This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the Sims 4 and 3 but I think they made the sims4 a bit simple when you are buying items, you cant create your own design and well it can get boring, the cities are too small and really the lots are usually only 20x30 at the most I only found one lot that had 40x50 I like big homes and I would like to see the school or a beach and some tall buildings, but no they made it a simple town with nothing in it, the towns also need more houses. if you put the cities from the sims3 in the sims4 game it would be better. the people are great you can make them better but the clothes and the traits really make me mad. so make the towns bigger and better and give more traits and clothes for them and they are good to go. :) Expand

Revised rating as they added some nice features in the patches. Still, the game is not nearly as immersive as the previous ones. But not a 0 any more, it's OK.

Don't buy this piece of crap and wait for the reviews of ALL AAA titles before you buy them if you buy them as they are just producing milk money and donkey milking games and not worth the price of an out house.

Don't trust any review that rates this game over a 5. This game, and the reboot of Sim City represent the dying days of EA and Maxis. I didn't think it was possible for the old EA games to be better than the new releases, but that is the case. EA did very little to update the Sims. The newest Sim City is a trainwreck, with very small towns that have less area than the original sim city.

I fail to see how this is in any way a step up from the previous sims? If anything it's almost a step-down. There's nothing to do, there's no restaurants or shopping areas? This is so basic and boring. And if I even want to go anywhere I have to wait 5 minutes at a loading screen! I wish I would have just bought sims 3 again and all the expansion packs for the the same price I paid for this.

A poor game compared to its predecessors. Even with updates, missing a lot of base game features found in 2 and 3.

You'll find many little annoyances, such as everyone being exactly the same height, and lots of big ones, such as no more open world and families dying out through no Story Progression.

    Overall a huge step back.

No this isn't sims 3. This is the sims 4. Although they took away a lot of the features that the previous entry had, it's still a fun and enjoyable game. And with EA and Maxis patching the game, and eventually add expansion packs, it'll be even better! If you don't like it, just don't play it, it's that simple!

Sims 4 is a good game, it's just like any other sims game though and that's because there hasn't been many features added to it as of yet. But it is still a good game, I especially like create a sim as you can customise your sims much more, I also like the gameplay a lot more as there are more/different interactions that you can do.

Let's start with the good points. Create a sim has been improved compared to the previous games. The tools and mechanics are different and you can now really go into detail and change everything. There's a wide range of different clothing and hair styles too which is pretty neat. The gameplay is solid and the graphics are sharp and pretty, even though they are more cartoon like however I prefer this. I also like the community/online features because you can share buildings and sims with other simmers from around the world. I also like how EA are adding conent and features for free with each update.

However there is a big list of negatives as well. The loading screens are annoying, in Sims 3 there was an open town but now when travelling to places you are faced with a lengthy loading screen. They ned to sort out the marriage feature as well. The woman's name does not change when she gets married and some things with the relationships are annoying too. They also got rid of create a style which is annoying, especially when creating a sim because i'd always use it to change the eye colour or hair colour. There are no toddlers which further annoys me. You can age a sim up from a baby straight to a child which means it's missing a stage and no doubt EA will bring this out in a paid expansion!

It is certainly an interesting game and can get you hooked for a while but I would not call it an improvement over the previous installments in the series.

Interest Level: 7/10 - The game is interesting and can be a lot of fun but is not exceptional
Sounds: 7/10 - The sounds are basic but that is no problem
Gameplay: 6/10 - With all Sims games the gameplay is never outstanding and this new game proves that
Graphics: 8/10 - I really like the sharp cartoony style to the game
Physics: 6/10 - You cannot really rate this game on physics so it can have a six!

Final Score: 68 - Not really an improvement on the previous ones but is still a solid game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has positives and negatives, the positives being multi-tasking & the emotion stimulator & in my opinion I really do like the graphics Also, a lot more Food options!. However, its definitely not worth the price! This game is probably worse than Sims 2 (which was actually really good & the transition between 2 & 3 was outstanding by EA).
    The Negatives:
    - Create-a-sim , its completely pathetic the Sims don't look like real-life people. the hair is all clumpy & the bodies are very unrealistic, there is no height difference between teenagers, young-adults, adults or elders.
    - The traits are also very basic & boring.
    - There are no Toddlers?! and the Baby literally can't do anything and can barely be interacted with by other Sims.

    - NO OPEN WORLD! its just a bunch of loading screens after loading screens, can't see the Sims school, work & if you want to go anywhere... ALL is just loading screens.
    - There is also no Create Tool, you cannot personalize your Sims houses as much as compared to Sims 3...
    - LAME! No cars, & the neighbourhood is sectioned.
    - RANDOM SIMS WILL CONSTANTLY JOIN YOU CONVERSATION AND CUT OFF OTHER INTERACTIONS WITH SIMS YOU WANT TO TALK TOO!
    - NO STORY PROGRESSION

This game is okay. I mean, yes the new features in build mode and create a sim are highly helpful, but it's extremely lacking. No basements? A 3-floor limit? NO OPEN WORLDS!?!?!? No toddlers? Limited interaction with babies? No create-a-style? This game was very rushed and definitely needs some major improvements if the creators want the series to live on.

