I'm so glad they've learned from their past experiences what works and what doesn't. This is a refreshing new take on the franchise with still enough of the UI intact to make it feel like 'home.' It's about interactions in my humble opinion, and that's where they've made it shine! Keep up the great work and I look forward to expansions! Remember people, think when the sims were originally Vanilla (no expansions added)...a few of this a few of that. That's what base games are...just the basics!! Give them a fair shake! Plus no crashes thus far (I have a gaming rig) so that's a major plus!!

The perfect base game! The loading screens are short as promised and the emotions are actually fun. The reviews on this website are a clear example of people trying to hate on a game they haven't even played.

A great improvement on The Sims series. Exactly what I would expect out of a sequel with SO MUCH more packed in. Create-A-Sim and Build mode have very intuitive controls and Live Mode shows off the Sims' emotions super well! Tons of fun!

Created an account after reading the negative reviews on here and actually having payed for The Sims 4 when I have torrented every single copy since day 1, not ashamed or scared to admit it. So I guess I feel like my investment deserves a critique where I hope it will be read.

There are a LOT of improvements on the core game as whole.
    Lets make a list:
Free roam is still intact, the fact I had to read a negative review complaining about this made my shake my head for it only proves that the haters always, ALWAYS will be the loudest and whiniest of all voices.
People still visit your lot and your neighbors lot in fact you can visit all of your neighbors and even a small garden park by your initial house without any loading screens or transitioning.
I can still jogg around the town and meet people as I do and enjoy the view.

I think the criticism of the no Free Roam is targeted at the fact not all lots are available without travel/load
this is true for the gym, library, bar and other higher classes areas but it does not take away ANYTHING from the game at all or the previous Sims in fact it makes it better.
HOW DOES IT MAKES BETTER YOU ASK? Well the loading times have been drastically lowered from previous titles thanks to this, it is almost seeming less loading times when you actually decide to travel outside of your hood. It increases game performance incredibly and due to this my frames have been consistent and not a single crash, have more then 14 hours logged already. The free roam from before was a complete waste of time and asked a lot more from your system resources then it should also it was very buggy/glitchy and not very smart at all since you rarely cared about how he got there but when he will get there, time is a factor in the sims, always.
Now the game loads not just the library but ALL of the entertainment/resources venues in a single go and you will experience a smotth transition from home to any other lot elsewhere. Mind you that your neighborhood still contains a multitude of other houses/families/park and constant pass byers in their jogs/walks for you to feel like you are part of the world as a whole which Is what I'm guessing was the criticism directed towards the lack of a before mentioned buggy/glitchy system, progress is good and some people just can't handle it. They my cry and say it takes away from the game but I beg to differ, it keeps it intact while making it more accessible to everyone around the world especially those with systems that are not built for gaming.

Multi-tasking: HUGE improvement, I can flirt/chat/geek out w.e you can think of as a chat option with anyone while at the same time working out, playing computer games, eating, drinking etc.
I can read a logic book while I watch tv. yay! I have yet to discover all the different opportunities multi tasking brings but so far i'm very impressed and I am liking it a lot.

Did they mention the fact you can be a stand up comic, write your own routines and perform them live? You used to have to pay for that.

Or that I can have sex while I stargaze in the observatory and build my own freaking space ship in my backyard?

Or that that the building of rooms and expanding my house no longer takes a huge amount of time/investment and frustrating interface? They have already made rooms from you ranging from different tiers and I love selecting them or making my own which thanks to the new UI has made it a lot smoother.

Did they mention how the new mood-lets gives your sims a ton of new personality? Flirty, tense, sad, confident, embarrassed etc. all come with their quirks and perks that boost your current actions and give new actions from interactions with other sims to items around the world, makes it exciting really.

Did I mention the fact that the game has ZERO CRASHES and NO LAG AT MAX SETTINGS? :O:O:O
IF you really ARE a true sims fan you will know how big of a deal this is, even with 3 gig video card and 6 cores it was only a matter of time before the Sims 3 or 2 crashed, especially when designing a huge home.

The customization of the sims has improved VASTLY. Just two things that I feel must be said, you can take complete control of the size of a woman's waist, breast size and location of said breast entirely. The same applies to the Ass, nothing else must be said, thank you EA.
My wife is a bodybuilder with RIPPED abs and Legs, seriously the new graphics make her look better then any fitness model, also thanks to the fact I made her ass/boobs ridiculously large while her stomach is slim/ripped

Of course, the game has less features that The Sims 3 with all the added expansions. Of course, you'll have to pull out the wallet to get those. Now as for the rest of the game, I'm greatly impressed so far. The emotions are a fun addition that give the spark of life to your sims that the previous game lacked. The ability to multitask is fantastic and adds a layer of subtlety to relationships. But the biggest improvement is to be found in performance. The game is more beautiful than its predecessor, yet it runs smoother than ever. No lag, screen freezes, whether you have a race car of a computer or an old, tired beetle. The price to pay for that is closed lots, you have to go through a loading screen whenever you go to another lot. While it's a bit of a bummer, I loved the open world in The Sims 3, and the sheer size of the cities ; it's a small price to pay for a beautiful *and* playable game. No toddlers is another bummer, but is it a big one? Well, it is if you greatly enjoyed that stage of your sims' lives. I didn't, usually went through it as fast as possible, get the baby skilled up and move on to the more interesting childhood stage. Also, no doubt toddlers will be added to a future expansion, maybe the equivalent of The Sims 6 Generations.
Overall, the game seems to sit on a strange fence, taking out some features (not necessarily the ones worthy of missing, who really cared about pools?), but adding a lot of depth to the sims themselves. A more constrained outside world, contrasting with a much deeper inner world. I'd have rated the game 8 on its current merits, but I added one point simply because the long trail of zeros in player reviews is disheartening and undeserved. I understand regretting the absence of (minor?) features, but denying the other qualities of the game because of it is just dishonest. Then again, there is probably a lot of EA (deserved) hate involved. But while Sim City was a joke and pretty much a huge failure, fans of the series shouldn't miss this refreshing new installment.

I find myself excited when they learn a skill, eagerly trying to accomplish their desires and overall just paying a lot more attention than before. It should now be more viable for lower end user.
The animations are a LOT smoother, new build mood is very good, lighting is SUPERB!! I love the illumination in sims 4!

Tbh no open world/loading screens isn't a big deal for me it makes you focus more on the sims rather than what's around it. I could literally watch the sims talk all day it's just hilarious!

Also you can't compare the past games to this it's a brand new base game and will only get better in the future ^_^ it's not perfect but it's amazing for what it is now and I didn't even realized

The game runs smooth, significantly better than its predecessor on the same system. The animations and non-binary emotions lead to more character depth. The aspirations and "whims" are more like the "wants" in Sims 2, where they're short term goals generated by a character's personality and life goals. Don't mistake its cartoonish look for depth of gameplay, this is definitely a strategy game, where you have to manage time and manipulate social interaction to meet your goal. It's still a sandbox though. You choose the goals for yourself and the game doesn't punish you if you choose to ignore them.

If you're reading this, it's likely you already know about "the big changes", but don't let the mostly inaccurate, totally inane lists fool you. Bottom line, this is a fun, high performing game, a game with substance and characters with depth.

If they patch in moveobjects on, I'll knock the score up to ten.

It's a base game, people. There will be expansions giving you lots of new things to play with probably very soon. This game is great so far, and will become even better with the expansions and DLCs to come. It's true that you don't have an infinite number of designs to choose from for your objects, and you can't freely roam the neighborhood without a load screen. But the graphics are phenomenal, CAS is very much improved, and your Sims seem more realistic than ever before. Also, the loads are very quick, and for me at least, the existing customization options are good enough. As it is, the game is awesome for my particular gaming style. I urge Sims fans to give it a try to see if it suits them, and remember: if you download it from Origin, you can get a full refund within 24 hours if you don't like it. So really, there's no harm in trying it.

Also, I hate when people bash the makers of any games. They worked very hard to produce a video game for your enjoyment. So even if it isn't perfect to you, show some appreciation.

