Its a big bust and I have already requested a refund from Origin Game guarantee. It really isn't much better than Sims 2 except the sims are more realistic. I didn't really mind the travel function much...the loading time was not long...but there is no place you really want to go with your Sims. I'm just so disappointed. Expand

The game is an absolute disappointment, I'm not saying that the game is bad but it is very disappointing. I've been playing 'The Sims' since the first one, as a big fan of the series this is a big let down..

Giving it a 5, may just be too nice.
But the gameplay wasn't entertaining, it felt more forced on my part.

Not only is it sixty quid, it's also all the dosh you need to buy the expansion packs in the future too. By the time you've spent that much money, you'll have probably needed to take out a third mortgage. Not impressed EA. Not impressed at all.

The Create-A-Sim aspect of the game is arguably only one of two resounding saving graces of the game, but it still doesn't make the game actually worth sixty quid (or anything close to it!). The loading times are so shockingly quick in comparison to Sims 3 (mostly due to lack of content I should imagine, all you seem to get is the base elements of the game and that is IT) it makes you wonder why the hell did they make the Sims 3 so damn slow to launch up if they made Sims 4 launch up in far less time than it takes to boil a kettle.
The travel aspects are okay, the rest of it, not too great to be fair. There's nothing new about the Sims, not since the third one, there appears to be no massively noticeable improvements or innovations to the game other than the Sim Creation process, and that is about IT.

Can you smell the incoming expansion packery that is about to ensue over the next near decade?
This is why I didn't get it after I played it. For shame EA, for shame. How dare you con the Brits.

First I will say I had always been a Sims fan. I've played them all. I even bought Sims 2 and 3 the day they had come out. I played them for hours and hours on end, rarely ever getting bored.

The first hour of me playing Sims 4, I already had become so bored with it and left feeling completely disappointed. I was looking forward to the game, ever since it had first been announced them making a 4th installment to the Sims.

Ever since Sims 2 had come out, my favorite aspect has always been toddlers. I loved having my female sims get pregnant and raising their babies. I loved the family side of the game. Actually, just a month ago I was explaining to my husband about the Sims games and how far they had come with it, explaining how silly the infants were in Sims 1. Then what do I find out they did with Sims 4? They made the babies like Sims 1! Right when I thought I couldn't have been more disappointed with Sims 4, I learned about the downgraded infants...then right after I find out about the toddler cut. I love the toddlers as many people do. I can understand some people not liking the toddler stage in Sims, but EA could have made that more flexible in Sims 4 by being able to remove the toddler stage.. perhaps near where you can turn off aging? They had some nerve taking out toddlers altogether!

Another favorite aspect of mine in Sims 3 (which Sims 4 does not have) is story progression. In Sims 3, I loved creating a family, sticking them in a house, then forgetting about them as I played another household and then checking what the family I forgot about was up to, if the original couple I made got a divorce, if they had kids, what jobs they ended up getting, ect.

The load time SUCKS. I know the load time isn't long, but it still sucks. It's just another thing to make Sims 4 feel so much more limited than Sims 3. (Keep in mind, I remember Sims 3 vanilla days as I bought it when it first came out). I miss the open world in Sims 3!

I also don't like that they took out the style and color table tools.

Now the couple things I did like...

I liked what they did with create a sim. It was a bit awkward at first compared to what I was use to with Sims, but once I started to play with it, it grew on me. Again, the only thing I find it lacking is the style/color tools. Overall, I still had fun creating my sims.

The build mode was nice, I do love what they did with it. It still wasn't enough to win me over (none of it was) as I've always been okay with the building aspect of Sims 3.

I also love how much the Sims multi-task compared to any other Sims game.

That's really the only positive things I have to say about Sims 4... and I would have rather have paid to have the features I did like, into my Sims 3 because I won't be playing the Sims 4... not unless EA find a way to make up for this crappy game by giving us the features we miss!

I don't know how they will ever be able to give us open worlds again. Maybe when they make new neighborhoods, they can make some of them be like the open neighborhoods... but I won't count on it.

The Sims 4 is more like Sims 1 and 2 combo with a couple cool features, but not enough cool features to keep you in the groove when playing.

I hate to say it, but you really screwed up EA! I sure hope you find a way to fix this. If not, I will just keep continuing to play The Sims 3 which I'm more than fine with. I still have a blast when playing Sims 3, unlike I do with SIms 4.

20 hours now and here are my impressions:

    The Good:
    - Performance! So much faster, even with the loading screens
    - Build Mode is awesome! I can finally build something nice looking. The re-sizable rooms help a lot for remodeling.
    - Multi-tasking allows me to FINALLY manage all my sims' needs and wants in a large household.
    - I play the game more slowly - I really enjoying actually playing my sims for once. Instead of just speeding through on ultra speed, I find myself taking my time and wanting to fulfill the sims whims and aspirations. and relationship interactions are great.

    The Bad:
    - Obviously less content and I should at least be able to change colors of things
    - Lack of family tree and memories
    - Feel like the sims can get away with too much. I had a sim who was living with and having woohoo with two brothers, one of which she was married to. No one said a thing...

    The verdict:
I'm very glad I bought this game. At 17 hours, I have still only scratched the surface. I have yet to see a sim die. There are so many things I haven't done yet and I'm looking forward to doing more. I'm actually excited for the expansion packs. I feel like the base game of TS4 is so much better than any base game yet and I think after it's not so trendy to bash the game anymore, people will come around and say this is the best sims game yet.

The Sims 4 is a game that takes EA's franchise one step forward and three steps back, with certain welcome features but a number of shocking omissions. Good music and graphics result in a polished game, but a single play-through exposes the limitations of this game compared to The Sims 3.

The game starts off by giving you a good impression – loading times are noticeably shorter than they are in The Sims 3, allowing you to jump straight into Create-A-Sim Mode. It is here that the development time spent on The Sims 4 shines through, with virtually any part of the Sim being adjustable with an easy click-and-drag. One criticism of this mode is that while the functionality is improved, the organisation of the entire mode is not. For example, accessories on the face and accessories on the body are in separate categories. Furthermore, players (as far as I know) have to click on the Sims’ bodies at some point to get to other settings, as opposed to The Sims 3 in which every setting was accessible from the buttons at the side. Filters for clothing, while handy, are somewhat tedious to use because they do not switch themselves off when you switch to a different set of clothes (e.g. from everyday to formal) and they aren't always onscreen, necessitating a few more clicks than one would like.

Create-A-Style is absent, and perhaps the second-biggest turn off in The Sims 4. While EA has sensibly chosen to include more styles for each set of clothes, furniture, tiles and wall coverings, the lack of this feature means that if you wanted to make a copy of a house, The Sims 3 would give you much closer results. The exclusion of this feature brings us back by a decade to The Sims 2. In defense of The Sims 4 though, the addition of wall heights, movable rooms, easy-to-build foundations and roof trims make the rest of build mode more powerful than before. Oh wait, swimming pools and basements are missing too.

So the second-biggest turn off is Create-A-Style. What’s the biggest? The Sims 3 came with an open world mode, allowing players to follow the Sims inside and outside their house. The Sims 4 doesn't. Loading screens separate any movement of Sims outside their homes, save for the two or three other houses in the same area. Granted, these loading times are short. However, they also take a lot of immersion out of the game, so I could either choose to have limited but immersive gameplay by making my Sims stay at home only, as opposed to going to community lots, or I could choose to tolerate the loading screens which do nothing except make me wish I was back playing The Sims 3.

No review of The Sims 3 would be complete without talking about the new mood system. In my opinion, I do not care much for it. My Sims fluctuate between fine and happy very often, and every time this happens there will be some music to indicate this (and the music cannot be switched off). Little moodlets that Sims can have determine the final mood of the Sim. If my Sim happens to have +2 angry but +3 confident, then that Sim will be confident and not show any signs of anger at all. After a while, the confidence wore off and my Sim switched from confident to being angry. All the while my brain is screaming “That’s not how moods work!” and now both the Sim and I are angry.

In Life mode, social motives take a lot more work to keep high, and chatting online is now virtually useless. Sims can talk for hours on end online and still not be particularly satisfied. Romance is improved to be more realistic, as it actually takes more work to build a romantic relationship, whereas in The Sims 3 you could spam romantic interactions and get your Sims married in a few in-game hours. Despite this, the game still feels backward because as stated above, there is no open world. Sadly, the absence of the open-world means that EA could put 50 new features in the game and still not make it as satisfying as The Sims 3 was. The sadder thing is that EA didn't put 50 new features in the game anyway. To depress you further, the maximum height of buildings is now three storeys instead of five.