In sims 3 you could roam the entire world freely. Go places, knock on other people's doors, and go to community events posted in the news papers, take classes etc. Sims 4 has none of that. I liked Sims 3 because you were always meeting new people randomly as you went through the worlds and it was never hard to socialize or make friends. Sims 4 it is hard to socialize and much time is wasted trying to do so. Sims 4 world is small with like three places to go and little room to build your own community lots. When you want to go somewhere, its like Sims 1 all over again, going to the load screen and then picking a place you can't do anything in. In Sims 3 when you had a child the child turned out depending on how you treat it as a baby and toddler. In Sims 4 the baby can be aged up as soon as you have it no toddlers. I will say that in Sims 3 the baby and toddler seem longed, by they could have just shortened it as oppose to getting ride of it all together. Even if they come out with really good expansion packs I do not see how this game can be saved. They should have started from Sims 3 and went up from there. I am not even sure if this is better than Sims 2. The interactions are better, I guess and that is about it. But you are confined to your house, I did not see any cars you can buy. And if you want to go to somewhere else then you have to wait until the games loads. I am sorry, but I fail to see the improvements from Sims 3. I mean the graphic are better and you can make a more detailed sim, but I rather have better game play that those things. What a waste. Expand

The Positives: Multi-tasking is so helpful
    Runs better on computers
    Build/Buy aren't separate
    And that's about it....

The Neutrals: Create a Sim is vastly improved but due to the lack of create a style it wasn't as intuitive as the Sims 3.
Build/Buy: I'll admit the moving a room around never interested me mostly because i know where a room is going to go when i build it. Sadly due to lack of Create a Style possibilities are limited.

The NEGATIVES (there's a lot of them):
    Create A Style is GONE!
Emotions don't do much (I prefer the mood meter)
Too many unlock-able items( I just want to buy a nice TV but nooope!)
    Very Small Town(s)
    No toddlers
    Warp Work is back
No Open World (probably the biggest asset of the sims 3)
Lack of clothing options (mainly due to no Create a Style)
Making friends seems to take very long compared to the sims 3
LOADING SCREENS EVERYWHERE (Short but very annoying)
The graphics would look good... if I were playing on a mobile device

Overall I think The Sims 4 is a massive step backward compared to the Sims 3. I do understand the Sims 3 was a bit rough on the computer, but that's no excuse to cut out so much content. Never have I felt that I needed custom content in a Sims game, but here I do. EA is ruining The Sims name just like they ruined many others like Burnout and Need For Speed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. Go buy Sims 3 and 2 expansion packs instead. At least that's worth the cost

As opposed to gameplay, this game has taken a definate setback. They slightly improved the graphics (yay I guess?) while removing access to the entire game without loading screens. This really ticked me off. The idea of bringing out a new game to a franchise isn't to just slap an extra number on there and to strip most of it's features. You're supposed to have a HOOK! Something newthat people can grab on to to make ther game new and exciting. This game did not supply that. I felt like I was playing The Sims 3 with a lot of removed features. EA deserves no support for crap like Sims 4 from anybody.) and rage quit/uninstalled after about 20 minutes, if it was even that long. Creating a sim was OK, but then the actual game started and by Helm it is bad!
All I can say is that people who prepurchased this turkey are the real problem, not EA. They are the ones keeping companies like this alive and still able to prey on the consumer. If everyone would do what I do EA would either go out of business (Good riddance btw) or it would have to change its ways and offer quality and value for money when people buy their games. And no, not 400$ worth of heroin pump DLC releases, 12 expansions and 1500 patches later, but the base game you buy in the box. If that isn`t good you should go out of business. And Sims 4 is about as bad as it gets.

PS: I love how the corrupt game reviewers (Who are undoubtedly getting bribes from EA.) are scoring this calamity of a game in the 70s while the actual customers are below 4 across the board. It actually deserves the big, fat zero I am just now going to give it.

The most controversial game in the series. I can see why, but does it deserve a user score of 3.7?

There is a heavy emphasis on emotions and The Sims has always been about keeping your Sims happy and well taken care of, and the new focus has made the game a lot more interesting.
The build mode has been improved, you can now easily resize walls and you can even pick up entire rooms! There are plenty of customization options to choose from as well

    Cons:
The new Create a Sim mode has some interesting aspects, for example, dragging and dropping certain features to alter them, but you can only choose 3 main traits, there are less customization options, Create a Style is gone and you can no longer create toddlers (How much of a big deal is that to anyone anyway?)
The open world aspect from The Sims 3 is gone. Now it is a bland and generic world map, with the inability to create new lots, you only get 3 empty ones and a few houses to choose from. If you want to travel a lot, instead of driving or running there, you have to sit through a loading screen, EVEN IF YOU WANT TO GO ACROSS THE F*****G STREET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall, I had a lot of fun with The Sims 4 and many things have been improved, but all of the innovations made in The Sims 3 have been ignored and it feels like a greatly improved version of The Sims 2.

    - First of all, The Sims is a simulation game, where graphics fall on inferior stages. Where the Sims 4 managed to bright is the realism, which is a better than the Sims 3, consisting in better interactions, better looking sims, improved AI and lot better game mechanics.

    - Secondly, even it lacks in content, it still brings a solid and comprehesive style of gameplay, which makes it a truly addiction.

    - Then, EA confirmed that The Sims 4 will have a lot more EPs than The Sims 3 had, and we can see that in less than half a year, the team put back the pools, cut some glitches and brought 2 ( 1 upcoming ) expansions.

    - I know the accustomed players with this series, like me are missing the common features like toddlers, open world and other items, but the team is working to make them possible by this year.

For me, I mean, I understand that these things had to be pushed back to make space for other new stuff that will make the game a great universe of addiction, when all EPs are coming back.

I say, let's give it a chance, stick with the Sims 3, until the game is complete and then compare it. It;s worth it, it gets better!

But it's so damn good and entertaining!
It starts with caracter creation - superb! You can create anything brom fat melon-like ameba to triangular lean beefcake. The clothing options aren't THAT great but they're satisfying.
Interaction between characters has been taken to the next level. Multitasking works really good. You can play a game, listen to the music and talk to a friend at the same time. Only this makes this game brilliant.
Loading screens everywhere? Ok, I've got SSD drive and loading takes about 5 seconds. Not a big deal. This isn't Skyrim with open world. Sims 3 wasn't super attractive just because of that.
The improved careen system works very good.
I would recommend two mods for this game - slower timescale and superfast speed. Works as should be.
I've been lost for two solid days now. I highly recommend this game even though I myself see EA as evil money grabbing gits. The price, potential costly DLCs and no-Steam policy is at least -2 to the final score.

