Unnecessary amount of updates. The Sims is only a game I play intermittently and only for an hour or two at a time. Every single time I want to play I have to wait. Sometimes it's just not worth it and I end up going months without playing.

I remember the first time I launched Sims 3 . I was astonished, it was awesome! The ability of walking in the world freely was the best part of the game. And they took it away from us. There is a lot of content, but the awkward game mechanics and massive number of bugs/issues constantly bog down the gameplay experience. Different skills and activities are also very poorly balanced - among the creative skills writing is basically a money printing license while music is basically useless even though they take similar amounts of time and effort. This really limits what your sim can do if you're aiming to be as successful as you can. Of course, there's also the trait system which can turn your sim into a perfect inhuman cyborg with no needs beyond fun and bladder in relatively short order.
If you're not a fan of The Sims I would not recommend starting now. If you are you're probably already playing this so whatever.

Seriously, EA? How the hell do you manage to drop the ball even on this one? Do you even care about making fun games at all anymore, or is it all about advertising and cashing out on whatever IP you can trash in the process? Good game development aside, how is being that myopic even a good business model?

Mac users have completely been left out of the loop on this one and should consider themselves spared rather than woefully neglected. Speaking of woefully neglected - let's talk about The Sims 4! EA has once again outdone itself by releasing an incomplete game that feels like a step back with missing features, unresolved bugs and a required Origin account. It's sad to see such a great franchise run into the ground. But hey everyone, don't worry - the missing features will eventually be made available in an endless procession of expansion packs, DLC and add-ons. If they release a Grim Reaper & Ghosts add-on for under $5 (yes, I know I'm dreaming, it'll be at least $30), I'll up my rating to a 2. ;) Sad to see this happen, but not at all surprised. I rated it a 1 rather than a zero because I liked some of the new features (namely Create a Sim), but the missing features make it feel like an incomplete game (even the first Sims had pools!), so I can't justify giving it any higher than a 1 unless EA actually listens to player outcry and adds in the missing features in a free "apology download." (HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Yeah, I know, it's a faint hope that's about as likely as winning the lottery). Expand

Most of the content has been removed. It is a substantial backward step from Sims 3 which was itself a backward step from Sims 2, the best version of the game.

I suspect that in future you will be able to buy back most of the content that came as standard in Sims 2. But at the costs of hundreds of dollars.

    Avoid this rip off.

The "only" thing TS4 has going for it is "Create-A-Sim" and "Building." That's it. The actual gameplay is boring, shallow, and unrealistic. If it weren't for all the TS4 modders, House builders, and YouTubers, TS4 would be dead. No one would even play it.

As for updates, it's all garbage. They are trying to implement Story Progression, but it's not working. It's still lame. And guess what EA is releasing for TS4 this summer... more kits! Yay! NOT! Move on EA. Give us TS5 already and make it like TS4 should have been.

But no... sadly this is the full retail version of The Sims 4. I even went ahead and got the premium pack. I actually figured with or without the pack there should still be a decent amount of items to place in your house hold. You want to know the truth? This game has less items than the first Sims. I will admit the multitasking of sims is very cool, but it's the only polished thing in the entire game. Even the options menu is sad. It has about as many options as an early 90's DOS game. There really isn't much you can do at all with the sims themselves.... what they can do is more entertaining than ever to watch the first few times. From what I could see there is really no outdoor activities at all. Yada yada but you know what the saddest thing about this is? You just know that in a few years and after $1,000 of expansion packs this will be a good game.... and that's the problem.... this first incarnation of The Sims 4 is nothing but bate to advertise future DLC. On some developer's computer somewhere there is a fully functional and much improved Sims 4.... but sadly only if you are sucker enough to buy every expansion and DLC even after this insult - will most of you ever have enough patience to see it.

Despite having the tutorial, (which if you click off of it goes away until you randomly do whatever it asked you to do.) It assumes you know what to do, and it tries to empower the user with "freedom" and flexibility, but instead you end up missing parts like changing body parts. You see the dials for muscles & fat, but clicking on the body parts and adjusting them at different angles? Well I hope you intuitively know where they are and what their abilities are b/c there is nothing to queue you to their functionality. Again I've been playing with the CAS demo extensively, but in the production version of the game there is no natural flow.

My biggest complaint is that there is far less control in general. You have only the pre-determined styles and there's no room to custom or alter ANYTHING.

Like that shirt or counter top but want to make it a shade lighter? Too bad! You get these 5 options we've created.
Want to make that metal object, wood? #SorryNotSorry
What a design on that lampshade? So long as it's white, sure!

There are 1/20th selection of anything, except random crap you don't care about. There are 6 counter/island styles, but 19 stove hood styles. Seriously?

Standard things are missing. Like? Dishwashers. Under counter, trash compactors. Classic double kitchen sink. Not-hanging ceiling lights (i.e. standard flush mounted can lights)

The new mouse/camera controls are weird. You can change them back to Sims 3 style but since you're missing pitch/tilt it doesn't make much sense.

I am so frustrated by the complete lack of *everything* I rage-quit while setting up my house. Something that I could do for hours in all previous versions.

I spent nearly all of last weekend in The Sims 3, making a really cool new house. Making sure that the wood of the bedroom furniture was the same style and color. Pulling tones from bed fabrics and using them in curtains and wall colors. Making sure the metal of the kitchen counter knobs was the same metal and hue as the light fixtures and the appliances.

All of the subtle details that made The Sims 3 a fantastic customizable world are COMPLETELY lacking in The Sims 4.

They completely screwed up the worlds too. Instead of having a cohesive world, you have the vague notion of a world with out of scale venues in neighborhoods. In order to go anywhere or see your world you have to use your phone. Instead of getting in your car or summoning a taxi you go to a load screen and appear at the venue. You cannot seamlessly travel within the world only in the neighborhood. I feel like I am using an internal alpha and not a released game.