When I heard that EA was going to hold back review copies until release, I thought "wow, this game is going to be really bad". Upon launch I looked up user reviews and was bombarded with 0 and 1 out of 10's. I initially thought I had really dodged a bullet with this one, but after reading the explanation behind such poor reviews (the only things of substance being the toddlers and pools), decided to check it out to see if it really was as bad as the reviews say it was. I knew about the "Great Game Guarantee" from origin, so if it really was as bad as people were saying, I could return it no problem. I launched the game and was greeted by familiar sounding music. Before I say anything else, I just want to say that the music throughout all of the Sims games is really great, and although some might say its kind of silly to have that be a point in a review, It is a big part of the game. If you were in build mode and some garbage song comes on, you wouldn't be nearly as immersed. Moving on, when I clicked the play button I was met with the the Create a Sim area. I never played the Create a Sim demo, so this was a new experience to me. Although the constant tutorials were kind of annoying, those are only a first time thing, so I let that slide. They obviously put a lot of work into this part of the game. This is the first Sims game where all of the characters I made looked different from one another. After messing around with the tools for a little while, I made a sim that looked strikingly like myself. I moved into an empty lot to get acquainted with the build/buy modes of the game. Much like create a sim, I felt that the huge overhaul of the system made a difference. In a much shorter time than the Sims 3 I had my house all set up and looking nice. A lot of people are complaining about the lack of objects in the game, and I couldn't find the numbers anywhere online, but it seems to have just about as many things to choose from as vanilla Sims 3. I had a lot of fun with the integrated build buy, but the lack of Create a Style was a bit distressing. Although they had a lot of custom options for the furniture, I missed being able to get exactly what I wanted into the game, which was rather disappointing. I began the game, and had a short introduction the new UI, which is a nice improvement. I signed my sim up for work as an entertainer, and was slightly peeved I couldn't follow him to work, and had to stare at an empty home for a couple minutes. This is where the lack of an open world is most annoying, as in TS3 I was able to scroll over to the park and see what other sims were doing, or just explore the map really. Instead I clicked around the house, and I must say, the attention to detail is pretty impressive. The books and the descriptions are what really got me, but the entire game has attention to the littlest things that make it feel a lot more expansive. The next day I had no work, so I decided to take my sim out to meet some friends. I traveled to the park and started talking to one sim while playing chess. The animations really make the interactions feel natural, and the emotion specific actions are a really cool addition to the game. On the subject of emotions, I really like the fact that they now (more noticeably at least) impact how your sim preforms certain tasks. The fact that a goofy mood is better for writing jokes, and an inspired mood is better for painting, and these are just a few of them. I really appreciate the game mechanic, and it seems most people are completely overlooking this. After playing for a couple more hours the game didn't seem to lose any steam, and kept me wrapped up in my sims life, although having group conversations was rather strange, with people just kind of walking up and randomly joining/leaving. I think if the feature was worked on a bit more, it could really work well in the game, but for right now it's just kind of awkward. After a bunch more hours of game time under my belt, I decided to write this review. To cover a few points outside of the actual gameplay, I would like to say that the price is a bit steep. I understand that most games today are $60, as was the Sims 3, but with the knowledge that at least 10 new expansion packs and more stuff packs/DLC are coming, I think a price of $40 would have made the game reach a wider audience ($20 can make a difference). Overall, the game feels like a step up from The Sims 3 in a definite way, and I would recommend it to anyone on the fence about buying (although waiting for a sale couldn't hurt).

The lots are actually full now because of the loading screens between lots. The pools didn't give me more than a couple of seconds of entertainment. If you are dying to have something that resembles a pool use a fountain. I would've given this a 7 but because of all the 0's I'll try to balance it out. Movement between neighbourhoods. I can see in the future a World Adventures like expansion pack adding new neighbourhoods. And if they have a Late night like expansion you could have your sims go to "Bridgeport" in the evening for the night clubs. Or if there's a "Showtime" there could be a Hollywood neighbourhood where the celebrities live
Better clothes, hair and accessories than SIms 3 base
    Much faster and slicker.

    Cons:
    No toddlers

    No create-a-style
    Loading screens/no open world
Glitches, however the Sims 3 started off with billions of glitches and I still discover new glitches now.
No rabbit-hole locations, instead sims just go off the map, however since there is no open world there seems little point for rabbit holes anyway.

    Overall Verdict:
As a base game, The Sims 4 provides a brilliant BASE for the future. I can see lots of things that could turn it into a great game. It's just a shame they removed some features that had been available in base games since day 1. Personally I recommend waiting either a couple of months for glitches to be discovered and fixed, or even a couple of years and wait for expansion packs if lack of content is annoying you.

Overall the game is stable, and I keep discovering new thins hiding deep within the gameplay. I think a lot of the negative reviews are from people who played 15 minutes and then went PFFFt or - worse - haven't played the game at all.

Pros: Well... almost everything, gameplay wise. The menus and camera can be a bit confusing, but they have a couple settings to revert those to previous incarnations.

Cons: I only have two. The first is the lack of a more robust autosave feature. While the game crashes very, very rarely (had it happen twice in a week), if you haven't saved, then you're going to be in trouble.

The second is a bit more important - the first patch resulted in my game crashing on launch. It took me a good couple hours to realize that the game had to be run in administrator mode so the patch could be applied. I wound up uninstalling and sitting through a massive redownload via Origin before realizing what was going on.

So is it perfect? No. But in the realm of Sims games, I think its a very solid foundation for the inevitable mountains of DLC to come. It's probably the best in the Sims franchise so far.

-Have to load every lot, even your next door neighbor. (This actually makes all load times faster).
-Some things that have been in the core games have been left out. [Pools, basements, dishwashers]
    -Fewer color options
-Slow, monetized release of material via DLC. The Sims 3 did this. Sims 2 did this. Every Call of Duty does this now. If you want a long lasting, ever expanding game universe, expect to pay for it. It's the norm in modern video games.

    Good:
-Incredibly intuitive character creation. Easy and effective.
-Emotions give more options and create more thinking about your actions.
-The whole game is more flavorful, and this mostly centers around the emotions and how emotional states will change everyday things (ex: Pee like a champion).
-Load times are about 3x faster than Sims 3 (see above)

Overall: I can see why people are complaining. But I can see the skeleton that EA Maxis built, and it's going to be able to hold the weight of the project they are building. It's going to be great.

Another note: If I can put 20 hours into just one family so far, I know I'm going to get my money's worth from this game.

For example, the load screen when travelling between places. Surely you aren't basing your entire opinions on something so small which, if you ask me, is a major improvement? Why would you want to watch your Sim glitch from place to place (as the Sims 3 was slow to the point it was almost unplayable) when you can travel there within seconds? Granted, there are a number of things missing that I would like to have seen in the Sims 4, such as swimming pools and a larger variety of clothes etc. however i'm fairly sure those things will come in time. It seems to me, the original game was made to be so simplistic with the intention of adding more expansion packs than with the previous games, which I can only assume to be a way of making more money. Wouldn't you? Overall, I would say I am very pleased with the game and I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews, The Sims 4 is a smoother, tidier and all round better looking version of the Sims 3 with tons of added features and a Sim that is much more interactive than before. Please ignore all the negative comments and bad reviews, it's well worth the money! Expand

I want to start off by asking the question, how is this game getting such a bad rep?
I'm an old school sims player, I've been playing since TSO. The sims 2 happened to be my favorite for the PC and I wasn't really into the whole neighborhood view at all when the sims 3 came out.

This version of the sims is an awesome updated version of the sims. You can travel between different towns with a loading screen of 5 seconds (Depending on your computer processor). Also you live on a lot, and on that lot you can travel between several different houses without loading screens, and so many people walk by your house and around the lot that you never miss traffic.
What I do happen do dislike is there is NO dishwashers, nor pools. I'm sure it will come out on an expansion, but as for now that kind of upset me.
I created an account just to let you know that you aren't wasting your money if you can enjoy a new era of The Sims. people don't understand where the Sims came from to be rating them such low points. The Sims 3 wasn't a step up in some peoples eyes (like mine), however The Sims 4 is really a great change in The Sims series. I Love the emotions, the worlds, the people and how they act, the multitasking, building, and so many more great feature this game has to offer. 9/10 because of no dishwashers or pools.

All right, people. I know this game isn't the masterpiece that all the Sims 3 players were expecting but it is absolutely not worth a 3.9. It's nowhere near there.

The Create-a-Sim is very intuitive and super easy to use, the emotions are a great game mechanic (I actually didn't know that they haven't been in a Sims game up until now), and creating homes is surprisingly simple, which is very high praise coming from me.

Yes, there are areas in which this game could be improved (make it a bit more open, for one), and yes, you may get bored after a while and have to use mods to make it better, but come on, people, this isn't worth a 0. This isn't worth anywhere from a 0-5. As a newcomer to The Sims series, I'm giving this a 9.