This review deals with my building experience, rather than with the gameplay - hopefully this will help other builders who are thinking of buying the game.

As an avid Sims fan with my own dedicated website, I was very eager to receive a copy of the Sims 4. I'm mainly a builder and was looking forward to being able to create stunning homes using what I hoped would be, some brand, new tools to work with. How disappointed I was!

Firstly, the foundations - If you want a foundation on your house, it applies to the entire lot, whether the parts are joined to the house or not. I sometimes like to build a fake garage or a little garden shed, but now I can't as they all end up with the same foundation as the house! Also, you can't make the foundation match the walls any more, you just have to pick from the feeble choices of foundation patterns they provide. It's also very difficult to join fences to the foundations - you have to build walls where you want the fences to be and then apply a fence to the walls.

Secondly, you can't delete floor tiles, just entire floors. I like to make my landing areas inside the house interesting and for that I need to be able to take away parts of the floor. Not any more I can't! They say there are ways around this, but they all make weird things happen when you try them. Sometimes the roof comes down into the house etc. There is a sledgehammer tool, so you can build a mini room where you want to delete the floor, then you use the sledgehammer to smash the floor and delete the tiles, but as soon as you delete the walls, the floor comes back! I have searched for hours for a solution/workaround for this, but just come across many people having the same issue with no way around it. However, you can make the foundations different heights, which is a definite improvement.

Thirdly, there is NO pattern tool! You receive a paltry amount of content that you can't do anything with, so everyone's houses all end up looking the same. One of the things I loved about the Sims 3 was how highly configurable everything was, even the Sims themselves. This, IMHO, is a definite step back for the game.

There are 2 carpets, both the same colour, with little pattern difference. Unless you want to download tons and tons of custom content, your Sims houses are going to be very boring affairs. I can't even select different bedding for your beds, you just have to be happy with the bed sets they provide.

I'm not sure if this is something I haven't figured out yet, but if I want 3 or more sets of stairs next to each other and I want to have railings at the side, I can't - the railings appear between each set and I can't just add them to each end.

Annoyingly, the moveobjects on cheat doesn't work in this game. That means I can't move objects where I want any more. :(

There are one or two improvements that I like - one is that you can move your entire house if you need to, and now your roofs can all have different patterns.

There were several more things that I wasn't happy with, but these are the main bugbears. For game sequels, you need to add features, not take them away! I'm just happy they listened to people and brought back the pools after doing away with these, too, initially!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm an experienced Sims player. I've invested quite a bit of money into the entire franchise (including a monthly subscription fee for The Sims Online.) I thought I might cover some of the aspects that some of the other reviews didn't cover.

I was able to test this game for 48 hours through Origin, so I tried to encompass as much of the gameplay as I could.

I think the graphics were actually pretty nice. The game seemed a little smoother, and the load times were a lot shorter. However, there are a lot of load times, and the division of the town into sections takes away from the continuity all together. It doesn't feel like a town at all. There's no grocery, spa, any of the buildings where your sim might have a career, and with a maximum of 12 or so houses, it feels more like a pre-made art farm. I had one sim wife go out on the town, she danced some, got hungry, and had to go home because I couldn't find anywhere for her to eat.

Everyone likes the customization in CAS and build mode. I enjoyed CAS, but I felt like it was all a little flat. The hairstlyes were awful, most of the clothing was the same style with alternate colors and patterns.
The sims seem to have more character, animation wise, while having less character because of the limited options of aspirations and traits. One of my sims enjoyed the outdoors, and aspired to be a botanist or gardener or something, So I built a garden outside. I'm used to gardening being a hassle from the Sims 3. It makes you sweaty and tired. But for my sim, it was completely unenjoyable. That doesn't make any sense. She aspires to be a master gardener, and she loves the outdoors. Gardening should be fun for her.

I really wanted a grocery. Paying out of pocket everytime you open the refrigerator is ridiculous, and completely unrealistic.

Hosting house parties is ridiculous. I don't see how one sim hosting a house party with two guests and a horrible time limit could ever achieve all the "requirements" for a great party. At least it could've been tailor made for the amount of sims at the party. My female sim has a girl friend and a guy friend over, and she has to flirt 5 times? Serve 3 drinks? Play an instrument for an hour? By the time she was done making them all drinks and multitasking with chitchat the entire time, the party was over and everyone left. Also, I wanted to avoid playing the instrument because she's not very good and would feel all embarassed when someone heard her. (Audible sigh.)

Another hint: uncomfortable. Your sims get uncomfortable all the time. 70% of your sims life is spent being uncomfortable. 20% is feeling tense. Having to get your sims to feel a certain way for them to succeed at work or school is taxing. Having to get my culinary career sim to make 4 drinks and/or meals every day before work is silly, and a waste of money.

There's also a moat the runs around your entire neighborhood behind all of the houses. That's where you fish! You're not lucky to have a house so close to the river. That's just a thing. If you don't live in the desert, it looks kind of like a concrete water ditch with a wall running around it. It really took away from my pseudo-Victorian style house.

Overall, I can appreciate the effort. I get what they were trying to do, but they just didn't execute it as well as they could have. I've read a lot of people mentioning how the sims 3 was terrible without the EPs, but that just isn't true. The base game should be a full representation of the game and how it plays, and extras are extras. I'll keep playing The Sims 3 until I get bored with it.

With the graphics they've gone from half-realistic to compleatly cartoony along with muddy textures and low-poly models. There is almost no customization whatsoever just preset colors and patterns, several steps down from sims 3.
And yes, multitasking... Technically it sounds great but practically it just falls flat and is annoying.
When I want someone in a hurry to eat mac n cheese I don't want them to cease doing that to talk to someone across the table and then continue.
The sims AI has apparently become dumber too, often I find sims standing looking into a wall wondering what to do.
And the emotions? So far they only seem slightly annoying and only created to make the game look somewhat deeper then it really is.