With the Sims 3 I loved trading patterns in the Exchange and getting new buildings or furniture that would have new patterns that I could customize and apply in existing buildings or clothing. I loved being able to choose that SPECIAL shade of green for my Sims eyes, deep green but vibrant. I missing selecting hair color and adding subtle highlights and low-lights.

I've spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars, buying every expansion pack, every new world, every stuff pack and new set and venue in The Sims 3 store.

The entire reason I loved playing this game, the customizing of houses, and furniture and clothes and the people ... all of that has been decimated to what can only be described as bare bones, poor-mans replica.

I want to throw money at EA like I did with The Sims 3, but until I can change the shade of purple in a shirt, or matchy-match my furniture, I have no reason or desire to. I am heart broken that the newest version of my favorite game is only a shell of it's former glory.

All of that is gone, and until it's back, I am too.

    Damn, so disappointing.

Oh EA. You know it's sad when you make a game so bad that I feel the need to let everyone know why it sucks...

They left out: Cars, open worlds, CAST, repair man, pools, toddlers, hills, burglars, cemeteries, color wheel, ghosts, the move object on/off cheat, schools, work places and MANY other things...

But here are some major PROS:
-Origins gallery is AMAZING. You can almost instantly bring households and homes into the game.
-Emotions are a lot more in depth, but this can also be frustrating..

But let me just share with you my first 6 or so hours of gameplay.

I started off in CAS (Create-a-Sim) in hopes to make a normal, married couple. First thing I noticed was that the color wheel was missing... I always took it for granted in The Sims 3, but then I realized how important it was in the creativity aspect of the game. I had a hard time finding heels that matched my dress, lipstick that matched my heels.. just simple stuff. Which also applies to everything in the house. It is very frustrating getting items to match eachother. I guess it's good that you can switch between the two worlds there are.. which are pathetically small.. But wait! There's more! Sub-sections in each world in which there are about 5 lots each, in which you need to sit through a loading screen each time you switch between them. You need your phone (which you automatically get, not earn) in order to go anywhere. There are no cars, and you cannot see your workplace, or the school; Your sims just vanish and come back later. One good thing is you can super-speed through the night when everyone in the household is sleeping. If one person is napping, and one is sleeping, this doesn't work. Same goes with working. You need to complete certain challenges before advancing in careers.. which take up a lot of time.

Emotions: I don't like how some traits now have some negative connotations with them. For example, being a slob means dirty surroundings don't bother you, yet your sim causes things to get dirtier faster around the house.. and this goes with about half the traits (if I remember correctly, apologizes if I'm wrong).

    There were a few glitches...
    1. My sim was signaling there was something in the way when she tried to get in bed, when there wasn't.
    2. My sim was signaling there was something in the way when trying to get inside the house... when there wasn't.

Making a house seems like it would be better but it really isn't even fun anymore because the sense of creativity is gone with how easy it is.

If I got more into how many things were missing from this game, you'd be reading this for hours.

When playing The Sims 3 base game for the first time, I was on it for weeks, thoroughly entertained. With The Sims 4 I got bored very fast and didn't know what to do with my sims within 4 or 5 hours, so I just made sims and rooms to post to the gallery.

It's all missing. Everything that made The Sims what it is was is mostly gone in The Sims 4.

The fact of the matter is this game was definitely not worth the 80$ I spent for the premium edition that comes with a crappy little book and some extra content.

Origin wants you to hope that this game will get better with more expansion packs, so that you'll buy them. If you haven't tried The Sims 3, I recommend buying it instead with some expansion packs, because they're all 20$ now instead of 40$. You would save big $bucks$.

If you still want to try it out, get it online through origin. They have a 24hr refund policy. If you don't like it, you get 100% of the money you spent back.

Another big anoying things is bugs.
My sims are sometimes stuck in walls, the music is running wild (i seems there are multiple tracks played at the same time), and I have some grafic glitches when moving objects around.
Sure, its the first week for the game. But what in hell, was there no internal testing?
These bugs are so obvious to me, how could they make it to the final product?

For me EA would have done better by focusing on the gameplay, content and game mechanics than all the other stuff around the game.
What is the benefit of the community stuff when the actual game is not satisfying.

For 70 bucks im really extremly disappointed from what I got.
And the feeling that you are driven to buy additional content, as 70 bucks are not enough to provide content, make everything just worst

The Sims has one of the most brilliant concepts in gaming but EA is holding it hostage with their anti-consumer business practices and their incompetent designers.

Well other than the obvious pools and toddlers we keep hearing about... there's no more story progression. Did you like watching your family tree build, who marries who in town, discover a 3rd cousin etc? Well now that doesn't happen unless you do it yourself. Yep, no more building that bunkhouse full of women and seeing what sort of relationships develop in town lol. Everything is flat, no more terrain elevation. No regular jobs - yep, no more cop or medical to get you started on your way up as you accrue your fortune. Just straight to astronaut for you! No burglars. No ghosts. No freakin' cemeteries! No "accidental" deaths! That means no more can you be the creepy mad scientist in the mansion where people tend to 'disappear' due to the pool of death.

EA has been putting out one stinker barebones game after another lately, and I can no longer ignore it. Their excuse for skimping on content? Lack of resources they say, plenty of FX people but not enough other devs. Yeah, EA - one of the largest developers in the world, making the latest installment of a flagship super-popular game lacks resources for content. Ok. Who wants to bet that all this content will make a conspicuously convenient appearance in DLC format, for a premium, at oddly regular intervals, almost as if it was already finished long beforehand? As if, oh I don't know, it was planned out in advance....

It might be enjoyable to people who have never played a Sims game before, but you'd be much better off buying the Sims 3 and saving money if that is the case.

The build mode is the only thing so far that has improved from The Sims 3, you can add entire rooms or easily expand your foundation/walls after building your house.

The 1 score is for the building mode, i did try hard to find anything else worth adding after hours in-game.