So let me now end off with the positives. The performance of the game is better on the same hardware than The Sims 3. The music sounds good. Sims look better. The user interface, as a whole, looks much more modern. The grass is greener? I’m struggling to come up with more positives already. The same can’t be said for the negatives of the game – here’s another three. Traits are more limited, careers are simplified and limited anyway, cars are gone, and toddlers have vanished. Oh wait, that was four. What more do I have to say? The Sims 4 looks polished enough to be branded an EA game, but is nowhere near complete enough to be a part of The Sims. The disastrous thing is that if the Sims 4 is successful, there weren't be a Sims 5 (Google it). So if you have a copy of The Sims 3, keep it well. You might be playing it for a while.

I built my own rig just to be able to play the Sims 3 "on the performance level it deserves to be played." It is a glorious PC, but it still cannot fully stand the stress the Sims 3 puts on it. I thought the Sims 4 would be different, but after 60 hours of game play it too lags and twitches and slowly begins to murder my PC. I am sure I am not alone here.

I would be so incredibly ashamed of myself if I was an employee of Maxis, EA or even Origin. The fact that this game was released prior to being ready for the gaming public (it seems every generation's release follows this pattern) is beyond criminal. These companies take FULL advantage of simmers who live and breath the game no matter the glitches and the quality they must suffer.

Now the 7 day refund game guarantee window has closed. The money I have spent over the years supporting this game is such a despicable thing. The money and time we have ALL spent on this game is a disgrace.

After 60 hours playing the Sims 4- the family growth, career development, home upgrades, special objects obtained, to start from the bottom again. It is exasperating. This game is a sad, disappointing thing, and I am defeated. I quit. Congratulations EA, Maxis, and everyone involved in this grand scheme. You win.

1- Sims are not too cartoonish unless you make them so. As a person who hates cartoonish style in gaming I must admit that I menaged to make my sims very realistic. And overall world aldow cartoonish is not ugly at all. I know what you're all thinking,"we have seen the trailers they are cartoonish" trust me during actual gameplay they do not feel that way at all, unless you make them so.
2- Emotions are not overpronounced at all. Sims dont swag too much and none of my sims died from laughter. In fact they are more alive then ever and their reactions on world and situations are not annoying as they often are in Sims3.
3- When I read about how they improved emotions, I was thinking "WTF sims already had emotions and personality just fine" but boy was I wrong. The new sims are truly alive, and you wont belive how enjoyable and engaging it is to see their personalities emerge during gameplay.
4- I played on high graphics settings (not maximum) without experiencing a single glitch or lag, and I play on the same computer that could play Sims3 only on lower resolution and medium settings.
5- On the other hand my game crashes a lot, and there is no autosave so I often lose my game witch is very annoying. And managing saved games is bad, although you can have multiple saves you can only load the last save. Or I haven't figured out how to load previous saves yet.
6- Yes, not having open world is unforgivable.
7- It is more challenging to manage sims now than before, or to say it in another word gameplay is more engaging.
8- This is definitely not the final product. There are gaps everyware telling us that only with a few expansions this game will be complete.

As a tool with all freedoms that it gives us The Sims3 is definitely much better game, but Sims4 have the same charm that Sims2 had. Although I am saddened by limited options we now have, I must confess that very quickly I learned to enjoy limitations, and now I have opportunity to actually meet my sims and truly play with them instead of endles building environment they live in.

Additionally, the music is well-done, the interface (once you've gotten used to it) is a nice improvement, and the game itself loads faster than any of the other base games - especially TS3. So overall, not a bad game, right? Wellllll.....

The issues I take with TS4 are multi-fold. First and foremost, the price vs the level of completion. I wouldn't have minded shelling out $70 to a small, indie game with lots of potential, where devs actually needed the money to continue development. However, dropping $70 into a multi-million dollar franchise and getting a game that is, well... not finished.... is a little ridiculous. I didn't complain too much about the loss of open world - honestly, the loading pages take about as long as cross-map travel would have anyway, and probably won't get much longer with added DLC, so we're good there. Fortunately, the immediate area is open, so I can still visit next-door neighbors without dealing with loading.

That said, I find it absolutely unacceptable that EA left so many bugs in the game. I've run into the majority of the known bugs at this point, and the two updates I've seen since launch a little over a week ago, seem to be making things worse. Showers keep running, even when there's no one in them (and seem to break faster when they do)... Conversations with other family members become "stuck", where no matter what those sims are doing, they're conversing - which messes with their ability to do other things - like bathe. With any other installment in the series I would hit one, maybe two bugs if I were really unlucky, and rarely more than one in the same day. With TS4, it's every two or three Sim hours (yeah, seriously.)... EA's best solution? Create a secondary "save" file, and send one sim travelling - and follow that sim. That *should* fix the issue. They think. Insert eye roll.

Honestly, I was a bit concerned with the demo Create a Sim. The game just didn't look the way I'd expected it to. But I shook off my trepidation, and told myself this was probably an earlier version that EA wanted to use as an example. This was true - there are, in fact, subtle improvements to the full create-a-sim that weren't present in the demo. That said, however, the improvements just weren't significant enough. There are an extremely limited number of options - even down to the color combinations one can choose per clothing article. With base TS3, even though there were very few available choices for content (just like any base Sims game, kids)... The possibilities were infinite - you could literally make a hundred (or more) different outfits from the same shirt, pants, and shoes - all dependent on what patterns/fabrics you chose for each piece. I could spend hours in TS3 perfecting my sims. TS4 takes that ability away, and now, while I like the more intuitive style of designing the actual sim, I spend about 5 mins finding a clothing combination I hate the least, before being over THAT hot mess.

The career choices are wildly unrealistic - what happened to the cop, the doctor, the businessman, and all the rest of the "normal" career paths? I mean, come on. I like the amount of challenge that's been added into promotion - I always play my sims on prolonged lives, so promotions before were just way too simple. I can also appreciate the challenge added to the "major wishes" - and I especially like that they're now relative to the age groups and you can have more than one! It always seemed stupid to me that a sim would finish his or her lifetime aspiration as a teen (or child), and just be done with "it all"... So that's kind of cool. However, putting the same amount of difficulty getting a child's "promotion" or "goal" there as an adult's is stupid. Their age-up time is less.

My final complaint, before I run out of characters, is this: TS4 just isn't as "immersive" as earlier base games in the franchise - the player just doesn't get sucked in the way past games did. In a running series like this, the games should be GROWING, always improving (and, you know... finished BEFORE release). My hope is that future DLC and updates will correct the glaring flaws, of which there are unfortunately many with TS4. The game has potential, and for a first-time indie game, or even an open beta, it'd be a great start. The problem lies in the fact that this ISN'T an indie game - EA and Maxwell have been doing this long enough at this point to have known better than to release an inferior product.

The CAS is pretty good with many features available but I must say I'm disappointed at the lack of clothing choices but I'm sure knowing EA we will get more in 100 DLC packs...The Building is also really enjoyable as it offers new things for both new and old sims players; can be simple for new and advanced for old. I'm loving how the game is keeping up with the times with a great focus on tech even a TECH CAREER! :-) Sadly careers are quite limited and there isn't much choice...Once again more in DLC...The graphic style is another talking point and personally I really like it..I think of it as Marmite you're gonna love it or hate it. Most of the negativity I'm seeing is from people saying it's a step back..I personally see tons of potential in this game and look forward to the future. What am I not looking forward to is the fact a lot of things we hope to see will probably come in future expansions and DLC..I'm just hoping we get some free as EA is starting to take the P**s..I know Sims has always been about expansions but EA is terrible.. Not sure why the score for this game is so low, I think it's fun and engaging on many levels. Though I do miss create a style, my score would be higher were it not for that missing.

The AI in Sims 3 was pretty good, the Sims answered nice your commands, they act like real people, so you never get tired of playing it, otherwise in The Sims 4 the IA is trully bad, the Sims took too much time to do simple things like eat, cook, take a piss and principally, they took a lot of time to change from an action to other, for an example, your Sim was playing on the computer, than you command him to go to the bath, he took almost 30 min (in the game) just to go to the f*cking bath, I mean, what?

The game just stills with 50 out 100 by some nice improvements, like the Sim creation and the House Bulding, which are pretty improved and pretty good, the graphics are lighter, brigther and more friendly, ah, and the Sims emotions are better expressed.

Conclusion, well, EA trully needs to learn how to improve in something.

I liked the graphics, they were ok and it seems they focused more on the Sims and their emotions and left out everything else.

Create-a-Sim is great even though the color limitations for the items surprises me. The build mode is by far the best out of their make overs. It appears the NPC Sims do not evolve and everything else seem so easy. Basically it improved some of the Sims aspect

I think the key to having fun with this game is make quite a few Sims so that you have more of a variety of Sims to interact with. I would recommend this game if you haven't played the other versions in a while.

