I can't say I'm too surprised to see the ratings of this game. I have played the Sims since the first game and with every new main entry (not expansion pack or spin-off) there's always been enough improvements to blow me away. After nearly 3 years the Sims 3 is still my preferred Sims game. We have had a few expansions for the Sims 4, but even they're shallow. I.e. Get to Work does not have anywhere near as much content as Ambitions did for the Sims 3 and there is literally NO comparison between City Living for the Sims 4 and the fantastic Late Night for the Sims 3. This has now convinced me that the problem with Sims 4 is in its foundations and is inherent to the game itself and no amount of DLC will be able to make up for the inherent problems of no open world, no story progression (other families getting married, promoted, having kids etc), no Create a Style, where you could change the colour and textures of anything.

Yes, we have toddlers, pools and ghosts now but those are minor details compared to the huge inherent aspects which were lost from the Sims 3. The Sims 4 still feels rushed and unfinished.

In my opinion, overall, it is such a shame that the Sims 4 exists, especially in such a popular franchise. Maybe this has helped EA to come to their senses that they can't continue to scam us out of our money just because the Sims is so popular globally. The only people I find who love the Sims 4 are those who are playing it as their first Sims game. You know what I tell those people? Play Sims 3; it's much better.

There ARE elements to the Sims 4 that are good such as the emotion system and updated graphics from the Sims 3. Sims seem more alive and I have to be honest I did legit enjoy my first few days with it. But after the magic wore off, I started to get bored... REAL bored. Everything feels like its made out of cardboard. Yeah, pretty to look at but no substance there. I'm not in a town, I'm in a house with a picture of a town in the background. Those arnt cars going by, that's not a train rolling down the tracks, its just window dressing. its all fake and it does NOTHING. I also have to admit that I kept hearing certain sim fans saying that its not fair to compare the sims 4 to any sims 3 expansion because its a base game. To that I say I DO in fact compare many aspects of the sims 4 to every part of the sims 3 because I PAID for all that **** I spend hundreds of dollars on all those expansions over the years starting with the Sims 1 and I would at least expects a FEW things from previous expansions to be in 4 like weather, or pets, or anything else that I already paid Maxis for 3 times already. This game isn't a step forward, its not even a step sideways, its a giant step back. I give the Sims 4 a few points for entertaining me with what it did right but in the end, Its not worth it. Go play the Sims 3. Expand

However, EA's horrible tactic of releasing overpriced expansion packs is still infuriating. Expand

There are just so many choices which i can't imagine were approved by a brain-equipped creature. The same like with sim city, they wanted a reboot but got destroyed by the concurrence (cities skyline) which was better in simply every single imaginable way. Shame on you Maxis, you are trying to make games for everyone but are forgetting about the people which fed you by buying your games!

Sims 4 is a nice game, as long as the player is new or just a player that does not expect it to be like Sims 3 and better.

Most reviews on here that are negative, are from players that when they got in their hands the initial game, were disappointed to see that a lot of things were changed and in a way downgraded. By now Sims players knows that Sims 4 is more like a new version of Sims 2, rather than of Sims 3. The open-world part of the game was removed and now even if you want to visit a neighbor, you have to wait for a load screen. The map is split in neighborhoods, with each neighborhood having a couple of different buildings (houses and shops), but no matter what, you will see a loading screen when you even go to the next door house. I feel that is the biggest change from Sims 3 to Sims 4, indeed making it feel like Sims 2.

I have no idea why people seem to find weird, the direction of Sims 4 being heavy DLC oriented. Sims 3 was and is THE game most people use a joke, when it comes to expansions and DLC and how games sell basic functions, along with some content. If someone went to buy all the content of Sims 4 from the Origin store right now, they would spend about 270 euro. It still has wait to catch up to the 580 euro cost of Sims 3 and all it's expansions.

As a game I find it really nice and enjoyable. Sims can multitask, which I think it's the best point of it and you can see them squeeze close to others and move between others. I always hated how in SIms 3 and before, it felt like Sims were taking a large square around them, making it impossible for anyone else to pass. Now they move more fluidly.

But always keep in mind; this is a downgrade from Sims 3. Even if the mechanics and physics work better, everything else feels lacking. It has some details lacking, that will make you feel like something goes wrong and it is missing. Like for example there is not firemen anymore and for the lack of firefighters, they added a second fire alarm that has sprinklers.