Just about the only upgrade from previous games is the sim creater (if you ignore no color/pattern customization and terrible looking, low selection of hair.) you'll be able to create characters in far better detail then before.
Did I mentione I played the sims for apple products too? The sims 4 feels pretty much like that, scaled down and simplified.

So my advise? If you really must have this game, buy it once it's like 50-75% sale or better yet, just get the "create a sim" demo and play that, at the moment that's as fun this game is getting.

Overall, I find the Sims 4 to be stunningly underrated - and for bizarre reasons.

Although many aspects of gameplay have been removed from previous generations (such as Create-A-Style and open worlds), there are clear reasons for these removals, the most obvious being the Create-A-Style removal, due to the extreme lag experienced by many players during almost all Sims 3 gameplay.

Moreover, the multitude of design options available in Create-A-Sim allow for a large variety of options. The loading screens, while present while changing neighbourhoods, are quite short and a small price to pay for nearly-lag-free gameplay.

One important improvement for the series made by this game is that of family connection. In previous games, families living in the same household required player-directed interaction in order to build relationships, however the Sims 4 allows friendships to be made through simple daily activities like eating a meal together.

My biggest complaint about this game is its ease. Most aspirations are unrealistically easy to complete and many can be accomplished within the course of a week in-game, any student can achieve a grade of A within four in-game days, without a great deal of focused activity on the part of the player.

To me, the Sims 4 seems about 5 % better than the Sims 3 but 95% worse.
The top two things in this list are what killed the game for me. These things made me stop playing and is why I have no plans to get any Sims 4 EPs.
    1. No open world. Compared to the Sims 3, the Sims 4 closed world to me means no spontaneity, an overall claustrophobic feel/atmosphere, gameplay lacking fun, no sense

The top two things in this list are what killed the game for me. These things made me stop playing and is why I have no plans to get any Sims 4 EPs.
    1. No open world. Compared to the Sims 3, the Sims 4 closed world to me means no spontaneity, an overall claustrophobic feel/atmosphere, gameplay lacking fun, no sense of adventure, no control. Also, the Sims 4 boasts about multitasking, but the Sims 3 open world provided better multitasking for me as a player. For instance, I could send my sims out on different outings simultaneously. I would multi-task what my sims did, juggling all their activities at once, switching between them. It was challenging and very fun and satisfying. I would separate them, then bring them back together, all at different times. Very spontaneous. Compare this to the Sims 4 multitasking, of eating on the toilet or playing games on their phone while drinking juice. Yes, this is multitasking, but throwing away the open world and all the options that came with it was a horrible trade off. For instance, if one of your Sims wants to suddenly go fishing in the Sims 4, your other sims stop existing, unless they go with. Boring. In the end, I mostly stopped having my Sims 4 sims leave the house because I became so sick of not being to play all of them at once. Not really a life simulator but just playing a group of people in their homes. More of a personality simulator. This brings me to my next biggest problem with the Sims 4.

    2. No toddlers. For a game so centered on home life why would they not just remove an entire age group so central to family life but limit several other age groups as well? Personally, I enjoy playing families the most in the Sims 3 and toddlers are an essential part of that. Aside from that, infants are very limited. No ability to see their needs, and you can’t even carry them anywhere or click on their portraits. Teens look the same as adults. Same heights. Same bodies.

    3. No customization or color wheel. It’s like a phone company saying, 'designing mobile phones is just too hard for us. So sorry, were going to stop making them. You have to use traditional wall mounted phones from now on like what was around decades ago.'

    4. Socializing is boring. They “chat” for hours on end, no break in conversation, just rambling endlessly. It makes what they say have no real meaning and I can’t, as a player, empathize with them. I ended up trying to play antisocial sims just so they would stop rambling on and on, but it didn’t work. Which leads to the next problem.

    5. Stalker friends who visit 3 times a day. If it wasn’t bad enough that my sims were stuck at home most of the time, they couldn’t actually do anything at home or get anything done because “my pal” is back for the third visit today. Yes, lets spend another 5 hours with our friend just chatting non-stop about absolutely nothing. Maybe we can try to eat before bed, if we're lucky.

    6. The animation is a step back, not forward. It’s one thing to have the animations be stylized and unique (not overly realistic) but it’s another to have it drawn badly, with objects angular and jagged and overly cartoonish. The Sims 3 didn’t have perfect graphics, but it was better than this. And for a game that boasted about the “great new create a sim tools” I found it very hard to get my sims to look different from each other.

    7. You have to login to the EA site to play.

    8. No cars.

    9. No diners to eat out in. I send my sims out to eat all the time in the Sims 3. I missed that in the Sims 4.

    10. My sims 4 sims look like corpses. They look like they have some kind of horrible skin disease. The pale skin tones are the worst, which are actually blotchy and from some angles look bruised. Also, the one or two blond hair colors available (yes, that’s all you get to choose from) look awful, like some kind of cheap bleached dye job. In the Sims 3 I enjoy playing all different hair and skin colors. I really enjoy customizing different hair, skin and eye colors. It’s so much fun. And I’ve never had a problem with the quality of any of them. So different.

    11. Very small towns.

    12. Sims only get 3 traits. This means that children have 1 trait.

    13. No story progression.

The things that I think are improved in the Sims 4 (over the Sims 3):
    1. The new mood types are interesting and can be entertaining. They are more in depth and complex than the Sims 3 moods. For instance, the new sad, flirty, playful moods, etc.

    2. Build mode is improved. For instance, you can move an entire room at once, with all the objects in it.

    3. Colors of certain objects like plants, furniture, clothing and water are better in the Sims 4. They are prettier and more vibrant.