What the sims is is still there and that at least is still promising. CAS is fantastic and is the best ive ever seen for creating a character in any game. Build mode alows you to build AMAZING houses no matter what skill. In previous sims games my houses were horrible and compared to other simers they were garbage but in sims 4 I am able to build houses that match those even with the most skill. Emotions add a fantastic new depth to the game never reached before and tied with the muilty-tasking make it a great game. Also this is the most beautiful Sims game to date. With these reasons is why if I ever go back to Sims 3, I feel that the emotions and muilty tasking and its cartoonish art style will be very missed if going back to sims 3. I feel more connected to my sims and it is something I though sims 3 lacked, while sims 2 got that just right, and it finally returned with sims 4. Unfortunally, the only reason why this is not a 9, or even a 10 is because it is missing stuff. I did love the open world of sims 3 and I actually have been very forgiving of the loading screens in sims 4 since they are very short and sims 2 is my favourite sims game and it had loading screen so it is not a problem. But if it has to load the house right beside me that is in the same area. I can literally walk up to a house but to step into the lot I need to load the house. I feel if it was just open world for just the area you were in, it would have been improved immensely. Also I dont see what all the fuss is about cars, there is really no need for them and walking is fine. I dont care about toddler's though, in both sims 2 and 3 I tried to rush that stage as fast I could because I thought it was boring and unconnected me from the rest of the game so I am glad it was not included but I do not accept the way a baby is an object(what is this sims 1?). Pools will be missed though since they were greatly fun especially at parties. Also create a style. I loved making new styles for my sims, and to match their personality and the pasterns and colours feel limited.

Sims 4 is still a great game though, it is challenged by problems yes but for me the pros outweigh the cons making this my Favourite sims base game to date, and not to Mention how much smoother it runs then sims 3. On the same computer I can run sims 4 on ultra and get 60 FPS while sims 3 was on medium and it was lucky if it reached 30.

I hope long time players (like I) give this a shot, maybe at least when the price is reduced, because it still is a great game and has a lot of potential to become the best in the series.

After playing for a few hours I can see both sides of the spectrum on where the game improves and where it is definitely lacking. I was so sad when I could not fully roam the world with my Sims and had to load between each time I wanted to go to the lounge or library. Another thing that completely annoyed me was each time one of my sims had a dish they had to go to a sink to wash it. When you have a family of six sims this can get pretty ridiculous. I do miss the toddlers and feel like there is a lot of room for improvement on the Sim Family side of things. Another thing I think I miss most from Sims 3 was the control we had over the exact color of pretty much any item from eyeliner all the way up to the design on the wall paper. I hope that they can come up even with a basic color wheel to change colors of items. What I was excited for was the vast variety of clothing that actually seemed plausible. No longer is there horrible clothing that would just clutter the categories. I like the idea of having more flexibility towards the shaping of each Sims body whether your adjusting the chest or even the just the bridge of the nose. The building option I think has improved in the right direction. I personally like the by room feature. Another thing I like is how I can open the gallery right there and then and just drop a random Sim into my families home. Overall I think they made a mediocre attempt to do what they could in the time span they were given. I'm hoping they can salvage up some more options in expansion packs. I rated this a 5 because I do feel like they could have done a stellar job but just fell short. Would I recommend buying the game? I think that with the expansion packs and custom content to follow I feel like this could potentially turn out to be a great game. Expand

Those who have given this game a positive review clearly fall into one of two categories: 1) Those who have never really played the Sims before, or only ever played casually and 2) Those who will always and forever blindly love anything with the word "Sim" in the title regardless of its quality and who may have unlimited disposable income.

This is not a complete game, period, and anyone trying to argue that's not the case is a straight up liar. In fact, if anyone from EA would be honest for a minute, I am sure they would agree with this sentiment. Originally, Sims 4 was meant to be a multiplayer online experience akin to SimCity. With such a big planned departure from previous Sims' titles, features present in other games were understandably left out. When SimsCity failed, EA changed gears... but by that point it was too late to go back and create something that worked as a standalone, single player game.

Like a lot of people, I find the changes made to the Sims themselves (including the changes to CAS, minus the absence of Create a Style) to be positive. However, the good things about the game basically end there. Yes, build mode is more powerful but I used Create a Style so much that without it I can do almost nothing I want. This isn't just about missing pools and toddlers. The game is missing its charm, its soul. That's what is unforgivable.

Conversations are awkward and difficult to maintain. Pathfinding is a mess. Glitches abound. I could go on and on about what's bad without once using the phrase "missing from Sims 3," although that really wouldn't be accurate since there are indeed many things available in the Sims 3 base game that have gone the way of the wind and are sorely missed. I'm not going to list them; many of these lists are available elsewhere online. All I will say is these absences are completely conspicuous and only add to the feeling of incompleteness.

This is so bad that I fear the series is done with this title. This was my single most anticipated release of the year, and I found it so disappointing that it moved me close to tears. The Sims franchise was and still is an absolute cultural phenomenon. Those of us who have been playing from the beginning have been doing so for close to fifteen years. I have so many good memories of The Sims, The Sims 2, and the Sims 3, as do many others. While I feel that video games can be art, they are also completely commercial and thus I believe that game developers do have a certain degree of responsibility to their fans of all devotion levels. To roll this out, call it The Sims, and try to convince us that it is anywhere near what we have seen before in the franchise is an absolute disgrace.

Trust me, EA knows all of this. If you don't believe me, then I'll leave you on this note: The Sims 4 is the first title in the franchise that was not released early to be reviewed, and that says about as much about the game as anything else possibly can.

2.Sims are now able to do multiple things at once. The second thing is talking 9/10
3.You can now give parties, even with multiple sims having birthday at once.
4.The new talents are also quite cool, although not that much different to sims3, except they often affect your mood and wishes, which appears quite often. Which leads me to mood.
5.The mood feature is pretty cool after all, it makes you want to use it, because it appears in the right situation and seems realistic. For example: You feel confident after you brush your teeth, then you go to another Sim and use: "confident pick-up line". If you succeed you will feel both, confident and coquettish, while one of them is always stronger. If brushing your teeth was the only action making you feel confident, you might be mainly coquettish now, what allows you to do specific flirty things.
This is basically the only thing which keeps you playing and the game fluent.
6.Emotions look real and are nicely animated.
7.Building your house is easy but not quite full filling.
    8.Cool new jobs.

Now the bad things. There are plenty's of them, I might forget some.
1.You can't define and precise colours of your clothes anymore
2.There are only two very small worlds.
3.Which despite being small have a loading screen for every single house and you have to travel by clicking your phone.
4.No dishwasher / not many objects you can purchase, especially a huge lack of games. Darts, balls, anything. Just a table to play cards on, music instruments, computer and chess.
5.No age step between baby and child.
6.Children don't feel childish, more like too little teens.
7.You can't see any stats, work progress, relation status or ANYTHING except the picture as long your Sim is at work.
    8.No pools.
9.Sims who you have any kind of progressed relationship with (mother, daughter, gf,bf, a.s.o) will try to visit you EVERYDAY and sometimes THRICE if you are not at home (because you are at work too, because your several other does not when you work), until you let them in. For every time you don't (because you don't quit working to come home and open the door), your relationship decreases.
10.Sims need to pee way too much and will often wake up because of that.
11.Babies are objects now, which are only able to lay in bed or be cuddled, but never let out.
12.If you don't pay attention while cooking you will miss the cake for your birthday after work, because you need to bake it and can't purchase one.
13.Parties start immediately, no matter which state of needs, mood, time, or being at work. Parties at the bar will likely be flops, because the entertainer has no piano (no one told you he needs one before of course) and if you did not bring a cake (to blow out the candles is your main goal in the party "mission") because you did not know it start immediately... well you won`t get any, not by any chance and you will load being very frustrated.
14."Make love" option tends to disappear and you have to click the bed like S2.
15.Sims switch chairs and run around like having AD HS.
16.You still can't ask Sims about their age. (I know you don`t ask women for their age but pls... I married a young looking woman, married her and 4 days later, one day after giving birth to my son she grew a senior. My Sim wants to make 10 babies, hard with an old lady like her. At least she has a daughter...)
    17.No ghosts.
    18.No environmental events/activities
    19.Not a single dlc of Sims3 found it's way into vanilla Sims4
20.You feel robbed and betrayed all the time. You will feel like: "I bet this will come with a dlc", or "Really? No dishwasher?" 9/10 Minutes.

Pls don't buy this game. If it was tagged with 20€ I would recommend it, but for this retail price and as member of a progressed Sims-Series, it should have been so much better.
    I hope this was helpful.

After the release however, I found out that it was a bunch of PR bull#*@$. Almost none of what made the previous sims (sims 3) great, was in the sims 4. No more open world, loading screens even when visiting your nextdoor neighbor, tiny "cities" (they call them worlds.. what a joke), limited clothing and build items, etc.. I could go on but I'd rather touch on their "improvements". The new sims touts better emotions and smarter sims. While I do like some of the changes, it's still needs a lot of work. In the end it's barely a improvement over the sims 3 interactions and certainly not an excuse for all the stuff they left out.