Of course It has to be pointed out that even after 2+ years, the game is very buggy and at times I feel it is more buggy than Sims 3. Then again, there are not more pathfinding problematic maps.. since there are no maps in general.

Really mixed feelings on Sims 4, when compared to Sims 3, but when compared to Sims 2, the game is great.

I just, I just, I just tried so hard to enjoy this game. But after 10 minutes, I fall asleep. Nothing is taking me on, the game just seems so bland and lifeless. I have played Sims 1 and I can say with certainty it is far better than this. I just don't know what happened, but its terrible. I have played Sims 2 for a short time and that surpasses this game too. Somethings wrong with this game.

For instance, they don't have toddlers like they had in the sims 3 and they don't have some expansions that they had in the previous games, but there will be more to come in the future. I love how the Create-a-sim is different and all they new things like that were included in the game. The fixed the horrendous, purposefully bad (they do this to get you to buy the next Sims game) load times of the Sims 3!

Not a horrible game, but the problem with The Sims 4 is that The Sims 3 and 2 came before - and they're better.
    First the pros:

    - The graphics are beautiful, the sims are more cartoony but they don't have that pudding face they suffered from in TS3. But it is a cartoony art style, keep that in mind
    - Multitasking is fun and allows for more realistic simulation. You can watch TV on the treadmill while talking to your friends.
    - The emotions are a new feature, but I find them a mixed bag. One one side, they make the sims more vivid, but on the other, they make all of them react the same way to everything. It is a neat feature, nonetheless.
    - The game is more stable and easier on computers than TS3.

    The cons:
    - There is no toddler life stage (babies go directly to a child and are confined to the crib), teens, young adults, adults and elders all have the same height
    - The are no Create-a-Style or Create-a-Pattern tools, meaning you cannot customize objects and clothes like before. All you can do is choose from premade options by the developers. No way to customize hair or eye color either, you can only choose from the options they give.
    - The world is closed, there is no open world. The base game comes with two worlds, each containing some neighbourhoods inside, witharound 3-5 lots inside each. Your sim can walk freely inside these neighbourhoods, but cannot freely visit the lots. That means: if you want to visit your neighbour's house, close by your house, you have to go through a loading screen.
    - The worlds are also 100% fixed, meaning they are not editable in any sort of way. In TS2, wqe could add and move lots arounds, add neighbourhood decorations as we pleased. In TS3, the worlds were also almost completely editable, and there are hundreds of custom player-created world to download. In The Sims 4, you can't even move the lots. You can't touch the world. And there is no tool to create a new one. So if you want to create new worlds for your stories, well, you won't.
    - Sims now have only 3 trait slots, ands the selection of traits is pretty limited. Also, traits feel very watered down and sims don't usually behave like their traits say they should. Mostly, the way they behave is overcome by the emotions system, making every sim feel less unique.

Overall, I think this game is really mediocre. It was a very disappointing experience for me; it isn't horrible, but it isn't good and there are barely any features in it that make it more worth buying than The Sims 3 or 2. As of now, there's been 2 years since the base game launched, and the expansions and stuff packs released didn't do anything to change the cons I've pointed. So, I wouldn't recomend this game. I say, go buy TS3 and skip TS4.

I think it's harsh that some critics say there is violence in the game. There is no blood, nothing is broken and (my personal feeling) fights are extremly rare and again, look comic.

The Create-a-Sim is very intuitive and super easy to use, the emotions are a great game mechanic (I actually didn't know that they haven't been in a Sims game up until now), and creating homes is surprisingly simple, which is very high praise coming from me.

Yes, there are areas in which this game could be improved (make it a bit more open, for one), and yes, you may get bored after a while and have to use mods to make it better, but come on, people, this isn't worth a 0. This isn't worth anywhere from a 0-5. As a newcomer to The Sims series, I'm giving this a 9.

Nearly two years later, my initial optimism and intrigue into TS4 has been quelled. The expansion and stuff packs have not helped.

TS4 is visually beautiful but gameplay feels redundant and less progressive than previous games. TS4 was overly ambitious as it fails to build on former Sims games strengths.