It's nearly impossible to kill a sim. No more happiness points based on moodlets, instead you have an useless buff called "emotion", that unlock useless interactions for "wishes" that barely grant any points. And that whole new design is just awfully confusing. I liked the old system a lot better the more moodlets the happier my sims, the better rewards, that's **** emotions for you... simple, powerful. No social worker. No cars. No urinals. Sims "pee like a champion" sitting down... No jobs location, no school location. Can't access sims to see their needs etc, when at work or at school (imaginary place). So weird tilting in the rewards section. An awfully obnoxious tutorial system that will pop a thousand times in your face.
No jobs. It's all text based and skill based.
Hair that look like kiddy paste. I don't see the point of doing Sims all over again they looked fine before. It's just so they can stick "Sims 4" on the box.
People claimed that demo of Create a Sim didn't have everything, it very much did... There is not any more clothing options in the real game. And no create a style, no create a world either...
Teens/YA/Adult/Elders look exactly the same that's why they only shown YA in the demo. They knew themselves. Stupid walks, who cares...
Small cities... and all these sims walking around your home, feels like the Truman show car scene with his wife "they are running in circle all day".
If you own Sims 3 and several expansions you are lucky because you don't need this crap! There is no reason whatsoever... Even build mode, so you have new commodities, cool, but with the old one you could achieve nearly the same, they just needed to patch it in not do an entire new game and call it "Sims 4".
I played this game 2 hours, and I don't feel the need whatsoever to come back to it. I might actually buy an expansion of Sims 3 but this, no way... And they spent years to make this? No way... 6 months top...

Honestly, there wasn't much difference from Sims 3. Liked the Orleans atmosphere, CAS molding feature, and easy build tools. Emotions are fun. HOWEVER, that does not mean the game is worth $60.00. I read the reviews the day after it came out and was on the fence. I bought it on Origin away just to try it out and have already sent in my request for a refund. I'll be more likely to buy it when the price drops dramatically and when EA releases an EPIC EP that fixes all the flaws the base game has.

But when you realize you have to go through a load screen just to visit you neighbor, you will just turn off the game. The older Sims games were great, it seemed like you had to work to achieve things, there was progression. In this version you basically just send your sim to a job, keep all their needs sated and wait until you accomplish your goal. Your phone can basically do everything your sim needs. There's no upgrade path. There's no need to keep making your home better. You build a decent kitchen, get a nice bed, and some entertainment and you're done. Which is probably for the better since there's only a handful of items in the entire game.

Maybe in a few years when there's actually content in the game, it'll be worth a purchase. But if it's some obscene $150 price tag for the game it should have been at launch you can be damn sure I will not buy it. Time to try to request a refund from Origin. This'll be fun.

TLDR: If you enjoyed Sims 2 and hated Sims 3, you will like this game in a few months when it has DLC. If you've only been playing Vanilla Sims 2 for the last 10 years, then you'll look at this as a worthwhile upgrade.

It makes me sad to say that. I will explain why I don't think this will improve with expansion packs later.

I am a long time Sims fan. I have every expansion pack, game, stuff pack ever released since the Sims 1. I even have most of the overpriced store items. I really was looking forward to this, and pushed aside all of the doubts pregame.

The good- Create a sim (CAS) has a lot if improvements. The clothes in the base game of The Sims 4 are much improved from earlier versions. When I played the demo, I was very excited in seeing cute and stylish clothes offered in CAS. I've never liked male clothes in this game, but this one has stylish and modern clothes for both sexes. The hair, glasses, and accessories are cute as well. The UI for CAS is easy to navigate, and I like that they categorize the types of clothing you can use. I also love the flexibility in modelling the faces. For the first time, I feel as if I can create strong ethnic features and distinctive faces.

The bad: There are many problems with TS4, but I will only highlight the area that is lacking the most for me, and that's the incompleteness of the game. Practically everyone, even people who have given this "game" a good review have mentioned that this game is lacking of content. And don't be fooled into thinking that the game may be incomplete due to the fact that it's only the base game. As someone who has owned base games of the sims 1-3, I can absolutely say that this game has WAY LESS than the base games from previous entries in the franchise. And it's not even close.

When I loaded the game, there were two empty lots. TWO. I thought, seriously??? That is IT? Apart from that, there are four community lots- a museum, a library, a gym, and a lounge. There was also a park I think, but that's it. The neighborhood is tiny. Then you, have to endure the fact that each lot has a loading screen. Even to go next door, there is a loading screen. So, when you have two sims, and you travel with one to another lot, you LOSE the control of the other. Not that there's many lots to visit. Isn't this what happened in the Sims 2?

Don't be fooled by the things you read by EA claiming this is a much "improved" game. They brag about the "seamless" travel between the different neighborhoods. Sure you can travel between the two available neighborhoods. However, those two neighborhoods combined are maybe a third the size of a normal neighborhood in previous versions of the game. There are no restaurants, grocery stores, business centers, theaters.. there's practically nothing.

EA said that with the advanced new system for emotions, moods, etc, they had to leave some things out. As someone very familiar with all the games, I have to say that the moods are cool, but that's it, just kind of interesting. The addition of the moods in no way make up for ridiculously incomplete neighborhood. They didn't leave some things out, they left everything out.

EA said that this game would run so much better on your computer, that the lag would no problem anymore, etc. Two problems with that claim for me. First, yes, I agree, the game runs smoother with less lag (though I have a pretty decent computer so I never had a lot of lag). And I would hope it would, the neighborhood is so stripped down that there isn't nearly enough content to cause lag. Because as I've mentioned many times already, there's NOTHING THERE. Second, this unfortunately claim was also completely untrue for me as there were a lot of bugs when I played, such as actions being cancelled, Sims getting stuck...etc

I don't think this game will get better because it's started so low. TS4 is so far below the other versions, I can't see expansions making up for what they failed to add when they are starting on such a low bar.

I submitted a return request. I never thought I would do it for my favorite game in the world. I encourage others who bought this game on Origin and who dislike it to do the same. Do not reward EA with good first week sales for giving us crap. Within 24 hours of first launch of the game, you can submit your return request. The link is here. https://www.origin.com/en-us/great-game-guarantee

My last thing to say is that I a really annoyed at EA for completely letting us down. What the hell were you doing for all these years??