My final thought is that maybe if Sims 3 never happened, this game might've been praised a bit more. Maybe. As it is it feels like a $60+ Emotion and Texture DLC for sims 2 (IF you also removed several features from sims 2). Do not buy.

I looked forward to Sims 4 - knowing that toddlers have been wiped from the face of the earth (is this a Freudian decision on the part of parents of toddlers?) but hoping that the flexibility of Sims 2 would be restored.
As it is, Sims 4 has created a record. I picked up my copy at 17.30 today. Installed it. Loaded it. Created a family and a house. And logged off at 18.45.
Possibly the lack of documentation or anything remotely useful in the ReadMe file is a handicap. The tutorial irritated by telling me what, by accident, I seemed to be trying to achieve - but how do I find out what there is to achieve?
Also, I live in a multilingual household: what happened to the option to instal in a language other than US English?
The only plus over previous Sims offerings that I have discovered is that I can play on my laptop when I'm away from home without having the single DVD drive occupied by a Sims disk, allowing me to listen to my choice of music while playing instead of having to make do with whatever radio is available.
At least, it will be a plus if, in due course, I find some reason to play Sims 4 again.

There are two enormous problems with this.

First, the game is not free. Far from it. It is priced at the very top tier of AAA titles. Definitely a poor value for what you get.

Second, even if it were free, or priced more in line with the newly limited gameplay options, whatever content EA plans to sell further on down the road isn't available yet, leaving you stranded with half a game. I suspect the reason for this is that EA knows if they offered this inadequate experience with the option to immediately spend even more money on additional content, the backlash would be tremendous. We wouldn't put up with with it — nor should we, even if this strategy is barely veiled. That backlash should exist now in the form of not another sale.

Yes, it is true, the game seems smaller, even if you only compare it to the "The Sims 3" base-game without the add ons, it just looks and feels like a mini Sims version, but after all i caught myself playing the game for several hours and actually enjoying it.

I can understand the people who are angry about the changed graphics (which are really a matter of taste, personally i like them, i think it fits with the typical Sims feeling perfectly well), the omitted features like the swimming pools or the toddler age, and the strongly limited variety of furniture or clothing.

But seriously folks, even if you include all this negative points it isn't a zero, a one or anything under 4. Maybe i don't get it, but a zero would be: "The game don't start" or "This is just a picture of a tree".

All in all i think it's a nice game, not a really good game, not a bad game and certainly not a great game, but it's okay, it's fun, it has potential and maybe they "patch things up" - We will see.

    Pro:
+ (In my opinion) graphics that really match to "The Sims"
+ Multitasking (it makes thing a lot easier)
+ Better Performance (it feels faster, saves/loads faster, runs smoother, etc...)
+ Great "Create-a-Sim" mode (but could use more clothing)
+ Massively improved building mode (it's just fun)

    Contra
    - Far too few furniture (and some of them look just odd)
    - No open world (which, on the other hand, improve game stability and vitality)
    - For my taste, too small worlds (but you can switch between them with just a click)
    - No "Create a Style" (which means no customizations of the colors of furniture, hair, clothing, etc. - which annoys the hell out of me)
    - too expensive (at the moment it doesn't feel like a AAA-title, but it cost as much as one)

Hope my opinion could help, and again sorry for my English, but i just wanted to share my opinion on this game :)

So after ripping customers off with tons of Sims 3 DLC and expansions, the thieves at EA decide to wipe the slate clean and release a bare bones Sims 4, designed for the sole purpose of robbing customers again. EA is nothing but criminals, plus this game is terrible.

I like the sims games and I am not blind to the problems the Sims 3 had. The Sims 4 has no expansions yet so its being compared to the Sims 3 with all its extra content. So its not going to look good.
Fact is though, compared to the Sims 3 without any expansions, the Sims 4 does not have much of anything, the maps may be designed to improve performance but they have cut back too far, you can see your neighbors house, but if you want to visit it, there is a loading screen to deal with and if you switch between your Sims whilst one is out, there is a bug that stops your Sim entering your front door. I found my self actually bored, the game seems to be Eat Sleep and **** and little else. Sure the emotions are funny and the character creation is interesting. But the UI it self scatters everything all over the screen, its not all in one place anymore so you spend the first hour wondering where everything is and the rest of your life cursing the design decision that put everything in each corner of the screen. Also the Sims look pretty dated, this is not much of an upgrade over the Sims 3 from a graphics perspective, in fact it may even be a step back once you get over the new hair and stuff. The game is very slick and polished when you go to town and find only 4 buildings you can enter and there is loading screen between each of those, you more or less get the idea that the Sims 4 has a bad case of anorexia, which for £50 for the standard game, makes it one of the biggest rip offs on sale today. EA being the holder of most of these rip off records. Having said that, if your willing to throw money at EA I am absolutely positive they will solve all these problems with a whole series of grossly over priced expansions.

There are so many things that I dislike about this game! I am an AVID sims player, and have played since the sims 1 first came out. I literally play every day. EVERY DAY. That being said, this game is a giant bucket of poop. For $70 (more than any other sims game) I expected so much more.

One thing that I heard was rumors about them FINALLY adding was a height adjustment tool in CAS.

One thing that I heard was rumors about them FINALLY adding was a height adjustment tool in CAS. This has been an extremely annoying aspect ever since I can remember. It bothers me so much when my female sims are larger than males.... which every female is in the sims 4 so far, regardless of their weight.

I did enjoy the new features of CAS, but once I got started with the gameplay, I was extremely disappointed. I've only played for a few days, and I feel like I have done everything possible in the game. Things like careers and the travel remind me of the sims 2, which is a huge bummer. The babies SUCK, and remind me of the sims 1... because they are objects that you can only interact with through the crib.

My favorite part of the sims has always been the building and customizing. This is virtually gone, just as in the sims 2. Create a style was the best part of the build/buy mode on TS3, and they took that away too (classic EA). There are basically 3 style options: mission, victorian, and modern. You want different styles for different households? Too bad.

The emotions are basically the same thing as the moodlets from the sims 3, except for the special social interactions. I was intrigued at first, but the emotions just got annoying after about an hour of playing. Emotions are not why people play the sims.... It just isn't. Also, the fact that you can walk up to your partner in ANY mood and still WooHoo out of nowhere is completely unrealistic.

Another thing that I hate is the lack of diversity in terms of how to kill your sim. My sim died from embarrassment after peeing herself.... I mean, really?

I could go on for days about the list of objects missing from the sims 3, but that would be a waste of time. I can't wait to spend hundreds of dollars on DLC.... Don't waste your money (at least not until there are expansion packs).

I'm getting extremely frustrated at the fact there is so many loading screens. My sim visited their neighbours house and it came up with a loading screen, unlike the sims 3 you could just walk to your neighbours, in fact you could walk anywhere.

The Sims 4 doesn't allow you to do that which doesn't give the game that sense of realism.
Another let down is the lack of building in the worlds, it seems somewhat empty and hardly anything to do. It makes you feel bored even before the journey begins.. Even though you can travel from world to world it doesn't make up for the 'empty' feel and the lack of community buildings and plots.

I'm very shocked to say that I would much prefer to play The Sims 3. Sims 4 is completely different to the rest of the sims generation but not in a positive way to say the least! I hope that they bring out patches sooner than later because all I've seen is bad review after bad review!

Create a sim is a better experience than the one in sims 3 although no likes, zodiac signs or life wishes. Then you pick a house, first of all, the world is FLAT. No hospitals or schools. You have to load to a different screen every time you decide to go do something which is between a bar, lounge, gym and a museum. Fun, right? NO. I like the new multitask feature, along with the sims seeming more "life-like". But sims 3 wins with all of the creativity, raising a family is actually normal, you have cars, normal jobs and you feel like you're in a real world. I don't completely hate this game, but I didn't keep an interest in me. I'd much prefer The Sims 3 due to having much more things, besides the glitches (just suck it up and delete the custom content). The Sims 4 is way too boring and do not buy the premium version because it comes with party hats (yay?) and a tiki bar (I don't really need that). Because you barely party in the sims 4, including its hard to make friends. Also, you have tons of bars already in the game to select from so why do you need a tiki bar? I have no idea. Stick with The Sims 3, and if you do plan on wanting to play The Sims 4, wait until it gets somewhat cheaper and for EA to hopefully add in more features without paying (HIGHLY DOUBT IT). Expand

I give a rating of +1, 0, or -1 in each category and every game starts at a 5 out of 10. I want to state in the very start of this review that I am not comparing The Sims 4 to any previous installment in the series however I will talk about new things it has added to the series. I am not biased for or against The Sims 4 and EA; I am doing this as a professional review not a biased one.