I remember The Sims and The Sims 2, every expansion pack was an event that I couldn't wait to happen, I wanted to see all the content and interactions. At the beginning of The Sims 3 it was quite the same, until EA carried with them all the expectations, but I assumed it was because of me more than because of EA, because I was growing and all, so when The Sims 4 was announced I didn't care. I wanted it to happen, but not with the same expectations as The Sims 2 or The Sims 3. What happened? My sister went to the creator's camp, and came back with so much enthusiasm that caught me right away. The game was released and I bought it immediately. The Sims 4 Digital Deluxe costed me 45 dollars. It was incredible, but you sit down to play and you see that bit by bit you get more bored. Then the expansion packs, stuff packs and new game packs began to be announced and released. It was no big deal with Outdoor Retreat or Get to Work, they were not bad, but then you sit down to play Get to Work and you get bored easily and you can see so many bugs. After that the beautiful idea of the stuff packs started. Luxury Party was unnecessary, we already had a bunch of party stuff in many of the base game editions. Perfect Patio is a bit better because the stuff, although it's a small amount, it's a better quality. Then EA released Spa Day, that is a game pack and in general terms, it's ok. Cool Kitchen is that expansion pack that never had to be released. The 20 different ice cream topics are no more than different colors. When it was released you couldn't put the ice cream in the fridge (giant WTF), and the fact that every spoon of ice cream they eat they complain that they brain freezes is inadmissible. Get Together is a little bit of parties (mooore parties), the clubs and nothing more. Spooky, Movie Hangout and Romantic Garden: the packs that I didn't know that existed until this March. In only almost 2 years they released 6 stuff packs, I bought 3 of them, and only one is good. If someone asks me "Is it good to buy The Sims 4?" I will tell them that they should, because the base game is still ok, but not to buy all of the expansion packs. Because besides, they added an unnecessary and annoying button that appears out of nowhere only to make you remember that you don't have all the packs. Be selective, don't buy everything just to have anything. Do you really need Cool Kitchen or Get Together? Outdoor Retreat: Did you enjoy Vacation, Bon Voyage or World Adventures? Then buy it. Anyways, I can decide for you. I only recommend you that, because if you buy all the packs you will see all the money you lost in a good for nothing pack, and I hope EA does something good, because they are doing almost everything wrong with the game. For what it's worth, I believe the base game is worth the base game's price. You get hundreds or maybe thousands of hours of entertainment with great graphics, great gameplay that's simple but offers a ton of possibilities. The two major expansions are worth their asking price with all that they add as well. I haven't yet purchased the smaller packs.

If you're a fan of the Sims franchise, I wholly recommend this as the best of the bunch. I have not regretted any money I've spent on anything Sims.

Nope, just can't give it a positive review - after several years, the game is STILL a mess with rampant bugs and glitches, some of which are still fairly game-breaking or review constant fixing/repairing in order to fix, sometimes the bugs just break the saves completely causing tons of game time to be lost.

Still lacking tons of features and options from previous games, the neighborhoods are still WAY too small for builders, the 21 lot limit more or less makes each world feel so cramped and tiny that any legacy families have to be killed off just so you have room for newer generations - and lets face it, no one wants their prized sim to die especially after working on them for a long time, building relationships/families and stats...

I could easily say that any simmer who hasn't purchased the game so far, really should just ignore this version and go back to Sims 3 and hopefully this hasn't ruined the chances for a Sims 5 at some point in the next 5 years...yeah...it'll take that long as EA drains Maxis for expansion after expansion which is usually around 10 - 12 expansions before they start the process over again.

Sure the game has a few good things going for it, but its got so many issues and missing elements compared to the previous games that the good parts just never really shine bright enough and with the several years since its launch it still hasn't really progressed that much, some of the expansion packs haven't really been able to make the game that much better and I will say that, if the Sims 4 originally launched with all the current content back in 2014 then the game would have scored better but lets face it - so much content was cut its just not even funny - but again...its EA so its to be expected.

In this game, they upgraded their style. Instead of going for a realistic style, as in the Sims 3, they turned it into a bright, shiny cartoon look. While this may be eye candy, the point of the Sims franchise is to simulate the real world in a video game. Without that touch of realism, it doesn't FEEL real, and looks more like a Spongebob episode. Another subtraction to this game would have to be the full world access. They removed full world access, so you can only pick where you would like to go. They also removed advanced customization for your Sim, leaving you with fewer options than before. They also removed MANY free things in the Sims 3 and turned them into a $20.00 expansion pack.