    4. The game runs smoother in the Sims 4 and has less lag than the Sims 3.

Overall, I think the Sims 4 is actually EA’s attempt to just recreate the Sims 2. IMO even the Sims 2 is better than Sims 4.

It's almost like they went backwards and made this game simply for noobs. For a game that's been around for quite sometime and have generated a huge fan base. I would imagine that the game producers would at least come up with something that will wow and impress it's fans but nope. Only disappointment and waste of money. Stick to Sims 3. Expand

I was so excited to hear that a new Sims game was coming out. EA has done so well in the past that I thought it would be great. I was wrong. There were so many things that the Sims 3 had that 4 doesn't and I'm very disappointed. You can't design clothes in Create-a-Sim anymore and the graphics aren't that good even when you change the settings. The Sims 4 isn't the best but still holds potential in ways but still is missing features that I loved in the Sims 3 with it's expansion packs like: How you could send your Sims to the park can would get in his or her car and drive over there and you wouldn't have to wait for a loading screen, oh no you could switch between Sims even though they were in totally different areas. The customization on the game is over the top. There are a lot of options to customise your house. However, that is everything that is new. I see no need for you to buy the game if you have the other ones. But it is, indeed, a pleasant experience if you don't have them, like me, who played around 3 hours of the Sims 3 before game breaking bug happened.

The game promises a lot but it turns out to be boring, empty, buggy and lacks the fun and enjoyment that one would expect from a Sims game.
The Sims 4 feels like playing some facebook free game and that might work for someone who's new to the sims franchise, but for the players who are used to the large amount of content of the previous sims games this is just disappointing.

The Sims 2 and Sims 3 base games have a lot more to offer and not even mentioning The Sims 1 that for the time when it came out was an amazing, mind blowing game.
As far as now I can't truly recommend the game, it might get better as time goes by but as far as now It just doesn't worth what it costs.

Even more disappointing than the new SimCity. It's like they rebuilt the game for a $3 phone app and ported it to PC for $60. I shudder at the thought of EA scheming to charge us for a dishwasher as DLC.

Really, Im a fan of The SIms series. Ive been playing it for YEARS (1,2 & 3, all EPs) but THIS one has got to be the worst by far. for clarity's sake Ill make a list of why it deserves a round "0". This trash needs a warning people, and Ill consider this to be it. Use it or dont, up to you.

    1) the graphics are shockingly bad. Like a child's colouring in book. Its painful to look at.

    1) the graphics are shockingly bad. Like a child's colouring in book. Its painful to look at.
    2) excessive unnecessary loading screens. Seriously.. they put loading screens everywhere. This is so much worse than TS3 - loading screens are needed, perhaps, but they made it game breaking.
    3) no customization. Everything looks exactly the same. Like cheap plastic toys. Even the sims themselves. You get more customization from a lego set.
    4) exceptionally un-user friendly... just TRY and have two people play the game on one pc. wont even get into that dramabomb. ALso.. how to create new families while youre playing? Nope. you have to quit to the main menu.
    5) a crapton of bugs.. or maybe intended 'features'...like the fact that there is no option to add tattoos once a sim has been created already...or no change of last names when married. (both have to be done with a pretty severe cheat, which destroys family ties)
    6) sims exist as clones of exactly the same mold. They act the same, they all look the same, with slight tweaks here and there.

I can go on and on. really i can. But I wont. The sad thing is that I really really wanted to like this game. I even defended it.. give it time.. see if it grows on you.. and it does.. like a fungus. every day is just a trawl through CC sites looking for replacement textures and gameplay mods to actually make it playable.

The fun has well and truly been sucked out of the series.. this is a withered husk of its past glory.
Maybe Ill give it another go in a year or two.. but until then, ill stick to TS3.

SERIOUSLY... when DRAGON AGE INQs character creator kicks your life simulation;s ass in SO MANY WAYS.. its time to pull the plug. How can a game of THAT size and amazing splendor run so perfectly and look so amazing, but you cant get your game thats around 1/3 of its size (on disk space) run a second without a few loading screens all while it looks like plastic children's toys?

utter nonsense. move on for your own sanity and wallet. Rather go play TS 2 or 3. Its cheaper .. and a lot better,

They must have made it with 2 year-olds in mind, because the game play, cartoon graphics, ridiculous Duplo style furniture and embarrassing amount of loading screens are just insulting. They shouldn't call it a life simulator, because it's not. It seems rushed, cheap, and it is full of software bugs. Technically it must have been programmed by apprentices. Saved games get lost, broken and bloated, so that the appalling amount of loading screens take longer and longer the more you play. Seriously, it's no more than a mobile app at best, not worth more than 1.99$. And it's dreadfully boring. Once you realize how limited it is, and how useless the NPCs are, and how flawed and game driven the emotional system is (forcing you to complete tasks all the time just to control your Sim's emotions) there is nothing fun about it. It has been stripped down to the bone. EA takes pride in having released 7 patches already. That is how broken and buggy and unplayable this game was on release, nothing to be proud of, however they seem to think it's very amusing. The people who are still playing have modified it to the point it hardly resembles what EA made at all.
I can safely say this is the worst game I have ever played in my life, despite being a hardcore Sims player since 2000 and owning every single title and EP of the Sims franchise. At first I hoped an eventual Sims 5 would repair the damage it's left in it's wake, but I'm afraid it's so bad I'll never trust EA again. After SimCity and Sims 4, I believe the company just doesn't have what it takes to make games. Even if they did make a Sims 5, their vision would probably ruin that too, because they just don't know what they're doing. This game is a disaster and a rip off.

    Cons

Blatantly no content here screams EXPANSION PACKS while flailing Sim Guru X liked XXX

Game does not live up to the tag line "Smarter Sims Weirder Story's" the sims themselves are pretty dumb they will do what you tell them to forever without considering basic needs such as hunger, Freewill is pretty much dead if you tell them to do something.