Overall, I find the Sims 4 to be stunningly underrated - and for bizarre reasons.

Although many aspects of gameplay have been removed from previous generations (such as Create-A-Style and open worlds), there are clear reasons for these removals, the most obvious being the Create-A-Style removal, due to the extreme lag experienced by many players during almost all Sims 3 gameplay.

Moreover, the multitude of design options available in Create-A-Sim allow for a large variety of options. The loading screens, while present while changing neighbourhoods, are quite short and a small price to pay for nearly-lag-free gameplay.

One important improvement for the series made by this game is that of family connection. In previous games, families living in the same household required player-directed interaction in order to build relationships, however the Sims 4 allows friendships to be made through simple daily activities like eating a meal together.

My biggest complaint about this game is its ease. Most aspirations are unrealistically easy to complete and many can be accomplished within the course of a week in-game, any student can achieve a grade of A within four in-game days, without a great deal of focused activity on the part of the player.

And with EA and Maxis patching the game, and eventually add expansion packs, it'll be even better! If you don't like it, just don't play it, it's that simple!

Os game-packs também. Não é o melhor jogo do mundo, mas é ótimo, e, eu, da minha pessoa, recomendo. For instance, they don't have toddlers like they had in the sims 3 and they don't have some expansions that they had in the previous games, but there will be more to come in the future. I love how the Create-a-sim is different and all they new things like that were included in the game. The only con for me, is that it doesn't have open world and cars. But everything else is great and fun! I doon't really get the people that are just complaining and complaining. But coming from The Sims 3 with all its expansions and Stuff packs, ofcourse people will be left feeling cheated, it would be impossible to make The Sims 4 feel as fully featured as The Sims 3. The Sims 4 is a good one, but it does nothing special with the series and just feels like solid ground work to base their future expansions on, which I'm sure will be a much better experience then The Sims 3, but until then, just enjoy what's on offer and look forward to see what they do with it and leave The Sims 3 installed on your PC...

Pros - Many improvements over The Sims 3. Better graphics, smooth camera movement, switching between build mode and Live mode is almost instantaneous. Many more options when in conversations

Cons - Hideously expensive! $40 bucks for 3 extra jobs? Really? Pretty sure they intentionally skimped on the base game to gouge us with DLC. This is not appreciated and this will affect future purchases if you're listening EA! However, The Sims has always been very expensive so any veteran knows what we're getting into by purchasing it. Towns also seem smaller but I'm sure EA will be happy to sell us expansions at a premium.

If you have the money, this is a very fun experience and a decent improvement over The Sims 3. I think many people are rating this game based on the The Sims 3 with a dozen expansions and that is not a fair comparison. I understand as I had most of the Sims 3 expansions. So far, I'm glad I made the change.

The ability to scale that up to ultra settings on a gaming PC/laptop (like a Razer Blade) shows some pretty awesome improvements in the program coding, and I think the developers deserve a lot of credit for what must have been a lot of fine tuning. I've been very impressed with the UI changes as well: it's not perfect (keyboard shortcuts, for example, need some work), but it's a marked improvement over the Sims 3.

I think people would benefit from examining what expectations they have for this new game. Regarding content -- I don't think it's fair to compare it to the years-long content war chest of the Sims 3. When I compare the original Sims 3 release content to the Sims 4, I find them to be very comparable. The reaction of "the Sims 4 just didn't do it for me like the Sims 3 did" is, of course, valid, but I'd encourage those who feel that way to examine whether or not their impression comes from criticism of the Sims 4 or from burnout from the Sims playstyle mechanics. When I ponder about how they could have "shaken up" the core play mechanics, it doesn't take long for me to realize that there isn't a lot I'd want changed! Change for change's sake isn't always helpful, and fixing what isn't broke can put a lot of strain on a franchise.

On the whole: I'm glad they kept the solid play mechanics from the Sims 3 because they were/are great. I don't fault the Sims 4 for having less content than the present-day Sims 3 behemoth, and it sounds like new content will come faster and more reliably to the new platform. I think we need to give credit where credit is due: the game itself runs orders-of-magnitude better than its predecessors on a huge swath of PCs (it runs so well on my Surface Pro 2, it's unbelievable) -- reflecting a better back-end coding platform which speaks well to the game's future -- and the user experience (UI, music, etc.) is markedly improved.

If you love the Sims and don't mind a temporarily restricted content catalog (at least in comparison to what you're used to), you aren't going to regret jumping to the Sims 4. It's great, it's fun, and it's more of the Sims. (Which is exactly what you want!)

I really am not sure what to think of Sims 4. It's a great improvement from Sims 3, but its generically the same thing. The worst part is the favt that whenever you take your date, you only got a bar. Hell, the place is extremely shabby. An open-world environment would be excellent, yet, this is over 9.60 GB of space on your PC. Its good if sorts.

This is a really great Sims game. Other than a couple bugs this is a great Sims game to add to the franchise. If you are a Sims fan you for sure have to pick this game up. The Sims 4 is an all round great game.

Astoundingly fun with tons of initial content for CAS and Build mode. In many ways, this is the best Sims yet. Aside from the Sim you are playing, they are all more mindless than ever. Sure, the emotions are entertaining but they really don't add much to the game play. Sacrificing autonomy for simulated emotions was a tradeoff I could have done without.

Content wise, I'm very pleased with the massive amount of things to build with and activities to do with your Sim. There is a ton of items to build and decorate with. The new build mode and CAS are more intuitive and powerful than ever.

Great looking game, fun game play, nice creative tools, ridiculously tiny neighborhoods with boring, lifeless npc's. All in all, worth the money but continues to show the power EA holds over once revered developer, Maxis.

Sims 4 feels fresh, polished and most importantly fun. The new multitasking feature is a major plus along with the new social and mood interactions. unfortunately the main game is lacking content which is too be purchased individually in DLC. It's the best Sims yet, i cant wait too see what's next.

The most controversial game in the series. I can see why, but does it deserve a user score of 3.7?

Pros: The core Sims gameplay is still as excellent as ever. I had the time of my life playing it and it really brought back memories of playing The Sims 3 The UI has been improved for better. Everything is more organized and is less "In your face" than it has been in previous games

There is a heavy emphasis on emotions and The Sims has always been about keeping your Sims happy and well taken care of, and the new focus has made the game a lot more interesting.
The build mode has been improved, you can now easily resize walls and you can even pick up entire rooms! There are plenty of customization options to choose from as well

    Cons:
The new Create a Sim mode has some interesting aspects, for example, dragging and dropping certain features to alter them, but you can only choose 3 main traits, there are less customization options, Create a Style is gone and you can no longer create toddlers (How much of a big deal is that to anyone anyway?)
The open world aspect from The Sims 3 is gone. Now it is a bland and generic world map, with the inability to create new lots, you only get 3 empty ones and a few houses to choose from. If you want to travel a lot, instead of driving or running there, you have to sit through a loading screen, EVEN IF YOU WANT TO GO ACROSS THE F*****G STREET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall, I had a lot of fun with The Sims 4 and many things have been improved, but all of the innovations made in The Sims 3 have been ignored and it feels like a greatly improved version of The Sims 2.

First of all, watching trailers and gameplay on YouTube was very misleading.
Watching trailers and reading reviews I wanted EA and Maxis to burn in Hell for what they have done to this great franchise. But after actually playing the game I must say I was very wrong.

1- Sims are not too cartoonish unless you make them so. As a person who hates cartoonish style in gaming I must admit that I menaged to make my sims very realistic. And overall world aldow cartoonish is not ugly at all. I know what you're all thinking,"we have seen the trailers they are cartoonish" trust me during actual gameplay they do not feel that way at all, unless you make them so.
2- Emotions are not overpronounced at all. Sims dont swag too much and none of my sims died from laughter. In fact they are more alive then ever and their reactions on world and situations are not annoying as they often are in Sims3.
3- When I read about how they improved emotions, I was thinking "WTF sims already had emotions and personality just fine" but boy was I wrong. The new sims are truly alive, and you wont belive how enjoyable and engaging it is to see their personalities emerge during gameplay.
4- I played on high graphics settings (not maximum) without experiencing a single glitch or lag, and I play on the same computer that could play Sims3 only on lower resolution and medium settings.
5- On the other hand my game crashes a lot, and there is no autosave so I often lose my game witch is very annoying. And managing saved games is bad, although you can have multiple saves you can only load the last save. Or I haven't figured out how to load previous saves yet.
6- Yes, not having open world is unforgivable.
7- It is more challenging to manage sims now than before, or to say it in another word gameplay is more engaging.
8- This is definitely not the final product. There are gaps everyware telling us that only with a few expansions this game will be complete.