One of the only things I found interesting (and somewhat better) in the Sims 4 was the ability to click and drag the Sim's features in CAS (Create A Sim) mode, rather than using a slider. Although, they promised that you would be able to make your Sim look like whoever you desire. Sadly, this isn't true.

This game has made me give up on the sims entirely. I spent the price of a full game for something that feels like a demo. Maybe after all the expansion packs are out it will feel more like an actual game. Of course since this is EA you will have to pay hundreds of dollars just to make it play like a 50-60 dollar game.

Expansion packs and DLCs are overpriced. Base game is empty, world is boring, tons of important BASIC things are missing. Such a disappointment. Congrats EA for showing us your true colors.

So all in all, I do not recommend buying this game. Play with Sims 2 or 3, at least those are still awesome.

I love how each sim feels very unique and actually have a personality, if you give them certain traits their personality and choices reflect that without your input unlike sims 3 where every sim felt like exactly the same and required your input to progress them.

I love that the neighborhood is segmented into different areas so the game overall runs extremely smooth and my fps never drops even if their is a huge party with tons of sims. My load screens only last 3 or 4 seconds so no complaints about that.

I am extremely hopeful that Maxis will introduce expansion packs to expand the seasons and the generations so I can watch my sims grow up and go to school live an entire life cycle, that's the only thing that the game is missing in my opinion.

Sims 4 is a huge step forward in the core mechanics, graphics, and A.I. but it also lost all of its previous expansions and content but the game will continue to grow and improve with time.

Maybe even getting to choose their walk( though it is affected by mood). The chance to run your own retail business seems interesting (but you need so much money to do that, it seems like an impossible dream). But in many ways the actual gameplay feels like a step backwards. The Sims 3 has a much more free-flowing feel to it. And the ability to move anywhere in your town (and watch them do so) feels far better than having to sit through load-screens whenever you go past the end of the block. I wish some of the innovations had been added to The Sims 3, via one of the many updates. I much prefer The Sims 3 and will probably stick with it. I do like that Aspirations are not set in stone (unlike Life Time Wishes) and that you can give them new Aspirations when the have completed their currant one; or change easily at any time. But on the whole I am rather disappointed with the entire feel of the game. It feels more like The Sims 2, with a few innovations. Which is a shame. Expand

Along with many, many, many expansion packs and stuff packs I have purchased over the course of many years. In a lot of ways Sims 4 is akin to Sims 2, normally there'd be nothing wrong with going back to the roots, but in this case I didn't expect them to take away everything from the game that made the Sims 3 so incredible. It disappointed me in the worst way. There was... so much they could have done for the Sims 4 that would have made it far surpass its predecessors. Instead, it chose to ignore all the great things of 3 and simply went back to a new, better version of 2. If the Sims 4 had the flexibility in design, in everything, that the 3 does... they would have had an extreme bestseller on their hands. When 4 was first introduced I was soooo excited. I was excited for the new graphics, for the more humanization of the Sims; I was thrilled. And then I got the game as a gift and couldn't wait to play it. I think the new owners of this game unintentionally set themselves up for failure, and it breaks my heart a little bit because I hold this game so near and dear. If they had combined Sims 3 with 4... well I think this game could have been brought up to #1. Perhaps Sims 5 (if there is one) will hold up to my high standards that I hold for this game, simply because I am and always shall be a Simmer. Maybe an expansion pack would solve all the problems I have. It probably would, if the game-makers ever decided to make one like that. Expand

The furniture itself is quite unrealistic itself, It's just something you don't see ever. I know they're trying to go with a more cartoonish theme here but I just couldn't get into it.

+ Create-a-Sim is the game's astounding feature. The dragging type modeling makes recreating your ideal celebrity very easy. Clothes being sorted by style and type make picking outfits easier. New things like walking styles give your Sims more character. Traits on the other hand, are less complex.

    - Open world is something of the past, as it, yet again, is a step back, because of loading screens.

    - Graphics.... Don't get me started. Previous games were quite impressive the time of their release.. But then there's Sims 4.

    - Gameplay is very repetitive and doesn't have me playing for long.

In final, I wouldn't recommend this game, personally. Creativity is a must for me and seeing how so many things took a step back, absolutely killed it for me. I find The Sims 2 better than this one, which I find to be very sad.