The game is buggy as F*** Sims will not wash up they will just hold the plates until these "Smarter Sims"
just put them on the floor and i have run into 3 corrupt save files in my 10 hours playtime.

Tutorials is F****** annoying they come up in the most annoying spots either hiding something you want to click or just fail to explain what the hell to do.

    Verdict

Game is a real disappointment i have loved the sims my entire life and to see it just be a cash grab for EA just saddens me. We should go back to the good old days of The Sims 2.

I've played over 200 hours and just had to give up because I don't like rotational gameplay. In case you don't know, there is now no story progression. There is only 1 active lot at a time, all other lots are inactive. The lack of customization (no color wheel, no CASt - create a style from Sims 3) really frustrates me as I like to build houses. There is only one style of interior door that is not white! All other interior doors are white (well sort of, it's kind of a grayish white). The hair styles are limited with only a limited range of color options. So if you enjoy rotational gameplay and don't care about generational type play you'll probably enjoy TS4.

The positives: the new emotions system (not that big of a deal) and the multitasking (which is the only shining part of TS4 to me). Your Sim can eat while watching TV and having a conversation with their friends or family members. Also, when you can bear to go through the loading screen to a community lot, you will see many Sims who are actively interacting with each other which is a big improvement over TS3.

Supposedly the reason that EA has given for dropping the open world and going back to the single active lot was to have a more stable game that would run smoothly on lower end computers. Which might be acceptable if it worked that way but unfortunately it doesn't. There are bugs and glitches galore. More disturbing are the core problems that will always be with TS4 like Sims walking through each other. I'm not kidding, they walk completely through another Sim. There is also a lot of clipping like hands passing through another Sim or a desk or counter. Just go to the official Sims forums and check out the posts in the technical discussions section and you'll see what kind of issues people are having. My game on a $1600 custom build desktop that exceeds specs for the game crashes to the desktop every few hours of gameplay. The price has dropped and if you look around you can buy it online cheaper than in the stores (I paid $43 for a Limited Edition version the week after it came out). Or if you're not certain about it, buy it through Origin early on a day that you can spend hours playing it and return it in less than 24 hours and get your money back if you don't like it. If you like the open world of TS3 and the customization of TS3 and if you don't like rotational gameplay, stay far, far away from this game as you'll end up like me just removing it from your hard drive and forgetting about it.

I sold the game on ebay, I spent about $10 in fees selling and shipping it, but was relieved to make about $30- only half of what I paid for the game. Then complaints from my seller started coming through. They said that their activation code was invalid. It was the activation code sold with the game, so I didn't understand the problem. I sent them a few links to EA customer service and figured I could put this to rest. But then they demanded a refund, so I had to look into the issue myself. And guess what I find out! You can't even resell the game you hate! The game is tied to an Origin account, and can only be used by that Origin account from that point on! That's great news! Just terrific. Now I have to pay to have then ship the game back to me, and offer them a refund. This company has disgusting ethics.

Limited scope in create a Sim, though the models do look better.

It has a load less features than the basic Sims 3, and after the expansions of Sims 3, its more like a demo.

Added a few nice features, but not enough to balance the many its taken out. Shambles of a game. Don't buy it until at least two expansions are out and it might have improved.

Oh, and Gameplay wise, it is very dull indeed to play at the moment. The actual UI looks good at first, but is clunkier than the old one.

The Sims 4 is a huge disappointment! I've been playing the Sims since Sims 1 came out. The town is too small, will not hold half as many new houses, or people, the cheats don't work as in Sims 3, every time a Sim leaves the lot, the needs start coming up again. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was a The Sims 2 lover and self-proclaimed pro (built an empire from zero to millionaires and no, I didn't cheat) and I was a The Sims 3 hater and quitter. If you are somewhat like me, you are going to love Sims 4. If you prefere the neighbourhood-focused, eagle-eye type of gaming (and did I mention nasty neighbourhood-focus?) that was in the Sims 3 you're probably going to dislike it... With the Sims 4 it depends on what your preferences were with the old games.

I read many reviews before deciding on if I should put my hard earned money on this game and I wasn't so tempted to do so after I got so disappointed with Sims 3. But my oh my am I happy that I decided to buy. IT IS LIKE THE SIMS 2, but MUCH BETTER!

    WHAT HAS IMPROVED:
The sims are much more complex, they can multitask, they are more fun to work with and develop. The architectural tools are precise and fullfilled, the build-your-sim-tool obviously the best so far with the minor letdown of no height adjustement (and strange fact that the teenagers are as tall as adults?). The many small tedeous details that were so time-consuming from earlier games have dissapeared, for example how easy the Sims pick up plates to how you can pay bills and choose to travel from your cellphone, you don't have to wait an eternity for a visitor, it's possible and easy to visit another lot and control your home-lot at the same time, people around your household also get older when you do (and you can switch that function off but I think it makes the game more real), you control music playing from the radio without the sim having to do anything, you can eazy breazy breastfeed your baby (yeye because I'm a momma!), I could go on and on. Simply improved and more fluent gaming!

I've read many complaints about the personalization tools from Sims 3 being gone (well I think it's a big relief) and that you don't get much stuff in the game and I think that is incorrect. The Sims 3 personalization tool was too heavy, took forever to load, had too much to choose and after a while you would just say "f*ck it, I don't care" and stop using it. You get a lot of clothes, furniture and stuff with Sims 4 and many choices of colour and design for each product which makes the personalization of your home and clothing much more comfortable yet stimulating. I also like how much furniture gets unlocked depending on your sims development. The career climbs and assignements are much more fun then ever before and you have to lead a pretty complex fake-real life in the game to reach you goals!