As a tool with all freedoms that it gives us The Sims3 is definitely much better game, but Sims4 have the same charm that Sims2 had. Although I am saddened by limited options we now have, I must confess that very quickly I learned to enjoy limitations, and now I have opportunity to actually meet my sims and truly play with them instead of endles building environment they live in.

While it is true to say that these missing elements are a let down and give EA an opportunity to make more cash out the DLC's, I could not help but think how entertaining this game was. Seeing all those omissions on paper made me think I would absolutely hate this game, while in all actuality I forgot about those omissions because I was having too much fun with the game. The new emotions and character creation is enough to engulf me hours upon hours just to try and get the perfect sim. The world in itself does not seem as vast as previous versions. But when you kind of think of it, this always happens with game franchises. Everybody always complains about not getting this feature or that feature from the previous game. I am personally enjoying my experience playing this game and sincerely hope people actually try it out themselves instead of spewing hate over a game they have never played. Expand

I think the reason for all of the negative reviews is by comparing it to previous versions of the game, which is unfair. The Sims 4 is starting fresh by having the basics, which is actually the way I like to play The Sims. By having basic controls/design's/etc., the game can be played by almost anyone. I have the BARE minimum setting and it works amazing on my computer.

I've only played this game a few hours and will update my review if my opinion changes over time. So far, I'd say this game is decent. Yeah, there's not a lot to do right now, but there were 11 expansion packs for TS3, so yeah... a base game is going to feel like that. I feel disappointed, but I can remember feeling this exact level of disappointment when The Sims 3 came out. I feel disappointed, but I can remember feeling this exact level of disappointment when The Sims 3 came out. I hated TS3 at first. I hated the graphics and I even hated the open world.

So I'm going to bypass the whole "there's so much less to do part". I don't think someone can honestly give a good opinion of that unless they're brand-new to the Sims franchise or have only played the base games. It should also be fair to note that I'm coming at this as a Sims fan, and my score is based on previous games - I'm too biased at this point to judge the quality on other games.

Okay, so I hate the loading screens. They're there all the time. I also hate the fact that you can't see your Sim going to work. But let's face it, The Sims 3 had a myriad of bugs that made the game unplayable. The Sims 2 didn't. I have a feeling that a lot of sacrifices have been made so that, 11 expansions from now, we can still have a stable game.

There are a few things that I don't like about the game (teen heights, but what I see looks very proimising for the future of the franchise. The game runs smoother, Sims' interactions are way more realistic, and overall I'm seeing a LOT more creativity in this game. The Sims 3 reused a large amount of interactions from The Sims 2, and revisited TS2 for almost every expansion. The Sims 2, by contrast, was the most creative game of the series. It did reuse ideas from TS1, but every single expansion completely changed the game. The Sims 4 is being led by the same creative director as TS2, so I think that future expansions will include favorites from previous games, but will give us a lot of brand new ideas to play around with.

Bottom line is, this franchise needs a breath of fresh air, and the future looks promising. That is, if it can stay alive that long.

After playing it for 4 more hours on the next day I started to like a lot of the new Emotion mechanics and the resulting game play. But also the flaws have come out a lot clearer. I still am very disappointed that they removed the open world. And esp when you are playing a full family there are a lot of times when you loose control over your Sims. This is not only a nuisance but majorly annoying for me.

Also there are bugs concerning this situations. When a Sim for example reads a Skill book in the library and you switch over to another Sim, he not only instantly stops what he was doing, but when you return focus to her, the book is missing from the library.
I know this is a bug that will be fixed eventually, but the lack of control over your Sims (while time is passing for them) is getting more annoying the bigger the family is.
Another example is doing that when you have no focus on your child while it is at home, there is no way to let it do its homework. That means you are required to have focus on the Sim to do this and can not go on working on your other sim at another location while one person has to do boring but necessary work.

I really like the Emotion system and how it ties into the wishes. also the Multitasking makes the family experience very cool. The graphics are nice, though not high end. That Sims just vanish when they go to work/school is ok with me.
The lack of options that so many people complain about was to be expected it being the base game of a long Expansion series. And Vanilla Sims 3 is also very limited.
Taking out Toddlers is something I do not like and I hope there will be a 'Generations' expansion that reintroduces them.

All in all I like some of the game aspects, but I have to get used to the loosing control part. It makes for a new game experience that changes up a lot from Sims 3 to this one.

i give it a 5 with an outlook to become a game that can rise to a much higher score after some expansions and a bit more getting used to changes.

I don't think people are rating this game fairly for what it is. Most are saying "NO COLOR WHEEL, NO TODDLERS? 0/10!" Not to mention, this is self-inflicted on EA's part for pushing garbage for so long.

Maybe I'm being a little lenient because of how much TS3 disappointed me. Clunky gameplay. Ugly sims. All around laggy game. Even after EPs, I couldn't bring myself to keep playing it.

This game, for starters, at least feels like a full game, even with what's missing from TS3, I really think it holds its own as a Sims base game. The UI is beautiful and the graphics, OH GOOD LORD THE GRAPHICS. I'm running on an NVIDIA GTX 770 and 16G of RAM. The game runs amazing and at extremely high framerates.

While they cut alot from TS3, it was a lot of stuff that didn't matter to me. Toddlers were boring if not a chore after so long. Yeah, it added to the realism, but not enough to save it for me.

The new build more is amazing. Window height, wall height, roofing tool, fences, etc etc etc. I don't like how almost all the doors are white, but aside from that its great. Very easy to use, which is usually a complaint I would have about EA dumbing down the game. This time, even if EA thinks I'm a monkey, they did it right. A huge improvement on a mode that hasn't seen a real update since TS2.

Admittedly, I was disappointed in buy mode. Very limited, but the style selections are nice.

I miss the 3D neighborhood, but I don't miss the open world. Going from place to place was like an in-game loading screen. Very boring to me.

You have to understand... Everyone plays the sims differently. I really love building and creating the world around my Sims. Some people hate building and love raising families.

The game is a solid installment, and even with whats missing from TS3, I really think the good outweighs the bad.

At first I gave it a 9/10, but that's a little generous. If you liked any Sims game, this one is worth picking up. 8/10

I see all of these bad reviews and wonder "did they actually play the game?" and why is it that even though they claim there is pros to the game they still give it a 0. I came to the conclusion that they (the other reviewers)are eithe rpayed off or angry disillusioned rabid no-longer-fans, that is all they are.
    The Pros:

Reasons I enjoy this game, the new building and sim creation tools are awesome. The gameplay feels quite solid, and i feel that my sims are actually alive. In sims 3, i didnt feel the same way, simple as that. I actually preferred the sims 2. (Though sims 3 did feel like a cool rpg-simulation sort of thing. with all the expansions) The soundtrack is very good (though i am still a big fan of the ORIGINAL sims soundtrack) The collectibles are many and interesting. (I believe sims 3 shipped ORIGINALLY with less?), The careers are Few, but the new "room rewards" are very rewarding. The aspirations are multitiered this time around (its no longer just a single cut out and dry goal) its like a quest line now (which i honestly prefer). And many other things.

    The Cons:

Ok we all knew this was coming, my biggest gripe is the removal of pools and ghosts (WHY DID YOU REMOVE GHOSTS EA.. WHY) the ghosts in sims 3 may have been boring, but in sims two they were awesome, I was hoping for some interesting ghosts this time around, (for my legacy games) but nope, its no happening.
Pools are gone, UGH. (we all share this disappointment)

The toddler life state (which i loved, is gone)

I can go one for awhile, but im going to stop here and say that despite the removal of these things (and the fricken weird teens), the game still FEELS solid.
I also saw some of the plans for expansions, and they plan on doing a castaway type expansion , I fricken loved the sims 2 castaway and will WILL buy that expansion when it comes out).

Given all the complaints I expect ea to react, also for those who wish to vent, on the sims 4 forums they added a stickied feedback thread, THROW ALL YOUR HATE THERE, NOW, to "encourage" ea to readd ghosts pools and toddlers. They will hopefully listen if they want to make money.

