together due to improved routing (but that will be discussed in a moment).

The Gallery: This is the feature of being able to upload/download sim households, lots, and rooms with a click of the button to/from the cloud. It features a tab to keep your own personal content in "My Library" that isn't publicly shared, let's you follow others (Origin friends are automatically followed), and is Custom Content free. Players can place hashtags on their content to make it easier to search for. The Gallery is lacking in features such as searching for sims based on weight, age, skin tone, traits, and so on.

Achievements/Unlocks/Collectibles: There are special rewards for careers and achievements that can unlock items for rooms, skill building items, outfits, and entire premade rooms themselves. This is a joy for the completionist Simmer that likes having -all- the things. There are even venues that can be found by observing a strange tree and interacting with it, or building your handiness up to the max and breaking into an old mine shaft. These venues cannot have lots placed into them, but have special collectibles that can only be found there. They are aesthetically pleasing, but lacking in things to interact with.

Smart Sims/Routing: Routing has always made The Sims feel blocky in previous installments. These sims still turn on a heel but are quicker to respond to action queues than other Sims games. They respond nearly immediately and smoothly adjust into the new action in the queue. Sims will move from one seat to the other between actions while having a conversation and sims will move through each other if necessary. It definitely needs some tweaks.

Loading Screens: These are short (10-15 sec) and minimally intrusive, a trade off to improve gameplay across the game by repopulating lots that are loaded and minimizing framerate drop. And indeed, the lots are bustling and there is plenty of area to explore outside of each individual lot itself. Neighborhoods are open to explore and interact in while each individual lot requires loading.

Overall: The Sims 4 is a good -base game- that will lay the foundation of more to come in its future. It feels more interactive and hilarious. The first Sims game that I wanted to play in normal speed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've never written a review for any game before this one but decided it was time to debunk some of the myths and hate going around about this game. First, before I get into specifics, let's get some of the myths and misconceptions out of the way. For those complaining about what the game doesn't have, I hate to burst your collective bubble, but many things I have read people saying 'should be included in the TS4' such as pets, weather, etc, were expansions in TS2 as well TS3; so why expect them in the base of TS4?

As far as those people saying the game was built for DLC in the future, they are absolutely correct. However, as an avid simmer, I know this isn't alien territory if you've played any Sims iteration in the last decade. If you buy this game, expect a base or 'vanilla' game and don't judge it compared to previous titles in the series with loads of expansions.

All that being said though, I can see great success for The Sims 4 in the future. No, it isn't open world like TS3, but then again, my computer (i7-4770k 8-core 3.5GHz with 32 Gb RAM) was sluggish with TS3 and all of its expansions. With the small 'neighborhoods' of Sims 4, the gameplay is extremely fast and responsive. What I don't think I've seen anyone mention as of yet is that even though the 'towns' are relatively small compared to Sims 3, you are able to have your sims travel to any neighborhood, even those in other towns! With this modular style of towns, I can see the game running just as well in 5 years with a dozen expansions as it does right now.

Of course this means there are loading screens when you travel to other areas. I'm not going to sugarcoat this or make it seem insignificant; with my monster PC, the load time averages between 15-20 seconds. That being said though, my sims couldn't travel across town that fast in Sims 3, so I figure I'm actually getting to my destination faster at the expense of some of the previous version's immersion, gladly I might add. No, there are no cars for your sim to jump into to watch them spend 2 minutes real time (an hour sim time) driving to work, the club, gym, whatever. A wise removal of a 'feature'(?) in my opinion.

I've also seen people complaining about the reduction of traits in Sims 4. While technically true, it is very misleading to those who haven't tried the game out. You now only get to actually choose 3 traits (down from Sims 3 traits which had 5).However, besides the 3 traits you get to choose, you also choose an aspiration and each aspiration has a bonus trait attached to it. I haven't played more than the 2 sims I've created and played so far, but each of the 2 have aspirations that were previously traits (one being computer whiz, the other romantic). So, with the traits now renamed aspirations along with their bonus trait (fast learner for computer whiz, alluring for romantic), my sims have a total of 5 traits, even though one has been renamed as an aspiration. So, you're not losing out on anything, they've just been relabeled and a couple are bundled together as a complimenting pair.