BIG plus for that your different households can interact with each other which makes it even easier to control the destiny of your family.

    WHAT I THINK NEEDS IMPROVEMENT:
The career choices are far too few to match all the types of sims you can build. For example my bodybuilder-bro sportsloving guy, would he be a secret agent/astronaut/journalist irl? No, I think he would be a carpenter, a plumber, maybe working as a fitness guru. I mean come on, why can you be a stand-up comedian but not a doctor, teacher, handyman or even gold digger? Why can't you choose more current careers like personal trainer, reality star, fashion designer, office bearer aso. It will all probably (hopefully!) come with the expansion packages (since EA Games are greedy bastards....) but ultimately I think it was a case of "let's just pick it and run with it" when it comes to the careers you can choose. Somewhat rushed.

It is quite disturbing as a gamer and viewer that the teenagers look exactly like adults and are of the same height... That should definitely get changed in the next update, with all the realness updates this is a backlash in the irl-departement. Also I was furious when I first read about the lack of toddlers before I bought this game, and now after playing and building a sims-family, I think it isn't as bad as I thought but also a stepback when it comes to the realness of the game. I mean if my life-ambition is a big happy family, how can I fully enjoy my ambition without having memories of having fun with little todleroos? I doesn't have to be that profound, it can be as easy as having babies but you simply have toddlers, please EA Games?

The only tool I wish was more complex for personalization is the hair/eye colouring tool... Now I simply can't hit the spot when designing my favourite celeb, myself or real people I know.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT, a review by someone that focuses on MY family, MY empire, MY household, MY gaming. With the Sims 4 I have much more control and I can be more focused then with The Sims 3, yet the game is much more fluent and complex then the Sims 2.

No cars for work. no ghosts no anything. just walk in a circle and enjoy all that was in sims 3 is now not in sims4 untill you pay for the DLC they have yet to make. EA is junk and it shows strongly.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As an avid simmer, this game was something I looked forward to since the announcement of its release. Having as much experience as I do with The Sims and EA, I expected great things from this game. Unfortunately, this game has been nothing short of a disappointment. With the additions of loading screens each time a sim leaves their home lot, it feels much less communal and the fact that there are only two defined "hangout" spots in the game does not help. The over rated Create A Sim features in this game are indeed different and put the sims in a brand new light, but the personalization does not change the fact that the sims look like characters from a Saturday morning cartoon. Unlike The Sims 3, the sims look lifeless and are now much less relatable. The feature I have found the most over rated has to be the emotions. Although it is nice that actions do effect my sims' moods, they are simply renamed versions of the moodlets from The Sims 3. In fact they are much less realistic than the "moodlets" from the previous game, they're over exaggerated and definitely not in a good way; which has caused them to feel a lot less relatable. I don't know about you, but when I need to go to the washroom I don't walk with a limp or slouch like a sloth when I'm hungry. In summary, EA you have disappointed. You have taken the game I've grown to love and turned it into a nightmare; I can honestly say I will never buy a new sims game again. Expand

I was expecting to get excited and that they would have major changes... but totally obtainable since Sims is all about changing how you look at games and pushing the limits... or at least they use to be.

These are things I was expecting:
1.) Rabbit holes are now accessible and you can follow your Sims into cafe, work and school.
2.) Sims look realistic and have a height slider.
    3.) Neighborhoods can be connected.
4.) Toddlers can go to daycare and preschool.
5.) Weather is included in base game.
6.) You can create your own patterns for CAS in-game.
7.) You can place hats, boots and jackets over your Sims' clothes.
8.) Aliens in the base game
9.) Sims can multi-task better. Ex. Can talk and exercise at the same time.

These are things I wanted, but wasn't expecting.
    1.) More traits.
2.) You can design your own neighborhood in-game with terrain paints, etc.
3.) Lots have a snap-to-grid feature for easier placing so you can connect them to roads easier.
    4.) Neighborhoods can be bigger.
5.) An expansion pack where you can visit the aliens' Home world.
6.) You can choose to make totally empty worlds, like in Sims 2.
7.) Can delete custom content in-game.
8.) Your Sims' hair grows and they can visit barber shops.
9.) Males have the option to take off their shirt when they get hot or sweaty at the gym. More realistic.

But this... this is just sad. This is worse than Sims 1. I would play Sims 1 before Sims 4. It feels like they're destroying one of my favorite franchises... like Mass Effect 3. This to me is not playable. I would rather have them work on the game for two more years than release it as it is, but my dad tells me it's not fixable and that they should just scrap it and start from the beginning. That Sims 4 is unredeemable. Now I'm just worried that there won't be a Sims 5 or worse... that there will be and it will be total crap.

And charging full price for expansions with DLC that should have been in the base game will not make things right. The ability to do two things at once, model character faces and build houses with my detail and ease are some fine additions to this sequel, but not enough of an addition to make it acceptable. The Sims 4 gets thumbs up for its Sim character additions, such as the moods, although they do change too frequently.
Overall, not bad for a Sims game, but not worthy to call a sequal to Sims 3. Expect tp keep your wallets open for EA to dig their hands in and take all of your money, just so you can have a dog, swimming pool and the occasional rain. Things that should already be in the game.