The Short story, not worth retail price, pick it up on sale instead. It is a good game, not a great game.

    Longer more in-depth:

    Positives:

    - Create-A-Sim is by far the best ever, hands down.

    - The game runs like a dream, no frame drops or slowdowns from the 20 hours I've put in so far unlike Sims 3 which would start to slog. I don't have an impressive machine, a 3 and a half year old laptop with i7 2.3ghz processor, 8gb of ram and 2gb GT630m gaphics chip, good but outdated now, and this game runs smooth with near max visuals.

    - Managing multiple households is back from Sims 2, and its very nice to switch between families and keep control when you're really getting into the personal storytelling.

    - Sim interactions are extremely well done, Emotions are interesting, sims can finally multitask, idle animations feel more authentic.

    - The gallery is awesome and convenient, so adding lots and/or households is very efficient, no more quitting the game and relaunching.

    - Babies aren't as annoying and have more interactions, and sims don't just leave them on the floor now that they're attached to the crib thing.

-The multiple worlds being able to interact with each other, fluidly feels amazing.

    - Load times are not bad.

    Negatives:

    - Load times are annoying, end up staying at home more often then leaving.

    - Lack of open world makes you lose visibility and continuity feel of Sims 3. The neighbourhood system is a good idea, as it strains your PC less as the game world matures compared to Sims 3, but the neighbourhoods should have been open world within themselves, its odd to be able to walk down your street, only to have to go through a loading screen if you want to visit a neighbour.

    - Career choices feels lackluster so far.

    - Toddlers not being included is awkward, not missed too much, but very awkward...

    - Babies are just objects in all honesty, they have always been, but now its super obvious.

    - Navigating build/buy mode is a little odd to adapt to.

    - No Create-A-Style is annoying.

    - My biggest issue has been the lack of Story Progression. Non-controlled Sims age and interact. But don't marry, have kids or so on. Hell, of the 15 kids I've seen, 11 are from my Sim knocking up everyone, 4 are from the Gallery! There is a mod to correct this, much like NRASS mods for Sims 3, so I remedied that situation.

    - The sheer number of expansions, game packs and stuff packs within 1 year and 3 months is absurd, there are 9 in total!!!! At least they're priced a bit better than before (still not worth the cost though)

So overall, the game is solid, but has WAY too much to improve. I have been enjoying it thoroughly, but I'd say not to buy it unless its on sale, I picked it up for 60% off, that pricing is much better than retail and I'd say equals its value more or less.

Also when I want my sim to do something (e.g. gardening), they often just decide to do something completely different, which is time wasting and especially annoying when you have a large family and are trying to make several sims build skills at once. Pros - Many improvements over The Sims 3. Better graphics, smooth camera movement, switching between build mode and Live mode is almost instantaneous. Many more options when in conversations

Cons - Hideously expensive! $40 bucks for 3 extra jobs? Really? Pretty sure they intentionally skimped on the base game to gouge us with DLC. This is not appreciated and this will affect future purchases if you're listening EA! However, The Sims has always been very expensive so any veteran knows what we're getting into by purchasing it. Towns also seem smaller but I'm sure EA will be happy to sell us expansions at a premium.

If you have the money, this is a very fun experience and a decent improvement over The Sims 3. I think many people are rating this game based on the The Sims 3 with a dozen expansions and that is not a fair comparison. I understand as I had most of the Sims 3 expansions. So far, I'm glad I made the change.

Unfortunately things have gotten worse in the nearly 14 months since the games release, not better. Certain things like pools and ghosts were eventually added back into the game free of charge, but the attitudes of the Sims Team after they did so was so unattractive and unlikable that it turned me off to the game even more. They acted like they were going out of their way to give these "free" things to paying customers, when in reality those were things that should have been in the base game to begin with.
And now the game is being over-saturated with constant "game-packs" that offer little content, even for only 10 USD, and a half-baked work expansion was released earlier this year that both everyone wanted, yet offered only three new interactive jobs. And lets be real here, how many times are you going to play through each job? Once? Twice maybe? And, again, there are only three new jobs so people ran out of things to do with that expansion after a few weeks.
Everything about the current direction that the Sims seemed half-assed to me. I, along with many other fans, feel like there is no connection to the game, no connection to the creators, no passion. It's a mess. It's superficial and lacking content even after a YEAR. I doubt Sims 4 lifespan will be four-five years like previous sims games. Hopefully a Sims 5 will come out, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Sims team is bleeding money at this point and can't afford to make a Sims 5 in the future.