Now the fun stuff, what's been added! I'm sure everyone has read about the multitasking and may think it isn't a big deal. Think about it for a minute though. Rather than your sim running through your Q'ed up actions one by one, you can do multiple things at once and fulfill more than one need at a time. Sit on the toilet and play a game on your phone or give somone a call (bladder need + fun or social need); chat with your opponent while you play chess (social + fun), etc. I'm sure those of you who played previous versions can see where this is a HUGE improvement in managing your sim's time.

The game has also taken a shift back to its core and focused a lot on sim's emotions and reactions to their surroundings in ways that are a great addition in my eyes. Some of it is buggy right now, like my sim being upset when there was a fire in his kitchen, but then being happy when he ran outside.

After playing for a couple days, I'm not going to say the game is perfect. There are some bugs which in my opinion is to be expected in a game this new. There's not a load of content, but then there wasn't in any of the previous base games either. Will EA/Maxis handle the expansions the way I see them in my head and have them working with the harmony I can foresee? I doubt it very seriously, at least not until the community of simmers can come together and see the game for its positives instead of immediately writing it off for what they hoped would be in it to start with and let EA know that with the changes we're seeing, we expect them to build off of a good start and continue to improve and not destroy a beloved franchise.

Give the game a chance and you may also see the value in what has been changed or removed. Rather than the sluggish and buggy previous title, this one has the potential to see lots of content added without killing the experience (and computers!) of the players.

Honestly, there wasn't much difference from Sims 3. Liked the Orleans atmosphere, CAS molding feature, and easy build tools. Emotions are fun. HOWEVER, that does not mean the game is worth $60.00. I read the reviews the day after it came out and was on the fence. I bought it on Origin away just to try it out and have already sent in my request for a refund. I'll be more likely to buy it when the price drops dramatically and when EA releases an EPIC EP that fixes all the flaws the base game has.

There are only two available services that you can call up and that's: The maid and pizza delivery. In the past Sims games, you're able to call up even more than that. You can't place empty lots in the world anymore (This goes all the way back to The Sims 1 - I was fine at that time) and you only have a very limited amount of public venues to visit. You are required to load into other neighborhood homes even though they are within the same small open world little block.

In live mode, if you zoom out, you see several backdrops. Such as more houses, trains, trams and cars. These are actually only decor. There are only a select few houses in which you can visit and the rest are decorations. No one lives there, no one can live there and you can't visit.

The game is rushed, bare boned and watered down. It's highly disappointing and definitely not worth $80US. I would at least wait for sales or content to be patched through. If it takes EA to sell DLCs to add in more content (Which would be unsurprising), then it's best to invest elsewhere.

    Price: 0/10

I gave them graphic/sound 9/10 for their beautiful world, animations and almost perfect lighting and shading. But the sound are just ding-dong like kindergarten song. I still prefer instrumental classic theme of TS1 the most.

For game engine, it is now optimized for both PC and iOS. So, they have to sacrifice some large portion that become controversial so much. That is open world and story progression of other NPCs. It proved that it can run smoothly with high settings on almost all of the PC. But is it worth it since the town is now so small, silent and lack of life. I'm okay with loading screen since it doesn't take much time but at least create more venue for us to explore and play with, EA !!

Emotion and multitasking are the most excellent idea in this series, it make them more life-like. But why they have to delete other aesthetics aspects which is actually make the game looks "incomplete". User interface is now okay, they are just swap places for each icon, but nothing significantly changed. Build mode and Creat-a-sims are also improved but they also left some limitations e.g. not every part of the body can be adjusted, can't chose other style of MANY doors and windows. What the hell??

The content is now almost empty as the Sims Base Game always be. But this time it has been stripped to its bone. Toddlers, pools, many furniture, cars, etc. are now gone. My cars!!! No more Create-a-style. At least they can create color pallet with 100 shade for us to choose from. Just ask Microsoft Office developers!!

For price, it is easy. Not buy it, okay?

Personality and Aspirations got a huge cut/minimization in character creation.
Graphics on objects and structures got a HUGE cut. Grass and textures look BAD! Cut polygon count HARD!
    Everything has BLOOM!
Graphics in general have taken a dive. Everything is instanced and computers are faster, but it took a dive.