Overall sims 4 is Good, for what it is, But it definitely could use some improvements.

After reading SO SO SO many negative reviews, and a handful of fake looking positive ones, I paid out despite the bad taste everyone's comments left in my mouth. I really am glad I bought it. We all know it's lacking certain features of previous sims games, but guess what? This isn't previous sims games! This is a brand new game, just like we asked for. I would have been let down, honestly, if it was just the Sims 3 with some new graphics flair. EA set out to make a new game and they did. It's not as though it's so incredibly different that I don't know what I'm doing when I play; after being a die-hard sims fan since The Sims 1, I intuitively knew how to navigate the world and play with my people.

The absolute coolest part of the whole game is just how rich their personalities are. I made a sim of my friend, Katie, and wow.... Just wow. It looks and acts like her. She gets really excited and playful like she does, and she even came to the sim of me to ask for advice (and of course my sim goes to her and vents). The relationship dynamic in this game is really what makes it. We have not seen anything like this in previous games. The old sims felt more like empty vessels dressed to feel like people, and we fill in the gaps with our gameplay. Now it feels like I'm playing a game with rather intelligently designed characters.

I have only a few gripes about create-a-sim. I wish the invisible "sliders" were a bit more dynamic, as well as, of course, I wish there was a better selection for clothing options. I really hope we see accessories like cardigans or scarves in the future. I think the best part about the new CAS is if I'm too lazy to make a cool new sim and I just was to start playing, I can just click a button and use other people's creations. That sure beats going with a goofy "random" sim, and I don't have to put in any effort to get a sim worth playing.

You really have to have a sense of humor with this game. Stupid things happen, and it is hilarious. There are a plethora of llama jokes, puns, and pokes at pop culture (did we expect less??). The sims do really silly things on their own, too, like how the Katie sim was talking to an old guy, but then the conversation got awkward, so she ran into her bedroom and hid under the covers. It's also a good giggle the first time you see a pair of sims take a selfie together, or when a sim slips out of a conversation while they get lost in their phone. It's such a mock-up of real life, it's hard not to laugh.

And of course, this is launch day, after all. There are a few glitchy, weird things that happen, but I'm sure these are kinks that will work out in the near future. This game does not appear to me as having been "rushed" or as being "unfinished."

I truly do not understand what all of the negative fuss was over. I'm not sure how these people were so disappointed. I recommend that if you're curious to see how it plays, go and get it. I know it's a bit of money and you don't want to be let down, but I know I'm glad I did it. You can always download & pay for it through Origin, and then if you really do hate it, get your money back through the "great game guarantee" or whatever they advertise. Take other reviews with a grain of salt, because something seems fishy to me.

So, bottom line, I give it 8/10. The two points were lost for the opportunities that the developers missed when creating the game (which we have all been discussing at length), and because the base sims games are never as cool as it gets in the 2-4 years after release. Form your own opinion of it before you complain about it!!

I have been off work for both yesterday and today, and I have unashamedly binged on TS4. I wasn't going to purchase the game because of the press reviews being held back, but I couldn't resist CD Keys offering it for £25. It is massively overpriced on Origin IMO. I really didn't think the little extras of the deluxe bundle or whatever is worth the extra money, especially for just handful of silly items.

I have a late 2011 15" MacBook Pro top spec, running Windows 7 on Bootcamp, and have been able to run the game with high settings, ultra settings makes it sound like it's going to take off. I know many are frustrated with TS4 not being available on Mac, I for one am not. TS3 ran terribly on my Mac OS, and crashed constantly. I (unhappily) Bootcamped my Mac just for The Sims 3 & Simcity, TS3 ran so much smoother and looked massively better graphically, and haven't looked back.

The game looks beautiful, and runs fantastically, and I am sure that this is not just down to my computer spec, it's just the way the game is built. I am so happy that I can quickly jump into my sims game without having to wait about 5-10 minutes for the main loading screen like TS3. I have not once experienced a bug/glitch/crash/hang, I wouldn't have been able to say this if I had been playing TS3 for around 20 hours like I have TS4 so far.

Sure, loading screens are more frequent, but they are literally 5-15 seconds long... We aren't talking minutes! Sure, it's not an open world, but I would rather an individual lot being loaded at once and have a smooth gameplay experience with my Sims, rather than a laggy one due to my machine constantly processing areas of the game I am not even looking at.

Build/Buy mode I have found to be pretty great. I love that they have finally integrated build mode and buying mode, the integration is flawless. In regards to the catalogue of stuff available, I haven't been too disappointed, I've found that there's plenty of stuff for a BASE game. Most disappointing thing for me is no dishwashers or trash compactors, I find washing up/taking out the trash nearly as annoying as the real life tasks! I really like being able to buy pre-built rooms. If you just want a quick build or extension, it's a great option to use.

I understand people's views that it may be lacking in content, but we must remember this is a base game, it's a foundation for great things to come. It will cost money, but it's always been the way The Sims has worked.

Emotions and multi-tasking are nice new touches, but don't affect my gameplay too much. I have nearly reached the top of the Tech Guru, and also the Astronaut careers, and have found it fun and challenging. I'm not too disappointed with the removal of "rabbit holes", to me they were not useful, and added little depth in the first place, I do just kinda miss getting in the car rather than just disappearing. I have honestly not once used the "motherlode" cheat, and have only on occasion used "rosebud", and have been really just working hard to explore the career ladders and earn honest simoleons, without becoming bored and resorting to cheating!

The discovery of the Forgotten Grotto and the Sylvan Glade is pretty cool, and can't wait to see if any other little easter eggs/hidden places are in the game!

TLDR: I think that The Sims 4 is a solid foundation for future expansion. The engine/behind the scenes stuff is super smooth, and loading times are short and sweet, hopefully remaining short after future expansions. I have not got bored with the content currently available in the base game after around 20+ hours of gameplay. However, I wouldn't say it's worth the £50-60+ from Origin, look around.

I was reading all these overwhelmingly horrible reviews when my game was downloading and was wondering whether that many reviewers could actually just be whining or that the game was really going to be that bad. The answer is that its not that bad, I've enjoyed it so far as much as I've enjoyed any of the previous Sims.

The lack of the open world, the loading screens, no toddlers, etc.

The lack of the open world, the loading screens, no toddlers, etc. these are all legitimate criticisms that I've had myself. But I have to say the loading screen situation is bearable, not the way I would have wanted it, but it works.

In the Sims 3 when you went somewhere in your car or got picked up it was like the time in the car was a loading screen anyway. Its not like you could drive your car around. The disappointment for me is that they didn't go in the direction of improving the open world concept when the could have with Sims 4 and instead went back to the loading screens.

Everything else seems improved to me with the exception of create a style being gone. I wonder who's bright idea that was? But can still generally get things to look good, they have a variety of built it color combinations for building and clothes.

I don't buy any of the expansions and comparing the Sims 4 to the Sims 3 base game it seems to have a similar amount of content with improved graphics and a lot of new interactions.

It is important for The Sims 4 to be considered a game of it's own accord, not a sequel to the other Sims games. However, I know that is now the case for many fans who are completely unhappy with the look and feel of The Sims 4. The game was pushed to the limit with their deadline, a common knowledge, and it was not fully finished. I too was initially unhappy and was extremely critical of the game's possible outcome.

Since then, I have played the game itself and have come to the understanding that this is a separate game. It will take time for some people to even adjust to the new mechanics. The feel of The Sims has a complete overhaul of micro management that you can put as much or as little focus in as you want.

Emotions: As we've been drilled into our heads, the new -emotions- actually play a large part in what our Sims actually will/want to do and how they go about finishing it. Many people have compared this to the aspirations/wants/fears/whims that we've had in previous installments of The Sims series and they are correct in some regard. The emotion affects not just what the sim wants, but how they appear, how they interact with other sims, how they make their food, how they paint, how they even go to the restroom. This is definitely a feature that can be considered a 'hassle' by some fans that might prefer the strategist type of playing and for those that also like to fast forward through the game as the sims build skills, cook, and so on.

Missing Content: Pools, toddlers, CASt, and so on. The babies are tied to a bassinet that you can only interact with when standing in front of it. However, when you consider it a new game first and a sequel second, the review should focus on what the game has, not what it doesn't have. I will make note that every Sim game has began as a base and worked back in the expansions that The Sims fans has come to love. This one is no different.