Not the best game from the Sims group. Obviously, for those who have been playing the Sims since day one, this was a necessity to the collection. Sadly, I sometimes find myself playing Sims 3 just to avoid the issues with Sims 4

I don't care what the rest of you say. This game is horrible and boring. So what is you can create people and play with them? I wanted a refund, but it was a 24 hour policy? Horrible system if you ask me. If you don't want to waste 40 dollars on things you can just do in real life, don't buy this game. I think it's way overrated.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is so inconsistent. In many ways. Some features are so polished while others are just there. I'm not talking about obvious missing features like toddlers, open world, cast, etc. I can play my style without them. But sims themselves. Sometimes I feel that connection trait-action-emotion doesn't exist at all. And sometimes I think 'Oh, that's a nice touch!'. Other problem is that game shows steps to reach a goal. I'm more or less OK with goal-oriented play, but knowing what exactly I get if I do this and that in advance kills desire to reach that goal. No surprise element. Another huge problem to me is inconsistency through game life-cycle. One would wonder what else will be broken after a patch. You start to play a sim who wants to become a friend of the world and the next patch break social status' system of the game.
CAS and multitasking are the only absolute positives to me. I have mixed feelings about all other. Emotions for example could be great. But they are so unbalanced that they become meaningless. Building is awesome but why all my whole lot has to have same foundation height. And it's too easy to make simoleons and there's not enough ways to spend them. Price which you could sell fruits of high quality is ridiculous. A blueberry for 6 900 simoleons... There are so many other things that neither good or bad. So it's a game that I bought but wish I spent my money on different things.

No color wheel or pattern system to design clothing or furniture the way you want, very limited color chooses specially for clothes, nothing matches because the colors cannot be adjusted and the predefined colors simply aren't enough. Totally closed and not connected world which means constant loading screens. You can't go in 3D from one neighborhood to another, the sub-hoods aren't connected through roads - you always have to go through map view.
Loading screen into map, loading screen into neighborhood-selection, loading screen to any lot within the neighborhood. Even all lots in your current neighborhood (there are only 4-5 per sub-hood) are locked from view and you have to go through loading screens to visit lots within your current neighborhood. Very many annoying screens to go through e. g. the neighborhood selection screen appears all the time. Totally flat grounds and lots, no reachable hills and mountains, no private fishing ponds any longer, fake sky, fake horizon, fake grass. The grass deserved not to be named a grass. Bark, rocks and grass lack details and are just painted without a structure on it. Everywhere sparkle effects on foods and harvest items to hide the bad textures. Cartoon style on everything, huge oversize objects and in comparison tiny Sims. Sims with flat paper skin and lots of gaps in the body structure (neck, arms, legs, mouth gaps) and the old fashioned style burrito clothing again this time without structure and mature textures, just clothes appear to me like a piece of paper was brought in a shape. If you now expect better performance in Sims 4 because world is totally closed, most features were removed and graphics were heavily tuned down and the whole simulation was simplified (i would say in Sims 4 is no simulation any longer regarding to family and social reaction aspects) then I have to disappoint you: No faster loading screens, not less bugs but even more bugs, totally modding unfriendly and saving the game is only slightly faster at the very beginning of a fresh save game. So the Sims 4 has no performance gain for the huge sacrifice developers made on it. The world is incredibly small, the sub-hood ends already at your neighbors home, 4 lots are in the neighborhood only. Sims aren't simulated well, Sims only do sport and fishing and nothing else in the neighborhood. You will see them going alone down the road without a family or group. They are mostly jogging, making push-ups on the road, rarely they have an assignment to fish for a while and that's the whole simulation. Only walking, jogging, more walking everyone alone and mostly kids, teenagers and elders. Adults are mostly never on the road which is irritating.
Kids and teens have no curfew, they roam the roads until 3-4am. Non-played Sims have no needs and no dress code.
Skills go immediately uncontrolled on everything which is very annoying, from a single conversation your Sim might get already three unwanted skills like comedy, mischief and charisma. Just getting into the pool and out will make your Sim receiving the athletic skill and picking up a fruit will give the Sim the gardening skill. All skills start from level 1 immediately and going already to level 2 which is very confusing. In the other Sims games we had a lock on those skills until we take classes or read a book - here are not existing classes.
No shops, no community buildings, no city hall, no work buildings, no hospital, only the tripled museums and gyms.
Meals you buy on your fridge, books you buy on your bookcase, pregnancy is resolved on the toilet.
Money is taking on the easel for each painting attempt, coffee machine takes money from the Sim and bar does - the floating money effect goes on everything and it annoys - other Sim games didn't that way. Huge bills which come only if you travel with your Sim to other lots, if you don't travel almost never comes any bill. The bill is snapped inside your mailbox, the mailman doesn't come, even if some Sims are working as mailman. The bill usually is snapped inside when you travel from CAS or into CAS or if you visit lots in the city. There is no newspaper and time scaling in weekdays doesn't work proper. Maid doesn't work right and doesn't come when you make a call. All other NPC were removed in this game (fireman, police, gardener, repairman). No repairman is in this game. Things break frequently, your Sim is enforced to do handiness each save game. No right money making or earning in this game exists for your Sim only painting is still profitable even after being downgraded already few times. Patches and updates don't bring fixes for this game - there are only downgrades, new bugs, new annoyances and trait downgrades or things being worsened or being removed from the game even. The graphic was downgraded with patches and more gaps were added to the Sims. Game crashes often or freezes on loading.