To start off, The Sims 4 is the definition of a make your own story kind of game, it allows you to make your own character, make your own house, and essentially make your own story. The slogan for The Sims 4 is "Smarter Sims, Weirder Stories" and that is exactly what we were given. The Sims 4 introduced multitasking, smarter autonomy, emotions, and more individualized skills. They have also added many new ways for Sims to interact and to live their life including dying from hysteria and becoming so inspired they create a masterpiece. EA delivered on their promise for smarter Sims and weirder stories, for these reasons I give the Story category a +1.

It is very easy to give a rating to the Multi-Player/ Cooperative category for this game simply because it does not have, does not need to have, and was never meant to have a multi-player function. I will not penalize a purely single player game for not having a multi-player therefore I give The Sims 4 a 0 in this category.

Their is a lot of debate and negative feelings towards The Sims 4 and do not worry readers, I share some of the same convictions as you do. However I must acknowledge the creativity that EA has pulled off in creating this game. The amount of depth that is included in the create-a-sim mode is astounding, they have basically revolutionized character creation by simply removing sliders and giving you complete control of your creativity. They have also created an interesting graphics engine that sort of goes along with the whole weirder stories thing they got going on. I like the direction they tooke with this game in terms of creativity and I have to give it a +1 in Creativity.

Now lets get down to the nitty gritty, Entertainment and Replay Value. The Sims 4 is entertaining, that is a fact, however is it $60 worth of entertaining... definitely not. The Sims 4 has the same core game play that players have loved for around a decade however it takes away some of the features that made the previous games so great such as an open world, the ability to change the colors of objects and clothing, and the ability to call services to make your sims' life easier. The lack of colors and customization to choose from leaves the player feeling detached from their creations and not fully taking on the role of their sim. This game has stirred up a lot of controversy and pissed off a lot of dedicated fans and they have good reason to be pissed. EA took away great game play mechanics and included barely enough content to make the game worth $20 let alone $60. Overall if I was describing the Sims series in general I would give it a +1 in Entertainment Value but we are talking about The Sims 4 so I have to give a -1 for its frustrating lack of customization and the annoying amount of loading screens the player must deal with just to leave his home. Along with this comes it replay value, which yet again The Sims franchise provides TONS of but The Sims 4 falls short. I have to give The Sims 4 a -1 for Replay Value due to the lack of content and the closed ended game that they have created.

Overall due to the above factors I must give The Sims 4 a 5 out of 10. Personally, I do not recommend the game as it is now, for me to wholeheartedly recommend it there must be a significant price drop or a whole **** ton of free content for the base game. I am a huge fan of The Sims franchise and this was a huge disappointment to me, I wish I could say it was worth it but it just wasn't.

Loading is all over the place and it kills it for me. They told us about neighborhoods but i did NOT think that meant load times to walk to my next door neighbors house! The towns themselves are decimated and about 1/3 the size they used to be... if even that.

Then comes customization! At this point, i feel totally fine saying there is really none to be had. You are limited to their choices in colors and styles for everything for you hair and eyes, to you clothes, your furniture, your walls, appliances... everything really. I dont like a lot of their pre-set options either. The very least I am done playing this game until Create-a-Style comes back. Its not Sims without customization. Anyone else remember 1 and 2? you could make your own MODELS for furniture and other things and import completely new items into the game. Sims 3 irritated me at first with the removal of that ability but from a business stance i understood.. And sims 3 did provided many in game ways to still make their models look the way you wanted them too through color and pattern. Now i cant even kind of do that.

Simulation games have so much more computing power to play with in today's general home set-ups. EA's decision to takes 10 giant steps backwards as far as game features in Sims 4 just rankles and smacks of shady business practices. I'm sure an expansion will come out with more customization options that will cost another $40. This is something the sims series has done each round... remove standard features and re-introduce them as expansions... but this is hitting the limit of my tolerance.

That game does not deserve the negative reviews at all! If these people would dig beneath the surface and give this BASE game a chance they would realize it is the deepest and most nuanced of The Sims series to date. There are just so many cool details added and the game focuses on The Sims themselves! This is a life simulation game after all, is it not???!

I didn't find this game as bad as many other users are saying, though there are definitely areas where the game feels straight-up incomplete. Essentially if you liked the play style of The Sims 2, you're more likely to enjoy this game — that would be me, since I didn't use the open world of The Sims 3 all that much except as a novelty, and I missed being able to switch back and forth between households just like save files. You just have to consider The Sims 4 as its OWN game (difficult, of course, since the name implies a direct progression), and adjust your expectations accordingly.

There are things that are really, really good — socializing in a group feels very natural, as does multitasking. I had a delightful moment where a Sim cooked himself food, then carried the plate past the dining table and into the study so he could sit, eat, and talk with another Sim who was playing video games. Build mode is also really fun.

Then there are things in the game that are very obviously cut corners (besides toddlers and pools). When you go to work, there's no carpool (one of the best parts of getting a promotion was seeing your new ride), you just walk to your mailbox and vanish. There are fires but no fire department, and no burglars or police. I would argue that the burglar has been a defining characteristic of the series, on the covers of boxes and whatnot, but now he's gone. There's no repairman; you have to fix everything yourself.

Furthermore, I feel as though the emphasis on short term emotions have firebombed attention to long term relationships. For instance, I experimented and had a Sim cheat on his spouse with a neighbor. No indication whatsoever that it was cheating — all the interactions and moodlets made it look like an adorable, budding new romance. There is no family tree, so generational lineage doesn't mean much.

If you can accept the game for what it is aiming for, you get a game that is pretty fun but that is also just clearly not done. I am really hoping that, like with SimCity, they release some free updates to add missing content before starting up the endless DLC machine.

I genuinely cannot understand where all the bad reviews are coming from, it seems to me like people are reading reviews and noticing 'problems' they would never have bothered about before. Why would you want to watch your Sim glitch from place to place (as the Sims 3 was slow to the point it was almost unplayable) when you can travel there within seconds? Granted, there are a number of things missing that I would like to have seen in the Sims 4, such as swimming pools and a larger variety of clothes etc. however i'm fairly sure those things will come in time. It seems to me, the original game was made to be so simplistic with the intention of adding more expansion packs than with the previous games, which I can only assume to be a way of making more money. Wouldn't you? Overall, I would say I am very pleased with the game and I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews, The Sims 4 is a smoother, tidier and all round better looking version of the Sims 3 with tons of added features and a Sim that is much more interactive than before. Please ignore all the negative comments and bad reviews, it's well worth the money! Expand

EA strikes again. No one should be surprised at this point. Ruined dead space 3 with its horrible plot and warped it into a CoD space shooter instead of a horror/scare game. They absolutely killed battlefield franchise. 3 was a disaster with its horrible netcode and 4 was no different, then they come out with hardline which is basically 100% dlc content for bf4 turned into a 59.99 standalone game, absolutely F***ING ABSURD.

EA are the worst, they might even be worse or as bad as ubisoft at this point. When EA isn't developing disasters like sim city and the sims 4 it does its part in destroying games as a publisher. How the F*** this company hasn't died off yet is a god damn universal mystery.

I was devoted to the creative elements of the previous series however, despite the fact Create a Sim has improved the actual items and textures available to decorate / furnish rooms is so limited it's almost impossible to get a truly unique look.

The game has "improved" graphics however to me it looks like plastic.

Under developed, missing features and rushed development makes this game terrible. I am taking full advantage of EA's money back refund policy and getting a refund for this terrible product.

There are many things I could list, like your sims dont have fun anymore while drawing and if you wanna sell some stuff from your inventory you have to sell EVERY SINGLE ONE, you cant just sell f.e. 20 strawberries at a stroke....Means if you wanna make money by selling your harvest it's gonna take hours.
Besides that, the game is horribly buggy and crashes all the time...
Why can't EA just FINISH a game before selling it???? That's just a bad habit!

I don't need dramatic music and huge drops in moods just cause my sim has to pee or wants a bagel. I didn't feel like I was seeing any "weird" stories occurring unless it was mine of the obsessive lady who spends all day watering 6 plants and walks funny. If I had time out of watering my plants to even be slightly social, I was always cranky because some dramatic music would play and Id have to eat or use the washroom. It felt more like a time management game I would play for free on any free gaming website with a little better graphics. I'm really not feelin' this one EA, and this is coming from someone who has previously purchased nearly every expansion for sims, sims 2 and 3. Not likely I'll put any more money into this one. Lets face a true User score here and read WHY this game earns it!

The Sims 4 to me earns a 7 out of 10 points to make the base of discussion here directly.

But why should Sims 4 be a 7 out of 10?

Well it is very easy to start with, because The Sims 4 is a standalone product. So it does not continue at a certain part of Sims 3 or tries to over-feature the 3rd part of it. It just is a new designed version, where adjustments (even bad ones) are done to change the experience.