The first thing I notice was that the loading screen was quicker than The Sims 3 and I figured that that was some improvement. The next improvement was the interface. It looked beautifully sharp and was no doubt an upgrade to its counterparts but that's when I realize that the Sims 4 is just another SimCity (New One). With all of its improvement it seems to me that they dispose so many great aspect that made its counterpart so popular. The Sims 4 is a dumb down version of The Sims 3 believe it or not. Yes, the way your Sims act (emotion wise) is more 'real' than The Sims 3 unit but that's barely an improvement that could had easily been implemented on The Sims 3. Also, don't expect global view. Why? Because it's not there anymore. Another thing to not expect is color customization. Yes, you read it, no more creativity on how different you can make your avatar look. There are only a few things that The Sims 4 has really improve on. One as I mention before, is emotions and the way your avatar interacts with other Sims. Two, the way you build homes and how easily you can turn a box into a glorified piece of art. Last but not least, interfaces and loading time. And just to point out why it loads so fast is because there's no more global view and what I mean by that is, rather than seeing your Sim drive to the local gym or the local dance club, you get a beautiful loading screen instead. Oh yeah, did I also mention that you are limited to where you can live? Maybe this is just for now but it doesn't excuse the fact that you're limited to how your Sims can live. Overall, this version of The Sim is just a big disappointment. Wait until it goes on sale, gets improved updates, or have some type of bundle with extra DLC's because for a full $60 or $70 for the deluxe edition, it isn't worth it. The Sims 4 is meant to be played with medium-end performance, meaning most modern computers should be capable of running it without having to get high-end graphic card or CPU in comparison to The Sims 3 (If you want to run it without much difficulty). And if you do happen to like this version of The Sims, more power to you but this isn't my cup of tea. Expand

One thing EA did not do that terribly on is with the new create a sim which is one of the only things you can see an improvement in but even so, I feel restricted on what I can do since I can no longer edit items to how I please which, for me, takes the whole fun out of the creative process since it was the editing tool which I used so much of in sims 3.

Gameplay is bleak and boring, no open world anymore so we have to wait for those irritating and boring waiting screens before it loads and since the buildings have so little to do in them, within five minutes I find myself moving to another building and waiting frustratingly for another loading screen to end.
Careers are far worse then before with less choice and less opportunities whilst in those professions it really makes such a big part of the game boring and non-interactive. Well done ea, it feels as if I'm replaying sims 2 again and not in a good way.

Emotions are a good feature but as much as everyone seems to like this idea, it bothers me some. It grew irritating fast and I found the emotions feature more bothersome then enjoyable.

Building is a good added feature but since the game is such a let down it really makes little difference whether I can make a house quicker or not.

Overall if you are thinking about purchasing this game, from my own opinion just don't. If you're new to the world of the sims, buy sims 3. Heck even buy sims 2. Sims 4 is a rip-off for its money and due to how big the game is now, I wouldn't even buy it for half the price after having played it. This is the only sims game that I have bought, played for an hour and turned it off when I could have played the game for days on end. I hope EA do something spectacular to makeup for the disappointment of this game. In fact, I hope they burn the sims 4 and just skip onto a sims 5 with open world and all of these fantastic features I loved so much in the sims 3.
Even though it hurts to find out the good, the positives are the new create-a-sim and build mode but these factors alone cannot create a good game.

Missing features and a fatally restrictive ingame world are becoming hallmarks of EA's new releases. It's one flop after another, and they don't care because they know they'll make money regardless.... EA is like the Nicholas Cage of the video game industry.

Loading screens take a while, like five minutes. Some bull**** there. We have to BUILD our own house? Why

We have to BUILD our own house? Why can't we just buy one like in Sims 3? It takes forever, and I bet most people, Like I, don't even understand half of the **** it says!
The only reason I am giving it a 1 is because I love the character maker. That is ALL I like about this game. The controls are hard and annoying. Please, make like, a new one or something. An expansion or something! This right now, is awful, and lots of people agree. I suggest not getting it. Everyone wanted it so badly, and like mine, our wish didn't come true. Don't get this game. Just don't

Despite the many flaws of this game (to many to list) the selling point of The Sims 4 was supposed to be its simplicity. They wanted to make it easier. Easier than what? The last word I would use to describe The Sims franchise is hard. Everything has been dumbed-down to the point that it completely looses its functionality. Placing houses is incredibly easy, placing houses correctly is **** impossible. I continuously find myself placing houses with front doors facing away from the street and into a field, and this theme is constantly recurring all throughout the game, things are easy to do, just not properly.

Being that this is the "base game" I imagine it ill be improved upon. With the previous Sims installments each DLC was accompanied by a free update that improved the overall functionality of the "base game". I would say it would be fair to assume that after 5-6 expansions have been released, the base game will have gotten enough updates to be playable.

Unfortunately, The Sims always feels incomplete until a lot of DLC has been developed and released to expand the game-play. It always feels like something is missing. I find it likely that this will also be the same for The Sims 4 but on a much broader and lengthier scale. I would wait about a year and a half before purchasing this game.

Imagine playing Skyrim, but they locked off a load of the skill trees as DLC. Or playing Final Fantasy 7, but Yuffie and Vincent were downloadable characters and the Gold Saucer was DLC. The effect would be that you're playing a good game, but it's so bare bones that it can't possibly be considered a complete game.

The effect would be that you're playing a good game, but it's so bare bones that it can't possibly be considered a complete game.

Sims 4 takes this one step further. This "game" is quite literally a barebone skeleton of a game that is frankly nothing to write home about until the 1000 DLCs come out and flesh it out. Which, of course, means this will ultimately be a £200+ game.

Is it worth that outlay? It;s impossible to tell, but just going on the skeleton we have available to play, the answer is a resounding no. Why? Because this game is a shinier version of Sims 3, with added loaded screens. So why not just buy Sims 3 with all the DLC for not much more than the base game of Sims 4 costs? Hell, why not buy Sims 2, which again is a superior title for a few quid?

The emotion system in Sims 4 adds something different I guess, but it's not a good enough reason to justify the outlay or the time you'll invest in the title. That aside, nothing is better here than its' predecessors.

I'm not an EA hater. If they get something right, I'll praise them for it. But this title is everything EA is criticised for in a nutshell - DLC by the boatload, not much else.

And please can game reviewers at apparently reputable websites stop giving ridiculous scores to AAA titles to appease their paymasters? It's cynical and worrying as you are conning people into turning over hard cash on sub-par titles. Just stop it.

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