For example, if I wanted to be a Super Spy, that'd be the Goal/Wish, to become a Spy. The Sims 4 didn't even have Pools when it came out! Pools where added a few months later for free. Another thing, we couldn't see our Sims at work. I just wanted to be able to see the building my Sims worked at, just like in Sims 3. Again, after a few months EA allowed us to see out Sim at work! BUT we had to quit our current job and get a new job with the 3 jobs that you can be with your Sims while they where working. The 3 Jobs where, Detective, Scientist, or Surgeon/Doctor. This new DLC called "Get to Work" costs about $35. So basically you are paying for the game all over again (If the game was 50% off...). Oh and one HUGE thing EA messed up with, THEY DIDN'T ADD CARS! Can you believe it? They didn't add cars! Every so often you will see a few cars driving around the world, they can't be driven by your Sims though. EA, add cars as a FREE DLC for the game, and make the world "Open-World" like the Sims 3 was. I really dislike Sims 4 because it has a different "travel" system. That new travel system makes my game run at about 10 FPS just because of the loading screen. EA, please change the Sims 4 and make it be like Sims 3, I want to be able to travel with a car and not a long, laggy loading screen. I want to be able to have up to 6 traits for my Sims and not 3, I want to be able to see what jobs are available for my Sims when I'm creating them. I want my Sims to be better dancers and not just wave their arms like they are freaking drunk or high. I want my Sims to be able to live in a house that have Spiral Stair cases, and Elevators. I want my Sims to live in a single world and not split up within the 3 world that Sims 4 currently have. I want EA to fix their **** and stop dancing in our money.

    EA, you better fix this.

Yes, it's not /actually/ what we were lead to believe, a complete and utter improvement over the Sims 3. But it's not the piece of garbage most people are making it out to be either. For one, the mood system is a notable improvement over the single-axis system. Moodlets can build off of each other, and there are four distinct, positive moods to be had. Inspired, Excited, Happy, and Flirty. I cannot say how it is in the long-term, but quite frankly my first impression is favorable enough to give this a solid 8, though truthfully I'd sooner go for 7.5.

The fact that there are no open neighborhoods is something of a half-truth. Specifically, there are, 'Blocks' that you can visit. Not the actual in-game term, but there are subsections of the neighborhood that you can go to. These are relatively open, and short loading screens separate each individual lot. My loading times were only a second or two, giving a better sense of freedom than expected. In short: Yes. It's not the Sims 3. But it's nowhere near the Sims 2, like everyone is decrying it as.

Thirdly: Lack of features. EA has mostly fixed this, as of June 2015, and here I am playing just the base game. Pools are a thing, basements are a thing, ghosts are a thing, even the open world has an acceptable (Note: Acceptable, not complete and very good) sense of freedom. Some of the expansion pack jobs even allow you to follow your sim to work, from the looks of it. People have been requesting that for the longest time.