I played Sims ever since the first Game approached the marked. And with every new Number of Sims the same thing happened:

New features were added, old features were deleted and content was built up again and filled with AddOns.
When you buy a game like Sims, you know the main content will be delivered in AddOns. It was the same in Sims 2 and 3 and it again is in Part 4. So complaining about the fact, that a fully customized Sims 3 due to addons and usercontent, has more features and content then Sims 4 is totally brainless. But okay, everyone has to judge from his own point of view. I see the Sims 4 as a typical release of a Sims title.

86 Features were cut, that they have promised or at least used in the earlier part.
One of these features is a instanciated world instead of an open world like in Sims 3. Which is technically for most people a step back, which it actually is for me too.
On the other hand, when I remember myself back 5 years ... at the release of Sims 3 ... I never used this feature. I still traveled via Map and not via walking there directly ... And I am very sure, that most people did as well.

Same to things like the swimming pool, many functional assets for the house etc.
Of course it sucks, that I have to make my character wash all dishes instead of having a dishwasher ... but I am sure that there will be more granular features with the addons in future ... even though I also hate the thoughts to by myself lots of old features with new AddOns ... but I really do not judge the overall fun of the gameplay.

Actually with all these negative points I started playing a Sim in Sims 4 without knowing about all of this ... and my experience differs a lot from the Meta average!!!

The gameplay is fluid. Sims are behaving more realistic then ever before.
Without cheating, you will be needing several days to get all assets etc. that come with the game.
But the interactions between the Sims is the point were EA did a great job this time. Spending them feelings, that really feel like they are alive in most cases makes the actual Gameplay so much fun now.

With the decision to give the Sims a multitasking ability, the whole way of the Sims life becomes more relatable then ever before. Of course you would not see anything of it, when you just cheat your characters with much money and big houses! But usually ... thats not the meaning of the Sims! If it was, they would create more of a Sanbox House Simulator then giving Sims behaviors to relate to them better. So the focus on The Sims is and has always bin on the SIMS and not the housing!

If you want to kill your Sims in a swimming pool ... well then play Sims 3 or wait till Sims 4 gets a "Garden AddOn" or whatever. But dont start pointing out 1 of 100 scores because your specific gamestyle is not currently supported in here anymore. Sims made its way to a more serious (not totally serious) Life Simulation and I am looking forward what EA brings with the AddOns and if they can completely create that new Sim feeling when they add some older features in a redesgned way to the game!

    So my final verdict:

For players of Sims 3 who own maybe several AddOns as well, this is not a must have Sims game!
The game tries to go to a little more optimized Life Sim way and misses lots of content by now that has been added in 5 years to Sims 3.

For Sims player who just want a fun Sandbox you will definitively have more fun at Sims 3 currently. Even though this fun will also cost you more then 200 Euros.

For players that either never owned a Sims game, or prefer to play Sims as a life simulation, I would definitively recommend Sims 4 as a nice game that will provide many fun!
I own all Sims parts (not AddOns) and I had great fun until now with the game. It has some little bugs, but compared to many other titles this version even comes technically solid to its release!

Aside from the Sim you are playing, they are all more mindless than ever. Sure, the emotions are entertaining but they really don't add much to the game play. Sacrificing autonomy for simulated emotions was a tradeoff I could have done without.

Content wise, I'm very pleased with the massive amount of things to build with and activities to do with your Sim. There is a ton of items to build and decorate with. The new build mode and CAS are more intuitive and powerful than ever.

Great looking game, fun game play, nice creative tools, ridiculously tiny neighborhoods with boring, lifeless npc's. All in all, worth the money but continues to show the power EA holds over once revered developer, Maxis.

Sims 4 is absolutely boring after the novelty wears off and I wasn't excited for it as much as 3, with all the missing features, it was rumoured to have been a scrapped online game concept and that would explain the lack of features. I sincerely hope that the sims 5 is incredible otherwise I will just be playing 2 and 3 into the 2020s, because besides open world that game was fun, full of content and perfect for its time. The sims 3 world graphics are waaaaay better than the sims 4s. Also the grass looks awful in 4. Very disappointed. I have devoted close to 20 hours of my life since the game came out and that is even having to work 11 hour shifts this past week. The game really draws you into your Sims. I noticed I care less about designing custom house and more of actually playing my Sims. Large house holds are more fun and easier to handle then in the Previous games. With that being sad I will say the AI in the Sims 4 is really dopy. My Sims when trying to do things on their own with out me commanding them will be very glitchy and very ignorant of what they are doing. I have had my Sims pick up a dirty plate and just move it to another room, then pick it up again and then wash it. Then the Emotion system is very cool and fun to mess with. It helps your Sims build their aspiration quicker and skills as well. Creating the sims is pretty amazing and very basic at the same time. The amount you can morph and twist is astonishing. You can create a PERFECT face if you are willing to spend the time doing so. But after you have created their face and sculpted there body...... Then it becomes very basic. There seems to be too few outfits with too few color options. I find myself accidentally putting different Sims in close to the same outfits. I have mistaken Random Sims for my Sims friends cause they are wearing the same cloths. So hope to see many new outfits come to the Sims 4 with Expansions.

Overall Playing your Sims has never been been this much fun.

Creating house is fun in the Sims 4 but at times feels like it was on the bottom of the list. It almost feels like we reverted back to the Sims 1 in some ways. There is still a lot of tools to use and you can change the color of items but only a selective choice. I really wanted to see the old Color scheme setup from the Sims 3. Don't get me wrong Making house is still a lot of fun.... But it doesn't engage me like the Older Sims games has. I keep finding myself building just a simple boxy house with what my Sims need for their daily life's and that is about it. I will say one cool new feature is the Pre-Made rooms. So now when you feel REALLY lazy just click drop and rotate into place and BAM, you gotta a themed kitchen. After doing this once or twice It does get a bit stale with so limited of choices.

Overall Creating House is cool, but not as good as it could have been

The game-play mechanics are the more engaging and frustrating things in the Sims 4. You will be constantly fixing a toilet once a day, cleaning up spoiled dishes left in weird places. Having other Sims randomly walking into you're house if you are friends, that's how friends get shot these days. There are dozens of little things that just drive you up the wall while playing the Sims 4, But this is shadowed by all the amazing things now. You can really tell Maxis/EA dumped some money into this engine. The emotion system is very well thought through. Will say at first when getting used to it, you're Sim will be acting like a PMS'ing prom queen, 900 emotions at once. But as you learn how to use it, it becomes amazing feeling. It gives you more power with you're Sims. Its always funny to watch you're angry Sim go out in the middle of the street and start yelling at a random jogger, Or just start flirting with their roommates Spouse cause they took a shower. One of the things I thought was real brilliant is conversations. Now if when you're Sims do certain things it can make or break the conversation. Skill Building and Careers has never been this much fun neither. I used to dread starting new Sims cause it felt like all I did was Work out and make friends and be stuck at my Sims house. Now You're jobs don't need lvl 10 Cooking to be good at you're job. Each job level has its own little Goals to help you get promoted. So you are no longer just stuck having to read books and star gaze to get the job you're Sims wants. The Aspiration system is just WOW. I notice myself more focus on Getting my Sims Aspiration fufilled more then I did in the Sims 2/3. Instead of just one BIG goal you have a bunch of smaller goals to achieve, then when you get done with one..... You can start another! Thats one things in older Sims games I noticed. My Sim is not the leader of the Free World..... What do I do know.... Weight Lifting time.... Then new Sim.... So very happy with the new Aspiration system

Overall the Game play is Amazing and very engaging, but should have spent more time looking at the Ignorant AI system.

The Sims 4 is missing a bunch of content that you got in Sims 2/3. We are all sad about this, but you just need to pick up the game and play it for a few hours. It took me about 3-4 hours to get really hooked.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been playing The Sims since the very first day that The Sims came out. When The Sims 2 was introduced I thought it was a step up and very enjoyable as for The Sims 3 as well. However I have to agree with majority of people who think The Sims 4 is step down and a huge disappointment. It's plain looking and flat out boring.

In The Sims 4 they really took a lot away from the game. "Bigger personalities and possibilities?" More like less traits, less personality aspects and fewer possibilities. How can the sim be weirder or have bigger personality's when you have less than 5 traits you can have, you can't have favorite music, colors, or anything like that. Also what possibilities? There is NO TRUE neighborhood or places to go and it's more like a game app with small challenges like play a game for 4 hours. How lame is that?

    Where do I began?
Starters the Main Menu sucks. It's a mess. Files for saved games? Are you kidding. I have 6 files for ONE game and I never know which one to play. When someone else gets on to play it just seems to mess up my game and start me over. Very unorganized and hard to understand and very easy to screw up other peoples saved games.

2nd sure you can make your sim super skinny or have fat legs or little feet but you can't manipulate features like on The Sims 3. Also I wish there was an actual menu for things instead of having to click on the shirt or pants to view the clothes. They took away a lot of stuff too like favorites and the color wheel, ect.