    To the game:

Pros: Ui is definitely better it more intuitive and u can search items by names or filter.. thats very nice
Moods: well it isnt definitely implemented the best but its kinda nice feature.. Your sims now "feels" and trying to act like normal human he can be flirty , focused , sad, etc.. The interaction with items ll getting changed in addittion in what mood u are same with socializing.. But thats all .. First 2 hours its kinda new feature and good but then its feel incompleted, empty.. If u were playing Sims 4 u know what I wanna say its just bad .... And thats all pros what u can expect from Sims 4...

Cons: Theres so much featured took away.. No color wheel only few basic colors, no repairman, no schools, no real working u just send ur sim to work and u got stucked in ur house unless u dont have another sim at home. New carrer is kinda weird... U take a job and in order to become promoted u have to make special little quest like write a book, make game etc... it sounds very good but in play its bored cuz u are always stucked at home.. Neighbours are separated, u live in livehood with like 4 houses thats all... And ofc u just cant go to the neighbour knock on the door or check for his/her trash you have to click on his house and loading screen appears... WTF?!! in 2014 next gen game.. Socializing is totally broken... You can have army of normarriage kids if u wanna wohoo/ sex/ just go to the library or gym spoke little to someone use few flirts take his/her home and just wohoo.. u can wohoo like 2 3 girls/ guys in one night... You can have like army of nonmarriage children as i said .. The worst part is sims do have emotions but only those crapy *** which they have implemented.. Someone pls tell me how can one guy have sex with every girl in city in less that one day of playing and they are growing pretty fast:D u woohoo and two days after ur chick come to u as pregnant 2 days next u got a baby :D and like few days he s a teenager wth?:D Theres no real feeling about it and its just totally weird.. Everything is totally cheapr except few items like one bad cost 1500 dolars and the best one cost 13000? or something like that.. It seems EA doesnt wanna from theircustomers to get bored so if u wanna the best crap which is like 0,00001% better pay aditional 12000 dolars for one bed wth...

Sims 4 brings new additions to skills... its like some little rpg.. for example u cant buy like half of items from shop cuz if u wanna buy for example best computer u have to become tech guru lvl 10 so u have to work with computers etc.. or u cant upgrade ur stuff unless u have repair level 8 or something.. it totally weird that half of content u just cant buy cuz its locked.. yeah sure EA again dont wanna their customers get bored but theres better way how to not get bored zheir customers.. its just feels all clunky and stupid

The bunch of items missing like dishwasher burglars cars, bicycle etc...
And ofc stupid people ll buy it and are waiting for new expansions like stupid sheeps... Yeah with expansios it l be definitely better i guess cuz they are gonna implement new content but its so mean and stupid from EA to so much *** with their customers....

so its up to u readers if u wanna become sheep and play this crap or send ur bucks or euros to buy something in real life like flowers for ur wife or for ur real kid.....

No vehicles, no pools, no toddlers, a tiny game world, create a style is gone for both objects and clothing, there aren't even damn firefighters or police.

This game was nothing more than an unfinished base platform which costs 10-20 dollars/pounds/euros/etc more than the usual cost of games. The intention here was simply to gut the fanbase with a dozen DLC/Expansions.

Unforgivable, honestly what is sims 4, it's in no way a sequel to sims 3, if anything it's an emotion filled body editor prequel from 2002???

I was a huge fan of sims 3, it had its ups and downs but was overall enjoyable. Sims 4 gets boring in minutes, coming from me who spends and easy 6 hours just creating a house and another umpteen hours getting my sim promoted, and just doing random things it's sad to say sims 4 is a bore! In order to get this game on track a patch/expansion of epic proportions better be on the horizon and it better be cheap, bc I can I'll afford another $60 for an unfinished sloppy jaloppy as a sim would say! Just bad EA, just bad. Save your simoleans my friends and wait it out.

And another gripe before I go, the graphics are an odd mixture of cartoon/realism and they are a step backward from sims 3. I understand the aiming at a larger market and those with less powerful computers but I feel like they dumbed it down to where even a computer running windows 98 could almost make this work. Another thing I noticed very quickly is that sims just walk right through each other instead of a sim getting out of the way. Now I can kind of understand why they did this (In Sims 3 sims would often get stuck because they can't get out of the way) but would it be too hard to simply add an animation where the sim turns to the side instead of walking through them? Now instead of typing another 700 characters on how bad this is, I will list everything else that I hate about it.

    - No pools for no reason that I can figure out.
    - No colour wheel in create-a-sim
    - When your sim goes to work he just teleports instead of getting into a car
    - A strange lack of a lot of clothing options (DLC probably)
    - Camera barely works

All in all there was only one thing I liked about this game: It's smoother than Sims 3.

Tiny maps, load screens, lack of features, price gouging, lack of choice... This game has it all.

I don't know who is running the once great EA, but they're driving it into the ground. They have pulled a Sim City 2013 with this product, and lost what little faith I still had for them. It's as though they just don't care.

The sim's 4 ? More like The sim's 2.5 , what the hell were they thinking ? they added some new graphics and emotion and they threw the rest out the window ? no more jogging around in the park checking chicks out , no more swimming in the ocean/pool , no more waterholes , NO MORE SOUL !!!!