This ENTIRE game is based around character animation. It is the SINGLE and ONLY improvement over TheSims3. EVERYTHING else and I do mean EVERY SINGLE THING other than that has gotten a "cut" or "downgrade". It's obvious they're going to add TONS of DLC and micro-purchases. The question is, then, how much will one have to pay in total to get a game that is good as the vanilla TS3. What you purchase for this game will not make it "better", it will only bring it a small step closer to what you were playing BEFORE you spent AAA title money on THIS title.

Just like everything else Maxis has come out with in the last decade, it's a huge disappointment. I don't know what happened to my favorite childhood computer game brand, but it's not the Maxis I once knew. Not even close.

It's nearly impossible to kill a sim. No more happiness points based on moodlets, instead you have an useless buff called "emotion", that unlock useless interactions for "wishes" that barely grant any points. And that whole new design is just awfully confusing. I liked the old system a lot better the more moodlets the happier my sims, the better rewards, that's **** emotions for you... simple, powerful. No social worker. No cars. No urinals. Sims "pee like a champion" sitting down... No jobs location, no school location. Can't access sims to see their needs etc, when at work or at school (imaginary place). So weird tilting in the rewards section. An awfully obnoxious tutorial system that will pop a thousand times in your face.
No jobs. It's all text based and skill based.
Hair that look like kiddy paste. I don't see the point of doing Sims all over again they looked fine before. It's just so they can stick "Sims 4" on the box.
People claimed that demo of Create a Sim didn't have everything, it very much did... There is not any more clothing options in the real game. And no create a style, no create a world either...
Teens/YA/Adult/Elders look exactly the same that's why they only shown YA in the demo. They knew themselves. Stupid walks, who cares...
Small cities... and all these sims walking around your home, feels like the Truman show car scene with his wife "they are running in circle all day".
If you own Sims 3 and several expansions you are lucky because you don't need this crap! There is no reason whatsoever... Even build mode, so you have new commodities, cool, but with the old one you could achieve nearly the same, they just needed to patch it in not do an entire new game and call it "Sims 4".
I played this game 2 hours, and I don't feel the need whatsoever to come back to it. I might actually buy an expansion of Sims 3 but this, no way... And they spent years to make this? No way... 6 months top...

The Sims 4 has taken two steps forward, and ten steps backward with the changes that they've made. Create a Sim has become far more intuitive and allows for far more customisation than what we've seen before, and that's fantastic. If only we had this level of customisation in TS3, and everyone would be happy.

After you create a Sim and take the first look at the neighbourhood you quickly realise they've taken away one of the best parts of TS3, and that's the open neighbourhood. There are a negligible number of lots, and only *four* community lots, with loading times in between all of them! The biggest appeal of TS3 was the open world, and the ability to create far reaching stories with constant interaction without getting thumped by a loading screen constantly. Sure, at release there were performance issues, but most people have upgraded their PC's to a point where it's not an issue.

Overall, the improvements to this game are negligible, and considering the price point and dearth of content it just isn't worth your time or money.

There's no ghosts no good graves and no free movement within the towns community . like i said i love the Sims but in my opinion they have really screwed up this time, this game is a waste of money. There is nothing good of fun about this game anymore i think i will stick with playing Sims 3, even if it freezes some time its still a much more fun, interesting and engaging game than Sims 4. That being said, I appreciate the revamping of the sims, but their quickly needs to be followup to fill in the missing venues, objects, pools, etc. The world is small now, but it can grow a lot more than the Sims 3 worlds. In the sims 3 the world was limited to the single map. In the Sims 4 each expansion will be able to link to all the existing neighborhoods so you virtually have an unlimited size world. The Sims 3 was alway frustrating cause you ran out of lots so quickly. I'm giving it a 10 because even though its a basic base game, the change in direction has a huge amount of potential. You just keep finding so many things that make it new and more fun to play. Expand

Created an account after reading the negative reviews on here and actually having payed for The Sims 4 when I have torrented every single copy since day 1, not ashamed or scared to admit it. So I guess I feel like my investment deserves a critique where I hope it will be read.