When in build/buy mode I find it very hard to use or find things and the tools are all scattered. Again its a mess. And don't get me started about how hard and annoying it is to scroll and rotate around the screen to view the house or sims.

When playing the game there's nothing to really do besides pee, eat, and sleep. There is nothing to see, go to, or any true challenges to accomplish or fun task to do. Even gardening is stupid now. There is no collecting things either as far as I know of.
My sims only seem to need to pee!!!!!! I can't even experience everything without it going half way to the needs then going down as quick as a blink of an eye after the half way point. And what's up with the needs being some random box that's annoying at the corner of the screen blocking the side view?

You can't even edit your town or get a bigger lot or place lots. EVERTHING IS SO LIMITED!!!!!!! You can't even move a house you like to a bigger lot. Another big thing that got me is no toddlers. Really? This is A LIFE GAME. It's about raising a family and taking care of them. I agree with a lot of people, this game is more like Sims 2.5! IF YOU MAKE A GAME YOU SHOULD ONLY ADD TO IT NOT TAKE EVERY SINGLE MAJOR THING AWAY FROM IT. SMH. IM VERY UPSET TO HAVE WASTED 80 BUCKS ON THIS GAME.

I think that Sims 4 is a scam...
I think that the bare bones of the game is given with the initial release so that you have to purchase the expansion packs that are to come, which will have more options of course. Very disappointed with the fact that you have to load between neighborhoods, something that they probably wont change.

    Positive:

    + better Build Mode
    + better Graphics
    + better Performance

    Mixed:

+- Character Editor slightly better but without much color choices

    Negative:

    - Emotion system seems simple/dull
    - missing Features/Content (Pools, Toddlers, etc.)
    - Loading Screens everywhere
    - no real Neighborhood (this is a big step backwards...)

I would not pay more than 10$ for this crap, there are early access games out there that are better polished than this game.

Too many Loading screens for freaking everything, breaks immersion completely and almost no content, shame on you EA Games for forcing developers to make **** incomplete garbage games because of your retarded influence.

Tiny maps, load screens, lack of features, price gouging, lack of choice... This game has it all.

I don't know who is running the once great EA, but they're driving it into the ground. They have pulled a Sim City 2013 with this product, and lost what little faith I still had for them. It's as though they just don't care.

Funny thing about this game. They stuffed it up that much that when I took it back to EB games for a refund. I Returned home to delete it and accidently double clicked it and the game started playing. So you don't need the disc to play The Sims 4. Not that I'll be playing it anyways. I'd rather play The Sims 1. but I've resorted back to The Sims 3 :)

I'd like to start by saying I love the game. I got Sims 1 when it first came out and I haven't missed a release since (skipped an expansion or two). There are two types of people who wrote reviews about the Sims 4. There are people who are disappointed because they don't have everything they want, and there are those who can see where the game is headed. To me, the good outweigh the bad.

    Bad:
-Have to load every lot, even your next door neighbor. (This actually makes all load times faster).
-Some things that have been in the core games have been left out. [Pools, basements, dishwashers]
    -Fewer color options
-Slow, monetized release of material via DLC. The Sims 3 did this. Sims 2 did this. Every Call of Duty does this now. If you want a long lasting, ever expanding game universe, expect to pay for it. It's the norm in modern video games.

    Good:
-Incredibly intuitive character creation. Easy and effective.
-Emotions give more options and create more thinking about your actions.
-The whole game is more flavorful, and this mostly centers around the emotions and how emotional states will change everyday things (ex: Pee like a champion).
-Load times are about 3x faster than Sims 3 (see above)

Overall: I can see why people are complaining. But I can see the skeleton that EA Maxis built, and it's going to be able to hold the weight of the project they are building. It's going to be great.

Another note: If I can put 20 hours into just one family so far, I know I'm going to get my money's worth from this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. EA, What Are You Doing!?

I'll start off by summing my grievances up really quick: the best features of The Sims 4 could have simply been patched into The Sims 3. Better controls in Create-A-Sim, the new Build Mode, the Multi-tasking, the Emotions are interesting and desirable features. Upgrades and patches at best. Not worth the years of hype and excitement and certainly not worth $60-$80 users have been paying for a bare bones letdown. (All of these scores of 10-8 I've been seeing? I'll generously assume that you're unfamiliar with The Sims games 1-3 or you're just being Sweethearts. Just a sweet heart doesn't get the truth out to EA. Call me Crucial, but a 3 is way too high a score.)

Why does Origin have so much control over product I worked and paid for? Why do I HAVE to be on-line to play a game I used to play off-line!? I want the option to do either. On days with really bad weather, sometimes I played The Sims because I couldn't get online. Sometimes when I would travel, I would whip out my notebook to pass some time because there was No Internet Access. I spent $80+ so you can tell me when I can and can't play? Are you Serious? If that's not supposed to be the case then my game has a serious bug.

I can't explore the World because there is no "World". Just lots that are so limited and small, the game is empty. There is no challenge to get to the "cool jobs" so the cool jobs aren' t cool, just cheesy. The game is so kiddie now. (Mommy, that's what I want to do when I grow up! Make a Mess, just like EA!) Jobs like Astronaut and Secret Agent should be over-the-top rewards for progressing, right? Something rare that not everyone chooses to reach for, so its special.

    HMMM.... What Else Is Missing?
The Styling Tool everyone is addicted to! Where's the creative freedom?!
No Toddlers? I really LIKED the Toddlers so don't get me started. Doesn't seem like you can create an actual lineage. (Even if you could, where would you put them?) I even wasted money on the Official Game Guide. Get this Readers: you don't catch the carpool to work, you transport and sit bored until your Sim returns. You can't even look at their needs. I don't even see cars and bikes for individual families. Another Stuff Pack. Anyway, you don't have to go to any stores for recipes, food, books or music. (I don't want my Sim to have THAT much convenience! I Want to get them out of the house for that. At least make my loners shop online! They're Sims, as in "simulation" of humans, right? Charge them S&H like us! No, I take that part back...) Anyway, no more classes for skills, no movies, no concerts, no ball games, no swimming in pools, beaches,or oceans; no diners and restaurants, no variety in night life or work life. Even the Repo Man and Burglars are out of the picture. (I LIKED sending my Sim to have a night on the town and running in to relatives accidentally. I enjoyed hubby beating up the burglar and getting extra WooHoo. Letting Snobbish former-rich Sims feel the pain of poverty as the Repo Man dawns their doorstep is funny. I think if you don't pay your bills in the game, the power should shut off like in The Sims 4. If you wait too long you Still should face the Repo Man.) The game is totally stripped. Just change the name so The Sims franchise can save face.

If I wanted to play a sucky version of The Sims 2, I wouldn't have bought The Sims 3 AND the down-loadable content (dlc) AND the expansion packs AND the stuff packs. The Sims 2 had more features starting off than this sorry excuse for entertainment anyway.

Obviously, this lack of content and piss poor game play is a ploy to grossly exploit consumers as EA milks our pockets by charging big bucks for expansion packs, stuff packs, and dlc. It's business, I get it. At least make the game so intriguing and fun that we can't wait for the next package and download instead of frustrating so many people. I agree with CypherDivine:

"Used to be "EA games, challenge everything" now it's "EA games, charge everything" "

I have enjoyed The Sims 1-3 since I was a kid. A preteen, actually. Now as I try to climb a career to increase my meager income to something I consider to be "gainful", I don't enjoy wasting my money. If I get something, its because I think it will be good and I'll enjoy it for a while.

Again Readers, The Game Is Not Worth $60-$80! In comparison to it's predecessors, its worthless. So before charging us consumers for endless "packs" and downloads, I wish EA would do something about it. Unlikely, huh? I want to tell EA, what are you doing? Even though I doubt EA will ever see this, I hope someone will take note. I never heard of MetaCritic until I felt like searching to see if others felt like I did. I made this account just to let anyone who can do anything know how dissatisfied and disgusted I am. I'm actually more insulted than anything. At this moment EA and The Sims 4 has really put a bad taste in my mouth.

So I wanted to get a refund :) After 2 days.. no refund.

I want to point out a key point 'whichever comes first' in the policy. Which means if you want your TS4 to be refunded you shouldn't have launched it at all in your pc otherwise you can only within 24 hrs.

Or so I was told. Because as a not 1st language English speaker missed that "whichever comes first" point or not quite understood its meaning.

So I am forced to remove my good review. It is a good beta/base game for more expansions to come and make it a game . It's a beta and I would avoid it for now or maybe avoid EA forever.

Omitting toddlers - when many players were asking for more life stages - is simply inexcusable. Switching back to loading screens feels like a big step back. And decorating your Sims' clothes and houses is aggravating when you can't even choose from a decent selection of colours. While there is a lot to do in the game, much of it feels like busywork. You'll be constantly telling your Sims to perform actions to offset their negative emotions or performing repetitive actions to get your Sims skilled up or ready for job promotions. Or you can always collect things... lots of things. In one of the most egregious examples of content padding, TS4 is packed with collectibles.