This series hasn't had a great game since the sims 2, 3 always crashes for me and many others. Sims 4 is absolutely boring after the novelty wears off and I wasn't excited for it as much as 3, with all the missing features, it was rumoured to have been a scrapped online game concept and that would explain the lack of features. I sincerely hope that the sims 5 is incredible otherwise I will just be playing 2 and 3 into the 2020s, because besides open world that game was fun, full of content and perfect for its time. The sims 3 world graphics are waaaaay better than the sims 4s. Also the grass looks awful in 4. Very disappointed. I've been a fan from the beginning. :( the sims has no competition either so unfortunately EA's is the best game we get, and they ruined the sims 4. I now appreciate my previously somewhat disliked sims 3 game compared to 4. I had so much more fun with 1 than 4 despite the graphics, they took all the fun out of the game. I sincerely hope sims 5 is better, and of course there will be a sims 5, this series is just too successful and unique to give up on but I will give up if 5 is anything like 4. Thanks for reading. There are many things I could list, like your sims dont have fun anymore while drawing and if you wanna sell some stuff from your inventory you have to sell EVERY SINGLE ONE, you cant just sell f.e. 20 strawberries at a stroke....Means if you wanna make money by selling your harvest it's gonna take hours.
Besides that, the game is horribly buggy and crashes all the time...
Why can't EA just FINISH a game before selling it???? That's just a bad habit!

While I'd rather wait for a full product, I can make exceptions if there are truly many features being added onto the game.

After the release however, I found out that it was a bunch of PR bull#*@$. Almost none of what made the previous sims (sims 3) great, was in the sims 4. No more open world, loading screens even when visiting your nextdoor neighbor, tiny "cities" (they call them worlds.. what a joke), limited clothing and build items, etc.. I could go on but I'd rather touch on their "improvements". The new sims touts better emotions and smarter sims. While I do like some of the changes, it's still needs a lot of work. In the end it's barely a improvement over the sims 3 interactions and certainly not an excuse for all the stuff they left out.

My final thought is that maybe if Sims 3 never happened, this game might've been praised a bit more. Maybe. As it is it feels like a $60+ Emotion and Texture DLC for sims 2 (IF you also removed several features from sims 2). Do not buy.

This is not a complete game, period, and anyone trying to argue that's not the case is a straight up liar. In fact, if anyone from EA would be honest for a minute, I am sure they would agree with this sentiment. Originally, Sims 4 was meant to be a multiplayer online experience akin to SimCity. With such a big planned departure from previous Sims' titles, features present in other games were understandably left out. When SimsCity failed, EA changed gears... but by that point it was too late to go back and create something that worked as a standalone, single player game.

Like a lot of people, I find the changes made to the Sims themselves (including the changes to CAS, minus the absence of Create a Style) to be positive. However, the good things about the game basically end there. Yes, build mode is more powerful but I used Create a Style so much that without it I can do almost nothing I want. This isn't just about missing pools and toddlers. The game is missing its charm, its soul. That's what is unforgivable.

Conversations are awkward and difficult to maintain. Pathfinding is a mess. Glitches abound. I could go on and on about what's bad without once using the phrase "missing from Sims 3," although that really wouldn't be accurate since there are indeed many things available in the Sims 3 base game that have gone the way of the wind and are sorely missed. I'm not going to list them; many of these lists are available elsewhere online. All I will say is these absences are completely conspicuous and only add to the feeling of incompleteness.

This is so bad that I fear the series is done with this title. This was my single most anticipated release of the year, and I found it so disappointing that it moved me close to tears. The Sims franchise was and still is an absolute cultural phenomenon. Those of us who have been playing from the beginning have been doing so for close to fifteen years. I have so many good memories of The Sims, The Sims 2, and the Sims 3, as do many others. While I feel that video games can be art, they are also completely commercial and thus I believe that game developers do have a certain degree of responsibility to their fans of all devotion levels. To roll this out, call it The Sims, and try to convince us that it is anywhere near what we have seen before in the franchise is an absolute disgrace.

Trust me, EA knows all of this. If you don't believe me, then I'll leave you on this note: The Sims 4 is the first title in the franchise that was not released early to be reviewed, and that says about as much about the game as anything else possibly can.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY EVER!! You might as well buy sims 1 since all of the exciting aspects have been taken away. Only reason I gave a 1 was the graphics (on ultra mode) are improved. However, NO pools, NO toddlers, NO MORE FREE ROAMING AROUND THE TOWN!! You can not follow them to work anymore. Every place you go you have to sit through a loading screen. Even walking across the street to the neighbors house you have to wait 3-4 minutes which may not seem like a lot but since they were previously able to roam freely with no loading screen it makes a BIG difference! Create a sim had nice features but it doesn't make up for ZERO GAME PLAY! The new interactions with sims are LAME! Tell joke about monkeys? Joke about mimes? Come on EA, we've seen you do better!! Thoroughly disappointed by this game. Do not listen to the critic rating, listen to the users! Step back to make progress my A**! There's NOTHING to do anymore! This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Another disappointed long term simmer here.

Have played the games since it first came out in 2000, brought all the exps and stuff packs and would have described myself as quite loyal to the franchise. Having seen a lot of stuff on the internet and read reviews both on here and Amazon, I was very unsure about whether to get this but bit the bullet on Friday (partly because it looked like the modding community was already looking for fixes for the most frequent fan gripes) when I saw it on offer, it has now been returned.

For me, it feels as if the soul has been ripped out of the franchise; playing it just doesn't feel the same as the other games to mend for me, the immersion just isn't there for me, I would imagine partly because of the shoddy camera controls (I switched to Sims 3 mode in the options and it still didn't solve it for me) and the endless loading screens which put me off actually leaving the lot - I have lost hours upon hours in the other games and couldn't this time .

Socialization in particular is really difficult, especially for teens (why do four out of the five age stages look almost identical?- who thought that was a good idea?) as you can't tell which age stage is which, relationship building seemed to take forever (definitely a lot longer than in the other games).

I know a number of reviewers have already mentioned the speed needs deplete and I would agree with this. It did really hinder me it using the new objects and "exploring" (if you can really call it that) the new neighborhoods, again it made everything feel more of a faff than it should be. For me it also made the game's pacing feel lumbering and slow - like you'd just finish getting everyone sorted and it would be time to do the whole cycle again. Really not fun at all

In all fairness I did feel the create a Sim and build/buy modes were very good a definitely the best parts of the game. However I really felt the loss of the colour wheel and quite often found myself thinking 'I don't want this to be x colour - I want it to be y, bit oh-wait that's not a preset so I can't do it' I could live without the patterns from the Sims 3 but how hard would it have really been to stick in just some alternative un patterned colour choices? Really liked the pull and drag walls in build mode and did think it made building easier. As good as these functions might have been; Sim and House creation are not why I play the Sims and so couldn't redeem the game for me.