There are a LOT of improvements on the core game as whole.
    Lets make a list:
Free roam is still intact, the fact I had to read a negative review complaining about this made my shake my head for it only proves that the haters always, ALWAYS will be the loudest and whiniest of all voices.
People still visit your lot and your neighbors lot in fact you can visit all of your neighbors and even a small garden park by your initial house without any loading screens or transitioning.
I can still jogg around the town and meet people as I do and enjoy the view.

I think the criticism of the no Free Roam is targeted at the fact not all lots are available without travel/load
this is true for the gym, library, bar and other higher classes areas but it does not take away ANYTHING from the game at all or the previous Sims in fact it makes it better.
HOW DOES IT MAKES BETTER YOU ASK? Well the loading times have been drastically lowered from previous titles thanks to this, it is almost seeming less loading times when you actually decide to travel outside of your hood. It increases game performance incredibly and due to this my frames have been consistent and not a single crash, have more then 14 hours logged already. The free roam from before was a complete waste of time and asked a lot more from your system resources then it should also it was very buggy/glitchy and not very smart at all since you rarely cared about how he got there but when he will get there, time is a factor in the sims, always.
Now the game loads not just the library but ALL of the entertainment/resources venues in a single go and you will experience a smotth transition from home to any other lot elsewhere. Mind you that your neighborhood still contains a multitude of other houses/families/park and constant pass byers in their jogs/walks for you to feel like you are part of the world as a whole which Is what I'm guessing was the criticism directed towards the lack of a before mentioned buggy/glitchy system, progress is good and some people just can't handle it. They my cry and say it takes away from the game but I beg to differ, it keeps it intact while making it more accessible to everyone around the world especially those with systems that are not built for gaming.

Multi-tasking: HUGE improvement, I can flirt/chat/geek out w.e you can think of as a chat option with anyone while at the same time working out, playing computer games, eating, drinking etc.
I can read a logic book while I watch tv. yay! I have yet to discover all the different opportunities multi tasking brings but so far i'm very impressed and I am liking it a lot.

Did they mention the fact you can be a stand up comic, write your own routines and perform them live? You used to have to pay for that.

Or that I can have sex while I stargaze in the observatory and build my own freaking space ship in my backyard?

Or that that the building of rooms and expanding my house no longer takes a huge amount of time/investment and frustrating interface? They have already made rooms from you ranging from different tiers and I love selecting them or making my own which thanks to the new UI has made it a lot smoother.

Did they mention how the new mood-lets gives your sims a ton of new personality? Flirty, tense, sad, confident, embarrassed etc. all come with their quirks and perks that boost your current actions and give new actions from interactions with other sims to items around the world, makes it exciting really.

Did I mention the fact that the game has ZERO CRASHES and NO LAG AT MAX SETTINGS? :O:O:O
IF you really ARE a true sims fan you will know how big of a deal this is, even with 3 gig video card and 6 cores it was only a matter of time before the Sims 3 or 2 crashed, especially when designing a huge home.

The customization of the sims has improved VASTLY. Just two things that I feel must be said, you can take complete control of the size of a woman's waist, breast size and location of said breast entirely. The same applies to the Ass, nothing else must be said, thank you EA.
My wife is a bodybuilder with RIPPED abs and Legs, seriously the new graphics make her look better then any fitness model, also thanks to the fact I made her ass/boobs ridiculously large while her stomach is slim/ripped

Very disappointing about the quality of this game. Having to run around when installing, why do I need origin? I just want to play! Origin not working at first, and the support forum gave no help. Had to do research myself to get the game working.

Overall this is a slight graphics update with much less to do then the previous Sims, and at this asking price, I expected a more full game.

After a year and a half of waiting, I was sorely disappointed with this latest Sims game. An avid Simmer since age ten (now age 23), I found this to be my least favorite of all three. The lack of a toddler life stage, takes away an important aspect of the game. While I did enjoy the sliders in Create-A-Sim, the lack of control over colors, (ie: the Create-A-Design tool) is missing. I can no longer make my Sims have unconventional hair colors or strange eye colors.