Overall: I think EA is starting to realize that you can't ship a half-finished game. Yes, they realized it after launch? But they still realized it in this case, as the Sims being their cash cow, they can't afford to screw it up too badly, for too long. Otherwise, it'd stop being their cash cow.

Not sure what all the griping and grumbling is about.. Sure there aren't quite as many things as there was on the other Sims games on The Sims 4, but remember there have only been 2 expansion packs as of now. It's still young in its run. To me, I instantly thought this game was better than Sims 3 (I didn't care for 3 much at all), but it's not quite on par with the original Sims or Sims 2, but subsequent expansions could make this so. The emotions feature is great and very glad they added this feature in the new series. It was something I had missed but could never explain I had missed it. Not sure why anyone is griping about pools because I have a pool at my house. The graphics have improved drastically. The only thing I liked about 3 and what is missing from this game is freely exploring the whole town from the house you are currently at. If they could add this in, it would be great. Excited for extra content apparently being released tomorrow. A new, great looking neighborhood! Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have two works to describe my feelings towards this game; not satisfied.
I was itching with anticipation for the Sims 3 but the results were disappointing, especially considering I'm not a video games person and the one game that I am excited for, that I save up for, that I just cant wait for was a complete waste of time and money.
The house building and create-a-sim aspect of it, PERFECT. If only they had of directed their brilliant thinking and creativity to some other aspects of Sims 4.
The major let downs for me are:
    1) The camera angle- Being a major fan of The Sims 3 conditioned me to be accustomed with the camera angle flexibility. Sims 4 dished up a stiff and awkward camera ange which constantly frustrates he heck out of me!
    2) Inability to explore the world- This new feature makes me feel extremely restricted. I'm forced to go wherever my Sim is going, I may as well be a sim myself.
    3) The deathly loading screen- What were they thinking? Watching your fat Sim attempt to run all the way to the park was half the fun. I think this feature is a drag, it strips away the feeling of realness to the game and is a blatant reminder, 'oh that's rights its a game.' It really just ruins the consistency in the flow of sims.
    4) SWIMMING POOLS- why EA? Why would you take away my ability to watch my sims drown!

To sum up, I think the new Sims offers nothing but a mundane, day-in-day-out lifestyle for your sim/sims. The game is tasteless and unappetising. I am going to be sticking with Sims 3.

This game sucks. They basically stripped everything away that made Sims 3 great and want you to buy everything through expansions. To make it even worst, they require you sign up for their Origin account so you have to log in every time you want to play. This game sucked so bad, I stopped playing it for several months. I thought I would try it again to see if anything has improved but forgot the stupid password. All the other Sims you can just pop it in and enjoy the game. Nope! EA want's their money. Stick to Sim 3. And for those that think this is just because Sims 4 just needs expansions, I played Sims 3 with no expansion packs the whole time and was satisfied with the game without any additional expansions. So, Sims 4 is nothing compared to Sims 3 vanilla. Expand

This is by far, the MOST DISAPPOINTING game of my life.
As a hardcore Sims 1, 2 and 3 player, I feel offended by this game.
It's not The Sims anymore, you can change this name to any other crap. The only cool thing is editing Sims' bodies at Create-A-Sim, but everything else was downgraded. -No Create-A-Style (come on!) -No Open World (come on!) -No interactions with babies

-No background (all the buildings around your house are fake and not accessible)

I don't need to list all the flaws, there's a list with 82 missing things from The Sims 4 that you can find on Google.

This is just so bad that it doesn't even deserve a review.

I don't understand why so many people don't like the game! It's a great game. Of course some things are missing, but how EA/Maxis has been handling things adding a huge feature every month!
    November: Pools!
December: New Jobs/Mini Holiday Pack! January: Outdoor Retreat! (Game pack) February: Family Trees! March: Basements, Paint from Reference, and lots more! April: The "Get To Work"

May: And the upcoming stuff pack, Luxury Parties!

Of course kind of a bummer to not have toddlers, but I'm fine with it!

It's a fairly good game so I rate it 9/10.

Loading screens, loading screens, loading screens! A perfectly good game franchise ruined by constant loading screens and a very limited and lacking base game with the idea that DLC's will replace this once readily available content from previous games that came with their base game.

I refuse to pay £30 for a DLC which adds a few more jobs and outfits, nor will I pay £15 for a DLC that

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