In terms of the stuff missing - pools and toddlers I can live without, the open world I sorely missed and the community lots which came along with it. Although a few community lots come with the Sims four; I was less than less than impressed - there didn't seem to be much there and they were difficult to negotiate with the camera. Things would have improved a lot if they'd included cinemas and restaurants rather than one empty nightclub and a gym. The Pathfinding seemed to be a bit dodgy as well - my Sim would continually not be able to get to places. Yet another aspect of the game which felt like a chore and wasn't really fun. They also seem to have removed a lot of the old skill objects which is a real shame.

There are a lot of unlockables in this game - the whole concept of which I dislike - The thing which really appeals to meabout the Sims is not having to complete objectives and (although of course you're not obligated to unlock stuff) I begrudge having to do so just to get objects (and not really all that special objects going by the descriptions like you did in the Sims 2 with the career rewards). On this point - I hate the fact there most of the careers from the first three games are missing - not everyone wants their Sims to have a wacky career. They should definitely bring the old careers back - what the hell's a tech guru anyway? That said I did like the fact that all the careers had two possible branches and would have liked to have seen that in Sims 3

The emotions aren't really worth mentioning just a bit of a gimmick which didn't really add anything to my gameplay. I resented having to send my Sims top work feeling a certain emotion rather than just in a good mood. Once again just made everything more hard work than it should have been.

In conclusion, I wouldn't recommend this game - not to fans of the original games or to newcomers. I've seen this compared a lot to the Sims 2 and while agree it does feel a little bit like that - it is nowhere as good a game. The whole thing felt like a chore with everything feeling so convoluted and hard work- the charm and entertainment value from the old games just isn't there. I think I got about five hours playtime before I gave up. Definitely going to stick to playing a combo of Sims 2 & 3 until the inevitable Sims 5 comes out.

To me, the Sims 4 seems about 5 % better than the Sims 3 but 95% worse.
The top two things in this list are what killed the game for me. These things made me stop playing and is why I have no plans to get any Sims 4 EPs.
    1. No open world. Compared to the Sims 3, the Sims 4 closed world to me means no spontaneity, an overall claustrophobic feel/atmosphere, gameplay lacking fun, no sense

The top two things in this list are what killed the game for me. These things made me stop playing and is why I have no plans to get any Sims 4 EPs.
    1. No open world. Compared to the Sims 3, the Sims 4 closed world to me means no spontaneity, an overall claustrophobic feel/atmosphere, gameplay lacking fun, no sense of adventure, no control. Also, the Sims 4 boasts about multitasking, but the Sims 3 open world provided better multitasking for me as a player. For instance, I could send my sims out on different outings simultaneously. I would multi-task what my sims did, juggling all their activities at once, switching between them. It was challenging and very fun and satisfying. I would separate them, then bring them back together, all at different times. Very spontaneous. Compare this to the Sims 4 multitasking, of eating on the toilet or playing games on their phone while drinking juice. Yes, this is multitasking, but throwing away the open world and all the options that came with it was a horrible trade off. For instance, if one of your Sims wants to suddenly go fishing in the Sims 4, your other sims stop existing, unless they go with. Boring. In the end, I mostly stopped having my Sims 4 sims leave the house because I became so sick of not being to play all of them at once. Not really a life simulator but just playing a group of people in their homes. More of a personality simulator. This brings me to my next biggest problem with the Sims 4.

    2. No toddlers. For a game so centered on home life why would they not just remove an entire age group so central to family life but limit several other age groups as well? Personally, I enjoy playing families the most in the Sims 3 and toddlers are an essential part of that. Aside from that, infants are very limited. No ability to see their needs, and you can’t even carry them anywhere or click on their portraits. Teens look the same as adults. Same heights. Same bodies.

    3. No customization or color wheel. It’s like a phone company saying, 'designing mobile phones is just too hard for us. So sorry, were going to stop making them. You have to use traditional wall mounted phones from now on like what was around decades ago.'

    4. Socializing is boring. They “chat” for hours on end, no break in conversation, just rambling endlessly. It makes what they say have no real meaning and I can’t, as a player, empathize with them. I ended up trying to play antisocial sims just so they would stop rambling on and on, but it didn’t work. Which leads to the next problem.

    5. Stalker friends who visit 3 times a day. If it wasn’t bad enough that my sims were stuck at home most of the time, they couldn’t actually do anything at home or get anything done because “my pal” is back for the third visit today. Yes, lets spend another 5 hours with our friend just chatting non-stop about absolutely nothing. Maybe we can try to eat before bed, if we're lucky.

    6. The animation is a step back, not forward. It’s one thing to have the animations be stylized and unique (not overly realistic) but it’s another to have it drawn badly, with objects angular and jagged and overly cartoonish. The Sims 3 didn’t have perfect graphics, but it was better than this. And for a game that boasted about the “great new create a sim tools” I found it very hard to get my sims to look different from each other.

    7. You have to login to the EA site to play.

    8. No cars.

    9. No diners to eat out in. I send my sims out to eat all the time in the Sims 3. I missed that in the Sims 4.

    10. My sims 4 sims look like corpses. They look like they have some kind of horrible skin disease. The pale skin tones are the worst, which are actually blotchy and from some angles look bruised. Also, the one or two blond hair colors available (yes, that’s all you get to choose from) look awful, like some kind of cheap bleached dye job. In the Sims 3 I enjoy playing all different hair and skin colors. I really enjoy customizing different hair, skin and eye colors. It’s so much fun. And I’ve never had a problem with the quality of any of them. So different.

    11. Very small towns.

    12. Sims only get 3 traits. This means that children have 1 trait.

    13. No story progression.

The things that I think are improved in the Sims 4 (over the Sims 3):
    1. The new mood types are interesting and can be entertaining. They are more in depth and complex than the Sims 3 moods. For instance, the new sad, flirty, playful moods, etc.