Build/Buy Mode: The word intuitive is truly the catch all for the new build/buy mode of The Sims 4. They have completely revamped the way rooms and houses work to give fans the features they so desired from the past games. Ability to move rooms and full houses with just a click and drag of the button. There are more details than before, fences that can curve, and a built in "MOO" (Move Objects On) hotkey that allows easier placement of items. There is even a hotkey to increase/decrease size of an object so if you ever wanted a huge llama hedge in your front lawn, you may now rejoice. As a subpar builder myself, I found myself easily able to create what I considered a masterpiece of a house easily. Objects are easier to place closer together due to improved routing (but that will be discussed in a moment).

The Gallery: This is the feature of being able to upload/download sim households, lots, and rooms with a click of the button to/from the cloud. It features a tab to keep your own personal content in "My Library" that isn't publicly shared, let's you follow others (Origin friends are automatically followed), and is Custom Content free. Players can place hashtags on their content to make it easier to search for. The Gallery is lacking in features such as searching for sims based on weight, age, skin tone, traits, and so on.

Achievements/Unlocks/Collectibles: There are special rewards for careers and achievements that can unlock items for rooms, skill building items, outfits, and entire premade rooms themselves. This is a joy for the completionist Simmer that likes having -all- the things. There are even venues that can be found by observing a strange tree and interacting with it, or building your handiness up to the max and breaking into an old mine shaft. These venues cannot have lots placed into them, but have special collectibles that can only be found there. They are aesthetically pleasing, but lacking in things to interact with.

Smart Sims/Routing: Routing has always made The Sims feel blocky in previous installments. These sims still turn on a heel but are quicker to respond to action queues than other Sims games. They respond nearly immediately and smoothly adjust into the new action in the queue. Sims will move from one seat to the other between actions while having a conversation and sims will move through each other if necessary. It definitely needs some tweaks.

Loading Screens: These are short (10-15 sec) and minimally intrusive, a trade off to improve gameplay across the game by repopulating lots that are loaded and minimizing framerate drop. And indeed, the lots are bustling and there is plenty of area to explore outside of each individual lot itself. Neighborhoods are open to explore and interact in while each individual lot requires loading.

Overall: The Sims 4 is a good -base game- that will lay the foundation of more to come in its future. It feels more interactive and hilarious. The first Sims game that I wanted to play in normal speed.

Initially I wasn't sure what to expect. I have played Sims since the start, and was excited for this one to come out, too. There are things missing, yes. -Build Mode is a little clunky at first until you get used to the controls. I like adjusting wall heights and foundation heights. I love spanners and building decorations. I'm still looking for a way to do a split level house. I do miss basements and adjusting the landscape.

-Create a Sim is alright, initially it feels like you pick less traits and such, but once you are in gameplay and you see how the sim "lives" with the choices you made it makes sense.

    - I really like how they made traits and aspirations push the sims ambition. I also liked the mini-assignments you get for each level of a career path, like making an excellent grilled cheese sandwich to advance a cooking career.

    - Relationships in Sims 4 really are enhanced. I like how there is a separate romantic bar and friendship bar. The sims really do seem "smarter" and have a bit more depth than in previous versions.

-I miss Create A Style. I do, but I have faith that mods or expansions will give us more options in the future.

    - Gardening... yes it is here in a base version!! I'm still working on it but I can't wait to graft plants together!

Overall, to anyone reading this review, give the game a chance on your own time. If you do pick it up, look at it through the lens of a new game, not an old game revisited. I'll probably spend time in Sims 3 as well, but Sims 4 is a good base in its own right and I do not regret the purchase.

I'd like to start out by saying that I am no Sims veteran. I played the third installment of The Sims casually but never quite got into the game as much as say, Civilization V but that's just the result of personal taste. I played the third installment of The Sims casually but never quite got into the game as much as say, Civilization V but that's just the result of personal taste. I was very excited for this latest installment of The Sims, though. This was primarily because I had begun to realize the depth of The Sims 3 and it looked like MAXIS was going in a new direction with this game.

Now that the game has released, I can say that I find it to be a rather good game. Sure, a large number of clothing customization features have been removed as well as free access to every area of the town and even the town size (which I was really surprised at how small the towns now are) But I feel that some of these "step-backs" were implemented for very useful reasons.

My machine cost me over $2000 to build. It can run Battlefield 4 on ultra settings with super-sampling enabled. Though this is the case, I was plagued with extremely long load times, freezes, and lag that really didn't make much sense since the Sims 3 was a 2009 game and all of my hardware is top of the line from 2013. I can honestly say that in the Sims 4 I have never once experienced any noticeable performance drops which is very nice.

I also feel that the graphics in the game are a nice change. Colors are much more vibrant and I honestly prefer the look of the sims in this game as opposed to those in The Sims 3. Often times I would get this uncomfortable "uncanny valley" feel while playing The Sims 3 as the graphics were relatively realistic but at the same time obviously not real life. The sims in The Sims 4 though, are much more cartoon-like and while this may not appeal to everyone, I feel that the exaggerated expressions and body language of these new sims is a pleasant step in a new direction that doesn't necessarily kill immersion while at the same time adding a gorgeous new approach to your sims. In fact, I think the whole game is darn pretty.

I also feel that the customization is a big tradeoff. On one hand, you have the massive depth increase in creating your sims. I've found personally that the create-a-sim in the game is very open ended and just plain fun to mess around with making all kinds of characters. But on the other hand, you have a total lack of customization when it comes to clothes colors. In fact, this is probably one of the most frustrating parts of the game. Sure, you can still make thousands of clothing combinations but really, only about a quarter of those actually look good or make any sense at all. I've found myself styling all of my sims rather similarly and this is just boring. One of the best things about the Sims 3 was the amount of clothing options. Though I am guessing that in later updates (and inevitable "stuff" packs) there will be slews of new clothing which will make up for the general lack of customization in this area.

I do have to say that MAXIS really has done a great job of revamping the whole Build-Mode. Everything in it is much more accessible and fluid. Gone are the days of having to cheat to make half blocks. I feel that this is one area I was really pleasantly surprised to find different and better. House building has never been my strong suit especially because of the level of trivia that was necessary to really comprehend everything about house-making. But now it's been made a lot easier to use without taking away any of the depth that it had before.

The new objective-based Lifetime Wish/Rewards system is really awesome. It no longer feels like just droning away with max-speed on like it was in The Sims 3. Now the game manages to incorporate a lot of the depth that wasn't necessarily apparent in The Sims 3 into your Lifetime Wishes without making it feel like you're being forced to meet specific criteria to complete objectives. I've actually found myself not checking the Lifetime Wish/Rewards panel as often as I did with the Journal in the Sims 3 but still completing objectives. This is really nice because it gives the player a level of autonomy while also guiding you to explore all the areas your sim's skills can be applied.

To wrap this up I have to say that I am generally happy with the way The Sims 4 has released. Sure, it has it's problems but it is in no way deserving of some of the ratings it has received from users. In fact, I'd say a large portion of these reviews were heat of the moment, emotion-packed, rants the likes of which you'd probably get from a child who didn't get a cookie in his lunch. So I think it's safe to say that this game has improved in a number of ways but also leaves room for improvement that we will probably see in the dozens of expansions this game will have. So I would recommend this game to any veteran fans of the series as well as those who have never played The Sims before. Just keep an open mind.

I have devoted close to 20 hours of my life since the game came out and that is even having to work 11 hour shifts this past week. The game really draws you into your Sims. I noticed I care less about designing custom house and more of actually playing my Sims. Large house holds are more fun and easier to handle then in the Previous games. With that being sad I will say the AI in the Sims 4 is really dopy. My Sims when trying to do things on their own with out me commanding them will be very glitchy and very ignorant of what they are doing. I have had my Sims pick up a dirty plate and just move it to another room, then pick it up again and then wash it. Then the Emotion system is very cool and fun to mess with. It helps your Sims build their aspiration quicker and skills as well. Creating the sims is pretty amazing and very basic at the same time. The amount you can morph and twist is astonishing. You can create a PERFECT face if you are willing to spend the time doing so. But after you have created their face and sculpted there body...... Then it becomes very basic. There seems to be too few outfits with too few color options. I find myself accidentally putting different Sims in close to the same outfits. I have mistaken Random Sims for my Sims friends cause they are wearing the same cloths. So hope to see many new outfits come to the Sims 4 with Expansions.

Overall Playing your Sims has never been been this much fun.