I am somewhat of an Build-A-Mode buff, but this one is terrible. While some of the features and pieces are arranged more thoughtfully and logically, several features are noticeably missing, again with Create-A- Design. There is virtually no room for artistic license. Also, there are no pools and there is no auto roof >.< There is a glitch with the foundation in which I had to build random rooms where I had to then delete walls to get the foundation to form correctly so I could build a deck. And the fact that there is no dishwashers is a minor annoyance.

The worst part of all has to be the neighborhoods. Unlike the Sims 3, which opened up free play, we are limited to a smattering of buildings. There are a total of four community buildings in one area of the world. The Sims 3 had a plethora of buildings and lots to explore without having to bounce to the loading scene. There was a free range of movement where you could have one Sim go to the movies and another sit home and take care of the house and still keep track of another searching for collectables. This feature is not possible in this game which is a major issue with me.

The game itself is rather boring to play, there is not much substance. While the characters are more believable, I could not help but find them mundane. There is very little range of freedom. The needs tend to turn red just under a half which puts the whole Sim in a tumultuous emotional state, granted the click to take care of needs option is certainly convenient. Also, I have notice that the buy mode items are much more expensive than in previous games. 12000 simolions for a refrigerator, I mean come on. Even in the real world a refrigerator would never cost that, except maybe an industrial one.

The one good thing I can say about this latest debacle, is that the graphics are 100 times better than the other games. Loading times are also much faster than ever before.

Even though the graphics are awesome, I cannot overcome the serious downfalls of this newest Sims game. I think I will retire my Sims 4 until major improvements can be made, if possible, and stick with the Sims 3, even if it means more glitches, worse graphics and longer loading times. The Sims 3, and even the Sims 2, are far better games than this one as it stands and I will return dutifully to them and hope that the SimGurus are watching and know this: this game needs a major revamp and judging by the reviews coming in, I am not alone.

As someone who played the original Sims when it came out, I am a big fan of the franchise. I didn't expect Sims 4 to offer everything Sims 3 did (how would it, Sims 3 was massive), but for every "oh wow" moment I had an "oh no" moment follow. The emotion system is very intriguing and the sims feel much more...alive. However, the downside is a huge step backward in flexibility. You can't edit colors, you don't call a babysitter, the baby just "disappears" and goes to daycare until an adult arrives home. Worst of all, you are confined to small areas of the town and not only have to go through a loading screen to visit, for example, the "rich" part of town or the part of town that has shops, you have to go through a loading screen to visit your next door neighbor!

I do love the multitasking aspect that has been brought into the game. Sims are much more social and do lots of little thing that make them feel more interesting to watch. The addition of a pregnancy test, the stand up comedian career track, and the much nicer interface are definite pluses.

Final assessment? The developers had a target in mind and I think they achieved it with the emotions and multitasking; however, they completely missed the boat on the "community" feel that the Sims 3 had from launch. Customization is what made the sims unique and that seems to be gone (hopefully not for good). In general,

The build mode is the only thing so far that has improved from The Sims 3, you can add entire rooms or easily expand your foundation/walls after building your house.

The 1 score is for the building mode, i did try hard to find anything else worth adding after hours in-game.

I was reading all these overwhelmingly horrible reviews when my game was downloading and was wondering whether that many reviewers could actually just be whining or that the game was really going to be that bad. The answer is that its not that bad, I've enjoyed it so far as much as I've enjoyed any of the previous Sims.

The lack of the open world, the loading screens, no toddlers, etc.

The lack of the open world, the loading screens, no toddlers, etc. these are all legitimate criticisms that I've had myself. But I have to say the loading screen situation is bearable, not the way I would have wanted it, but it works.

In the Sims 3 when you went somewhere in your car or got picked up it was like the time in the car was a loading screen anyway. Its not like you could drive your car around. The disappointment for me is that they didn't go in the direction of improving the open world concept when the could have with Sims 4 and instead went back to the loading screens.

Everything else seems improved to me with the exception of create a style being gone. I wonder who's bright idea that was? But can still generally get things to look good, they have a variety of built it color combinations for building and clothes.

I don't buy any of the expansions and comparing the Sims 4 to the Sims 3 base game it seems to have a similar amount of content with improved graphics and a lot of new interactions.

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