    2. Build mode is improved. For instance, you can move an entire room at once, with all the objects in it.

    3. Colors of certain objects like plants, furniture, clothing and water are better in the Sims 4. They are prettier and more vibrant.

    4. The game runs smoother in the Sims 4 and has less lag than the Sims 3.

Overall, I think the Sims 4 is actually EA’s attempt to just recreate the Sims 2. IMO even the Sims 2 is better than Sims 4.

Let me just say I don't like it at all. I have tried to like it too, but I just don't like it at all. Why could they not expound on the good features of 3 instead of recreating the wheel? Building is easier, but not worth the money for an entire game. I don't like more about 4 than I hated about 3. So it's back to TS3 for me.

The Positives: Multi-tasking is so helpful
    Runs better on computers
    Build/Buy aren't separate
    And that's about it....

The Neutrals: Create a Sim is vastly improved but due to the lack of create a style it wasn't as intuitive as the Sims 3.
Build/Buy: I'll admit the moving a room around never interested me mostly because i know where a room is going to go when i build it. Sadly due to lack of Create a Style possibilities are limited.

The NEGATIVES (there's a lot of them):
    Create A Style is GONE!
Emotions don't do much (I prefer the mood meter)
Too many unlock-able items( I just want to buy a nice TV but nooope!)
    Very Small Town(s)
    No toddlers
    Warp Work is back
No Open World (probably the biggest asset of the sims 3)
Lack of clothing options (mainly due to no Create a Style)
Making friends seems to take very long compared to the sims 3
LOADING SCREENS EVERYWHERE (Short but very annoying)
The graphics would look good... if I were playing on a mobile device

Overall I think The Sims 4 is a massive step backward compared to the Sims 3. I do understand the Sims 3 was a bit rough on the computer, but that's no excuse to cut out so much content. Never have I felt that I needed custom content in a Sims game, but here I do. EA is ruining The Sims name just like they ruined many others like Burnout and Need For Speed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS. Go buy Sims 3 and 2 expansion packs instead. At least that's worth the cost

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has positives and negatives, the positives being multi-tasking & the emotion stimulator & in my opinion I really do like the graphics Also, a lot more Food options!. However, its definitely not worth the price! This game is probably worse than Sims 2 (which was actually really good & the transition between 2 & 3 was outstanding by EA).
    The Negatives:
    - Create-a-sim , its completely pathetic the Sims don't look like real-life people. the hair is all clumpy & the bodies are very unrealistic, there is no height difference between teenagers, young-adults, adults or elders.
    - The traits are also very basic & boring.
    - There are no Toddlers?! and the Baby literally can't do anything and can barely be interacted with by other Sims.

    - NO OPEN WORLD! its just a bunch of loading screens after loading screens, can't see the Sims school, work & if you want to go anywhere... ALL is just loading screens.
    - There is also no Create Tool, you cannot personalize your Sims houses as much as compared to Sims 3...
    - LAME! No cars, & the neighbourhood is sectioned.
    - RANDOM SIMS WILL CONSTANTLY JOIN YOU CONVERSATION AND CUT OFF OTHER INTERACTIONS WITH SIMS YOU WANT TO TALK TOO!
    - NO STORY PROGRESSION

I fail to see how this is in any way a step up from the previous sims? If anything it's almost a step-down. There's nothing to do, there's no restaurants or shopping areas? This is so basic and boring. And if I even want to go anywhere I have to wait 5 minutes at a loading screen! I wish I would have just bought sims 3 again and all the expansion packs for the the same price I paid for this.

The game crashes so much it has become unplayable!!! How about instead of coming out with more expansion packs EA focuses on fixing this recurring issue! No matter how many times I call customer support I have had no luck in fixing the issue. To top it off I received an error message the other day and then all of my saved files somehow got deleted and I lost two weeks of playing time.

Expansion packs and DLCs are overpriced. Base game is empty, world is boring, tons of important BASIC things are missing. Such a disappointment. Congrats EA for showing us your true colors.

I really don't recommend the Sims 4. I regret that purchase. For one, they're offering it even cheaper now, so at least if I bought it now, it would have been less money to have wasted. But mostly, I would have not bought it at all had I known then what I know now. First off, I hadn't had the game that long and I didn't play it that much and I tried to get a refund, but Origin never acknowledged me. Then the time I would imagine elapsed so instead of having the game on my computer taking up space, I played it. It was fun at first because I like building the houses and creating the families, but after that, the game play was hollow. It was literally doing tasks over and over and hardly anything I would maybe have found fun. Send your sim to work, make them eat, make them cook food, send them to the bathroom, take care of the endlessly needy baby sims that don't do anything aside from lay in their cribs. Then I added in some content like different houses but many houses I found to download required expansion packs I wasn't ready to pay for. It's already expensive to play the base game, to add in all these other packs would be well over $100. Unless you get a sale and even then, you could buy 5 packs at $20 and still spend an arm and a leg. This game is a hollow shell. You get lured in setting it up. You waste an hour or more setting up the family , the house, getting it all going. Then if you add in more Sims and houses and maybe some mods for different things, the game starts to malfunction. One baby I had was invisible. You have to load a new screen to visit anything. A neighbors house, the park, whatever, it's all waiting. This game is set up so that you're wasting so much time. I thought this would be fun and stupidly I bought the game and now I know that the Sims isn't for me. Maybe you'll like it, but if you never played it before like me, it's not that fun. I'd rather get some other type of game than this, or invest in a console. Not at all pleased with my purchase, not happy with Origin's customer service. I thought I had x amount of time and game play to test it before I had to let them know I wanted a refund, and even though I thought I fell within those ranges I still was never refunded or even acknowledged with an explanation as to why I didn't receive a refund. There are more fun games. This is playing house if you want to act out real life. I don't want to feed Sims all day long. I don't want to play for 3 hours and only get a house built and regular tasks like showering or using the bathroom done. Sometimes my Sims wouldn't do as I was playing them to do and they'd have a bladder failure or get really tired. Oh well. I will chalk this up to a waste of money. I hate this game now. Expand

I won't go into all the nitpicky details of stupid design choices. The bottom line is: this is an extremely unfun game. Everything feels clunky and awkward, I'm not sure if that's due to the general empty vibe the game gives off, but there is very little flow to gameplay. It's hard to describe how the sims4 base game is inferior to the sims3 base game. It's not the lack of open world (though that is a feature I sorely miss), I think it's just the depth of gameplay and little fun details. The sims3 felt fun, light hearted, and playful, but very complex. The sims4 just feels very flat, there's very little depth to gameplay. I gave sims4 a chance and played about 10 hours, but I have already uninstalled the game and just wish I could get my money back.