Creating house is fun in the Sims 4 but at times feels like it was on the bottom of the list. It almost feels like we reverted back to the Sims 1 in some ways. There is still a lot of tools to use and you can change the color of items but only a selective choice. I really wanted to see the old Color scheme setup from the Sims 3. Don't get me wrong Making house is still a lot of fun.... But it doesn't engage me like the Older Sims games has. I keep finding myself building just a simple boxy house with what my Sims need for their daily life's and that is about it. I will say one cool new feature is the Pre-Made rooms. So now when you feel REALLY lazy just click drop and rotate into place and BAM, you gotta a themed kitchen. After doing this once or twice It does get a bit stale with so limited of choices.

Overall Creating House is cool, but not as good as it could have been

The game-play mechanics are the more engaging and frustrating things in the Sims 4. You will be constantly fixing a toilet once a day, cleaning up spoiled dishes left in weird places. Having other Sims randomly walking into you're house if you are friends, that's how friends get shot these days. There are dozens of little things that just drive you up the wall while playing the Sims 4, But this is shadowed by all the amazing things now. You can really tell Maxis/EA dumped some money into this engine. The emotion system is very well thought through. Will say at first when getting used to it, you're Sim will be acting like a PMS'ing prom queen, 900 emotions at once. But as you learn how to use it, it becomes amazing feeling. It gives you more power with you're Sims. Its always funny to watch you're angry Sim go out in the middle of the street and start yelling at a random jogger, Or just start flirting with their roommates Spouse cause they took a shower. One of the things I thought was real brilliant is conversations. Now if when you're Sims do certain things it can make or break the conversation. Skill Building and Careers has never been this much fun neither. I used to dread starting new Sims cause it felt like all I did was Work out and make friends and be stuck at my Sims house. Now You're jobs don't need lvl 10 Cooking to be good at you're job. Each job level has its own little Goals to help you get promoted. So you are no longer just stuck having to read books and star gaze to get the job you're Sims wants. The Aspiration system is just WOW. I notice myself more focus on Getting my Sims Aspiration fufilled more then I did in the Sims 2/3. Instead of just one BIG goal you have a bunch of smaller goals to achieve, then when you get done with one..... You can start another! Thats one things in older Sims games I noticed. My Sim is not the leader of the Free World..... What do I do know.... Weight Lifting time.... Then new Sim.... So very happy with the new Aspiration system

Overall the Game play is Amazing and very engaging, but should have spent more time looking at the Ignorant AI system.

The Sims 4 is missing a bunch of content that you got in Sims 2/3. We are all sad about this, but you just need to pick up the game and play it for a few hours. It took me about 3-4 hours to get really hooked.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For those of you who don't remember, The Sims 3 launch initially didn't have many features/items either. Maxis/EA eventually added them later in expansion packs/updates.

Now as for The Sims 4 - the Create-A-Sim function is vastly improved - the sheer amount of sim customization is mind-boggling. The ability to change clothing & furniture textures and customize clothing colors is absent at the moment (will probably be released later in some kind of free update) but this is adequate for the time being.

The new Build mode is also a huge upgrade. Gone are the days of spending 6+ hours building and furnishing a massive mansion for your sim. Build mode now allows a player to plop a fully furnished room and drag out the sides to either increase or decrease the size of the room.

Another huge improvement is the graphics - woohoo baby! The sims look like real people (gone are the unrealistic jagged edges from The Sims 3) The lighting inside homes and buildings is spot on fantastic.

If you are unsure about buying this - wait a few weeks/months and then pick it up (give the developers a chance to tweak a few things/release updates).

Base games in the Sims series have always been a clean slate as compared to its predecessors so you have to look at this game subjectively. When bad reviews are given on the precedent of lacking features from previous iterations with all EP/SP ect. it is unfair and extremely bias. I suggest watching live streams of game play via youtube or twitch if you are still on the fence about the Sims 4. No review or article can replace first hand experience. Just because one review likes or doesn't like something doesn't mean that you yourself will also hate it. I had to give this game and 8 out of 10 for the missing features (toddlers and pools) because that is the only thing that has annoyed me thus far. The loading screens I prefer over the Sims 3 due to the fact of less freezing and having to rely on modders to fix my borked game. I typically have loading times of 10-15 seconds. Expand

Well let's hop into the gameplay, for me personally I think EA did an amazing job improving interaction between sims. The sims feel a lot more realistic to their surroundings and their mood changes ways more like in real life (which is a huge unexpected plus for me). The building of houses is much more advanced and suprisingly it is also made more easy to do.

The fact there is no open world and the world is now divided in different parts...well, for me isn't any bad thing since it makes the game run so smoothly and loading screens just take a few seconds as mentioned before. Like all other The Sims games the game lacks a slight bit in content at the beginning but I think compared to the others it's a decent amount of hours you get for your money.
No toddlers? I don't care, for me it has always been one of the most boring stages and it didn't really contribute anything interesting to the game.

My conclusion is that The Sims 4 is a very well done sequal of the series and deserves a much better score than most reviewers give it.

The game needs to be looked at as a base game where they are going to be building on it for the next few years or so and not as a full game. Sims1,2,3 base games all are very barebones with little to do in them but as they got expansions the game grew more and more to be fuller and fuller.

I would say that if you are wanting more content, wait for a few EPs to come out, if you want to hop right on in and get your feet wet and learn some of the cool new features and understanding how things are working, then by all means purchase this.

Still you may want to wait for the price to drop or some additional content to start rolling out if you're unsure about purchasing the game.

    The Long:
It's an EA game, so there's been a lot of bandwagon-backlash against it well before it was even released and that seems to echo here. A quick glance at the review dates should be enough indication of how long people actually bothered to give the game a chance, instead of just rushing to try and damage the developer's reputation based on what they've read.

After actually playing the game for a few days and giving it a chance, I've found that many of the "missing features" (from the often cited blog post) are gone but not missed at all. They certainly weren't necessary to the enjoyment of the series. The map is a prime example; it's more or less a static image now and at first glance it feels like its missing a lot of buildings. In retrospect though, its merely removed the useless filler in favor of better performance and faster loading times. Gone are the long non-interactive drives that were previously required just to watch my Sim disappear into a "rabbit hole" for an even longer period of time. Travel in the Sims 4 is now a quicker loading screen that helps cut to the real meat and potatoes of the game; actual Sim Interaction.

This is where the Sims 4 takes the series really shines over previous titles. Emotions now help drive interactions with the world and other Sims, which can either give you minor goals if you are in control (like trying to recover yourself after an awkward encounter), or will simply make the autonomous interactions more entertaining to watch. The ability to multitask is a highly welcome addition to the series as well, as it allows characters to go about their days in a much more natural way instead of feeling so robotic. Technology plays a greater role in the world allowing cellphones and computers to handle far more tasks and play a bigger role than in previous titles.

Visually the game has a simple but pleasant style to it, especially with the characters. The world has a certain 'box'-quality to all the shapes, but its very consistent and helps establish a style that should age slower and run well on a wide variety of hardware. Like the models, the animations go further to add additional emphasis where it can. This helps sell both the exaggerated style of Sims 4, along with the new emotions. The create a style is currently (and unfortunately) missing, but the default styles of furniture and tile sets help make up for it. This time around the textures and color schemes are significantly better by default, making it easier to create nice looking houses faster without having to customize everything. Its possible I only used it in Sims 3 because the default counters were so horrendous. Still, it would be nice to see an improved CAS system roll out in the future to add even more customization to the world.

It's true, Sims 4 unfortunally have lost some features that are present in every game of the saga, but it's, at the same time, the best Sims game ever made. And with EP and the free update to get the pool, this game could be a hit!

What the sims is is still there and that at least is still promising. CAS is fantastic and is the best ive ever seen for creating a character in any game. Build mode alows you to build AMAZING houses no matter what skill. In previous sims games my houses were horrible and compared to other simers they were garbage but in sims 4 I am able to build houses that match those even with the most skill. Emotions add a fantastic new depth to the game never reached before and tied with the muilty-tasking make it a great game. Also this is the most beautiful Sims game to date. With these reasons is why if I ever go back to Sims 3, I feel that the emotions and muilty tasking and its cartoonish art style will be very missed if going back to sims 3. I feel more connected to my sims and it is something I though sims 3 lacked, while sims 2 got that just right, and it finally returned with sims 4. Unfortunally, the only reason why this is not a 9, or even a 10 is because it is missing stuff. I did love the open world of sims 3 and I actually have been very forgiving of the loading screens in sims 4 since they are very short and sims 2 is my favourite sims game and it had loading screen so it is not a problem. But if it has to load the house right beside me that is in the same area. I can literally walk up to a house but to step into the lot I need to load the house. I feel if it was just open world for just the area you were in, it would have been improved immensely. Also I dont see what all the fuss is about cars, there is really no need for them and walking is fine. I dont care about toddler's though, in both sims 2 and 3 I tried to rush that stage as fast I could because I thought it was boring and unconnected me from the rest of the game so I am glad it was not included but I do not accept the way a baby is an object(what is this sims 1?). Pools will be missed though since they were greatly fun especially at parties. Also create a style. I loved making new styles for my sims, and to match their personality and the pasterns and colours feel limited.