Still, it can only get better. Wait until the price drops or they include the first expansion pack for free and you won't be quite as disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As an avid Sims fan from its humble beginnings way back in 2000, I've decided, rather than judging it just as a sequel to Sims 3, I'm just going to give my thoughts on Sims 4 for what it is at this time, and in a nutshell.

    Pros:
    - Stunning Music (for once. Sims 2,3's music were unbearable at times)
    - New improved and easy peasy designing and building. (You will love it!)
    - Good looking if slightly cartoony graphics.
    - Multi-tasking! (Finally, your sim can watch tv, have a cup of coffee and have a chat with a nearby sim, all at once)
    - Streamlined performance.
    - Interesting new take on emotions and how they affect your Sims and other Sims.
    - Awesome new Create-a-Sim.
    - Lots and lots of individual skills to be learned.

    So far so good right?

    Cons:
    - Insanely priced for what it offers! ($60 for the standard edition? that is a little greedy EA..)
    - No Open World (Sims 1-2 style loading screens and travel options are back...)
    - No "Normal" Jobs (No police, medicine, business or military careers are available or even present in the game..why!?)
    - Only 2 services available (Maids and Pizza delivery...repair or replace yourself it seems)
    - No Create a Style (If you liked this feature of the Sims 3, sorry to disappoint you.)
    - Limited places to visit (park, nightclub, gym etc.)
    - No Toddlers or pools (but I suppose you knew this already)

In Summary - It feels like this Sims game has become less creative and yet not so...Building and designing has been improved, yet not in a very in-depth kinda way. If you loved Create-A-Style, Open Worlds and a much more in-depth experience, Stick to Sims 3. If you want to experience an HD "Sims 2" version of the game with a few new gameplay features and design capabilities, try Sims 4, if you have the money for it...Maybe when all those inevitable expansion packs come out, the game would improve...but that would have to be seen to be believed.

Having read various reviews and reflections, but being a massive fan of The Sims series I thought I'd still give the game a pop, but treat it less like a sequel of The Sims 3, and more as a standalone game in it's own right to stave off disappointment. Whilst there are many positive features of The Sims 4 (love the effect of emotions, the art, the depth of skills, highly-engaging new objects, more morally lax Sims, having mixology bars in the base game) there are quite a few issues with it asides from the ones previously highlighted, i.e.:-

    - Just to move from lot to lot requires a refresh screen, and this gets dull quickly. As the neighbourhoods are divided into districts (with fixed places to put your lot, a departure from the Open Worlds of Sims 3 where you could bung a lot anywhere) I would expect the refresh screen to appear if I was travelling to a new district. That would be fine. However a refresh screen appears even if you visit a neighboring lot, or any of the lots within the district that your Sim resides. Very tedious.

    - I have a decent new laptop with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 860m graphics card. It's no beast but it's pretty good. I found that the game started to lag pretty badly if you tried to play it extensively. What is the point of having a close-world base game with a lag issue? It's the worst of both Sims 2 and Sims 3 worlds.

    - The controls are not intuitive. For example you have to jump through hoops to save an existing household, or move select members of your household elsewhere.

    - The lack of story progression is a pity. I like to see my Sim neighbourhood naturally evolve, and I don't particularly like to manage this.

    - Some features seem broken or lack interactions that are fundamental to game play. Anyone playing the Sims 4 knows what I mean. This makes it feel rather clunky and half-baked.

    - The game crashed a lot for me. For example if I tried to marry Sims it would crash. Maybe my sim was too commitment-phobic for her own good after all.

    - The lack of a creature is disappointing. I really like the fantasy element of the Sims.

    - You have to micromanage your Sims so much more. I.e. in The Sims 3 you could choose to have your Sim going fishing for an hour, or after they caught five fish. There were similar time limitations you could put on other interactions. Now this is removed, which means you have to closely guard your Sims and cancel interactions to get them to move onto the next task in the interaction queue.

    - I don't like the mouse only controls for Create-A-Sim. Each to their own but I sometimes found it difficult to mold a sim as I wanted them.

    - The Sims now seem stupider rather than more intelligent. A Sim just dozily watching their house burn down (especially as there are no firemen in the game) or choosing to eat on someone's bed rather than an empty dining room table is not a smart simmie. I know this is billed as the new and exciting 'weird' behaviour, but it just seems like there is something missing in the AI.

    - The teenagers look like adults. Both confusing and feels a bit lazy.

Actually the first time I have been disappointed with a Sims base game so very early. Like many have said before, it is clearly half-finished and obviously the result of EA breathing down the neck of the developers to get the game to market earlier than it was clearly ready. An extra 6 months and I am sure the game could have been something polished. For me to like this game the bugs/lag need to be fixed, at least within districts it should be possible to openly navigate between lots, and some story progression would be good. Otherwise given that I no longer want to play the game and I only bought it Thursday, the series is over for me.

I owned The Sims 2 + Expansions, but only TS3 & 1 expansion pack, but there were 11 main ones in total. A lot of fans have said TS4 is a step backwards. A lot of fans have said TS4 is a step backwards. I can understand why they're saying it, but I don't think it's true. I think if you bought all of TS3 expansions, going back to a base game is going to seem incredibly limited. They're obviously not going to have EVERYTHING in a base game because they want to expand and make money off the whole franchise. I think they have pushed it a little too far however by removing swimming pools, dishwashers, garbage disposals and toddlers. I don't miss them personally, but to remove certain items from a base game that were in previous base games seems a bit ridiculous and milking it for all it's worth. Someone has called it The Sims 1 HD, and that seems relatively accurate.

I think you have to compare base game to base game, to get a feel for the development of the franchise and to give a fair comparison, and to be fair, there are some good developments. Create a Sim is incredibly easy and user friendly. There's a decent amount of choice for hair styles etc. and you can adjust body parts by clicking on them and dragging them to get it to your desired proportion. The only thing that TS3 had was a colour wheel which allowed so much variety, which has been removed. That's a shame, but it may have been a lot for the game to handle. Similarly, build mode has never been easier. In the bottom left corner if you search by room it gives you a little diagram of a standard room that you've clicked, and you click on the items in it to get the options up. If you're searching for something in-particular, there's a search bar for you to type it in so it crops up. Such a simple yet effective feature. You can also see pre styled set up rooms. If you like that style in its entirety, you can drop the whole room design in, buying everything in it. If you only like certain things, you click them and drop them in. I'd say there's enough choice to create different styles in different houses. I love the new 'clutter' category to drop in knick knacks that you do have in homes.

The sims moods and interactions are much more advanced. They can multi task, eating while watching TV and chatting on the sofa etc. Their mood changes frequently during the day and they want to do tasks based on that mood, and certain interactions will appear with people based on the mood they have. You can even 'take an angry poop' if you're mad or 'pee like a champion' if you're confident, which I thought was hilarious. The energy and development seems to be in the sims interactions/movements which takes time to recognise, but the overwhelming negativity is stemming from what people notice is visibly missing straight away.

The camera is slightly difficult to navigate, but there is a feature that specifically says if you liked TS3's camera, you can change it to that. But it seems to chop and change with its controls but I think it's a question of getting used to it.

The neighbourhood is where a lot of TS3 users are finding it difficult to adjust. The Sims 3 was one big, open world. You could go anywhere in that world and watch your sim drive there. The sims 4 has segregated neighbourhoods (like Sims 2 I think?). You have to pick one for your sims to move to. Once you're there, you can see that neighbourhood beyond your house and visit neighbours, but it comes with a loading screen if you're leaving your current lot. It's a bit annoying, but it only lasts a few seconds and I don't see it a huge thing to grumble about. I think it has more loading screens (little waiting time, more often) than TS3. When that loaded, it did take a very long time. Currently as well, there are very little community lots. There's a museum, a gym, a bar and a nightclub. I would have liked to have seen more, but again this is probably going to be in future expansion packs. At least there's something, but at the moment I'm disappointed you can't go shopping for clothes etc. Your sim can 'change appearance' at the mirror using any of the clothing you have in the game, where before it was fun to have your sim earn money and buy clothes from the shops, so not everyone had the same outfit choices.

All in all, it's still enjoyable and I think it has huge potential but I think personally you have to consider purchasing it based on what previous games you liked. If you loved TS3 and it's expansions, this will seem very limited. If you liked TS2, it's an upgraded version of that. I think the graphics are good (not that cartoony as some have said) and it does run very smoothly, if you have a PC that can handle the required specs. I just hope EA don't be very specific with it's expansions. I want a lot more features to come in 1 pack, and not leave us waiting for specific things for a long time. Considering the backlash from hardcore fans, they may need to reconsider what they're going to offer in the future TS4 games and for what price.

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