I am literally counting down the days until they make a REAL sims game, so here's to hoping sims5 will receive the time and care to properly produce it, to make it an improvement on the already established game concepts that work in sims2 and sims3. In the meantime, I'll be playing sims3, even if it causes my computer to kill itself.

I’ve loved this game since sims 3. I might not be a veteran, and a bit late to the party, but I loved the idea of creating the perfect me for different lifestyles. But, it’s changed. And here’s why. Sims 4 is boring. It’s the most painful and boring game. I guess you could argue that’s just how a life simulator is. But I remember having so much fun going to clubs and restaurants and bars in sims 3, at my own will. Call me a hater, but the fact we didn’t get open world in the “newer” sims is laughable. And yeah, this complaint has been beaten into the sims 4 developers minds but they certainly have a fun time defending their precious ugly a** baby from criticism. I found it so funny that when I was first watching video for the Sims 4, they praised the character creator for its amazing abilities. Instead we got some cool sliders on the bodies and nothing else. What happened to the customization? Sims 3 let’s me pick accurate and unashey POC skin colors, and now I get absolutely disgraceful skin tones that people have complained about since they appeared. But it’s been a good few years, and alas no improvement! Because the Sims team and EA doesn’t care about its fans. It’s so heartwarming to look at these amazing surveys and actually get excited before remembering, oh right, it’s EA, it won’t happen. I looked at the website and saw school, accurate relationships, improved babies, and I got tears. I was finally going to get the sims 4 we all deserved. Instead they come out with the WORST pack I’ve seen. A eco pack. For 35 DOLLARS. If you are spending 35 of your hard earned money for rehashed ideas from two other packs fluffed with stinky old cheese.... I’m sorry but please save it for something else. I’ve never been more embarrassed for a company. The fact it passed so many people and they looked at it and thought “This won’t look like an obvious cash grab at all!” Because that’s all they think. They don’t care about us. Why would they when people still throw money at the company like h*rny straight me. I also find it soooo hysterical that there are literal fans, working for no money or limited money from patreon, are making BETTER packs and expansions for FREE or for cheap, better than the f*cking devs. I could not be more proud of a community for actively owning the sh*t out of this team that constantly uses “non realistic/ impossible” as a reasonable excuse. The fans give us matching furniture, realistic teens/babies with skin problems and moody days, actually good and relevant clothing other than the disgusting style Maxis gives us, beautiful skins colors and amazing hair. It’s so sad these people work so hard to make the game actually enjoyable content that is being eaten up by EA. I can’t get over the blandness and ugly and boring Sims 4. We’ve gotten unfinished packs, unmatched devs, awful buildings, horrendous packs, all for what. We have suffered so long and I just. This is the last **** straw. I can’t kept waisting my money on a game I know won’t improve. It’s heartbreaking to me that I put so much hope only for EA to piss and sh*t all over my dreams. I genuinely hope that people on the Sims team learn to read feedback. It would be beautiful to see actually good builds, good packs, and content that makes even 15 bucks f*cking worth it. Expand

I only have a couple of the expansions, because at that point I got sick and tired of EA's way of milking its player base. Even with a few major Expansion packs and about a dozen minor ones and item packs... the game is lackluster. You never really feel you can really customize your character to something you want. Everything just feels barebones to the max, EA has done EVERYTHING to give you the bare minimum.

I had not played any of the Sims games since the Sims 1. That one only had 8 Expansion packs... the Sims 2 had more, the Sims 3 had more than the Sims 2 and now the Sims 4 has more than the Sims 3... yet it feels even more barebones than the Sims 1 was.

The Sims 4 is one of those big money makers for EA; you can tell, because they don't even include Expansions or packs in EA Play service. Even EA Play Pro only has 2-3 packs. So even if you pay their monthly service, they are too cheap to offer you a full Sims 4 experience.

I'm sick and tired of EA's bullcrap capitalist ways. I'm done with EA.

Even if this means I won't get the Mass Effect Remastered experience, I decided EA is a blacklisted company in my books. They do not give a crap about the games they make, all they care is to rip you off and make you pay big money for what is litteraly very much nothing.

    F*** OFF EA!

While an enjoyable title that has been polished up and seems generally very modern, it cannot be expected that The Sims 4 is not going to be compared to The Sims 3. In this respect, it seems that while the game took a few steps forwards, it also took a few steps backwards by abandoning features that were very helpful and appreciated in the previous versions. It does have new features that people have been waiting for, such as emotions and more personality for the Sims. As for now, for some players it may not quite be worth to abandon The Sims 3 for it, but for new players looking for a first experience with the franchise, they may have an easier time navigating than former The Sims 3 players. People that have previously enjoyed the latter may be disappointed by the menus (Sim creation, building, or navigating town), as they have been so massively oversimplified that they are now actually confusing.

The Sims 4 is just a foundation of a game. How would you react if you bought a new Elder Scrolls game and realized that half of the cities are unavailable (because TES6: World Adventures is around the corner), there are only 4 weapons (TES6: Accessories), you can’t ride horses (TES6: Pets), there are only 12 quests (TES6: Careers), 2 guilds (TES6: Friends) and 3 spells (TES6: Supernatural)?