Sims 4 is still a great game though, it is challenged by problems yes but for me the pros outweigh the cons making this my Favourite sims base game to date, and not to Mention how much smoother it runs then sims 3. On the same computer I can run sims 4 on ultra and get 60 FPS while sims 3 was on medium and it was lucky if it reached 30.

I hope long time players (like I) give this a shot, maybe at least when the price is reduced, because it still is a great game and has a lot of potential to become the best in the series.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was a The Sims 2 lover and self-proclaimed pro (built an empire from zero to millionaires and no, I didn't cheat) and I was a The Sims 3 hater and quitter. If you are somewhat like me, you are going to love Sims 4. If you prefere the neighbourhood-focused, eagle-eye type of gaming (and did I mention nasty neighbourhood-focus?) that was in the Sims 3 you're probably going to dislike it... With the Sims 4 it depends on what your preferences were with the old games.

I read many reviews before deciding on if I should put my hard earned money on this game and I wasn't so tempted to do so after I got so disappointed with Sims 3. But my oh my am I happy that I decided to buy. IT IS LIKE THE SIMS 2, but MUCH BETTER!

    WHAT HAS IMPROVED:
The sims are much more complex, they can multitask, they are more fun to work with and develop. The architectural tools are precise and fullfilled, the build-your-sim-tool obviously the best so far with the minor letdown of no height adjustement (and strange fact that the teenagers are as tall as adults?). The many small tedeous details that were so time-consuming from earlier games have dissapeared, for example how easy the Sims pick up plates to how you can pay bills and choose to travel from your cellphone, you don't have to wait an eternity for a visitor, it's possible and easy to visit another lot and control your home-lot at the same time, people around your household also get older when you do (and you can switch that function off but I think it makes the game more real), you control music playing from the radio without the sim having to do anything, you can eazy breazy breastfeed your baby (yeye because I'm a momma!), I could go on and on. Simply improved and more fluent gaming!

I've read many complaints about the personalization tools from Sims 3 being gone (well I think it's a big relief) and that you don't get much stuff in the game and I think that is incorrect. The Sims 3 personalization tool was too heavy, took forever to load, had too much to choose and after a while you would just say "f*ck it, I don't care" and stop using it. You get a lot of clothes, furniture and stuff with Sims 4 and many choices of colour and design for each product which makes the personalization of your home and clothing much more comfortable yet stimulating. I also like how much furniture gets unlocked depending on your sims development. The career climbs and assignements are much more fun then ever before and you have to lead a pretty complex fake-real life in the game to reach you goals!

BIG plus for that your different households can interact with each other which makes it even easier to control the destiny of your family.

    WHAT I THINK NEEDS IMPROVEMENT:
The career choices are far too few to match all the types of sims you can build. For example my bodybuilder-bro sportsloving guy, would he be a secret agent/astronaut/journalist irl? No, I think he would be a carpenter, a plumber, maybe working as a fitness guru. I mean come on, why can you be a stand-up comedian but not a doctor, teacher, handyman or even gold digger? Why can't you choose more current careers like personal trainer, reality star, fashion designer, office bearer aso. It will all probably (hopefully!) come with the expansion packages (since EA Games are greedy bastards....) but ultimately I think it was a case of "let's just pick it and run with it" when it comes to the careers you can choose. Somewhat rushed.

It is quite disturbing as a gamer and viewer that the teenagers look exactly like adults and are of the same height... That should definitely get changed in the next update, with all the realness updates this is a backlash in the irl-departement. Also I was furious when I first read about the lack of toddlers before I bought this game, and now after playing and building a sims-family, I think it isn't as bad as I thought but also a stepback when it comes to the realness of the game. I mean if my life-ambition is a big happy family, how can I fully enjoy my ambition without having memories of having fun with little todleroos? I doesn't have to be that profound, it can be as easy as having babies but you simply have toddlers, please EA Games?

The only tool I wish was more complex for personalization is the hair/eye colouring tool... Now I simply can't hit the spot when designing my favourite celeb, myself or real people I know.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT, a review by someone that focuses on MY family, MY empire, MY household, MY gaming. With the Sims 4 I have much more control and I can be more focused then with The Sims 3, yet the game is much more fluent and complex then the Sims 2.

20 hours now and here are my impressions:

    The Good:
    - Performance! So much faster, even with the loading screens
    - Build Mode is awesome! I can finally build something nice looking. The re-sizable rooms help a lot for remodeling.
    - Multi-tasking allows me to FINALLY manage all my sims' needs and wants in a large household.
    - I play the game more slowly - I really enjoying actually playing my sims for once. Instead of just speeding through on ultra speed, I find myself taking my time and wanting to fulfill the sims whims and aspirations. and relationship interactions are great.

    The Bad:
    - Obviously less content and I should at least be able to change colors of things
    - Lack of family tree and memories
    - Feel like the sims can get away with too much. I had a sim who was living with and having woohoo with two brothers, one of which she was married to. No one said a thing...

    The verdict:
I'm very glad I bought this game. At 17 hours, I have still only scratched the surface. I have yet to see a sim die. There are so many things I haven't done yet and I'm looking forward to doing more. I'm actually excited for the expansion packs. I feel like the base game of TS4 is so much better than any base game yet and I think after it's not so trendy to bash the game anymore, people will come around and say this is the best sims game yet.

It gets so much negative feedback. Be honest this game is like a 7 or 8 out of 10, not a 3 out of 10. I like this game a bit. It's not as good as the Sims 3, but it's good. I would get in when it's like $39.99, but not $59.99 or $69.99.

For one, the mood system is a notable improvement over the single-axis system. Moodlets can build off of each other, and there are four distinct, positive moods to be had. Inspired, Excited, Happy, and Flirty. I cannot say how it is in the long-term, but quite frankly my first impression is favorable enough to give this a solid 8, though truthfully I'd sooner go for 7.5.

The fact that there are no open neighborhoods is something of a half-truth. Specifically, there are, 'Blocks' that you can visit. Not the actual in-game term, but there are subsections of the neighborhood that you can go to. These are relatively open, and short loading screens separate each individual lot. My loading times were only a second or two, giving a better sense of freedom than expected. In short: Yes. It's not the Sims 3. But it's nowhere near the Sims 2, like everyone is decrying it as.

Thirdly: Lack of features. EA has mostly fixed this, as of June 2015, and here I am playing just the base game. Pools are a thing, basements are a thing, ghosts are a thing, even the open world has an acceptable (Note: Acceptable, not complete and very good) sense of freedom. Some of the expansion pack jobs even allow you to follow your sim to work, from the looks of it. People have been requesting that for the longest time.

Overall: I think EA is starting to realize that you can't ship a half-finished game. Yes, they realized it after launch? But they still realized it in this case, as the Sims being their cash cow, they can't afford to screw it up too badly, for too long. Otherwise, it'd stop being their cash cow.

I love how each sim feels very unique and actually have a personality, if you give them certain traits their personality and choices reflect that without your input unlike sims 3 where every sim felt like exactly the same and required your input to progress them.

I love that the neighborhood is segmented into different areas so the game overall runs extremely smooth and my fps never drops even if their is a huge party with tons of sims. My load screens only last 3 or 4 seconds so no complaints about that.

I am extremely hopeful that Maxis will introduce expansion packs to expand the seasons and the generations so I can watch my sims grow up and go to school live an entire life cycle, that's the only thing that the game is missing in my opinion.

Sims 4 is a huge step forward in the core mechanics, graphics, and A.I. but it also lost all of its previous expansions and content but the game will continue to grow and improve with time.

I think it's harsh that some critics say there is violence in the game. There is no blood, nothing is broken and (my personal feeling) fights are extremly rare and again, look comic.

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.
